Hello, everyone. Welcome to Dear Alice. Today we are welcoming in spring. Hello. I'm so, so happy about this. I've been waiting all year. Yeah. So we wanted to compile all of our best bringing in the spring feels for both interior and exterior and just share how we're bringing in this field. That whole level of excitement and the gooey layers of spring. It's a mood and it's contagious. Like when it seems like that sun was staying up a little bit later, we've got to go outside. The air is crisp. Where are our plants? Where are all the things that are going to bring us into this new rebirth? I guess, right? Yeah, definitely. So we also have a collection that just launched yesterday and it's called the garden room and it's a small collection of about five pieces. And we're going to be telling you how these play in perfectly to getting that look. And I want to say the look to me, if you're trying to conjure this up in your mind, we're going to be showing images on the screen. If you're one of those that's just tuning in and listening and driving, you're going to be picturing in your mind those Ralph Lauren type interiors, the blue and whites, the overscaled, the very generous and the collection. I think interiors that have multiple, multiple of the same thing looks so rich. And so these are some of the things that we want to make available to help people get that look. And now that it's spring, we can finally kind of crack the windows. We can get these ideas going for porch and bring these ideas inside. So with that, let's get into it. Okay. Okay. To kind of set the mood. Now is the year we're cracking our windows open. The breeze is coming through. We're lighting the candles a little bit, even though like that's light outside, I just want to light candles. Is that weird? I think it's the twinkly light fantasy. You know, when you think of, I want to have garden parties. I want to have all my girlfriends over. I want us to grab our food inside, but then we're going to end up in the garden, you know, with all the twinkly lights and the candles. And I just think that this is the time where we want to bring the outside in and we want to bring the inside out. Yes. As far as we want to enjoy our luxuries outside. And I think there's no more beautiful exterior spaces than when they have interior details and luxuries and moments. So it makes you feel like you moved in outside. Last year was the first year I bought, you know, a bunch of planters. And yeah, kind of had that whole experience. I'm excited to do it again. Cause I learned a lot. Finally felt like I moved into my house. I was like, this feels home now. Into your garden. Yes. That's what happened. Yeah. The pieces that we've not only launched, but the lifestyle that we want to teach you guys about today, that's I think the gooey layered textures that we're going to fill outside. Yeah. Agreed. Okay. I love it. Okay. Well, first up, we have an amazing set of terracotta pots. These are our terracotta lion planters. They conjure up these, I think collected. And I don't know if those of you that are tuning in, let's get them to the first slide here. You can see how the multiple layers of terracotta pots climbing this set of steps is just so estate like it's also simple because it's terracotta. There's something kind of earthen and very European about this aesthetic. I love this look. And I think also because orange and green sit sort of opposite on the color wheel, they just look so fantastic together. They want to be with each other. Yep. And I, so this set of four pots, um, you're going to get, they graduate in size. I really do believe that if I were getting these from my porch, I would get two sets of planters. Yeah, for sure. Right. And then I would go down the steps with some of the smaller ones. I would go next to my front door with the two largest ones. I'd graduate to one smaller size and then I start to use the smaller ones throughout the area next to my little chair or my love seat. And you can see the look is really abundant. And that's how you're going to get that Ralph Lauren look is by using the multiples, the multiplicity. It always looks sad to me when I see a front door with a small little pot that looks like you could put it in your window sill and grow basil in it. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, it's not meant to be next to your grand door. Exactly. So the way we're going to get the look is scale. I think scale is like one of the number one lessons that we could talk about when we're getting our porches ready, the more generous you go and the multiple, more multiples you use, you're going to get this estate look, even if your house isn't big. Just Bennett, I was at your porch just the other day and it's still not all the spring stuff is in bloom quite yet. It's starting to come up and starting to see some daffodils or starting to see some of those things happen. But what I loved about your porch that you've had there for a few years is you have your big planters, but then you have these evergreen kind of topiary things. You're kind of crawling through a little bit like they're robust. They're big, but there's something so grand about when you have an abundance of not only the scale of your pots, but the greenery happening that you kind of are just crawling through like a storybook, you know, to get to the door and you're just like, what is this magical place that I'm coming to? You know, and like you knock on the door with your box, door knocker, and I'm like surrounded by green. And I feel like I'm about to enter a Narnia gate or something. Like it's magic. So I'm just saying scale picture on the screen of that, but you'll be able to see like I use two sets of our white ceramic planters that we planted last year. They're ribbed. This is another great trick. The one thing that we all have to take away from this is to buy more pots, buy the whole set and get two sets. You'll be amazed at what it can do and the amount of life that can come onto that concrete porch. I will say once you start planting things, it's a drug man. It is a gateway into a garden party. That's what that is. When you start to see things come to life and when you feel what that feels like to have greenery all around you, you just want to keep going. And the more layers you can have of that, you know, the repetitions of the pots, the repetition of the looms, herb, all those things just layered on top of each other. There's nothing more magical than that. It gets you outside too. Yes. Every evening last year we were out deadheading and, you know, yeah, trimming things back, just trying to, trying to learn like the plant that he's told us. It's like a midlife thing. Like we just have to make sure all the children are well in the garden. Exactly. You know how people sometimes say touch grass? I think this is that. It's grounding. Like it is. It's really grounding. And I think after a long day to go out there and give them a little water, dead head them and talk to them, it slows you down. You get into a different mode. You're not in front of the screen and you're really able to just touch these living things and talk to them, check in on them. I have loved having, I think I have 11 pots on my tiny front porch. It's been so fun. It's a little oasis. I'm just so excited that we're in that time of year that we can bring all these things back to life. Like Saturdays at the nursery, like stop it there. It's like going clubbing. I'll see you later guys. I'm going to the nursery. It's magic. It's so magic. For you, we're going to give a quick tip that you learned recently about pots. Yes. Last year when I was potting them, I bought obviously a bunch of soil and talking to the guy at the nursery, he said, you're going to want to empty all of your soil when you replant these, because I did annuals. So I have to replant them every year. And a lot of my pots. So you need to change out the soil because what grew last year depleted the nutrients in that soil. So he's like, you're going to want brand new stuff. That's what's going to make it. Full. Yeah. Cause we want it to be, yeah, we want it to come out and be as full as possible as soon as possible. Yeah. So in order to get that, replant us the soil. Okay. That's such a good tip. So I have evergreens living in my two largest ones. So I'm not going to empty out my dirt and replant those. I'm just going to fertilize and give nutrients to what's already there. So depending on what you guys decided to plant, I thought Corey's pro tip was a really good one. The other point I wanted to make about the terracotta pots or any pots, our black ceramic are so beautiful. And the white ceramic R2, we only are making these three sets of pot. I think they work for any, any lifestyle and any look between the three sets that we offer, the terracotta being the brand newest ones, just barely hit the website yesterday. I'm going to go the terracotta with them in tandem. Yeah. Yeah. Totally. And you kind of know who you are. Yeah, you do. Depending on your style and who you are. The one thing that we did that's really very good about this terracotta pot is we did a lion head bar relief where it's like relief out of the terracotta and it makes it more regal. Sometimes terracotta can feel very casual and we have a propensity here at Alice Lane to sort of make things look just, I think more estate like and like they've been here for a billion million years. And these are just so good looking. I cannot wait for you to get your hands on them. And it could even be that these are, these are a backdoor pot and maybe the front door have, you know, the black glaze pots or whatnot, or maybe these are backed by the pool. I also wanted to say you can bring these indoor. We love an indoor tree. And so we have some, I think do we have an example or two where we show terracotta pots indoors. So don't be afraid to get the lion head planters and use them indoors. The smallest one again, could be in the kitchen window. You could grow basil in it or rosemary or any type of herbs. These could be on consoles. These could be in your entryway on a center hall. Yeah. Well, wherever you have light, I love this look indoors too. And like Sue said, spring is all about blurring the line between indoor and outdoor and getting this feeling. And I think this is unexpected. And so I love that you can bring it inside too. We always talk about that tension when you have something that's modern next to something traditional, that the tension is so good. The same goes with in an interior having exterior pieces there. When you have a tree growing inside, there is a tension that becomes a feeling. You cannot put your finger on it. When people come in, they're just like, this is amazing, but it's because you brought something unexpected. But that's feel so familiar and feel so, I think nostalgic. We've all danced in a garden and we've all felt that magic. But to bring that into your home or none, the best thing, but same tension happens when you bring exterior or interior things outside. When you have like the beautiful candle dish with the pretty candles and the clutches, all the layers that fill heirloom. When you have that outside, you're like, gosh, these guys really know how to live. This is so much better than my Costco set, you know? So, but when you start to just like live that way, you can't stop. There's just such a luxury to it. It's a lifestyle. It is a lifestyle. And I'm so glad that you guys came out with the terracotta one with the line head because I swear for like years, as long as we've been doing this, we've been collecting images that really stately pot that feels earthen, that you're like, what century was this born? You know, to put in the corner of that living room. And so we've always searched for this, but now we're making it. I'm just so glad that we don't only have the glaze pots, which are so pretty. So if you're a little bit more glossy, that's a really, really fun trick to play because sometimes things get kind of dry into our end outdoor, but we do have the terracotta terracotta pot and they feel so beautiful together. Yeah. Yeah. I love that. Super stunning. Another motif that we love, love, love indoor and outdoor are the blue and whites. So these are not just your grandma's decor. We are using these beautiful garden stools. We love, love, love this motif. Traditionally, they come from the Chinese and then, of course, Europe picked this up and then it made its way over to America. I think of obviously the Ralph Lauren interiors when I think of blue and whites and some of our old favorite decorators like Bunny Williams and Mark Sykes. Mark Sykes. Yeah. The blue and whites. They just, they're so quintessentially traditional in the interior. And what I love about them is they bring pattern, they bring glossiness and they bring a hand painted element, which always looks expensive. You kind of get this little hit of a pocket square moment or a little hit of what wallpaper would do to your room. And what's so great about them is you can just pick them up. You can put your finger in the hole and pick them up and bring it over to your guest and set their drink down on it. They're completely portable. They give a look. I love these inside by a favorite chair. I love them outside by your favorite lounger. And it was like that thing that you were saying, Suze is, it's, you know, if you have a set of outdoor furniture, it doesn't always give the opulence that interior furniture does. And so when you bring interior elements in like a garden stool, which is made for outdoors too, it can withstand any weather. You get this glossy effect outside with your dry woven furniture and it makes it feel so expensive and intentional and having multiples of garden stools in between lounges, a couple in a set with your outdoor living area, even one on the porch. So somebody could pull up an extra seat, right? For you to have tea on or whatnot. It's a total lifestyle move. Yeah. Like you said, you can't have enough of them. More of a, it's better. Yeah. Don't just want one garden stool. You want several that go along with additional planters and you're like, am I a first dibs gallery? Maybe. Yeah. Yeah. This new one that we just introduced yesterday is called the guardian and we'll put an image up on the screen of our guardian garden stool. But I wanted to tell you guys a little bit about it. We also have a matching orchid pot that goes with it. So I'm going to pull it up on the table. So this is a mythical preacher and it's painted here on our orchid pot and it's called a chelan and it's, it's half horse, half dragon. Isn't that fun? Sounds mythical. So you can kind of see on here, we've got the scales and the hoofs and I think is it the head of a, head of a dragon, the dragon and kind of this, this body of a horse, body of a horse with the hoofs and there's two different chelans on this. And so we named this the guardian because it's going to watch over you and your household. And then on the orchid pot, you can see the gargoyles on both ends, those little relief heads. And then we've got a Greek key around the top. So the guardian comes in both the orchid pot as well as the garden stool. And I just think it's so, so handsome. I think multiples of these, so great multiples of the garden stool. Yeah. I was going to say, I search out for these types of things, like this, the little gargoyles. Yeah, some of them just have the holes, but if you have like the gargoyles that are hand painted, you're just like, again, you don't know the age of it. It just feels like it's an antique that's been passed down generations and generations because there is such an antiquity with that relief. It's so beautiful. And like Jess mentioned, same motif between the orchid pot and the garden stool. But one thing that I love about this and it makes it super add to me is that they are tech, all of them are all technically one of one, because they're all hand painted by an artist. And so they're going to have, you know, a little bit different variation and kind of that artist's interpretation of it. So yeah, it definitely feels like a collectible and vintage, you know, like heirloom quality. Yeah. I love this Greek key at the top as well. Consider that a love note from Alice because we've all like, as long as we've done this, put a Greek key on it. It adds like just that structure and organization to the organic, to the storytelling, and it feels so, so good. Repetition here, the little hash marks down here, the scales. Like I love this piece so much. Also, I have to say the glazing is something that we've worked really hard with our hand painters on this because when the body feels more aged and antique like this, they just look more expensive in the interior. When they're too bright white, they look like they're from home goods or something. And these are the real deal. They're not stamped. They're all hand painted. They're all hand glazed. Take this to your greenhouse and put multiple orchids in it. For our lifestyle shoe, I asked them to put three different orchids, white orchids in it, and two in the other because we love an odd number. So I wanted a total of five kind of playing together in the lifestyle shoe, which we'll show here on the screen. But anyway, really handsome, the blue and white. So you guys get it. I'm just so happy that we finally have the ability to offer these indoors and your outdoors are going to look so good. You could even put this on your porch, grow something green in it. You could fill this with paper whites for Easter, armarillos for Christmas. This is going to be the gift that keeps on giving. Herbs could just be spelling too. Oh my gosh. That would be so beautiful. Didn't you just tell us, I think it was you were talking to your friend, David Phoenix. And he lives on Palm Beach and he was just saying paint that scene. Because I remember there was like multiple orchids. I'm like, I need to live like that. That sounds so great. Yeah. Yeah. So I was actually talking to Alex Marin from Sweets Your Marin and he had just that he's doing a new art line with David. And so they went to his to his home in Palm Beach and he said, you should see it. He's got this whole wall or this whole scene. I don't know if it's a sideboard. I don't know if it's a chest, but it's the entire thing is just full of orchids. And he must have a green thumb just to keep these things going year round. But I was like, a wall, like a collection of multiple, multiple orchids in different pots. Is that just the most rich visual? I wish I had B-roll for that. Lived rent free in my mind. Like I've painted and yeah, it feels so beautiful. More is more, right? Yep. I think we're kind of in that, that maximalism decorating era. And so these, these things are getting the right vessels, I think is the hard part. You know, and then you figure out how to keep the orchid alive, but you're going to look so handsome with this. Yes. I just got a new comforter from Cozy Earth. And it is my favorite new thing. You know how much I love to get into my bed. Yes. At the end of the day, I am tired. Yes. And their comforter, everything that they do is cool. It's like a cloud when I put it on myself at the end of the day. It's perfectly regulating with the temperature for not only me, but for Tom as well. It is the perfect weight and it looks so pretty. The construction on it is perfect. The stitching is lovely. I cannot tell enough people about this. I want to give it to all my friends and family. Oh, I love that. You know what's great about Cozy Earth? Yeah. I just feel like the quality is so great. And if you can see over my shoulder here and over by Amstiz, these are the new Magnolia Stems. These are so tall. I want to say they're actually like 45 inches. 42 or 45, yeah. In full, yeah. You've got the underside of the leaf that's really copper like, really handsome. And the stem is so woody. These really are like you cut a branch off of a tree. Aren't like a little tiny stem. And because they're so big, they have three huge heads of leaves. Just on one. So you don't, it doesn't require you to buy 20 branches to get this look. This is probably like seven. Anyway, because they're so tall, you can start to bend these so that they're not so symmetrical. And it gives you that real lifelike feeling that it's Narnia and it's just growing big and green and lush and it adds a real depth to any interior. I like the warmth too. I think we've had a few clients that we've worked with for over 10 plus years. And again, we go back to their house. Orals can kind of come in and out or be in a different mood, but the Magnolias never leave their tabletop. So when they have a great Magnolia, it does not go anywhere. So I'm like, this is one of the things that's kind of taken the foraging between this and our Greenwood. Yeah. It's our Greenwood branch. Anyway, you get that forage look, which you know that we love and feels the most believable, especially in these months where the trees, you know, are just starting to get their groove on. This is such a beautiful way to make a really, and I love the idea of bending it and just making it feel all you, I think we've all been to greenhouses or been to that friend with the green thumb, who's their fiddle tree, right? It's just like exploded and done stuff that looks like it's in El Decor. Yeah. You can do that kind of thing with being able to bend these a little bit. So the more branch you have, the more freedom you have to get sort of wilder, unruly, secret garden where asymmetrical like nature is. And that's the key. Yeah. Yeah. You're not going for a perfectly symmetrical funeral arrangement, if you will. I want to be kind of crawling and dipping and like doing its own thing. And that's when it gets the most magic. Yeah. Totally. Yeah. So this is the new Magnolia stem. So excited that these are here. And just in time for spring, summer, whatever, there's going to be an occasion where you might want floral somewhere, but this is just in that entry hall or the living room or wherever, wherever you have a spot for it. But I think it's just that thing that, like you said, it's seasonless. We both have live trees and live plants and things, but we also still have some artificial happening like a mitzvah. And they all just kind of like when you get a good rug, it just starts to adapt. Same thing with plants. If you have a good stem, it adapts with your real live trees. And I think the look is really just, it's luxurious and ample. Yeah. It's really, really great. So stately. So pretty. Next up, we have another introduction, which is probably our most popular item right now. It was so good. We had to make it in another size. Broke the internet, you guys. Yeah. So this is our original bubble dish. You guys all have one, I'm sure by now. And this has been really fantastic. It fits a great like three or three and a half inch candle base. I'm going to put, Cory, will you put a candle in that? Yes. Also really great. It holds diffusers because they're just a little bit smaller than candles. People love putting a drink in it and using it as a coaster. They love throwing, tossing their jewelry in it on their nightstand. And so this is the original bubble dish. And, and then we decided to make it in a couple other colorways. Introduced it in our new classics launch. Yeah. So now it comes in clear smoke and amber. And then we said, let's come out with a larger version. So I'm going to show you the difference inside this. So this is the original three inch bottom. This is the new one with the four inch bottom. So if you have a little bit larger candle or even just a standard four inch candle, that's going to fit in this larger one. And these just landed. We have them here in stock and they just launched yesterday. So is anyone more frustrated when you have a candle, you go to put it in a candle dish and it doesn't fit. That's the worst. Yeah. So orange to the rescue. Go ahead and put your Trudon candle in there, Sue. Yeah. And we can tell them a happy accident that happened to you. I know. Speaking of, I've been smelling this Trudon candle for the last. Oh, wait, one second. I want to really quickly show them the colors. Oh, yeah. Oh, my gosh. Sorry. Okay. So this is the clear. Get the A.L. Sounding straight. This is the clear. This is the smoke and Corey's holding the amber. So the difference between smoke and amber, I'd say smoke is a little bit more like charcoalier and then the amber has some really beautiful warmth in it. Almost walnutty. Yeah. Right. So those are the three colorways that they come in and they're brand new. So I can't even tell you which one's going to be the best seller yet. So you guys decide. Yeah. But what's your favorite? But what was really fun? I really like Corey's. I like the walnutty amber. Yeah. Although the clear just go. I mean, that's like. It's so easy. With the clear small ones, what's the best seller of the smalls? Or maybe we don't know yet because we only offered this. We only offered this. We just barely. That one's winning because just of momentum. Yeah. But. Yeah. The original. There's something just like so buttery. Oh, and such like that one got basted in butter. They get that walnut one. It's really good. Suze is a foodie, you guys. What I was going to say though, a happy accident when these four inch ones came in, we're like, oh, I wonder if the cloche will fit. And it does. Is that freaking gloves? So good. Yeah. So this is just going to be like we said, your traditional, you know, four inch candle. If you're curious, like which one to get, depending on what your favorite candle is, the bigger one might be safer. But if you're going to be using this for a diffuser or if you just throw a measuring tape on the bottom, you'll know which size to get. These are such great gifts. My sister just texted me and she's like, hey, can I get seven of those for my girlfriends for Easter? And I was like, yeah, absolutely. It's like the gift that keeps on getting. It's yeah, such a great price. Bracelet for your candle. It's like a bracelet for your candle. And one of our team members that works on the product with us, we just barely saw these actually this week for the first time because they just landed. The big ones are even more sparkly because there's more bubbles and glass. And it really is just like such a bracelet. Yeah. I love it. A jewelry piece and just adds that, that bit of decor. A little bubble, right? We just don't love a bubble. I know exactly. So the new candle dish is here and we just had to hurry and tell you and show you if you guys tuned in the difference in sizes. So you guys know. You're going to want that in your garden party, inside and outside. Yeah. That's going to migrate. You're probably going to get a couple of them. A few of them so you can try all the colors out. Yeah. Lucky. Yeah. And I think like as a takeaway, like we were saying, bringing the inside stuff outside just gives it that lux feel. I remember when I was looking for an exterior lantern for my porch, I just finally was like, forget it. I'm going to hang an interior fixture outside. And I did. It has been 11 years and it still looks perfect. It's a brass, the Morris pendant from Suzanne Kassler's collection. And it has frosted glass and it just looks so much more extraordinary because it's an inside thing outside. And so when you do bring your blue and white garden jars out for the party and you bring your indoor scents out to the party and, you know, you start to your fancy blankets, stop it when you go to like, kind of cause it's brisk. Yes. Getting cooler at night. Right. Yeah. But those little cash, fancy, fancy minks. Gosh, bring those outside and bring those inside things outside and you'll get so much credit for it. But yeah, start to blur those lines between inside and out and your spaces are going to look so luxe. Yep. So rich. Can't wait for you guys to get your hands on this stuff. It's so brilliant. Yeah. Okay. I love it too. Really quick note. We never put new stuff on sale, but I was able to get a code for just the listeners. It's deer Alice 15. If you guys use it on this new stuff, that code will work. We're not going to type this in the show notes. We don't want anybody to have this code to be able to search it or use it. It's a one time use code. You guys have it. So go get yourself something really nice from the garden room collection. Again, that's deer Alice 15. And if you guys have any episode ideas or any questions, please send those to deer Alice at Alice lane home.com. And we'd love it if you'd leave us a review and share this with a friend that will help the podcast grow. Thanks so much for tuning in guys. We'll catch you next time. Hey, thanks for listening. If you like our show, please leave a five star rating.
