Summary
The Go Birds podcast discusses the Philadelphia Eagles' trade for WR Donovan Wicks, analyzes Howie Roseman's evasive press conference responses about Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown, and previews the NFL Draft one week away. The hosts debate whether Wicks represents good value, the implications of the Eagles' apparent lack of confidence in Hurts, and potential draft strategies.
Insights
- The Eagles' refusal to publicly defend Jalen Hurts after critical ESPN reporting signals internal doubts about the QB, contrasting sharply with how they defended Carson Wentz in 2019
- Donovan Wicks' $7M/2-year contract offers upside potential at a reasonable price point for a starting receiver, but requires him to prove he can handle increased snap counts and targets
- The Eagles may be positioning to trade AJ Brown before the draft and use multiple picks in a deeper 2025 QB class rather than committing to Hurts long-term
- Organizational culture and player motivation matter: the hosts prefer hungry, unproven players like Wicks over established veterans who've already been paid
- The draft strategy of accumulating picks in a strong QB class next year may be more valuable than reaching for a receiver at pick 23 this year

So your car today on Carvonna. Pick up fees may apply. You're listening to the Go Birds podcast. Hey, hello. It is the Go Birds podcast. LHR Park James Seltzer with you. E, that was Kate May. How was your weekend away? Beautiful. Beautiful weather. Nice time. Yes, very nice. I haven't really been to Kate May much. So I feel like it was, I don't know if you've been, but like once or twice, not a big gig. It's my new favorite short point. Yeah. It's not surprising. Yeah. Since I just went because it's the most. Yeah, exactly. But like whichever one was last. Exactly. Yeah. But it was very nice. It's, I feel like it has a very different vibe in the other short points. I agree with that. It's like a little town as opposed to like, also the houses are different as much as I love like Avalon and Seattle. I feel like the houses are a bit cookie cutter there where it's like, which is fine. They're all very nice, but it's like they're built similarly. I feel like Kate May has a lot of like different. Yeah. It's got like a little house. We're personal. Yeah, exactly. So it was good. But of course, the second I get to Kate May, they trade for Don Tavion. Which is very funny. You got nice and nice. It's Tae, remember? I'm going to do Don Tavion. I think Don Tavion. How he calls him Tae. We got to go on Tae. Yeah. I'm going to call him Don. Very Howie. I'm just going Don. Don. Don. Very close to that. About Vian. Don's. We always do the Don or the Tae. What about calling him Vian? It'd be original. V. It's called V. I like V. Or Wix. I feel like Wix is a it's a unique enough. What about the candle? Why the candle? Or Wix. Oh, okay. I thought you meant because he was tall. I thought you meant because he was tall. I don't know. He's like six on. No, you're right. He's not that tall. Wix. The candle. It is funny. We've gotten to the point. Like I'm doing all my draft stuff. And at this point, unless you're six, five or six, six, like, you're just like you're not getting the tree emoji. You're not getting the tall emoji. Like six, four. Occasionally, I'll do it if you have long arms. But but no, it is, of course, they make the trade right away. It's crazy. The drafts a week from now. I crazy. Yeah. A week from tomorrow. Let's get it straight. Let's not well, you know, mislead our audience. So next week, someone's sitting in front of their TV next Wednesday night being like, where is it? Where is it? Just go bird. I'll leave it. It was a day away. Next Saturday. Now we'll see what the schedules are. We could have Phillies Braves, Sixer Celtics, Fliers, Penguins and day three. Oh, I know, buddy. There's not probably many days where all four teams are doing something. No, you're right. Yeah. I mean, there is the sports equinox thing or whatever that happens. Right. I'm sure there is. But top my head is you know, you can't do it like there's no football. I guess. Yeah, you can have so you can only have three at a time. You can't have all four because there's no crossover between most during the World Series. Yeah. Unless you're in the world. Yeah. That is maybe that is when the sports equinox is because it's not going on. It's a World Series. Yes. There is. I knew there was a sports equinox every year where there's like hockey is going on and all four sports are happening at the same place. You need to be in the World Series for your team to, you know, don't worry about that. Well, hey, hey, now, which this is very off topic before we get in. What else is new? Nick Nurse going to batting practice yesterday seemed so absurd to me. So you have a playoff game today. Like it go of any of the other players though. Like, I mean, what's the difference? Like why? Because like I heard like it just I heard John Johnson was worked up about it. Oh, yeah. And I was like, why? Now I'm regretting. But I do think he thought it was unexampled. But it's like, it's like, why? But who cares? Like, do you think he's sitting there for the entire time just writing out plays for it to beat up on the magic? I mean, well, I got those a lot of this when Gannon interviewed like, well, it's different. He's doing it's a job interview. You have to buy another. That's more important than going to practice. What are you 12? You have a playoff game the next time. What do you want to sit in his house? I think that's why he went at four in the afternoon. Yes. Who cares? What's he going to do? Sit at home at night? He probably watched the game for the game the next time. I'm sure he has been. I'm sure he has been. He's a basketball coach. Football. What else does he have to do? He's got his plays written up. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know what basketball coaches do. Football coaches. I'll tell you that. I just think going to batting practice. Like, all right, if you want to go out to dinner, if you have like your games, whatever. It makes no sense because you go early and then get out. I just so funny to me. You have a huge part. You have a huge work event the next day and you're like, you know what I should do? So, real quick, real quick, do you want me to go to batting practice? When you have a huge work event the next day, do you not do anything the day before? I very rarely do things the day before. That's weird. I will do stuff the day before all the time. Don't care at all. So, yeah. It's a little different. Like, if it was, he was out at a bar getting bombed to be like, bro, what do you do? Agreed with that. What's a batting? Like, who cares? It's just the middle of the day. Yeah. Could not disagree with you more. I just think it's silly. Okay. John Johnson can be on the side of me and talk. I can tell from Tucker's face is that he was fully on my side. I'm surprised. I usually are supporting the Sixers and some. I do this. I just have to do a common sense and rationality. I think it'd be nonsense to get on. I actually think going to the Phillies game at night would almost be more acceptable than going to batting practice. No, because he probably went home to watch the basketball games of the team. He might have to play on that. I wouldn't go to the Phillies game, but like, it's like, go meet Rob Thompson. You gotta go ahead. Like, why? Like, do it any other time. Why not? Like, what is the difference? It's just crazy to me that on a day, the day before where he is coaching in a playoff game, he thought to himself, you know what I should do today. It's nice out. Let's go to batting practice. I was probably scheduled. It was probably scheduled earlier as my guess, but regardless, like, I just scheduled earlier. What do you think he's going to do? Just sit in his house all day? Like, it's so weird. No, I wouldn't have been in the office. It was a really weird tape. It was a weird tape. I think with the situation he's in, I agree he's not going to work 24 seven, but I would certainly like to think he is. I wouldn't you like to think he's like, so locked in. I think that would be ridiculous to assume that a basketball coach spent 24 hours the day before doing nothing else but watching. I'm not saying 24 hours, but I'm saying you want to. So I went home on the same plan. I think that he is. I actually know. I actually see him locked in necessarily. I actually do think that you need to step away from things. Like, I think it's important to like temper what you're doing. I think you can actually get like hurt yourself by folk. Like, I love you cross reposals. We do them all the time together. It's super fun, but like you can get hung up. You try to figure something out. You like, you need to step away from it and then you come back to it and you're like, Oh, I did not think of that before because you need to step away from things. I don't completely disagree with that, but like, go do something other than I mean, agreed. It is a great. Yeah. I like 100% disagree. So it knew obviously aren't back in the end. So we're not going to get anywhere. It's just silly to me. I think it I think it I think it's honestly, I think it's crazy. They better win tonight. No cares. They stink. Like, and there's nothing doing Nick Nurse anyway. They're just not good enough. Like whatever. I think Nick Nurse is not a very great coach. I think he's a fine coach. Like he's not helping them in my opinion. I don't think he's hurting them. I don't know. I think he's probably helping them more than hurting, but I don't. I think there's fine. He's had so much crap to deal with. Like I think I don't think anyone can succeed in that situation. Yeah, I think it's a very tough spot to be in. It is for sure. Welcome aboard. Especially when you're batting practice. So are you? That was helpful. I just, I honestly, I think it's a great you and John Johnson be on your side and we'll be on the other side. We are. Yeah. I like that. Yep. So internalize that. Better win. Okay. They're not going to cares. They stink. Like they might win. Cause the magic stink also, but like I don't, I really don't think that people be like, Oh, Nick Nurse was a batting practice. I'm going to be mad. I think there'll be some people like John Johnson overnight. Yeah. And you, I do not think many people feel this way. I think you are. Let's play this way. Like we didn't mention it on the morning show. Like it didn't even come up. So we'll see you tomorrow. Okay. I think you can live on your little island. You're loving on islands. Yeah. All right. Let's get to the birds because that's more than enough talk about a team that isn't going anywhere no matter what, even if they win or not, even if they win on Friday, they're losing the first round. So we have many others since the Wix trade, as you mentioned, I was somewhat shocked to hear you on the morning show. Like you are not, you don't just like this trade. You are over the top in love with this trade. The floor is yours. Well, so what I said, I think that caught the attention was, I think it could be one of the best contracts in the, oh yeah, among other things. I mean, you said you just love, I really like, I like him a lot. Like Tucker and I, I don't know if you heard our pop, but we liked it. We're like, I wouldn't play maybe I didn't listen. So I like, we like the trade that we thought anecdotally, I think he's made plays when I watch him and stuff like that. We'll see you came in hot. I like him a lot as a player. Like he's, he's 6-1. He's a good route runner. He's had trouble with drops for sure, which is something he needs to work on. He's not super fast. Not super fast. Neither is AJ for what it's worth. Like, well, AJ is faster than him. 40 was. Yeah, like eight years younger. Yeah. Yeah. Like I heard John Richie bring up AJ's 40 time. AJ ran his 40 time a lifetime ago. Like AJ is not, you know, it was the first time in AJ's career last year. He didn't hit 20 miles per hour in a play. So I, look, AJ is a better player than Wix is 2025. AJ better than Wix, like probably, but I don't know. I think so. And look, I'd like to, again, that's my, and this is anecdotal. I don't watch every Packers game, but whenever I've seen them, I feel like he stands out and he makes a great. I, and I, he barely, he never played more than 50% of the snaps. He doesn't get a ton of targets. I think he'll start for the eagle. Now that does, that is something people would say to you. It's like, why not more if he's so good? Well, they have, they have good receivers. He was a fifth round pick. I think they're all, all those guys are like kind of the same. I think they do. And I think the Eagles are actually trying to mimic that. That's what I sound about. I think what they're really doing is they're trying to raise the level of five through two in receiver, rather than worrying about just having two great guys. I think they want to be able to spread the ball around the field. Whoever's open that day, that's who's getting the ball. I think ideally, that's what they want. Well, I also think like they probably are a little annoyed with having to worry about getting people the ball. Like think about the end of last year. Devante is out there just to get a thousand yards. Like maybe they'll do that for Wix. Who knows? I think Wix could get a thousand yards this year. Just putting that out there now. But the contract is really, I think, like what I really like. So it's only seven. Because I think a lot of people looked at and was like 12 and a half million. And I know you break it up into two years. But like 12 and a half million seems like a lot for a guy who is unproven. I get it. If he's good, he has to be good. But if he's good, seven million a year for two years is a great good. He has the upside to be a great contract. But if he's what he's been, it's not. Right. It's okay. It's a fine contract. But it's not a great one. I think he'll start. Like so for seven million for is it starting? Yeah, he does. For sure. You know, it's a starter. It doesn't mean you're worth the money. Agreed. But I think if you were to say, like, how many, I'll be curious on how many starting receivers in the NFL make less than seven million a year. It's probably not much if you don't include rookie deals, right? So you're right. He has to produce without question, right? But I just think seven million a year, whatever it averages out to is a good contract for him. And I think if I think he will play well, like I do think he will play well. And so because of that, I think it's a great contract. So they're basically, okay, so they're buying out one year, right? So he already went one year cheaper than one year left. So they're basically paying for the first year of free agency to try to think he's going to have a good year and then you're getting one year cheaper to know about what they believe in. Yeah, what they believe in. But again, it also could be a massive mistake. You could have just had this guy. If he's not good and you had this guy for a year at $3 million, whatever it was, and then you're adding an extra $14 million, $12 million, $13 million, whatever it is to it, like that wouldn't be good. Well, there is risk here. So I also think like, look, we'll talk about the draft. Let's say they draft a receiver at 23, right? Then Duntaven Wicks becomes the three. Like maybe he's the two this year, but like if you draft someone at 23, you're probably 100% right. Even if Duntaven Wicks gives you what he gave the Packers, let's say he gives you 400 yards a year, three touchdowns. Like, I'm not even sure that's terrible for his age, size, knows the offense. It's not good. It's not great. I agree. John dots. So great. Yeah, a little bit better. I would not like to pay the number three receiver. Yeah, exactly. We would be exact. But I'd much rather give Duntaven Wicks $7 million than Hollywood Brown five and a half. I would. Yeah, I don't disagree with that. I like Wicks better as an upside player. He's young. Brown. The other thing I brown has been better in the NFL without a doubt. Hollywood Brown. Yeah. Yeah, I think not recently, but yeah, but period. I mean, Hollywood Brown has done things. They have all Wicks is not smelled. Yeah. Well, how many years has my browns had over a thousand years in her seat in a season? So I'm trying to remember. I'm sure you did early in his career. I know he was he was really good early in his career. I don't know exactly. Not been good recently. But regardless, the other thing I like about Wicks is I think there's just something for like having players on the offense that feel like they need to prove something. I think they've been an offense, especially last year. I don't disagree. But I've used as a thing and it's the independent contractor. I don't love the independent contractor thing, but he's under contract. So a thousand eight yards in twenty twenty one was Brown's best. OK, so that's a while ago. But like I think last year, we talked about this throughout the year, they were like slow on offense. And while the Tavion Wicks is not fast, I think he will try his hardest on every single snap. And I don't think you can say that you can't about a EJ, but you could say that about 99 percent of NFL receivers. But I think last year, like the blocking from the receivers was poor. I don't think like nobody had a great year. So I like the idea of having somebody that feels like they still need to earn their place in the NFL. I don't disagree with that. Whereas I think everyone on the Eagles offense last year had been paid, has their awards, won a Super Bowl. Other than Dodson. Other than Dodson. Yeah. So I just that's what I like about the Wicks deal. I don't think it's a ton of money. I think for a starting receiver, it's pretty good. I think he's motivated. I think he has upside. Like these are the things I like. I like guys with upside. Like I that's why I don't like Hollywood Brown, right? Like Hollywood Brown is where he is in his career. He's a nice player, I guess. He's fine. He's not like nice is strong. I think he's a fine. Exactly. Yeah. Like I don't think Hollywood Brown is living and dying with the Eagles success next year. Right. I think Duntape and Wicks is coming into next year thinking like, here's my chance to be great. I agree. And I like that attitude. I don't disagree. I didn't know. I don't disagree with that. And again, like I like Wicks. So like I'm more playing devil's advocate towel. Yeah. How far you are going with with the positive. And look, I said when I was on with Tucker, I like Sean Manion. Like I believe. Well, I'm saying to your guys. That's what I'm saying. So if I like Sean Manion, I am more likely to trust that Sean Manion and the wide receipt. What's the guy tight end coach? I really can never pronounce it, which is very on par. It's Ryan Mahaffey. Ryan Mahaffey. He was the receiver coach. He was exactly. So like these guys know Duntape and Wicks. They clearly went to Alian said, go get exactly. And I really like that. So I bet for me, that's something that stood out to me as like, I like that. And again, they could be wrong and man, you might not work. And it's all a bleep show. But I think that if if Manion is going to work that you take that risk on the guy that he thinks is underrated and undervalued. Yeah. I 100% agree. And again, he's not AJ Brown, right? But I also think we need to look at AJ Brown, what AJ Brown was. What he is now and now what he is. I heard that. And AJ, excuse me, AJ does not want to be here. So like ultimately, well, I think they will miss AJ. And I think in an ideal world, you would, you know, hopefully convince AJ and like, I'm with you on that. But I just mean like AJ is still a decent player. Of course. Yeah. So in an ideal world, none of this is ever happening. He's coming into next year, him and Jalen are best friends, but that's not the world we live in. So it doesn't matter. I just think like, yes, Wicks is not, Wicks is not AJ Brown. But I think there's a lot to like about Wicks that pokes at what the weaknesses of AJ are. Like AJ has made a lot of money. AJ, I'm sure, is still motivated, but he's also proven himself in the NFL. AJ doesn't want to be here, right? So like, AJ doesn't seem to like the quarterback. So I just think, well, Wicks is not the player AJ Brown is. It's easy to get excited about them. About the profile of them. And it's hard to get excited about the idea of AJ being back on the team with everything we know. Yeah. I think it's just, and again, I, you know, overall, and we talked about it, I like this move. Like on the whole, you know, I was a little questioning the 12 and a half mil, but you know, thinking about two years on, like, I think it's a good move. But like, we have never seen Don Tavion Wicks do what they need him to do for it to be a good move. For sure. Also has never been asked to do it. That's true. But you are right. He has not done it. Absolutely. All right. Let's get to the Howie thing and the whole Jalen of it all. I don't know about you. I felt like how he normally talks the week of the draft. It was a little surprising that he's normally the week before. Are you sure? I'm not sure. I mean, it's normally the week of like, really like 10 days before. Oh, so I feel like he normally speaks like the Tuesday of the week. I could be wrong. My memory is it's normally the week before. But I don't think it's relevant. We'll get to the Jalen answer because that's the main thing. But just before just overall in the room, I'll tell Howie and money I had to say. I mean, it's the press conference where every year Howie is giving, trying to give the least about it. Yeah, exactly. So I did think not to bury the lead of AJ and Jalen, but I thought he said interesting stuff about developing offensive linemen. I kind of think he's lying because I think they don't want to draft a first. Like he used the example of Cam Jerrigans of how we drafted Cam Jerrigans a year early because we thought he could be an all time like great center. And look, Cam has proven to be a very good center. Not last year, but he's proven to be a good center. The issue of how he said is they played Cam at guard for a year. So like who they take in the first round if they take someone in the first round, like, I think we'll play next year. So when Howie talks about the benefit of learning from older players, and I think that's something they definitely believe in. And like, but I think you have to take someone in the first round that can play. And so if you're going to take a tackle in the first round, I think that means he is starting a guard in my opinion. Interesting. And I don't think they would take a straight up guard. And we've debated this and I want them to take the best. I think they'll be the best. Yeah. This is the point you've made this point that's resonated with me. Like, I would rather take the best tackle prospect. Like if I'm looking at two players and look, we're talking in, you know, hypotheticals here to an extent like, yeah, we might now at this point, there's true players, right? So like if I'm looking at, I don't know, I'm going to use, use my like Monroe Freeling. Monroe Freeling is a great tackle prospect. Like, Kaylin Proctor is viewed as like a great athlete that can maybe do both. Like if you're drafting the lane replacement, I would take the guy that you think is the best tackle prospect. So but then again, like they have questions to guard. So is it the worst thing in the world? I don't know. Yeah, it's a fascinating thing to play. That was I think for tomorrow's pot. I think we start to really dive into the draft because we're a week away tomorrow. You've been doing the research. I think tomorrow we're going to really dive in. So tune in for that. I know there's a lot of big draft fans and go birds, you know, fans. So we will definitely dive deep in the draft. But I'm excited to hear your draft. Oh, buddy. I'm watching this tonight. Full of them. I've got like two. Do you have players you like yet? Yeah. Okay. I got, I got, I got same for tomorrow. Yeah. I got two guys. I like so far. So far. I don't have any offensive linemen I like, which was the position I initially wanted to take those. So we'll have to, you know, watch it and learn about offensive linemen as hard. That's why I like I did guests for the pod on that one because they just smart, they know more about smart. You know, you need fiber for a healthy gut, but do you actually know how to get it? Um, well, let's get to the Jalen AJ stuff now with with how it will start with the Jalen answer. And then we'll get to some of his answers on AJ. You asked the question front and center for it. I thought it was a really strange how he rose man answer like he doesn't. It felt uh, Rhea use the word clunky on the morning chart that that was kind of a good word for it. It felt like a clunky answer from how he in a spot where he's normally very suave and very smooth. Yeah. Um, so I thought, what did you mean? I think actually a good word to use for it since you know, I've had almost 24 hours think about it is purposeful. Like I Rhea is a goat, but like I don't know if I'd use the word clunky. Like I guess like the second part didn't really match the first part, but um, to me it felt like they were obviously prepared for it. How he's not done. It wasn't how he knows that he's in no, I will say, and this is on all of us as a media core. I'm kind of shocked he didn't get asked it. Now once I thought about it, I was like, how is nobody asking about the jail? I thought it'd be the first question agreed. And I didn't think about until 10 minutes, 10, 15 minutes in. And then I asked obviously, but like, so maybe they were sitting there and thinking, wow, we're not going to get this regardless. They know it. Yeah. Regardless. They got asked. Right. So, and I'm sure they thought about being asked how he, and I didn't ask the question in this way, how he clearly wanted to put the message out there that they did not use the media. Yeah. That was his whole thing. He's like, we don't do that. He was defensive of the organization. Yes. And a question that I thought was, was asked and I asked like to be defensive of Jalen, right? Like, well, that was what Rhea's thing is. I say, she didn't even, he didn't even say Jalen's name. He didn't say like, Jalen's our quarterback. We loved you. You would think that when that article gets asked about with what was in the article, he would come out and be like, we love Jalen. We hate that this is now getting enough to I get what he did to your point. You know, he defended the organization. Yeah. Like, he didn't have to, but I don't know, man. Like, so when the, I think that to that point, like, he didn't have to, but I think the fact that he didn't was a choice. For sure. That's my thing. I think it's purposeful. I think like, he, like, I think in a lot of ways, without confirming it, despite what he said, he confirmed that they are, yeah, his whole message was basically like, it's unfortunate at least, but we tell our players what, yeah, it was nothing about the message itself. And whether it was true or not, none of it, right? Like he could have very easy been like, yeah, I saw it, you know, he could have taken a shot, which he did, which I didn't think was cool, but like, oh, that's what sells. But like, I thought that was weak. Yeah. I think that was super all. Yeah. So that's what just sells like, bro, you just said it's true. Number one, but, but also basically, but like, he could have easily been like, yeah, I saw it. I have to read everything about the team. Like, I disagreed with all of it. Jalen is one of the most coachable players I've been around. I've not heard a bad word about Jalen. One of us is Super Bowl. Like, exactly. Like, I'm in here. I'm in here every day. I have no idea where this stuff comes from. Exactly. So obvious. And I hate that it gets that it's out. And he decided to defend the organization, which I get over Jalen. That's, but he could full stop. Now, the other thing I'll say before we get to neck is when the Joe Sandel Quillo article came out about Carson in 2018 or 19 or whatever it was, it was 28. Yeah, I guess it was in the all like it could have been 20. They did. Oh, 20. 20. Because he got the contract. It's 2019. It was January of 2019. Yeah. Because he got, yeah, it was 2019. It was my first shift at WIP. Was it really the day of the article? It was you and Bartlett filling in on the midday. Hey, did you have a take on it? I don't think so. No, I don't think we let him on the mic. Yeah, I barely knew how to push the buttons. Yeah. But like when, when that article came out about Carson, they did a full court press to try to be like, it's not true. Carson, Carson met with reporters. Teammates tweeted things out, right? Like they were like doing everything they can to say that wasn't true. These two articles come out, which I would think are very comparable to the Carson one. If not like, you could almost swap names, right? Yeah, or worse, right? Because, because, and again, this is nothing against San La Quido, but this came from ESPN. Like, you know what I mean? Like San La Quido, I know that. Yeah. You know, there was a pushback. There was a lot of like, what do you do with the worst? Like again, people like just house all kinds of stuff like people, like that's right or whatever some crazy stuff that happened. Like with this, like people might believe it, not believe whoever. This is from ESPN. Like this is, this is from the worldwide leader, you know? Yeah. So I think that. McMannus who's been covering this. Exactly. So I think this, the, the, the report and also it was way more detailed. Like again. This one you're talking about. Yeah. Yeah. McMannus is like, there were way more sources in that one than about Carson. Carson, like, say like we were like a few sources in it. This was like what, 12 different sources or something? Yeah. Like this is what I'm saying. So that's my point is I actually think this article was worse. Yeah. Now there was a little more of the other side in this. At least you got like the support of Jame was, I think the same like we know, I felt pretty like only on car. Yeah. But, but I would say overall when you take the whole situation and the publication, everything into account, I think this is probably worse. Well, and what's crazy is Jalen has won them a super lot more for them. Yeah. So like it really tells you deep down, they felt Carson was a better quarterback than Jalen was. Like again, I always feel the need to say is like, we can have our opinion, the person listening to have their opinion. The Eagles opinion seems pretty clear at this point. Like, I don't think they would have traded Carson if he didn't want to get traded. I think they would have tried it one more year with them. I think it worked out well, obviously. But like the Eagles internally do not seem to think Jalen is a great quarterback. Like I don't know how many more times the message can be clear. And when, how he gets an opportunity at the podium, when these articles have come out about someone that has done a lot for his team and passes on the chance to defend Jalen, like again, I thought of this example on the DailyPod, but I think a better one. You try to use Kristen and it didn't work well. But like it would be like if an article came out that said we both hated Tucker, right? And we were doing a press conference. Someone was like, Hey, what do you think of the Tucker article? And I was like, yeah, it's a shame that got out. Right? Like pride ourselves. We pride ourselves in telling people we don't like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Look, if we don't like Tucker, we're going to tell them those face in the next part of it. Right? So let's say we like you. Let's say you're, I can only make that joke because we like Tucker. Yeah. If they were even like the tiniest bit of question we would be talking about. So like, but now imagine you're Tucker watching that press conference and I answer the question and you just sit there quietly. You're right. So if I'm Jalen and I'm watching that, am I thinking, A, how he passed on a chance to defend me, which is annoying. Now Jalen already knows how they feel about him. So I don't think Jalen's like shocked by any of this, right? But him and Nick, I've gotten the impression are close. I've gotten closer. I understand. Like, look, I did say how he and Nick, when I asked the question, maybe he didn't hear me. There's a lot of people. Yeah. Right. It felt like in the audio, when you hear back, it's not clear hearing how you're Jalen, you want Nick to jump in and be like, we love Jalen. Well, that's the point I'm making. And this is why I use Kristen initially, but like, let's talk about me and you were at the podium. I answered the question. Let's say you answer it. Right. I think I would feel the need to be like, and just so you know, like, we love to talk about guy, like, I was awesome. Like, I saw the articles, everyone has to do their job. But like, I couldn't be more excited that he's our producer. Yeah. And that's what I think. That's that exact phrase. Yeah. Put out. You're gonna send that to our. Yeah. Seriously, Jalen and quarterback, instead of Tucker producer. Yeah. Like, if you jump in, like, it's such a different now, you could argue, like, he doesn't have to go above and beyond. And also, you should. I agree. But also, I think you could argue, you're sitting next to your boss and your boss just said something. You don't want to come in and that's fair to be, you know, kind of submarine what your boss just said. But like, I don't disagree. But I but the whole point is regardless of that, all that matters is if you're Jalen watching it and what he takes away from it. Yeah. And I also think what matters is like, they didn't want to dispute the story. They did. They did not want to. Well, again, to the point you made initially when the story came out, like the Eagles didn't push back on it. Like, it was no counter report. There was no report from someone else being like, actually, they loved Jalen. You know what I mean? So I think the answer was very telling. And I think it's very obvious that Jalen is entering a year this year, where his Eagles career is on the line. Now, the good news for Jalen is he has earned. He has won a Super Bowl. He has made hundreds of notes. He has proved so many people wrong. Yes, exactly. People in his own building over and over. But that's just I don't love either of like, I know, but but but it does seem to work for Jalen. Yeah, I think this is the loudest it's ever been. You could argue you could argue 21. Well, you could argue getting benched is an 18 year old Alabama. Yeah, true. I'm talking with the Eagles. Yeah. But like, I think 21 into 22 was pretty much he was pretty like, hey, you yeah, but this is different because now his whole career had not been established. He has won a Super Bowl for you. Yeah. Yeah. He's a Super Bowl VP for you. Yeah. It's fascinating. So I just thought if I'm Jalen, I wouldn't love. I would be. Maybe Jalen doesn't see it. But who knows? Probably not. But yeah, I meant to do this and I didn't. But also it's not my skill set. Like, I think B. Hill G should do this. I would love to see last thing on this, how they answered questions about the Carson article. You mean go back and find out. Yeah, exactly. Right. So like, that's your really respond. Yeah. Come on, Brandon. I'll text him. I think it would be like super interesting to see. Yeah, I would guarantee you the response was not no great job. Honestly, like it's a fascinating idea for an article. Yeah, I think it could be really interesting. All right. Quickly before we get to my thoughts, I want to talk about his answers on AJ. Because, you know, nothing's changed that much. But your Nick was laughing at the one point when he was like, AJ's on the team. What do you make of, look, well, he was laughing to be fair because how he was laughing in everyone in the audience was laughing. I know, but it's like that's what I didn't love. That's what that's my point. I didn't love it either. That's what I'm saying. I didn't love that. Like you're like playing along with him trying to distract. Yes. Yes. Yeah. You're allowing it to go on. But what do you make of where we're at this whole thing? And look, we should mention, because you're talking about a lot. Like I don't know that there's anything to add to this, but the interesting did resign from the athletic of anyone did not see that. I'll be curious to see what happens with variable. Yeah, nothing. Nothing. But the athletics said they're still going to go through with their investigation. We'll see if that ever gets out. I'm sure the leak at some point, whatever. But we'll see where that all goes. But what did you make of how he addressed the whole thing? I mean, I don't think there's much to investigate in terms of the source. Like I think it's pretty clear. Right. So like, I think the information is obviously correct. But like in terms of how he answered it, again, and you know, if I would have been, if I asked him, Hey, you guys signed Damon Pierce, what's this mean for sake one? He would have probably been left. Yeah, he would have laughed. It means nothing. We love sake one. He's, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah, right. And Jimmy Kemp's he pointed this out. I think it's a good one. Like they are answering the AJ questions questions different than they were before when they first got the AJ question. It was we love him. He's our favorite. We win without a guy like that. You need great players. And now it's AJ Browns and Eagle because it is different. You're right. AJ will get, I think AJ will get traded. The question is really if the Patriots back out, what do you do? What do you do? That's really what the question is because I think like the draft is going to basically decide what happens with AJ because I think AJ will get traded, but the draft will decide where AJ goes. If the Patriots, so it was funny, we were doing a draft meeting, like preparing for the station and everything. And we're like, all right, the Eagles are at number 23. And I said, you know, like pick 31 is pretty big too. The Patriots pick. Eagles could trade for that pick. Yeah, we're going to have to wait till after that big to do our pod. The Patriots could the Patriots could the Patriots could draft or a see over there. So like a lot could happen there, right? By the way, real quick, wasn't the draft last year during wasn't it during six years? Well, yeah, there was six years ago. It was two years ago. I knew there was something where we had 53. Yeah, I knew there was something where we had something like this going on. Anyway, go ahead. Well, it could happen again. That's why I brought it up. Well, I was just to get about staying up late for the pod. And I was actually thinking, you know, like for me personally, like actually kind of a good night. I have to stay up for a playoff. Anyway, it could I actually would mind the double TV, the whole thing. Yeah. I'm always thinking about me and I have my sleep. That is it. That is my primary factor. Yeah, I think about my sleep quite a bit with my sleep score. I'd still love to love to put an ordering on you for a week. Just your ring. Watch the heartbreak. Yeah, it would be if I give you mine, it would be like you need to go to the hospital. Like you are not sleeping. But what was I saying? Oh, the draft, right? So I think the question is if the Patriots back out, what do the Eagles do? And I think they will trade him to another team. I think when you have decided to trade a player, it's really hard to put that back in like I totally you can do it. But like, it's hard. Like you've probably budgeted the money elsewhere, right? You save $30 million in cash. If you trade AJ, I was talking to Matt, GoBirdsListender Matt. Matt Gorm, shout out to Matt. Awesome, awesome, awesome guy. And you know, we were talking about the AJ thing and they were asking like, what do you think about the June 1st thing and the cap thing? And like, I still don't buy it. I still think that is something that Howie wants out there so that teams feel like they have to pay more. But the interesting thing is that Mike Garrafalo said this, that Howie wants a premium to trade him before June 1st. That also implies once June 1st hits that premium goes away. So again, look, maybe Howie will pull a rabbit out of the hat. He certainly could. It's possible. It just doesn't feel to me like they're going to get a true first round pick. I think they will get a second and could become a first or something. Well, also number 31, if they trade for AJ, let's say the night of the draft, they trade AJ to the Patriots for number 31. Like, would you consider that a true first? Yeah, I would. But it's like obviously the lowest value first. It's a first. Yeah. But it's it has to get is a first, but it is the lowest possible value. I mean, you take it into equation where the first is. And it is a first. And I think they'll say second lowest value. And they'll yeah, basically, they'll say, they'll say, well, the player that was there, we view as a top 15 players. Of course. So we view this as a top 15. Yeah, of course. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I think AJ is gone now. It's interesting. I'm going to try to go to this, but he's holding a AJ Brown. AJ Brown is holding a youth football camp on May 3rd in Allen Town. You got to go. So if you're listening and have kids, it seems like an awesome opportunity. Yeah. Like, I would think this would sell out pretty well. He's going to get some questions. Yeah. I don't know if he'll speak to me. Yeah. Well, I just think on the side lab, AJ, you can say. Oh, for sure. I think that's my point. Almost props props him for doing. Yeah, I'm surprised. I was with it because it sounds terrible for him. He's going to be traded at the draft. Yeah, maybe now. And then he's doing one after June 1st as well. We'll see if you know that one's up. Is that one in New England? Yeah. Exactly. Maybe this time you up for when the Patriots are here for the joint practice or yeah. So my last draft take I had for you. Don't forget tomorrow draft. Yeah, it's not a player, not the Kevin Costner movie. I'll talk about the draft. I want to rewatch that. It's entertaining. Well, it's I mean, it's not good, but it's entertaining. I'm pretty firmly in the camp now. I say Mack at all costs. Is it Vonte Mack? No, it's not. It's something else. Vonte Mack. It was. Okay, so I'm right. Vonte Mack. The linebacker. It was a middle linebacker. Play by Chadwick Boseman. Yeah, he was. Play by Chadwick Boseman. In the first round. Oh, yeah. The first overall. I don't think it's a stretch to say we will never see a middle linebacker go first overall. Especially one that weighs like 195 pounds. So ridiculous. At all costs. Well, six or tonight. But you've never seen draft day? No, I have. I haven't seen it in a while. Oh, yeah. Watch that instead of the 800 awesome movies I told you about. I just told you like fine. There was a new Plathville last night. I got a lot to get to here. But I'm pretty locked into. I think if we're recording the post draft pod and you're saying what's the best outcome, I think the best possible outcome is getting a first round pick in next year's draft for number 23. Sure. I think like for number 23, I think meant for AJ. No, for number 23. Oh, well, you want to treat out the first round. Yeah. Here's my logic. Well, I know next year's draft is supposed to be better. Yes. Much for what they say. So here's my logic. You I personally, when I look at it, don't think there's anyone at 23 where I've gone and been like, what a steal this. Like I would, you know, this is now again, this is my evaluation. Obviously, I'm wrong most of the time. So like, but like I'm looking at number 23 and thinking I don't think I'm getting a great player there. I also think that if you get the first round pick for next year, you go into the 2027 draft with two first round picks, possibly three, depending if you get a true one quarterback thing. Well, it is, but also hold on. And the second round picks. Let's say you get a second or a first for AJ, you go into next year's draft, you is extremely deep with four picks in the first two in the first two rounds. I would rather if I'm getting a lane replacement or a jail and replacement, I'd rather trade up and get a premium prospect than try to find a premium player at 23. So we would all agree going into the draft. The biggest need is for them to find a lane replacement, right? Well, I mean, depending on how you feel about Jalen, but yeah, well, or we'll say Jalen, right? I would rather go into a super deep draft class with tons of great prospects, with tons of picks and go and get the guy as opposed to try to like half it. I'm fine with that. I don't hate it. It depends on how the draft, I mean, look, there might be a guy who they can get at 15 and move up this year. They think it's a superstar. You know, I mean, all depends, but yeah, I don't hate the plosby. Yeah, I just think like there's a chance next year the Eagles might be looking for a quarterback and owning a first. I disagree. Look how he's done this before. He's I don't think it's a great draft. Yeah. Yeah, interesting. And we're back in the Miller's yard. Despite the heat, their true green lawn is thriving. All right, let's get to my thoughts. Okay. So I think a really funny fantasy football bat. I hope I haven't done this one. You haven't. Okay. So have you ever watched the show? Well, you're a CEO in fantasy football leagues. Yeah, there's a punisher. There's a loser has to do something embarrassing. I think a great fantasy football loser, Pat, would be you have to get on the show. My strange addiction. So what's the show? All right. So my strange addiction is about a weird people that like collecting like dust bites or something. You're like people like I love my car or like people that it's a weird. Yeah, they do weird things. So it's like, you know, not to judge. So you have to pretend to have a certain you have to get away. You have to get on the show. So like you have to come up to attempt. I mean, you can't control it if they don't choose you can try your best. But like, right? Well, obviously you can't control it. Yeah, that's my point. But like, I would think, I would think they're not picking from a wide swath. I don't know. I would bet. I bet you it's more than you think it is. It's probably more than I think you're watching the show. Yeah. But like, I'm saying, Oh, I think people watch it. My point is that people watch their people are doing this. They're you're that guy would not be the only person trying to get on the show. Yeah. I think so I think you would have a decision because the other thing too is I feel like they with a show like that, my guess is they're pretty like they're pretty used to like people who are like trying to get on the show. We're just like actually addicted to their thing. Right. Because you probably talk to family. I would guess like they talk to family members also like do a ton of family. No, no. So you could fake it. I also think if you're my strange addiction, to be honest, like I don't really care if you're faking it. Wow. I'm just being real. So you don't even care what you're watching. Yeah. Like, well, what do I care if like you truly love your car? You're willing to go on TV and pretend you love your car and like you're just watching like a scripted TV show. It's fine. Okay. Most people. Yeah. But I'm just saying like I like that you're at least accepted the trash. Like I don't think I don't think you watch some of the worst stuff. It really is amazing. A lot of people watch it. It should sure. Like I said, it should be truly nominated for best shows and less people watch it than used to it. Yeah. Maybe. Yeah. Well, I think probably less people watching TV in general. Well, also there's a 10 billion different things. I mean, I'm sure there are shows that you watch that you are like one of a few hundred thousand people who watch it or whatever, you know, get some deep cut reality shows. I almost cursed. I went, I just think if I'm my strange addiction, it's not the end of the world. I think it's a fun, a fun concept. Yeah. I know. Hard to get on it. Sorry. It would be easiest, easy enough to get on. It'd be embarrassing. Talk about lifelong too. Like that's on TV. So I think it'd be a good one. I would never agree to do it. But no, of course you wouldn't. You would never do that. I would like to say, and this is directed at you, but not specifically. It's actually directed at me this time. But don't be afraid to check out old stuff, man. Well, you know, I know it's not your thing. I find so I've been so I didn't I tried reading reading Isaac Asimov about 15 or so years ago. So but I wasn't in the sci fi much yet. Reading sci fi like me. But since I've read a lot of sci fi and I'm back and I'm reading Isaac Asimov and it's amazing. Like there's a reason he's the God he's the God he is the most he is like the him and Ray Bradbury. But like Bradbury is a little you know, these are just authors. You're talking Isaac Asimov is like the most famous. He's like the father of sci fi. What's his most famous foundation? And he wrote it in 1950, 51, 52. And I've always been like, that's all, you know, it's old books. Like I don't I'm wrong. They're amazing. They're so great. I'm obsessed with Isaac Asimov. It is phenomenal. Read old stuff just because it was made in 1950 doesn't mean it can't still be. I think with books, they age the best because there's no like technology. Yeah, exactly. Movies and music, they're a new evolution. Yeah. Books are so great. And that's the point. Go back and there's a lot of especially old like I mean, you've talked about this like a lot like they made old movies differently for people who had longer tensions fans or this that like it's better. It's better. I watched a Charlie Chapman movie at one point. Yeah. Over the past like two years. Why would you watch a Charlie Chapman movie? That's what I thought when I was watching it. It was brutal. Yeah. I'm not even telling you to watch silent movies. I would not say watch. Yeah. Well, I'm sure at the time it's impressive at the time. Yeah. But like what are you doing? It's so crazy. I think that's what people would like watch and be like, Whoa, like I get why? No, I know. I'm just saying. Probably the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Oh my God. There's a screen that I can watch things on. It is great. I don't think we give enough credit. How crazy it is we can capture images like think about the fact that we can take a picture of something. It is like music. If you put me in a prison cell and said invent a camera and build it, I would die in prison. I know we've talked. You could give me the parts and I would be like, well, maybe if you gave me the parts and instruction manual. But like even then, I think it would take me a minute. The point is, is don't be afraid. Elliot Chura Parks. Don't be afraid of things because they're old. I'm not. You know what? Greatness is greatness. I don't disagree with you. It's just not. Read some Isaac Asim. It's amazing. So good. I'm not expecting you. You don't even like sci-fi. Now, does sci-fi like hold up? Like what's like the, because I'm trying to think that I think there's something, there's a thought here of like writing sci-fi in the 1950s. That's what's amazing. Harder than doing it now. Exactly. That's what's amazing. Now, we think we could do anything in 1950. I feel like there was true limitation. That's, I think what's amazing is how, how good it is and how like nothing feels dated. All the stuff they talked about in the future, like none of it's been created yet. I'm sure there are things that will when I get to it. Like, oh, like that's kind of like what we have now or whatever. Because it was 50 years, or I'm sorry, 76 years ago, this guy wrote this, you know, it's amazing. It's amazing. And writing stuff. I mean, 1950 is not the best example. 76 years ago. I'm reading a book from 76 years ago, and it's amazing. 76ers. It's true. And it's about millions of years of history. Right. So six or so. Sure. And I, yeah, I kind of forgot. Yeah. That's, that says it all right there. It does. That's the attitude you get when your coach is at batting practice the day before they get that talk. Yeah. Like talk about locked in. That's what you get from being this organization for the last decade. Agreed. And this is part of it. No, it's nothing. Nicknars is not a part of it. I don't think I'll ever in all my years of doing this pod with you. I don't think there'll ever be anything you hate more than the sixers. Like, I know you don't hate me. No, I love this. No, I know. I know you love the sixers. I mean, like this. I'm the one defending Nicknars. You're the one ripping Nicknars. What are you talking about? No, no, I know. Today I am defending Nicknars here. Agreed. But I think no team are put, I only rephrase this. No team that I've talked with you about in our time knowing each other has aggravated you the way the sixers do. Yeah. It is. They aggravate me. Yes, exactly. That's what I'm saying. But the Phillies did before they got good. Like I talked the same way about the Phillies in 2019. I still think you love the Phillies. I do. I'm not saying you don't love the sixers. I'm more of a baseball fan. Yeah, exactly. I'm more of a sixers person than I'm a Phillies. Yeah. But you are also a you allow like I was a huge fan of the process. Like I loved all that. I was fully on board with Hinky the whole thing. But like at a certain point you got to step back and be like, well, I'm there now. Yeah, it did. But you know what? I also got more years of fandom. But like one fandom too. Really good. You got some really good times in there. It is crazy how quickly things change. Like if you would have told me two months ago that you could make an argument the Flyers have the brightest future. I'd be like, that's crazy. Well, and if nothing else, the Flyers way more interesting, like people are way more interested in the Flyers in the six. Well, and you know why it's wild. It's like this is just such newness. Yeah, it's such the benefit of being new. The Flyers have never heard us the way the Sixers have. Like the Phillies made the World Series. They're, you know, I don't even know if definitely a better team. The Flyers ending up with 98 points is pretty crazy. Yeah. But the Phillies could very well just be a 500 team this year. Regardless, they certainly went into the year expected. They were better team last year, probably in twenty nine years. Because of past failures that only happened because of the success. I know the Flyers have had no success. And now expectations matter, buddy. I do have a Flyers take if you're interested. I'm not. Okay. He's not. No, I'm just kidding. I am quickly, quickly. Go ahead. I think I want to go. I think we're underestimating how much this is the year for them. It is hard. Once expectations start, players want more money. You get your point. I think it's a little hot. They have a hot goaltender. I don't think the expectations thing in hockey is quite the same because those players really are in a bubble comparatively to like a grade. You know what I mean? It is a different buy. Everything hits it. You know, I think a good way to say we're under the chance that they should I don't think this is the year in that I get what you're saying and I get the comp you're making with the Phillies and stuff. The Phillies best shot. But I think it's a little different in hockey. I think these guys are still young and I don't know that this I get your point. I think we are underestimating the chance that this could be. That's what I'm saying. Like the Phillies, when they were underestimating the chance, they could go on a real run. When they went in twenty two, it was well, they'll be back, right? Like, okay, they didn't make it, but they'll be back. And again, it hammers home. I'm impressed with what the Eagles did was to go back and win in twenty four. But I do think the Flyers like we're under. I think we're we're underestimating the chance. Don't just be like, oh, you know, we got in. They might never have a good. No, you never have this type of chance again. It's no guarantee they make it next year. There's no guarantee. Yeah, I mean, they think they will have a chance again. But I get your point. I get your point. I don't know. It's bad. All right. We'll be back tomorrow. We'll start looking ahead to the draft one week away. We're finally going to dive in this and draft them. It's going to be great until that. He's on.
