Let's bring in Matthew Griffin. He is our Bloomberg Equities reporter, checking out a couple of the big movers. What do you have, Matt? Well, Scarlett, thank you for having me. I've been looking first today at Abbott Laboratories, excuse me, that stock, ticker ABT, having its best day in 24 years, up as much as 14% after the MedTech company beat expectations in the most recent quarter. They raised guidance for the full year They now see their profit at to excluding some items so up at the midpoint One thing that analysts are focusing on is strength across a lot of the business lines here So that includes medical devices that includes diabetes care And there were also some positive comments from Abbott CEO Robert Ford. This stock had fallen earlier this week after HCA Healthcare, their hospital operator, cut an outlook, pointed to expiring Obamacare subsidies. But Ford said Abbott's relatively insulated there. they get a lot of their surgical procedures covered under Medicare. So a lot for investors to be optimistic about for a stock that had fallen nearly 30% this year. All right. How about a company I took public back in the day, J.B. Hunt? Yes, Paul, J.B. Hunt having a good day. They're up 5.4%. The transportation company beat expectations. Also in the most recent quarter, their profit was $1.91 per share. Analysts looking for $1.74. This is the latest sign that improvement in the U.S. trucking market is flowing through into revenue, into profit for the biggest companies in the sector. Trucking rates had been rising, but we were really waiting for this earnings season to confirm that it would benefit the companies. So far, so good. They also said their intermodal business was strong. That's where you use two or more forms of transport. Because trucking is more expensive because fuel costs are high that making rail road transport attractive for customers Now Morgan Stanley does say a lot priced in here now so upside could be hard to find But for investors in that stock now ticker JBHT today is a good day I rewind about 35 years. I'm at the port of Los Angeles. We've got 10 other investment bankers for the various firms taking JB on public. At the end of the day, it was due diligence to say, who wants to take a truck trip overnight from Los Angeles to Salt Lake? Of the 10 or 15 bankers, only one hand was raised yours mine so we hopped in the truck and drove overnight it was awesome got to salt lake and hopped on a plane went back that sounds like the beginning of a movie yeah it was fun you know it was jake was the truck driver it was awesome i would have got on that trip jbht there you go uh one more i've also been looking at gh research this is a psychedelic drug maker ticker ghrs they're one of the companies getting a boost from eli lillies as much as $3.8 billion deal to acquire a Ty Beckley. Investors are taking that as a sign that large drug makers are interested in psychedelic therapies, and they're one of the main beneficiaries. The Stock Movers Report from Bloomberg Radio.
