The Ringer NFL Draft Show hosts recap the 2026 NFL Draft, analyzing winners (Raiders, Browns, Giants) and losers (Steelers, 49ers, Seahawks), discussing draft strategy, value propositions, and notable picks across all seven rounds.
Insights
- Teams that ignore consensus draft boards consistently underperform long-term; contrarian picks work only when grounded in probability, not ego
- Injury disclosure timing significantly impacts draft value; players with recently-diagnosed conditions (spine cysts, foot fractures) fall dramatically despite talent
- Positional scarcity is shifting: tight ends commanded premium draft capital due to NFL trend toward multi-TE sets, while running backs hit historic lows in early-round selection
- Information leaks and poor communication protocols can directly cost teams draft picks; the Steelers' leaked selection enabled the Eagles to trade up and secure their target
- Quarterback development requires sitting time behind elite mentors; teams investing in long-term QB development (Chiefs, Rams) outvalue those forcing immediate play
Trends
Consolidation of college football talent to elite programs reducing draft pool diversity to lowest since 1938Multi-tight-end offensive sets becoming standard NFL strategy, driving earlier-round TE investment than historical normsTransfer portal enabling talent concentration at blue-chip schools, eliminating mid-tier college programs from draft pipelineInjury disclosure timing becoming critical draft variable; recent diagnoses create artificial value gaps exploitable by informed teamsConsensus board divergence correlating with long-term draft failure; teams with highest contrarian conviction rates underperformRunning back devaluation accelerating; only 11 RBs selected in first round (historic low), signaling positional shift in NFL strategyQuarterback evaluation increasingly dependent on intangible factors (coachability, maturity, leadership) beyond measurablesDraft information security becoming competitive advantage; communication protocols directly impacting pick acquisition

the ringer NFL draft show or one week for now could be the ringer fantasy football show. My name is Danny Heifetz and I'm joined in studio in Los Angeles by Danny Kelly and Craig Orlbeck. The NFL draft is over. DK just contain your excitement. You're so crushed that the draft is over. Yeah, yeah. I forgot. I forgot whiskey. I know. Oh yeah. You knew? Oh shit. We got to do shots or something in this show. Danny Kelly has been writing. Should have texted me this morning. Danny Kelly graded every single team's draft at NFLDraft.3o.com and he would love if you hate the draft grade he gave your team. You should go and add him. It's his favorite thing is when. Oh Cardinals got to see. Fuck this let him know directly. Here's the deal. You have to be following me for me to see anything you write to me on Instagram or Twitter. So there you go. It's all it's all a scheme guys. We are going to have I'm going to be up your ass then in the DMs about the Steelers getting a B plus. You can go like genuinely with mad at me this morning. B plus are you fucking kidding me. We crushed was because of the Mackay lemon thing. I would argue that was a good thing but it's actually good. We didn't get the player we wanted. That's great. We're going to have a few episodes this week. We're going to keep having episodes all summer. So if you've enjoyed the draft process stick with us and obviously we are going to get to the NFL season of fantasy football as we get closer to next year. So we're never too early. That's not true. Sometimes it is too early. OK we're going to go through we're just going to give some winners some losers some awards for this draft and I would like to humbly submit that the winner of this year's NFL draft is just hope. OK it is hope. I think the most every year isn't it. It is but particularly this year I think the most hopeless teams actually have a tremendous amount of hope. The Raiders the Browns the Jets and dare I say also the Giants like the New York football teams Cleveland Raiders the worst teams the downtrodden the downsize. Yeah I would say the the hope and just like who crossed the draft and who actually has the most momentum going into 2027. Hife it's it's your team man. You think it's the Giants. Yeah absolutely. I mean they are this year's Patriots. They are going to be this year's Patriots and everyone's mind. You don't believe that. I do but what bothers me about that you're this year's Patriots you know the team that came in last place and then went to the Super Bowl. That doesn't happen every year. Well I don't think they mean that that's going to be the outcome. It's the team that's going to overperform the team that is like everything is rounding into place. It's also like the similarities like the second year quarterback the new first year coach that everybody respects. You guys did a great job in the draft like things are coming together. I think I'm realizing I don't know how to take a compliment about the Giants anymore. I'm just like what are you what are you saying. I'm like oh they're good. Oh that's scary. The division is kind of all over the place. I think the Cowboys the Cowboys could be good. The Eagles are who knows what's going to happen with that team. I think I'm going to bet the Eagles to get last in the last few years. Sorry you mean you're going to bet the Eagles to get last in the NSC's because Mackay Lemon. Cowboys kind of like what they did. Commanders if James if James healthy. So I'm like the Giants I like. But when we're talking about the teams the worst teams in the league being good in two years which is it hope or is it cope. Like do you think the Giants it's actually I'm not just cuz it's actually hope. The Giants is definitely real. I would say the other to dovetail off the hoping. My one of my winners underneath hope is like the really bad teams that maybe didn't even solve their quarterback situation this year that are planning to solve it next year. I think did a really good job of long term planning. I could trust the process. Yes. Good job trust the process. Yeah building the foundation. I think Cleveland I think the Jets I could argue Miami a little bit. The only one I quibble with Cardinals I don't know. Jeremiah I love it three. To me that's just. And they took Carson back. I don't know about that. But I think Cleveland did a great job. They traded back the accumulated picks. I like their first round a lot. They took two wide receivers that we that we like. Like they are actually building an infrastructure where if you bring in a guy next year if they can get Dante Moore Archmanty or whatever they could be in a great spot. Same with the Jets man like they're going to be rolling with Gino this year. I quibble a little bit with like did they need to take Sadiq and a wide receiver in the first Sadiq and Omar Cooper in the first round. But heading into 2027 what the Jets have built with their offensive line with the skill players. It's kind of nice. Yeah. And even Miami Carlos's dolphins like they have a lot to do. There are their their roster is pretty depleted. But I feel like they did a great job in the day two and day three rounds of this draft. And also we're all talking about how they don't have a wide receiver. I'm like maybe they're just waiting for fucking Jeremiah Smith and they're going to have the third pick next year and they didn't get enough. They didn't reach to get Carnal Tate and now they're going to have the second or third pick next year. They're just going to take Jeremiah Smith kind of saying also because there's probably going to be an early run on Corvax if they if Malik Willis looks great. Yeah. There they go. Overall though DK who do you think is the action who won the draft. Like if you're like if there's a single team that came out the best of everybody. So we were talking about this yesterday. I think there's a difference between class grades and who won. To me I think the Raiders won the draft. They got a new franchise quarterback who I have. I feel is going to be good there. I think they're and they're setting him up well for success because they brought in Kirk Cousins. I don't think they're going to force him to go in right away. It'll be like a more natural succession plan. So that's great. And I think I just pretty much loved every pick that they made during the draft. I just they are scooping out value. They are getting some of the players that I really like. They went up and traded for Jermad McCoy in their start of the fourth round. That is like you could talk about oh maybe he'll only play a couple of years because of the knee issue or whatever. But I'm like in the fourth round. Oh my God. Who cares. That is so true because look we don't know exactly what happened with Jermad McCoy's knee. I'm not a doctor blah blah blah blah who cares. He has a knee issue but he also obviously he ran a 4 3 8 40 R dash. So the knee is a huge problem right now. So we can put two and two together and say it's obviously probably more of a longer term thing with the knee. Maybe it's a second contract issue. OK. Well you know who else is second contract issues. Every 25 year old player in this draft including multiple went in the first round. You're not even planning on playing Mendoza year one. So it's like the McCoy thing. Cool. Let's see what it's like in 20 27. We can take the whole year off if you fucking want to. We are we are playing the long game here. And again if McCoy had a completely clean bill of health he probably is a top 15 player in the entire draft and the Raiders got him. But yeah I mean even just I mean the Raiders I mean the Raiders got Mike Washington Jr. running back at Arkansas which all right it's a back of running back but like man that's a hell of a good backup running back with Gentie. Like it is a good infrastructure that they have. We compared to like where he mosted it right. Yeah. Yeah. I think he would and I do think he fits really well with his Kubiak offense. I mean they're going to have an incredible thunder and lightning and both of them are kind of lightning. They're both very fast. He went Gentie but yeah their run game is going to be again like they went and got trade on Stoogs who I think is a safety at Arizona. Yeah. Safety out of Arizona. He's a little bit older. He's like 25 years old but he is kind of one of those guys that could end up being a culture changer. He went from walk on to captain in college really good ball production. He's really instinctive in coverage. He is not afraid to stick his face in the fan is like the expression I always love as a defender where he just he loves coming down and hitting and you know I just think he's a really good player. He probably should be afraid to stick your face in a fan. Did you come up with that or is that a common phrase? That's like a rolling ball but your nice type thing. Sure. Sure. Yeah. Did you guys see that Mendoza is already the Vegas is getting to him. He gave some like a little speech on a stage. He dropped a let's fucking go. Oh interesting. Just saying. Do you think Brady said the two of them are calling? Give this guy six months. He's going to be a strip club before him. Do you think Kirk Cousins is actually getting paid to be a chaperone? A little bit. That is who they want him to become. What is it in Bridgerton? He's being paid to be a good influence. You know in Bridgerton like the women who aren't married yet. Kirk was in Minnesota for a while. For him it's going to be in Vegas. They're going to be supervised at all times you know. It's like you know it's in Bridgerton. It's like you can't be unsupervised alone like that's crazy. He's just going to be living in a hotel like a penthouse. Yeah the wind is going to give him a fucking penthouse sleep as long as he wants. There's like a tiger in there. There's a tiger in there. I love the Raiders draft and I'm not doing that just to pander to Austin. I thought they did a really good job. Everything that you look at and again I know that we kind of said this last year with Pete Carroll but this to me feels more real and the way that they're building the foundation like I said. It feels long term. Last year when we said the Raiders won the offseason we were young. We were ignorant. But since then this offseason the Raiders won the offseason for real. Last year's offseason victory that didn't mean anything. This year's is awesome. It was like Pete Carroll, Chip Kelly, Geno Smith all these old guys that we got swept up. In retrospect it's kind of fucked up. It was a bunch of guys that were really innovative 12 years earlier. That wasn't great. Yeah but anyway. But John Harbour the Giants that's great. I just think all of the bad teams last year did a good job in the offseason this year. Yeah hope is perclet. Do we want to go over what the Browns did? I love the Browns draft. Yeah. If they were any other team we'd be like wow this is a great team. To me it's like when you're doing draft grades or evaluating what happened let's try and take the name of the team away and just look at what they did. They traded back in the first round, got a couple extra picks and still got the top tackle on the board. They came into this draft knowing they needed to get a tackle. Spencer Fano and he might end up playing left tackle for them. He might play on the right side but that's obviously a really good trade for them. Then they came back and got two receivers that we really like. Casey Concepcion, Denzel Boston. Denzel Boston fell into the second round. We were thinking he would be his first rounder very likely and that was great value for them. Just going through all the way through their draft. I thought they would be. They got Emmanuel McNeil Warren, the safety editor Toledo. He was a huge. Yeah huge value there. So yeah they just. They've got him Justin Jefferson. He's great. They literally drafted a guy named Justin Jefferson. There we go. Don't look at his position at college but Justin Jefferson. They got Justin Jefferson. If they get Dante Morrison next year coming in. The offensive line still needs work but in theory if these picks work out you got your tackle. You have two first round level talent wide receivers and you have Quinchon Judkins and Dillon Samson and Harold Fan and a tight end. It's not bad. It's so funny to think about the love is blind version of the Browns. If I just. You strip away everything you know about the Browns. You're like what if I told you that they have a probable quarterback. One of the best skill groups in the NFL. They're two. Their defensive end just had more sacks. Highest pick quarterback in the league. In the league. Guaranteed full contract. And a pro bowler. And then they have literally not only defensive rookie of the year. Their pass rusher just set the record for sacks and it's easy. You have Dillon Sanders kid on the team. He's really fast right. Cherry Judy number one pick. That's their third receiver. Hi Fitz. Did you see that they drafted Taylor Green to your guy. I fucking love Taylor Green. Sixth round. Is that the is that the Taysom Hill guy. No that's Colby. The Eagles got one. Yeah. Okay. Well yeah. One guess who drafted him. I blew it. Taylor Green's like the most athletic quarterback ever but post Anthony Richardson means you go in the fifth round. Right. But great. I mean great developmental pick there in the end of the draft. Yeah. As Austin said we were talking about it yesterday and Austin just threw cold like it on a cold cold water on it. And he was just like. Cold water. Yeah. Cold blanket. I've never seen a wet blanket. You've never seen a wet blanket. This guy's bragging he's never pissed himself. Is that what is. Is that the implication. No I don't think so. I actually can call. I don't. Why are blankets ever blanket. Why would blankets be wet blankets don't keep you warm. Yeah. I think that's probably true. Don't be a wet blanket. Yeah. Maybe the book maybe you're out in the rain. I don't know. Yeah. And he was like to the Cleveland Browns and their head coach missed the coach's photo for haircut. So it's like they're probably going to suck. All right. Fuck. Fuck. Fucking Todd Monk. They're gonna hire a new guy next off season. We fine. And the defensive coordinator who had the this Browns defense competitive then wanted the job and they were like fuck you. And he's like I'll leave which is incredible. The other one is yeah New York football I do think was a winner too. The Giants we've talked about at length. We got a hand to him. For all that we joked about the Jets off season vibes. We disagreed. I do think yeah post draft like I don't even love Sadiq in the first round all these things but they do have good players like Sadiq could be good Omar. I love Omar Cooper. I mean the quibble with the jet incredible birds nest the way that I would explain the jet what happened with the Jets is I like all the players that they took especially early on because they took David Bailey number two they took Kenyon Sadiq number 16 Omar Cooper number 30 he's a receiver out of Indiana and then they also took one of my favorite players. It's not my favorite player in the draft D'Angelo Ponds yeah cornerback in the second round and but I think the quibble I would have is if you look at where they pick those guys I'm like I really like these players that they got but they could have got these other players I maybe like a little bit more but that being said like I think this is a good foundation for the team. I mean and keep in mind the Jets have three first round picks in 2027. They had they took three guys in the first round this year they can take three more next year. Aaron Glenn I don't know if he'll be the coach next year and there's a chance that the Jets are going to be able to take whoever the best quarterback is things can change. No one thought it would be Mendoza this year but I have the ammo to like a Dante Moore an Archmage I don't know the Carolina Oklahoma State or whatever and has and still have two more first round picks and maybe a new head coach. I think all the quarterbacks next year are going to suck and it's going to be really funny. I think they're going to be bad. I feel like that always happens. It's just like everyone's just names people but if you actually look at any of those names. Like Archmage was kind of bad. Archmage was bad. Dante Moore pissed himself in the college football playoff. The biggest say what you want. Dante Moore the biggest game of his life was the worst game he's ever played. Yeah like ever. I mean he literally didn't go to the draft because of that. D'Angelo Pons who the Jets took in the second round. Yeah it was the money. Well you could have gotten a lot of money. I gotta tell you. Oregon seems like a top five pick. Would you rather be the quarterback for Oregon. The Jets probably would have fucking taken them and spoiled or they're going to take them again next year. Yeah but now have more experience and they'll have a better roster. True true. I agree. It's probably their smart move by them. Wouldn't you rather get five million dollars to play an Oregon instead of ten million to play for the Jets. And especially like based on what the Jets just did like yeah I'd rather weigh to your. I think there I think there'll be a couple good corebacks. The nice part is we have the strength in numbers. There's like eight guys that could be first. And only two or three of them. Maybe two or three of them will turn out. What's the kid from Oklahoma State's name. I always forget. Oklahoma's John Matier who I love. Oh Oklahoma. Sellers. No no isn't there an Oklahoma State kid that's good. Yeah now I'm forgetting. Oh yeah. Drew Mestermaker. Right. Some people think he's gonna be. Well no there's another there's the other big gamer forgetting now I'm forgetting his fucking name. Notre Dame kid. Mm hmm. I also refuse to believe in Julian Sayon. I don't care anything that happens. I just kind of like print me out. Strong strong strong takes loosely held. We're doing our way too early mock. Yeah. CJ Carr. Yeah. He's I could see that. Sure. I could see that. Yeah. Yeah. I could see that. Yeah. Yeah. The other winner. Should we do our way too early mock right now. I mean we could just go yeah you can see that. Yeah. The other winner we were walking in here and I was like is Ohio State a winner like the entire defense that won a championship two years ago. Everyone got drafted. I don't give a fuck. Who cares. I don't care about your college. Like the whole like oh my god so many players got drafted from this college. I don't fucking care. Also like it's Ohio State. Like why why do I care about it. It would be interesting. Why do I want to tell you to have five guys go. But I'm like OK it's always Ohio State Georgia. A lot of Alabama players got drafted. I don't why I fucking care. The team that spent 40 million dollars on the roster at NFL players good. Yeah. I actually so agree. I don't care about your college. Nine guys from the Georgia defense which I'm like OK. Isn't that how it's supposed to be. Cool. They have the best players. Say Austin sent this stat over to us that the draft now featured the fewest number of schools. Yeah. So basically the fewest number of schools of all the players drafted this year. So basically the whatever the pool of 75 different teams. Yeah. College teams had picks in the NFL. The pool of colleges that are producing NFL players is the smallest ever. And that's because of the transfer portal. People if they're good enough to go into the NFL they're transferring to big schools consolidating to the best schools that pay them the most money. Yeah. And well college football became an official business and all industries are consolidating like every industry in the world's consolidation. College football is just a business now. It's actually not the lowest every decade. It's only 75 teams college teams had picks in the NFL draft. The lowest number since 1938. We probably just didn't have enough calls. I was going to say we probably just didn't even live on the West Coast back. Yeah. We were like 40. How many states did we have in 1938. OK. The other winner I think just tight ends are a winner man. I think a lot of guys made money this weekend because they're tight ends. And there's a huge supply. It was one of the deeper spots in the draft arguably. And you would think if there's more tight ends in the draft teams would wait but the opposite happened. And teams actually went really hard to get the tight ends in the second and third round. And I think it's just the two and three tight end sets are to stay like that was the big theme of last year was teams being like screw it. We're bringing running back not running backs but like running is back. And I also had a good stat like basically since pro football focused on a track in this 2006 it was the highest usage of multiple tight end sets on record. Literally teams have not had multiple tight ends on the field in the last 20 years more than last season. And it's probably going to go up again because we just saw like 20 tight ends were drafted basically. And so I don't know about the individual players but teams clearly like they just need everyone looked around was like we need more. I mean the Rams. I know the second round pick for the second year out of the last two years like the Rams use the second round pick on a tight end. They already had five tight ends on the roster and they took a sixth with their second pick. I mean the Jets already had a tight end that we thought was pretty solid and took another one. Yeah. In the first round. Yeah. So tight ends are winners but speaking of the Rams though I have to say loser if we're talking about losers of draft weekend I do think Sean McVeigh. Yeah. Rare L for McVeigh. It's just an own goal. He's on TV in the fifth round day three doing an interview to clear up misconceptions about this fucking mess. When you have to do this follow up apology oppressor. What are you doing? Yeah. So he sat down and was like hey everybody do I look angry now? And he had just like a whole thing where he was like literally explaining his behavior saying and he basically said I didn't want Stafford to be mad. Right. So I tried to kind of undersell us taking Ty Simpson to showcase our faith that we still have in Matt Stafford. So I was just like kind of taking it easy and I guess I overdid it and I looked pissed but I wasn't. We love Ty Simpson but also we love Matt Stafford. Right. Right. Just like a true crisis PR move. You know what you could have done is not taking Ty Simpson. You could have avoided this. Well here's what's funny about the Ty Simpson. Well first of all I completely agree with what you're saying Craig where he's trying to explain it but I'm just watching him like the fact that I'm watching you do this for eight minutes right now during the fifth round is so odd. You just know there was like a thousand meetings in between those two pressers. I think the crisis PR. It is tough week for crisis PR in general. I think the. Can we linger on Ty Simpson for a moment. I would like to. I also I want to ask you to say about Ty Simpson. I a lot of things the pick was weird the way McVay handled it was weird. People don't really like Ty Simpson as a prospect. He's not like he's above average but not a special player. He doesn't he's not that big. He doesn't have that much experience with all that said this is probably going to work and he the most likely outcome feels like Ty Simpson is the Rams quarterback for 10 years is it not in the world where we believe McVay right that he probably did want Ty Simpson and he just handled it really weirdly because Occam's razor the simplest answer is probably that McVay wanted Ty Simpson was a weirdo explaining it to Stafford then the Rams took a quarterback without McVay's blessing like that does seem more normal. I agree if this is the guy McVay wanted for all the bullshit like wouldn't you rather don't you think it's more likely Ty Simpson's good for the Rams and above average quarterback than he just flanks out. I think I said this month I should go dig it up. It's on some podcast and freaking March or something but I was like basically the one avenue that I can see working for Ty Simpson is if he lands with the Rams and so like that's not to say he's a bad player but I just think based on the history of college quarterbacks coming into the NFL with 15 starts even 25 starts absolutely just minefield you got and it's obvious why you get into the NFL guess what it's really fucking hard to play quarterback it helps to have some practice at it and so I just think odds are especially with what Hyphid said a little bit smaller guy not elite tools to me it's like I don't understand exactly why they decided to make this gamble on him at this point in time when you have the MVP the reigning MVP you're in your Super Bowl window you could go get a guy that can help you in October and November and December whatever but that all that being said like this is the best situation for him probably in the NFL yeah I mean because the one case you could make we talked about the quarterbacks with less than 15 20 25 starts and it's not a great list most of those guys played immediately right like Richardson a lot of them did yeah for the most part yes Mr Biskie played almost immediately right maybe and we're talking about the first two Biskie playedings for a season yes so you have to factor in that this guy will be sitting behind Matt Stafford for a year at least in with Sean McVeigh and Matt Stafford like arguably if you could select any two quarterbacks to learn behind it that are on the same team it's probably that combination so that probably helps and the hit rate on quarterbacks that were drafted high and sat is probably like double I mean the quarterbacks who sat for and like did not end up really being good I mean just quarterbacks that just sat in general Brady which even as he doesn't really count six year honor yeah but like Patrick Mahomes sat for year Jordan loves that for three years I would I guess one of the only guys that really they did it and didn't work I guess Paxton Lynch would count kind of sitting maybe but even that was 2016 he kind of just sucked but um I don't know it's funny because in one inch Sean McVeigh's never developed a quarterback he's always kind of had guys out of the box like he got Jared Goff inherited a first round pick made him great he was a first overall pick and then he made him great but like he's never really developed it and then he but he was like he kicked he made a superbook Jared Goff and then kicked him to the curb like 18 months later and I wonder how is Tysimpsons gonna give him the ick in a meeting one day and then he's like this not the guy well it's also funny because Tysimpsons style plays not like Stafford at all right like it he's so much more of like a Brock Purdy like in within the system yeah and I feel like that's why he got rid of Jared Goff is he wanted somebody more dynamic well it's kind of like doesn't really bring that to the table Stafford it's kind of like because again I think what McVeigh wanted was he wanted a partner right with Stafford and Goff it was more like a pupil and he wanted a partner somebody could work with and now you're going and also Stafford can when McVeigh's plan doesn't work Stafford can no look a pass in the Super Bowl with the game on the line and no look to Cooper Cupp and he's like yeah that play didn't work so I just moved the safety and threw a no look pass over the middle 30 yards on a bullet you're like thanks that's really helpful and then you're you're gonna go back to the guy you can't do that and to your point I it's I feel like it's like lifestyle creep like where it's like imagine when you're 40 you go back to living in the apartment you had when you were like 21 and you're like at the time it was fine but now it's like I actually that bathroom is not big enough and like that wouldn't work and I feel like that's kind of what he's doing turns out I don't want roommates yeah exactly my own house it is going to be like that and it's like you're going to go back like I get that you made Kirk Cousins work when you were with Washington but now you've had Stafford how do you why if you're going to have anyone sit for three years by in Stafford why wouldn't you pick a Jordan Love a toolsy guy that if he learns to play quarterback can do everything it's almost weird to have an IQ guy sit who doesn't have experience it's like you would think you want someone that could he and also this was someone brought this up when I thought it was really interesting it's like basically Simpson sat for three years at Alabama he was a five star prospect so obviously he has the pedigree but but sat for three years played one year professional sitter going to sit for a year or two maybe couldn't beat out gonna have one season in like five years where he's actually on the field hi simpson there's no world you can convince me that's good like I'm sorry you have to be on the field playing to get better at it don't forget that Tyson's and lost a quarterback battle to Jaylin Milrow two seasons ago like he could not be Jaylin Milrow in a quarterback competition at Alabama baby let's go yeah you're feeling good about that no okay like literally the only time we got on the field last year he fucked up huge huge funny I think if you started listening to our show from like the second week of February on I don't think you'd have any idea the Seahawks win the Super Bowl if you heard everything he said he hasn't said one good thing about the Seahawks since mid-feb that's false do you think I mean what what vibes did you get in like 10th Tyson simpson the Seahawks yeah something like that um what Tyson's in like has anyone's dynasty draft stock fluctuated more rapidly over the course of 24 hours like when he first got drafted and it was like oh no McVay and less need they like Tyson's and oh my god should be like a top six pick a dynasty and then it was like they're not on the same page McVay hates this guy and he's fucking pissed and it's like oh my god this guy has no shot in the NFL it's like the poly market yeah like now it's like man if if this guy's gonna learn behind Stafford and McVay loves him it's like top five top eight should he be like the fifth pick in dynasty drafts yeah it's interesting speaking of losers to the draft I still think Mike Vrable probably also loser of the draft weekend why uh well because his team is ignoring him on on dude three of the draft Shrager they were like the Patriots were still texting him and then somebody's like actually they weren't okay they weren't they haven't talked just to clear that up just to clear that up that we are not we were gonna be in contact communication and then we decided you know it's so funny it's just like a work PTO thing we're like should we ping this person is like no they take the day off don't bother can you imagine he's got the away he said on slack or whatever it's like I just like the little palm tree can you imagine like whatever's going on in his personal life like whatever he said he was doing on day three counseling whatever he was doing and him still getting text oh my god he's like are you fucking texting right now and he's like put that phone down dude why are you in the bathroom it's like we like date like round six cornerbacks and they're like he's fucking kidding me literally Ari gold right on torange doing the therapy and it's like who schedules shit at 11 am on a Wednesday do you want to live in whatever Beverly Hills yes then I'm gonna have fucking calls on a mother fucking Wednesday I just watched that clip the other day I don't know it came up I think it was probably a very variable but I uh there's a lot of good like Tony Soprano in therapy memes now going around a fray ball it's good I it's good yeah I think funny memes I think he was a loser the weekend um yeah that's pretty clear any other losers Craig um based on what we learned about Jennings dunkers diet Steelers four bathroom stalls everybody get lit up they're gonna have to fucking fix all the all the pipe they need to build him a private porcelain throne right please remind us DK so again when the draft uh report cards came not draft sorry the nflp report cards came out the combine they leaked actually yeah they didn't come out much among the leakers toilets they we learned that the Steelers locker room somehow has five stalls even though like there's like including the practice squad like 95 players 90 people on offseason roster 100 and they all eat at the same time every day and they're eating like sandwiches with french fries on them you know what I mean like it's it's heavy and so he's eating three heavy out there three chicken breast for breakfast they're not drinking airwan smoothies in Pittsburgh no I we need industrial we somehow forgot to bring that up dude Jennings dunker yeah with his giant what did you say three servings of pasta two rolls and a 12 ounce steak and then three hours later has three hamburgers and a hot chocolate then goes to bed wakes up three chicken breasts and two pancakes what was the what was the restaurant that you talked about where you went to after culvers culvers I don't I was not familiar with your game but apparently and this is based on we should have gone to call Carlos Carlos made a little breakout and they have a something called a cement mixer oh it's like a shake that sounds fucking awesome to me is like god he's got to get one where's the nearest culvers that's a midwest chain there's no california but not in that it's like it's culvers is kind of like in and out but for the midwest it's like their thing that they love but it's not actually what is like what is in a cement mixer I is it like peanut butter cement mixer is the wildest name for sorry no it's not cement it's there's actually butter burgers concrete mixer butter burgers culvers in Nevada dude it's pretty close oh wow okay what's it let's should we get a butter burger four hour drive right now to culvers in Vegas I mean in Nevada is it in Vegas no it's south of it this is basically like a blizzard it they're concrete mixers are fresh frozen vanilla or chocolate custard blended with mixins like candies fruits and nuts they're thick enough to be served upside down have you ever been to Dairy Queen where when you get a blizzard they like show you that it's like don't you love Dairy Queen it's like showing it it's like showing the haircut they're like are you good with this they're like is this like the wine bottle comes by like is this acceptable dude I gained like 30 pounds going to Dairy Queen during the during the pandemic I was like stress eating like you know what I need right now blizzard drive through at Dairy Queen I don't I've never known some fast food places they'll like some have milkshakes but then some have custard and I don't know what the difference is what I was just about to ask you guys what is it is oh I think it sounds gross oh really yeah custard I think shake shack has custard but I'm like what is it ice cream or what custard like is it is it thicker is it like more fast is it just like what is it well it's like a french vanilla ice cream versus vanilla it's just like egg yolk oh yeah so maybe it's like that it's just like a higher fat content are you gonna google it I kind of want to do I kind of just wanted more cream what is the best one includes at least 1.4 egg yolks and is churned with less air creating a denser creamer and warmer served treat than a warmer kind of nailed not into that interesting I like the denser part it doesn't matter if it's warm it's so dense it can't melt this episode is brought to you by Amazon life's full of little surprises like spilling coffee everywhere five minutes before a meeting we're reaching for a diaper and realizing the bag is empty kind of like draft night you think you know the plan then everything changes look life can be unpredictable but everyday shopping doesn't have to be with great savings on essentials amazon helps you cover the basics and the surprises because when life throws a curveball it's nice knowing there's a place you can count on amazon save on essentials save the everyday other losers I have to say all right the loser is definitely whatever stealers staffer accidentally leaked their pick and then the eagles traded up and got mckeylemon we don't know exactly what happened but like you could put two and two together like Mike McCarthy's the coach of the stealers they're on the clock at 21 the cowboys or sorry they're on the clock at 21 and this cowboys are on the clock at 20 Mike McCarthy has a lot of people on the stealers staff that were also in Dallas they know each other someone on the stealers clock is tech tech some assistant low-level guys texting a stealers low-level guy and they're like who are you taking the guys like whatever it's going to happen in one minute and they just tell them we're taking mckeylemon and then the cowboys call philadelphia and is like hey like come get the pick they're going to snipe you and the cowboys get the picks the eagles get mckeylemon and you could say whatever you want i know the stealers are pretending like oh it's fine the stealers literally had the most picks in i think the history of the team for them to take oh that's really embarrassing what is it i got an e-s vietal alert that is jacky said that happened to her got a wedding walkthrough she was like that's the most embarrassing man noise the the e-s band sorry babe i'm up in my dynasty draft it's round four hold on hold sorry uh the yankees try to keep win streak alive against the astros it's just not even a fucking news it's just some article yankees astros just started okay it's a good rivalry sure i get yeah no i get alerts when the yankees game starts maybe turn that off well well like i was saying it's really embarrassing when you're doing your phone stuff and so you know what they shouldn't it is embarrassing that mckeylemon's on his phone like that and then like they have to hang up on you and then actually we're not taking you that's very embarrassing i don't think that's embarrassing at all i think it's more embarrassing that i got caught on camera but i'm sure stuff like that happens all the time and then everyone's like i don't think it happens all the time yeah it does i've heard about this a million times i mean how can it not when you're on the phone with somebody and there's a trade-up like i feel like that would happen all the time yeah it's not the whole idea of what trading up is why would it be embarrassing for the stealers that makes no sense i kind of agree like it being caught on camera i guess is like you don't see that often i haven't like looking into the fucking thing into the abyss it you don't see it's embarrassing that the stealers when they're hosting the draft and they're like they're like hey like we're taking you and then he's like sorry i gotta go and then like they don't get the guy and they everyone now knows that the player they picked is not the guy they wanted okay but that's what i quibble with they have a list of players they want yeah when mckeylemon goes the next guy in their list was max ayanichur so then they took him everyone's like oh wow the stealers scrambled me had no idea who to pick and the clock ran out and they auto picked this offensive lineman from arizona state i'm like what the fuck are you talking about they have a list of guys they want if one goes away they take the next guy if he gives up like two sacks in week one and mckeylemon scores like two touchdowns no one's gonna be like oh wow they really fucked that up they leaked the pick like that's the point like they fucked it up someone gave the pick away it seems to be the case like that i don't know i i guess maybe i'm wrong i just think it's funny i think ultimately it's funny but it's not embarrassing it's not embarrassing that the incompetence they someone on the staff leaked the pick to the team ahead of them and then they immediately got fucked by it that's kind of that's like that's amateur yeah look it's like i think the fact that it was caught on camera is is more embarrassing than like the act of a team trading up to take a player that you were gonna but if it's not just that and it's also like no someone in the room texted the pick and then they fucking got screwed because they they actually own gold lost maybe all right maybe i don't care i think ultimately no one cares i would rather have this tackle and germy bernard than mckeylemon and whatever tackle they would take in the mid-second i don't know what do you say about that yeah i like it i got hung up on i think it's embarrassing well it's fine all right pittsburgh winner i would you think the city of pittsburgh won even though they just got embarrassed on national television both the fans didn't get hung up on just the gm but the whole city is embarrassed for their own team with their winners well people of the draft they don't know what's going on they don't know what happened they'd find out on tv yeah 800 000 people attended this draft think about that rod stewart what's up we didn't even sing we got 800 000 show up what do you got rod yeah what was your favorite person that did an introduction to one of the one of the picks we were we were just during the draft everyone who decided to go up there and find that question with an answer someone every time like every third person would be like hello pittsburgh i would like to take this opportunity to thank my daughters i think it was brett ripen or whatever my granddaughter sarah and elinor granddad will be home soon okay go to sleep now okay we need the oscar's music not brett who is his dad ripen mark ripen mark yeah yeah we need the oscar's do i have a favorite presenter no yeah yeah you do it's everybody who walked up and just read the name and then left all those guys all the guys that were tied for first all the people that went up with the third pick did not say even high just went into the with the 38th pick of the seventh round i agree everyone who just yeah you don't know who they are because they didn't say their fucking game there was one one woman i don't know who it was that you couldn't hear anything she was saying she's like there's some people been talking to the mic with the 17th pick of this six round i the dallas calvite slide it's like god lady i can't hear you any other winners or losers i don't know remind me are there i mean the running backs it was bad enough class and it just i mean wait only so only first of all overall is a position fantasy anyone who's fancy football only 11 running backs were taken after round one which is the lowest for any draft since 1970 and then only one running back was taken in rounds two and three which is also the lowest for any draft since 1970 so overall and also the top two running backs were from the same school which has never happened before i married auburn had a couple drafts were actually they were two got like ronnie brown and catwalk williams went to the same draft in top five but the first two running backs were from the sit like they were like jeremy i love awesome next best guy his backup and then they waited their one guy went the next like 100 picks it's not great so yeah like obviously i like jeremy i love lining spot you can say what you want about it's probably not the best team he could have landed with he's gonna i'm sure he'll get enough volume but again like we mentioned earlier he's now on a team with tyler l jeer who got carries ahead of bijon robinson in the red zone like who knows what's gonna happen we're staring at an ashton jente type year now right um speaking of ashton jente mike washington who was one of a lot of fantasy people a lot of dynasty people's favorite running back super explosive four three best speed score for any running back of all time in terms of that's weight divided by speed i don't know what the exact calculation is it's just your 40 time adjusted for how much you weigh so it's like Xavier worthy running a four two at 160 pounds is not actually as impressive as brian thomas running a four three at 210 yeah and so he landed on a freaking team that had a the sixth overall pick last year cool at running back like ashton jente always ashton jente's backup great dead dead to fantasy for the most part the other guy that i think a lot of people liked including me was jonah colman he landed on shon patin's team we don't have to go into it never going to be new listeners how do you feel about shon patin i mean look i think it's actually objectively a pretty good landing spot for jonah colman because if he ends up being the successor to jk dobbins down the line or whatever but they just took rj harvey in the second round last year i think it's going to be nightmare i don't want to deal with it i'm not going to worry about it i don't want to be slave to the whims of shon patin i'm not going to do it so that sucks for jonah colman this is the difference between craig and i and you is you're at the point in life where you're like i don't have a room in my life for toxic people and you're like shon patin's a toxic person and i won't be talked about he took jonah he saw a breakout of me talking about jonah colman and he decided i'm going to fuck this guy yeah it did seem like a lot of the teams that had openings at the running back position didn't take a running back like there are teams that were like oh tenacy or it's like jacksonville or carolina there are these teams where you're like oh like maybe one of these guys could have made an immediate splash and instead they're behind christian mccaffrey and ashton genti or they're on arizona like jeremy eleventh tenacy did take nicolas singleton which is kind of interesting but it's a six round pick so you can't really like anything from that it's a the last winner i want to mention is i do think young quarterbacks kind of won it's not like overwhelming but jackson dart they drafted frances marinoa as a tackle out of miami who again did walk up on the stage and said i'll die for you which i think that's the new bar will cambell started it but if the tackle doesn't say in the interview that i'll die for the quarterback i don't want him i actually have to hear that now it's like secret service yeah i do you know all right yeah too soon yeah um um uh tyler schuck the quarter of the saints i mean they went and got him jordan tyson and brice lance trailance's brother and receiver so the saints just went and got him travis travis i like that the running back formerly known as travis etn they got him agar david edwards from the bills and then now they got him jordan tyson as you know top ten pick at receiver and then also brice lance and it's like the saints offense now is kind of like what the falcons was a couple years ago it's like kind of all very highly drafted players at almost every spot and the entire offense around tyler schuck and then cam ward got carnell tatis receiver you it's funny because his carnell tate tini higgins is he corrie davis you know what i mean it's he will see how his career goes but i mean that's good for cam ward and then jane danels even at least they they did get and tony williams the receiver i think that's a smart move for them i like that so uh i do want to play a game though i think the biggest loser a lot of these quarterbacks i mean fell i mean my god but i want to play a game called two quarterbacks who were drafted ahead of garret nusmeyer and a lie and craig i want to play let's play this game here two of these guys were in fact drafted ahead of garret nusmeyer who went in the seventh round of the chiefs baron morten from texas tech athin koleak monis from ruckers or ralph rucker the fourth from bucknell ralph rucker ralph rucker like wreckett ralph wreckett ralph rucker athin koleak monis and baron morten one of these is a lie one of these men was not drafted ahead of garret nusmeyer i love all their tape um i don't know the the the the bucknell guy i don't know fuck yeah that is the lie nice god damn it good guess he is a real person what happened to nusmeyer was there something we didn't know or is he just not good that is the question i don't know um i think that is the question that great question do you believe that based on his skill set if there is nothing else going on that he should be a seventh round pick yeah you do no no no sorry i don't think he should have fallen that far as i was saying yes i think based on his skill set based on what what no wait yes i don't understand the question sorry i wasn't listening uh no austin was texting us hold on injuries is what mcshay is hearing so that i mean and that makes sense look he was he was diagnosed with a cyst on his spine which is the reason he was having those issues last year it wasn't like a bulging disc or whatever they said it was at the time um so that and then i think he had a knee issue as well well his that makes sense because at the senior he basically said after the season ended that they actually didn't have it my diagnosis corrected until two weeks ago that was in late january yeah so i think awkwams razor is just an injury thing his skill set he should have been at least like a third or fourth round pick i think i don't want to hear the word spine right it's not a great and it was causing him excruciating pain all year like that's not a great look obviously um so i think that was what happened landing in in kansas city is pretty interesting though i mean obviously he gets to learn from andy reid in that offense under uh patrick mighomes and and i don't know if justin fields is gonna help him at all but does he even make him faster yeah but uh but yeah i mean in that system or whatever like that should be good for him hopefully some some point down the line through four years down the line maybe he gets a shot to play um but yeah like this is obviously a really tough fall for him and like it was shocking some of the quarterbacks like heifetz said that we're coming off the board six seventh round i'm like what the fuck is going on with nusmeyer why is it also in a bad draft where it's like oh a lot of these guys they're like all right these are backups these are there's like kickers going first people start looking at special team performance and all these things or can this person be our third tight end the positional value at that point is like fuck it take a quarterback the fact that they fell in a bad draft i think suggests that they're actually even lower on these people than we could have thought because i think if garret nusmeyer is going seventh round in this draft it implies he wouldn't have been drafted at all in previous drafts yeah especially with the the sixth seventh round they're just emptying out because of nil a lot of these guys are going back to money for or back to school for more money or eligibility so it's like a seventh round pick in this draft really is an undrafted free agent by previous standards so that yeah that's not great um okay i want to get to the best pick of the weekend and i want to read i think the nominees and i'm curious dk you're gonna have to pick one i think the nominees are the giants getting r-vill recent number five display the draft and not to lead the witness the dallas trading up and getting calib down to the 11 the buccaneers getting ruben bain at 15 and then can we straight it up to get down what did i say one pick yeah he said treat it down oh it's because his name's down i got confused that's funny sorry his name's down the way the brain works up down up yeah sorry uh what song is that up down up down up down all i do is win yeah yeah shout out to him shout out to him what commercial he's getting paid by someone i'm sure he just did a big commercial i forget he's almost certainly probably i've never like willingly listened to him but there's a lot of him in my head it's never been on purpose all i do is win was a was a was a moment in time that i enjoyed yeah yeah anyway also the texans leapfrog the giants to get kade mcdonald the tackle of a house state dk embarrassing for the new york giants getting leapfrog like that so embarrassing they're on the phone with them yeah um i would if the giants were on the phone with kade mcdonald yeah or if the they might have been if the we don't know that he's was on camera let me say this if this had happened to the jets the jets were on the phone with the prospect and then they hang up this cowboy's theory you have is just fine i saw that tweet as well fine i know that's where you took forget that forget that if we all saw it if the jets there was not all i was believing it was like mcdonald the cowboy's five years ago get that some guy leave it five years ago if the jets like powering through if the jets were on the phone with a player and then he hung up on them and then he didn't go to the jets would everyone not be making fun of them for this if it was brick maybe if it was brick for sure brick got broken up with or whatever yeah that'd be tough or if the browns like if one of the teams we make fun of all the time we're hung up on i don't know i'm i feel like this happens all the time i don't understand this don't pigs get leaked all the time isn't this how this works uh to answer your question i guess i'm r-vel reese would be my pick but i'm not going to give you that satisfaction so i'm gonna go with buckin here's getting ruben bane by the way did you see i this ruben bane when he got selected he was fucking pissed and when he was walking out the little hallway he's walking out the hallway to go to the stage pure business walks down the hallway grabs his hat like angrily puts it on cocks his wrist like and this was a chervisek and what pointed this out he cocked his wrist like uh henry cavill like you know like i'm ready and then goes out and say he's like mad i was like okay i want that guy i might i have to say i do think ruben bane will be a hall of famer i do i everything about him i think it's already always goes to hall of fame i i just i know it's ridiculous for a gold jacket i i do i have to say it's so stupid but the fact that he didn't get a haircut for the combine does stick in my head everyone all these players have fucking training immaculate haircuts all these men have it's a giant job interview all of them have great haircuts for the like and all of them have barbers in their fancy house they'd organ locker rooms they get haircuts for every game and ruben bane just not getting haircut i was like man this guy really doesn't care all he cares about his ball um i really like to have a base draft overall by the way they got they also got jessiah trodder in the second round just downhill thumper really tenacious field general type of guy obviously um son of an nfl player ted herst i think that's a really interesting pick in third round basically like a poor man's version of mike mike evans on the outside super explosive player ted herst is the best fantasy related player we didn't really talk about free draft but ted herst is he went to george's state i think he's a good example of like why are it like if you're it's kind of like skylar bell who went to uconn and just led was top five in like every category and called triple the sheer and it's like okay well if you're so good why are you at a shitty school but i i do think it's easy for teams to be like we're going to ignore these guys but ted herst is pretty awesome he moves diff he is tall fluid sudden and really really like he has a massive catch radius he could be on he could play on the outside for them and i think he kind of complements what they have in their receiver room right now and obviously with baker just ripping passes anything's possible with that what does baker do he just fucking rips them how much and then keonte scott your guy i love keonte scott in the fourth round he fell the fourth round i think probably age related and 25 years speed based quarterback who can't cover people right but okay i still mean but but it's very cool never seen anyone like him he's still to me the fastest player i've ever seen who loves tackling he it's so it's such a different skill set that you ever see we're like this is the fastest player on the entire field and he's actually terrible at covering receivers but he's like the best quarterback blitzer like he's not that big i don't want to pretend but like it's instead of power he's just running around guards in between the tackles like he's so fast sneaky little shit but in all seriousness all the guards like they've never seen anyone that fast running at them for a while it's like a different kind of thing and so if you don't get your hand on him immediately oh my god like he just the amount of sacks he gets the rollouts like the running like the even on in the running play like the entire point when we talk about the shanahan system just to go back in time mike shanahan and gary kubiak the klin kubiak's father they the entire point of wide zone zone scheme running the entire point of doing it that way was to make cornerbacks tackle the entire system worked backward from let's make like you have your x's and o's but the worst x on the board at tackling is the cornerback there's a famous video with alex gibbs who was the offensive line coach of those teams back in the day where he's doing a like he's teaching coaches it's like a clinic or whatever and i think he's talking to college players college coaches and he's like we got to make the corners tackle they're just as shitty at tackling in our league as they are in yours and it was just like it went viral it's so funny it alex gibbs is just kind of like a he's he invented awesome yeah but all that's to say it's just funny to have a cornerback today where it's like he's an unbelievable tackler he hits he's fast and he can't cover and he's four three and i'm like all right we'll teach him to cover but he's 25 it's i love but the bucks got him and it's i the bucks draft was really good all right worst pick of the weekend the single worst pick of the entire weekend the nominees the minnesota vikings taking keila banks dk this might be the highest variance pick in the entire draft yeah because he's defensive tackle out of florida who if he was completely healthy is probably maybe a top 15 pick it could be like a christ jones type of player but we don't know because he played three games last season at florida before he broke his foot right and then broke his try to come back and then re-injured it and then he heard it again when he was running really fast at the combine so a defensive tackle who's broken his foot twice in six months it's about as high about as high variance as it gets i mean big guys with foot injuries is just really scary so you never know where this is going to go it sounds like he's on track to start practicing in june or whatever but it's like a quarterback with the back injury we were like uh like it's some it's common sense like it's that's a lot of weight on a foot that broke twice and also the whole thing is you have to sit there and like anchor it's like kind of everything um i hate to say it but other nominee for worst pick of the weekend is the ceo taking jenery and price the running back the second backup running back at a doder yeah i think like from a analytical and value-based point of view like again i'd like jenery and price i actually think he's a good player but he's just not a first round running back he's not he's we've never seen a player with his like sort of statistical profile the fact he was a backup on his own team yeah for most of his career and he doesn't catch passes or at least he didn't in college i think he could and he could develop there he's he flashes the ability to do it i believe so basically yeah he is a backup quarterback or backup running back on his own team who doesn't really catch passes that is not a first round quarter of running back i actually think his receiving is underrated but even that is like a yes it's a projection it's like i think you're blessing yeah i i still think saying bless you these is ridiculous yeah i know that's my problem with it is i like it so i'm a dick i like it it's it's polite it is but like it's like saying like you're excused yeah but when you cough you would net i said bless you like that'd be weird right because that's not i think because a cough is less disrupt like there's so many types of coughs like if i'm like you you wouldn't a sneeze is always big and disruptive so acknowledging it and saying like you're good is nice but shouldn't you have to just say excuse me like you sneezed but i don't i don't want to say excuse me because you guys are speaking and i would interrupt you i just interrupted us anyway i like saying excuse me when i sneeze anyway what were we talking about jenery and price i hate that i'm a dick because i didn't say bless you when he sneezed well i'll pocket that forever yeah i guess it's not high on the list of all the reasons um but yeah the the value there is i mean you're just not a good it's not a good use of of draft capital he didn't have 15 catches in college jerry and price i believe he's the first running back taken in the first round who i never hit like 16 touches in a game and i believe he's the first running back taken in the first round who didn't have i think the number's 130 touches in a given season or 140 or something having said that best kick return in college football i still think he's gonna be a good player for them a lot of it's just a value proposition the it's a good example sometimes where you can't just look at like you're like oh well you had this many touches well but if you go and watch the games a lot of times he can get touches because he went and scored a touchdown immediately like that is also like oh we didn't get them my touches well it's because he ran for 60 yards on his first touch and then he had it like he was tired and then they put jerry my love and he got like if they didn't win this Super Bowl they would have gotten killed for this pick i think yeah that is and exactly if schneider hadn't hasn't been on like an absolute here for the last three years drafting i think you give him a pass on this fucking thing again are you serious and they got screwed they obviously wanted to trade out and what five of the six yeah haven't got traded and they wanted they didn't want to make the pick and they were like oh literally everyone we were talking they were talking to five teams at all five minute trade with somebody else and you got screwed yeah so basically yeah like i said before they painted themselves into a corner at the running back position and then and then four or five trades happened right at the very end of the draft i'm sure they just couldn't get another person another team to trade in uh other worst pick of the week in nominee is the jaguars taking texas a and a and m titan nate borker sure uh orkutcher borker sure i don't know i don't know either it's also funny borker sure who is 200 picks higher on the the consensus board which is kind of aggregating everyone's boards wisdom of the crowd style like like you know the index fund is it was too it was a reach by 200 picks how do we feel about um john lynch in the presser i don't know who it was but somebody just like blatantly asked the question like well because we should talk about dejan stripling the receiver oh was it him the receiver out of Ole Miss they took him 33rd the first pick of the second round dejan stripling is the pick grant cones the guy asked the question correct dejan stripling yeah we probably know that um you know the grant cones the first pick of the second round well yeah i know we just had ted herst right um and he was like man it seems like you guys really reached for this guy like the consensus big board he's like a hundred spots lower than you took him and then john lynch was like well that's your nerd big board we have our nerd no but essentially yeah it's what he meant yeah he's the anchor he's like i'm gonna fucking stuff you in a locker yeah exactly he's like cool you guys have your big board we don't read that we have our own big board and this guy was high on her big board so we fucking took him john lynch was literally like eight pieces of shit like you for breakfast yeah how do you feel about that analysis and that response i would say okay well we've looked at what you draft in the second round and it sucks dude like maybe you should listen to the consent maybe sometimes there is wisdom in crowds maybe sometimes you should listen to the thousand other people or whatever that is whatever the number is that saw this guy and decided he's not worth a second round pick um it is obviously this push and pull to it because you know why are they getting paid because they're getting paid to make their own uh decisions and make their own make their own opinions and obviously there's a huge part of it which is the personality thing and who they are as people and how competitive they are and stuff like that a lot of times these these draft boards consensus boards don't factor that in it's just not something that they have access to yeah teams do but i mean over the long term like the consensus board gives you information on i think it is worth paying attention to and trying to stick to at least a little bit because i mean it is just the wisdom of crowds like i think the bottom line is the way i put it is teams overall teams that try and get too cute with the draft or just think they're smarter than everyone else more often than not they're wrong well and we said this i think maybe on this the friday episode or maybe it must have been the friday episode but it's worth saying again this is every skill position player that the Niners have taken in the on day two in the shanahen era now Dijon Stribbling, Titan Cameron Latu, Running Bacterian Davis Price, Wide Receiver Danny Gray, Running Back Trey Sermon, Debo Samuel, Wide Receiver Jalen Hurd and Wide Receiver Dante Pettis yeah and Debo Samuel was like a no doubt guy and so i mean obviously that was good picked by them but the rest of those guys were massive reaches Debo Samuel wasn't a reach he wasn't considered a reach he would have been like he would have been like they went on the consensus board and saw Debo Samuel there and all those other guys i think and not maybe not all of them but like for the vast majority of those players i think the reaction during the draft was like oh that's yeah Danny Gray i remember that was like he was supposed to be a fifth rounder or whatever on the consensus board so it's like ignoring completely ignoring the consensus board is i don't know what the word is it's like not even not hubris is like probably the closest thing to it well i mean Warren Sharp had this thing about John Lynch's performance and again you can measure performance in many different ways you certainly can i don't think i can read these consensus board rankings that's disappointing follow-up if you there's not only one way to judge performance that's all i'm saying length is not one no it could be any this outcome look hard work look talent hard work face talent and talent doesn't work hard yeah that's right but the diners have drafted very poorly the last four years and the again to your point about like yeah they get paid to make picks but the truth is you're not getting paid to be a contrarian all the time you're getting paid to know when to differ from the right consensus like even like there's still a humility in being like you literally can't make a living just trying to be against the grain all the time like if you're a poker player like there's still a certain range of outcomes and certain odds and you become a better playing probabilities like yeah like you're playing probabilities you know and when to defer and all these things but overall the night like the proof like they haven't hit a lot of picks recently no John Lynch ignored my mock he did yeah he ignores everyone's fucking mock he yeah and it's not just him i mean there's a handful of they took a kicker in the third fucking round and then cut him and like honestly like all all those guys are any of them still on the 49ers i don't think so i mean they didn't even make it through the rookie contracts most of them they took a kicker in the third round yeah it's like that's just what like it's weird you've been four months of this you took a kicker in the third round top 100 also like i would add the 49ers fans that i've seen or talked to are also frustrated with this they're that third run tight and they took cam lot two was on the team for one year yeah i also like the running backs that they've taken in second and third round over the last couple years they shanahan just puts them in the doghouse and forgets about them yeah they never do anything um so yeah i think generally speaking i respect when people have conviction on a player but i think there also is the proposition of when when can we maximize our picks to get this guy instead of picking them 100 picks before you know wherever he's supposed to go terry and davis price who's 25 years old is currently on the birmingham birmingham stallions there we go dude all right and he was supposed to be a fifth runner so i this is one of those things where we can never really know where a player was going to be taken but it's playing probabilities well and the fact that the niners just you can pencil them in for like 11 or 12 wins every year does a lot of work for this the draft this is also the downside of having like a great look at some point a kyle shanahan maybe you need a bret veach and i'm not saying john lynch and them are going to break up or anything but they've been together a long time at some point like changes might need to be made but it's more like also curious if how that decision-making is you know john lynch said well it's not about consensus board the consensus in our building i'm like what does what does that mean who kyle wants how many people are really fighting kyle shanahan and the player if you really want something you know i mean at the end of the day a lot of like third round running backs and random receivers being taken to be the backup running back i'm like at some point kyle shanahan watches the tape wants a running back and then they haven't worked out in like seven years so anyway i think the other thing like the borker chair pick to me felt just completely yeah native orkature of texas a nem but doogie has it just it just that it to me was the definition maybe he's going to turn into a good that was their first pick in the draft maybe that'll turn into a good player who knows but it's a develop a 25 year old tight end to me is like if he's not good immediately a tight end is seventh year senior tight sorry sixth year senior he couldn't start till six years he spent five years at Nebraska and then transferred but i was 38 catches in his career outside of four players that have been great recently in the rookie year like and i could tyler fan and or sorry tyler warren and herald fan and we're good tight ends last year sam lapporte had a good rookie year kyle pits had a good rookie year and rock bar is a good rookie year outside of those five people tight end very famously usually don't contribute at all till year two or three it's like the defining aspect of the position almost and he'll do that when he's 28 for a team that should win the super bowl this year it's a weird pick i saw an interview with uh james jimmy stones and i don't know he was explaining james gladstone the gm of the jimmy stones and jimmy stones he was basically explaining and to me i'm like this just feels like way over thought way overthinking it basically he said we've seen the direction the nfl is going with two tight end and three tight end sets it's a big deal and we we just basically knew we wanted we needed to get our guy i'm like when you're that locked into one player and you get that sort of tunnel vision on one guy that's where really bad value picks happen you should have a little more nuance and variance on your board you can have like look maybe there's a free agent we can get that can block really well you know don't get locked in that thing that's what the cx did with daring price don't get so locked in on one player that you get terrible value for it your draft at nfl draft dot the rear dot com your thing put it well the cx painted themselves into a corner and then they had to take a running back but because they didn't have another option because they didn't you didn't get anybody in free agency they and they let count walker walk another when you put it like that Caleb downs trade up uh worst pick of the weekend i think we're gonna give it to one of those but i do want to give a i think the dolphins should get the award for the kombucha girl draft where the woman tries to kombucha she's like oh i don't know and the dolphins had every pick i feel like was either awesome terrible awesome terrible like and then even the guys in the middle are like high variance yeah so it's like the dolphins went ahead i mean what grade did you i don't know how you even give them a grade you give them a b plus something like so look they got to 13 players first the first pick they did they passed on Caleb downs they traded back one with the doll with the cowboys and then they picked kaden proctor and talking to carlos and i and i'm guessing a lot of dolphins translate you just passed on one of the coolest players in the draft like an awesome football player and then you took this massive offensive tackle it's just really the the excitement delta on that is is massive it's like me i mean we have the video of me like when i'm watching thinking the giant's gonna Caleb downs and they took francis marino i'm like all right vegetables broccoli i get so yeah so then so taking kaden proctor it's like can i point out one thing on proctor we have not talked about nate teis pointed this out shout out to nate who's laughing about it and i the nick sabin quote on kaden proctor is is like he didn't say anything bad but like obviously coaches are supposed to talk up their guys nick sabin said dude the thing nick sabin said sorry oh no this reminds me of all vamp while you're doing this when the seahawks picked shoot there was an offensive lineman alabama offensive lineman the seahawks picked in the first round that no one thought and again this is when this was during john schneider's cute era and used it panned right to nick sabin in the draft room and he was like what and everyone was like oh that's not a good sign the worst if we just had a camera all the coaches at all times he was like first round we should the biggest miss i think we've ever had in our show is that anthony richardsons coach in college in florida said uh he thought richardson needed to work on his leadership and maturity which holy shit for your college coaches say that like that reminds me like everyone thought of sauerkraut's i think brian kelly said to shon kaiser should go back to school and i go to and everyone's like oh and it's like well he was right and it's like when the coach doesn't want the quarterback like that's very telling but it was james carpenter by the way but the nick uh nick sabin the quote on him a kaden proctor again was left tackle at alabama for like years the issue is to them he's not a bad person he'll do whatever you ask him to not a great start once you get him in the building nice guy though but when he's good person but when he's not in the building he might jsn sorry go ahead it is like the jsn he's a good person are we live are we live yeah the excitement was left when he's not in the building he might get a little overweight he might not come in the best shape and those things are those are things you have to manage with them but i think they're manageable he's not exactly a self starter who he says he won't come to camp in the shape you want but you can still get him to come to camp and then you can get him ready to go over all pick and i'm like that is i mean it's the beginning of a rebuild and it's like this player should be like a it's a little cliche but there is something in the fact when you start a thing the the jeff van gundy quote who's the coach of the nicks forever not forever but he has this great quote that your best player should set a culture of intolerance for anything that gets in the way of and it is a culture sighing but the idea that nick savan is like well he's not a self starter i'm like this is the left hackle he's supposed to be like a cornerstone of your franchise right right he should he's supposed to be an exemplar to everybody else about how to behave and the only thing we really know about him for sure is that he admitted he was 50 pounds overweight and they call him crispy cream his nickname is crispy tough it's not great he might still end up being a great player but yeah that to the react the instant reaction is like ah don't love that but then they came back and drafted christ johnson who we love sandio state crispy johnson christ johnson no sorry he's a cornerback he doesn't need to um and then they drafted jacob arrigas who we love awesome player just all over the place line back up stats he he turns he gets turnovers all i love linebackers that get heisman votes it's always awesome awesome mustache one of the one of the greatest mustaches and also one of the best forced fumble players in the history culture peanut punch guy yeah you can't you have to have two hands on the ball when he's anywhere near you because he's really good it's i compared him to um in the pre-drive process i compared him to mickey from snatch you know how he just breath fits just like the one punch it's honestly also in a division where you have remandry stevensson in the patriots it's like he might send remandry stevensson into the uh like like i wish we could put my confandel get us a line right now on jacob rodrigas to force two multiple fumble remandry this year uh and then so we're riding a high dolphins great draft class they've got so many picks and then they draft calib duglass over a lot of receivers that we really like still on the board and i literally no one knows who this guy is he was supposed to be like the 250th pick in the draft um and then they come back and draft chris bell that's according to the nerds board right the nerd board they come back and draft chris bell in the third round and uh kevin colman i like both these guys chris bell is the one that you you can you can squint and visualize an a g brown what if a g brown tours acl right in college i think there's a chance chris bell is like the number one receiver on this team by next year um and so and then you add in kevin colman who i loved as a slot receiver they got him in the fifth round um analytically he's pretty exciting player statistically what he did in college he's he's really shifty really quick i don't know i and i like the job they also got kyle luis on the fourth round which was a massive value so they got shark luis they got we're rebranding them shark shark luis and in miami we got storm duck and shark luis wait i'm forgetting the shark reference this is the like the people his name was boring oh okay well also i think the position group in pit they were called the sharks oh so like he should just be called shark oh nice i like that uh but anyways bottom line bottom line i think you did it's fine i was trying to i was trying to move on quickly um anyway love the draft mostly kombucha i think i ended up liking it yeah they they they had 13 darts and they don't play darts a lot it seemed like like the darts went a little bit everywhere but you know you had 13 so that's why um yeah other awards here i do want to i mean i i do think the eagles and browns not to just always just fucking worship at the altar of howie roseman which is always annoying every year but man the eagles getting jonathan granard for two third rounders just craig's question is like why didn't any other team do that he was just sitting there available for two third rounders it's one of those i always think that with every drag every trade i'm like why didn't we do that also we're like three months away probably from the eagles getting a first round pick for a jay i really do think everyone's just busy man and howie roseman i just do think i'm talking on the phone he's just i swear he's talking to people more like it's not that deep i it's one of those things like yeah whatever and then you're like watching the eagles in week three you're like how the fuck did they get jonathan granard for a third rounder next year in the good draft and this year in the bad draft like that i don't get it um draft x of the weekend we talk a lot about the draft picks i want to talk about draft x obviously shon mcvay doing damage control live during round five of the draft was like a huge ick sure um uh weird story uh i have to kelo belowmu being drafted as the by the patriots and then they play his draft thing and he's just doing the like weird dance that he was doing like deeply unserious frances marinoa gets taken by the giants and he's like jacks and dar i will die for you and will camble who on the patriots went up i'll die for you and kelo was like yeah vivan and i'm like that man doesn't like literally what is the knock on him i don't know if he loves hating people and then you watch that you're like this guys yeah it's not a tackle yeah that wasn't great do you think he did multiple takes and then and they chose that one and or or they chose it he's like i was just having fun i thought the cameras were off yeah you know what my favorite song came on and then they freaking tricked me offensive man i need came on i you know you don't want your offensive lineman just dancing in the video but just the man i dude you shouldn't be silly if you're a left tackle a left tackle can up you a silly guy yeah i want my left tackle walking out like rube and bay did put on the head he's like let's go to i'm headed to the gym yeah he's silly i don't want to silly that should be our that should be our word next year it's like you can say soft but he's silly he's silly goose he's a silly goose he's a silly goose silly goose silly guy can i can i admit something please i've been like in this guy's corner the entire draft really like him kind of i feel like i've pushed back on some people that think he's maybe not as good as the hype would tell you i pushed back on some of the stuff that people talked about him at the combine when mckeilammon got drafted he did the whole snake thing again on stage and i was like did i make a mistake on this like i don't know if i think he's good anymore maybe the stealers a guy in the stealers tipped the eagles off oh one guy was like we can't be taken away i can't i can't deal with this next level he was getting interviewed on stage on you know after getting drafted he was doing the swaying thing again i was like he even said that i saw an interview with him before the draft where he's like i learned a lesson you know how to comport myself in these interview situations blah blah blah and then he just like defaulted right back yeah when the lights are bright as he's got his snake dude you know that Mercedes commercial where they hold up a chicken to try to explain how the access works or whatever or the axle works and it's like if you move a chick the chicken's head just stays if you move a chicken it's a completely stage in place you know it's like you literally like it basically it's neck is completely yeah exactly mckeilammon's like the exact opposite like his head no matter what he's doing his head's like always in motion chickens have gyroscopic heads i thought it was like hawks and owls when they're flying because they're hunters right can move like their body is moving all over the place and their head just stays in the exact same spot now chicken i didn't expect a chicken to have that type of hunting chicken isn't it weird that chickens and t-rexes or like it's like their closest living thing oh wow that is pretty impressive you're not crazy it's like a tank turret have you ever seen the videos of like a they have the gyroscopic tank turret they're going over all these bumps damn oh yeah chicken i didn't i was i was not familiar with your game dude jim harbaugh blown away by the production of the animal chicken chickens were at one point in their history like he like a pop i know clever girl he did a 180 on them i mean he did that they were nervous birds now he eats them now he owns when he was in michigan he had a coop he was like i'm blown away by the production it's a funny guy kind of cool a cooped is like a by the way cool name for owning your own chickens is like the most LA thing you can do is it yeah well performatively or for real for real like rich people now just like have their own farms in their backyards like that's the new thing is like i grow my own food skip he really wants to get ducks yeah i'm like george is gonna rip this duck don't you have a bird it's actually no he he probably wouldn't because he is a guardian dog i think he would actually be best friends with him but i don't want to admit that because i don't want to get ducks can i say uh unlikely animal friendship another like social media moment of this draft that i thought it's not it's not a draft ick at all i just thought it was really funny is did you guys see the clip of uh mike mcdaniel when they drafted the receiver brendan thompson oh i heard about this i am obsessed with mike mcdaniel and i him and harbaugh together is like a buddy cop movie oh my god and i wish there was a camera inside that building at all times he he was like if you guys draft brendan thompson i will take my shirt off right now in this room he's the best i gotta tell you i that's so weird and i love it it's so funny too because you're like wow that's awesome i wonder what guy they got and brendan thompson a five nine receiver in the fifth round do you he is 164 pounds they took a one i believe the lightest player in the entire nfl that's how much i weighed in eighth grade that i mean he's an nfl receiver like that's it was that in the third round or the fourth round dude if you're 160 pounds you should not be a fourth round player you want i don't understand like fast man fast he was on the phone with him too he's like all right man go party go take your shirt off you just got drafted what's the take it what is with mcdaniel it's really obsessed with taking his shirt off he's great i i feel like every time harbaugh looks at him he's like you are a sad strange little man and i like you i want to at some point when we do our fantasy landing spots we're gonna do that i think later this week i we have to just make a decision and stick to it on should we even like how seriously are we going to talk ourselves into guys like kasey concepts you know denzel boston the receivers on cleveland and like i like even versus don't we just for better or for worse want to go down with just give me lad mcconkey and let me be invested in mike redaniel the chargers and however their season goes that's how my season will go like we just want to like actually hold to it for once of like we're not being in on the browns i don't care what is said like like we're just gonna pick our players we're gonna rank them accordingly and like i'm not getting sucked into i mean if you're talking about drafting lad mcconkey versus denzel boston no i'm saying we're gonna move them like like the nerd board we're gonna move them like four rounds below consensus because you know what you don't want to spend a hundred hours watching the cleave the browns i have very incredibly strong powers of talking myself into things so i mean you are debating talking yourself into dishean blotzer right whose torn is it killings twice todd mccan's done some interesting stuff in his career sure like miss the head coach photo if i was getting a haircut he's too busy freaking drawing plays i don't know he was getting a haircut he was thinking about plays he's drawing up i love that he skipped the head i love that there was a photo but the meeting before that was a head coach meeting for all 32 coaches and he skipped that meeting he's kind of the haircut he kind of reminds me of the head coach on the water boy uh fonz fonzarello what's his name Henry wink that's yeah wink there he's like he's got all these plays in his head but uh can't show up to a picture to a picture we're gonna we're gonna go through and we're gonna have like a more comprehensive look at every other draft as well so anything else that like from draft weekend that we just didn't hit that you do want to hit other than that guy who has to get kicked in the nuts because the seawalks took a running back with their first pick we're going back and forth it's the biggest story of the weekend we're gonna get a video from that guy don't worry i think we should stream that video live during our live fantasy draft in august oh should we fly them out and do it on a live on it should we fly the guys out do it that might be more fun in theory than in reality but then he gets hurt and then it kind of kill brings the vibes down we just like watching topple to the ground yeah then he's like you know like uh austin fowers and the guy's like i'm still alive please send help i don't know if i actually want to watch him get shot he's like i get kicked in the nuts yeah it sounds funny i'm very badly burned he's just like writhing in pain which is like one of his testicles has exploded jesus should that be the punishment this year one of the drafts you get kicked in the nuts no no i feel like we're adults we don't need to do that this guy's older than us the guy i agree to it is older than we are fair fair he's like 44 or something that doesn't make it right would you yeah i'm not doing that you can suggest it i guess but you someone asked were you the one who asked like oh these people old kids already confirmed yeah they're like they got they're snipped he's like i can't feel a thing down there i'm like a kendall down there okay all right um this is our last episode in person for a minute is there anything else we want to get out what we're here so like we've we've talked a lot this weekend congrats on winning the draft the giants probably giants and browns and raiders the raiders got a quarterback i feel like they have to win yeah in the next episode we're gonna have an episode on wednesday and then also we're going back to ring a fancy football show that's right we're gonna talk we're gonna talk rookie landing spots also wait i got that wrong sorry we're gonna have an episode on tuesday morning and then thursday morning and then we're no that's wrong tight what this the what we're taping now is monday then we will the next show will come out wednesday oh yeah he's right yeah so but uh we're gonna there will be another show like thursday afternoon friday morning but if you started listening to us this season the title of this feed will now be the ringer fantasy football show which is the same thing and just stick with it and it's it's just time to start ramping it back up 364 days till next year's hockey tryouts i got a little bit but i'm okay yeah yeah i can't believe the niners took a kicker in the third round and then like didn't win a super ball and he's on the commanders what team is the bears oh it's the bears all right oh yeah okay thank you dk thank you craig thank you to uh everyone who emailed in or commented instagram uh about the guy getting kicked in his nuts i'm glad we're interested in that thank you everyone really invested in this thank you everyone who's concerned for my heart because how much red bull i've drank you are currently drinking yeah this wasn't coffee this was we started this recording at 10 30 a.m he has been on the west coast for four days well now i gotta get back to his coast time that's you know that's really the problem why how does a red bull at 10 a.m help that i don't know i thought i started it a bit i'm worried i can't stop now it's and you already had coffee this morning foreign red bulls in the mugs this guy needs an intervention you know he's like hiding it in the mug shaking dude remember did you watch peeky blinders the third season the russian season when he's like why do you people fuck with people so much he's like she's like at first we did it fuck are you talking about he like you know last season two episode four when jack is on the island and he's trying to like eat food and he can't yeah that's just like the raiders this year you're three episode four and you and i every time nod like of course that line i watched peeky blinders i have no idea what line he is talking about i actually i will credit you you have some good lines oh he's a you you're amazing at them if you're they always apply well i don't know where the fucking super applicable yeah i just keep it instead of all the organization you'd be preferred i have he's always i do like that line he's like you know the lanister line went from terrian in season four of games i was like no of course i don't how do you want to die terrian lanister 80 years old belly full of wine girls cock around my neck oh no not neck girls around my neck i don't get all the quotes you gotta practice the poetry a little fuzzy what is the actual line girls girls mouth around my cock yeah that makes sense yeah girls cock around my neck he's good someone's cycle at all we had any balls that would be the title of this episode holy shit i'm really glad i wasn't only said that that was good i'm really glad i wasn't the one that said that also i was staring at thinking about how much i can quote things actually that was really good 80 years old belly full of wine girls are cock around my neck there's like some like auto erotic mixed the asian something that's real oh my god lord how do you recover from that i don't know we must just thank lord and get out of here thank you lord lord like you mind enterprises oh yeah craig tell me about this band they're uh they're like an italian disco techno group not right i'm in say less they're at coachella this year they rock all right yeah these two italian are they mdm what's what's that mdma said no that's not the band the drug what's no there's a mt mgmt are they kind of like that vibes or what no way more like old school 80s italian pop there's like no singing that sounds amazing yeah it's fun you feel like you're like a pool party when you listen to that music it's great yeah they're like did you hear this at
