Summary

The Pack-A-Day Podcast analyzes the NFL Players Association report card showing the Green Bay Packers dropped 14 spots to 21st overall, with significant concerns about coaching staff grades, training room operations, and lack of game-day childcare. The hosts discuss draft priorities ahead of the NFL Combine, focusing on defensive line, cornerback depth, and potential free agent acquisitions given the team's loss of a first-round pick.

Insights
  • Coaching staff grades, particularly offensive coordinator Adam Stenovich's C rating (26th), reflect internal player dissatisfaction that aligns with external criticism and suggest systemic offensive coordination issues beyond play-calling
  • The Packers' largest year-over-year drop (14 spots) combined with low respect-for-players ranking (second to last) indicates potential leadership and communication challenges that extend beyond individual performance metrics
  • Loss of first-round draft pick significantly constrains ability to address top-tier talent needs in defensive line and cornerback, forcing potential trade-ups or reliance on depth acquisitions in later rounds
  • Game-day childcare absence despite being one of few NFL teams without this amenity represents an easily addressable organizational oversight that contradicts the team's family-focused messaging
  • Training staff overhaul appears ineffective, suggesting personnel changes alone don't guarantee improved player satisfaction or injury management outcomes
Trends

"It's hard for me to say anything positive about this. It just seems very much like he's in a comfortable position in this organization but there are not just me but not just you at home many people who think that this is a person who maybe is not the ideal person to be in a role of that importance."
Jen CurtinDiscussing offensive coordinator
"Of the 14 teams that had an OC who got a grade of B-minus or worse, 12 of them changed their OC. It is the Packers and one other team who are continuing with OCs that got undesirable grades."
Host (citing Justice)Stenovich analysis
"I think it's a little bit odd. Now that Jordan loves having a baby. They've not had like a franchise quarterback that didn't have a kid while they were there."

20 minutes a day, 365 days a year. This is the Pack-A-Day Podcast. Hello, everybody, and welcome back to the Friday edition of the Pack-A-Day Podcast. I am one of your hosts, Erin Alice. Missing once again is Jimmy Christensen, but we don't care about him. With me, as always, the only person that has been here every week since our show started, Jen Curtin. How are you? The rumors are true. yeah it is it is she is reliable um also oh with us mr reliable also third day in a row on pack a day you got to start calling it packet dusty for uh you know whenever you're on so dusty how are you doing slowly dying other than that i'm here man we got it's report card day excited to talk report it's been too long since i've seen you guys i'm so excited to talk to you i know it's crazy um yeah welcome welcome back to you know fridays um yeah report card day let's just hop right into it uh in case you somehow missed it the uh despite the nfl doing everything that they could to lock down the nfl players association report card information didn't stay locked for very long. Yeah. I'm, I figured it was going to happen. It just at that point, just release them, just make it a whole website. That's just easy. You know, it's just so much better for everybody. And these report card, this has all of hackers, Twitter buzzing. It is got a lot going on. So we'll just, I'm just going to rattle through some stats and then we'll talk about them. So the first most important one is that the Packers were rated 21st overall. And if you are new here, if you don't know what we're talking about, the NFL Players Association does a survey of players. They did it from November 2nd through December 11th of this past season. And they asked them all sorts of questions about the organization from coaching to training to nutrition, to how they treat the families, to the field, all of this great, great stuff to kind of just help the NFLPA get more information on franchises, but also to distribute to players so they can kind of pick and choose where they want to go. It's a good way to put pressure and accountability on teams to, you know, improve their facility and just improve their organization. So the Packers dropped to 21st overall. They dropped 14 spots, which was the largest drop of any team year over year. They were in seventh last year, were in third in 2024 and ninth in 2023. The lowest rating that they got as far as their actual ranking was the training staff that came in 30th with a C grade. Then it was offensive coordinator. My boy. derogatory. I'm sorry. Head coach was actually even lower. Matt LaFleur was rated 27th out of all the coaches with a B minus though, but offensive coordinator got a C. So Senevich got a C and he was ranked 26th. Special teams, 20th, B plus, best rated of all the coaches outside of Jeff Halfley, who's no longer here, who got an A minus, which was still ranked 14th. And then on top of that, the ones that kind of dragged them down was the training room and the training staff. That was a big drag down, but they are redoing their training room. But the training staff one's interesting because they just redid their strength. They just gutted that team. So what happened there that that got a, that was 30th. That's interesting. Treatment of families, also still a problem in Green Bay. They, which is, I think, well, we'll get to that. One of my more surprising things is that they still don't provide daycare for players during game day. And they're like one of the few, if not the only organization that does not. And it's weird that that's been a gripe for a long, like for basically since these rankings came out and it still has not been addressed. It seems very unlike the Packers because they've redid the locker room. They've redone their strength and conditioning coach, coach, coaching room, despite it not obviously working, but, and then they've also are redoing their training room and then they redid their locker room. So I just, it's a little bit odd. Now that Jordan loves having a baby. They've not had like a franchise, like their their last franchise quarterback didn't have a kid while they were there so they're like we actually did not get like micah just had a kid and now jordan love you're like man we got our two stars we got to make them happy um goot uh got 20th which sounds bad but he got a b plus so he was on the more positive side of things um but i think the most disappointing one for me is ownership the packers ownership 15th in a minus who i demand to know who which one of you was dragging all of us down you've seen some of the games online all right man listen like yeah we know that some of these are not the best of people so i'm not taking the blame for this you guys should not be taking the blame it was they're they're we know we know who the people are they're dragging it down and it reflects probably on addresses i just want to talk no we will it'll just it'll be a peaceful conversation no um but yeah they like the the big one that has everybody buzzing because like i said the training room is being redone so that you can the training room you can pretty much ignore there were a couple of other ones like the state of the field which i think everybody's kind of noticed that the packers field has not been as good as it has in previous years but there were some other ones but the biggest one obviously what is making the rounds on social media is all of the coaching staff. Obviously, it stands Jeff Hathaway, mainly because he got an A-, but he's also not with the team anymore. So I think let's start with actually the special teams coordinator. I think this is a little bit weird because of the entire scenario, Rich Passaccia just like left kind of on a whim. And Goot said this week at the Combine that he was like kind of taken back by it. There were no signs of this. And it was indeed that he's not retiring. He is going to quote unquote, pursue other opportunities, which is very weird timing for him because all of the positions have been like all of the open positions have already been filled. But number two, that like, it's weird that like, what, what brought, like, why not, why didn't he know that he was going to like step away weeks prior or a month prior? It, that just kind of a weird scenario. And of course we're never going to know, um until someone releases a tell-all but um i like the idea of like rich passaggio releasing a kind of autobiography who's reading that man right rich passaggio tell all i'm not in line for that i'll tell you that right now queshawn nixon will like he loves that man he's the kind of staff we just nominate justice to every weird documentary he has to watch just just turn turn justice he's already halfway there man he's the packers uh pablo tori like that's yeah just that's that's your job now justice that's you're just putting out the weird packer stuff right um but are you guys i mean i was a little surprised he was rated 20th given they were like one of the worst special teams units in the in the league but um we talked about this a little bit last week about how like yeah some of it is on him for like there's only 10 guys out on for the extra point and stuff like that like that's coaching but you can only do so much when your kicker's not making kicks so you know but i mean is this surprise do you guys think it's surprising that he's that low or that high because obviously everybody says he's a big players coach but obviously not um but he did get a b plus though it feels like there's like a i and i don't know like you know each person can has their own like sliding scale of what this is he does seem like everyone seems to like him so i figured that gets him a boost a little bit there are some people probably a mad at it that's what you take like some of the coaching stuff is always like a who voted for this was someone someone just liked the guy as a person versus with someone having someone have a grudge against this person are they're on their way out did they like working there and so some of that like so like the training room the um when i look at these things usually i look at more like yeah the locker room the food dining area the nutritionist like that stuff makes sense so much of the coaching stuff and i just i just think of like how kurt bankert has talked about the floor like after the the fact and like where it certainly seems like there was something very small that he's just held on to that you get it if they if he's on the report card right for something like that like these he's giving a negative grade that's that that's a personal grudge thing so sometimes with the coach stuff how much of that is like I know the floor in the past I think the last one we saw was like was last year and the complaint was he doesn't take a lot of feedback from players which I think there's some good and some bad in that like you don't know exactly what goes into that we don't have that detail this year but i do wonder like i think a lot of the coach stuff either comes down to personality or one time i said something and this guy got mad at me and someone gave a negative grade so the coaching stuff almost means less to me um than some of the other stuff like the like team travel something like that like that means more to me i've got actually theory nil theories about the packers being the youngest team in the league and the way some of this stuff is rated but that stuff means more to be the coaches because i think you can have personalities that just clash and it just gives you a bad grade yeah and that's and that's why like this is I mean I yeah because I guess we'll just talk about the coaching staff as a whole we don't have to talk about like Rich Passaccia I'm winging in here but um because we we don't have enough time I don't think but I think the one that um is the most concerning i'm not gonna take up too much time because i know jen has a lot to say about this is the adam stenovich one is the adam stenovich one because he's getting a c and that was 26 which it was not the worst but she's literally cracking her knuckles she is so She's so ready, dude. She's so ready. She has the biggest smile on her face. She is just ready to go. And I think that one is a little weird because it's a what do you do here kind of scenario. The players don't love you. You don't call plays. You don't design plays. And also the offensive line's a mess. The offense can look lost sometimes. Like the players look like they don't know how to block. Like they look kind of lost and we've heard comments in the past about how the playbook is so complicated. And it's like, isn't your job to just like help with those things, clean that stuff up. The penalties have been a problem, like stuff like that. Those little things are not on the floor. And so then you've got the offensive coordinator getting poorly ranked by players as well. And so and I won't say poorly. There were some that were worse. the Giants owner got a D. I think that was like the lowest grade we saw, which I not shocked after their defensive coordinator also got a D plus. Yeah. The Giants, I didn't have a good outing. Oh no, the, I'm sorry. The, the Cincinnati got an F minus on food and dining. I think that was, that's gotta be, they're always there. Every single worker, they're there. yeah um but i think that yeah the the the stanovich one is just a little bit surprising given everything that we've seen and now the players are confirming it yeah i it's it's more of it's disappointing that it's also similar feelings internally as it is externally that it's not just us being weird but like you said dusty we're we don't know why people graded him that way so Jen without further ado do you have any thoughts on Adam so one one thing I will say that is like somewhat charitable to Matt LaFleur first is the head coach has far more responsibility eyebrows yeah yeah um the head coach has way more responsibilities than a coordinator. So when you see him get a grade that is like lower than we expected, he could be doing some things well. And then there's some things that are bothering the players. And it's very hard for us to know what that mix is. Obviously people are running with it because, you know, he's been the coach a long time. Everybody has their own opinion about him. and some people have made their minds up quite firmly and maybe even a Super Bowl wouldn't be enough to to change their minds at this point so of course that's like feeding into a sentiment that's already there I would just say it's obviously like not the ideal you want to hear but um given given that players spoke up publicly for him when the Fuhrer was sort of at its highest I don't really know what to make of that, but I think, you know, in an environment where the team felt sort of frustrated with how things went at times this year, maybe that's just a reflection of that. And then hopefully that doesn't continue next year because this is not what has been typical for him in these report cards. As for he who shall not be named. I thought I was done talking about this. I just like accepted that that you know it is what it is and there no point in me screaming into the void obviously it bad to get a C it bad to be like near the bottom what really like drives this home justice posted this when it came out and said of the 14 teams that had an OC who got a grade of B- or worse. So there's 14 of them. 12 of them changed their OC. It is the Packers and one other team who are continuing with OCs that got undesirable grades. So it's just feeding into this perspective that many of us have that, okay, so we saw in the hiring cycle, the rest of the league doesn't seem to think he's like a great candidate to be elevated you see especially at the end with seattle to not even really be in the mix there like it it was not a great look for how the rest of the league sees him and then you get this report that shows that internally they feel the same way and it starts to feel like after I just defended Matt LaFleur, like this is one of the things that drives people crazy about Matt LaFleur is that they feel like he doesn't make good staffing decisions. And this has been a big one. So yeah, it's hard to say anything positive about this. um it just seems very much like he's in a comfortable position in this organization but there are not just me but not just you at home many people who um think that this is a a person who maybe is not the ideal person to be in a role of that importance um but it is what it is like you know they they've made their decision um I like it's it's hard for me to to say anything positive about this um like hopefully next year goes a little bit better but um I would not be surprised if at the end of next year if if they haven't taken a leap forward we're having the same conversation again because it just seems like um that is one of the biggest areas on the staff that could be improved yeah and especially i was gonna say it's been it's been like it's somewhat of a red flag anyway that you've got this guy on a consistently top 10 offense that doesn't get like not only had coaching interviews like play calling offensive coordinator views I think he's had one. Like that's kind of a red flag anyway, especially when we saw a hacking, you know, he burned out, but flamed out really, really badly. But he got a head coaching job, what, in a couple years? Did not even get like head coaching – or not head coaching, offensive coordinator play calling duty interviews. That's kind of a red flag anyway, and then you see the grade coming from the inside. And, yeah, like I said, there could be other things going into that. It could be personality stuff. But his job is probably like maybe red zone package. He does some of that stuff probably. but your job is to coordinate day of, and then you're also like, you're getting your translator of the game plan during the game day. And I'm not necessarily the play call, but getting everything ready. If it's not going that well in the building. And then also it seems like other teams don't think highly enough to even like request interviews. It's not great, man. It's not great. I had hoped, I think I said this earlier, like after the season ended, I had hoped I know Hackett's name is kind of like this weird curse word because of what he did in Denver, but Hackett was a good offensive coordinator and he was, in the building i was like just get rid of steno and put hackett back at oc man like he worked well there everyone seemed to like him that the year that he was there that red zone i think was the best red zone they'd ever had and granted that was like a cold zone that was a rogers uh mvp season um and so you know maybe there's something the quarterback there as well but he was well liked and also he's not a guy's people are going to want to poach too much just because of his history so like just put him in there the fact that now he's out the door and we've got stenovich who just again like seems like a really good offensive line coach that just is not a good oc and that from multiple levels it seems like we're seeing that which stinks well and we'll be right back so i remember the very first time that drinking hit me differently i was drinking responsibly the night before and we had young kids at the time and i woke up with my son crying in bed and just didn't feel right. It was a very harsh reminder that after the age of 30, even responsibly drinking alcohol will make you feel less than 100% the next day. The more I looked into it, the more I realized that even a few alcoholic drinks will crush your sleep and your next day readiness. That's why I'm obsessed with Cheers Restore. I think it's, I would love to like, like to your point, we don't know why, like we don't know where this is coming from. If they just think he's just rude where they're like, yeah, he's fine at his job, but like he's just kind of, kind of a, an a-hole then like who, like, you know, like, oh, well, Like that, like that is a, like you said, a personal feeling, but like this, it feels like that can't, like not everybody can be all rating based on personality, but maybe they are, maybe something horrible happened where he said some just really mean stuff. Maybe he pushed the guy on the sidelines after he dropped the ball before he got to the end zone. Oh wait, that's their DC. But maybe he got a higher head coach rating on the floor, by the way, I didn't even notice good lord um yeah so it it's like they're but it just feels like unless something crazy happened that we just had don't know about it seems like it it has to be at least partially based on his actual job performance and i think the one because like to your point to see about the about the person personal issues is like mal which is it is concerning this note is that LeFleur ranked second to last in the league in respect for players. That one's kind of rough because that is, again, it's not, I mean, not everybody's ranking based on a personal opinion. So for it to be that bad, like something must have happened. But I also take that with a grain of salt because look at the, like the, like the Jair and the Romeo Dobbs situation. something happened in both of those scenarios where they did what they had to do as an organization to do it and they're not favoring like these are stars or whatnot we don't really know what happened nobody has really kind of said the gyre thing is i think related to the cap going up walking up to the captain but like there's at some point that you do need to like put guys in their place and say like no i am the coach and you are like a like a child like you're acting out so you got like consequences right there needs to be some discipline but i i don't i mean that's those are the only two instances that we've seen but that could be part of it where he just is not someone that's going to let guys do whatever they want and that just can come across so that was one of my one of my thoughts was and a couple different thoughts on it to go back to a point uh i think jen was talking about earlier with with like you know how he's rated and where he sits and all that stuff some of the other coaches so diane russini uh posted on blue sky like some of like the head coach report card results and kind of just collated these all together only two coaches got a pluses only two head coaches got a pluses it was sean mcveigh and dan quinn dan quinn dan quinn aim the a's are guys like ben johnson dan campbell ben johnson took a shirt off so he probably gets that mike vrable which is good but he also got guys like aaron glenn uh nick sirianni you've got sean mcdermott as an a minus who just got fired zach taylor's an a minus who like i i don't know he doesn't look like he ever knows what's going on so my like the point is like just because for me it's a if there's a respect thing going on and that's a problem then that's a problem we don't exactly know what's going on here but just looking at the he got whatever he's in the second to last group he was a b minus in there with uh he got he's in there with a b minus with a slash because it was brian callahan slash mike mccoy because callahan got axed after like four games or whatever a plus dan quinn's in the a plus and to me like that was one of those that sets off alarm bells again there's a thousand different things like this but you don't know dan quinn has always been like an all-times vibes guy just a guy like players love he gets him he gets him amped up he's there in the locker room with him he's chest bumping like i think uh i can't remember where he is i'm i'm missing him now but um oh p carroll is was a was a c plus like there's these guys that like people like but they're not good coaches but people like them like Aaron Glenn seems like a horrendous head coach but he's an a like you can't tell me that you'd rather have him and so not to say that like the grading is everything and that I you know Matt LaFleur you know I think everything he does is great like I don't think that's the case but you think when you look at this stuff it is very much a I mean what could go into this who's above who's below what could be going into that as well and to me that's that's that was one of the big things was Dan Quinn a plus like, ah, he just, he seems like a very kind of permissive players, player, head coach kind of thing, but I don't necessarily want him as a head coach. So it's just something to take into account. Yeah. And that's why, like, I wish we could get more context on exactly. Like I want to, I want to be able to read all of these. I should be allowed to as an owner of an NFL team. Um, even how can I get better? I'm ranked. I'm right. I want to get better. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. like that exactly that case closed whatever um but i think yeah and i think this is i mean i think the big one for me is still like stanovich i think that is it's just more support for like it's and maybe they're thinking because matt lefleur calls plays that they're like it doesn't matter anyways it's not important and it's like well it's important to these guys apparently so that's kind of a big deal. And that, that does play into the Matt LaFleur, like he, him not listening to players and him not having respect for players. If they are giving feedback and he's not listening, then like, or he's not correcting things. And, and who knows, people could be not comfortable speaking up. So this is their way of saying it without having to potentially create a problem. But it, it just is very interesting based on how we all felt. And this was not even taken during the losing streak where you could say, oh, it was at the end of the season and like they've just lost six games in a row. So it was miserable, whatever, blah, blah, blah. This was like when they were still like in a pretty good, they were like starting to like find their, what we felt like was find their groove. And so that is like, that's why to me, it's a little weird as the timing of when these were taken because they were, when they started, they when it opened um i think it was after that first bears game i think is when there is when it started november 2nd so it would have been well before that i guess before that never mind never mind yeah yeah and he's uh of all the things that we want him to do maybe he can do something about some of these things it's it's a very it's an interesting like it's an interesting point for him to say i mean he's already re-signed um the gm and the head coach which i still don't think are bad moves at all oh they were five two and one when it started and nine three and one when it when this closed so they were literally like quite literally on like the upswing like in good happy feel good times before everything came crushing down in denver uh so i think that is some interesting context but i mean for me the number one thing is i feel like getting a daycare system has got to be the easiest fix here out of all these things and obviously you have an opportunity to improve on that special teams coach score as well because that is now an opening um because head coach and oc are not going anywhere yet this is one thing i am curious about i mean are the other are the other like the the day the the the child care stuff is that on the grounds like are there sections within the stadium that we think they're like child care they drop the kids off or is it like somewhere in the area i legitimately don't know and so i was like is that something like they would build into lambo field or is that somewhere like nearby that'd be a child care thing you drop them off day of i i think the newer ones they might have like an maybe an in-house option perhaps i don't know i would assume that they have an in-house option for most of them just because it's at the stadium if it's game day and they're just like our kids are not going to stay still and like, or like we can't take care of five children and whatever. I would imagine they have someone on staff that they'd rather do it there, but I don't know, like if they just are like, Hey, can we rent out this day quick daycare every Sunday for a few months and like pay your staff? I don't, I mean, and I don't know. I just feels like an easy fix money wise. It's probably a lot of money, but for them, it's gotta be a drop of the bucket to me that and to me I think that's what's weird to me like I weirded out by that one that that has been an issue because I remember that being an issue since these grades started becoming public and I was hilarious for the team that like is always boasting about family day to not family night yeah it I think that one that one feels very unlike green bay for them to be one of the only few it's not just that they don't do it they are either the only one or one of like the few that don't I can tell you the Bengals don't right now I'll tell you yeah they definitely probably do not um so that one is feels like the easy fix um the OC I don't think that's happening anytime soon I don't think that's going to be an easy fix but knowing that the training room um the training staff is also another issue then we can move on like that's a weird one because they they got it from they they poached a guy from the Niners and they somehow have dealt with a ton of injuries this year and were pretty much like you could barely tell um I mean unless you looked at their defense but that just kind of an interesting thing that they got an assistant strength and conditioning coordinator. And it seems you certainly did not get the good twin or whatever they say. They say that right? Didn't get the bad seed. The bad seed. Sure. Yeah. So that like, are they going to do this again and completely gut all of this again? And this is also a careful what you wish for moment for fans because they have been banging on the table, screaming, crying, the strength and conditioning coaching staff, and they did. And, well, here we are. Any last thoughts before we move on on these NFL? Just bring up Peter Bukowski said he talked to someone, and they said it was the training staff. They said one of the big complaints, I guess, from the – I don't know who he talked to, one of the people he talked to. said it was like they kind of treat every injury as if it's the same injury they don't only have like specialized treatment for individuals which makes me which makes me laugh because I know that's not true on its face like I know that they can't be like well I think it's the same thing I just think like well I turned my ankle turning it off and on again yeah let me I've got to massage your bicep it's my ankle it's my ankle listen process is the process baby like I don't I don't know but that made me chuckle a little bit i think we need to amtute your hand it's my ankle acl all right all right surgery round up you're the doctor um it's like doctor got dr spaceman down there just uh spachemin 30 rock you know 30 rock no sorry sorry i felt pretty flat i I apologize. Edit that one too. Fix it in post. All right. Sounds good. Yeah. You know, I'm totally going to edit this. All right. Well, let's move on. This week, big week for my big city right here, Indianapolis. The combine is in town, which I will not be at. But yeah, they're downtown Indy eating shrimp cocktail at 7 a.m. getting ready to, you know, combine. I don't know. I don't know what to say. but you don't know what it is. I do know what it is. I don't know how to like, I don't know, but get ready to test. That sounds stupid. But yeah, there's, this is an exciting time for green Bay, especially because they do not have their first round draft pick. So, and we got some insight from Goot who kind of did a pretty in-depth ish interview this week while he was in Indy and made some comments, some interesting comments, But they have some some needs in on the team, particularly when it comes to depth. But Jen, I'm going to throw to you first. Who is on your like what is it like where where are you thinking that they are looking this week? Where do you think their attention is being directed at the company? Okay, so if I'm talking, like, from the heart, what I would like to see, I want us to, like, be... Give me an indication of whether I'm allowed to have any hope for Linderbaum. That's number one. um in in terms of actual like likely and reasonable goals um initially I thought this week would be really about um them evaluating cornerbacks because it seems pretty clear that that's a position that's going to get some investment um but I would actually say what I'm a little bit more interested now is the defensive line um so we had kind of spitballed recently about sweat obviously the news came out this morning he will not be a packer um the other thing that happened yeah the other thing that happened over the last week is um justice put together a list of free agents focusing on um you know ages that that meet the good test and uh his conclusion was defensive line in particular is one of the positions that um is unlikely to be addressed in free agency if the packers hold true to what they've normally done um we already saw last year like very few um defensive line guys actually hit the market um and it seems like similar this year like last year we were told it's a great class it's a deep class and then they just flew so if we're already at the point where we're looking and there doesn't seem to be anyone they're going to go after in free agency the class is good but you're picking pretty far down and I think it would take a lot for Goot to want to trade up having lost that first pick so um I think it's a really important week for evaluating that because we may be looking at a situation where um it's a position they want to invest in but to do so they have to move up and I don't know what the comfort level is going to be with that and um it feels like the last few years every offseason there's a battle between like two two groups of the fan base being like defensive line no cornerback and there's like a war over that every year and um you could certainly make the argument that the defensive line needs really needs some like top level talent injection but i'm not sure it's going to fall the way people want so that that's what i'm interested to see is like does do they see any guys that keep the path open to taking someone at 52 or does it look like um we're just going to be too far back from the guys that they would prioritize yeah it it's such a weird because it's already hard to even guess who's going to be there when they're in like the mid 20s or even low 20s but now that they don't have a first round pick like who's gonna be there at what 52 i think is their first pick like who's gonna like the the amount of combinations like that's like in a deck of cards they say that like every time like you shuffle a deck of cards the 52 cards it's like it's a brand new arrangement like of the cards because the chances of it being something that has ever been shuffled and arranged in that same way are like impossible so that's literally how this draft is with all of the combinations of 52 players I can go. And there's even more than 52 of them that are available. Like we have, we'll have absolutely no idea who's going to be available. So that makes it even harder to like, no, like you said, like it, the D lineman went all very, very quickly. And that usually is how it goes. People panic and they're like, Oh, this guy is not going to be there. So we need to like, at least grab this D lineman right now and corner. There's not a lot. Um, there never is of like, actually like starting corners coming out of the draft. So they're definitely not getting one of those guys because those are always in high demand. And I don't know if they like decide to move up or if they're going to try to move some stuff around. I just have no idea what they're going to do. I do not think that they're going to sit still on completely on day one, but maybe that's just wishful thinking. I just think they're in kind of, I don't want to say panic mode, but like they understand the urgency of trying to win. And if they need, they want something, they will go get it if they can get it at the right price. Dusty, what about you? What are you most intrigued by at the combine this week? There's a lot of positions where I think you can, you can grab guys for depth. Like at that spot, I don't know how many guys you want. Like, you know, day one starters, top end talent. Like you mentioned D-line, like those guys are probably going to be gone. but as far as like and even the way the packers are right now their top end talent i still think is pretty good that d-line could use some help but even the d-line help is like just give me a fat masher in the middle like i don't i don't need someone who is like an all-world whatever just give me a big dude that can just hold some guys at the point of attack like and hopefully fingers crossed he was bad last year but they drafted a guy like stackhouse to do that to hopefully like just a big dude that can learn technique and kind of do that brinson kind of started flashing towards the end of the year and he's a little smaller but you've got dudes i think can do something and so some of that is i mean the depth they're probably losing quay i assume they're not paying him maybe they will i don't know but even if they do pay him then it's mcduffie behind him so we look at linebacker there's quite a few linebackers i was looking i was just watching now as it's going um jacob artriguez out of texas tech is a guy who's pretty intriguing like a little smaller but fast like i think and that's just one of those just kind of a freak dude that you can throw in there like a top-end talent hopefully we can hit a little better because right now besides edge cooper and especially if quay leaves that a little they're a little light there corner you want to see him get something but again is that like at the at 52 or you think you're going to have like a top end starting corner there probably not so you probably need some depth there so i would look for i mean offensive line for sure they turn fifth rounders into starters but uh that the top end i think the starter the preferred starters on the offensive line assuming morgan is going to be your starting left tackle and assuming they bring rashaun ryan back I think it's fine I think you can improve there but I think it's fine the depth is abysmal though so I think you need to at some point that's not second round where you're looking offensive line where do we get depth you're looking linebacker can we grab a couple freaks hopefully one of those hits you're grabbing I mean same thing as corner grab some guy in the fifth grab some guy in the sixth that you kind of like just a freak athlete can he be a starter for us in two years like I don't know that you're getting a guy now that is going to be like we'll plug him in he's going to fix this thing that's not the way it works especially where they are right now but i think i think there's enough positions that they're okay at that you can use depth at tight end is another big one i mean you've got tucker craft and i think musgrave was musgrave's in his last year i don't think they'll resign him he was fine last year i think he finally started showing some of his downfield stuff he stayed on his feet a few times which is cool he's never going to be a lockdown blocker but like most guys are not like most tight ends across the league like also he popped that ball in the bears game by the way oh listen i was re-watching that the other day he 100 caught that ball that one why would you watch that well no the i'm sorry the the first one oh yeah well that's the one he dropped it but i still that that game was infuriating the evan williams nonsense and then and then the musgrave one no that would piss me off even though they come back game i would still have been they come back from commercial break into like incompletely evan williams one like brother that's the one thing i know it's not that's the one thing i know it's not everything out of my mind well a lot of times to be clear i've got a tv above my above my desk and so a lot of times at work i just have like old packers games running overhead so look up in the middle what is wrong with you and you're just like oh yeah i remember that heartbreaking trauma moment probably a lot aaron um but yeah at the tight end like you can you can improve there so i think there's different groups you can attack and like get some guys to hopefully do something for you down the line but i don't know with where they're at the way this has fallen i i don't know you're going to get guy in the round two that's like that fixes that position so it's really just yeah well some of that is too i'm curious about like what they've they've been doing this thing the past few years where they just spam a position what is that is that quarterback this where they grab like two or three guys is that quarterback this year is that linebacker this year is that offensive lineman or defensive lineman this year like you just grab we're gonna grab two we hope one of these guys is a top end starter by like his second year something like that they can like plug in so i they're gonna do that it's just they've got a handful positions i think they can look at that with so that's i'm looking for i think that's probably cornerback but i because it's supposed to be a somewhat deep class but i i mean those positions those like the cornerback getting of like those let's say skill positions because it's more offensive sign but those like more the the faster guys on the outside position on the defense those guys always go higher than you think like always go higher than i think unless it's a project and so they're not getting one of the good guys like one of the big guys in in the second round so they probably wait till maybe maybe five six they double up grab a couple cornerbacks your special teams dudes and then we hope one of you guys turns out and you can be a starter for us next year like that's that's probably the approach you're going to take we'll be right back yeah um thank you for naming just about every position to leave none for me um just doing my part it's like saying everything and saying nothing all it was right uh running back running back aaron honestly that is like that's the next one on my list because i was gonna say like tight end um because i do i do agree with because i like uh there was an interesting comment i think justice is the one that brought it to my attention um because justice is everywhere he uh brought up that like who kind of let it slip that they're looking for a middle linebacker which implies that they are moving to a three, four defense, which isn't a surprise because of Jonathan Gannon and how he has run defenses in the past, but that does change what they will like potentially what bodies they're looking at which there potentially some speculation that maybe that what rich Passaccia was like you know what I am not going to do this You guys don prioritize special teams players in general. And now we're going to go get a bunch of big bodied guys that I can't use. So no, thank you. I am good. But the linebacker, the middle linebacker position like that is one that they will be looking at. And I think part of the confusion and the difficulty here is we don't know who they are like who they have in their mind that they know they're cutting and they know they're resigning or even who they're 50 50 on like uh one that i think about is enigbare he has been really good i think he like for what he is i think he's been very good i think he has been reliable he hasn't had a ton of injuries and he has been he plays above his pay grade we'll say that and meanwhile you've got rashaun gary who play who has been playing below his play grid and you can't really cut him until after june 1st um but kind of said he wasn't sure what like he goot said all the right things because if they want to try to trade him he's going to say that we want him and so he said that like was saying next year implying that he's going to be on the team because i think that if goot has a plan to trade him he's not going to like let anyone know that. But like Enigbare, Quay Walker, you know, Sean Ryan, there's just guys that are up in the air that you feel like they could be 50-50 on. So there's a lot of, there's no holes on the surface, but then you start looking at like, oh, well, if they don't re-sign a center, that's a big, like if they don't re-sign Sean Ryan, like that's a big hole to fill. And they have struggled with finding a reliable center. So here we go again in this carousel. But I think one, like no joke aside running back I think they're gonna have to grab somebody and I don't know how high they're gonna be I don't think it'll be too high because they I just don't think that's a high enough priority for the immediate future but we don't know what's going on with Marshawn Lloyd and that has been like the big question mark is we don't know nobody nobody knows you know so it's that but I do think like it's not even just the Marshawn Lloyd thing it is thinking of the future with josh jacobs they are always thinking three to five years ahead and they're looking at josh jacobs has one more year on his contract my assumption is they try to extend him this off season i think he's got two but they've got to do something after oh right right yeah it's like a play like it definitely was at the end of this year it's like not like possible yeah he's not he's not playing on year four but technically right right fourth year right so like they are they're going to be thinking beyond that it does he did look like he slowed down a little bit However, the offensive line was not blocking very well for him. And on top of that, he was facing some injuries. So was that age or was that just the scenario? So this is going to be a big year for them. But if they have their feelings on the inside of what he is and is not going to be in a few years, they may be looking to pick someone up. So I think that one is an underrated thing that I'm like, I'm on. Don't be shocked. I'm very much like keep Chris Brooks for cheap. Keep Marshawn. Yes. Turn over the running back room. Like that's where I'm at. Get rid of Wilson. Wilson was good. Wilson's done. Jacob's like, you can cut him and save some money this year. Like, that's very much where I'm at. Wow. Yeah, I know. You're the reason we've got an A-minus for over. I'm the bad owner. I'm the bad owner. Too ruthless. Dusty Evely. Too mean. I mean, you're not alone. It's definitely out there. I mean, we'll see. like you know after the whole Aaron Jones thing like anything is possible and it it's really interesting how little um insight we've had into what we think are pretty obvious or expected cuts um like the Sean Ryan thing is just so fascinating to me because it's like it's it's sort of a no-brainer to re-sign him if he's affordable but like it just there have been a lot of reasons like it just doesn't seem like they're as committed to that as they should be maybe they just you know don't really want to sign guys that they don't think are like you know top level but then if you don't sign him like you know the options like that becomes like probably the most urgent position so um i guess we're gonna find out a lot soon but uh yeah like my thing is and we we talked about this recently is like i don't really believe anything good says about free agency he's pretty transparent about his draft intentions the stuff he says about draft priority tends to be um more accurate so it is interesting that he talked about the offensive line but you know that's something he talks about most years so um i i think they have a lot of questions right now on this roster and probably only one or two things they can address in free agency so the picture will become clearer once we start that and right now it just feels like it's really hard to tell what their priorities are going to also see you mentioned the free agency stuff i mean we're also we saw earlier today uh teller beadish the the washington center got released and so there's also going to be dudes on the market now who are going to be available that as of right now we don't know we're going to be available i mean ideally they plug those holes before they they released their center the charger center retired like there's been a lot of negative movement at that position already yeah yeah which is why like i feel more and more i mean but sean ryan's price then goes up for somebody that's just looking for like anybody like a stock gap like this is competent center play yeah yeah and that's you know it's the grass is not always greener where do you risk it and let him walk or and this will be what jordan loves like fourth center if they do not re-sign sean ryan this will be like his fourth center so that's not great either um the consistency unless they really like jacob monk which so far there's been no indications that they like jacob monk yeah um well the my last point is um that i do not think they'll be looking at quarterbacks because I do believe that Anthony Richardson will be making his way to Green Bay. I think Goot just was salivating at the idea that Anthony Richardson and the Colts are who've agreed to trade. And he said, great, another project I can flip for a comp pick because Malik Willis is like the number one free agent on the market because of his value as a quarterback. And he's going to be potentially getting like 30 million a year. so um i think goot is excited about the comp thing that i think i think i think he makes a call to indianapolis or he's in here so i guess he's going to be in the conversation aaron i'll tell you that yeah always always you know um yeah but that would i i would love that because it would i just love i want like the packers to be like oh yeah give us your broken quarterbacks we will fix them we will we'll make it all better um what do you guys think yay or nay on anthony richardson i think it'd be sweet i'd love it yeah i feel like there's a team that's gonna offer more than the packers would offer just because there's a number of teams just to keep him away from green bay yeah like it just um you know like we'll we'll see if Miami and Arizona are able to cut bait with their current quarterbacks in a way that suits them but they they may not have the money and like really it seems like Malik is like sort of in a class of his own in this free agency at that position so there's gonna be a bunch of teams who have a need and and not really any um great options to fill it so i just think at the end like you know how good is like he's like the value is the value like so if if he has in his mind like that guy's worth like you know a sixth the seventh and he's going for it's just going to be a non-starter so we'll see yeah and i think i mean i i to me miami like in all seriousness i feel like it's going to be miami because even if they can't get out of to his contract like anthony richardson is still on his rookie deal so he's a little bit cheaper than potentially like getting like they can't afford malik willis and i don't think there's any way they can get out from under two because i think he's like 50 million this year guaranteed like there's no way yeah there's no way unless someone is willing to take that on and i just don't think anybody is so like i think they're stuck with this year but i think they did say that they like i think john eric sullivan said that he's like yeah we're like we're okay with like waiting like if if this is not our year it'll be like we'll get out from under it next year and deal with it but to me it makes too much sense i got a quarterback on his rookie deal while you have this expensive quarterback if miami went from tua who couldn't stop getting injured to anthony richardson who also runs his head into everything like if those are the quarterbacks they have on their roster they're gonna have to have a real good q broke his face like in like like in warm-ups oh yeah yeah he had that i mean he's like just injured his shoulder because he's like running into dudes instead of running out of bounds like he just yeah he's never learned how to protect himself so he got two of those guys on the roster set him somewhere else for his own sake man. Not everybody is Gumby like Jordan Love. I need someone to just like treat Green Bay like a quarterback rehabilitation center. And like, all right, listen, we'll give you him for a sixth. But then some other teams like, listen, we'll give you a third form in two years. If you turn this around, you get this to get these bank stuff. It's an investment that you're making into the future. I know that'd be tampering, but the tampering happens anyway. So I just think that's, that's the way this should work out right because they have a legal tamping tampering period which i'm like why why not just make that the start of living here it was open it here yeah well they'll just tamper before that they're tampering before legal tampers because they're like oh yeah we'll just do it this many days sooner just dumb um all right well now that uh we've it's been nearly an hour um dusty thank you for joining us um despite being a little under the weather i made it through i did it i'm still upright i did it thank you for having us um anything you want to plug i've got call sheet series that i'm working on hopefully the second part will be up um i was hoping by this week and then the work blew up on me and my face blew up so probably not but next week i probably have some packing company where i'm doing uh first and 10 looking at the first and 10 stuff calls from the packers that worked this past year and we're going to build the call sheet out from there. So the first one's going to be first and 10. That's the biggest one. So we've got 22 plays in there. I'm diagramming all of them up, pulling up clips. It's always a bigger job than I think it's going to be like, oh, I can knock this out in two days. No, I cannot. No, I cannot. But I'm to the run section now. I'm almost there. But that'll be up in company next week, early next week, hopefully. Nice. Good stuff. Thank you. Jen, what about you? Anything to plug? Anybody just I'll take Jimmy's job and ask if you have anyone you want to threaten this week. I probably need to threaten Jimmy to get his ass back here. Yeah, it's brutal having to record with Dusty, isn't it? I know. Listen, I get it. I get it. It's fine. So I usually, like, really enjoy watching The Combine. But I will say not having a first really takes a lot of the allure out of it. Much more so than I thought it would. I am going to try and watch the cornerbacks because I'm interested to see how many guys will sort of fit the profile of size and speed and weight that the Packers like just to get a sense of how likely that is an option at pick 52. um probably just gonna watch the quarterbacks in the hope that some of them do really well and help push some guys down um but yeah other than that not too much combine stuff for me um i really hope this is the last time i have to talk about stanovich until september please please that's that's what we all hope for i tried my best you guys i really did try to like bury that but the universe had other brands. Yeah, just pulled you right back in. Yeah, you can find me occasionally over at Acme Packing Company and AKA also known in honor, honestly, as Clay Travis's least favorite sports journalism company. I think right there. Might as well be a bronze medal. Yeah. The third highest woke. That's correct. Might as well be a bronze medal. So yeah, you can catch me and Dusty over there and a lot of other great, crazy woke folks over at Acme Packing. So make sure you check that out. And just to piss Clay Travis off. So shout out, Clay Travis. And until next week, hopefully Jimmy's back. We'll see. You never know with him. It's a 50-50 shot at this point. And on that note, we'll see you next week. And go Pack Go. Go Pack Go. Go Pack Go. Thank you. We'll see you next week.
