They use real-time deep fake technology. They map that generated face over their own on the webcam feed and use AI voice cloning to match the persona perfectly. They sit through the interview, answering questions in real time, and trick the HR department into hiring a person who doesn't even exist. Wow, that is wild. So once they pass verification, the company just ships a corporate laptop to a drop address. Exactly. And they grant virtual private network access to this fake employee. The attacker gets immediate, authenticated access to the internal network without writing a single line of malicious code. This is why traditional network parameters are completely dead. Right, because of nearly 90% of major investigations. Identity weaknesses are the root cause. Attackers aren't breaking in by writing complex exploits to smash through a firewall anymore. But in the corporate software world, companies are basically handing over the master keys to every third party vendor they use. They might integrate a simple calendar app or an HR scheduling tool to make things run smoother, but they grant that simple app excessive permissions. Oh, I see. So if an attacker targets that small poorly defended calendar app and breaches it, they don't just get the calendar. Exactly. They inherit the master keys the app was holding. They can ride that trusted, authenticated connection straight into the heart of the primary network. And because the traffic looks like a normal automated software function, it blends in completely with daily operations. So the attacker uses that trusted integration to move laterally, escalate privileges and extract data totally bypassing traditional defenses, which severely limits the effectiveness of traditional siloed security teams. Right, because if AI is automating the attack and moving from initial access to data theft in just over an hour, human analysts cannot manually correlate the logs fast enough to spot the anomaly. Organizations have to use AI driven autonomous containment to defend themselves. You have to fight machine speed with machine speed. This requires treating identity governance not just as an IT task for the help desk, but as a top priority for the board of directors. The infrastructure must recognize abnormal identity behavior and quarantine the infected node instantly. The barrier between digital anxiety and physical reality has collapsed completely.
