Summary
Jay Valentine and Bobby Outside recap the Tank vs. Tyrese Verzuz battle, analyzing performances round-by-round, discussing staging, song selection, and memorable moments like the viral turtleneck segment. They evaluate both artists' vocal abilities, band performance, and overall production quality while highlighting the importance of live R&B music in the streaming era.
Insights
- Live vocal performance and authenticity remain critical differentiators in R&B entertainment, with both artists demonstrating genuine singing ability despite some production challenges
- Song selection strategy significantly impacts competitive performance outcomes—choosing deep cuts over established hits can undermine momentum and audience engagement
- Preparation and rehearsal directly correlate with performance confidence; lack of preparation (as evidenced by Bobby's experience) creates visible performance anxiety and technical issues
- Viral moments and entertainment value (turtleneck segment) can overshadow technical performance metrics and become the lasting cultural artifact of major events
- Production quality and sound engineering directly impact artist performance—poor monitor mixing and excessive band volume forced artists to compensate and reduced intimacy

This is an I Heart podcast. Guaranteed human. Ladies and gentlemen, I am Jay Valentine and this is the R&B Money podcast special edition. I see, I don't know if you see, because I see that I have on my original versus outfit from the first versus that I was part of that was. It was a wild one. Go look it up. So today we're going to tap into this latest versus tank verse Tyrese, the thriller and Manila. And y'all know, because y'all been in my comments about it, who I had to bring on to talk about this thing with me. My brother, your brother, we are not twins. Bobby outside in the building. What's up, dog? Amen. We, you know what? We're going to start, we're going to start this thing. Right. We're going to go round by round. We're going to start round by round. We're going to get to you. We're going to get to you. Boy. We have to. We have to do it. Hey, listen, but before we go round by round on the, you know, on the verses, let's just kind of give an overview, right? Of just the experience versus bro is a really cool thing. Shout out to to Swiss beats. Shout out to Timbaland. Shout out to Apple music. Yes. Shout out to complex. Ebro, like that, the whole thing that they got going over there is really dope, man. Because it's a real celebration of music. It's a good time. I don't, it's, it's, it's funny to me though, how it just turns into this combative thing. Like I get the competition. But why does it have to be toxic? I don't know why I got to be toxic. It was a little bit toxic. In a little? It was a very toxic moment. Some serious jazz and strong. Serious jazz. And I'm like, are we supposed to be brothers? Right. Right. There were some moments where I was in the backstage a little bit cringing, like, oh, shit. Did he say that? Yeah. Yeah. It was, it was, right? Like, so I think the, the whole, the whole purpose of it though, I think is the celebration of music. And to me, that's the greatest part. Amazing. Maybe, maybe it's just the entertainment value that, that throws in, you know, the toxic jabs and the different things. I'm not gonna lie, I was here for the comedy. There was a lot of comedy. Oh, no, it was a lot of comedy. On both sides. It's funny as shit. Yes. Like it was definitely funny. And I think it also, you get a chance to see the artist's personalities. Yup. Right. Outside of just the music, which I thought was cool. It makes it more intimate. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, everything, listen. Top notch. Top notch. Everything within, within the Apple system, within what they're doing over at Versus. They show was ran really well. And it was G-Fy, G-Fy classified. Oh yeah. You could not get in. I barely had a ticket. I want you all to know that. I barely had a ticket. You know, I ain't saying no names, but it's some people that got kicked out. Just some people that didn't get in. It's definitely some people that didn't get in, but it was some people that got kicked out. It was some people that literally, people got snuck them in. And it's like, yeah, yeah, I'm gonna see your wristband. Really? I'm gonna see where your name is on this list. No. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't like to. I saw some people standing outside. You know how you be at the club on the phone? Yeah. I saw people doing that in that day. That was a real thing. You know what I mean? They wasn't, they wasn't moving forward. They wasn't. I don't think they ever got in. Yeah. Yeah. I remember the homies I know got kicked out the park a lot. Damn. Yeah, it was, it was, it was tricky. It was, it was tricky. It was tricky. People wanted to be there. Yeah. But that's the thing though. People wanted to be there. People wanted to be a part of it. I don't think they should have let any man in. If you weren't performing or working, I don't think you should have got in. That was my one critique of the crowd. Okay. Right? Because I looked out and I was like, it's niggas in here. Right. I thought this was ladies only. Ladies only. Right. Right. There's niggas in here. Right. It was, it was a few too many. Right. Yeah. Hey, but the ladies was giving that energy. They was giving that energy, but it was niggas in there. It was. And I'm like, it ain't supposed to be. No. Because you know, the shirt I wore was for the ladies only. Was for the ladies only. So I'm like, there shouldn't be no niggas in here. Right. So that was my critique of, of, I don't know how, you know, how the niggas got in there. That, it doesn't like, y'all weren't supposed to be there. If y'all were supposed to be backstage, y'all working, y'all doing, what y'all doing with that? Cool. But like, in that crowd, I thought it should have only been ladies. Right. You don't want to be singing to no dudes. No. Yeah. Ladies only. I'm with you. Ladies only. I'm with you. But, all right, let's, let's, let's get into the show, man. Let's get into the show. So first round. Now let's see what, so first round, Tank came out first. Yeah. Tank came out first. Tank kicked it off with a. Wait, can I ask you a question? Who were the hosts? I don't know. Okay. So that was my first issue. Just so you know, since we're starting from the beginning, they were reading from their phones. We can we get a teller prom through like, again, this is Apple versus. Okay. I just felt like it should have been way more professional than that. They was reading from their phones like they didn't, if you're reading from your phones, I don't need my phone or anything to tell somebody who Tank in Tyrese is. If you really know your R&B history. Okay. You know what I mean? So I had a kind of an issue with that. The energy was very low, which you know, very low, which I'm an energy guy. So I'm watching them. Clearly. I'm like, yo, like, you know what I mean? Fired this shit up. We need pennies on the stage. Yeah. You know what I mean? That type of energy. Yes. So I'm screaming. I'm pretty much say it then. Okay. Because I didn't know you was going to bring that up, but the Valentine should have been the host. Oh yeah. And Bobby outside. Fuck is we doing? Okay. And Bobby outside. Hosts with the most is. We could have hosted that thing. You know what I'm saying? And if y'all, if y'all ever figure out how to do this boys to me and Jodicy. Let me and J host that shit, man. Me and Bobby outside got to be the host. Oh shit. You know what I mean? Let us host it. Let me turn that thing up. I'm going to give y'all the body roll again. You might not get hired. Okay. Too early. My bad. Too early. I'm sorry. Too soon. I hate too soon. Okay. Sorry. You know what? Okay. Let me, let me, let me get back. I'm, I'm getting discapabulated like Tyrese. And he let me us turn on that. Y'all just gotta wait. Just gotta wait. Okay. So so first round. Okay. So jump into it. Tank started off with sex love and pain slash I can't make you love me. What'd you think? Sex love and pain. Yes. I can't make you love me. No. I'm a tell you what. I felt like I can't make you love me should have been later. I agree. And yeah. Because I wouldn't when you come out. I wouldn't when slow for slow either. Yeah. Yeah. And um. And I might have went sex, love, and pain into a tempo record. And to either like, I don't know how the mix would be, but like, I don't either celebration. Or, you know what I'm saying? Like, I don't know how I would have mixed into, into birthday. But you know, something, something, you know, He didn't do that. Huh. Holy shit. He didn't do birthday. Right. So I felt, I felt like, I felt like the piano moment should have been a full piano moment. Other than just a little bit to me. No, you're 100 percent. But great records. And then Tyrese came out with, what do you like? Crazy. And pulling me back with Chinggy. Crazy. Shout out to Chinggy. Chinggy did his thing. Chinggy killed. Chinggy did his thing. Yes. Chinggy was about his business. Yes. I felt like Tyrese won round one. Tyrese whacked him in round one. And I'm going to tell you how we know, Jay. How do we know? The babies never lie. What? You had your babies? I was watching it this morning again. You know, Jay, we do our homework, you know? We stay on top of my day. Yeah, homework with the toddlers. She loves her daddy. She's sitting there with me. She loves music. Okay. All right. And she, I said, you got to watch Uncle Tank, you know, and I got a little surprise for you because I want her to see me pop out like a, you know, like the jack in the box. Like a damn fool. Crazy man. Yeah. So, Tank does his thing. She's watching. Okay. Okay. Tyrese goes on her who she does not know it all. She looked at me. She said, daddy, he's cooking. She said, well, well, he won that round. So I think. I agree. That round, I'm giving that to Tyrese. Wipe the floor with him in round one. I'm giving that to Tyrese. But the one thing that caught my attention in that first round was Tyrese talking to the sound man. Can't do it. Can't do it. I'm like, ah, I almost made them lose the round. Right. Because I'm like, Rhys, you've already soundchecked to me with live shows. And this is from a manager standpoint when I used to be a manager, right? Someone has to be by the sound booth. Someone got to be by the sound booth. Is that in case you have to slap the sound man? Maybe. But no, you should never slap the sound man. But no, someone should be there so that you can signal this. Like if you can't hear, turn this up, monitor, point to the monitor, something. So now the person next to them can translate that to them because they're supposed to be watching you. Somebody should be at the sound booth watching you outside of the sound man. Because the sound man is here. They're trying to, you know what I'm saying? And they hear and they hear and they're trying to figure it out. But someone from your team, in my opinion, should be at that sound booth saying, hey, he can't really hear. He can't hear. He need a little more crowd. He need a little more, you know what I'm saying? Whatever it is, that is relaying that back and forth so that you don't have to say, hey, sound man, turn my music up. Or it's going to be a problem. What? No, bro. No. It's not a rap show. It's not baby boy. You know what I'm saying? Like, come on, come on, Jody. Come on, Jody, stop. Jody, you got the round. Jody, stop. Right? So to me, that first round was like musically, energy-wise. I feel like Tyree's won that first round. That's a good point. Tyree's brought the energy in that first round. He brought energy first round. He brought energy first round. The crowd control, all of that was perfect. Somewhere he got his So So Def jacket from. That was fire. Let's talk about that a little bit. That was his best outfit, except for the, he had 1,000 Mr. T chains on. Did you see how many chains he had on? He had a lot of chains on. But that was, I don't think that's the best outfit. To me, that was his best outfit. Not to me. Because the other outfits he had on, he had on like Luther Van Dros jackets. I don't know what that was. I don't agree though, because I think it's R&B music. It is. And it's nothing wrong with having a Luther Van Dros jacket. You like the Luther Van Dros jacket? Because Luther Van Dros is Luther motherfucking Van Dros. Okay, but Tyree's saying Luther Van Dros. Tyree's the R&B superstar. He is. To me, and even getting into that like the fit check and the clothes. Tyree's like R&B singer. You know what I'm saying? Like he came out on some more hip hop shit. But those are all R&B outfits. Smoking jackets. All that, bow ties. Like that's all, those are R&B outfits. You know what I mean? Over the years, and I feel like he just went through a plethora of them. He, I think he had five outfit chains. He was quite a few. Yeah, he had like five outfit chains. So to me, first round go to Reese. Yep, I agree. All right, so now second round. Yeah. Tank comes out in tank fashion being a great host. He's like, oh, that's where you're going to start? Well, you know, I like to take it slow. So now he's introducing, you know what I mean? You know what's coming. You know what's coming. So Tank starts off with slow. I walk my ass out there and do my part. Yeah. And listen, for me, this is just me personally. If I'm going to sing, if I'm going to go and perform anywhere, I take my shit serious. Yeah. That's just who I am. Yeah. Right? So I feel like I just came out and did my job. You know what I mean? Like, I see the comments. I see different people. Oh, to me, I just did what I expect me to do. You know what I mean? Which is come out and do my fucking job. And you know what I mean? Like I went to soundcheck. You know what I mean? I have my in ears with me. Yeah. That's a key thing in ears. In ears are important. In ears are important, Bob. I want to give flowers to my brother too. You sound, bro, I watched it again. You sounded fucking amazing. Thank you, bro. Thank you. So, I'm going to give you guys a little context on this because you may not know. Me and J were in a boy band. Boy band guys don't usually do this kind of singing. Like over the years, this nigga has become a really, really good singer. I'm being honest with you, bro. I call him the ghetto baby face. He cooks, tone sweet, falsetto sweet. You didn't miss a note. Appreciate that. You know how to tell the truth. Thank you. We're going to get to that truth. Yeah, we're going to get to that truth. I want nigga amazing and professional. You know what I'm saying? No, that's the thing. So, like, you know, because then I have some people like, oh, everybody else wants the other size of... Listen, this is what I was also told. They were like, you're not going to be able to hear if you move over toward this side. So my thing is like, I got to be able to hear. So listen, I'm... Right, why don't you walk around more? Yeah, I'm focused on what I'm focused on. You know what I mean? And the other thing for me, I'm always mindful that it ain't my show. I'm there for support. I'm there to assist. Right? So in my mind, I'm like, no, I'm coming to do my thing. Yeah. I'm like, I'm going to do my little 45 seconds and let me help. And poof, I'm gone. Poof, I'm gone. And as I'm walking off, hey, thank you, this shit. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah. So for me... But then what do you think about how it went into slowly? So I felt like slowly should have been longer. Okay. Did you like the transition? Yes, I did. I liked the transition. I thought slowly should have been longer because... But obviously anybody that has watched this show, has watched me ever speak about that song. Yeah, it's my favorite song of Tanks and one of my favorite songs of all time. I really, really love slowly, bro. Like what him and J.Dubb did with that record is incredible in my opinion. I actually think you should have done a verse of it. Yeah, it's that good. I wish... But I love where it rose up to for sure, going from one to the other. But I just... I'm like, damn, I love this song so much. I wanted more of slowly. I mean, slowly. I mean, slowly. Yes, shit. And now for Tanks. Yeah, it shows his ability to be a musician. Yes. And to me, that's what stood out a lot in his verses is that's like some guys can go in the studio, they can sing songs, other people wrote all these other things. But it's hard to switch on the drop of a dime. Yeah. But you're not a musician. He's a musician. Yeah. He can do anything. It doesn't matter. You know what I'm saying? Like, and that's kind of more and more when I got as I watched it, like he's just... He's a musician. Right. He can switch keys. It could, you know what I'm saying? It could modulate. It could... It don't matter what it does for him. Yeah. And so for him to be able to mix songs like that, right? Man, you got to be special to do shit like that. You can't be basically a robot as an artist. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like where you have to stay on the track or you have to... You... It's going to be tough going against him if that's the case. Right. Right. And then Tyrese came out and his second round was Stay. Which he merged into... He said it was two and one. I heard that. So I'm like, okay, Tyrese, I'm only doing one song now. And I'm like, that's tricky. Because for me, like, I like the theatrics, right? The fake cigarette. I don't know if it was a cigarette fake. No, it was smoking for real. I think it was real cigarette. That shit was dope. Real cigarette. So I liked the theatrics. I liked the theatrics. That shit was fire. Tyrese is an amazing actor. Yes. You know what I mean? So he knows how to jump into character. Speaking of, could they have put some of that behind him? What do you mean? Do those screens... Would those screens able to switch and show videos and do different things? I'm sure they probably could have. I don't know. The reason why I say that is because if I'm Tyrese, I add all that. I would add all that shit behind him. All my superstar shit. All my superstar shit. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like you're going four brothers, you're going fast and furious, you're going... Some of the videos when nigga used to have six abs, eight abs, I'm sure, all that. Yeah. Man. Right now, yeah. Because it's a visual thing. Right. That I think would have been good behind some of them songs. That's Apple. I'm pretty sure they had that computer in the back there. Okay. So I think they missed that. That would have been dope. And just for you to say, I thought you mean he did two songs in the one song. He counted the one song as two songs. Yeah. Because he sang it one, two different ways. Yeah. Oh. That was all stay. Okay. That was all stay. All right. So I'm going one. I'm like, Reese, what the fuck, bro? Because what I was told to me initially was that it was going to be two, two, two. You know what I mean? That's how it was going to go. So stay, I love, but stay can't compete with slow and slowly. Right. Not at all. Not at all. Nope. Yeah. So round of tank. For me, that's where the shit started. Yeah. Okay. So you jumped it off in the beginning. Right. Where are we going now, Tyrese? Yeah. At first I didn't understand why they had couches on the stage, but then I looked in Tyrese hat, people on his couches. Yeah. Girl, yeah. Her homegirls. Yeah. He was having an R&B lounge moment. He was having an R&B lounge moment. So I was like, okay. Yeah. I ain't mad at that. But I felt like as time went on, they were enjoying tanks performance a little more. I was watching your face too. That's the only thing. The only thing I think he didn't think about. Right. Like, okay. I was even watching his girl's face. She was enjoying it too. Yeah. Because listen, it's great music. But if you're putting them there, I don't know. Okay. So if it's you, do you have the conversation of like, listen, y'all act like this nigga weak when he's saying. And y'all only cheer for me. Stone face. Stone face. When I say he bring Michael Jackson out here. Y'all act like y'all don't see him. Hell, yeah. Is that the conversation, you know? That's the conversation. I definitely have an hour. You on, mm? Hey, hey, hey, hey, head down. Ah! Head down. That's what's cute. What's up with the shoes? So, all right, so next round. All right, we going next round. Second round of tank. Second round of tank. So now we one to one. Yep. Tank goes for a throttle. He starts that motherfucker off with fucking with me to win we. I was like, oh shit. Because personally, I think those songs are too early. Way too early. Way too early. I think those songs are too early. I agree. I think me, I probably would have went maybe a heartbreaker, maybe an emergency. Yep. Yep. On the earlier rounds. Because I even felt like our segment was really early. But it worked because it combated him bringing out Chingi. Yeah. I would say this too. I would have wanted him to do kind of how y'all do the show. Like the show has up temple moments. It has the piano moment. And then it's got the live moments. To me, even though he whooped his ass, it felt a little bit all over the place. It didn't feel like the structure you guys have when you do the arenas and you do all the stuff. You know what I mean? The stuff that people expect from Tank, honestly. So, yeah, for me, it was just, I thought that was way early for those songs too. Yeah, but those songs are what they are, fucking with me until when we is. Yeah, it's crazy. It's insane. That's the crazy combo. I would say which is known in those parts. Broke up his shirt on. Don't understand that either. I didn't understand that play. Yeah. It's 200 million people watching. How many? 200, though. That's what I heard. I don't know. Niggas might have just told me that never I could have made that pop. So, I'm gonna say, y'all know I have my little moment. If I were to know it's 200 million people, I might have took my pants off. What? Yeah, I might have jumped the speaker. I'm gonna go to jail, man. For 200 million, I'll go to jail, okay? I definitely would have took my shirt off. 100%. I thought it was only 700,000. You know what I'm saying? Hey, man. You a sick dude, bro. Alright, so Tank does those two. I think we both agree. Bro, like nigga, get your shit off, you fucking tank. That motherfucker shirt right off. You're the black chippin' dick. You better have to hit a small set of 25 in front of the crowd. Small set. In front of the crowd. They're doing crazy. What's all the workin' out for, Tank? I might hit 100 straight in front of the crowd. That's what I'm known for. Hundo. Right. Y'all count them out for me. Y'all count with me. Count with me. Count with me. Count with me. That's some shit D-Lo would have said. You know what I mean? Count it with me. What Tyree's trying to come up with after that? Tyree's followed that up with Morning After. I don't know that song. I've never heard that song a day in my life. I don't know that song. And that was my frustration a little bit with this also. Like, I know I be music. I do too. And so if you do a song on verses that I've never heard in my life, and I know some Tyree songs. I know songs, you know what I mean? Tyree's got some lashes. That's not a song you should be doing. So I think that's where the discombobulation started, bro. Honestly. Like, I think when he'd hit fuck with me and when we back to back like that, I think it fucked his mind up a little bit. So maybe that was the plan then. To come around like that, to fuck his head up? Maybe. Okay. But that went into, he saved himself with Signs of Love, man. Okay. Yeah. Saved himself. He saved himself. Still lost around. He definitely lost around. I whacked. He lost around. He lost that round. So yeah, he lost that round. Next. Tank. Wait, no, keep the score, Jack, because you know there's a lot of Tyree fans out here. Where we at? We're three to one. We three to one. Okay. We three to one. Okay. Next. Under. So. I'm gonna give my back three first. You go ahead, give me a back three first. So. I walk in. They already partying backstage by the time I get there. It's already a celebration. This is before the versus starts. It's a celebration. We all have it. You gotta say that like with James in there. It's a celebration. Celebration. It's couches and everything, right? So. Couches and everything. When I go, I take my seat. All I hear is Bob say, you know I'm singing tonight. No, no, remember you was getting your tea. Oh yeah, no, yeah. Oh, better yet. I'm getting my tea because I gotta, I gotta prepare. This is how you found out. You know what I mean? For my 45 seconds, I'm preparing, you know what I mean? I got hot tea. Lemon and honey. And no, that's what I hear. I hear Bob say, make me whatever you making. I need one too. Why? What you need three more? I'm singing tonight. I said, you are? Did you practice? Yeah, I practiced. Everybody in the room said that. Thanks, why I said Bob singing. Yeah, I'm singing. See, yeah. Bob, what are you singing? I'm gonna do under. We wrote it. I'm like, yeah, you did. Yeah. Do you know it? It's wrote that song. What? 15 11 years ago. 11. Okay. It niggard. No, it's more than that. That's a hundred years ago, man. Like that's like 2009. It's a really long time ago. Yeah. So I don't think I've heard the song since then either. In my mind, I'm thinking to myself, I'm already thinking this. Ain't no way in the world he remembers these lyrics. This is no, it's just, it's no way. Niggard asked me to sing a song I wrote for someone else that I've never sang. I don't know the words. I cannot remember the words to these songs. Unless. I practice. Because as Ron Newt used to tell us, practice makes perfect. So now I'm going to let Bobby outside explain this whole understanding. Michael Jackson also told us that as well. Okay. So let's get to it, ladies and gentlemen. Let's get to it. So. Elephant in the room. Yeah. Yeah. Let's get to the elephant. He's big as fuck. So. Okay. Okay. Come on. I hit him. You know, J-Know, I was hitting it. He's like, yo, what's up with the verses? Where I'm at? When my ticket out, what's going on? J-Know, my energy B.J. Be pissed, right? He's like, bro, I ain't got shit to do with it. So I hit Lulu. Lulu, what's up with my ticket? Bobby got to be in the fucking building. Oh, the tank that is like tight. It's Apple. But he giving me all that. I hit tank. Tank, what the fuck? Where's my tickets? Right? So he, two days go by, know nothing. Quiet, right? Then he hit me. I got you, bro. You good, right? All right. Get to tell Lulu. So I send Lulu the face message. Nigga, they go with tank said nigga. They go my tickets, right? I'm good, right? This the day before, the night of, the night before it, tank hit me at 1150. Bro, tickets got tricky. They, they, I'm giving you all of it, J-Know. Basically, I don't got a ticket no more, right? So now the morning come. I'm pissed. So you know what I'm doing? I hit tank, I brought so, because he's like, we gonna get there and we try to wiggle it out. We try, you know, you know, we do. I don't like that at all. Fuck that. Right? So I'm hitting him. It's like maybe 10 o'clock. I'm like, y'all, so what time? If it's gonna happen, like what, this is my energy. What, if it's gonna happen, what time will it be? Right? So tanks like maybe like, we should know like one or two. Then now I'm hitting Lulu. Lulu, what the fuck, bro? What's up with my tickets? Lulu goes, okay, Bob, let me work something out. This is God. I want you all to know that. This is a God thing. Lulu hits me back in 30 minutes. Pleasure P ain't coming. You can have Pleasure P tickets. This is how it starts, Jay. You can have Pleasure P's ticket. I'm like, all right, bet. All right. I got a suit on. I look like I'm going to church. I have a full, I work. I got a job. Yeah. I have a real suit on right now. Corporate Bobby. Corporate, I'm in corporate mode, Jay. Yeah. I got, I manage shit. You know what I'm saying? And so we go to lunch, me, wifey and Chloe. I'm like, oh, I'm going to go to the thing later. It's going to be cool, whatever. Tank calls me at two o'clock. Bob, you want to sing tonight? You went from not getting in. This is what I wanted you to know. I went from not getting in, Jay. To P's tickets to P's part. Yes. I don't know. Listen, listen, listen. Just so y'all know, I've been out of the management room for a couple of years. I don't know none of this shit. I don't know what's going on. I, yeah, yeah. Okay, wait, listen. So this is what happens. He goes, you want to sing tonight? I'm like, huh? He like, he like, yeah, P not coming, which I already knew. He's like, you sing the second verse of the song we wrote. Hunder, you know it? Nope. Nope. I don't know it. You don't know it either. Watch this. You want to sing it? Yep. What? Fuck yeah. What do you mean no? So right at that, no, no, no, no. Let me finish. Let me finish. I pause because right at that moment I'm thinking, you don't know the song, but do you want to be on that stage? Do you want to go grab your moment, Bobby? That's what I was thinking, Jay. So my gut was like, say no, fucking say no, right? But there's an animal in me. Rubens over there, Jay's over here, Bob. Who you talking to? Ruben, he talking to me. Who you talking to? There's an animal in me that always says, fuck it. Let's be fearless. Right? So I say, yeah. Right? Yeah, tank. Yep. Let's do it. Right? So now I'm on the show. I don't get off. Let's start this. I don't get off till five o'clock. Get off work? Huh? Man. I don't know the words. I don't know the melody and I don't have an outfit. Okay. So I run in there. I hit my manager. Yo, I got to be somewhere at three. I need to leave. Okay. You know how LA is, right? Trying to get somewhere in LA. So now I'm trying to figure my life out about this outfit while I'm in the car trying to learn the song. This is what's happening, Jay. I'm giving it all to you, right? So I'm like, okay, the shit is in Culver City. Oh, I should, yeah, I work by Merrill's. I'm like, I can go get that shit on Merrill's, but fuck, it's going to be too many stores. Can't figure it out quick enough. Right? So I'm like, it's got to be a mall move. So I hit Fox Hill. Fox Hill is fucking trash. They don't even have a Zara jam. I'm like, it's not even called Fox Hill, though. I don't know what the fuck it's called. Westfield, Jay. So, so I'm like, they got to have a Zara, right? That's my move. I usually can go and bust a move real quick, right? Get some rock stars, shit. I hit Tank, what's the vibes? Joe to see Lenny Kravitz. I'm like, bet. That's what he told me. That's what he said the vibes were. It's too hard. That's what he told me. Okay, all right. So, so look, guess what store I found, Jay? You know how you go into malls and you find a store with a drug dealer shop? What did they do? What all the expensive shit is, Jay? What they have, the Gucci glasses, they have the Jordan's for $4.50. They have the expensive jeans, you know where the baller niggas go and drop 10 grand. That's where I went, Jay. I found it. So I go in there and I get a guy out. You want to shout the store out or not? I don't know what the fuck the name of the store was, Jay. I go in, I'm telling you how I got lucky. I go in there, there's a guy in there. I always get me a personal shopper, by the way, when I go, because I need to do it quick. Because I'm going to spend money, Jay. I need them to help me. Personal shopper. I need this. I need that. That's a lot of shit. That's what I told them. Right? Let's find the jeans first. I found some jeans. I have some cool studs on them. I'm like, yes. Let's do it. How much them got? Holy shit. Right? Then I found my little studded little Beverly Hills guy. I was like, oh, that shit is fire. Right? So I'm putting all the show in the dressing room. I ain't got no shoes. I'm like, oh fuck. Like is it boots? What is it? Right? He got the jewellers. I'm like, how much is a hose? I just said $4.50. I said fuck. Okay give me those. Spin a G ball in like 10 minutes. Because I need to get the fuck out of here. But now I ain't got no haircut. I ain't got, you know how we don't, you know what I mean? I need to get. Now we, cause you don't do this kind of shit. You did the shit. So don't put me in this. I'm not going nowhere without it. All right. So they say, I said, is there anybody anywhere around here that could line me up real quick? You in the mall? By the way, yes. By the way, right now it's already 415. So I got about 10 minutes, I'm thinking. Cause I went where it was close. I was already in Culver City, right? I still don't know where I'm going to. So I go upstairs, it was actually, it's brothers in there. I was trying to just get a little lineup. You got to sit down and I'm like, fuck. I can't, I don't got to sit down in time. I bounce. So now I'm back in the car trying to figure it out. Trying to figure out these lyrics, trying to figure out this melody, right? And I'm in the car, I'm like, oh yeah, this is going to be all right. I'm going to be all right. Whole time I'm there, I'm doing it, doing it, doing it, doing it, doing it. Dude, as soon as I walked up, but not as soon as I put the phone down and walked up, I forgot all the words. That's how quick it happened. I think it must have been nerves, had to be. I'm about to tell you though. You know why you forgot the word? Why? Because you went in the party mode. By the time I got there, you were already having a good time. I would have stayed away from everybody and learned my shit. If I got to go to the bathroom by myself and sing it over and over and over and over again, you ain't enjoying the festivities. Okay. So now let's get to, we got all the background shit. So I walk up on the stage. Okay, now you on stage. He calls me out. You feel that little feeling in your stomach when you're about to go? You get little butterflies and shit and all the words left my brain. You still get butterflies? Yes, of course. I'm scared, but I'm still gonna do it. I want you all to know, I got all this energy and I got zero fucks given, but I'd be scared. That's just the truth. All right, so now. I have no in ears. I have no in ears. You were monitor. Yeah, monitor. And you can hear, he had a plan for P-Plan under. That's another thing that can also throw you off. Like if it's something else happening under, because you have to kind of be synced with that sorta, right? So, but it did help me with the words a little bit. So, cause I would jump in where I knew it. That's what was kind of happening. Come out. I didn't think you'd do any of that. Mumbling and shit. Yeah, yeah. So I started mumbling a little bit. I would try to jump in on the parts I knew, which is why the notes were tricky. Cause if you can't know the words, you first short on notability, right? So the notes were fucking tricky. I am pissed at me for the train wreck of the beginning of what that was. I'm not gonna lie to you. But what I love about me, and Jay will tell you this, no matter fucking what I'm gonna perform. And what I decided at the moment when it was becoming a train wreck is, we must turn this motherfucker around. So you know what I did, Jay? What did you do about it? I gave him a big note and a body roll, Jay. I gave him the big note cause I can go up top and then I hit him with the body roll. I don't know if it's a big note record. It doesn't matter. You gotta do it, Jay. I have a big voice. That's the problem with the verses. It's too little for me. I have a big voice, Jay. Some niggas are, some mashing us. Verses was too little. No, no, no, not the verses. No, not the, not the, not the verses. The verse of the song, Jay, you fucker. So what I'm talking about is, okay, so let's talk about music. There are verse singers, right? Like a Sean Stockman is a really good verse singer. Hey, Vau, fuck all that. No, can I just say, I'm gonna be. I had to go be. Okay, so I had to go be. So I went be, I gave him the body roll, Jay. Then I said, I'm gonna tell him to scream too, right? I wanna see what I'm working with them. Check the temperature, right? I need y'all to scream. They gave me a little bit there, right? So then I get, then I really get out there. I start looking at this one girl on her face, right? And I'm like, ooh, but I know that. I know the hook though. I'm gonna get him on the hook. Let's get him on the hook. I haven't given up is what I'm saying, Jay. That's when he's telling me to cut the music. Did you tell me this? No, they did that on their own. They sure ain't get you out of there. I think they were trying to get me out of there, Jay. Ah, they're trying to get you out of there. They were trying to get me out of there. You know how the awards, when the music starts playing, they did the opposite to me. They cut the music. Your time's over, buddy. But guess what? So this is where me and Jay are different. I give zero fucks. When I'm on the stage, it's my show. It's the Bobby show. And I'm gonna walk up there and get everything I came for. And I did. I gave them that, they sang it with me. I said, oh yeah, we rocking now. And then wait, I gotta tell you what, pump me up even more. Cause you know when I walked off, I was like, fuck. Man, I should have did more. I mean, I was like, damn, I don't know the fucking words. Horrible, right? Pissed. And then Jamie Foxx came down and gave me all the life I need. I don't care what anyone else says. Jamie motherfucking Foxx, I was sitting there feeling a little bit bad about myself. I'm not gonna lie. And Jamie came and said, nigga, you was the best shit I seen all night. You know why? Cause you had fun, Bob. You had fun. I did. I didn't have fun going home. I'm like, oh, I too. I listened to it going home, Jack. I saw the things I was cringing. I was cringing. I couldn't even sleep. I said, that was some bullshit. I said, maybe I'm not meant to sing or be. They was at me. I'm gonna come get your brother. So you comments, let's talk to you comments. Drunk, drunk uncle. I'll be inside. I'll be inside. Nigga can't sing at all. I feel y'all. I'm not even going, hey, if I saw me. I would say the same shit. Who drunk karaoke uncle is this? That's what I would say. So I'm not even mad at y'all. Jay's right. I should have been prepared. Maybe I should have said no. I wanted to, I wanted to, I wanted to sing. Are you crying? Oh my God. I also want to say, Tyrese must love this nigga because it's nice to see what it got all stayed. You want to win in? I would have let this nigga. What you want to say? Who is that nigga? Why? Even though I know you. Oh man. Oh bro. So yeah, you know, we, I mean I gotta tell the truth about myself. It was not good. You have to. It was not good. No, no, no, no, no. Play as fuck up. It just is what it is. It's part of the game, right? I advise now. Post advise is nigga, just say no. Just say no. So the main dollar question is, if I had to do it over again, would I say yes again? Yeah. Fucking loopy. But you were rehearsed, right? I did rehearse. The nerves got me. That did. Oh, you mean like more rehearsed? Yeah, what you name wasn't rehearsed so far. Oh, okay, cool, okay. It wasn't rehearsed so far. All right, all right. Ten thousand dollars, dawg. You gotta go. I need ten thousand more hours then. All right, so the body outside was under. We got through that. Because now at this point, did they take a singing no more? Nope. They take it's like, man, I ain't singing. And I'm about to go on a run of everybody else singing. But we're going to get to that. Nothing on you, which is another song I don't really know. I don't know that one either. I know it, but not like. It's an album cut. It's an album cut. That was my problem. He did too many album cuts. Yeah. Way too many. In that environment, you gotta figure out the hits. Yeah. Ain't that what that shit's about? I felt like Reese got underdog happy. He started doing all his underdog songs. All his underdog songs. He got underdog happy. And then he went into dumb shit and cut it off. So I'm like, he kind of just conceded the round. He did. He laid the fucking white flag. Yeah, like in that round, like, okay, well, Bobby outside just pulled the Bobby inside so now you gotta go and whoop these niggas because obviously y'all said wasn't prepared. No. That round was an opening to be like, oh, they bullshit. They just fucking around. 100%. 100%. You know what I'm saying? So let me whoop that ass. Let me whoop that ass. He did not. Got mad at the sound man a little more. Yep. And then he cut off dumb shit because he like my outfit don't match this type of song. And when the tank, you can have my minutes. You can have my minutes. You think at any time minutes, we did some motherfucking cell phone? 200 million people watching you giving up minutes. You can't have my minutes. You can't have my minutes. No, no, no, no, no. I got my minutes. You can't have my minutes or my cornbread. I'm not giving you neither one. So he gave up that round. Yep. So, Bob, you won the round. Hey, me and my body roll, I'ma say that, Jay. I think my body roll fucked his head up. There was about four or five things that got him discombobulating. I think when I did the body roll and the women was filling my light skin, he could keep us talking all that chocolate shit. Light skin niggas ain't never went out. We cook. Take know what he was doing with Bob and Jay. Man, don't throw me in. You love skin. Little bullshit, okay? Don't throw me in your. You know what he was doing. Hey, y'all bullshit, I ain't got nothing to do with me. It's another bullshit. Even niggas threw me in y'all bullshit. Yeah, of course you did, you're my brother. I am. I am. I'ma stick this out. So we whooped him. We whooped him. All right, so next round. When he went to under, now he went into his what I wrote segment. I think it should have been introduced differently. I felt like his what I wrote should have been introduced differently. I actually think it should have been more of a medley. Okay. Meaning that it should have all flowed into each other. It should have just been a segment. Yep, I agree. I thought it would be done. Oh, negate regret. Like I feel like they all should have been a segment combined. I agree. So now, oh, you know what? I apologize, bro. I apologize. I gotta go back. Okay. What we miss? Tanks round of if only you knew slash come over. Oh, that was fucking fire. If only you knew slash come over. That was a cold ass. That was a cold ass transition. And that's actually what came after me doing slow. So that's my bad. I got lost in us laughing and telling jokes and shit. But if only you knew slash come over, which Candice Boy rubbing on her belly, singing come over was great. Holy shit. It was great. Amazing. And there was a tense moment. Yeah. And I know this because obviously I know Tyrese and obviously we all brothers and family, Tyrese tank, the whole thing. I know him. I don't think he was talking about come over when he says songs. No, he wasn't. People don't know. He was talking about if only you knew. Oh, you knew, right. Tanks on. Yeah. But I think because it murders into each other is when tank took a personal. Yeah. And I said, don't get fucked up. Yeah, I don't think. And obviously I know that's a spot for tank in his heart, right? So I get it. But I don't think Tyrese meant that at all. No, no, no. I don't either. I would say I know he didn't. I want you to say think. He didn't mean it like that. And to me, I was like, I hope. Because at this point, I'm watching. I'm backstage. I'm watching. I'm like, I hope this don't turn into some banter back and forth. And it was cool that it just, it went away quickly. So that round was great for tank two. Amazing. But yeah, so when Tyrese went into nothing on you and to dumb shit, I just felt like they could do your records. Cook, don't give up your time. And rock out. So what I felt like there is that he was already running out of shit and he knew it. I felt like I don't think he was. I think he just didn't go to him. I'm talking about other shit. That's not how you're going to act like that. And yeah, but it's OK. But OK, best man I can from the best man sound track. Like people know that record. People love that record, right? Even if it's not a huge single, it's still a popular record and known song, especially. You got Gene Wine, you got Kase on it, you got Ario on it. Like this is to me, you do that record. Right. So to your point, I think sometimes the problem with verses is that the artists are picking their favorite songs and not what the audience's favorite songs are. Right. It fucks up their track list. Right. Fair. That's just my thought. Yeah, yeah. But when you got a lot of songs, too, it's tough. Right? Yeah. It's tough. But yeah, to me, I think that that could have been mixed into there. And selfishly, I think I like them girls could have been mixed in at some point. I don't know how to fuck it. That's another tempo record, by the way. And as his homie, too, and his brother as well, I would have sang on both, I would have sang on that one, too. Yes. I would have jumped into, because we are family. Yep. I would have jumped right in the background next to Kenyan Dixon. Had a good time. Had a good time and sang my parts on I Like Them Girls. Yep. You know what I'm saying? It's a record. You didn't call me. It's a record. Oh, you did call me, but you called me. We talked about some other shit. You didn't call me to talk about that. I knew that. Right. You know what I mean? So, but I would have done it. Right. It's my nigga. Yeah. Same way it is, right? So, I think that was a little bit of a missed opportunity for him to really have more of a community. More people with him a little bit. With him. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. So, yeah. And now, I think we were probably on maybe the third outfit change for Reese at this point. Yes. Because he had a, I think, I want to say the black, the green and the white all were the same jacket, but they were different colors. Those were all like the sequence on the nails. Yeah, the little pale. Yep. The white one was called. White one Superco. White one Superco. So, yeah. So, now, so we got that. And I think, you know, obviously we talked about, I think Tank, you and Tank won the under round. Yeah. Next, Tank goes into O and naked. Gavin wrong. Yes. Sings O. Yep. Gavin is amazing. You got to give context to these singers. Yeah, these background singers are incredible. These background singers. These are all lead singers. Yeah. These are all artists who either have deals or had deals. And can do special shit with their voices. Yeah, with albums out. Yes. All like super, super and I'm going to make sure I shout out everybody. Yeah. You know what I mean? From Tank's side, it was Gavin wrong. Candice Boy, Lonnie Burrell. From Tyrese's side, you had Ashley Williams, Kenyan Dixon and Ashley Leanna Elliott. You know what I mean? Like these singers are special. Amazing. Special, special singers. So, I think at times, but I do, you know, and this happens in live music. It was parts on both sides where I was like, it should be turned up a little bit or turned down a little more or, you know what I mean? But that's live, that's live performance. It's funny you say that I think overall, especially listening to it again, the band was too loud. They, to me, in a small setting like that, it's more intimate. You don't need to be that loud. Yeah. It was very, very concert level. Because then the singers are competing. Now you can't really, you can't show all your cool shit. Right. And then once again, it's also why I wore ears. Because I wish I had some ears. Because I can tell Toby. Who's, you know, who's tanks in front of house. I can tell Toby like, yo, I want this up in my ears a little more. I want this down. I want, you know what I mean? Instead of what everyone else is hearing. Yeah. Or what I can hear if I take my ears off. So, they went into O and Nekid, which I thought was a great, great transition, obviously. Those records, though, Mariana O, the Marcus Houston Nekid. But like I said, I felt like this portion of tanks, if I could have, if it was me, if I'm tank, I would have done it with me at the piano. Me bringing them out. And letting them. And me singing with them. That would have been. And making it an intimate moment. With under, with O, with Nekid. And then obviously when LaToya came out and did regret, I think I would have merged those together. And then the greatest thing that came out of that was the viral, very, very viral moment. The turtleneck song. Yeah. Ruben, do you have something on Deck Force Rube? Let's see what Rube got on Deck Force Rube. You recycle. After that moment, Tyrese came out and did lately. And what am I going to do? Which are smashes and very much heavy parts of his catalog. And after coming off the turtleneck shit, I'm like, okay, he recovered. He recovered. And in my mind, it's like, that round can go into either way. You know what I mean? I'm not sure if O and Nekid are bigger than lately. And what am I going to do? I don't know. Because what he did too, on a lot of his songs, what I saw with Tyrese is that even songs that I wasn't already sure of, the crowd was singing the songs with him. The ladies were singing. Anytime you got the ladies singing, you winning. Yeah. So Tyrese recovered from what could have been a death blow with that turtleneck. And I felt like he also joined in. That's what made it cool. Yeah, he joined in, had a good time. It turned into a moment. It kind of turned into both of their songs. Both ours. You know what I'm saying? And he took it in stride. You know what I mean? He handled that one well. Because another type of artist who just takes that personal, that could have just fucked a whole mindset up. How the shit go down. You know what I mean? Like your whole shit go down. But I felt like that was a great, to me that is the highlight of the verses. The turtleneck is the highlight of the verses. That is what, to me, turtleneck is going to last longer than the actual event. It has taken on a life of its own. It's taken on a life of its own. I had to find a picture of me with a turtleneck on. I think it was funny as hell, bro. I'm finding some more. I know I got one somewhere else with another turtleneck at some point in my life. Shit, I don't know. I'm just keep posting turtleneck. So to me, that round could go either way. Yeah. I might even be leaning a little more toward Tyrese on that round. Okay. Those records. That's fair. Yeah, that's fair. And because he recovered like he did. Yeah, he recovered like a motherfucker. Then, as I said earlier, Latoya Luckett comes out does regret. Oh shit. Cooking. Cooking. Cooking. Cooking. Blue dress on. Looking amazing. Looking amazing. Sounding amazing. Sounding amazing. Doing her thing. Doing her thing. And she was going at Tyrese. Consummit professional. She was like, I love you, bro. But, but. Nigger. I was like, oh shit. Tyrese didn't do that. He, I don't think he. He didn't. I don't. No, you're attacking Tyrese. Oh yeah. You're attacking him. So what the hell, Tyrese, what the hell? I don't like you. I liked the kind of time she was on. But she's a great performer. Yes, she is. Latoya is different. Like that is not regular. Right. She from the school of Matthew. Hello. You know what I'm saying? Yes. So when she show up, she going to show up. Yeah. So Latoya in market just wins the round. She took it out. Yeah, she took it out. And then Tyrese's comeback was with a song called One. And then the record Prior to You, which was. One, I kind of know. Prior to You, I have no idea what that is. Which is the record with him in Tank. Okay. Let's talk about that. That's what that was? Yes. So I think he was trying to do a mindfuck the Tank right there, being like, Nigger, I even got a song that I had to feature you on type shit. Okay. But nobody knew the fucking song. Right. And to me, that fell flat. It didn't work. No. Whatever he was trying there, it didn't work. They didn't practice either. Because to me, and that's not even a try and some, if y'all going to do that, y'all got to actually rehearse that together. Oh, he was going to do that? I don't know. I don't think so. I don't know. I think that was a surprise. You think Tank didn't know he was going to do it? I don't. Oh, well, that's crazy then. I'm going to do a song with you on it and ask you to sing it, but not tell you. Yeah. Because there's no way he could know those words. Yeah. Like me? Yeah. Man. Do you know what? We're going to get out of there. But I think, and I think at that point, like Turtle Next still had him like, you know. A little bit discombobblier. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So where are we at rounds-wise? I don't know. I lost. I've been like five or six or two. We were like five or six. Yeah, yeah, I think we probably had like four or two. Okay. You know what I mean? Breon came out. Yeah. On Crutches. On Crutches. Yeah. Breon's a legend. Legend. So you and Breon are in that legendary category together of we're not going to say no. We're not going to miss our moment. We're the same like that? Because I would have stayed my ass in the back on Crutches. And I would have stayed my ass in the back not knowing the words. Okay. All right, that's fair. That's just me though. That's fair. But. Hey, just some niggas are like, just give me the light. That's us. Hey, you niggas popping though. Just give me the light. Hey, I can't lie. Breon popping. He won't. Bobby outside is popping. We just give me the light. That's it. Give it to us. Y'all should say that to each other when y'all see each other. Just give it. Breon came out there with Crutches and his can't go on. I was like, it's a fucking legend. Yep. It's a fucking legend. Yep. And I loved, I love the segue. I love the segue because Breon was very instrumental and then making that unpredictable album that was ultimately saving grace musically for Tank and for Jamie. And I love to see Breon get his flowers for that. You know what I mean? So that was really, really dope. And it was cool to see Tank do his impression of Jamie and then Jamie come out and like, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. This is, you know, this how that kicked off. And obviously just even the song title, do what it do. You know what I'm saying? All of it just worked out perfectly. And then he just, he cooked. No, and I want to give Breon his flowers too because they don't really have these guys anymore. Breon is what's called a record man. Real N.R. There are a lot of labels. There are a lot of artists that need a guy like Breon to go find that song that can hear it. Song change lives. He knows, he knows. He knows. He's known for a long time. I just want to say. I mean, shit, the record he got right now on some hip hop with Rick Ross, that record jamming. Niggas know. Niggas know. Breon can hear records. Late nights. Yeah, yeah. He knows all the producers. Right. He knows all the songwriters. Right, right, right. Like, you got to have it. You got to have it. You have to have it. Listen, I don't know what Tyrese could have done to combat that coming other than what I was saying backstage is Snoop coming. Because that's what I'm thinking in my mind, just my competitive mind and how I see shit go. I'm like, Snoop got to be on the way. Right. So, you know me, I'm Petty. I'm in the back and I'm like, holy shit. Tank just did to him the only possible thing you could do about him being a bigger star and movie star. He bought a bigger movie star out. You know what I mean? The Oscar. A nigga with an Oscar. Yeah. What is it called? The ego. What is it that, when you got all of them? Ego. Ego. I mean, I want to ego. Which one do I do? I don't know. So, when he did that, I'm like, holy shit, what do you do now Tyrese? Because the nigga just bought Jamie Foxx out. Right. And the energy in the room just changed. You got to bring the dog out. And the nigga came out cooking singing. Like, it was like he couldn't wait. Yeah. Jamie was singing like the rent was due. He took the big hat off. What? And it started cooking. I said, he sucked it out through him. I ain't going to lie to you. It was in the back. Like, they having a good fucking time now. Yeah. Yeah. No, it was wild. Once Jamie came out. So, where did Tyrese go after that? Where did he? He went to on top of me, which I know. Okay. And Shane, which I love. Okay. Shane is my shit. Okay. And he really went balladier. Okay. Shane. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He gave it all to him. Face expressions and whole shit. Yes. But Jamie Foxx came out and did do what it do. And then they had to cry out yelling, Jamie motherfucking Foxx. Holy shit. Like, yes. Yeah. That's the difference. And yeah. Yeah. There was really no. I think that around even, even Shane is pro, Shane might be my favorite Tyrese record next to Sweet Lady. Really? Yeah. You like it better than how you're going to act like that? Yeah. Shane. Really? Really? Because Shane to me has a different and deeper emotion to it. Shout out to my nigga DJ, Roger. I was just about to say that. You know I took him over there, right? I was just about to say that. Bob made all that happen, Jay. Come on, Bobby, make it happen. Oh, yeah. We was writing for TGT. Right, right. And that's how Shane happened. He had that record for himself. I know. He played that record for me years before. See what I'm saying? Yeah. Took him over there. Wanted to meet Tyrese, said he had a record for him. Yeah. It was Shane. Listen, that record? Yeah. It's just a different emotion in that record. Yeah. It's some soul. It's not regular. It's not regular. Like that is that somebody had to go through a different type of pain to write that type of record. And the record is special. And it's one of those records that I look at like, oh, this is an all-timer. You know what I mean? Wow. Yeah. Just for me, it just puts me in a different mode. DJ, did you hear what the Valentine said about your song, bro? Because he does not say that about Bill in the song. Yeah, I told him. Wow. That record's special. Wow. So, but yeah. But not after Jamie Foxx. In that setting, once Jamie came out. I mean, what could he? Are you, what did you say? Which I think, I also think that Jamie coming out was too early. I agree. We talked about that. He should have been the closer, complete closer. Yeah. No one knows, end of the night. Yeah. I agree. I don't know if that was time constraints. Right, right. You know, because you never know people's schedule. Everybody, you got to be respectful of people's time. Yeah. But in a show, if we're putting it together a show, I'm like, oh no, no, no, we're going to. Well, actually we do know now. He hung out with us all night. So, he was in time constraint thing there. Yeah. He might, you know what? Yeah. You're right. You're right. Yeah, I got. Yeah, he I got. Curveball. Okay. We're backstage. Yep. And next thing I know, I look over and Tray songs is walking up. Holy shit. And I'm like, nigga, what you doing here? Yeah. He like niggas take coffee, nigga. My nigga Tray songs was sauced up. He was sauced. He was sauced. He was sauced. He was sauced with his wetsuit. He was like, nigga, I'm here for bro. I'm pulling up. And I think if he would have gotten there earlier, once again, probably LA traffic during the when we segment, if it could have transitioned into the where when we. Better than trying to do it again. To try to do it again because now it gave Tyrese ammunition to be like, oh, so now we doing the remix is the now we when they tried to get him figured out more and then Tyrese shut it down. He said no. No, no, no. I was telling the keys to just get down. I'm like, our niggas is just bullshit and having fun now. This is fucking hilarious. Tray performed Ty Dolla side's part. He did the wrong part. They both. Oh, I'm like, that's Ty's part. It was bullshit. It was a mess. That was a mess. It was a mess. Funny as fuck. And we're dying laughing backstage. Well, everybody comes back. We're dying laughing. Great time, though. That was a great time. I don't want to say this to the witch because because y'all know I'm a singer-singer, right? I love singers that could really, really sing, right? And Tray's songs was bullshit out there, but we was in the back singing. And I've never been in a, me and Jay sing with everybody. That nigga was cooking in the back. Yeah. He can really sing. Let's be clear on that. Like that's the first time I got to know like, oh, the nigga can really sing. Yeah. He was cooking in the back. So just so y'all know, he wasn't cooking in the front, but he was cooking in the fucking back. Okay. Listen, my nigga Tray was having a good time. He's gonna be like, wow, bro. He said, yeah, I think I went and got some clothes. I think he should have went to the Fox Hill Mall like me too. I think he, I think he should have went and got his shit out. He should have stopped from the airport and went to the Fox Hill Mall. I don't think neither one of you niggas is appropriately dressed by. That sweatsuit was crazy. Yeah, but that sweatsuit was crazy. Bob, you had on jeans and a t-shirt this nigga had a sweatsuit on. I said, these two niggas is crazy. My shit was fresh though. And they talked about my nose. They ain't said shit about my outfit, Jay. That was murdering his outfit. All right. Awesome. Now Tyrese comes back with, where'd he come back with? A slow hook of baby boy. When I say baby, y'all say boy. And I'm like, oh, it was a crowd participation thing. Yeah, but he's seen it kind of like on a, like a slow song. Okay. I'm waiting for the dog. I'm waiting for Snooog. Nigga, if, right. It would have went up. And that nigga would have came out crib walking. It would have went up. He would have went around for sure. I was like, it's, so that round was left on the table. But he goes into that little piece of baby boy, but goes into sweet lady. Okay. Okay. Round Tyrese. Okay. Okay. Round to Tyrese. Okay. Because sweet lady is sweet lady. Because I'm going to say this too. People can say whatever they want to say. Like when, when Shrae walked out there. Oh, it was a full moment. Yeah. They were screaming their asses off. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. Absolutely. All right. So now we getting toward the end of it. And now it's time for Tank to do maybe I deserve slash please don't go. Yeah. You know what that is. Lonnie came out there with his energy. Let's talk about Lonnie Burrell. Listen, so I saw a clip of a later interview of Tyrese talking about Lonnie was bullshitting. Straight up hating. Lonnie was cooking. Cooking. Like never before, like the rest was due. Yeah. Rhys, I don't know. Why are you going Lonnie, bro? Who's going Lonnie? Hey, what Lonnie ever do to you? Lonnie was cooking. Cooking. Going crazy. Hey, I've seen ones where they're like the background singer, that nigga cooking. Yeah. So we know what we know what maybe I deserve and please don't go is and I felt like they, you know, yeah, they got busy on that. And then Tyrese had a perfect setup. The perfect setup. But how are you going to act like that? But then the playback fucked up. Yeah. And then I gave Tank time to be like, how your playback. You want to act like that? How your turtleneck don't act like that? Yes. How your band going to act like that? How are you going to act like that? Going to act like that? I said, oh, shit. Hey, Tank's wit and timing was on a thousand. That's great. On the verses. Because Tyrese, by the way, Tyrese prides himself on being witty and quick with jokes. And there was a lot of times where Tank got at him and there was no get back. Yeah. Yeah. So Tank also won the banter. Yeah, Tank won the banter for sure. By far. He won the banter for sure. Yeah. He won the banter for sure. But the how you're going to act like that is still, once it kicked in. It's a record. It's so fucking smash. It's a record. It's just so all time. We was in the back singing. For sure. So I think that round is a wash to me. That round's a wash to me. Like those are both their clas- even though Tank did too. I was going to ask you. But how you going to act like that is still a- you know what I mean? I think Tyrese should have had two. Or if they did one- whatever. But our one ending song. But how you going to act like that is special. So to me, that's a wash because maybe you say, oh, well Tank did two all timers, which is maybe I deserve them. Please don't go. But how you going to act like that is how you going to act like that too. Right? So I don't really- I still get that round of Tank personally because whenever he does those two records. Now you know I've been on tour with him so have you. It's a thing. No, for sure. They're crying. He did them back to back. Like he don't usually do them back to back. He usually- to do those two back to back to me is a lot. Yeah. I actually- I would have preferred those two to be saying fully. Okay. To me. Yeah. Because I think those are both stand-alone for him. I agree. I think those are stand-alone records, staple records that deserve the full song. So you think putting them together took away a little bit of urgency. Okay. Yeah. In my opinion. That's fair. And then when Tyrese finished, how you going to act like that? He said, Valet bring up my motherfucking car and left his girl on stage, man. I was like, you going home without her? Right. And then I'm in the back. It did take brings his whole family on stage. It did take brings his family on stage. It's like, it got bad. He started making jokes. That's why they left you. Like I'm like, holy shit. Like it got bad quick. Yeah. So, but then Tyrese came back. He came back. Tank took it all back. Tank took it all back. My bad. I didn't mean to you. Oh, you was going to do interviews. My bad. I didn't know. Where in the mouth while he was gone? And I wish G could have popped out. That would have been fucking great. They would have went nuts. I wish G could have popped out. That is a moment that's missed in my opinion. I wish that could have happened. Yeah. I don't know why it didn't happen, but I wish it could have happened. Yes. Twain, you should have been there. And yeah, I mean, and that was, and that was versus, bro. That was versus. And that was versus. So I also have my top five. Versus moments. Okay. I'll tell you what they are. Tell me. Tell you what they are. Tell me. So the number one versus moment in my opinion. Yeah. Turtle neck. Turtle neck. Hands down. Turtle neck. Turtle neck. That was a holiday. That is the number one versus moment. That thing will last forever. An actual song was created. Was created on the spot. On the spot. On the spot. You're going to suffocate. You're going to suffocate in that turtle neck. Nigga, yo. You recycled that turtle neck. Classic versus moment. I go back to it. Candice Boyd singing. Sitting down. Second versus moment. Candice Boyd sitting down. Rubbing her pregnant belly. Belly. Cooking. Cooking. Cooking. Cooking. Yeah. But with the shirt song. Bro, yeah. I leave the belly open. Out. Yes. Yeah. Yes. All of it. Yeah. Hood shit. I love it. Yes. I love it. Yes. Candice Boyd is one of my favorites. Me too. Incredible. That's a great moment in versus history. Yep. Jamie motherfucking fox. Jamie motherfucking fox. Second chance at life. Jumping on the verses. Yeah. And join himself. Freestyle and harmonizing. Harmonizing. Or at least he was trying to get the band to harmonize. I don't know what the hell was going on. It was wild shit going on. No, but he too is a musician. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He can move around in space with a band. And then how are you going to act like that? Acting like that. I'm like, oh, that was the moment. And then the play that got fucked up. And then the banter that comes with it. Yeah. And then, of course, Bobby outside has to be part of the top five. Come on, the top five, J. Yes. Yes. Body roll, Bobby. Sick nigga. Yeah. Bobby outside, Bobby, Bobby. You see me, J? The world saw you. So let me get my top five. Uh-huh. Go ahead. My top five, I'm not going to lie to you. My number one moment for me was Jamie Foxx. Okay. It was just that shit took it here. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? I think the number two moment for me was the total neck thing just because it had a lot of church in it. Yeah. Yeah. It felt like a pastor preaching a sermon. For sure. For sure. He, in fact, Tank was preaching all night. I don't know. For sure. I don't know. Well, that's what he done. That's what he done. That had to be number two. I'm going to say, for me, bro, I think slowly, bro, slowly was, and not even big, just because, again, I like vocals. I like clean shit. I like pure, y'all niggas was cooking. That was the ban wasn't too loud. Everything was perfect on that one. Yeah. And then probably, yeah, probably Candace Boyd, be number four because she just sounded fucking amazing. And then I tell you, I like when he do, please don't. I like when he do those records. I felt like it went up again. The whole crowd was singing everything with him. It was shit was dope as hell. Yeah. That was my five. All right. Yeah, man, I want to shout out all the people too, bro, that were part of the verses because a lot of times, people don't get recognized. And I want to make sure I recognize them. So Tyrese's band was Marcus Hodge, Scooter Schles. You know Marcus Hodge? You know Scooter? Gopay. Gopay. Buffy nigga with the hat on? Yeah, playing the guitar. Yeah. Buffy nigga. Yeah. Uh huh. Christopher McCorkle. Okay. Arthur Sutton. Okay. And then obviously we talked about who his background singers were. Yep. And for Tanks Band, Javon Hill. Yep. Jimmy Hill, you know, the brothers, they go party. Yeah, they go party. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Arthur Jones and Cass Lutz. Okay. That was Tanks Band. And then we had, let's give a shout out to all the audio people. Okay. Tobias Tanker. Toby. Benny Doug Harris. Okay. The Apple Audio team. Gotta get him a shout out. Yeah. Eric Shilling, Cliff, Norwell. Norreal, my bad. Andre Arago. Dustin DeLuna. Jesse O'Connor. Nathaniel Alford. Okay. You know, we shouting everybody out. You know what I mean? That was a part of this thing, man, because it takes a lot of people, and whoever I forgot my apologies, but it takes a lot of people to make these things go. And I want to make sure everybody gets their shout out. They love it. Like if they love, because at the end of the day, bro, it was a great event. I had a great time. I was privileged and very appreciative of being called on to do my part on it. I think I am the only person who has been on versus twice as a feature artist, but never a main artist, right? Because I don't got the right to fucking be a main artist and whatever. But the fact that I've been on there twice is dope. Twice is like, nigga. And yeah, and this outfit is from the first one that I did like four years ago just to show y'all I'm still in the same shape. I don't know about this other shit be going on with niggas, but this is a four year fit. A four year fit. I'm still in it. He's still in it. Still in it. Yeah. You know what I mean? So, she called too. Yeah, thanks. Hey, let me borrow that, man. You know what? This is probably the last time I haven't worn it. What? We can't wear it. I haven't worn it since. Yeah. It's gone now. It's yours. Thank you, man. It's yours. I'm gonna wear that on the Bobby outside show. They're gonna be like, shit is happening. Bob, have all of Jay's verses off. Yup. I'm gonna be like fucking right. It's my brother. But yeah, man, like the verses was great, bro. That's amazing. We had a good time and I think R&B music won. Like right, we scored it and you know, we having fun with it. But honestly, R&B music just won, bro. Like it was a great experience and I just hope and pray that the verses continue to have great artists on there. And I listen and if y'all have R&B on there, y'all should have us hosted. Absolutely. And what was great about the R&B moment to me versus all the other moments is that you saw the live singing. You know what I'm talking about? That it was live. And that them two niggas can really, really sing. Both of them. Yeah. You know what I mean? We said like, yeah, some of the songs fell flat, but Tyrese wasn't missing. His tone was cold. Cold. You know what I'm saying? He knows all these lyrics. He, the niggas an amazing singer. Yeah. Velvet. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. And obviously Tank does what he does and then they just had all the right people, the right band, the right background singers. It was put together very well. Obviously, you got your opinion about what song should be where. Of course, you always have that. But like you said, overall for R&B, it was special. Yeah. You know what I mean? And then to see that it was that many people watching. You know what I mean? Like for R.I.P. Yeah. I made up a number. I said 200 million. No, they said that though. Didn't it? They said 230 million to be exact. Oh, okay. Well, then I already lied in. I thought I just made some shit up. Maybe I really heard that. I thought I was dreaming. No, we both heard that. Okay. Well, that's when I thought I should have did more. You probably should have. So yeah, man. But maybe you shouldn't have. Hey, man. I'm J.Valentine. I'm Bobby outside, man. Wait, hold on. Before we leave, J.V. We got to get my horn real in my shit, J.Valentine. Oh, Bob. Bob got a show. Can you tell him, J? It shows on the way. J, get my, grab my hat. J, Bob. He got a merchant hat. Yeah, come on, J. Talk to him. You know why, guys? Because the fucking mic is on. Good or bad. You know what I'm saying? It could be some tricky notes. But guess what? I'm J.Valentine. I'm J.Valentine. I'm J.Valentine. I'm J.Valentine. You fucking best believe I'm not lip syncing. I can tell you that. He ain't lip syncing. Ain't no shit prerecording. Ain't no lip wrestling. Ain't no fucking lip wrestling. You're shit. Huh? I'm gonna sing that shit. I'm not even all the words or the melody. All right, man, we go. This is Arby. Go go to rats. This is the Arby Money Podcast. It'll be a new day. Versus edition. To recap, I'll see you next week. This is an I Heart podcast. Guaranteed human.
