Summary

This bonus episode of Get Sleepy features a guided meditation on forgiveness led by narrator Nikki. The episode uses affirmations and breathing techniques to help listeners release past hurts, soften resentment, and cultivate self-compassion, emphasizing that forgiveness benefits personal well-being rather than just others.

Insights
  • Forgiveness is framed as a self-care practice that reduces emotional burden and improves mental health, not merely a moral obligation to others
  • The meditation acknowledges that forgiveness takes multiple forms, including forgiving others, releasing past pain, and extending grace to oneself
  • Affirmations work best when presented as gentle reminders rather than forced declarations, allowing listeners to choose which resonate personally
  • Physical relaxation and body awareness are foundational to emotional healing, creating safety for vulnerable emotional work
  • Healing is positioned as a gradual process requiring patience, where hurt and understanding can coexist rather than one replacing the other

My name's Thomas, and I thank you for being here for this bonus episode. It's another of Nikki's wonderful self-written and narrated meditations This time we're focusing on forgiveness Sometimes it's so important for us to forgive And not simply for the sake of others But for our own well-being I'll let Nikki tell you more shortly But first, ensure you're comfortable and settled in, ready to listen. Enjoy a deep breath in and a long breath out. and now I'll hand over to Nikki to take you through her sleepy affirmations for forgiveness Forgiveness is not always simple, of course. Sometimes it asks us to face feelings we'd rather turn away from. Feelings that live both in the heart and in the body. And forgiveness can take many forms. It may be that we're asking ourselves to soften towards someone else. It may be that we want to release ourselves from old pain. sometimes the hardest forgiveness of all is the kind that we extend inward towards ourselves the affirmations we'll use tonight are gentle statements little reminders spoken in the present tense some may resonate with you more than others and that's perfectly okay you can choose to repeat these affirmations to yourself to listen in or let them drift past like clouds across the sky wherever you find yourself tonight this meditation is not about effort it's about creating space for compassion for release and most of all, for rest. So let's continue to settle in now. Allow the surface beneath you to hold your weight completely. Take a slow, gentle breath in And let it go Another deep breath in and a long sigh out. With each breath, feel yourself arriving more fully here in this moment. Let the weight of the day loosen. the thoughts, the tensions the stories you've been carrying allow them to soften and notice the points of contact between your body and the surface beneath you feel the steadiness there the support allow yourself to sink into that feeling a little more with every breath with your awareness on your body notice any areas of tightness or discomfort and bring your awareness there now. Wherever you might notice any heaviness, tightness, simply acknowledge it. Now let your breath move towards those places. Imagine each inhale bringing a little more space to those areas of discomfort And each exhale helping to release a fraction of what might not feel so good Let's release that practice now. And allow your forehead to soften. Your jaw to unclench. Your shoulders to drop. your chest and belly to rise and fall effortlessly. Allow your arms and hands, your legs and feet to soften further into rest. and now in this space of comfort and safety welcome these affirmations and invite them to settle quietly into your heart I release the hold that past hurts have on my heart I allow grudges to loosen their grasp making room for peace I embrace the freedom that comes with moving on from resentment. with rest my wounds are soothed and I feel lighter in myself I know that we all make mistakes and that compassion is always possible I know that holding on to anger weighs me down I let any sense of bitterness ease and choose kindness to settle in its place. I allow forgiveness to rest in my heart. even if nothing around me changes. I honor a path of ease, whether it means rebuilding or moving on. I embrace the healing power of releasing negativity, knowing that it lightens my own heart. I prioritize my peace by acknowledging and clearing away old grievances. I know that letting go of anger is an act of self-care. I nurture my own growth by loosening the weight of past conflicts. I find liberation in not allowing the past to control my present. I carry forward the understanding I've gained while allowing the pain itself to ease I offer myself grace and let it expand gently outward. I welcome a spirit of generosity, extending kindness to myself and others. I make space for peace, respect, and understanding to arise naturally. I open myself to inner harmony, letting it soothe what still feels tender. I hold myself with care and extend the same care to others. I use calm reflection to soften what once felt sharp I release the need to fix everything tonight and simply allow space for repair. I'm patient with the process of reconciling and healing. I lean toward love and let resentment soften. I value my mental and emotional freedom more than I value holding on to pain. I make space for both hurt and understanding to exist side by side. I choose to treat myself and others with patience and care I feel lighter when I welcome understanding and empathy for myself and others. By softening my heart, I invite rest and ease to enter. I welcome moments of connection and joy into my life. I embrace each day as an opportunity to live with an open heart I am mindful of the words I choose, using them to heal rather than hurt. I acknowledge that time can bring perspective and healing I cherish the peace that comes with being unburdened by animosity. I am grateful for the ability to grow from all experiences I nurture resilience by gently releasing past grievances I celebrate the progress I make each day toward a more forgiving heart. I rest in the quiet glow of compassion, letting it shine gently through me. I restore my well-being by distancing myself from harmful feelings and memories. I believe in the restorative power of kind acts and gentle words I loosen the weight of any unresolved thoughts and emotions letting them rest for now As I prepare for sleep, I clear my mind. I rest deeply, knowing each day brings new opportunities for healing and connection. I surrender to a restful sleep in the present moment. As night surrounds me, my heart is soft and quiet. With each breath, I feel lighter, as if the day's weight is falling away. I rest in the safety of this moment. Sleep carries me gently as my whole being finds rest and renewal.
