Summary

Allie Beth Stuckey analyzes the Super Bowl halftime show controversy between Bad Bunny and Turning Point's alternative all-American show featuring Kid Rock, examining Christian responses to both performances and their underlying cultural and political implications. She also addresses a Trump Truth Social video controversy involving AI-generated imagery of the Obamas.

Insights
  • Christian leaders are reflexively divided along political lines rather than biblical principles, with progressive Christians defending Bad Bunny's performance to counter-signal conservative evangelicals rather than evaluating content objectively
  • The halftime show debate reveals deeper disagreements about patriotism, immigration policy, and cultural representation in American institutions, with language choice becoming a proxy for political ideology
  • Kid Rock's performance demonstrated that sharing the gospel message can coexist with past controversial content, creating tension between celebrating redemption narratives and avoiding glorification of degeneracy
  • Evangelical influencers are increasingly willing to overlook explicit sexual content and anti-American messaging if it allows them to distance themselves from Trump-supporting Christians
  • The Trump video controversy shows how context and intent matter in evaluating controversial content, but many Christian leaders prioritize political signaling over factual analysis

If you're watching on YouTube, subscribe on YouTube, on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, and leave a five-star review wherever you listen. All right, let's get into everything that we are going to discuss today. I didn't have the opportunity to talk about this on Monday. We had pre-recorded Monday's Theology episode. Go back and watch or listen to that because what we talk about in there has more evergreen significance. It's not tied to the news cycle. This show really isn't a news show. We want to give you timeless truth that can encourage you and encourage you to dig deeper into the Word of God. And then we also try to tie it into what is relevant and what's going on in the world when we can. So Wednesday, we are actually going to focus on what is going on. And that is the crazy debate over the halftime show at the Super Bowl. And I'm not just going to rehash everything you've already seen and heard. I want to talk about the debate among Christians and what Christians said they thought about it and what I believe we should think about it. So let's back up a little bit, talk about the context. Maybe you don't know at all. I've talked to several people who did not watch the Super Bowl, didn't know about the controversy at all. So let me just tell you why the person who sang at the Super Bowl was controversial. So NFL announced September 2025 that Bad Bunny would perform. Now, Bad Bunny is a Puerto Rican rapper and singer. His songs are exclusively in Spanish. So he's got a lot of popularity in Latin America, but he is very popular all over the world, including in the United States. So it's not completely crazy that he would be chosen to sing at the Super Bowl. But there was a lot of backlash because of this pick, especially from conservatives. And we'll get into why in just a second. That turning point came up with the idea of counter-programming. So kind of like an alternative halftime show, all-American halftime show. And the reason why conservatives demanded basically wanted an all-American halftime show is because Bad Bunny's past statements and his actions have alluded to what I would call a disdain for the United States and a disdain for American culture. In a Saturday Night Live monologue in October of 2025, just days after he was announced for the Super Bowl, he joked pointedly that the audience should just learn Spanish. I'm very excited to be doing the Super Bowl. And I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy. especialmente todos los latinos todos los latinos y las latinas en el mundo entero y aquí en los Estados Unidos todas las personas que han trabajado para abrir puertas más que un logro mío and if you didn't understand what I just said you have four months to learn ok so a lot of people more outraged about that. Now, obviously, he was joking. This is Saturday Night Live. But at the same time, it was serious. He only sings and mostly speaks in Spanish. But this did highlight a frustration that a lot of people had that, OK, we live in this country where the vast majority of people speak English. Officially, legally, we don't have an official language at all. But obviously, the vast majority of us are English speakers, especially the heart of the demographic that watches professional football. And so why are we having a performer that exclusively sings in Spanish? And as I'll get into, there was a lot of pushback about that complaint, calling it racist, saying that that is hateful towards people who speak Spanish. I would say, no, not at all. It's not that people are saying we can't hear Spanish or else our heads are going to explode. But hey, like, let's at least have a part of this show at this iconic American event be something that we can understand. It wasn't just, though, that he speaks and sings exclusively in Spanish, so people can't really discern what he's saying. It's also that he has shown a lot of anger towards ICE. According to the New York Post, before Bad Bunny was chosen for the Super Bowl, he made a statement about why he was doing no concerts in the United States, despite being very popular in the U.S. He said people from the U.S. could come here to see the show. He's talking about another country. Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here or to any part of the world. But there is the issue of like effing ice could be outside my concert. And it's something that we were talking about and very concerned about. So instead of being grateful to America for his popularity and all the opportunity that he had been given, he said that he wasn't actually going to tour in the U.S. because he was scared that ICE would be doing their jobs and deporting people who shouldn't be here in the first place. So that's the level of respect that he has for the U.S. He also said that at the Grammys just the other day. He said, I'm going to say ICE out. We're not savages. We're not animals. We're not aliens. We are humans. And we are Americans. Well, if you're an illegal immigrant and illegal alien, then you're actually not an American. Just because you are here in a particular geographical location does not make you a citizen of that country and doesn't give you a right to be here. But he means something different by American than you and I would think when we say American. And we'll get to that in just a second. Let me pause, tell you about our first sponsor for the day and it's Adele Natural Cosmetics. Adele Natural Cosmetics is a Christian-founded, family-owned company creating clean, high-end cosmetics and skincare that are made with real care and intention. I can attest to that. I use Adele Natural Cosmetics every day. I love their oil-based cleanser. It has been so good for my skin. It takes all of my makeup off. Even when I'm wearing the heavier studio makeup, I can trust that Adele natural cosmetics is going to make sure that my face is clean but also well moisturized regular sudsy soap actually takes off the skin barrier that your skin needs to be protected and to stay moist and adele natural cosmetics doesn't do that when i'm not in the studio i also wear their moisturizing foundation their moisturizing blush i love all of their products and i love this family so much make the switch to adele natural cosmetics you will not regret it use promo code Allie, you'll save 25% on your first purchase. That's adelnaturalcosmetics.com code Allie. Now, some people might say, well, just because he's criticizing ice doesn't mean that he hates America. And that is true. You can criticize the policies of any entity or the government and still not be someone who lacks patriotism. However, Bad Bunny lacks patriotism. Here he is sitting while everyone else is standing up and honoring the American flag. Now, if I had seen that video and he had been standing there with tears in his eyes and his hand over his heart, then I might have thought, OK, that gives me a different perspective on his Super Bowl show and some of his comments. Maybe he really does just think that ICE is out of control, but he has a gratitude to America for giving him so much opportunity. I would still vehemently disagree with him and his position on ICE and deportations and citizenship and the right to be here based on your citizenship status. But I could still say, OK, that is a fellow patriot and I respect that. But seeing that video and then hearing his comments and then seeing some of what I saw in the Super Bowl show, while that shows me, I don't think he's very grateful to America at all. And I think that he sees America as oppressive colonizers of his beloved homeland of Puerto Rico. And we'll get into a little bit more of that in a second. But first, let us also look at another concern that people had about Bad Bunny. He's not just politically left wing when it comes to immigration, but also in his belief about gender. So we'll just put up quickly some of these pictures of Bad Bunny over the years cross dressing. He likes to dress like a woman. And obviously, he's got fake breasts there. And not just like any woman, but a scandalous woman. And that is true of all people who identify as transgender. I'm not saying that he identifies as transgender, but that is something that we see. It's not like, oh, I'm just going to put on this nice prairie dress. It's always looking like a prostitute, which is just very strange. That also is a common theme in a lot of his songs. Fluidity of gender and sexuality, but just a lot of hardcore sexual promiscuity. um so these are the things that people were concerned about and so 11 days after bad bunny was announced uh five days after his learned spanish directive on snl turning point announced it's all american halftime show on october 9th and the headliners were kid rock brantley gilbert lee bryce gabby barrett and those were all announced locked in on february 2nd all of those are in the country realm. Charlie Kirk Show producer Andrew Colvett said that the All-American Halftime Show is an opportunity for all Americans to enjoy a halftime show with no agenda other than to celebrate faith, family, and freedom. Now, we'll get into the actual specific content of that halftime show and what I think we as Christians should think about some of the things that were sung there. But first, let's talk about Bad Bunny and some of what went on during his show. There were some goods, I will say. I know you might think if you follow me on Instagram that I'm just a hater, but I loved and will put up this video that the whole halftime show actually started with a wedding And the cool thing about this you probably seen this is that a real man and woman actually got legally married at this ceremony at this performance at the Super Bowl And there Lady Gaga right there So that great And you know what? It was a man and a woman who got married, which I think is wonderful. You could even argue that that was like a conservative Christian theme there. And then we look at the other performances and some of the dances. I will say another positive is just that it was theatrically incredible. It was so impressive. I can't even imagine how much effort and work and planning and rehearsal and choreography went into every single aspect. It was obvious that this was a show for the camera. It was not really a show for the people sitting there. We used to just have the basic concerts where you had the singer up on a stage and yeah, you had pyrotechnics and things like that. But it was essentially just a concert for all of the people there at the Super Bowl. This was not that you would not have been able to see everything that was going on if you were not actually watching and watching the camera actually follow Bad Bunny. So I will say that like that was impressive. I think artistically, we can say that Bad Bunny is a talented person, that the dancers there were talented people. But if you look at the images circulating, and I decided that I wasn't going to show any of the images that you see on social media of the kinds of dances that were being done while these songs were being sung, you've got men grinding on each other. You've got a simulation of sexual acts between men and women. It was next level raunchy if you actually look at the couples dancing with each other. And that's not surprising because when you look at the lyrics of Bad Bunny, that is the consistent theme. It's not a man and woman coming together in holy matrimony. It is all kinds of sexual promiscuity and different kinds of sexual acts that we won't even allude to and certainly will not explain on relatable. Now, Now, I will say that in a lot of his songs, like Tima Pergunto, there was another one, Sapphira. I'm so sorry that my Spanish is a little bit rusty there. A lot of the lyrics were censored out. And so he did not sing every vile lyric that you will see if you look up his set list and you look up the English translation of those lyrics, you will see allusions to all different kinds of depravity, sexual depravity in those songs. He did sing those songs at the Super Bowl. He did not sing every single line. However, there were still references to drugs. There were still references to sex. It's not like these were appropriate songs. I mean, that's why they coordinated with dancing that was simulating sex between people with their clothes on. So it was not appropriate. It wasn't as explicit as it could have been for television. Certainly not family-friendly in any way. And then at the end of it, I saw some people, conservatives, saying, oh my gosh, that's so sweet that he said, God bless America. Well, remember back when he made his comments at the Grammys, we are not aliens, we are Americans. What he means by America clearly is the continents of America. So North America and South America. The point he's clearly trying to make is that you, United States, do not have a monopoly on the definition of American. Here's Three. Say it, monkey. Okay, it doesn't take that much effort to leap to the conclusion that he is trying to make, that all of these people are Americans. Everyone who lives in South America or Mexico or Canada, they're all Americans. And I assume, maybe I'm wrong, that his logic is, who are you to remove these people from the United States? They are also American. But of course, that is a misrepresentation of what the argument is. The United States is its own sovereign country. We are not made up of just continents. That's not what your citizenship is attached to. Trust me, if I go over to Mexico and I say I want all of the rights and privileges that come with being a citizen or to Brazil or to Chile or to Honduras, that's not going to be honored. Going somewhere and stating I'm an American too is not going to hold any water when you go to another country, when you go to another country in the Americas. We are citizens of particular countries that have borders that we as sovereign nations have a right and responsibility to protect. I believe in Brazil's right and responsibility to do that, just like I believe in Mexico's and Canada's and the United States. Now, people from Puerto Rico, that's part of the United States. And I, you know, a lot of people will assert that you can't be illegal on stolen land. I assume that's also something that he believes. And I've even gotten messages from people saying, well, America took over Puerto Rico, colonized Puerto Rico. Hang on, why do you speak Spanish? Because we weren't there first. The Spanish first took Puerto Rico, and in fact, the entire world is just a history of being conquered and conquering, of colonialism and then resisting colonialism. America is certainly not unique in that, and America gives millions and millions and millions of dollars to Puerto Rico every year. Puerto Rico's got issues. A lot of parts of the United States and parts of the world have issues. I'm not saying it's unique in that. But this idea that United States is an oppressor and that all of these Latin American countries are the oppressed is just not historically accurate. And it doesn't justify this idea that, oh, well, I guess we're all just loosely American. So we don't need ICE and immigration enforcement. Sorry. No. Now, The Washington Post and others thought that this was a very family friendly message, that it was a pro-America message, that we should invite our kids and our grandmother to watch this celebration of patriotism and just family-friendly relationships. And it's not only the Washington Post. We've also got representatives of Christianity Today and Christianity in America echoing the same thing. We'll get into that in just a second. Let me pause, tell you about our next sponsor. It's Cozy Earth. All right. We love Cozy Earth in our home. We love our Cozy Earth towels. We love our Cozy Earth sheets. We love our Cozy Earth loungewear, our sweatshirts, and our pajamas. We have all of these things from Cozy Earth because they make the softest stuff out there. Their bamboo viscouse is just, it's second to none, and it's luxury, and it's temperature regulation, especially when you're trying to get a good night's sleep. What you wear, what you're sleeping on really matters, and I love their bedding too. It's so nice and soft and luxurious, and it looks really good, and it's affordable, especially with my code. If you go to CozyEarth.com, use code RELATABLE for up to 20% off. That's CozyEarth.com code RELATABLE. Okay, so the Washington Post actually put this out on X. Now, remember everything that I just told you about the gyrating. He gyrates a lot. That is just part of his brand. the sexual acts being simulated the singing about sexual promiscuity having girlfriends all over the world and getting high and doing it with each other okay and think of that and now listen to this analysis from the washington post in general bad bunny super bowl in general doing a lot of work here bad bunny super bowl halftime show had the kind of wholesome traditional family values that would have fit right in with some of the more sentimental commercials that appear during the game. So the author of this article says it remained a PG rated affair with about as much dirtiness to the dancing as there was in the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing. Well, yeah, you probably shouldn't watch Dirty Dancing with your kids for sure. The backup dancers were wild and exuberant, but well short of lurid. Disagree. Same for Bad Bunny, who offered trademark grabs of his crotch. No big deal. While singing about an anaconda and inspired pelvic gyrations. This may be the first time we've seen so-called dwerking on national television but it was nothing compared with the flipping and flopping we've seen from bad money's live shows on tiktok now elmo apparently loved this the official elmo account said that bunny was amazing elmo thinks he should be called good bunny pierce morgan couldn't disagree more mr president he is referencing trump trump said it was an awful halftime show pierce morgan says i absolutely loved bad money's halftime show Amazing. Best in Super Bowl history? Theater and choreography. I wouldn't maybe disagree with that. Great energy. Superbly confident performance and a very welcome unifying message. No, thank you. Oh, and Spanish is first language for 50 million Americans. All right. Here are my thoughts on the different aspects of this. One, his lack of patriotism. I said, call me extreme, but I don't think that people who hate America should be asked to sing in the Super Bowl. This is an iconic American event. Part of it is celebrating America, the freedom that we have, the love that we have for football, which is uniquely American. I think someone who cares about America, who stands for the national anthem, who knows what an American is, that it's not just this combination of a bunch of different countries from different continents, but we're talking about the United States of America and having gratitude and patriotism for the United States, I think should be a prerequisite when we are choosing someone to sing at the Super Bowl. Now, I don't think that we've had someone who feels that way about the United States sing to the Super Bowl in a long time, probably because Jay-Z helps produce the Super Bowl and he is a radical progressive. Also, when it comes to singing a language that the vast majority, I think about 85% of the country does not understand. Again, this is an American event and it was not an accident and it was certainly not arbitrary to choose someone who speaks and sings exclusively Spanish at this American event to try to make the point in a subliminal way that what we are doing with deportations and immigration enforcement is wrong. That was the underlying message of all of this. And I think it's a way to shame the key demographic watching professional football into changing their position on immigration, which is just silly. It doesn't really do that. And you're not actually serving the audience who is watching. It really is more about making people feel guilty for voting for Trump or agreeing with protecting our borders. So that's what's going on. I didn't like it. It's not about hating Hispanic Americans. It's not about thinking that no one should ever speak Spanish ever. it is about an American event, having someone who speaks English and sings English at least part of the time. I don't think that's too much to ask and who actually loves America and what she stands for. Now, when it comes to the sexual aspect of this and the explicit nature of his lyrics and the gyrating and the sexual acts being simulated, I would have thought that all of us as Christians could rally around the idea that that's not good, that that's a bad thing, that that's not something that we want our kids watching. It's not something that we should cheer. Maybe you thought that he was good theatrically, but I just thought that all Christians left, right, and center could say, it's probably not a good thing to be acting in that way, behaving in that way when millions of people are watching because we know what the Lord says about sexual immorality. We know that it kills people in their soul. We know that it's bad for the heart and the mind and the eyes, and we don't want that for people. We love our neighbors more than that. I said, doing an entire show at an iconic American event in a language most of the country does not understand is a humiliation ritual. But then Mike Cosper responded with this, which I just thought took it too far. Alternative take, Mike Cosper, who is of Christianity today, America has always been a melting pot. And once in a while, throwing a bone to our Spanish-speaking neighbors is a kind and loving thing to do. And Christians ought to celebrate it because they appreciate all those neighbors do for them? I mean, there are so many aspects of this that I find condescending. Throwing a bone, we ought to celebrate it because of all that they do for us, not even just that they're people and fellow Americans and neighbors, but because these Spanish-speaking Americans do things for us, we should throw them a bone. I thought that was just too far, because he's going beyond saying that he disagrees with my statement about the humiliation ritual and into the territory of saying Christians need to celebrate this because Bad Bunny speaks Spanish and we know people that speak Spanish too. And so I just replied with some of the lyrics of one of the songs that was sung, a Dominican who was a fresh hottie, fresh, fresh hottie, the one from Barcelona that came by plane and says that is fire. I can't even say. Now that was bleeped out. That part was censored from the Super Bowl show. But the rest of those lyrics were sung. The sentiment was sung many, many times. And it's hard for me to understand why this person from Christianity Today would say we have to celebrate that this particular halftime show in order to love our Hispanic neighbors We also had people like Phil Vischer He hosts a podcast He is an anti Christian and he also invented VeggieTales Very thankful to Phil Vischer for the hours that I spent at Christian school on Fridays in elementary school watching VeggieTales. It was a great resource, but unfortunately, Phil Vischer seems to have become very mushy on some things that should be very basic for the Christian. He said the halftime show didn't appear to be degenerate. It was fun. Now, he deleted that post. I have yet to see him post something out saying, hey, I got that wrong, and here's why I got that wrong. I would appreciate that. We've all said something that maybe we didn't think all of the way through. But here's the problem with these anti-Trump professing Christians. They are so reflexively against anything that is conservative coded or MAGA coded, like the Turning Point halftime show, and so reflexively supportive of secular progressive culture as a way to kind of like counter signal conservative evangelicals, that they will end up supporting degeneracy in the name of being winsome or in the name of being anti-Trump. And these are the very kind of people that will accuse people like me or Megan Basham or even Elisa Childers of being blinded by our political ideology or making an idol of politics when in reality, these people seem to view everything through the lens of MAGA versus non-MAGA. Caitlin Francis pointed out on X, she said, don't tell me God doesn't have a sense of humor, the man responsible for iconic VeggieTales, the Bunny song, in which the bunny is code for the idol that all the people are peer pressured into worshiping, is out here defending the Bad Bunny halftime show because it was fun. And you kind of have to know a little VeggieTales lore, but other people were creating this meme. And you'll remember this is the VeggieTales rendition of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, when Nebuchadnezzar was saying, bow before my golden idol. I could sing you this song, the bunny, the bunny. I could probably keep going. It's just stuck in my memory. But they're pointing out that this is ironic. Like, okay, we've got the bunny that is symbolizing idolatry, and you have the creator of that now seemingly bowing before the idol of Bad Bunny and saying, oh, it's not really that bad. And then you have people like Mike Cosper responding to me pointing out the terrible lyrics of Bad Bunny by saying, now do Kid Rock. So this was the debate that was really waging. Kid Rock or Bad Bunny, who was worse? You've got Turning Point saying that they've got this family-friendly show, but then they have Kid Rock, who is not really a family-friendly guy, singing. And so that debate is kind of what became the flashpoint for the intra-Christian battle that we're having right now. So let me explain what went on with that in just a second. When I heard that Kid Rock was playing at Turning Point's show, I was wondering how that was going to work out because I don't think of him as kid friendly, ironically, or family friendly. I know that he has a history of being very raunchy. He's definitely about the like sex, drugs, rock and roll, drinking and things like that. So I was very surprised when I saw a clip because I was rocking a baby and I wasn't able to watch the entirety of Turning Point's halftime show. But I was surprised when I looked on X and I saw this clip circulating of Kid Rock sharing the gospel, or at least part of the gospel. Here's top four. There's a book that's sitting in your house somewhere that could use some dusting off. There's a man who died for all our sins. Hanging from the cross. You can give your life to Jesus. Jesus and give you a second chance till you can't. Take it. If you got a chance, take it. Okay, I love that. I loved that message. I love the theme of this song. It's called Till You Can't. And that line is so true that Jesus will give you a second chance. He's got all of this grace to give until you can and until you take your last breath. And so do it now. And that is a very biblical concept today. If you hear his voice, don't turn away from him, but turn toward him, go toward the Lord and repent. And so I loved that. Now, I also saw people circulating the rest of his performance that happened before that, which was promoting the kinds of degeneracy that Kid Rock has promoted in the past. He's saying one of his songs, one of his earliest hits that has lyrics like this. And this is for the questions that don't have any answers. The Midnight Glancers and the Topless Dancers goes on to say for the shots of Jack and the caps of meth for the hookers all tricking out in Hollywood. So very confusing. And a lot of people rightly pointed out this seems a little bit hypocritical. Now, people also use this to come after people like me and say, this is the person that you're trying to say represents Christianity. It's so hypocritical for you to criticize Bad Bunny. I don't think it's hypocritical for me to criticize Bad Bunny. I'm obviously going to celebrate when the gospel is shared, even if it's by someone whose entire faith journey I don't know, versus just promoting degeneracy. If Bad Bunny had gotten up there and preached the gospel, I would say, okay, it's kind of weird that he was just gyrating in the air and that he's preaching the gospel. But wow, millions of people heard the gospel. I'm really happy about that. I promise. I would have clipped that. I would have put it on my story. I would have put it on X. I would have said, wow, this comes as a surprise. And so at first, I didn't really know what to make of Kid Rock sharing this biblical truth, but also singing about these awful things that obviously I don't approve of. I don't want to promote. I don't want my kids hearing about or watching. But then I saw John Root. He posted this and gave us some context. He said, there seems to be a lot of confusion and backlash, especially from the Christian community, about Kid Rock's performance during Turning Point's All-American Halftime show. I can clear things up. Kid Rock started his set by performing Ba with Da Ba. And I'm told that that is how you say it, which came out in 1999. It's a vulgar song, John says, referencing topless dancers drinking, crooked cops, bastards, etc. Hearing that was a shock to a lot of us, rightfully so. He says, it felt worldly, which I believe was the point. Next, there was an acoustic set with two people playing a Christian hymn. It was meant to be an emotional bridge to what came next. Finally, it transitioned to Kid Rock, his stage name, being introduced back to the stage as Robert Ritchie, his birth name. He then played a revised version of Till You Can't, which included lyrics about Jesus. He also spoke about Jesus's sacrifice on the cross, encouraged people to follow Christ, and to read their Bibles. This was supposed to be an artistic way of portraying a redemption story. He says, I don't know Kid Rock's Walk with Christ, but he used this moment to point people to Christ, and I rejoice in that. He references Philippians 1, 15 through 18, which I believe by pretense or by truth, in an honest way or because of some kind selfish ambition. We should always praise God when the gospel is preached. That is my take on that. Do I wish that he would have done a different method of trying to portray that apparent redemption arc? Yes, because I guarantee if I had been watching that and he was singing about that, I would have muted it or turned it off, and I probably wouldn't have stayed for the rest of the set. I would have just assumed that's all he's going to sing about. Typical Kid Rock is what would have gone through my mind, and I wouldn't have watched the rest of it. So I think there was probably a way to not seem like you're glorifying that kind of self, glorifying that kind of lifestyle and saying, I don't sing about that stuff anymore because Jesus changed me. Like he captured my heart. This is my new self. And let me just sing about that. People also pointed out that a long time ago, 2001, he had a song that came out called Cool Daddy Cool, where he talks about, and this is a terrible lyric, young ladies, young ladies, I like them underage. some say that's statutory, but I say it's mandatory. And yes, that is absolutely awful. I don't think that any Christian should brush over that and say, oh, well, that's not that big of a deal. My only response is, yes, that's terrible. We shouldn't celebrate that. I wish he hadn't sung the bad lyrics, but man, I am so happy that he shared truth about what Jesus can do for a person to millions of people. And by the way, just congrats, Turning Point. I believe it was overall like 20 million people who are viewing this alternative halftime show it at least shows proof of concept maybe there are some things that they would do differently next year i would not have called this completely family friendly not only did kid rock sing about some of that stuff but we also had some other singers just singing about beer i'm like can we not sing about something else other than beer but gabby barrett i will say i mean there were a lot of good performances gabby Barrett. Incredible. I had not heard her sing before. So strong, so good. And so, yeah, there was some backlash about this and some questions. Is Kid Rock actually a Christian? I don't know if he's actually a Christian. We looked back at some of the statements that he had made on Joe Rogan, for example, shared some weird stuff, talked about how basically Jesus is everything and everywhere. This is kind of like pantheism or panentheism, and that obviously is not something that is biblically true. Now, he also seems to have some understanding, though, of forgiveness and redemption and change and turning toward the Lord. Now, he also mentioned that Paula White, who is President Trump's spiritual advisor, is his quote-unquote pastor. Now, you can go back to Monday's episode to hear what I believe the Bible has to say about female pastors, but also I've done a whole episode on Paula White, and that is episode 1137. A few months ago, she is the head of the new faith office there in Trump's administration, and I think that it's bad because I think that she swindles people, and I think that She manipulates people into donating money to her with a spiritual premise, and I believe that's wrong. I believe that's wrong. And I believe that she teaches a health and wealth gospel that doesn't align with biblical truth and actually can lead people to a shipwrecked faith, because what you win people with is what you win them to. And when they realize that life is still hard, you don't always get health or wealth when you follow Christ, but rather we're called to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Jesus. people can be really disappointed. So I think that she is highly problematic. I'm sure she does a lot of good things, says a lot of good things, and I'm happy about that, but I don't think it's great that this is his spiritual advisor. Now, all of us in the beginning of our faith probably believed things that were not true. We're all going to believe things that are not true until we get to glory because none of us is perfect. I certainly listened to teachers when I first became a Christian that I would not listen to now. And so we don't know his heart, but we can hope that he is on a path of sanctification like the rest of us. Now, there were some posts that I saw on his Instagram that people sent to me from a few months ago. Not good. I would not encourage you to go and look at those and look at those pictures, like pornographic, promoting sexual promiscuity. So again, I don't know where he is in his walk. So I don't really think that this works as a Gotcha. From the Christianity Today people or anyone out there who thinks that I'm being too harsh about the Super Bowl show, I didn't even make any comment about his artistic ability, although it does sound like he has a good voice. I didn't say that he was a representative of Christianity. I said that he shared some biblical truth that pointed to the gospel, and in that I rejoice. And it really should be that all Christians can at least rally around that. People like Mike Cosper, Phil Vischer, they would call me divisive. But really, I think that all Christians, if we can't rally around basic biblical truth about not glorifying sin and being happy when the gospel is shared, I don't think it's me that's being divisive. And I don't think it's me that's blinded by the culture war. I don't think it's me that's having a hard time seeing things through the lens of Scripture. I think that when you are seeing everything through the lens of, ooh, if Trump likes it, then it must be bad, that that's really going to mess with your moral clarity. So let's pray for Kid Rock. Let's also pray for Bad Bunny. The best outcome in all of these situations is that these people come to know the Lord, that they are saved by His grace, that they continue to be sanctified by His grace. All right, there was another controversy within the evangelical world, and that had to do with, yes Donald Trump and a very unfortunate video that was released on his Truth Social We get into that in just a second Let me pause tell you about our next sponsor That is Alliance Defending Freedom Alliance Defending Freedom is committed to protecting our religious freedom Religious freedom is a cornerstone of our nation. Okay, it has been a crazy time. within American Christianity. And we've we had ice. We had the Obama video and then we had bad bunny. You got a lot of people angry and specifically angry at Ali Stuckey for the things that I am saying and not saying. So let me further explain my position on this after I give you some context. So there was this 62 second video that Donald Trump posted on Truth Social last week that primarily focused on allegations of fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Yes, we are still talking about this. At the end of the video published to Trump's account, it shifted to a two-second segment of an AI-generated video showing former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama with their heads superimposed on the cartoon bodies of private. So we're just going to show you. It's not going to have any sound, but I'm going to show you this video that played on Trump's truth social. So at the end of the video, which we're showing you, you should watch on YouTube so you can see the whole thing. It shifted to this two second segment of this AI generated video showing former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama with their heads superimposed on the bodies of gorillas. Now, a senior White House official said that the video had been posted by a staffer in error rather than Trump himself. It was subsequently removed. And then Trump spoke to reporters on Friday about it. Obviously, people were saying this is totally racist. I can't believe that he would post this video with the Obamas as monkeys. And so reporters asked him, what do you think about this? Here's thought seven. At the very least, do you condemn the racist parts of the video? Of course I do. So he says, of course I do. Now, when we first saw this story, all we saw was that Trump had played a video of the Obamas as monkeys. When I first saw this, I saw Russell Moore, who is also the editor emeritus, I think, at Christianity Today. He's a longtime Southern Baptist guy. I thought that Trump had just posted this video of the Obamas as monkeys. And I was like, oh, my goodness. What in the world? How awful. and how is he going to explain something like this? And that's what a lot of the posts show you. This is what Russell Moore said. He said, racist, deranged, humiliating to our country. The fact that we have decided to pretend to this is normal every day is a moral abomination. Have we any shame? And every day, an entire generation is being told it is Christian to support this. God have mercy on us. So, so many things about that. number one, he doesn't show that this is clearly a screen recording and that it auto played another video. That's what happens when you're watching a video on X. And I assume the same is true for Truth Social. You may not know if you're not on X. If I'm screen recording a video, maybe to post to my Instagram story and I don't stop it in time, it's going to auto play to the next video. And if I don't go in there and edit it exactly, then it's going to show the next video as part of the video that I screen recorded. And that is very obviously what happened. It's that's not even an assumption on my part. There is no I I promise you, even if you think that Donald Trump thinks these things in his brain, like even if you think that secretly he is this anti black racist, he would not intentionally put a picture like this on his truth social, even if you want to be completely cynical and just say, it's all about politics for them politically. It doesn't help him to do that. That's not what the rest of the video was about. So you can maintain your belief. I don't share this belief that Trump is a racist and still just be logical and say it doesn't make sense with the rest of the video that was clearly being screen recorded. But you would think that from Russell Moore's post. And also, it is not true that an entire generation is being told that that is Christian. No one is saying that. You're misrepresenting our argument. Our argument was, and still is, by the way, that Trump is a better alternative to Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. And to that, I say, yes and amen, yes and amen, yes and amen. I do not regret that at all. They would have been, Biden was, but Hillary and Kamala would have been disastrous as presidents. I am thankful considering the alternatives that Donald Trump was president. That does not mean that I think everything he does is morally great. That doesn't mean that I like all of his posts, that I like everything that he says. I've been extremely honest and consistent on that for a very long time. I did not support Donald Trump in the primaries, mostly because I think that these like moral and rhetorical unforced errors really distract us from focusing on policy. He's done a good job, I think, in this administration policy wise. but it does make it difficult when we are having these kinds of conversations. I still think so much better than the alternatives that we had in the ballot box. And I really don't understand how a Christian could say, no, the better and the godlier thing to do, the thing that leads to better policies for my neighbor is to vote for Kamala Harris. Maybe you voted third party, maybe you didn't vote at all. Okay, like I can kind of understand that I don't agree with it, but I can understand it. I don't understand voting for someone who is so vehemently through all nine months pro-abortion and anti-pro-life and anti-First Amendment like Kamala Harris. I just don't. OK, so the argument is not that something like this, a video like this is good. And then you have John Piper, which this makes me sad. It doesn't surprise me that much, but it does. It does make me sad. He quote tweeted Russell Moore. He said, one not be so afraid of sounding quasi-woke that one cannot agree with Russell more on this. John Piper, listen, I'm going to defend you first, and then I'm going to say something. John Piper is not a progressive. Okay, I've been listening to John Piper for probably 10 years. I listen to most episodes of Ask Pastor John, and that has been going on for a long time. He is not a progressive. He is very, very clear. He is theologically conservative. He is so solid on the theological issues. I think he does not think through the political and some of the social issues when it comes to these conversations. I think that this is reflexive because he lives in Minneapolis, and I think a lot of conservatives actually look for the opportunity to flag, oh, I'm not political. Oh, I'm both sides. I'm just calling out the leaders in a completely nonpartisan way that they don't take the time to think, but is this true? But is this true? And that is very disappointing because John Piper is a very smart, a brilliant intellectual person that I know is very diligent when it comes to studying God's word. You have to be also diligent in studying and discerning the things that are said on social media. And then we also had a senator, Alabama Senator Katie Britt. She said this content was rightfully removed, should have never been posted to begin with, and is not who we are as a nation. I don't necessarily disagree with all of those statements. I think all of those things are true. I don't know if within her statements, there is an assumption that Donald Trump did this on purpose and that he was really trying to be racist towards the Obamas. I, again, just don't believe that. I don't believe that it was intentional. And I got a lot of people very angry at me because I don't believe that he did this on purpose and who just wanted me to say, wow, Trump is so bad for posting this. Well, I'm not going to post that. I'm not going to say that unless I think that he did this intentionally. I'll get into more of my points in just a second. Let me tell you about our last sponsor. That is Good Ranchers. Love this family-owned company. We rely on Good Ranchers almost every night in our home. Last night, we had what we typically have. We keep it pretty simple. We had our baked chicken breasts so good. My kids love the chicken from Good Ranchers, and I love that they are getting this protein from an American farmer ranch. I had the ground beef and I ate that with sweet potato and it was amazing. I love having a freezer full of good ranchers meat. It makes sure that we are prepared, that we're getting our protein goals and also that we are supporting this American industry, which is so important for the American economy. And this year to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, They are donating a portion of their profits to the paralyzed veterans of America. And so if you want to support veterans and support this American company, go to goodranchers.com. You'll save $25 when you use my code Allie. That's goodranchers.com, code Allie. Okay, so my belief is that, of course, it's dehumanizing and wrong to depict black people as monkeys. That is an old trope that has been used to demean and justify mistreatment of black people. Now, there were all kinds of people in the full video that were depicted as animals that was not caught in Trump's screen recording, but you can go see like the full dumb video. And it depicts all different kinds of politicians as animals. Biden was also depicted as a baboon, and Trump was seen as the lion, the king of the jungle. And so there's no debate about whether this was a dumb video, whether depicting black people as primates is wrong and evil. I do believe that it is. But the debate is over whether this was done on purpose or in error. And I do believe it was in error, not because Trump and his people said that, but because when you watch it, it looks like that. That's exactly how it looks. And so I got called all kinds of names. I got people mad at me for saying that. Why can't you call out Trump. Look, I'm going to call out Trump on the substantive stuff that I think is bad for our country. His support of taxpayer-funded IVF, their support of the circulation of the abortion pill, which is killing our fellow image bearers of God, our neighbors, our fellow Americans, every single day at a huge, awful, evil scale. And then also just the wishy-washy stance that he has personally had an abortion. Now, in other ways, I think the Trump administration is extremely pro-life, is extremely pro-procreation, and is pro-baby. And I'm very thankful for the foreign policy that he has put in place that I think in general very much promotes peace, the economic policy that he has put in place that has promoted economic prosperity in a lot of ways. And I will, I don't see me ever, ever regretting voting for Trump over Kamala Harris. I will reiterate, that would have been a disaster. I will never vote for someone like that. And if you think that we should have voted differently, if we should have voted for Kamala Harris, you're going to have to give me the political Christian case for that because I haven't heard it. And I traffic in a lot of left-wing perspective, including so-called Christian left-wing perspective, and I've never heard a persuasive argument for why we should vote for Kamala Harris. I'll hear out your argument for why you think we shouldn't support Trump or why you think that we should vote third party or whatever, but we've got a binary choice at the ballot box, and that's what we've got, and I'm thankful that this was the outcome that we have. Now, some people say, well, you should just hold him accountable. Look, the only way that we can really hold him accountable is by not voting for him. And that's done. We're not going to vote for him for president again. You're not going to get me to promise that I'm not going to vote Republican again. Look, when you've got a party that is chemically castrating kids and butchering kids inside the womb, when you have a party that won't even say at this point that we have a right to enforce our border, you're going to it's going to be a no for me, dog. It's going to be a no for me when you're electing an outright Islamic socialist in the state of New York City, it's going to be no for me. And so we're going to have to take some unforced errors and some not great tweets that I believe were accidental as an alternative to the absolute degenerate destruction that we see on a wide scale from the Democrat Party. Maybe not every individual Democrat, but Democrats as a whole. So that's where we are. We've had the debates about Trump's tweets for many years. He's president. He's not going anywhere. He's not going to resign. He's not going to be impeached. We should call him out when we can. We should push him in the direction of righteousness when we can. But at the end of the day, this is who we got for three more years. We can make a different choice next time. All right. That's all we've got time for today.
