Summary

This episode of Real Ghost Stories Online features a caller named Vanessa sharing a disturbing paranormal experience involving her husband being physically pulled out of bed by an unseen force after his mother visited a psychic. The hosts discuss the potential dangers of psychic readings and whether consulting a psychic about someone without their knowledge could open supernatural doors, alongside extended tangential conversations about early texting, radio comedy bits, and personal paranormal experiences.

Insights
  • Psychic consultations about third parties without their consent may create spiritual vulnerability or attract unwanted paranormal activity according to caller beliefs
  • Physical manifestations of paranormal activity (being pulled from bed) can cause lasting psychological trauma and reluctance to discuss experiences
  • Cold reading and vague psychic techniques rely on confirmation bias and audience willingness to believe rather than genuine supernatural ability
  • Radio entertainment bits and satirical content can blur lines between fiction and reality for audiences, creating legal and reputational risks for broadcasters
  • Personal anecdotal experiences with unexplained phenomena (chakra opening, energy work) resonate more with audiences than skeptical analysis

Today on Real Ghost Stories Online, one explained encounter during his teenage years was frightening enough that he's never wanted to talk about it again. Welcome to Real Ghost Stories Online. You can write in right there, or you can call 855-853-4802 and share your real ghost stories with us. It's only $9.99 a minute, and then $5.99 a minute after. 900 numbers. I'm kidding. It's free. But do those things exist anymore? Or is there still 900 numbers? I don't think so. I don't think like half of our audience even knows what that is. So it used to be, remember when it was really popular for psychics like Miss Cleo. And it would be like 99 cents for the first five minutes or something. They had a deal. But then it jumped. It's like $2 a minute. I remember too having to, you know, you would wait until after 10 o'clock to make a long distance call because it was so much cheaper. Yeah. Yeah, because you have the nights your cell phones too, like free nights and weekends. and that used to be that wasn't all that long ago it probably still exists with some carriers but i remember like one of the first self excuse me first cell phones i ever had was literally it was tiny and that was the the selling point you could like hang it on your belt razor wasn't big yeah yeah i think it was smaller than that actually um it was just really really really really tiny and uh for people who text and stuff a lot if you don't remember what it was like to text on the old phones where you actually had to use the letters on the number yeah yeah um you know you'd maybe text maybe twice a day right because it would take too long to text anything um i got good at it yeah i got i got okay with it but i mean i never got good at it we we certainly weren't texting and messaging like we do today no it was it was it was a i never got into abbreviations but you know i get that's probably where a lot of them came from was originally those reasons because of the qorty keyword keyword thing uh but it uh uh it it was certainly a learning curve uh to to get used to it i wonder if i could do it again like if my if i'd have like it's like riding a bike i'd have thumb memory i did the muscle memory of how to do that because I could do it sometimes not even looking at the screen. Oh, that's impressive. Holy crap. That's a whole different technique. Yeah. I mean, I got used to it. I had that one phone for a while. And then after that, I had a keyboard. But it was a couple of years of that. And I remember my first text message, too. I was late to the text message game, though. Like, people were doing that for years. I kind of remember that. How do you remember your first text message? I know. It's kind of like his first text. What was it? It was actually a girl that I was dating in Wichita there that you know, Carol, who was sisters, was in some of the arts, some of the play stuff with you at the theater. And they come from a rather wealthy family. Oh, I know who you're talking about. Um, and, um, yeah, I was, uh, I was in Denver, Colorado, uh, visiting my aunt at a hotel and I got a text message and I'm like, oh, I don't know. I don't do, how do I reply to this? And it took me a little while to figure out how to fucking text because nobody texted me. I didn't text, but I remember like, how, what do I do? and this was like 2006 ish 2007 right around there I don't even kind of remember my first text did that story sound a little made up to you though Carol I was in Denver Colorado with my aunt and we were skiing on the slope I mean it just seems like you're just making sure it was my aunt Chris I remember I was out there visiting it was actually it was me and a friend who you all know we were out there it was like we were young and dumb you know it was kind of one of those what do you want to do this weekend he was in another state too I think he was like in Omaha and like you want to go do something this weekend let's meet in Denver and so we went to Denver and we saw my aunt and she's really cool we went for drinks And, um, but yeah, I remember like it was, I remember that whole drive was a long drive. Um, but yeah. Sounds like a children's book. Tony's first text message. And then you'll pop up book, you know? Yeah. Yeah. I don't know why I remember shit like this, but it's like the random shit that, and then like comes like real, like harp, you know, heartfelt moments in life. Uh, my first text message in a lobby of a best Western. like your poor girlfriend what what were we wearing the first time we met i don't know but i can tell you about the first text message i ever had pretty much i mean it's like it's a momentous moment in life i don't know text message and it sounds crazy but i don't know it was new it was new at the time and it was like wow this is different but um there you go uh all right let's go to a phone call 855-853-4802. Let's hear your real ghost story. My name is Vanessa. I called a couple of weeks ago. I have more stories that have happened to me and my family. I haven't really talked to much people about this other than my husband, but he's not really into it. He thinks it's not real or he's just skeptic. He really doesn't believe in this thing, but things have definitely happened to him. One story is that when he was probably 15, 16, he was a teenager, him and his parents, his mother, especially his mother, she used to always go to this psychic so she can tell her future. And I guess that she got really curious one day and she decided that she wanted to know about my husband. I don't know if she opened something as soon as she kind of introduced, you know, the idea of knowing her son's life or future. My husband has never experienced anything creepy other than this, like from then to that age. I guess she came home one day after that, and my husband tells me he felt so weird that day for some reason. Right after the warning, after his mom dropped him off school, and he just felt so odd the whole day. He went home. At the time, he didn't know that his mother did a reading on him. He went to sleep. He said it was really late, and he was sleeping, and he was really, really tired because he had football practice and all that and he said in the middle of the night and this is I was so creeped out when he told me this because I've seen things I've experienced things but I've never had anything like this happen to me and knowing how tough he is I I was like oh my god did did it really creep you out it creeps him up so much that he will not talk about it again he told me that the story one time and he never spoke about it again And he hates talking about it When I tell my sisters when I tell like my friends and stuff he hates talking about this But he was laying in bed and he was sleeping. And in the middle of the night, he said he started feeling really, really, really hot. And he wasn't having a nightmare. He was literally just sleeping. He said he doesn't remember any nightmare or anything. out of nowhere tim everybody was sleeping he got pulled out of his bed he got yanked out of his bed and he just fell on the floor and his everybody in his whole house his whole house was so creeped out of this because of the sound the big thud it was a two-story uh house um and everybody heard this big sud and everybody ran and trying to figure out what happened and my husband said that he woke up screaming because he got yanked out of bed and he has no idea he wasn't dreaming of anything he didn't see anything he it was plain dark and he just got yanked out of bed his mom finally came in the room and they saw him laying on the floor because they used to all sleep with door open and she saw him in his room laying on the floor and asked him like are you okay what happened why are you on the floor he told her that he got yanked out of bed and the whole thing he's been feeling really weird and he was really scared his mom was like did you see anything uh were you having a nightmare maybe you were having a nightmare and you you fell out of bed maybe you walked off and he was like no no nightmare I was just sleeping and I felt hot all of a sudden and then I felt like somebody grabbed my leg and pulled on me and yanked me off bed my husband was pulled off bed so hard that he hurt himself like um his legs and his head and he said he was in so much pain and then a couple of days later you know like that was it he you know he didn't really think much of it and a couple of days later his mom told him you know that day that that happened to you I had went to my psychic medium and she had told me that things about you because I wanted to know your future and I wanted to know if you're going to be okay and he was like why would you do that um because he doesn't like any of that stuff he doesn't get near it so he was pretty upset with her and he said that she probably opened something or touched something that she shouldn't have had and I do believe in that because I know that once you introduce yourself to things like that you open doors so I think that she opened a door for him and that's what happened I think but if anybody has ever experienced anything like that it would be really interesting to hear like i said i have more stories um thank you your podcast was incredible thank you so much have a great night thank you for sharing that uh that story with us um it's ironic that we it's it's it's it's it's ironic we were talking about 900 and psychic numbers when people did this right and then it turns out to be a psychic story. Have you guys ever gone to a psychic and then felt like, boy, they actually did kind of catch, catch some stuff. I have gone to a couple psychics, but I haven't felt a huge connection. Um, it kind of felt a little like they were fishing for something, you know, it, and so I, don't get me wrong. I think there are really good psychics out there. I really do. But I just haven't had yet an experience that I really felt that really moved me. Because after I lost my dad, I really felt like I needed a connection like that. And I never did get anything like that. But can you? That's the question, though. could I go to a psychic? Can they read my son, which seems intrusive. Like what was the mom doing? Can that cause that kind of activity for the son all because she went to a psychic and they were discussing him. I think that's an interesting concept right there. Yeah. That's really what that's all about. Like if like, do you have no say in it whatsoever? Like, so if somebody wants to basically go to a psychic or something, and stir shit up about you because they want to talk to the psychic about you and dig about you and whatever. Like, could that then like, well, someone was digging on you and now you got this stuff going on around you. I don't know. That's a weird thing. I was told this last night about, and it's kind of a weird cause and effect thing where it's like, well, this is interesting. my fiance is like, people are looking up weird shit about you online. I'm like, what? And there's a way in Google you can look up, like, what people are searching within query of keywords within, like, your own name or something. And, like, the shit that people search. I don't want to know. No, and I'm like, people are curious fuckers, you know? And it's interesting to see. And with your name being so unique. Yeah. Like Carol Hughes, there's a million of us. Todd Michaels, there's got to be quite a few. Yeah. Yeah. But it's interesting because you type it into Google and then they'll like, it'll kind of think and it'll base in like what other people have searched for with that term. And it'll suggest da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da-da. And you're kind of like, wow, why is that? So, okay. Now you open up the can. It was like one of them, does Tony Bruschi have a third nipple? Is that one that people were searching for? That was number seven on the board on Family Food. Survey says third nipple. No, it was a lot of people very inquisitive about if I'm married or if I'm not or if I'm engaged or those sort of questions. Net worth. Where do I live? not like a dress, but like what city am I in? Things like that. I didn't really find anything that crazy. You know, it was like, well, people are curious, you know, whatever. I didn't find anything like, you know, is he an axe murderer or something? Thank God. And at number one, Tony Bruschi, axe murderer. Axe murderer. Yeah. But I got to do Casey Kasem on TV the other night. I did the Casey. Shut up. I did a Casey on court TV. How did that happen? I just did it. I didn't allow me. I just did it. It was because we were talking about the Paul Canaro case, which is a horrible case. If you want anybody to look into it. And the guy is just so much evidence against him. And it was like, what's the strongest piece of evidence? And I was like, you know, it kind of reminds me of like Casey's countdown coming in at number one are the bloody jeans in the basement. did the host appreciate your casey oh yeah everybody loved it yeah it was good yeah yeah vinnie liked it yeah and then there was like a like an entire like nypd detective on on the other end who was also commenting on the casey uh bit so vinnie politan investigates it's one of the Paul Canaro episodes pre what's today 128 so it was probably like 120 I think it was Monday's episode I think because what is today Thursday or Wednesday Wednesday yeah I was on Monday Monday I don't know I think I think you're on Monday night if yeah it was on the 26th of Monday yeah we used to have a psychic who would come to the radio station I don't know if you were there at the time tony but he was a psychic but he also proclaimed to be a shaman okay okay so he'd come on and we'd take phone calls and people go i'd like to know what i'm supposed to do with my love life whatever and i'm there and at the time terry davis was there and we're just kind of like rolling our eyes at this stuff but one freaky thing really happened and that was he he looked at me goes do you have like a really bad headache right now and i'm like yeah i do it's pounding pretty hard and he touched me on the top of my head and it totally went away and I said what the hell did you do he goes I just opened up your crown chakra so that freaked me the hell out did you ever look into that more like did you ever I'd be like can you teach that to me for next he said that we all have the power and I do believe in a little bit of that stuff and I know a little bit about chakras and stuff like that yeah but that was the first time first of I don't like people touching me. And it doesn't matter if I don't know you or if I know you really well. I didn't even like hugging my parents. So I'm not a touchy feely guy, but the fact that he touched my head and opened it up, but just like blew my fricking mind. That's amazing. Yeah. I mean, and then to have that happen. Yeah. And I remember he was skeptical. It's like, like, yeah, but like, Oh fuck. Yeah. And Liz Seidel was, was there at the time as well. You remember Liz, great friend of ours. and he was doing readings on the two of us. We both looked at each other and we said, I think you're getting us mixed up. I think you're reading him for her and her for him and all that kind of shit. It was just kind of weird, but he touched my head and that fricking headache went right away. Crazy. Oh my God. Wow. Yeah, that's crazy. I've never had an experience like that, but that's gotta be, yeah. I mean, it's like shit. There's like, there are certainly things we do not understand that are going on. And, and yeah, and it's, I, um, I remember like in, in high school, I took a, it was like a, it was like a form of martial arts. I believe it Chi Gong is what it was called Um but there was it was a lot of like energy type work and stuff And i remember there was a couple exercises in there where it was like it just kind of like feeling another person's energy without actually touching them and there was like there was some moments like holy shit like it was just kind of crazy like wow like this shit is real like i don't know how you know but i mean it's like but there's things we don't see things i mean yeah it really um i um Speaking of psychics, I used to do a bit there in Northeast Wisconsin. It was on WPKR, I think is where I did it mainly, which is a country radio station. So people are listening to like Tim McGraw and Reba and Rascal Flatts and shit in between the songs. I come on. And I have what I'm claiming to be a bowling psychic on the phone with me. And his name is Chet Jameson. Chet Jameson, the bowling psychic. And he kind of talks like this. It was kind of Ross Perot-y almost sounding. And I had a phone so I could kind of go back and forth. So it sounded a lot more convincing that it was another person. But we had the sound of like bowling alley in the background and people and all that. And Chet claimed that he could read people's, you know, give people psychic readings or answer questions based on the way the bowling pins align themselves. Oh, my God. You're freaking brilliant. That is so much and good. The bowling ball. Funny. So we did this. I did like the whole night for like, I do it like once a week. Chet Jamison, the bowling psychic. And did people call in? All night. Oh, my God. And some people knew it was a bit, but I got to say, you know, we're talking about a country radio audience here in 2003. Yeah, I'm going to go 50-50 as far as maybe that's being generous as far as who thought it was real and who thought it was just me being me. but he'd throw the ball and he'd always be like interrupt and we really people will be like asking questions too you know it's like like my father had a message I know he was going to get to me it was about something uh some message about my my brother and whatever like something like was going to be pivotal um and hang on okay we're going to do this okay I mean I got the ball are you ready Chet? hang on, I'm just putting my hands over the little air breeze that comes out over here where the ball would turn out it feels good Chet, we gotta kind of keep going here okay, okay, so then Chet gets out there and makes the sound effect of the ball and the pins being hit and oh my god well, looks like we have a 7 and an 8 still standing oh is that nachos i'll take some of those and he would just like constantly get interrupted by shit at the bowling alley you know there'd be like nachos coming by maybe like some you know it's like no kid hey kids no no no kid no i want that that is my what's going on chad they're trying to take the ramp the ramp you know the ramp you bowl with well they're kids no one said that the grown-ups couldn't use it too you know and then you know it would just well okay let's go back to the seven eight pins and and then it would be like okay well it's and he would just say something completely fucking asinine or something and it would usually somehow in my mind it it twisted its way back to animals being involved in some sort of inappropriate relationship with a family member. It's like, Grandpa, did you guys have a cat? No. Did you guys have a dog? Yeah. It was a dog. Yeah, I see a dog. Was it, was it, it was kind of the size of the dog was, it was, and then they would fill it in the blank, and they'd be like, well, it was tiny. Yeah, it was tiny. And it's really, what it taught me in doing this bit, because you can just keep going and just kind of keep being iffy on shit. Yeah. And then be really like, damn, you're right. You know, when they say something or you just insert it as being real. People love to agree. People love to believe that there's something happening. And you're just hitting the sweet spots in that conversation. And to anybody on the outside, if you're being critical, it looks insane. But if you're in that moment, in that situation, you're wanting this to be real. because you want to, like, there's a purpose here. And if you're nefarious and evil and are, like, doing this for a, you know, a wrong reason, other than for the enjoyment of entertainment of people, which maybe that's, I don't know, but if you're, like, doing it for profit to hurt, like, that's what I'm saying. It could be done easily. It ain't hard to convince people that you're a fucking psychic. I mean, it wasn't hard to convince people that this fake character was a psychic, even though he was bowling and the way the pins aligned themselves somehow corresponded to the answers of the questions enough people bought that shit i mean just take the bowling out of it i mean i could probably get another 90 you know get up to like a 95 percent rate of belief um it's it's spooky it is very spooky and i get how people are able to do that i am just i i am so upset that i've never heard that bit from you if you've got it anywhere i've got to hear it sometime i have tapes of it i know i actually yeah i gotta start digitizing this shit it's brilliant because there you go there's a there's a whole stream of podcasting right there for you all this stuff just throw it out there it's true the uh i'd love to do the bits again in some way shape or form like wouldn't it be interesting if these characters like got their own podcasts or something you know yes like the chet jameson bowling podcast i actually went on google and looked up chet jameson bowling uh psychic i couldn't find anything on nothing pops up no no no damn i yeah i mean i uh i bet you know where you would find it you'd probably find it on the way back machine website. If you go to WPKR.com circuit 2003, uh, because, uh, uh, it didn't find my page. If it, you can dig that far into it. Um, but I, I remember I would put, uh, cause it was, you know, you had to put your stuff up on the website. And I remember I put some Chet Jameson stuff up there way back when I will look it up. He exists in the ether that in Stan Winchester from stands on the Bay, where you hunt your own meat. which there was no way in Wichita. That's a great name. Stan Winchester was a, Stan Winchester almost got me fired at one station. Why would it Stan do? Stan was running a promotion for Christmas one year where if you came in, it was when the Wees were really big, the Nintendo Wees. And there were so many scams going on about it at the moment. So this was a satirical bit, kind of a cautionary tale, if you will. of Don't Believe Everything You See or Hear, again, to a country radio audience. Stan was basically, every time he came on, we got wheeze. We got wheeze down here at Stan's. You come in tonight. We're going to get you hooked up with a wheeze. Some restrictions of live. We'll tell you more. Okay, great. Stan's going to tell us more, you know, just a bit. And every time Stan's on, it's like, come on in tonight. We have to, you know, we are a business. so when you order your dinner for two we're going to cook you up with a wee for the little ones this holiday season wait till you see the looks on their face under the Christmas tree, it's going to be great so that dinner and then just a few more things and every time it escalated to something and eventually it was like and it's only 15 minutes in my office with your wife you know, that's all it is and you know and it's like what what are you talking about stan and and it was it was a comedy bit you know it went on and stan got crazier and then people called in thinking stan was real and you know i'm playing the like good guy the like oh my god i don't know he's an advertiser i don't know what's going on here this is insane and i'm like saving the day and like it's a scam like you like do you even have a we stan man, we have, you know, it would always be something else. Anyway, it was, it was a bit. Never once did we say you're going to go to this restaurant that doesn't exist on the bay in Wichita, of which again, doesn't exist. Um, and, uh, and get a wee, uh, but, but there was a lovely couple that decided that they were going to threaten to sue the radio station if they didn't get a fucking we because they they told little Jimmy in the backseat that we're going to go to this restaurant and you're going to get a we and then apparently they realized they were idiots for saying this to their child rather than going hey maybe we shouldn't like be sure of what the fuck we're saying out loud to our child and correct our ways no they decided hey let's try and sue the radio station so they uh they call the station and then And this is all over Christmas time, too. And I went home for Christmas, and the whole time I'm worried I'm not going to have a job when I get back because of these fucking assholes. And so we get back to the station, and the general manager, to appease them, found a fucking Wii and gave it to them. And it was, like, really hard to find one at that moment in time. I don't know if he got it to eBay or what the fuck he did. But he got a Wii, gave it to him. they came into the radio station and they're in his office receiving their fucking week. And I'm on the air in the other room. He comes in, Hey, Tony, can you come? They want to, they want to say hi. They're big fans. I'm like, what? And I'm just like, I had like this week of like stress, you know cause I this is all I do It was radio at that time I know a backup job And so I like friend I going to lose my job And they like hey hey Hope there no hard feelings You know, we really love your show. We think you're really funny. And I'm like, enjoy your wee. And I walked out. And I don't know, because it was like, are they admitting like they fucking took the radio station? Yep. Or are they just that stupid? That's what it feels like. yeah i don't know i remember it was like and it was this whole fucking hoopla yeah because of stan winchester fucking asshole these voices in my brain let me uh let me rephrase that brilliant until there's a lawsuit yeah that's where it all stops yeah oh my god you know what after that after i fucking stopped doing bits on the radio i i did i it was like that's when i i started my business doing the radio and tv commercials and i said fuck it i because i knew they were not going to have my back and and they really didn't they could have told me to go fucking pound sand but they didn't um and uh yeah i i just like knew like if i keep doing my bits you know one of these is not going to work out the right way and i'm gonna be out of the job so what's the point you know especially if i wanted to get out eventually anyhow so i'm like well i better start building this thing here. So I did. And I wasted, I didn't waste, I used eight years building my business while saying that was, this is weather next. Before that I was very active doing shows. It was fun. It was, you know, that's why I love podcasting because it's like, I can do shows again without worrying about that shit. So there you go. All right, everybody. I think that'll wrap up the program for the day.
