Summary

Club Shay Shay's Nightcap Hour covers sports injuries and recovery (host undergoing knee surgery), NBA rookie Cooper Flagg's historic performance, the San Antonio Spurs' 10-game winning streak, Phoenix Suns owner's All-Star Weekend incentive proposal, and an anonymous NFL GM's dismissal of Tyreek Hill's post-injury value.

Insights
  • Professional athletes face significant career risk from injuries even during off-field activities; recovery timelines vary dramatically (3-4 weeks to 6 months) based on surgical approach
  • Modern NBA depth and committee-based scoring systems reduce reliance on individual star performance, as evidenced by Spurs' balanced attack with six players in double figures
  • Financial incentives alone don't motivate elite earners ($50M+ annually) to participate in optional events; intrinsic motivation and rest priorities outweigh prize money
  • Coaching transitions create leverage for contract negotiations; new systems and coaching staff increase player attendance at voluntary activities like OTAs
  • Injury severity and age significantly impact veteran player market value; teams view post-injury recovery risk as disqualifying even at minimum salary
Trends
NBA teams prioritizing depth and balanced scoring over star-dependent offensive systems for playoff resilienceDeclining participation in All-Star Weekend showcase events despite increased prize incentives, suggesting non-monetary factors drive elite player decisionsNFL coaching changes triggering immediate contract renegotiations and leverage shifts for star playersPost-injury veteran market devaluation accelerating for players over 30 with multiple ligament damageShift in athlete motivation from financial incentives to lifestyle, rest, and autonomy at peak earning levelsRookie performance benchmarking against all-time greats (Magic Johnson comparisons) becoming standard NBA analysisMulti-ligament injury recovery complexity increasing skepticism about veteran return-to-form timelines

What's that? What? Your boy is going to have to go up under the knife, Ojo. Joe. Woo! Yeah. Damn! I got it. Damn. I got it. I got a partial I got a partial tear of my my medial meniscus oh man that's in your that's in your knee huh right here dang are you sure you need surgery well I got to go see the orthopedic I got an MRI yesterday and they gave I'm bone on bone on the lateral with arthritis severe arthritis but I got a slight chair I still got some cartilage in the medial side so I'm gonna see what they're gonna do do they're gonna go in there and cut and snip or what else what are they gonna do are they gonna do a complete repair or do they cut and snip so man you trying to catch up with your boy under that knife damn oh I might have been bowling Oh, so you did it when you were bowling? Oh, man. Good thing. Man, why don't I sit like that? Man, why don't I sit like that? My ish was on fire. Okay, okay. And then, because think about it. We did all that in one day, and then all that stand up on Netflix. Yeah. Yeah. It didn't swell. It didn't swell. But I just noticed, I was like, well, damn. How the? I was like, man, it hurt so bad. First, when I got home, I had to go up the steps. I was like, well, damn, my knee hurting. But I was like, you know what? Hey, I've been on the plane. I've been standing. I just flew six hours back cross country. I was like, I'll be all right in the morning. And boy, I tried to come down the steps. Man, I was like my dog. I was scooting down the steps. One, two, three. Hold on, hold on. I got a question there, right? You know, health is what's most important. But does this mean we're not doing nightcap outside no more? We are. We just, you know, we just had to, you know, take a couple of days off. I'll be back better than ever. And I was just getting into a swinger thing. I'm doing my cardio. I'm getting six hours of cardio a week. I was like, I was feeling so good. Yeah. Man. Damn. But I knew something was wrong. I told myself, I said, I'm getting there. She said, what's wrong? She said, probably just, I said, nah, there's something wrong. I said, I think I told my meniscus. She said, how? I said, I don't want to tell you. Hey, hey, hey, hold on, hold on. Hey, when we had them injuries, we be knowing. Because, boy, let me tell y'all something. When I blew out this patella tendon, you know what happened? I got right on the plane, so you know- Oh, it swole the- Oh my goodness, Joe. It swelled up. But when I got home, my lady told me, I was like, oh, you gonna be all right. Put some ice on it. I'm steady telling her, I'm like, man, listen, let me tell you something. This thing here ain't right. I ain't never felt like this. Did it roll up, Joe? Did it roll up your quad? Yeah, it rolled, not all the way, but it rolled up enough to where like, if I'm sitting straight, if I'm sitting, I can't lift, I couldn't lift my leg at all. You know what I mean? I could still walk and you can, I could tell because I'm walking the stairs, I'm like every week it kind of kept getting better, but I'm like, it wasn't good enough to be out there doing no moving and cutting. I can tell you that. So I went on, got that MRI and it was a wrap. Man, man, you about getting up, going to the bathroom, Mocho, because once that leg be done, that thing be done. Boy, I was like, Lord, have a listen. I said, I need to let some plastic down. I should just pee in the bed. It's my bed. Hey, with this patella, boy, how you thinking that for real? I'm like, ooh, Lord. I mean, I really truly try to stop. I'm in college chat. Y'all know I used to drink tea. I mean, I used to drink, you know. Man, I try to stop drinking water by 5 o'clock. I eat at 7.30, just eat a plate of food and no water. No, no nothing. So you ain't got to get up, huh? Hold on. Hey, Ocho, with this patella, they gave me this big jug. Yeah, you ain't going to be, because the first couple days, you can't even get out of bed. You just got to keep it straight. Oh, they gave you that goose, Ocho. You know what normally they give you that goose like they would give you in the hospital? You have to. Boy, listen. Hey, I had that thing filled up. Because you know now, they won't let you leave unless you pee. The hospital. Yeah. They won't? Nope. So I was like, hey, go on and give me that goose. Yeah. Yeah, you're going, yeah. Mr. Sharp, you need some help? Nah, I need y'all to get up out of here. I need y'all to get up out of here. And when y'all come back, I have something for you. When I did my hips, Joe, when I did my hips, I got my hips done, I probably got them done at like 10, it's like an hour and a half surgery. So they take you down to the recovery room. They like Mr. Sharp, Mr. Sharp. Right, right. I can hear Shelly, Shannon, Shannon. I said, yeah. I said, it's over with. She's like, yeah, your surgery done. You did well, Mr. Sharp. I'm like, has anybody done bad in surgery? But okay, I would take your word for it. You said I did good. Okay. It's like, well, Mr. Sharp, I mean, as soon as you can get up and walk, you got to walk up and down a flight of stairs, you know, three times, walk down the hall, and we'll let you go. I said, excuse me? It's like, yeah, if you walk up and down, you walk up and down the hall and fly the stairs a couple times, we'll let you go. I said, Shelly, help me get up. Yeah. I said, help me get up. I'm down here. I'm getting up out here. You ready to go, huh? Absolutely. Hey, that was tough, though, wasn't it? What? Joe, man. but and the doctor told me he said Mr. Sharp he said you're not going to feel any pain he said the only pain you're going to feel is where we actually went in because they go in take the ball out you know you got a ball like a big gumball they take it out and he's like Mr. Sharp you want it I'm like what the hell I'm going to do with it I mean it ain't no trophy to me old Joe Joe it ain't no trophy man throw that issue away so So, man, I got up there, Shelly helped me down. Whoop, whoop, I walked up and down the face. She's like, slow down, you're gonna fall. I said, man, please, I need to get up outta here. I walked up and down. Hey, I was like, doc, y'all looking? That's like, it was like, Mr. Sharp, but they won't let you walk out of the hospital, they put you in a wheelchair. Cause we got, you know, they're not gonna fall on their watches and own the hospital. So they put me in the wheelchair. Walked me to the thing. Man, I jumped in there so quick. Then, you know, they gave you all these instructions. You know, no driving, no operating, no heavy machinery, blah, blah, blah. But three days I was driving. Drove myself to rehab. Hey, hold on. When they numb and stuff wore off, how was your idea? You had to take, like, pain medicine everywhere. No, no, no. Well, what happened was, Joe and Ocho, they gave me something that I had allergic reaction to. so I ended up having to get rushed to UCLA medical clinic I'm just breaking this news to y'all y'all didn't know this so so I'm glad it wasn't nobody see me but I had to go because I had an allergic reaction hives everywhere face swollen damn I'm talking about everywhere I'm talking about arms torso all down my back and my throat started to close so I had an allergic reaction they don't know what they said well Mr. Sharp We would literally have to give you some of everything that we gave you to find out what the reaction to. So they would literally have to stick me, wait 10 minutes to see if that caused it, stick me. I said, oh, hell no, I'm good. We'll figure it out. I said, just give me. Guess what? Go back, have the other one done. The same reaction. What? Yup. The exact same reaction. Damn. Damn, but y'all, y'all boy, y'all boy, like little pin cushions, boy. God, dude. Chill, chill, chill, chill. I'm just saying. Chill, chill. This is- Hey, hey, hey, hey. This is a sensitive subject, bro. This is sensitive subject. I know, I know. I feel you, I feel you. I commend you. I commend you. You know- Joe, they talking about you putting building me. Build, oh, man. Come on, man. Hey, come on now. Come on, come on. Hey, once I get this thing back, oh, rematch, it's on. Hold on, hold on. How long are we talking? How long are you talking? It all depends on what they do. I mean, it could be three to four weeks. It could be three to six months. Damn. Hey, listen, let's stick to like some shooting pool throwing- Oh, man, shooting pool. Nah, nah. Boy, I'm Efren Reyes and Earl Strickland. You don't want none of this in the pool. He's best in the house. Here you go. Here you go. Hey, hey, hey, hey. Man, y'all don't want none of Slim. Oh, Georgia Slim. Y'all heard of Minnesota fast. Oh, Georgia Slim? Bah! Hey, listen. Y'all know what's going on. Yeah, but hey, man, look here. Like I said, hey, I was like, man. Got my homeboy Bucket, man. That joker had both knees replaced. He had back. Man, my homeboy was messed up. In like the last two years, he'd have had neck surgery, back surgery, and both knees replaced. Damn. Jesus. Hey, man, we got to get y'all back moving. I was a triple jumper. I was a long jumper. Like I said, there are some times I went out there on the football field, I ain't have no damn business out there. The way I was feeling, I ain't have no business out there. I know that. So that's why it's hard for me to have somebody. Look, I'm going to go out there. I got to. I know my teammates counting on me, and I know it's a finite period of time in which I got to be great at this. And that's why I was able to walk away, Joe, I was in such peace, because I know I left it. Everything I had, I left it on nothing. I left it. I left no stone unturned as far as my eating, as far as my training, as far as my rest, as far as the way I met, the practice. I left nothing. I didn't owe the game nothing, and the game didn't owe me nothing. Now, the game took a lot from me, but it gave me a lot too. Yeah. Right. It gave me a lot. Absolutely. Absolutely. But, hey, knock on wood, knock on wood, Ocho. You ain't had no surgery. You ain't had me. Hey, you a damn near 50 years old and ain't had no surgeries. I'm 58. I'm 58. Man, get the hell out of here. Yeah, Joe, that's an asterisk, man. I was hurt. That's an asterisk. The game was so lifestyle. Well, if that's a kid, I was hurt, too, then. Joe, man, I told my meniscus like the third frame. We were right there, Joe. We were neck and neck. Chad, go back and look at it. Okay, Ocho, can I talk to Chad? Chad, I need y'all to chime in on this, man. It wasn't even close, you know, for them to be coming up with all these. Them? Yeah you just you just you you I know you I know you I know how you get down brother Nah nah nah that what Unk said he was hurt unc said he was hurt that why he lost to you yeah i know what was wrong with you oh i i don bowl that not something i do i don bowl and i don go so i i doing things that you guys are familiar with so therefore i ain't nobody bowling down in 20 years i think the last time i bowled i bowled with the kids it had to be like 2000 don't start that um You talk about you got your own ball, your own shoes. Man, hey listen, listen, listen. Y'all athletes though. Y'all athletes, man. Y'all supposed to be able to dab quick. Y'all supposed to be picking stuff up. Looking at the other one, you couldn't tell he was an athlete. Who? Actually, I'm the best athlete out of us three. Huh? You might be- I'm the best athlete out of us three. I just, it was one of those days where I was like- Nah, that ain't had nothing to do with it. Hey, Joe, I would like Cade Cunningham another night. I just, you know, we know what I can do. I just ain't show up that day. But you know what? I'm going to be right back here. We're going to be right back here. I will see how y'all talking when y'all 58. Hey, hey, hey, 82% of the chat. I appreciate y'all chat. They said that it's not an asterisk. I'm sorry. Joe, stop reading the comments. This is an asterisk rolling. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I told you I'm with the people, so I got to be in tune with what's going on. No, but I don't know, Ocho. I mean, the thing is, like, you go to – guys used to have bowling things. And so you go to the bowling thing, you can get a bowling ball. It's like, okay, you get shoes or you get a bowling ball. So, hey, I get a bowling ball made. Right, okay, okay. We used to have bowling tournaments at the Broncos. That was, you know, we have offense against defense. Yeah. I get a bowling ball made. Even here in Atlanta, we had events at bowling alley. Ocho, what y'all were doing in Cincinnati? Nothing. I mean, Joe, I can't recall us ever doing no bowling, Joe. I'm going to be honest with you. Man, we went to the movies. Like after practice, doing OTAs or something, we all going to the movies. It'd be about 12 guys in the movie. Everybody, hey, everybody be in that thing asleep by 30 minutes in. Somebody wakes up, hey, man, you got some popcorn left? Yeah. But no, no, no, no, no. No, no, we didn't. We went bowling every Tuesday. And we be, nah, you see how I was acting bowling? Oh, it was worse than that with us. Yeah. It's worse. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, man. Oh, yeah. Guys break dancing, doing the centipede. Guys dribbling the bowling ball like it's a basketball. Yeah. Hey, you go to bowl, they bowl down the other lane. I said, man, y'all be cheating, man. Y'all be doing some kind of cheating, man. But nah, it wasn't listening. Cooper Flagg is the first rookie since Magic Johnson to reach these stats in 40 games. 750 plus points, 250 plus rebounds, 150 assists, and 50 steals. Joe, what's Flagg's ceiling? Oh, I think he's, I think he has the potential to be a superstar in this league. Okay, Ocho. I mean, he's shown, he's shown superstar potential. You know, obviously, J.K. playing him at the point, him probably learning that position at this point in time in the pros, it's definitely going to help him down the long run. He's a prototypical NBA guy, 6'9", 6'10", who can handle the ball, shoot the three, create off the dribble, post up, make guys around him better. He got the potential to be one of the greats. He got potential. I agree. I think he has a chance to be special. Like you said, he got the body size. He can put the ball on the floor. He can shoot the ball. You know what, Joe? When I saw that man against the Redeem team or whatever they called themselves, and they was in Vegas, and that man was dunking, and that man was putting the ball on the floor against AD and all them guys, I said, oh, this man ain't scared of nothing. This man ain't scared of nothing. Yeah, and if he ain't for 18 now, he was 16 then, wasn't he? How old is he? 19 now, so he's about 17, 17, 18? Yeah. Yeah, so, yeah, I think he surprised a lot of people with that, too, because he was showing me some skills that he had and who he was going up against obviously was the elite talent of the NBA. And he held his own. He held his own. And from that point, you know, he's been dubbed as one of the next ones up. 20, 24, he was 17, right? Yeah. Tens great wins for the Spurs for the first time since 2015-16. They beat Orlando 112-103. They beat OKC 116-106. They beat Dallas 135-123. They beat Dallas again 138-125. They beat the Lakers 136-108. Golden State 126-113. Phoenix 121-94. Sacramento 139-122. They beat Detroit 114-103. And tonight they beat Toronto 110-107. The Spurs are now within two games of the Thunder, first to the West. The Spurs have won 15 of their last 18. Hey, they balling, boy. And look, they had six guys in double figures tonight. And Fox led the way. But the one thing about when I look at the Spurs team, obviously Wimby anchors a lot. He had five blocks, Uncle Ocho. But he don't necessarily have to put on a stellar performance offensively for them to win. They got so many other guys who can chip in and put up numbers. All he got to do is anchor the defense. We got the rest. And that's what's been going on as of late, man. They've been playing great ball. They on the road smacking teams. And, man, look here. The man blocking shots don't even leave the floor. How you block somebody don't even jump? Come on, Joe, man. It's almost unfair. It is, bro. It is. It's almost unfair. Because we never seen nothing like it. You know, his size, the way he moved, moving like a guard. Like, it's insane to even watch. I'm going to be honest with you. And Wimby, he didn't have, I mean, they shot 47%. They made some threes. They were 17 to 39 from the three. But you look at Champagny. He had 10. This is the biggest night in podcasting. Fox had 20. Bissell. Bissell. Yeah. Is it Bissell or Bissell? Bissell. Is it Bissell? Bissell. 21. Stephon Castle had 13. Dylan Harper had 15. so yeah but why you talking Vassell has been consistent over the past I don't know few weeks when I've been really watching him he's been getting off he's been getting off yeah they did a job I mean you shoot 50% against San Antonio you done something man cause you better be making some outside shots cause you ain't gonna be making or getting a whole damn layup cause Wemby and all that hey he gonna make you think about it even when you do come in there Yeah. He going to definitely make you think about it. He nice. But they do it by committee, Uncle Ojo. Yeah. A bunch of different guys, bro. A bunch of different guys. And everybody played a whole bunch of minutes. I mean, the most minutes we played of Vassal and Fox played 30. Wimby played, excuse me, Fox played 31. Wimby played 30. But you had a bunch of 21s, 14s. The starters, Castle only went 13 minutes. So I'm wondering if he, excuse me, only went 28 minutes. Yeah. I'm wondering if he got Nick. They deep, man. They deep. They deep. I mean, you look at Harrison Barnes coming off the bench. I like Connett, who was with Boston, the big dude. Yeah. Yeah. So they got some guys who. He's the, isn't he a spur? When you look at it, Kelly Odenick. Yeah, he is. When you look at him and Kelly Odenick, when they had Yaka Pearl and they had what's the guy? He's the head coach of Portland now. Yeah, Splinter. Splinter. They're the perfect guys. When they had Bonner. Yep. Yeah, so. They going, hey, depending on how long Shea going to be out, they might catch him. Even if they don't, they don't want to see San Antonio in the postseason. Unless they have to face him in the conference final. I want somebody to knock them out so I don't have to deal with them. Because Wimby's a problem. You're right. Wimby's a problem. You're right, but it's going to be tough beating them in the seven-game series. We. So it's on the map. Ishpa. wants more NBA stars to participate in All-Star Weekend, Joe, when Phoenix hosts the Miss Seasons Showcase next year. To help, Ishva has offered to pay $1 million prize to the winners of the 2027 Slam Dunk and three-point contest, with another million going to the charity in each event. The concept, however, will run afoul with the CBA. Officials of the league office said the players union told ESPN such prize would not conform with existing bonus structure. Ishpa did not consult the league office before making an offer but he's motivated to find a way to get stars to participate in the event. I think the stars been participating in three point competition. Hell you get staff, you get Dame, you get Book. I mean you get Donovan Mitchell. You had Clay Tommy. Some of those guys have participated. It's just the dunk contest is that the stars don't participate anymore and that's what everybody want to see uncle and joe that's what i said last time we talked about it they have to find a way to incentive incentivize these these fellas even though they're making 50 60 70 million dollars make it worth a while that's the only way to get players that are elated what they do that are making the most money to get them to do something a nice little a nice little chunk of change you know, to have some fun with, to do whatever you want to do with. Let me go out here and get this extra, you know, two, three million. What? Win this contest, be creative, you know, and then go about my business. They're making too much. You ain't doing it? You wouldn't do it? No, I don't think the guy, I don't think motivation is the issue. I don't think them guys, look, if Jordan could do it for 25,000, you think these guys, and Jordan making $2 million. If you think these guys is making 40, 50, $60 million a year, going to be motivated to two million, you mistaken. They are a little spoiled. They're not doing it. They complaining about playing 82 games, making 70 million. Right. Them guys, they're unmoved with money. But, hey, listen, but with it being incentivized like this, I think we'll have some guys who probably we didn't expect. I think guys will step up. I mean, obviously, three-point shootout is already, where is that? That's already interesting. But, yeah, I think for a million dollars, Ant-Man making 50 million. So what's a million dollars do to him? Hey, Joe, that's, I mean, listen, it's not insulting. It's a lot of money. So I don't want anybody in the chat to say, you know, is it me? We're talking about in comparison to what NBA players are already making. Now, we're at the All-Star break. And, listen, I have a chance to make a good chunk of change to do some extra with. You know what? I don't have to touch my salary money. I don't have to touch my endorsement money. This is something just a little fun. I can get, I give it to my girl. I give it to my wife. You know, I can put it up with my kids, whatever it may be. They're making 20 million. They're making 30 million in endorsement. They not moving for a million dollars Ocho That what I just said That insulting Yeah almost insulting you you got to come up with a better number than i could they don if you unmoved there is i don believe there a number that could move a guy i don i do i do i know i know to move a guy what five million for the dunk contest they moving they moving for extra five whether it be Anthony Edwards I mean who else is a a pre-new all-star that has that kind of creativity and excitement when it comes to dunking Joe? Zion you gonna put Zion in there? Zion you gonna put John Moran you gonna get Jada extra five? Yeah they gonna go I guarantee you I bet you let's bet it's different now Ocho what motivates guys if it ain't in you no amount of money can get you to do it it ain't in them I like that it ain't in them I like that but I know for that for that 5 they're going to get that people quick to say they quick to talk about Jordan and Kobe and all these guys they were doing it when the winner got 25,000 yeah this is a different time huh this is a different time exactly that's my point they make so much that's why i said think about it them guys make more in endorsements than probably jordan made in his career in two years of endorsements now i'm not talking about what jordan i'm talking about jordan's salary i'm not talking about what jordan did with nike that's a whole different issue right and we know and congratulations to jump me but jody it ain't Why do you think they stopped doing it? And the risk of being judged and the risk of being losing. They don't want that. The same thing I said, the same thing about it, Ocho. When we did the Pro Bowl joke, the loser got 5,000, the winner got 10,000. And then it went to 25, then it went to 30, then it went to 50. It went to 100,000 and the guys still wouldn't do it. Them guys, when you start making the kind of money that they're making, that they making. And I think another thing that plays a major part in this is that it's mid-season. This is our only break that we get. A lot of guys ain't willing to, you know, be out there. They really want to rest. They really want to go off and do something else. I'm going to Jamaica, Cancun, somewhere. Right, right. So look, Ocho, think about this. So All-Star Weekend, I'm in a dunk contest. It's the only event I'm doing. this Saturday night, man, that's going to cut into my plans, partner, for All-Star Weekend. If the money was the issue, don't you think these shoes companies, Adidas, Puma, Skatcher, Jumpman, Nike, don't you think they can say, hey, Ant-Man, I got an extra five, ten million, you win the dunk contest. You don't think they'd ruin the money? Of course they would. They not moving. It don't move them. It's got to be in you. You got to want to do it. Money can't be the incentive. Man, think about what they get. Joe, how else do y'all get paid? Money is the incentive. Come on now. Money is the incentive. So you get paid the first and the 15th. So a guy that's making $50 million a year. Right. Plus when you tap on what he's doing in endorsements. Okay, let's just say we're going to be generous. Another $20, $30 million. So he's making somewhere between $80 and $115 million. and all of a sudden you think, whoa, five million really does it for me. He could do a car signing. God, they doing no money. Hold on. Hold on. I think we got... Hold on. David Falk. Yeah, I knew about him. He told a story that Jordan had an opportunity, somebody offered Jordan to show up for three hours, offered him $100 million. Jordan said, no, I'm good. $100 million, Ocho. So you just told me money moved people. $100 million for three hours. Now, we cannot compare Jordan. Three hours. Oh, Joe, stop it. Let me ask you a question. That's different. We talk about Michael Jordan. Three hours. The greatest. Three hours. $100. And he said no. it's michael jordan 100 million ain't moving him so you think five million moving the guy that making 130 million dollars thank you i appreciate that i don't like the comparison in jordan the players that are playing today i don't like that comparison you make my point because jordan was going to do it for 25 and you think the money and you think that's what's going to do it for them extra money jordan was making three million dollars in contract plus he's probably making at that time, he had Hanes, he had Gatorade, he had Nike. Let's just be generous and say he was doing $20 million, $30 million. So he's doing $33 million. These guys, some of these guys are doing three, four times that. Mmm. Like I said, if it meant something to these guys, if it meant something to the shoe companies, they'd do it. Say, Ant-Man, you win this thing? Or Jordan Brand, you win this thing? Because the superstars are participating in the three-point competition. They got some guys that shouldn't be in the three-point competition, but they're in it. But you get Steph. As long as you get Steph, you get Dane. Knepo now, he's going to be a regular participant. You get Donovan. Hey, Ant-Man, because Ant-Man led the league in three-point competitions. I just think the thing now, Mocho, is that the guys, the money doesn't move the guys. You got to want to do something. Because like you said, money, I don't believe money moves people. not when you get to a certain level. I mean, you gotta really break it worth my while to get me up off my couch, Ocho. Hey. You gotta get it up off my body, you gotta get it. With the weight of eight, I mean, you know, I ain't listening, with the weight of them boy, they spin, that extra five ain't gonna hurt, I can tell you that. He ain't gonna go that, he ain't going no extra five though. No. I'll go to Phoenix and get that little M. Joe, hey, let me get the three-point competition. Yeah, I get that shit. I go out there and do something, participate in something. Hey, hey, Joe. What's up? Hey, matter of fact, hey, Unk, and since you gonna be down, right, like you down and out for a little bit, you gotta go into the night. You could like, like me and Joe could play one-on-one for a million. Boy, look. What do you think about that, Unk? Hey, Unk, Unk, Unk, Unk, Unk, Unk, Unk, put an extra million on it, I won't let his ass go. Hey, hey, hey, Joe. Hey, Joe said I'll be the easiest money I ever made. What? I'm just saying that. That'd be good. Hey, Joe, I'll play hard as hell, Joe. It's okay. You can play hard. That ain't going to mean nothing. Hey, Joe. Hey, I'll play like my life on the line, Joe. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. You still will have a chance. You will have a chance. Hey, Joe, let me ask you something, though. What's up, bro? With all due respect, I know you're one of the better players of all time. You know? you have the opportunity to go into the Hall of Fame. But you think if we go to 11, you think I ain't going to score one point, Joe? If I don't want you to, nah, you won't. You don't think so? Nah. Like, Joe, slightly, with all due respect, I really think... But because I like you, I think you're a good guy, I'm willing to probably ease up, give you about two points. You lucky enough to get you at least a point or two. You know what I mean? But if I ain't want you to score, you wouldn't score, partner. I don't like that, Joe. That's okay. What you say? What you say? Oughtales? Lightweight Joe? Collard greens? Cornbread? Neckbone? Fried chicken? Pork chops? Collard greens? Mac and cheese? Hey, hey, hey, hey, I don't mean no disrespect, but he lightweight disrespecting me telling me I can't score a point. I know you're NBA player. I know you want to- I'm just keeping it real. I know it sounds like disrespect, but it ain't- It do. Hey, hey, hey, Joe, hey, Joe, I'm taking it as disrespect. I'm telling you, Joe. Well, take it how you want to take it, Ocho. Shit, take it how you want to take it. We can get to it, boy. I'm telling you. I'm coming to see you, boy. I'm coming to Miami, boy. I'm going to come down there and slay some dragons home, boy. I'm coming to see you, man. Don't get me turned up, because you know when you get me turned up, you can't turn me down. All the way turned up. Hey, we done created a monster zone. I don't know. Hey, we done created a monster zone. It's the chat fault, too. Come on, Joe. Joe, for real Joe? See? Damn it, damn it. He done pissed me off. He done pissed me off, I tried to be cool with y'all, but now I'm sick of it. He done pissed me off. See what I'm saying, Joe? We was good. Hey, we had to get that out of the way, we was good for my career. Nah, damn all that. Nah, nah, I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it. Hey, Ocho. What's up? I promise you, boy, I had a great day in therapy today too. I was pushing that sled, pushing it down, pulling it back, with that weight on there. now yes sir i promise you boy come hey joe hey joe i i don't i don't like you telling me i'm not gonna score ain't nobody finna tell me what i'm not gonna do against my will joe i'm gonna score a point i'm gonna score maybe two maybe three at least you can say i told you partner at least you can say man he told me yeah hey joe hey joe hey hey real real talk as a grown-ass man joe what's What's up, bro? Like, you slightly disrespected me. That's okay. That's okay. You can be disrespected. You still gonna get this work home, boy. All right. All right. Well, when you come, when you finish with therapy? When you finish with therapy? I'm gonna send you the date. As soon as we get out of here, I'm gonna text you the dates on your phone, partner. Yeah, all right. Yeah. How much are you putting on the game? Anything that make you nervous. Come on, talk to me. Well, hey, don't nothing make me nervous, right? I'm good, Joe. What you want to do? Make it light on yourself. Call it, man. What you want me to get from it? How much you want me to get from it? I'll be healing up. You want me to get, hey, hey, hey, why I'm mad at, I'm gonna get your 5,900 too, why I'm mad at it. Oh yeah, give my 5,900 while you at it, Joe. Yeah, I'm gonna get your 5,900 plus tax. Hey, we do. And make sure, so it ain't no excuses, make sure we bring cash to the court. Oh, say less. Yeah, make sure we bring cash to the court. Yeah. Say less. Okay. Hey, I don't know. Hey, I don't know somebody- I'm gonna let you out of crowd a little while long. You get my 50,000 hundred, Joe. Oh, say, I got you, huh? I got you. Yeah, I'm glad. So y'all teaming up against me? Okay, bet. Bet. Hey, I've been alone with you all my life. I thought you and Joe, you the one that challenged that man. I ain't got nothing to do with this. I'm injured. I'm injured. Hey, but I didn't hear you chipped in. I didn't hear you chipped in by letting him be the king a little bit longer. Okay, okay, bet. Yeah. Hey, hey, hey, Ocho, Ocho. I earned my respect homeboy, I took what I wanted. You know what I'm talking about? Right, I hear you. I hear you, wait listen, I'm gonna tell you what, I'm gonna take what I want too and I'm gonna earn my respect. Okay, all right. Joe, we got to get you a nightcap sign. You got a wall back there, Joe? Yeah, I got one. I can put it up right there. You go, hey, you gotta put it on, cause you know, Ocho, Ocho. Oh, you don't even know he got one. Nah, my sign worked though. Oh, here he go. we can't see that that ain't so far to focus hey don't worry don't worry remember remember they do them they do them a room they do them a room at the end uh at the end of this month boy they been doing that no they been doing that room no i said they coming to do it They got other they do other jobs My dates aren scheduled to the end of February You do realize that's like in two days? Yeah, the end of February. They'll be here. I'm having to do my- So you said they're going to be there on Friday or Saturday? Yeah, it'll take two weeks. Okay. But yeah, boy, this dude got me bent, what? Who? You. I mean, yeah, yeah. That's what it's going to feel like on that goddamn court playing with me. That's what it's going to feel like. With all due respect. Now, you ain't going to tear me. I ain't going to score no one, two points. Like I'm not an elite athlete. What you talking about, man? It's me. Just keeping it 100, my boy. Nah, you ain't keeping it 100. Man, all right. Hey, Joe, you got me. Man, I almost curse, boy. And I don't even curse no more. I don't even curse no more. I almost curse, boy. New Ravens head coach Jesse Mentor hopes to change players' attitude towards OTAs. He said today, first of all, I do have total respect for the rules that it is voluntary. Totally understand that. And Lamar has an unbelievable success doing it both ways. And so there's certainly a balance there. But I think it's our job is to create an environment and a learning opportunity where they feel like it's really important for them to be there. Ocho? What's up? We had sound? We didn't have the sound of that, did we? Okay. What did you think of Ocho? What did Mr. Singh say? He said he understands that it's totally voluntary. And he understands. Right. And he understands Lamar has had success doing it both ways. But he said, I think it's our job is to create an environment and a learning opportunity where they feel like it's really important to them to want to be there. Hmm. Yeah. I like, I like, I like, I like the words. It's all up to Lamar, whatever Lamar wants to do. I mean, it would behoove him being at his new system, his new officer coordinator, new coaches. I'm sure everybody, I mean, they will have 100% attendance, even though it is voluntary. Because I think, you know, man, look, I'm trying, well, you didn't have a coach because Marvin was there your whole tenure. So you didn't have a coach. Well, no, remember I had Dick LeBeau first. Oh, you're right. You're right. You're right. You're right. Yeah, I had Dick LeBeau first. You're right. You're absolutely right, Ocho. And then you got Marvin. And so as long as you don't change head coaches, because you get changed head coaches, you get three. You get to have three camps. Yeah. It's going to be interesting. I think Lamar is going to show up just for the simple facts that, you know what? they're working on it. Eric DaCosta is like, look, me and Lamar had a great conversation over the years. We don't really talk about the contract. We just get it done. We're going to keep that thing. But I do think Lamar is going to show up. They don't really do anything. They don't do anything. And plus, I think it gives them a head start on learning the offense. It's a totally new offense. Me, I kind of like keeping the same coach because I like the same offense on Joe. So that way I didn't have to show up. Right. That's why that was the only reason I liked it, Joe, because I didn't want to show up. But look, and look, they're very motivated to get a deal done with Lamar. Lamar's finna jump. He's finna jump Josh Allen. We know what Josh got. Lamar's finna get that and some. They ain't going to play with him, is he? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Nope. Because the faster you can get that done, the better off things will be around. He probably, you know, new system, new coach. You want to get everybody acclimated. And nothing gets you acclimated and make you want to show up, Ocho, like $300 million, huh? L-O. When $100 million hit your bank account, damn, y'all really wanted me to show up. I don't mind if I do. Hey, it's a different world. Yeah, hey. I'd have never thought – if somebody would have told me when free agency hit back in 93, that was the first year of it, that the salary would get to where – I'm like, man, get the hell out of here. These guys are getting contracts for what these owners purchase teams for. I mean, you could buy a team. I mean, back in the 80s, you could buy a team for $60 million. Hey, but hold up. You remember in the NBA coming in as rookies, they used to didn't have no salary cap. You used to could sign a $60, $70 million deal. Yeah. Big dog, what are the last ones to get that contract? Yeah, yeah, yeah. They had to put that salary cap on there real quick. Hold on, hold on before this thing get out of hand. Well, it used to be, oh, Joe, well, you know, it used to be there was no salary cap on rookies. Sam Braffitt was the highest paid player, and he was a rookie. Yeah. Yeah, and we went to the Rams first, right? And then you know how they did it. They're like, no, you know what? We don't think that's right. We want to put a rookie cap, and that'll keep more vets. They put a rookie cap on the quarterbacks and then cut the vets. Right. Oh, boy. It's crazy business. But no, I think Lamar's going to show up. I think he's going to be very motivated to show up when they give him that Josh Allen money. 250, 260 million guaranteed 120 130 at the time of signing Yeah, I'm gonna show up I'm gonna, Steve, you know what? You and I have been working great together Let's continue this relationship Because Lamar's 29 Who's to say, oh, show it another four years He can't get another contract Yeah Damn, he's just 29 for real? boy's young boy yeah and then win the MVP win a Super Bowl see y'all in training camp I see y'all for that mandatory one in June I'm just telling you I win the MVP we win the championship I'll never do an OTA's again I'll see you in June An anonymous NFL GM says he's not remotely interested in Tyreek Hill, even at the vet minimum. We aren't touching him. No chance. We think he's done. He isn't a difference maker anymore. The juice isn't worth the squeeze. Not even as a vet minimum guy for us. What? Wow. Vet minimum is a million dollars. Coming out for ACL. How old is Tyreek? He got ACL, MCL, a broken tibia. How old is he, Unc? 31. I think he's 31. He got some juice left. He got a whole lot of juice left. How old is he? He's 31. He'll be 32. He'll be 32 on March 1st. Yeah. Is it March 1st? He's 31 right now. How old is he right now? Hey, Joe and Unc, When I hear owners say stuff like this, I would so love to know exactly where the source came from or who the owner actually is. It was the GM. It was the GM. Hey, GM in general, they're always anonymous. They're always anonymous. I would love to see what receivers he has on his squad where he thinks even Tyreek Hill coming back off injury ain't better than what we got out there right now. I think he would be, Ocho, if he wasn't coming off serious injuries. He's coming off a serious injury. and he's about to be 32 in three days. With that being said, at minimum, I think it's a steal. Now, I'm not going much above that, Ocho, given what he's coming back off of. What about what he looks like after injury? Well, he did that in week four. Coming in, seeing him wrong. What do you have? We know he had a broken tibia. We know he had an ACL. Were there any other ligaments? were there a MCL were there any meniscus damage LCL yeah he said motivatorial ligaments so we know the ACL okay guys come back from the ACL it's those small and so did they repair it Ocho did they give him a cadaver how they take part of the patella because you know they take part of the patella tendon and they reattach it so it's interesting to see what all he had done they said multiple ligaments now we know the ACL we don't know if it's the MCL, the LCL we don't know if it's any of those but we assume, now we don't know which other ligaments corresponding ligaments it is we also know he broke his leg the fibula so it's an uphill climb but athletes I mean you know they know we know how to rehab we know how to get back and if there's a will if there's a way he'll do it but I do think for a million dollars I mean for because that's the minimum mocho oh yeah for a million dollars I'm definitely doing it now I don't know if you'll go there for a million dollars but I'm saying no no no absolutely not Now, I think he's going to do it right, Uncle Joe. Depending on how he looks, he'll be back over there with Andy Reid and Mahomes and Eric Biennium because he's familiar with the system. They're going to know how to use him. It'd be perfect. It'd be perfect for him because he doesn't have to be the one to shoulder the burden. Yeah, you're going to be all right. It's just the thing is, Ochoa, man. Yeah. if they ever get a chance to get you while you're down, you best believe. Oh, they coming. Man. Oh, they coming. Don't. That's what I'm saying. And that's what I would advise the guys. Guys, keep, be as gracious as you possibly can. I know sometimes it gets hard. But. Yeah. You always want to give them, like, you know what? We like, hey, he never given anybody any problem. He's a great locker room guy. He's competitive. Mm-hmm. man when when you coming off an injury and there's like well you yeah thank you a problem in the locker room and you got a lot of stuff going on because they're looking for a reason though they just don't give them a reason oh always looking for a reason and if if there is no reason they gonna create one um it's like as a coach you want to say something to listen here don't cut yourself let us do that like know where you're supposed to be do what you're supposed to do be on time but you make my job real easy when you don't know what you're supposed to do you're not where you're supposed to be and you're not on time you really make my job easy make it difficult on me thanks make it so I have to like damn I don't, you know, look, I understand. I think with a little, you know, with a little time, this guy might turn into a pretty good player for us. As opposed to like, nah, nah. I can't do it. So. This is the biggest night in podcasting.
