This episode of Real Ghost Stories Online features caller stories about Ouija board experiences, including a dramatic account of multiple boards being used simultaneously at a college campus that allegedly caused a power transformer to explode. The hosts discuss Ouija board conventions, paranormal phenomena, and listener experiences with unexplained events.
Insights
- Ouija board experiences often gain momentum through social proof and peer pressure, with initial small gatherings escalating into large crowds seeking paranormal activity
- Witnesses of paranormal events often remain skeptical as a coping mechanism to rationalize unexplained phenomena rather than accept supernatural explanations
- Shared paranormal experiences within families (like the caller whose sister confirmed similar visions) provide validation that makes witnesses question their skepticism
- Unexplained electrical failures coinciding with paranormal activity create compelling narratives that resist conventional scientific explanation
- People are more willing to share paranormal experiences when they learn others have had similar encounters, reducing social stigma around discussing the unexplained

Carol•Post-story analysis
"What could go wrong? What can get worse than where we're at right now in our world? Like, Ouija con at the La Quinta, let's fucking do it."
Todd•Ouija convention planning discussion
"I don't know if I really believe in ghosts or if I believe that there's something from another plane that comes here periodically and we can see it or what. Because what I have seen and felt didn't feel like a ghost. It felt like something else."

This is Real Ghost Stories Online. That it is in 855-853-4802. I had so many questions running through my mind after I just did that intro about more boards, more people, more chaos or whatever of Ouija boards. Are there ever Ouija board conventions? Do people ever, is there a Ouija con? I'm going to look this up. Like, I'm curious. Seems like there would have been. Because you always hear just the stories about one Ouija board experience. Yeah. There's not multiple boards and multiple things happening. but i mean there are you know like paracons and spiritual um conferences and stuff like that so i would think that there's probably ouija boards there but there was a ouija con in 2015 in baltimore oh it was the 125th anniversary drew over a hunt only 150 people oh my god well that were alive well that i don't booch sorry well that's interesting um that would be an interesting prank phone call quite honestly of how would that go calling the local like holiday inn uh or the ramada or whatever that has a ballroom whatever it may be the la quinta and uh you know like yeah we are we're looking to we're going to have a convention we're wanting to rent it out uh it's OuijaCon 26. What's OuijaCon? Well, we bring people in. They bring Ouija boards in, and we communicate with the deceased. And sometimes we talk with our loved ones. You know, my aunt, I talked to her last week. She's doing really good up there in heaven. She's been going to the Pomida in heaven, and she found a great two-for-one last week on bugles. She loves those bugles. She still sticks them on her fingers in heaven. even though she lost her pinky finger in a horrible accident on the farm back in 78. But it didn't involve a farm equipment. It involved actually, it involved my cousin Ned, who had a mental deficiency. He bit her finger off. But in heaven, she's got all five, and she's putting the beagles in all five up there. And then sometimes we also, you know, we summon Beelzebub. I thought you were going to say it wasn't farm equipment. She fell down in the cistern because we were talking about that before. Fell down in the cistern. But so I talked to my aunt, but we also sometimes summon the Dark Lord. And he comes in and he gives us advice about what to do, gives sometimes some really good diet advice. And he's the one who coined the whole movement of more protein. So we... Where did that come from? I was just going to say, we'd be interested in some kind of light refreshments, you know, nothing too heavy, you know, because we want to be light and spry while we're on the Ouija board. He's also created Visa. It's everywhere you want to be because he's everywhere you want to be. There you go. Yeah. And so you do something like that. But I wonder if it'd be difficult to set up. I wonder if that's the reason there hasn't been more Ouija board cons, because there seems to be a con for everything. Because I wonder if the venues are just like, yeah, no, we're not going to do that. Do you think people just don't go to it? I mean, who'd want to go to a Ouija con? I mean, a lot of people. You think so? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I mean, Salem has a whole witch board museum. Sure. I mean, are people just to afford me? That would be the same people. there's a level of fear there with the Ouija board to a certain extent where people are curious but they're not necessarily going to actionably you know use it uh at least in public so maybe that's maybe there's that element to it too I don't know I could just see a lot of play like there's hotels like you go to um like the uh um the Crescent in uh in Eureka Springs that we've been to there's like a sign. What I remember when I was there several years ago, if I'm remembering correctly, I think I am. But there was something where it was like no Ouija boards allowed in the rooms. I think so. I think I've seen that there. I don't know. I could see places being like, yeah, we're not fucking around with that. We're not allowed. The KKK is not having a convention in the La Quinta and neither is the Ouija board people. We're just like, there's certain things we're not going to touch because we're just not going to touch. I don't know. I'm curious if anybody we should just start calling Best Westerns right now. If I had like the phone line to just do it. If Skype was still around. Skype's gone now. I looked up Satan Con because I think that would be on the same level. That would be. Yeah, you could do like a two for one weekend really. But in 2023 they had an event in Boston. 800 people showed up. Oh. You know your Ouija Con right next to it, you know. I think you have maybe like a red roof in. It was at the Boston Marriott. So I mean, it was a pretty big place. Well, if the Marriott is allowing SatanCon, I think they would allow for the Ouija board. Yeah. Ouija board. I don't know. I mean, do you think they book it under SatanCon or do you think they book it under something else? When you're having the conversation with like the event planner, it's like, yes, it's SatanCon. Well, you tell them it's Satan. Like we like to do crafts. Or it's like it's a religious organization. I don't know. Like, how do you pitch that? I don't know. We're with the IBLP. We're going to be coming in for a little weekend get together. Oh, you guys again. Come on in. Come on. Okay. Jim Bob's going to be here. Awesome. Great. Okay. We're going to not let our daughters come to work that weekend. Your daughter to work day has been canceled. It's the IBLP weekend. there's some people that get that and some that don't if you don't hidden killers with tony brusky watch the dugger episodes you'll understand it's scarier than any of this shit uh let's go to a ghost story at uh 855-853-4802 hi hi guys this is uh philip from the fort worth area and I have a story I'd like to share with you guys. Well, this story happened back in the very early 90s when I was going to college my first time in a small college up in northern Oklahoma. Very small town. Really the only thing to do in that town was to go to Sonic, which was right across the street from the campus. So other than that, there really wasn't much to do in that very small town. So a lot of times what we'd end up doing is just walking around the campus with our friends in the evening times to pass instead of studying like we probably should have been. But anyway, we would we were out walking with just a few of our friends, maybe three or four friends one evening. And they had just built a new gazebo that they put out in the middle of the courtyard out there on campus. And so a lot of times we would frequent that gazebo out there. Well one of my friends suggested that they thought it would be a good idea if they went to their room and brought back out the Ouija board Of course And the rest a few of us were like I don't know, I don't think that's a really good idea. But, you know, the majority wanted to do it, so you know how peer pressure is. Well, anyway, curiosity got the best of us, so we decided to kind of stick around just to see what was going on. So they got the Ouija board and they started using it right in the center of the gazebo. And like I said, at first, there was only like five, four or five, six of us. And as students would walk around the campus, they saw all of us congregating in the gazebo. So, of course, they came up to see what was going on. And then five, you know, turned into 10 to eventually 15 to 20. and there was pretty big crowd that actually ended up wandering up to the middle of this gazebo while this Ouija board was going on. And, you know, to kind of make a long story short, a second board popped up from somewhere and they had two boards going on simultaneously in the middle of the gazebo. and of course this caused more people to show up and you know and then there was a third board that popped up so there's three Ouija boards being used at the same time in the middle of this gazebo at three different tables in the middle of this gazebo and I mean there probably was I would say What started off as four or five maybe ended up to like 100 students who ended up walking out just to see what was going on. And there was a lot of gas going on. And I remember thinking to myself, this is the most bizarre thing I had ever seen. And then just out of nowhere, we heard this great big loud boom. And right above us, the power transformer that lit, that gave light to the whole courtyard, just suddenly blew. Sparks were flying everywhere. This caused all the students that were gathered around to scatter. I mean, when people were running over each other, tripping over each other, running, crying, praying. Oh, God, I'm so sorry. I know I should have never should have did this. They kind of scattered, and everybody kind of went back to their perspective dorms. Well, after about 15, 20 minutes after we kind of caught our breath, some of us, we decided to venture back out there just to see what was going on. And as we went back out there, the power company had shown up, and they was out there, you know, checking out the blown transformer. and from what we were told from some of the power people that was working, they could not figure out what caused that transformer to blow. It made no sense. There was no type of electrical problems or anything, but the ones that were there, we knew what caused that thing to blow. and that was a very very bizarre situation i think there's i'm sure there's someone out there that's listening to the same podcast that was there and could call in and and you know confirm this story because i'm sure that there was enough people out there that that they said that they all witnessed what happened it was a very very bizarre event and that's the story i'll share with you this time, I have a ton more. And I'd be so happy to call up and share at another time. So thanks. God bless. Todd was laughing so hard during that. I couldn't quit watching you. Because two things. Number one, when he went boom really loud, I flashed back. I repeat, it went bang. I went back to our radio days. We had a news director who loved to use actualities in his newscasts. And it literally was written, spectators or witnesses say there was a loud bang. And then he played the sound click of somebody saying, it went bang. I'll say again, bang. And that was his actuality after he just said that. So when he went boom in the story, I lost it on that. But then I'm also like, they couldn't figure out the power. People couldn't figure out what that, what happened with the transformer. It was the fucking Ouija boards. Okay. Like this is why the fucking transformer blew, you know? So I think it's really strange though, that you get three Ouija boards going and I get how people you're in a town. There's nothing going on. And they see people gathered at this gazebo area. so I get how you would get a crowd I've just never heard of like let's bring another Ouija board and a transformer blowing is really loud according to him it was boom it was bigger than bang it went boom it was boom I was waiting for him to do that let me say that again boom Boom. Oh, Greg Stensland, we love you. Yep. Yep. Oh, yeah. That was the weirdest thing, though. I think it, yeah, I mean, that's an interesting case study, I guess, in this idea. I don't know. I think I kind of want to put together the OuijaCon. All right. and see who we can. I'll support that. Why not at this point? I don't know. I mean, at this point, why not? I think you're going to be like, no, Ouija awareness we can't. Like, I don't fucking care. Like, we're already in like, you know, hell's handbasket as it is, so let's. Why not? Why not? What could go wrong? What can get worse than where we're at right now in our world? Like, Ouija con at the La Quinta, let's fucking do it. Why not? I think we've got to find a holiday in Holodome. We've got to do it in a Holodome because they've got the gazebos in the Holodomes. In the Holodome. Yep. Lots of candles. It'd be great. It'd be wonderful. The Holodome gets torched at the end of the thing. Yep. We'll use fake. We'll use plastic candles in the Holodome. And then that can't go wrong. And then we'll also have a bridal expo at the same time. not only can you not only can you summon the dead but you can also book your dj right over here we take on and bridal expo in the holodome two for one event right let's call terry i think this is going to be the event of the year terry we got an idea for you NTR, this is the fucking thing. You think high school sports is supporting radio now? Wait till the OuijaCon wedding event of the year at the Holodome. Oh, my God, the sponsors. There's sponsorships left on this. I bet we can get Edith's. Oh, they'll be there. And the crazy lady from the Octagon House will take the other side. Is she still alive? I don't know, but I found out what happened to it. They actually sold it. And now it's a group home for men who are moving away from like alcoholism and stuff like that. The Octagon House? Yeah. Yeah. Oh, fuck. Yeah. Oh, God. Yeah. Wow. Now, I'm not knocking the idea of this. No, not at all. That there are homes like that. That's wonderful. I'm just looking at it as the emotionally paranormally charged building that is the Octagon House being surrounded by addicts I mean that are trying to recover I'm going to say doing this show for more than a decade there does seem to be some issues there where those two things don't mix super well Might not have a really good recovery coming out of that thing. Where it's not the best environment. Exactly. For such a, well, I wish them the best without a doubt. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, yeah, I mean, that's wonderful that somebody, again, not knocking that concept, but. Yeah, I don't know. It's kind of like, I don't know. You're playing with kindling there. and uh and things that catch fire really quickly i don't know well that's great um what's what what's what's going on with marlene's up in the by my parents house is that still around i don't know my parents might know that yeah that was something else like the silver wheel manor or something like that i used to ride my bike by it as i would go to the cemetery and walk around as a child and these are true true statements i would i would write because marlene's had this place it was like she had a costume shop and it was like a ranch type thing and there was kind of a it was a weird i don't know what the fuck it was nobody could really classify it she showed up on a couple like history channel docs and was like we still don't quite know what the fuck she does here um but it was just a weird place um but i would ride my my bike right past it then i'd go over to the cemetery directly across the street, go visit my grandmother's grave before she was buried in it, but I knew where it was because she would always point it out to us on Sundays when we go for a walk that where I going to be buried in that shelf right there um and then uh then go further down to Ryanzi um and you wonder why I am the way I am yeah there you go life in Fond du Lac Wisconsin um yeah there you go fucked up uh let's go to another phone call and by the way I'm going to check out right now. You guys can wrap up the program. I have to go to see Howard Jones and Rod Stewart because of course I would be going and seeing that. So this is love we're waiting for. I need an everlasting love. That's Howard Jones in case you're like, what was Howard Jones singing? That was one of them. And then of course, Rod Stewart, you know, Rod Stewart. So who's going to bring you a broken fucking arrow? All right. All right, I'm out. Let's hear a ghost story, and I'll see you guys later. This is Holly. I live in New Mexico. I've always considered myself a skeptic, but strangely enough, I've had a lot of really odd things happen in my life since I was an infant. I'm going to tell you a few of those because I think they've shaped me, and they continue to shape me when I remember them. My earliest experience was I was living in this very small, very old house with all my family. I have three older sisters, my mom and my dad and my brother. And apparently my crib was set under a ceiling heater vent. But when I was a baby, I remember being absolutely terrified watching this billowing hand come down out of the vent and suspend itself over me like in a clutching position like it was going to reach down and grab me but then I also saw around my crib several people um they I don't even know if they were people but they were all in dark cloaks and it hid their faces and they were just like um black figures standing around. And this still scares me to this day. I get goosebumps. My hair stands on end when I remember it, because it was only a few years ago that I relayed this story to my eldest sister and she, her eyes got huge and she started to shake and she said, oh my God, He saw that too. So that was, let me tell you that that was a really bizarre moment. I don't think I've ever been more shocked in my life because I thought this was somehow some dream that I had concocted in my head. And yet it feels so real, so visceral that I can, I can feel it. I mean, I really can. Anyway, that was my very first experience. The second thing that I experienced that was really, really, really terrifying was when I was much older and I was not being good. I broke out of my parents' house through a window and I was grounded. I wasn't supposed to be going anywhere. And I was walking around at night. It was like three in the morning and it was all dark. And there's this really weird weather going on where the sky actually looked red. I think that there had been a fire in the forest for several days. And for some reason, it just, it made the sky look red and I thought it was super cool and, you know, and everything. So I was cruising around and I started to feel like somebody was walking behind me and I kept looking over my shoulder and there was nobody there. And I kept thinking, okay, just, just go a little faster. You know, whoever it is, you'll hear them. You'll hear their footsteps speed up. And I went faster and I didn't hear anything, but I felt something like almost the breath on the back of my neck, but not quite, not quite that close. But it was like I could hear something breathing nearby and I started to run. And then I heard footsteps and they were just as fast as mine. And I was absolutely terrorized. And I ran home and I even ran around back because I was afraid to go around front. And I peered around the house and nothing followed me. And I waited there for a long, long time before I finally went through my window again and shut it and locked it and pretended that never happened, but it did. And I have a lot of other things that have happened to me in my life since then, but I think I'll save those for another time if I ever call back again. But I guess what I'm trying to say is, even though I've managed to remain skeptical about a lot of things, I have had enough experiences in my life that make me question even my own skepticism. I don't know if I really believe in ghosts or if I believe that there's something from another plane that comes here periodically and we can see it or what. Because what I have seen and felt didn't feel like a ghost. It felt like something else. It was not just the spirit, in my opinion. I just don't know what to think about that. Anyway, I love your show and I'm really enjoying listening to all these stories and learning about other people's experiences. And, oh, so many of us feel so weird, you know, and it's nice to know we're not alone. Thank you. Bye. So what do you think? Could that be like that, like a different dimension sort of thing is what she's thinking? That one thing, though, when she snuck out of the house, that did feel kind of paranormal. Yeah. Like something wanted her to get home and scare her to get back to her house. I, you know, I think when I, when I first started doing ghost hunting or paranormal investigations, I thought, you know, there are ghosts and then there's not ghosts and bubble. And now I just, I think it's all energy. And I think some of it is energy from past people who've lived in the past. I think some of its energy that's around us from other things that we just don't fricking know. Um, you know, I think it's easy to label something, something just to have a label on it. And I think that to do that is kind of silly because there's just too much that we don't quite understand. I also liked her final line where she says, sometimes you think you're a little crazy because the stuff happens to you and not everybody talks about it. And I think the other thing too is like, we're afraid to share this stuff because we think other people will think we're weird. But then once you let your guard down enough to talk about it, you find out other people have those same experiences. Like when I first met you, Carol, and you know, we'd done a bunch of ghost story shows together. I didn't realize how haunted your house was growing up. I had no fricking clue. Yeah. You know, I think it's interesting too. like she had the experiences at the house when she was really, really little. And then her sister confirmed that she had had similar experiences. So that kind of confirms what she had experienced, but I don't even know how to define that either. Like something that looks like a hand coming out of the ceiling fan. Was it, it was a ceiling vent. Yeah. And then like some, what Druid people or something. That's creepy. I think that's creepy. Right. Yeah. And then her sister sees the same thing. I don't know how you explain that. And I'd really, I don't know her sister, but I can't imagine she's like, Oh yeah, I saw that too. Right. Right. You know, that's not the kind of thing you normally fess up to. Yeah. Cause it does make you sound like you're a little nuts. Right. So that gives you confirmation. but then I also get her whole thing, you know, still being a skeptic because sometimes I think if you stay in that skeptic realm, then none of that stuff is really happening. And so none of that's really real and that's easier to digest. Then there could be things out there that we don't understand. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. The minute they tell us that for sure there's aliens and they're living among us, I'm cashing in. I'm just telling you right now, I'm going to cash it in and that'll be it for me. That's any black eyed kid story or that type of thing. I think they're all aliens. I think those are alien stories. I even wonder about like Bigfoot and stuff, you know, and all that. I don't know that I would say an alien, but I wonder if it's from maybe a different planet or a different plane. and they just kind of slip in and out of our timeline, you know? And I think actually Bigfoot could be some kind of creature that exists, you know? Because when you go to like Missouri or Oregon, there's just so much space that is so foresty that like anything could get lost back in there. It just seems like there would be some definitive proof. In this day and age, I would think with all the technology we have, we'd actually get a good picture of Sasquatch. You know, it wouldn't be that grainy photo of them walking off to the side, you know, and in a field someplace. You're not sure exactly what that is. It's just a little brown pixelated dot on the screen. yeah because there's that one from the 60s that is maybe 70s that's kind of supposedly i can't and it's like the gruber photo or something like that yeah um and i said i'm like okay could be but it could be a guy in a costume i don't know but if you really this is going off on a tangent but if you look at it it looks like it has uh excuse the language but it looks like it has female breasts and they kind of swing in the whole thing Like it doesn look like just a costume to me So you saying a girl Bigfoot Yeah Because, yeah, I mean, there'd have to be a girl. And there would be babies. I wouldn't think so. Supposedly there was one not that long ago where somebody said they captured a baby Bigfoot. I didn't hear about that. Yeah. I would say within the last year I came across that. okay so where is it though i don't remember now i think it was in the u.s somewhere yeah but where's the baby bigfoot if you capture it right it would be there someplace well maybe they had like a deer stand camera set up or something like that i don't remember i thought you meant like capture it like they oh no no captured a photo okay photo of it gotcha i'm sorry yeah i should have made that clear that's okay i just i went right to you know there was a trap in the backyard kind of like tony and his what is he what is he trying to trap lately like groundhogs or something um oh yeah that would make sense yeah i don't know i don't know and like in her story i don't know what all of that was but sneaking out of the house and then feeling like someone is chasing you and they're right behind you and you can hear their footsteps. That is terrifying. I don't like that at all. I don't like that. And I see why after an experience like that, that could be super paranormal. You would still be, I'm a skeptic because you really don't want to understand what that was. You know what I mean? You're right. So I don't know.
