So I saw this story and I was like, you've got to be kidding me. This is really a thing. There's a trend that is taking hold. And the report came from Fortune magazine and it was talked about by Fox News here this week. The stay at home boyfriend is now an economic trend as more women than men go to work. And the reason they found is that fewer young men, Maggie, are entering the workforce than their fathers, their parents were. Is this a trend that you are noticing personally and what do you think about this? Yes, well, on the internet, we call those men meat, so they're not in education, employment, or training. I think a lot of men feel really bad about this. I think they're being financially supported, whether by parents or a girlfriend. God knows why that woman chose them. Then of course they can continue to do that. I think that's very disturbing. I would not have a stay at home boyfriend. Yeah. I think they're very comfortable with that. I think they're very comfortable with that. I think they're very comfortable with that. I think they're very comfortable with that. I would not have a stay at home boyfriend. Yeah. Well, I'll tell you what, if my three girls, if any of these girls come home one day and they're like, Hey, dad, I got a boyfriend. I want you to meet him. My first question is going to be, what does he do? Not that I'm going to judge what he does. Well, I could. I may. Okay. I admit I may. But at the very least, he better have a job or he better have a plan or a career in mind or something. He's got to have something. And if she introduces him or tells me he's her stay at home boyfriend, we got a real problem on our hands here, John. Interesting. They come up with a name for it. My grandparents had a name for that kind of stuff. You know, slacker, bum. Yeah. Low life. Yeah. Cheapskate, whatever. Yeah. Free load. Now suddenly you're a nice demographic representation. Represent, bro. Yes. Yes. Yes. So here are the numbers from this Fortune magazine article. Early nineties, men held nearly 7 million more jobs than women. The gap gradually shrank over three decades. It's now gone. We have a situation now as of early 26 that women hold more payroll jobs than men in the United States. So we can sit here and joke about this. And certainly, you know, there are plenty of laughs to be had, which do you want to insert a laugh track for me here before I go any further? No. Okay. All right. Well, what bothers me here and what really does concern me is that the quality of men, especially young men, is getting worse. And the problem with that is if you're someone like me and you've got three daughters, well, guess what? It takes two to tango. You want to be in a world one day where you have men who want women and women who have desirable men out there. And if there are fewer desirable men out there, that's not a good thing for women. It's not a good thing for the future growth of the country. And it's almost impossible to look at these numbers and not suggest the quality of the male has gone down over the last generation. I think it's an age old thing because I'm going to say there are probably some guys listening going, I've got it going fine. Girlfriend's paying for it. Six months from now, dude. This isn't working for me. And the guys go, what the hell happened? Yeah, right? You're along for the ride. This might be going okay for you for a while, but the woman's going to finally wake up. So your point about your daughters, we're seeing the reinvigoration of young men at least going back to church. So I'd say there's a divide here. It's kind of an age old problem. And it sounds like it's new when you call them needs or something, but they're just turds. So it's a bum, right? Here's what I would say because you're right to bring that up. There was actually a new Gallup poll that came out this morning that shows 42% of men age 18 to 29. Now say religion is very important in their lives. That is up from 28% just four years ago. So it's up 50% in young men who say religion is a very important part of their lives. Monthly religious attendance among young men has climbed to 40% up from 33. That's the highest level in over a decade. Being women for the first time. So the other way to interpret this is that there's a growing gap. Just like there is economically in this country, there's a growing gap. Like there's no middle ground anymore. You're either a really sharp young guy who hustles, who wants to go to church and or go to practice your faith or you're a free loading stay at home boyfriend bum. And like that middle ground, there's just really less in between. And we're seeing that socially, we're seeing that economically, we're seeing that religiously. Like the gaps are growing in everything that we do and partake in in life right now. Religiously, right? It's not like you either have people who are right now really leaning into their faith or are just like, never, no way, no how, none of it's real, you're crazy. Like there's not that middle ground. Politically, there's not really a lot of that anymore either. So maybe this trend is just part of what we're seeing broadly across the country, which is scary as well. Because if you don't get a good guy, well, you know what? Your other options, they're not that good right now. The stay at home boyfriend. And the other issue that we've had over the last generation. I understand we wanted to create a world and I say this once again as the father of three daughters, where young girls felt like, hey, whatever you want to do with your life career wise, you can do just like men. That's cool. That's great. But it felt like we did it at the expense of young men. And it never needed to be that way. It's not a zero sum game. We could have uplifted women and empowered women without having to drag down the guy. And what we've done is we've dragged down the man for at least a generation socially in Hollywood. You see it like when's the last time you saw a strong, powerful male father figure in some kind of show who's not a goofball or a drunk or has a big beer belly and makes fart jokes all day. You don't really see those guys. They just don't exist, John. Well, and to your point, we can talk about yes, women, you can do anything you want to in America. You have that opportunity. But then we went to demonizing those that chose not to access certain opportunities. That's a good point. That comes from within. Yes, you're right about that. And then it's like, well, if you don't want to be a Harrison Butcher, right? Yes. If you don't want to be the girl boss CEO, well, there's something wrong with you. It's like, no, no, no, no, no. Stop running the house as girl boss stuff. Exactly. You can still want what you want. You can take great pride and great satisfaction in a mother. And by the way, as someone who is fortunate to be able to walk home or walk into my house and see someone who is a stay at home mother, I can tell you right now, many days her job is a lot more difficult than this guy's job is. And there's a lot more up and downs in that job every day. And there can be a lot more stress in that job every day than any office you will walk into. But there also can be a lot more pride, a lot more satisfaction and a lot more meaning for many people in that job. You don't judge anybody. But to John's point, we have kind of done that judgment on the other side now and that pendulum has swung too far in the other direction. Let's line up all the stay at home boyfriends at 913-408-790. How do you guys do it? We don't want to do that because to John's point, you know, I think you are on your way to getting dumped. Yeah. And you say, what happened? Everything was going so well. It was all going great until it wasn't. Oh my gosh. 913-408-7957 is how you join us on KCMO Talk Radio 957 FM. We are streaming as always on the KCMO Talk Radio app. That is where you find us. A lot of texts coming in here as well. Pete, don't forget, payroll job is one thing, but some guys also have their own business. I get it. I understand what you are saying there, but the trend doesn't change. The trend of women outpacing men in college graduation rates, that's happening too right now. Some of that might be because guys also are doing, you know, more blue collar work or, you know, I say air quotes, blue collar. They are making a lot of money, but they are air quote, blue collar jobs. There is some of that going on too, but the trends are undeniable. 913-408-7957, stay at home boyfriends, picking up steam, story in Fortune magazine, the stay at home boyfriends now an economic trend. More women than men are going to work. And that is obviously a total about face from where we were just a generation ago. What does it mean? 913-408-7957, Jane and Lee Summit. Hello, Jane. Good morning. Morning. All right, Jane. The floor is yours. Hi. My son-in-law is a St. Louis detective and they are best friends. She is a junior partner in a law firm and her husband was on the SWAT team and when they had children, he decided to stay home to take care of the kids because daycare is so expensive. That makes total sense, Jane. And that's not in any way what I'm talking about because the stay at home boyfriend implies you're just dating and there's no children in the picture, right? But stay at home dad when mom makes more money and the daycare math doesn't really work out and makes sense for both of you to keep working. To me, a totally different conversation and I agree with you that that makes a lot of sense. But that's not, to me, that's different from the stay at home boyfriend. Oh, yeah. You know? So I'm with you there, Jane. It's a good call but I'm glad you brought it up because I'm sure some listeners were thinking the same thing. I've got friends I know that if they have little kids, if one of them were to stay home, it would be the husband just based on the economics. But that's a stay at home boyfriend. What are you doing all day? That's just if you're dating and you're not working and you don't have kids, what are you doing? Unless you're like going on mission trips and stuff. Like, what are you doing to be a net positive and value to society? Mary in Kansas City, you're on KCMO. Good morning, Mary. Hi, Pete. Thanks for taking my call. I have two little boys, so to meet your little daughters. I'm just kidding. Maybe you're not kidding. I might be hitting you up there one day, Mary. I mean, we've got to work together on this. Yeah, you're right. You're right. I was a teacher for eight years and I decided when we had our two boys, I taught for a couple of years with my oldest and then when I got pregnant with my second decided to stay home. The real reason I did was because I saw how boys were treated in the education system and how school today is just not made for boys. They're told to sit down, be quiet, don't ever move, don't be hyper. If they have any sort of what I would call boy-boy attitude, disposition, they're immediately put on medicine or told you have to figure this out. I think that if you start that and really they're starting that in kindergarten as you trickle up, boys are constantly put down, told to stay quiet, what are they going to do when they become boyfriends? They're going to be like, well, I'm not worth anything anyway. I was never allowed to be my true self. I'm just going to have no, they don't really have any dream or drive to do anything really. If you don't mind me asking Mary, how old are you? I am 32. Okay. We're more or less not the same age, but you're a few years younger than me. The school day is too long for boys. I mean, it's too long for anybody, but it's too long for especially boys because of exactly what you're talking about. It seems like the girls are the ones who excel in class. The boys are being knuckleheads. There was always the boy or two who was a knucklehead, but the boys are not challenged to achieve in the classroom like it seems like the girls are and the days are just too long. Yeah. It's too long and it's just they don't get enough breaks. Like my boys are being the quietest they've ever been and they're in the backseat, but they don't get enough breaks through recess. They, you know, in my class, we would try to do brain breaks, but that's just not enough for the testosterone that is pulsing through little boys that people don't understand that when you, you know, minimize that when you quiet it, then it's just going to kind of diminish. And so if that is going down, then, you know, what's going to drive a guy to go to work? I agree. I mean, if they're kind of spending the bulk of their week for 12, 13 years of their life in that kind of environment, I totally get it. You're doing a great, great service there, Mary. And the boys were nice and quiet there. So give them a, give them props in the backseat. We'll do it. We'll do it. Thank you. All right. Thank you, Mary. I appreciate it. That's a great call. I'm going to make Mary the caller of the day. All right. I'm making the executive decision. Normally I roll the caller of the day at 9 30, but it's close enough. It's on the other side of the break. So Mary is our caller of the day. You guys okay with that? Is that approved? Yeah, absolutely. Okay. All right. Good. We're on the same page. So there you go. Nice job, Mary. Excellent call. And, and she's right about that. I mean, you think about how long the days have become because in too many cases, they've turned the public school system into daycare for kids because everybody has to work to like pay their taxes for the schools. That's what they've done with the system. Instead of saying, we could do this in four or five hours, get them home, let them be kids, let them do a little homework, and then you're on your way. But that's no longer how the system is set up because everyone's got to have a job because of how they devalued the currency, jacked up government spending and people got to afford their lifestyles. So it's, it's difficult. And yeah, especially for, for young boys. I mean, we're going through some educational changes on our end and it's not easy, but it's the world that we live in. And you got to just do what's best for your kids. It's tough, but it's the right thing to do. And maybe I'll call Mary up in 18 years and see where her boys are at. See what's going on.
