Hey Bible readers, I'm Miss Emily and this is the Bible Recap. For kids! In Genesis 46-4, God says, Jacob Israel and his sons pack up to make the journey to Egypt, stopping along the way, he offers a sacrifice to God and says an emotional goodbye to his home. Egypt wasn't just a foreign land, it was known as a place that was terrible for God's people. But God gives Jacob Israel a vision and tells him that he will be with him in Egypt. And more than that, God promises to make his family a great nation while they're there. Pharaoh allows Jacob Israel's family to live in Goshen, which has fertile land for their animals. Even as the famine around them gets worse, their family has more than enough to eat. As Jacob grows closer to dying, he makes Joseph promise that they'll move his body out of Egypt. God promised that he'd be with Jacob in Egypt and he promised he'd bring Jacob out of Egypt. Jacob wants to make sure this happens, even though he won't be alive. God brings abundance. Do you remember that word? He provides not only what we need, but more than what we need. God brought Joseph to a place of importance in Egypt and God provided a way for Joseph's family to be reunited with him in Egypt. Once they were there, God gave them not only what they needed to live, but so much more. He brings abundance and he's where the joy is.
