Summary

The hosts discuss the Bruins' trade deadline strategy, Jeremy Swayman's contract and performance issues, Patriots receiver options with Steph Diggs, and criticize Jason Tatum's documentary about his Achilles injury recovery as overly dramatic and unnecessary.

Insights
  • Marco Sturm's public criticism of Jeremy Swayman's Olympic return timing signals organizational frustration with the goaltender's commitment and work ethic despite his expensive contract
  • Don Sweeney's reluctance to sell at the deadline reflects a culture-first management philosophy prioritizing player loyalty over optimal asset management, even when the roster may be overvalued
  • The Patriots face a receiver market with limited quality options, making Steph Diggs' leverage stronger than the team's despite contract restructuring demands
  • Professional athletes' over-documentation of injury recovery through documentaries represents a broader cultural shift toward monetizing personal narratives rather than letting performance speak
  • Goaltender contracts are increasingly problematic in the NHL cap era, with teams overpaying for the position when defensive systems and depth matter more than star power

These guys won't stop talking. And you can pretty much do it. So you're at Maz. In perpetuity. Yep. The Sports Hub. Today we're brought to you by the DraftKings Sportsbook. Maz, unless you have a fresh thought for us. God, no. Aman in Rhode Island. Yes, Aman. Hey, guys. I got a different take on this Tatum video, which is that I'm not sure as charity that we would expect from him, but also kind of expect that he's still just a kid. I mean, it kind of sounds like he's Boobie Miles from Friday Night Lights at this point, and, you know, the breakdown of the Achilles. I mean, I just feel like he should have just kept it quiet, it worked hard come back instead of doing this documentary thing thanks guys yeah i mean yeah probably so look i i mean i think it's as much a sign of the times as it is a sign or reflection on tatum that you know all the 28 year olds now want to run around and put everything out there for everyone to know every detail about their lunch on life or lunch or lunch too i'm sure Right. That's episode four. Yes. What they had for lunch, like all that stuff. Everything has to be documented. It's just, it's gotten ridiculous. Chipotle ran out of the carnitas and my soul left on my body. But it is, it's that kind of thing. Matt in Braintree on the documentary. Yes, Matt. Yeah, I just kind of wanted to pair it with that guy just said. I mean, I kind of think it's psychotic to be doing it, honestly. I mean, imagine making $300 million and then like filming this thing. and what's even more psychotic, I don't know if you guys, have you guys caught the Jeremy Swayman documentary that he put out being on the U.S. team? I mean, that's even more insane. Did he? Wait, is there one or are you joking? Oh, if there's one, I need, if this is real, someone get this to me now. Yes, please. I presume he's joking. Can you, but he's just the guy. Yeah, he is. Liam and Saugus on Steph Diggs. Yes, Liam. Hey, I was calling in about the Steph Diggs situation And I was just wondering if you guys, I mean, if you look around the league with the start of free agency coming up, I mean, who could be like a suitable wide receiver, one replacement for the guy? I mean, he's our first thousand yard receiver. And I don't know how many years, but it's been a while. And I mean, in terms of the money we're paying the guy currently and just his overall impact he's had on the team. Like if you look around the league, who could be that guy? So free agency, I don't, you know, Mike Evans. Can Mike Evans be Steph Diggs? Yeah. I don't think he's as tough as Diggs. Me neither. I like Diggs so much more than Mike Evans. It's not even funny. And I just think he's an easier guy to respect. I don't respect Evans. I mean, I do. I shouldn't say it that way. But Diggs is tough. You know, I do like that about him. You know, I like the way he plays and everything. I just think the Patriots are going to stick it to him. Drop balls can be an issue for Mike Evans. That's what bothered me in the past. And the hamstring thing, but that's kind of beyond his control. Maybe. I mean, that sometimes is a conditioning thing. I don't think he lacks toughness, though. I know you would dismiss it, Maz. Romeo Dobbs can do it, but he's not tough enough. He's not as tough as Diggs. Same thing. He's not a hamstring waiting to happen, but he's something waiting to happen. I mean, Diggs is fearless. He'll run into anywhere to catch a ball. So will Dobbs, but he'll go out then. Yes, go ahead. Diggs' disappearing act in the postseason, post his time with the Vikings, is a real thing. Like, that is maybe the most bothersome thing of all. He was great in the regular season. Never would have thought he'd go to 1,000 yards. Tough, yes. He disappeared in the postseason like he has in other spots. So the one thing I think we all agree on is you can't let him walk and end up with nothing. You can't do that. So if you're asking me, would I take him back? Like, if you give me the pick, I'll take A.J. Brown. Just a little bit younger, a little bit more versatile. See, I still go digs over A.J. Brown. But, okay, and you can argue that. Because I like stick movers. But you can't give me neither one. Right. Or, you know, something comparable, and I don't know what that is. I think you said the free agent. I think there's a trade. I think that's sort of the avenue there. And then we're talking like what's the guy in Jacksonville, Murray? David Thomas? Brian Thomas. Yeah, Brian Thomas. Wendy's owner. You can get a frosty with it as well. How about Steven in Northbridge on the Celts? Yes, Steven. Hey, guys. Thanks for taking my call. Just human me for a second. So say if Tatum never comes back this season and the Celtics won the NBA championship does that make Jalen Brown better than Jason Tatum I'll hang up and listen thanks guys if Jalen Brown led the Celtics to the NBA title this year without Tatum would that make Brown better than Tatum answer yes yeah in all probability yes yes yep I'd give that to you for sure I mean because he'd have to play better he'd be doing it by himself right where Tatum and Brown had each other that first time around right does anyone think that brown's better than i mean like i don't so i don't think he's more talented but i might take tougher i'm right i i might take jalen brown over jason like you know i'd like i'll take um for our hockey people i'll take uh brady kachuk over david posternach even though posternach is more talent you know what i mean that kind of comes sure so great i might take jalen brown over jason tatum even though jason tatum is quote unquote better brown has more of the intangibles which do factor in and Jalen Brown's play style is more adaptive to the faster pace of the NBA. I would take Jalen Brown clearly over Jason, which is which it might be true, Jimmy, but it's not like Jalen Brown plays at some sort of frenetic pace. He's kind of deliberate himself. He has moments of it, but I think the offense runs smoother through him than it does Tatum. Like at least like Tatum. It's like pound, pound, pound. Oh, no panic shot. No, I'm with you. I'm with you. But either way, Dean and Shrewsbury. Hi, Dean. hi um the patriots need a left tackle will campbell isn't gonna cut it if he's the left tackle then drake may is gonna have his body his soul leave his body at some point so i think for this year you're gonna get another season of will campbell there feels that way doesn't it and that's come hell or high water that's what's happening and look it might be the right move from their perspective i mean you invested a number four pick in them and he had an injury in the middle of the year. So at least give it half the year and see what it looks like. But if it looks like what it did at the end there, they can't keep him there. It feels like they're, they've talked about it, is their need at right tackle. And they've mentioned Morgan Moses' age a couple different times and how they want some depth there. And that's what I think they're doing. They might draft a right tackle. They might sign a right tackle. But I don't think it's for Will Campbell. At least not yet. They're going one more year with that, at least, if not more. Rich and Raynham just jumped out on Steph Diggs. Go ahead, Rich. Guys, you've got to give more credit to Diggs. You know, he wanted to win that Super Bowl more than anybody. And, you know, they shut him down. I mean, you know, Drake couldn't do anything. He got sacked more than anybody, you know, ever in the playoffs. You know, but, you know, we shut down Seattle's top guy. He only had one catch, right? Yeah, so listen, I'll bring Diggs back, and I'll give him the money that he's owed. And if you wanted to win the Super Bowl more than anything, maybe give tickets to, oh, I don't know, one girlfriend instead of two. So your head's in the right place. You're down on Diggs, Murray. A little bit, yeah. I think this postseason mostly sucked for him. He was good-ish in the Houston game. Otherwise, he was invisible. And then what you hear regarding the Super Bowl, he invited too many people there, and it became maybe potentially a little bit problematic in terms of his focus for that day. when you need them the most. Well, and the other thing is, how does that explain? Like, you want to say that May was under pressure, the line didn't hold up, all true. What about Diggs' other failures in December and January? In past years? Right. So, like, to Murray's point, you know, what... Bill's fans called him December Diggs because he started to disappear in December and beyond. I think I mentioned it before. In his time with Buffalo, it was seven playoff games. I think he had one touchdown or two at most. I think it was two touchdowns in seven playoff games. You've got to be better than that. For how he produces in the regular season, which, again, has been excellent, he disappears in the postseason anytime he's been out of Minnesota. He is physically a little bit of a tweener. He's not the biggest guy, and he's not the fastest guy. And that's not going to get better as he's getting older. So his foot, you know, his receiver skills are elite. But in terms of a matchup, you can probably take him out with someone who is good. According to MassLive, Karen Garijan, Mark Daniels. One source said if Diggs wants to remain in New England, he must restructure his contract to lower the cap hit, which, again, I will just say quickly is an unfortunate word choice by Mark and Karen. They're asking him to take a pay cut. Just let's call it what it is. Don't give the owner a break. And the owner or the team might be right. Diggs might not be worth the money, but let's just call it what it is. They're asking him to take a pay cut. uh anyway they say that the patriots are willing to give him an incentive-laden deal that allows a veteran to earn back money if he produces a second source predicted digs would be unwilling to restructure his contract after leaving the patriots in multiple receiving categories The team has discussed how they could replace his production That a sticking point due to a poor receiver class in free agency and the Patriots holding the 31st pick in the first round. So the Pats, just let me piece this together. The Pats go to Diggs. We need a pay cut. Diggs says, F you. The Patriots say, okay, we'll go find somebody else. Now they're looking around and humm-a-humm-a-humm-a. Actually, there's no one here really fits, and the Eagles are being stupid about A.J. Brown, so that's not really realistic right now. So they go on. The Patriots know they need to support Drake May, and downgrading his receiver core doesn't do that. That's why a third source said the team was willing to keep Diggs on his current deal and swallow the cap hit. It's not the cap hit. And swallow the money and pay him what's on the contract. The third thing is, I don't know. Coming to focus for me. Yeah, and look, it might. I mean, maybe the Patriots are just trying to leverage them. And, you know, they say, okay, well, we're going to look around. And Diggs says, go ahead. Take a peek. See what's out there. Because you're going to have to give up a first and a third for A.J. Brown. And the rest of the class sucks. Unless you want to get, you know, Alec Pierce got franchised, right? Okay. Okay, so, but even then, unless you want to go overpay someone on the market more than you're going to pay me. Or good luck with Mike Evans. Exactly. And his hamstring. So look, from that standpoint, I do like the leverage Diggs has better than what the Patriots have. I just don't see them bringing him back. I hope I'm wrong. When we come back, your calls. And Marco Sturm calls out Jeremy Swayman in his fashion. And Don Sweeney talks about the team's plans at the trade deadline this Friday. We'll do that right after these words. belgian mass continues on the sports hub marco sturm is building a program you know it's it's it's a blizzard on monday it's absolutely pouring snow from the sky the wind is is whipping you in the face you're having a bad time you know what marco did that day he said hey i want to practice today and they were like no we can't practice he's like no no i want to practice today they in practice, but he wanted to. He understands how important these practices are because they're not going to get a lot of them. They got like 22 games in 45 days, right? Something crazy like that happening right now. They're not going to have a lot of practice time. They're going to have a lot of mandated days off because of their schedule. He understands the importance of practice. And if you get guys aren't going to practice and they're like the driving force of your team to a certain degree, he's going to get a little pissed off. and I can't blame him there. I found this quote after Thursday's game against Columbus to be a little telling, in my opinion. This is Marco Sturm after Thursday's game. Corpus Allo was unbelievable today. I'm glad he came back right away from the Olympics and didn't waste any time, and he wanted to be in practice. I thought the last two days were very important for him just to be back on the ice and having a real practice again. He was great. It's not a direct shot, but it kind of feels like he gets it. He gets how important it is that we have to practice and we have to be back on the ice here. What can you say about Corpus Allo's performance and also DPH for a couple of saves stepping in in the middle? Yeah, it was outstanding. I mean, you just mentioned it. Corpi was unbelievable on the day. Glad he came back right away from the Olympics right away. Didn't waste any time, wanted to be in practice. I thought the last two days was very important for him just to be back on the ice and having a real practice again. And, yeah, it was great. Credit to Ty Anderson. We were all listening independently over the weekend as Ty Anderson alerts us to the fact that Marco Sturm basically called out Jeremy Swayman. He did. For taking his time coming back from the Olympics and not being ready to go and Corpo Salo being ready to go. And Corpo Salo was in the Olympics, too. Corpo Salo played the bronze medal game on Saturday. Swayman was in street clothes for the gold medal game on Sunday. Corpus Allo was ready to go on Thursday. Swayman was not. I think there's another line we missed. Can you play it again, Jimmy? Which part? The Sturm? Sturm said, so we came back right away, right away twice. Didn't waste any time, unlike Swayman. Wanted to be at practice. I think he says in there two days were very important to him, talking about Corpus Allo in terms of practice, where it wasn't for Swayman because, I'll just get back on my own time and I'll give you one day. Can I hear it one more time, Jimmy, please? Yeah, it was outstanding. I mean, you just mentioned it. Corby was unbelievable on the day. Glad he came back right away, you know, from the Olympics right away. Didn't waste any time. Wanted to be in practice. I thought the last two days was very important for him just to be, you know, back on the ice. There you go. Last two days were very important for him to be back on the ice, whereas opposed to this a-hole. This flake. Yeah, just, you know. Two days. Yeah. Two days. Just making that clear. He's coming back right away from the Olympics right away. Did I say that he came back right away? So I don't think that this is realistic or that it's eminent or on their radar, but it would be on mine. I would trade Jeremy Swayman. I would assume money on his contract until he became tradable. I would pay money down on his contract until I got a good return for Jeremy Swayman. And I would end the Jeremy Swayman experiment if I were the Boston Bruins. realize the error of your ways the stupidity of that contract and move on and i don't think it's going to happen but uh and part of the reason i don't think it's going to happen is because i think sweeney after hearing him today doesn't want to sell i mean he he might he might do some lateral kind of moves or you know sell here and buy there but i don't think he wants to net out being a lesser team than he is today and i get that after listening to him today jimmy just give me one this is his opening statement i don't think he takes any questions but he kind of tells me what i need to know just in his opening statement so here's dan sweeney today on the bruins trade deadline almost good afternoon good morning everybody thank you for uh stopping by in the trade deadline week um i in all likelihood be a little different than last year um not not necessarily as aggressive and active, but we would like to continue to improve our hockey club if possible and exploring opportunities to do so with the intention of obviously giving our team that has done a pretty good job so far, our coaches, players, staff, attention to the power play, some of the areas that we identified going into this year and being much, much more competitive. we'd like to give them a bump um because they've earned that uh but it's an eye towards you know obviously this year but moving forward as well so that's what our intentions we'd like to give them a bump because they've earned that yeah right and i think that it's actually a reasonable i i i don't listen i think they should still sell i would i would take calls on pretty much anyone on the roster honestly no one's untouchable to me there i think mcavoy's overrated and disappointing. I think David Pasternak is someone that if someone knocked me out. So I'd take the calls on everyone. I know they're not going to do that. So even though I think they should sell, it's perfectly reasonable for Don Sweeney for culture reasons. The team's fought hard to I think in some people's eyes overachieve a little bit. But be in the playoffs where not everyone had him there. And they put a lot into it. And so Sweeney wants to reward that. He wants to give him a bump because I'd like to give them a bump because I think they've earned it. I think that's a worthy thing to do to maintain your culture of not, you know, I feel about this. I think the teams that just give in and suck and draft and just give in to sucking are kind of destined to be losers. And any team that just fights to win, I want to get, you know, I give some credit to. And so I think that's an important thing for the Bruins to be. The players and the coaches lived up to their end of the bargain. So the front office should repay them in kind and not sell on the season. And I'm okay with that, even though I think in my core, I think they should be selling. But either way, I get where Sweeney's coming from. No, it's exactly what it is. It's a culture decision. Exactly. I mean, he says, you know, we ask these guys to come in, play hard, find ways to win enough games to keep us in it. And then they get to the trade deadline am I going to pull the rug out from under their feet? I'm not going to do it. So, like, I do have respect for that. I mean, it's hard to not have respect for that. But at the same time, I would tell you that if a deal presents itself to the Bruins where they can move Peek and get a young player. A second-round pick. Right, or right, right, even that. Peek was scratched the other night. Yeah, right. So you can get a second-round pick for a guy you sat. And I don't know, maybe they sat him because they're going to trade him. I don't know. but if he's your sixth or seventh defenseman and you get a second round pick for that now maybe i'm dreaming if you can't get it you know if you won't if you're only going to get a fourth i think i'd rather keep them and you know maybe he can help you win a round or win some playoff games and i think there's value in that so i don't need to trade him for a fourth round pick but you know what i mean mess uh is but i don't think screen he's gonna do that i just i i don't i've never loved the idea of and i felt this way about the celtics earlier in the year you're gonna ask Jalen Brown to go out there lead the team and then if they good you going to leave them hanging Right Like that it You know what the hell are you doing Why not just give him the year off too I mean you know so you going to ask him to bust his ass and try to keep you in it, and then he keeps you in it, and you pork him at the deadline? Like, no. You can't do it that way. There is a human element to, you know, loyalty and trust and respect and all that stuff. So is trading, swaying, you know, signaling to the team, we're selling or giving up on you this season? Depends what they get back. I mean, and can DiPietro play right now? I don't know if the team likes Jeremy Swayman. I mean, the coach just called him out big time. Okay. I don't care how Sturm may couch it. That's what that was. He definitely called out Jeremy Swayman. And we've seen in the past, the team has not been overly supportive of him. What was the thing last year when he tried to fight last year? Yeah. And they asked Zdorov about, you know, how do you feel about Swayman standing up for the team? and he goes, oh, that's what that was? And never mind the contract thing, and him and Marshan felt like there was a thing. So, like, going back to the contract, I think that Swayman is not, it doesn't feel like he's had the full support of the room or the team or the organization. So I don't know how that would play in the room. I mean, they played a good game, I thought. I thought, effort-wise, the effort was there Thursday night against Columbus when Corpus Allo was in net, and Corpus Allo played great. then they show up on saturday with swayman he gives up two goals on the first 12 shots or something like that eight 16 saves uh 18 shots 16 saves and the team was listless and a saturday afternoon lost to you know one of the lesser teams in the league so is that just another case of the i don't know this swayman please enough admit the error of your ways admit the mistake that contract was and get out from under it is what I would do. Not that they're going to. But I get this. Would that be signaling to their team they're giving up? It shouldn't be. Would someone on that team actually welcome it? You know, I wonder. I bet you Zedora would welcome it. Andrew and Peabody on this. Go ahead, Andrew. How you doing, boys? I know you missed me. I don't even know who you are, and I say that with all the love and respect in my heart. No, me neither. Thanks. I don't either. But anyways, first of all, I would trade Swingman for a bag of pucks. I would have left him in Milan, and that's that. And I've got something for you. Okay, all right. I'd trade him just to get rid of the contract, honestly. I wouldn't worry about the return. I bet they would, too, at this point. I mean, the guy that you moved on from, Brandon Boosie, is 24-3 in Carolina. The guy who beat you on Saturday is Dan Vladar, who traded a while ago. And I'm not telling you that I would take Dan Vladar over Jeremy Swayman. I think Swayman's probably a better goaltender, but they're close. I don't think there's much of a difference there. I really don't. And one guy makes $3 million a year, and you pay yours $8 million. Between Swayman and Corpus Allo, you pay him $12 million a year. It is a little much. Oh, for Pete's sake. Steve and George on this. Go ahead, Steve. Hey, thanks for taking my call. A quick point on Swayman and then I have a question on D.P. H.O. One thing I haven't heard you guys talk about on Swayman in the Carolina game was Carpazola got hurt. And that, you know, and that bum was, you know, he couldn't even dress for the game and D.P. H.O. came in and he got pressured pretty good and made a couple big saves. So, you know, that just shows you like he didn't really care about the team because as you guys keep talking about, that was a huge game. So, yeah, he needs to go. And then quick question on D.P. H.O. His stats that they showed, he seems to be doing really good on the H.O. What do you guys thought on him? long term. Yeah, I think he'd be fine. I think he's another goalie. I'm sorry to cut you off. And it was Columbus, not Carolina. He's just another goalie. I do. I think the positions become a little interchangeable. I really do. It's important, but if you devote too much money to it or, you know, extend yourself too much at the position, because the cap in hockey is real. It's not like football. So I just see too many. I don't know. I think a good defensive core and good defensive system is almost more important than the goalie now. And I've just seen it. I've seen it over and over and over again. So I think DiPietro would be fine. Like I told you, when Corpozalo, they made the move for Corpozalo, Ty Anderson and others said this is the worst goalie in the league. He blows. This is the worst goaltender in hockey. And they might be right. I don't think he's all that good. But he's in the Bruins system. He's fine. He's been just fine. and I don't think he's very good but the difference between him and Swayman has not been all that great and he's half the cost so that's sort of my point I wouldn't sweat the goalie I just wouldn't I'd make sure that I have a good beefy decor and a responsible system and I guarantee you you can get away with a lesser named goalie no reason to pay a guy eight million dollars especially he's going to flake off I mean their history says that they're terrified to do that terrifying yes yes I I mean, right now, I was just looking it up. Fourth highest in the league with money spent at goaltending. Fourth highest. And I know Florida's probably number one. No, Florida is. Doesn't Bobrovsky make a ton of money? Seventh. Florida's seventh. Because they probably play their backup. San Jose's first. The Rangers in Anaheim are one, two, three. The Bruins are four. And the other end is Calgary, Pittsburgh, Montreal, Philly. Philly. Philly's always. But they get the same goaltending you are with Vladar. you know whoever thought it's a good point it's just the way it goes at that position philly's goaltending has sucked for like a century my whole life we've got a couple years of ron hextall and that was about it pretty much uh and i'm not as old as you folks with bernie perron that was a different era final segment thoughts calls in emails after big jim murray gets you updated here we're back with more selger and mads We do the MRI, put it on the screen. He was like, you know, Jason, let me show you. This is his Achilles tendon right here. This is one end of the tendon, this is the other. This is the gap right here. And this is what we sew back together. And I remember I shook my head. Like I couldn't look, I couldn't lift my head up. And he was like, all right, these are the different options of surgeries that you can do. There's pretty strong data that if you do it within 24 hours, Patients have better outcomes. There's things around the tendon that we can preserve that makes the recovery process and the surgery better. He looked at his watch and he was like, man, I'm actually free today around 3. And it just kind of felt like my soul left my body and I just put my head down. His face, he's turning white. Jason was like, I'm not doing that. He was like, I didn't wake up this morning thinking I was going to have surgery. And so everybody's just kind of looking around and he's like, nah, I'm not. And so I just asked everybody to leave the room. Yeah, she just grabbed me. And I kind of, you know, I broke down. Soul left his body. It's just so overdramatic. It's like a soap opera. It really is. Especially with the overdramatic music and everything too. Little thick, wouldn't you say? Oh, my gosh. Syrupy. Couldn't lift my head up. Couldn't look. meanwhile the doctor's like my soul left my body it's like the best part is the doctor like yeah i can do it this afternoon no problem i do like four of these a day it's really not that big of a deal i'm i couldn't look at him couldn't even look at the x-ray tell me doc just give me the bad news is there anything you could do about it yeah i can get you in a three like four of these a day no big deal my soul left my body we don't even have to put you under so the drama the drama continues around Jason Tatum let's do some emails on this before I go back to the phones if we could please DFL it's the Coleman electric email of the day dear Mike DFL I really hate And I think Maz is a boob. It's electric. The Coleman Electric email of the day. It's electric. Send yours to Felger at 98.5 the sports hub. Dot com. Email the day brought to you by Coleman Electric. A bunch of really good electricians helping homeowners like you. When you need an electrician, you want to call Coleman. It's electric. It's electric. K-U-H-L-M-A-N. search him up it's with a k so then of course i don't know if we're doing this in the final words too are we um send we're doing a lot of the tatum stuff and maz reaccounting his achilles injury because that's what the audience wants is to hear about his achilles well definitely we definitely want to hear about your achilles injury out there or whether the fact you might have been i don't say like a crab fisherman who broke his fingers crab fishing best opening line to a phone call in a long time and how you came back in less time than jason tatum with less drama connor writes Dear Felger, no need for a documentary on crab fishing from your caller earlier. There already is a TV show for that. It's called Deadliest Catch. Yeah, right. Yeah, that's what I was thinking of. Which is in the middle of filming its 22nd season. The show was filmed in the Bering Sea off of the coast of Alaska. The fishermen are in search of Alaskan king crab and snow crab. Yum. While battling extreme conditions such as cold wind, rain, and high surf that often crashes over the top of the ships and wipes out a ton of the crew on the main deck. certainly a more entertaining watch and a more grueling situation than Tatum whose soul left his body as he wondered if his doctor was going to skip lunch to repair his Achilles Connor and Harwich. I love Alaskan king crab. Oh my God. So good. Give it to me. So good. Like a Florida stone crab? Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of. That's the one. With the honey mustard? Another one. That's another good one. Jerry writes in, Tatum, Boston Bruin Craig Campbell broke his leg in a 2013 playoff game, killing a penalty against the Penguins and finished his shift. This is true. Don't compare hockey and basketball. You know, this is one of those where, yeah, I was going to say, I'm sort of on Tatum's side on this one. Not fair. It's not fair. It's not even remotely close. Subject line, Julian Edelman had a doc, and you guys spent zero seconds on it. Andy writes in, if you hate the doc so much, just don't watch it. Why do you guys care so much? no one gave a F when it was Edelman or Brees Hall who both had documentaries on their ACL rehab. So Brees Hall, I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm talking about the Jets. Did Edelman do it? I have no memory of that. Did he do a documentary? I have no idea. I couldn't even begin to tell you. Brady did the Facebook show. The Facebook, right? Remember that? Yes. Or was that Facebook? Yeah. Did Edelman do something similar? But again, that was Brady at the end of his career. like you know doing something if there was anything noteworthy i'm sorry to cut you off if there was anything noteworthy or insufferable from it we would have talked about it it was probably boring as hell that's the reason we didn't touch on it exactly then we got a call saying that there was a jeremy swayman um documentary about going to the olympics which i don't think is true you know it's fake yeah i had one clip sent to me but it was from behind the b three seasons ago okay that had to be bull crap i have no idea who cares about his trip The third string goalie who sucks? You know, you give me Connor Hellebuck or something, I might watch it. He actually played. All right, so you'll hear more on the Tatum documentary and our treatment of it coming up in the final word in a few seconds. Back to the calls. Rob in the car. Go ahead, Rob. Yeah, I have a question on Swayman. Where are you going to find a general manager dumb enough to take his contract and him? Boston. Edmonton. Yeah, where's Shirely? but listen one man's trash is another man's you know again if you're a team that you think you're a goaltender away Edmonton I mean there's one it signed that team friendly deal he has two more seasons there they have Tristan Jerry who they traded for who blows and then the other guy Maz is rightfully made fun of Skinner went out of that deal right look we have the TV on right now pardon the interruption on ESPN what does it say right now what's the headline should Oilers trade for goalie before deadline Perfect. Yes, they should. Yes, they should. And you should swallow money on Swayman's contract until you get a good return and admit the mistake that was Jeremy Swayman and move on. And for once, go more reasonable cost and net. And trust me, you'll be just fine. You're not going to be any worse off than you are right now. Oh, that would be a major win if they could pull that off. Win. How about Tom in Marble? Hi, Tom. So, guys, I had a comment on the Patriots, but can I talk about Swayman really quick? Go ahead. Attach Pasternak, too, and get rid of both of them. Okay, well, they'll never do that, but I would not be – like, if Ottawa wants to trade me Brady Kachuk for Pasternak straight up, I would do that. I'd give them Swayman and Pasternak for Brady Kachuk. Just get rid of the contracts. It doesn't even matter. They're both kind of overrated. So what I was going to say about the Patriots, you guys were going back and forth with having AJ Brown or Diggs. Don't they have the cap space to do both? Yes. Sure. And when it makes sense to sign both of them, you kind of show up the wide receivers? But they don't want to pay them the real money. The cap's not the issue. They have the real they would have to have the real money to pay both and they don't want to pay the real money to pay. I mean, I the MassLive said there was a scenario under which they both would be here. I think those scenarios are two really really team-friendly deals from the receivers themselves. then sure but i don't find that realistic i i at this stage i think you'll kind of be lucky if you get one of them you know what i mean that story is such a freaking crock it's not even funny there's a scenario under which they could both be here yeah exactly if both of them agree to take nothing right like well what are the odds of that i can conjure up any scenario you want i'll get Aaron, Judge, you know, Tommy, if you want them. There's a scenario. Yeah, hell yeah, it'll work. No, I can give you a scenario for anything. That's ridiculous. There's no chance of them doing that. John and Franklin, go. Yeah, I don't think the Pats would have a shot with Mike Evans. I don't think they would want to sign him. Agent wide out with hamstring problems. Probably never played in the cold weather. You know, he's not probably a cold weather player. Much rather have digs. Me too. What if Diggs is gone? So why does Philly want Mike Evans? Or Buffalo. So Buffalo I get. Right. I'm being half facetious. Oh, I thought you were just talking about the cold aspect of it that he was getting at. No, what Maz is driving at is that the Beatles. Yeah, they're going to move A.J. Brown. Thank you. They need a second guy to Smith. Yeah, so he's out of there, which is why the Patriots shouldn't give up that first and third. That would be stupid or first and second or whatever it was going to take to get A.J. Brown. The Eagles aren't getting that and they know it. You don't dump a contract and get the picks. You almost never get that. Final word comes your way right after this. Hey, it's Belger here. Now on Belger and Mads. It's the final word. Recapping this four-hour show in four minutes, which leads to the question, does it really need to be four hours long? No. Final word brought to you by Town Fair Tire. If you are looking for the best deal on tires, there is only one place to go. It's Town Fair Tire. The best prices and great free services. Nobody beats Town Fair Tire. Nobody. Well, we had some fun at the expense of Jason Tatum and episode two of A Quiet Work. A Jason Tatum story earlier today on the show. Where was your documentary, Maz? We're showing, if you're watching the simulcast, this is Maz with a little more hair. When he ripped his Achilles in a media game, was it 10 years ago now? That was... Oh, longer than that. 2012, I think it was. 2012. That was almost 14 years ago. Yep. Did you do a five-parter? No. No, mine took all of five seconds to figure out. I remember I put my hand down there and I went, oh, that's gone. I said I knew right away. So, but the other thing is there's no, you know... I mean, I, you know, I hobbled off the floor. A couple of guys wanted to help me. I got over to the side, put my hand on, and it was gone. My Achilles tendon, there was nothing there. Just emptiness. It's kind of how I felt inside. Empty. did your soul leave your body mass again mine never came back it did it zipped out of there pretty fast but holy crap like what are we doing he's 28 he's not 38 if he were 38 it might have been the end of his career he's 28 like this isn't documentary worthy no not at all it's completely oversaturated this is just another guy blowing out an ankle or a knee and coming back Yes, it's the same crap. It happens to every guy in every sport at some point. They all have an injury. All the pros they play, there are so many miles they accumulate. The pieces break. Unbelievable. Jason Tatum stars in the first Achilles ever torn. It's like a soap opera. It really is. With the overdramatic violins and the music. Soul leaving your body. Then I asked the doctor, when can I get surgery? Huh? Three. I'll just push my lunch, man. We can do it. Sure. I can make more point right now. That was the best part. That was so good. He looked at me and said, I can take it three on Friday. No sweat. Do you think Skaz and Joe Murray get the popcorn and are like sitting there watching the thing? Oh, definitely. With actual literal tears rolling down their cheeks. We were there last night. We went to the game. I was there. And watching that game, though, like Jason Tatum, I don't know. Everyone's making it a negative about everything. I think he comes in. I think they're easily the favorites in the East. Yeah. All right. So you agree with that? I think without him, they should be. I don't know. Who's making it a negative? Oh, you guys? Come on now. You guys just crapped all over a documentary. Oh, yeah. The most humble guy. One of them. Humble? Five episodes? The first time he's ever done anything non-humble in his life. Oh, my God, Joe. For real, come on. It's corny. Oh, good God. The green ooze. I think Joe Murray should do a documentary. Definitely. Yeah, sure. Joe Murray's Restaurant Reviews. I'd watch that. I would, too. I would watch that. All right, Joe. Is that the teaser? Oh, Giannis is back tonight, too. Oh, yeah. You want this? When his Achilles goes, you wait for the five. Soon. Five-parter. It's coming. That's going to happen soon. No doubt about it. F these fans. The Yana story. All right. Here comes Joe and Skaz. We're back at it tomorrow at 2. We'll talk to you then, everybody. See you, Mike.
