Cruise News Today with Doug Parker. Good morning. Here's your cruise news for Thursday, April 23rd. A cruise ship in the Mediterranean has recovered five bodies at sea during a 14-night cruise. On Tuesday afternoon, Princess Cruises Sapphire Princess changed course after spotting an orange life jacket in the water while sailing toward Cartagena, Spain. Crew members launched a rescue boat to retrieve the body and discovered four more deceased in the same area, none of who were passengers or crew members. Princess Cruises told us in a statement, We extend our sincere condolences for this loss and are grateful to our crew for their swift response. Tracking data shows the ship spent nearly three hours conducting a search before continuing its cruise. Sapphire Princess is on a 14-night cruise from Rome to Copenhagen in Denmark. And Italian authorities have arrested a cruise ship security guard accused of war crimes during the Balkan conflicts of the 90s. Police say the 58-year-old man was identified during a routine screening at Civicevicekia port, that's the cruise port for Rome, while working on board an unnamed ship. Investigators say he is wanted under an international warrant issued earlier this year tied to alleged involvement in violence, deportations, and killings during the war in former Yugoslavia. Officials say the suspect had been attempting to avoid detection before his arrest. He is now in custody and awaiting a decision on extradition to Croatia. And artifacts from the RMS Titanic sinking are drawing major interest at an auction 114 years after the tragedy A life jacket worn by survivor Lor Fran Katili sold for more than far exceeding the $300,000 mark they were expecting. Other items included a lifeboat cushion, which sold for over $500,000, along with personal belongings recovered from passengers. Auctioneers say the strong prices proved continued interest in the Titanic. and its history. And cruise stocks were down Wednesday. Carnival Corporation down 1.5%, 26.94. Royal Caribbean down 2.1%, 265.64. Norwegian down 1.5, 19.03. And biking down 2%, 80.01. If you have a lead on a story, let us know. Tips at cruiseradio.net.
