Yes, welcome on into this special quick bonus edition of Locked On Auburn, Zach Blackerby, Auburn Message Board legend Kyle Rush over at the barn, Auburn.com. Just got done with practice, gave us about 20, 30 minutes or so. Saw the first three periods. I spent most of the time, I spent all the time watching the offense. I spent a lot of time watching the wide receivers, Kyle. And it was really cool to see Cody Burns not just teaching them how to run routes, but teaching them like essentially how to play football, like teaching them about the game. And they were running comeback routes, right? Eight, 10 yards down the field, then coming back and attacking the football. But he was teaching them like how to run the route and the different variances of it based on where the corner or defensive back was positioned. So as far as like when to speed up at certain times, when did jab and turn. And I thought that was insightful. I watched receivers a lot over the last few years and hadn't really seen that level. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened, but it was kind of cool to see that up close and personal. Well, you wouldn't think on the hoof that a comeback route would have that many dynamics. That to me just speaks to the theme of the staff. I had someone come in and ask me like what I think that's asking about practice. What's the biggest thing you've noticed since you've been watching practice? And it's that. It's the attention to details on a, what you would think the easiest route to run. You know, you run eight yards, you turn around, you come back. That kind of stuff is what wins football games. That's that attention to detail and they don't miss. And that's a stable part of this offense, right? Is that they're going to run routes based off of what the opposing defenses are doing. And it's quick decision. And you know, obviously Byron Brown can orchestrate that and he has at a high level for several years. Real quick, I noticed, I noticed in the receiver room Christian Neptune looked to be back. Had a normal jersey on out there. Yeah. Had a normal jersey on look like he was running full speed. All of this stuff that I could tell came from the slot. Yeah. Which isn't surprising. That's what he did in South Florida last year. And I mean, that or the order of that room is kind of come out as the way you would think that it is. I mean, Keshon Singleton seems to be the guy and then Jeremiah Kogars, the guy on the other side. And then they had Jake Johnson starting at the tight end spot. So when they went with quarterbacks throwing a skill guys, they had the two wide receivers out wide, obviously. And then they had the slot guy and then the tight ends to their right. And the order was pretty much what she thought. So Singleton and Koger, the Nimrod, the starting slot, and then Jake Johnson starting tight up. Yeah. Nothing super news breaking there. That's kind of been other than, you know, those guys are it. That's your guys. They're the ones that are leading. They're the ones that they're always out there first. So you can pretty much, you can feel confident. That's going to be your number one group right there. Yeah. Indie drill stuff. The tight end order was Jake Johnson, Arliss Bordingham, John Eccles, 83 is Newsome, then 84 is G. So Bordingham has been a lot, doing a lot of work on the indoor the last several times we've been here. So he and Neptune both. So that's another one that's back healthy. I'm really, I got a weird feeling about him. You know, being a... About Bordingham? Yeah. He's a freshman, all SEC guy at Florida and then, you know, battling some injuries. I just got a weird feeling he might be a, he might be a factor this year. He might, he might. And you know, we heard good things about Newsome, close scrimmage. When, when the quarterbacks were throwing a skill guys against air, there was a rep. I couldn't tell if it was the same rep or if it was back to back reps, but Eccles and Newsome both dropped passes. Oh boy. And tight ends coach Larry Scott lost his mind. I love it. Like catch the football over and over and over. He got in their face. Golis is standing back 10 feet just like with his, with his arms crossed, like, you know, kind of like get after him. Like that's unacceptable, you know? But clearly he's involved. Like then even when he's like watching guys, his staff coach, because man, they're constantly coaching. They're not just standing there watching. They are critiquing every rep and Golis is just kind of walking up like listening every time and he'll chime in sometimes, but it's cool to see him monitoring all of it. Yeah, for sure. Like I know we're going to talk about defense in a minute, but you said you saw him with the tight ends. Well, I'm watching Golis over there with the edges as well getting fired up when they're doing, you know, their drill. So that just goes to show you it's not a joke when we're talking about he's everywhere. He's literally everywhere. He's not meandering over, cutting up with people and coaches on the sideline. He is in the middle of everything. Well, he doesn't want to waste a second. Not a single single. I mean, even Cole Pinkston of Avon three and we stood next to each other for most of the practice. We were kind of like just discussing everything together and they get so many reps in because they'll let all three quarterbacks throw at the same time. Yeah. Because and it's just like, gosh, you're getting triple the reps as well. Like we'd see like two do it, but yeah, you're seeing all three guys throw at the same time at different receivers. You're getting so many reps and it's fast. They're sprinting back to the line. You're getting balls ready. Like it's quick and that's kind of how goalish views all of this. Like we're not wasting a second. If we waste a second, we're losing. Exactly. We're losing. We have to be efficient and everything that we do. And then once again, intentional comes across starting offensive line today as far as kind of piecemealing it because they did the left and the right thing from left to right. Joe Simmons was at left tackle today. Derek Plastate at left guard. He's steady at left guard. Cole Best, steady at center. Skinner at right guard. Kevin Zaire, Zierer, excuse me, at right tackle. Skinner seems to be working his way to the top on the right side. I feel like that's one of the positions that's a little more interchangeable and we're seeing a little bit more consistency out of him being there at right guard. So that's interesting to see. Yeah. Simmons, there's been a couple of days where he's been on both sides. Still feels like he's your right tackle if Stanton comes back and he's fully healthy. And I'm ready to see him. I don't know how much we're going to see out of him in practice this spring, if at all. We're talking to him in a little bit. When practice is over, we're getting like eight guys, I think he's one of them. So curious to see what kind of updates we'll get from Stanton Ramil on that. And then I think my only other offensive note before we head to defense was Tia was consistently the second quarterback, which is unsurprising. So Kyle spent a lot of time watching the defense. Somebody is back. Someone very important. And it sounds like we now know who the fastest linebacker is. We'll discuss that in just a moment right here unlocked on Auburn. You watched the defense, and my biggest question going into this would be the status of Chris Murray, and you have an update. Yeah, he's out there. It's no longer running gassers on the indoor. He's going through all of the reps. I like it. Kind of a testament to what Gola said he's got to work his way back going at the end of the line. Hey, you got to earn everything, even if it's going first in a rep. It's kind of wild, no still no number. I love that. I think it's awesome. He's very easy to identify. It's just a white jersey. It's got Auburn. It's funny. It's got Auburn on the chest, and it says Murray on the back, no number. But he's going through the reps, going through the drills, and obviously that's great to see. My biggest takeaway, and you and I talked about this on the show today, basically, is talk about Deshaun Womack being the guy of that room. My favorite takeaway of the day was there's several opportunities where those two guys are kind of going against each other or helping each other. One guy is repping as the blocker, and then the other guy is obviously being the edge, where it's I'm shedding the blocker. I'm doing whatever. Womack works with everybody. It's almost like he's coaching them through it. He spends time with Chris Murray. He spends time with JJ Faulk. He spends time with Jared Smith. He's going down the line, and I didn't really notice that from anybody else. He's very vocal. It's his room. It really feels like it's his room, and that was something that really jumped out today, more than anything. I think you and I had a segment about it maybe two weeks ago where I'm watching the edges, and I don't know whose room it is. Sounds like that has been answered. 100%. I know he's bounced around a lot, and so sometimes you always question where that person's focus is. He seems 100% locked in. He's the leader of that room. He's taken on that role. He goes first with every drill. I did notice Jared Smith is working his way up to the top of that list, too, going right behind him. But man, that was very impressive to see. Being intentional, taking on, emulating his head coach, being intentional about working with every single guy in that room, and then, dude, Coleman Hussler. I was about to ask, does Hussler just watch him do that, or does he help him out? What does that look like? He doesn't. Okay, so he does not. That's not coming from him. That's all Deshaun. That's all Womag. That's him driving himself. But as far as a coach goes, I would like to see watch a full practice with Vontrell, and watch a full practice with Hussler, and let everybody see it, and then vote who's the most intense. I don't know how they heap their voice. They're just screaming. Oh man. It's awesome. There is no lack of intensity whatsoever. And we're talking about, when we're doing the simplest of drill, like for example, there's poor GA is pretending to be a quarterback, and they're doing like a strip sack drill. And I think it was Nate Marshall, just kind of not Nate Johnson. He kind of whiffed on the ball. We got to do it again. We're lining up. We're doing it again. Even you got to get out there, and you got to knock the ball out of his hand. You got to knock right the arm. It's intense. Every single one of them, this bag better be on the ground. This ain't patty cake. A lot of those things, it's just intense, intense, intense. The getting them to do it again thing, that seems to be a thing with this stuff. And I don't really remember that before. It's normally like, OK, we'll get it right next time as you go through. Cody did the same thing when they weren't doing the right positioning for running the comeback routes or whatever. Defense is probably not, there's probably not a ton of difference on the defensive side. But you were dead on offense. I've talked to a couple of other high school coaches, and they're like, they've been to every practice, and they get to stay for a lot longer than us. They're like, bro, that offensive side over there is, it's not even remotely similar to what was going on last year. And it's a lot of what you're talking about today. You put a note in about the linebackers. It's not even that significant, but I just think it's awesome. So they all stretch and everything on the indoor, and then they get together, and they break it down, and then everybody runs outside. And it's like the linebackers waited for everyone to clear, and then it was like a race to get to work. You know what I mean? And they were going full speed. I was almost concerned somebody was going to get hurt. But yeah, Bryce D's fastest linebacker, he won. I'm not surprised by that. No, not at all. I'm not surprised by that. Maybe a fully healthy DeMarcus Riddick, but yeah, no, D's, he can fly. He can fly. I think that's it. Those were our takeaways. How can people check out everything you've got going on? Absolutely.
