Kyle Cook in the hot seat, talking all things, trading secrets, a lot happening in life, a lot happening in the markets, a lot happening at pop culture. all the moving parts this week was on CNN. Saturday, got asked to go on Fox & Friends. You give me a platform to talk about finance in today's world, I will talk about it. David Arduin, how you doing, my man? Doing great. Coming off a massive Sabres W game four, tied 2-2, going back to Buffalo. Jay, you mentioned it last 30-minute Thursday. Any chance that you are in person for one of these playoff games here? Well, you know, on Sunday, I'm doing a little thing with Bloomingdale's for the Subway Series, New York Mets, Yankees. So I'll be at that game. Monday was planning on doing a couple of podcasts and heading back to Nashville. But Monday night, if it's going to be game seven in Buffalo, might have to call my boy, David, and we might have to have a conversation. Listen, I don't know if our hearts can take game seven or just the fact leading up to it. But if there is and we're there, I'm not mad about it. Just saying, not mad about it. Not mad about it. It is NHL hockey, playoff hockey. It's the best of the best. The Sabres are in it. David, you and I might be at game seven. How's life though, man? Things before we get into Kyle Cook, how is it? Listen, my main theme for Kyle Cook episode I have here, it's stress. Just stress with a bunch of S's. My life's a little stressed, but you know what? There's light at the end of the tunnel. Anyone who has two kids knows life is stressful. That's the given. It's about how you make it. Ashley and I were recording on 30-minute Thursdays on a Tuesday night at 10.30 p.m. I haven't even started packing because I just put the kids down. We are going to Miami, Jason. we are going to miami for four nights with no kids for the first time ever the best man at my wedding jason resha is getting married snaps to reach and we are excited so this is the moment where all the stress all the hard work we're going to miss the kids so much but my god jason am i looking forward to this four days like what of all the things prep me for the day that hopefully i once have kids what is it that you're like is it is it the silence is it like the sex is it the sleep? Is it the, like, what is it? Those are three S's in a row. I got three things for you. Okay. This is, this is, we've talked about this last night. The three things. Number one is the flight. Okay. Having a flight with no kids on the plane is you have no idea. Like we don't even need a cocktail. We just need to be able to board the plane how we want to board the plane, sit on the plane. Do we want to sleep? Do we want to read a book? Do we want to watch a movie? Do we want to do my thing. I haven't deleted pictures on my phone like I normally do for years because having a kid on a plane, anyone who's been on a plane, has seen the parent struggle, anyone who has kids, number one is having a plane just to relax. It's actually going to be relaxing on the plane, which is incredible. Number two is waking up with absolutely nothing to do. Waking up on our own time, getting out of bed when we want to get out of bed, having coffee when we want to have coffee, doing whatever. Do we want to work out? Do we want to go for a walk? Do we want to lay out? what do we want to do? Getting up without anything to do. And then obviously the intimacy, Jay, the intimacy of being able to do anything you want at any time at a beautiful hotel and beautiful vacation with great vibes and wedding in the air. It's just the perfect opportunity to reconnect with anyone who's been busy, whether you have kids or not, and you go and you have that date night and you look in each other's eyes and you talk about all the shit that you've been putting off finances and family and career and personal and all these things to do it for four days over a weekend. It's going to be incredible. I'm going to come back recharged and juiced up. I'm excited about it, man. I'm excited. If I had to summarize everything I heard, which is a lot there. It's a lot. It feels like freedom. It's just like when you're going to have this little vacation, it's freedom to do what you want, how you want, the way you want. And for a couple of days, you're going to have that mom and dad are going to have a little freedom back to just do what you want how you want relax a little bit kick it off and i know by day two i'm gonna miss those kids so bad it's gonna be ridiculous but we'll be we'll be ready to come home but yeah man freedom in a in a way that you know as people who go through this it's so important to experience but also the the once you have kids the freedom that you never want to fully experience again because the kids bring joy man they do they're nuts they are absolutely nuts but they bring joy and so it's going to be amazing man you were just in Miami that's where you interviewed Kyle Cook flashback to January you were there with Amanda so maybe Miami's just you need hey we need a good guest Jason's just going to fly to Miami and bump into someone and have an epic interview something in the air in Miami but you were with Kyle this is this is a recently filmed episode take me a little behind the scenes here how is he how is he doing I'm sure you talked a little bit more about personal life, not while we were recording. You've known Kyle a long time. How is he? I've said it once. I'll say it again on this podcast. I've known Kyle and Amanda both for a long time. They're both friends of mine and I care both about their hearts and their wellbeing. And through all, I said that on the Amanda episode when Kyle was in a tough spot, go listen to the recap. And so we were there, he was there for a Crocs deal. And then we were both speaking on a panel at the Bloomberg house for F1 Miami. And so the way I'd summarize it, it's like he went through a tornado and I think he's still kind of in the tornado, but he's handling it. I think the beauty of this tornado he's in is it's stripped a layer of probably what I'll call safety from him that he was wearing this armor that was safety and that armor is stripped and you're just getting this vulnerable side of Kyle. And I just want to like hug him. Like, I just want to be like, it's like this sweeter, softer side. That's just, you know, that protection layer is gone. And like, we hung out a lot. We talked a lot. Obviously a lot of this podcast was business focused, but the vulnerable side of Kyle is that Kyle that like, I'm like, dude, to bring this every day, every place, everywhere. Cause it just, I feel more connected to you as a friend than I ever have. And I thought you guys, you did an amazing job as always keeping it, you know, business focused with a little sprinkle of like how personal affects the business, which is why this episode was so good. Correct me if I'm wrong, but man, hearing some of these numbers and the stress and the sheer like $100,000 a month he has to bring in just to cover the loan. That isn't one housing expense, living expense, et cetera, et cetera. We all know, we just talked about with kids, like there was responsibility. I go on vacation. I feel like I have freedom. When you're in a marriage or in your relationship, you always have to think about your other's needs. There's responsibilities or things that you're not doing for yourself because of what needs to be done at the house or for them. Do you think there an element I mean at the end of the day his relationship obviously is over People who watch Summer House and they led us into their lives know that there was some toxicity to it on both sides Do you think there an element where it like hey I have to raise I have to earn 100k a month just to cover the loan. So I need to actually make more than that to survive. Do you think there's an element of that he's feeling freedom because he can do DJing, he can fly to Miami, he can do a speaking event, he can do lacrox, he can put all the energy into the company, at the end of the day, he probably needed to cut that loose so he could survive. Yeah, dude. Yes. I mean, the answer is yes. But I think it all comes down to compatibility. I just don't think when you think about just the things that he's naturally attracted to when it comes to hobbies and free time and where he wants to go and his work ethic and his business-focused mentality. He's a workhorse, man. He wakes up in the morning, works. He goes to bed. He works. His battery doesn't stop. I think there was probably a compatibility thing, but here's what I'll say of it all. And I mean this from the realest, realest places in my body and heart. This guy really, really cares about Amanda. And I haven't talked to Amanda in just a little bit, but I know from Amanda she really really cares about Kyle oh yeah and there's a lot I mean take your judgments out take your noise take your opinions it's not what I'm talking about they're about they have deep care for one another and it's it's really cool to see like that it didn't work out but like they still check in they still care for one another they still love one another and I think it just came down to when you talk about compatibility I think man when he's doing that like tmz guy that he's like running into on the sidewalk and then give him like four minute interviews like that's not that's not random right that's like well that tmz guy actually is a uh i'll call him an acquaintance if you will like he i could text him right now i'm trying to get him to come on the podcast dude because i want to i want to talk all about that business yeah because typically i'll tell you this yeah that the i know the original one like he dude he parks up like and and kyle did not know like the first one yeah did not know that makes sense the second one he had to have known because kyle's hair has never looked better in his entire life than that second one i was like mystified i was like how do you how do you get it that perfect what is that i need that technique i'll never have a hair long enough but yeah the second one i was like okay this definitely he knew this was coming because i can't comment on that because i truly don't know but i know the first one was the first one was real but yeah well i mean i think the better thing is that we need to get adam his name's adam we need to get him on the podcast because like and he wants to come on talk about like he does and outs oh yeah come on yeah unbelievable unbelievably interesting business that he has there that not a lot of people think has a lot of strategy but obviously it probably has all the strategy in the world speaking of strategy anything about this episode as you're listening to it that you didn't know that kind of shot out at you? I mean, it was packed business-wise. There was a lot of numbers that were shared. Again, Kyle always blows me away with his knowledge of not just his business, but the industry, the alcohol industry just sounds horrific. Like horrific to be in in so many hurdles and so many ways that the one line that I have, and I'll kick it to you, is I have a business, people want the product, and I just can't even give it to them. Like it's just too hard to even get it in their hands, which must just drive him absolutely crazy. What kind of stuck out about it to you as someone who's had him on the podcast for three times? There's a few things that stuck out. One, based on the amount of money that he raised. 2.2 million? A lot, because he did a bridge loan and an SBA loan. That means he spent a lot on infrastructure. And I think, and you heard him break it all down. I'm wondering, and I actually said this to him, like for my companies, I know I'm stretched too thin with other things. To manage it all, not to, oh, woe is me, but at the end of the day, you're doing two episodes a week on a podcast. You're running an agency. I've told you this a million times. You're running a creator side. You're running an investor side. You're jumping on CNN and Fox. You go do TV correspondent. You get a call for a show or something. To do it all and lead a business effectively. And I know I'm a great, I do, I know I'm a good business leader. I know that when I'm focused I am when I can give it all there are days that I'm like I got it's just like some days I'm locked in like today I probably put 10 hours into my businesses today tomorrow I'm gonna have other stuff they're gonna pull me and I'm wondering if he might have thought the same thing like he is an owner and an operator and he's Kyle Cook and he's on all these shows and he's creating content it's a lot to do and so I wonder if he would do it again if he would to hire a full-time CEO. And that's a conversation I'd like to have. That's one. Two, just think about. Take your mortgage and then multiply your mortgage by the number that makes sense. Think about your mortgage, guys. And then multiply that mortgage times to get to 4.2 million. And that's the burden you have just for your business loan. It's crazy. Then add your mortgage. Then add your 30 employees. Then add the fact that the alcohol business is getting tougher and tougher. Then add the middleman. Dude, that's what I was saying. My face, if you guys watch the YouTube, I'm in sheer awe just because the amount of stress on top of a divorce, on top of your COO leaving in January, that stress is enough to put someone six feet under. No wonder he drinks too much on TV. Dude, it's so much stress he was dealing with. And currently, honestly, thank God he's getting the support he is, but still on his plate. Like that note's still there. He still has to pay this thing down. Question. What happens if he just says, okay, fuck it. Lover boy, it's great. It's been my life, but it just ain't paying the bills. He then goes bankrupt. He still owes the $4.2 million, correct? Well, the balance now is I think it's paid like $1.3 million, if I remember right. So I think the balance is somewhere in that like $2.9 million. yeah so if he goes bankrupt and lover boy stops earning money obviously because it's bankrupt and let's say he just gets rid of the company he still owes the 2.9 correct okay so i'm not a bankruptcy guy and i never like when i was in finance there's a group called the asset recovery group when you're like lending to large companies or you're doing a syndicated deal and the company starts performing poorly it goes to asset recovery the bank has a special group that's in charge of getting the assets back. I never worked in it. I never touched it. So I can't speak to it. But what I, my guess is, is in bankruptcy, they negotiate a dollar amount that they'll settle on to what they'll get paid back. And then he'll have a personal guarantee. The personal guarantee allows them to take liens on any of his assets. Well, that's what I was saying is with all the time that he's in, we talked last week about time value money, getting the guy to cut your lawn because your times worth more than that do you think there's going to come a point where his time isn't worth lover boy to pay this back and he just invests it in other ventures through brand deals through things of that nature to pay this thing back i mean they're used like the way that summer house dude is ripping right now yeah we go back five years like this was not i mean this is one of the hottest shows with the hottest cast out there his value at a second is going up i don't i don't know how he would be able to continue to do all of it that's what i'm saying man like i love this passion project is lover boy but i hear the stress it's like dude there is we've we've talked about this podcast how much money there is in other avenues get rid of the company save yourself get back on your feet stop having so much stress you single now you in your 40s turn to the page go on the next thing that what i would say to him but i don know there too much fire passion and competitive juices in the kyle cook no what's the saying no one to hold them treasure but no one to hold them no to fold them but hey i mean it's it's it's we'll see we'll see we'll do i cannot wait to do a touch base in like a year Maybe things will continue to turn. They're already turning. We'll see. Anything, David, before rewrap, was there anything to you that was like, because it was very business focused, that you were like, what is that? I don't understand what that means. No, I think I got it, honestly. I thought the distribution and CPG combo was really interesting. I learned a lot about the industry, but we've had him on a couple times. He's talked a lot about the similar things. And so I think I'm up to speed a little bit here. Yeah, I mean, but you talked about bridge loan when you explained it. It's just literally a short-term loan. Last, I don't know, three, six months to three years. It's like you're bridging the gap between financing of some sort that you need. They were obviously going to hire. And I'll tell you one thing I thought about when he was raising all that capital. I'm like, I've had this agency now. We've had it for five years. We've been profitable every year. We're growing every single year. We're all self-funded. so I could really use some capital to grow the company and acquire. That's what I've been thinking about. Okay, question for you. If I wanted to take a home equity loan out right now, let's say $30,000 because I need some cash to invest in some projects and never get a pool because my... Anyways, it's neither here nor there. If I take the 30 grand out... Wait, wait, wait. Hold real quick. You wouldn't get a pool? No. Because I was like... You know what? If I were you, I would get a pool because time, value, and money, you could definitely afford to like have someone do nuts to bolts where it goes back to like the stupid shit of like buying a house is the most biggest purchase you ever make in your life you get to see the thing for 15 fucking minutes and then you buy it and then you walk in and there's no instruction manuals there's no nothing there's no this there's no that and it's all trial and error and it's like yeah just figure it out it's like youtube's great like google's great chat gbt is great but i didn't know that my energy bill was so high and we had a gas was pregnant we had our sun in December like we're not going to use the hot tub this this winter so let's save money by shutting the breaker down to the hot tub so it's not at 104 degrees for six months when we don't use it smart right yeah smart yeah well we went to go check the hot tub there's no water left because all all the pipes froze and burst over the winter and so now to save a fucking 16 cents a a day i i gotta replace the pipes for 2500 bucks it doesn't end dude it doesn't end like i mean i just i'm you know i'm new to home ownership you've been doing it forever but i i just every day i wake up i'm like i could not work for the next six months and this house still won't be like done to it it's just it's just the hits keep on coming that security oh the true green yeah we're We got to get this lawn in good shape. Oh, we got to get this outdoor furniture. That TV broke. Oh, dude. Yeah, I didn't want to go there. So anyways, I take a $30,000 out, okay? Okay. Do I have to pay that back immediately? Or does that just go against like, is that like a loan that I get that when I eventually sell the house, I just give it back when I sell the house? Is that a dumb question? I think what you're asking me is, here's how it works. When you have a HELOC, it's a home equity line of credit. And the reason that people do it is you're borrowing against your asset, which is your house, which has equity. Because you have equity in it, it's going to be a lower rate and it's going to be cheaper. And it has collateral, right? So the bank can go get your house. So it reduces the risk. They have a draw period. So you could, let's say you could draw down and the draw period based on the HELOC will, I don't know, might be five years or 10 years. It's the period that you can buy it down and it's kind of, or you can borrow off it. And payments are usually, it depends on the structure, but usually they're like interest only. So what would you want to use that 30,000 for? probably like little projects that need to get done like i got my pool vacuum i took it out of storage fucking things snapped in half now it doesn't move so i gotta get a new pool vacuum i gotta get the there's just a bunch of things and i honestly would just probably have some just liquid just to get me through and not be so stressed paycheck to paycheck while i have it and i do have a lot of i do i probably have current value of home for what i bought it for i probably have two hundred thousand dollars in equity and that's what it's that's exactly what it's for It's credit card has no leverage, no collateral. So the fees are so high because you have a house behind it. You're pretty much, it's a, it's a line of credit and you could use it for these one-time expenses that come up and then you can pay it back as your paychecks come in and it'll be a lower rate. So it's, it's, it's, it's not a, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to take your brain. I'm going to, I'm going to call you. It's actually a really good, okay. Call me on the side for this. it's also a really good, like if you have, if you have credit card debt and you are looking to consolidate your debt, all you're trying to do is consolidating debt is find other debt that is cheaper than your credit card debt. So you could use a heat lock, which will be cheaper than your credit card debt, pay off your credit card and then use that to restructure the cost. Look at that. Learning something. A lot going on there. What else we, I mean, dude, there's a lot, there's a lot happening right now. We got, uh, you know, a couple of wars going on, you know, So that's happening. Inflation's popping up. Wage growth is decreasing a little bit. AI is full force. Youth unemployment's a little high, but unemployment's going down. I mean, I talked a little bit about this on the CNN piece, but we are living in a very interesting financial conundrum right now, where it's like markets are trading at all time highs, but consumer sentiment of their feelings about their spending and where they're feeling pain at the pumps and at the grocery stores and at rent and insurance costs is significant. Again, it's a very interesting world we're living in that feels somewhat unpredictable. So that's a little bit about the markets, but there's also a lot happening in pop culture too. There's a lot going on in my life. There's a lot going on in your life. Where do you want to take the next steps to 30 Minute Thursday here, brother? Oh man, well, I mean, really quickly, pop culture, Alex Earl, cover of Sports Illustrated. It's just a massive, she just keeps her star, just keeps rising. Not really touching on the Alex Cooper drama yet. And why would she? Let the haters hate. She keeps crushing it. we got love island starting in june season eight love island usa you gonna stop me here yeah i mean it was it was so you had hillary duff and alex earl right around the cover tiffany haddish nicole what a comeback she's making oh oh yeah she's in it right now it was really interesting to see like they got britney roe holmes looks like kristin kristin goff oh wow that's cool i feel like that's a digital cover i feel like katherine will love that who else is in there oh claire kittles in there uh hallie cavadar yeah a lot of football those are cover bethany frankl's in there okay hannah burner bethany frankl oh landry is in there remy bader okay a lot of guests with trading like a trading secrets alumni oh yeah okay camille costick of course brooks nader's sister i want to get her on she's in finance she's great so yeah i mean Daphne Frankel just became Facebook official or Instagram official. Hard launch. Hard launch. We love Daphne Frankel. Other trading secrets. You said Alandria, Love Island, season eight, starting USA in June. Sierra just got asked to be co-host of Aftersun. Sierra is going over to Fiji to be the co-host of Aftersun, going right from Fiji to Summerhouse, the film season 11, and then going right from Summerhouse for Dancing with the Stars. That's called, what's it, being booked or something like that? That's booked and busy, baby. Booked and busy, baby. And then it was like a week later, they decided they're not going to have any other reality stars from any other shows. And it was like two days later, they announced Taylor Frankie Paul is the Bachelorette. So my manager was like, I think they probably got wooden then. Like, oh, we might have some competition here. So we're taking all Bachelorette people off our list. Either way, I went to Fiji for that. Now you got Sierra running the show. She is. I don't think she's coming down from this high. She is. She's crushing it. She's kicking ass, taking names. She's throwing daggers out there on threads. It's kind of electric to just sit back and watch. Dude, she's a great chirper. Oh, phenomenal, too. Phenomenal. I mean, her chirps. I'd be scared of her. I wouldn't want to be on her outside. Yeah, no, I wouldn't. She's just like, she's so fucking smart, too, with her wit. Yeah, love it. You said Rochester. Next to Rochester is Buffalo. Bills versus Lions. Opening the new stadium September 17th, Thursday night. Actually, Adam Dolick's the song that Catherine and I used on one of our reels when we talked about just moving in. And Todd Anderson, a big fitness and health guru in town. A bunch of really great people. How did you like the Eagles? Unbelievable. I saw them at the Sphere. Joe Walsh, 78 years old, just ripping. Just ripping up there. It was unbelievable. I saw them at the Sphere in Vegas. The Sphere is incredible. Yeah, it is. Gotta love the Sphere. You've been there more than I have probably. anywhere i gotta go anywhere that we have to go anything we have to do we're staying in we're staying in the south beach area not quite deep down in south beach like 50 minutes north at the palms hotel and spa anything we gotta do they got the best italian food and they got the best sushi we both reservations we have our sushi we're going to mila and mila is so good yeah we're going to water it's good water's good yeah you're gonna oh you've been all the spots oh well you know Miami we've done some podcasts I might buy my first shirt from a store since before I had kids so that would be exciting what do you mean I haven't bought a piece of clothing for myself since COVID probably I feel like there's things in life that are so worth buying but I feel like I don't know let's suppose we go out to dinner you and I have the best time ever it's 400 bucks for that dinner drinks, steak, we're having a great dinner if i see a piece of furniture like a chair that's 400 bucks i'm like what no shot no and dude that's 400 bucks these days like i'm on these sites all the time that's like nothing for a chair so i i haven't really figured out from a spending perspective in my head like why do some things make sense and some things don't yeah like you see shirts dude that are like you know these shirts are 100 bucks 200 bucks 200 bucks and it's like you know they're making 90 margin on that but it's a shirt that you could wear it's if you're go-to shirt you're wearing it 50 times yeah yeah it's really interesting and i'd be curious the listeners here maybe give us five stars in the comments what are things that like okay just imagine 200 bucks goes out the door what's 200 bucks that you're like okay that's cool but if you take the same 200 bucks in in another area you're like no i'm not for it i feel like we all have those things anything to do with health and nutrition. We think 200 bucks is the biggest thing in the world and we'll never do it. Yeah. It's interesting. Fascinating. Yeah. It's disgusting. Really? Well, on that note, talking about homes and all the things that we love about them, we have Gailey Alex coming on on Monday to talk all about home rentals. She has a show on HBO, HGTV. She literally goes into home 72 hours, says, tell me your budget. They get to say nothing. They don't get to have any input. They come back in three days and they get to see your work and she's coming on the show. so anything else before we wrap 30 minute Thursday it was good it's 11 01 p.m my flight leaves in seven hours I haven't packed a morsel yet the kids are sleeping so I'm gonna go pack and try and fall asleep for three hours you go pack I am complaining to the wrong guy but I got four nights in a row less than six hours of sleep here I'm at the five hour mark five hour mark five hour mark so I'm gonna try and throw in a seven eight hour night shift here David have a great time in Miami.
