Summary

Nightcap Hour 1 covers March Madness upsets including Iowa's stunning victory over #1 Florida, St. John's buzzer-beater win over Kansas, Tennessee's Sweet 16 advance, and UConn's dominant performance. The hosts discuss tournament dynamics, player development, college basketball coaching challenges, and tangential conversations about superstitions, fitness, and personal preferences.

Insights
  • Lower-seeded teams gain psychological momentum when allowed to stay close; Florida's defensive gamble in final seconds exemplifies how coaching decisions under pressure can backfire against determined underdogs
  • College basketball's one-and-done model creates continuity problems that hinder team chemistry and player development, making championships harder to win despite elite talent accumulation
  • Defensive intensity and disciplined execution matter more than individual talent in tournament play; teams that force turnovers and control pace gain competitive advantages
  • Player consistency and love of the game separate sustainable performers from talented but inconsistent players; professional success requires daily commitment beyond natural ability
  • Coaching pedigree and experience (like Rick Pitino's track record) provides credibility and composure in high-pressure situations that translates to player confidence

Just like the reason why Morgan & Morgan is America's largest injury law firm. They've been doing business for over 35 years, fighting for people just like me, just like all of you out there listening. And when I say large, we mean large. Morgan & Morgan has over 100 offices, more than 1,000 lawyers nationwide. That's not a law firm. That's a whole damn squad. When hiring Morgan & Morgan, it's like hiring an army that has your back. And the numbers speak for themselves. They recovered over $25 billion for more than 500,000 clients. Real results like in Florida. One client got $12 million after the insurance company offered $350,000. And in Pennsylvania, a client ended up with $29 million when the insurance best offer was $500K. Wow! If you're injured because somebody else was negligent, you deserve to be paid. Here's the thing. If you hire the wrong law firm, you might get beat before the game even starts. The Hawkeyes to the Sweet 16, and in the process of getting there, they had to knock off the defending number one seed, the Florida Gators. On the first year head coach, Ben McCollum, the Hawkeyes reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1999 while sending the 27 and 8 Florida Gators, became the first number one seed to be knocked out in this year's March Madness. Iowa, 23-12, wasted a 12-point lead in the final seconds, but rallied to become the first number nine seed to be the number one since 2018 when Florida State shocked Xavier. The Hawkeyes will face the number four seed, Nebraska Cornhuskers, in the South Regional Semifinals on Thursday night in Houston. Joe, how were the Hawkeyes able to pull this off? Man, obviously, I've seen Florida big man. He only played 20 minutes. He had four fouls. He had four fouls. I know they got him in foul trouble. Man, they were just tough. They weren't going to back down. They weren't going to back down. They kept themselves in closing range. At the end of the game, man, why? Why would you take that gamble and let that man get in front of you? Now you put your teammate in the huckabuck to where now he got to either take the ball or take the man in the corner. Man. Come on, man. I said the same thing. I don't know why you press that hard because it's not like it's – I mean, nine seconds is a lot of time. It's not like it's three seconds, Joe. It's nine seconds. Yeah. And so you run that risk and you give him the side. So you don't got no cutoff point. You don't got nobody that you can direct him to. There ain't no interference. So he's got a clear shot. He's either going all the way to the basket or he going to keep it. Right. I don't know what Boogie Flynn was thinking on that one. But, hey, give kudos to Iowa, man. They play hard, disciplined. And I always talk about the bigs that Florida got. And they once got them bigs. Hey, them boys, Iowa's probably more physical than Florida. Okay, Ocho? Mm-hmm. Yeah. they shot 50% from the floor. They didn't shoot. Neither team really shot well from the three-point line. Iowa was 29%, 7-24. And Florida was 6-19 for 32%. Neither team was really good from the free throw line. 64% for Iowa, 74% for Florida. But the thing is that when you're number one seed and the longer you let the lower seed hang around, Lord forbid that Joker get a lead and he in the second half. Yep. they really start to believe. They're like, oh, we can beat this team. Yeah, we can hang. Confidence. There might have been doubt in the beginning, but you didn't remove that. There you go. So now you got hell on your hands. Yeah. Go ahead, Ocho. And we're going to say, you know, the closer that game get in that second half, you know, asses get a little bit more title. You know, everybody get a little bit more gunshot. You know, hey, it's a different kind of pressure. Listen, I've never been in that situation like that. I've never played basketball at this level to be in a tournament's magnitude, but I understand pressure situations and what it does to you. You get a little bit nervous. You've been in pressure situation. You've had a big lead in Cincinnati and the team whittled that ish down and you've got to go back out there because you don't want to give that offense the ball. You know exactly what pressure is. I know what you mean. I know what you mean. Yeah. Oh yeah, absolutely. You know, hey, man, Carson telling you and Hoosh, man, look, we can't give them the ball back. Hey, both hands on the football. Hey, get it, get down. We don't need no extra yards. We don't need anybody to play hero. Hey, look, but my thing is for the Iowa and Florida game, why don't you just keep your man in front, make him take a tough shot? I just didn't understand them pressing like that and then gambling the way that they did. I'm like, what they... No, there was no need. If that guy hit a shot like the guy in Kentucky, Joe, I just throw my hand. You got to live with that. You live with that. He's in a 40 foot bank shot. Okay, I live with that. But why would you risk it in that situation? Most guys can probably get from one end to the other, 94 feet, they can get there about three seconds. Yeah, easy. They can get there about three seconds. He's got nine. So now all he has to do is, hey, the way dude shot that, like he'd been making threes his whole life. You hear me? Hey, oh, oh, no. Because he could have took a dribble or two and tried to get to the basket. That man . You know what? We finna step back. We going home or we going to the next round? Hey, one or the other. Ain't no gray area about it. I love it. I love it. It takes Gus to shoot that type of shot, bro. That's the same joke. Hey, he's like, I'm all the, hey, I'm dribbling all my chips to the middle of the table. He feels that like, son, damn, son, you had a couple of dribbles. You could have dribbled a couple and got a closer shot. He like, no, I want that. I want to make it as difficult as I possibly can. I'm coming up. Dude dribbled like, nah, let me get this step back in. Man, that's a tough shot, Uncle Ojo. That's a tough shot. That man took a dribble. He took a dribble like he was going in and I'm, oh, man, step back for three for game. Hey, that's my kind of guy. It's March Madness. That's what I'm talking about. Man, he shot that thing like he was Steph Curry. That was some Steph Curry-ish. Hey, look, you got the number one seed. And we going to overtime. They might pull out on it. But if I go and shoot this dagger, yes. Hit it. Because you're not expected to win anyway. So even if you lose, everybody's going to say you played a tough game. That's the defending champs. They got X, Y, and Z. They got NBA players on that roster. That's what people are going to say. Hey, look, I know it doesn't do you any cost. It doesn't make you feel any better that you played a number one seed, the defending champ, Dallas. Yeah. Why? That don't make you feel any better. but it's not as much pressure. Now, Florida had that shot. That's pressure because now I'm the number one seed. I'm not even supposed to be in this situation. Now that I think about it, Ocho and Joe, I ain't even supposed to be here. Yeah. We ain't supposed to be up by 10 with like 20 seconds to go, and we get some guys in that don't normally play. We normally get them off the bench so they can feel what it's like to be in the March Madness. And here we are. We find ourselves in some bull. Oh man. What Florida doing bro? They done messed up my bracket. I know who bracket they didn't mess up. You know what? I might hire Michael Buffs. You had him. You had him. You had him losing. You had him losing the hour. I didn't have them going to the final four. Oh, hey Joe had the boy going to the final four? Yeah. And you had Virginia going to the final four. Me? My Elite Eight and my Final Four bracket is still intact. Wait, what about mine? Mm-mm. Because you have Virginia. I ain't. I can't be that far behind, though. No, no, no, no, Joe, I'm just saying. You can't get no more points from Florida. My Final Four picks and my Elite Eight picks, they still there. I can still get points. Hold on. So is my. I can still get points too. Oh, Joe, you have Florida in the finals? Huh? You're a high. I had one. Florida in the finals? Man, I had that get back with Florida, boy. The way they did us during the season, I had some. Oh, so you, so it was a revenge matchup for you. You let your pride get you. He, he, he, hey, hey, hey. He pick it, he pick it with his heart. He pick the way he's hard. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. It just would have been perfect set up. Well, Florida made it, we make it, the Razorbacks make it, and we get that get back. But now that Florida gone, we ain't even got to talk about them no more. We ain't got to talk about them no more. We talk about them Razorbacks. Oh, Ocho, I don't know if you noticed this, but if you notice what Joe did, he picked basically all his damn SEC teams to go as far as he can. Yeah, he did. He think he's slick. He talking about you picking mascots. All he did, I said, oh, that's Tennessee. Oh yeah, let's put them in. Oh, that's Florida, let's put them in. That's bad to be. I'm like, well, damn. I'm looking at his bracket, I'm like, well, damn. Hey, with Joe, Joe in the back of the line now. Ain't no way, ain't no way. Nah, nah, he still doing good. He must be thought this was football. He did it. But now this was a good game. This is why you like March Madness because the underdog really does have a chance. We've seen it not only in March Madness, but we see it in the national championship game. We've seen it in the semifinals. We saw what Christian Lever did. We saw that he, that he, that they threw the ball to him and he gets the ball and he whew, whew, wham. We saw that. I saw U.S. Reid. I think this was in probably 81, hit a half-court shot. Did you? It might have been Arkansas. Yeah, yeah, U.S. Reid played for Arkansas. Yeah, it might have been Arkansas against Louisville or somebody. When did U.S. Reid hit that half-court shot and sent them on to the next round? That was really the first time that I had seen, that understood what Mark's Maddie was about. Is that, you know, an underdog winning. I think that was. They beat Louisville. if I'm not mistaken. I think so. Because I think it was after Louisville had won the national championship because Louisville won the national championship in 1980. They beat Louisville. Not Louisville. Excuse me. They beat UCLA. Denny Crum was a Louisville coach and Larry Brown was a... Which Larry Brown? 76 is Larry Brown? Yes. Yes. He coached UCLA and he coached Kansas. Yeah. Yeah. I just said that. I just said that. U.S. Reid, Arkansas, hit a half-court shot to beat Louisville in 81 because Louisville won the national championship in 1980. Yeah, in 81, Indiana won the national championship. That's when they beat UNC. Okay. The same year that Hinkley tried to assassinate Ronald Reagan. and they thought about calling the game but they didn't they played on so that was really the first time that I really understood because I hadn't seen any buzzer beaters like that before but man I'm sorry Joe what's that man your team ain't winning no my team won I'm raising I'm big he raises Joe Yo, you do realize you about where to throw your- Arkansas rules is over for you. We're not talking no else. Don't even put that bad juju out there. That's why I be talking to your uncle about that, man. Y'all be- Hey, hey, hey, Joe, it's not juju. It is, it is bad juju. No, it ain't. Joe, you superstitious? Yeah. I don't know somebody from the South that's not superstitious. I mean, I'm not superstitious. I mean, whatever's to be- Let me ask you a question. Do y'all ever play the game, step on the crack, break your mama back? Nah, I remember that though. I remember that, I remember that. I remember that. You ain't step on no crack. If somebody, you didn't walk between, if there's a pole, both of y'all walk on the same side. Oh, you read that pole. Right, right. Yeah. Boy, my grandma, my grandma, boy. Don't you split that pole. Right, right. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, I still do that and I don't know why. I don't know why. You superstitious, you know. I tell you what, I bet you ain't never broke, you ain't tried to break no mirror. You don't want that seven years bad luck. Oh, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. Hey, when y'all play, y'all ain't had no superstitions, like some good luck socks or Yeah absolutely Yeah yeah yeah yeah Oh yeah oh yeah Same thing you know they did the same thing I had three blueberry cake donuts I had three packs of big red gum. I had four Advil. I mean, Tylenol sitting in my locker room. Yeah. Absolutely. Socks folded. They put me, give me lineman socks, Ocho, because you know it's lineman socks, 6'6 to 6'8. I go back and get running back socks because they come a little lower. So they would put those socks in. I would get those socks, take them back to the equipment manager, he give me the running back socks, I put those in. I get ready, yeah, oh, what? Get taped twice, I get taped once, medium taped, and then when I come back in to go out for the game, I get that mold skin, I get that thing on my skin. Hey, that mold skin tough, boy they don't know nothing about that mold skin. Boy, if you twist your ankle with mold skin, you done broke your ish. That mold skin lock you in, boy. Man, that, hey, you ain't ripping that like, They got to cut that with scissors. Yes sir. I don't know how you use that tape, boy. Man, I don't know. I told you, Ocho, I be looking at these guys now. I look at Devontae Adams, I look at Tyreek, and I look at all these kids that don't wear no tape. They wear ankle socks. Yeah, I said that. With no support, no support. Nothing. My ankles start hurting looking at them. Yeah. I'm like, well, damn, I ain't even playing. I start rubbing my ankles. Hey Joe, you take your ankles. Yeah, I had to, old Joe. I had to stop and go on, cut, lateral move. Right. I couldn't do it, Joe. You couldn't? I couldn't do it. Now, there'll be some pictures. You'll see me, I have spat on my shoes, but I'm doing that for style. You want to look good. Yeah, but outside of that, if you see me with regular cleats on, you can actually see the shoe, because I got in trouble with Reebok. They say you got to stop spating your shoe because we want the logo to show. So I stopped spattin' him. I stopped spattin' him, Joe, I can't, I have to feel the floor. And then I had him take all the foam and all the padding out my shoe. So if I showed you my football cleat, I could take it and bend it, and bend it in half. So I needed my, Joe, I needed my shoe to feel like a track shoe. I need to feel the flow. I need to feel everything. You must wasn't plan on getting touched when you were out there. Oh, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. Them feet, but I don't play with them. I don't know how he did that. He neither. I remember in college, Ocho, we went out there with practice one day. Yeah. Man, we saw Penn State, all the boys had that spat on. Yeah. He'll say, hell no, that is sharp. Man, we try to be like Penn State, cause you know Penn State, all they, they was like black and white, and they had them shoes spatting. Yeah. I think the boy was looking good. Coach Davis said, hell no home, cut that issue off, cut it off. I'm like that, I'm like, we already got it on. That little sped it. Hold on, y'all came out there with that spat all up. Yeah, we came out there spat, cause you know we ain't, hey, we done saw Penn State do it. Yeah. Hey, they say if you ain't spat it up, boy, you ain't talking about nothing out there. Nah, oh boy, hey, spat was, but we, I mean, we didn't have it like that. I remember we ended up having it because we run out of pre-wrap, Ocho, probably like week seven, we gotta steal toilet paper. Man, shit. Yeah, he told me to have Ocho back. We steal the pre-wrap, we done stole pre-wrap out the girls' door, we done stole them out the bathroom at the hall, yeah, yeah, cause we out of pre-wrap. Man, you gotta do it. I remember my rookie year in Denver, Ocho, you know how they do, Ocho, once you get down to like, they don't go all the way down to the rind of the tape, It might be a quarter of a roll of tape still. And they just, I said, Greek, would you mind if you know all the tape that y'all don't be using in the pre-wrap? Can you throw it in a box? Man, I ship like two or three, four boxes to Savannah State. Yeah, so they have some? Yeah. Because you don't, come on, Ocho. Gatorade, all that kind of stuff. Man, come on, man. They just be waiting for the issue. Yeah, they do. Yeah, Gatorade don't get drank. They pour it out. We drinking at the bar. you're not finna pull nothing out but they don't make Gatorade like that oh Joe you remember they used to have Joe you remember you had that water and they poured the powder in there and mix it together yeah that's what we used to have that powder you don't drink at all it be right there for you tomorrow yeah they don't do it St. John's my team beat Kansas 67-65 despite executing 36% from the field and nearly coughing up a 14-point lead. The Johnnies did it. I'm John Green. You may know me as the author of The Fault in Our Stars, and now I guess also as the co-host of The Away End, a brand new world soccer podcast. I'm Daniel Alarcon, a writer and journalist, and John and I have known each other since we were kids. My first World Cup was Mexico 86. I was nine years old. I watched every game, and I fell in love. On our new podcast, The Away End, we'll share with you the magic of international football, all leading up to the 2026 World Cup. For us, soccer... Football. ...is a story we've shared for over 30 years since Daniel was the star player on our high school soccer team. Very debatable. And I was their most loyal and sometimes only fan. I love this game. I love its history, its hope, its heartbreak, and above all, its beauty. Together, we'll find out why, of all the unimportant things, football, soccer, is the most important. Listen to The Away End with Daniel Alarcon and John Green on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Makes his money. Each episode emanates from our very own speakeasy where we swap stories about the moments that really shaped us on and off camera. What do we invest in right now? What is the immediate advice you give people right now? Is to value time, to be cognizant of time and how important time is. Because once the time is up, it's up and then that's it. And the relationships, collaborations, and even the failures that pushed us to grow. And the common denominator is that we have the same people with us since like 30, 40 years ago, right? Like we have a lot of the same homies that stuck around. Plus, the door always stays open for a third amigo to pull up a chair. Listen to Dos Amigos as part of the My Cultura Podcast Network, available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up? I'm Miles Turner. And I'm Brianna Stewart. And our podcast, Game Recognized Game, has never been done before. Two active players giving you a real look at our lives and what we actually think on and off the court. Nothing's off limits. We talk trade requests. What's the vibe of that when it's like your star player is like, well, I want to leave. And then actually now I'm going to stay. We talk tanking. I mean, honestly, like, I might get in trouble for this answer, but I think it's like definitely happening in the WBA. And yeah, we talk about our mistakes, too. They pulled me to the side and was like, hey, man, we got a call last night. You can't be rolling around the city like this tonight for games. No, you know, doing this, doing whatever. And of course, family stories. They'll be like, Mommy, why did you miss that? Mommy, do you play basketball? Check out Game Recognized Game with Stewie and Miles on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. ...to survive thanks to Dylan Darling's buzzer beater. Bryce Hopkins scored 18, added seven rebounds, and most importantly drained a season-high six of his nine three-point attempts. St. John's defense also shut down Kansas for most of the game, forcing the Jayhawks into 16 pern overs. The St. Johns, they head to the Sweet 16 to take on the number one overall seed, Duke Blue Devils. Yeah. Hey, Unk, and Joe, that last shot, right? That buzzer beat off the glass, right? You hear me? Why he didn't, I mean, why not send him to the foul line and make both them shots as opposed to just let him wall you off? and he the smaller, he the smaller, he the smaller person. No, you ain't want nobody to go to the free throw line with no time on the clock because all he got to do is make one. No, hell no. I'd rather put young Bull in that pressure situation as opposed to just let him hit the goddamn shot at the end of the game. But you do realize, Ocho, at that point, he hadn't scored a point the whole game. Right. He hadn't scored a point. That's like Carson throwing somebody the game-winning touchdown, and he ain't caught a pass the whole day. All game? Okay. And so, I mean, if what Coach Pitino said, he asked him what he wanted, and he wanted power, which means he wanted the ball in his hand. Yeah. Coach Pitino looking at him like, bro, you got zero points. Yeah. And you with the game on the line, okay, go get it. Amen. Man. And you got the big, you got the conference player of the year on your roster. Edge of four. Edge of four. I wonder if he any kind of Chewy Tail. Hey, that big boy beats down there too. Man, do you see how big he, dude look, he about 6'9", about 280. He is 6'9". He is about 6'9". He is. I mean, listen, St. John got some dogs over there. Yeah, he was balling, man. Hey, look, I ain't even just talking about the ball. I'm talking about the defense they played, the intensity. They played early on. There was, ooh, there was, how many times did they force them to throw the ball out of bounds, Joe? On the airbounds. Hey, there's one thing about great coaches, bro. They going to have their teams ready to play. Get Rick Pitino some credit because them boys came out with it on their mind. I'm talking about they busting through screens. You can't even screen, dude. They busting through screens, cutting their man out. defensively they oh man they locked in oh they were so locked in oh they got out of them boys man hey buddy buddy hit that shot he made the layup right right in the buzzer and the camera pan right to coach well he ain't show no kind of emotion it's like okay he done done that man rick patino just another day rick patino ocho he he done been that done that bro yeah he done been a lot of stops you gotta think about it he'd had this at providence i think he took providence to the Final Four when he had Billy Donovan. He won the national championship with Kentucky. He won the national championship with Louisville. I think he went to Iona. I think he went to Iona after he kind of got in that. He had to reinvent himself in Iona. Come back to the St. John's. Now, back in the 80s, St. John's had a stick. When they had Walter Berry, they had Chris Mullen. Chris Mullen. Lefty. Boy, they had a stick. Coach Karnaseka with those sweaters. The Big East was it. Big John, Coach Thompson, Coach Lou, Jim Boeheim. Boy, they had a stick. Yeah, they had it on a lot. And Coach Wally Massimino in Villanova. Because if I'm not mistaken, I think one year they got three of them, 14. Three of them was in the final four. Because Villanova might have been 85. Because Villanova ended up beating. Might have been 84-85 because Villanova ended up beating Georgetown when they shot that ridiculous number from the field. It's like they couldn't miss. Ed Pinkney went crazy that's when they had I think they had Gary McClain but man it was Villanova Ed Pinkney but boy St. John's did it I was like bro I'm watching this and I'm like Joe I'm feeling good we up 14 under 5 I'm like I'm feeling good I'm like yeah we got this one man I look up I say Todd I say come on St. John's I just knew we had this was going to be a cakewalk. What did you think about this potential number one pick, Darren Peterson? Oh, look, he can play. But I think people are going to pull himself out of the game, be it whether it's cramps, it's injuries, or whatever the case may be. I think they're looking because when I look at DeBonza, I'm looking at a guy that's 6'9", that has an NBA body right now as we speak. Yeah. And he doesn't have the issues. Give him a choice, Ocho, because I'm going to entrust you to lead my team. I'm going to entrust you with 40, 50, 60, 70 million dollars. And then hopefully I'm going to give you another, I'm going to give you in three, four years, I'm going to give you $200 million. I'm taking the bonzer. Darren Peterson is a great talent I think he will be a top three pick I do, yeah And I think in some form When he gets to the pros Uncle Ocho, they'll teach him Teach him more how to take care of his body What he should put in And things of that sort So that don't necessarily worry me I just want to know Does he really love the game? Does he really love competing? That's all I want to know, man Because if you Yep Hey, but, Joe, you got to think about it, Joe. As good as Peterson is, right? Yes. You know, despite the turmoil during the season, taking himself out, cramping up, whatever it may be, you got to love the game to get as good as he is. You have to love it, especially when it comes to competing, especially at this level. You know, you're playing college ball, and you're regarded as one of the better players in the entirety of college basketball. That ain't no mistake, Joe. That ain't no accident. No, sometimes, Ocho, you can have such God-given ability. And I've seen guys that they don't love it, they're just good at it. And I can make an honest living. Because at the end of the day, Ocho, in college, you're playing 30, 32 games. When you get to the pros, bro, 82 games, it's a lot. And I'm going to tell you something. They already talk about the rookie wall. Like, it's a lot, bro. I know they do the load management and all that. but man, mentally, physically, emotionally, it takes a lot on your body, bro. And not everybody can handle it. Yeah. You know, the funny thing is too, Unc? Huh? You know what I was gonna say too? Remember what you just said, most of the time what happens when players or people are blessed by God and they don't do the work, you know, you get exposed at some point anyway. Yeah. You get exposed, especially once you get to that next level. Yeah. Once he gets to the NBA, If you don't love the game and put the work in like you got to, you ain't going to be that long. It's real tough. Yes. It's too. Because you got to realize, like in high school, you're like, okay, but when you get to college, a lot of those guys were all state players. All those guys were all region, all county players. And as you keep moving up, guess what? There were a lot of, okay, you were college player of the year, but guess what? On your own team, you might have had five college players. Right, right, right. The Heisman Trophy winner, Bukas, Bagnari, Thorpe, Belitnikoff. Okay. If you don't put that work in, because look, everybody at the next level, regardless of how acclaimed you are, everybody at the next level can make you look foolish in a given game. A guy that you like, I ain't never heard of this guy before, will light your butt up. Yeah, yeah. So if you don't go out there and be prepared, now you look, man, he ain't no good. No, no, he good. Yo, yeah. Oh, boy. Oh, boy, just handed it to her. Hey, you hear what Sherm said? Sherm said, man, I went out there, I ain't really know a whole lot about Stevie Johnson. Man, by 10 catches, 165 yards later, I knew a lot about Stevie Johnson. Hey, boy, Stevie the real deal, boy. Yeah. Yeah. And so, and that's the thing. And plus, Ocho, you got to realize that once you get to the pros, ain't nobody telling you what to do. They don't tell you. They don't check and see if you go to study hall. They don't check and see if you go to class. They don't check and see if you working out. That's all you. That's all you. So now if you don't see what happens when you don't love something, now all of a sudden that dips. Yeah. Look at the guys that love it. You see? And people are like, well, Jokic, he care about horses. look at Jokic on the sideline when things ain't going his way and you tell me he don't love it he's yelling he's trying to draw stuff up yes absolutely you got to be that great for an extended period of time it ain't nothing to burst on the team how many guys we don't see make the Pro Bowl one year and we never hear from them again it's easy to make it one time but when you make the Pro Bowl you make all pro guess what the opposing team is going to start game for your ass. Now let's see it when they know what you're doing. Yeah. You the best receiver, now you get our best cornerback. Now you get our undivided attention. Now you get coverages called to stop your punk ass. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Joe, you get the defense. They coming. Oh, we gonna trap Joe, we gonna blitz Joe. Hey, y'all hedge there, you sure? Hey, don't let, hey, he wanna run that pick and roll. He gonna try to pin you, hey, don't let Joe come out that pin now. Yeah, yeah. See, I know Joe love that pitch down now. He gon'- Hey, let me get a little separation. All I need is a little crease, Ocho. That thing can't. Hey, just a little space, Joe. It can't, Ocho. Yeah, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. The hardest part about any sports you play at the highest level is about consistency. Thank you. It's hard to be consistent. Hell yeah. And the better you are at what you do, the more discipline you got to have, Joe. especially when it comes to your craft what I find to be the toughest when you turn pro is showing up you gotta show up everyday even on days you don't even feel like it not only do you gotta show up but you gotta come ready to compete and play and that's why I say through a 6 to 8 month season bro you not gonna wake up everyday and wanna go out there and compete and wanna play or wanna go to practice but you have This is part of it You know the ones that love it they look forward to that You know what I mean So that my biggest concern I did. Man, I look forward to going. Man, I wanted to see the guys, Ocho, because I done worked on some new materials, some jokes. I couldn't wait to get to the locker room. Yeah. The bus rides, being on that bus ride, Ocho, you know, hey, Joe, I don't know how y'all did it, But you know, everybody, man, what, Sean, what bus you getting on? I'm getting on bus two. Don't get on bus one because that's where the head coach is. That's where I'm owning his wife every day. Yeah, yeah. They forward over there. Man, we got coaches. The coaches try to get on bus two because they know we're going to have that thing rocking going to the store. Don't let us win. I'm, boy, I'm Dave Chappelle. I'm Dave, oh, I am Dave Chappelle. Even when the coaches, the coaches coming back here with us. What y'all got going on back here? Don't worry about what we got going on back here. We got – y'all already know we got some bulljive going on back here. Hey, man, you appreciate great teammates, bro. I'll tell y'all one guy that really sticked out to me when I was in my young career, like second, third year, Bo Outlaw. I played with Bo Outlaw. Okay. Hey, I remember Bo. Hey, man, Bo used to kick it. I'm talking about off the court and everything. But every day, Uncle Ocho, he showed up the same way, the same happy smile, Cracking jokes, having a good time. I'm talking about it wasn't a day he showed up and he was pissed out. I'm like, man, how this man, he first went in the weight room, you know what I mean? Like he was just a hard working dude. And I learned so much from him. But he was a super cool dude, man. Me and Bo really, we got some real stories, boy. Bo kick it, boy. Cause think about it. Your whole life, Ojo, you grew up, you and Joe, we all kind of grew up very, very similar situations. Yeah. Your whole life you dreamed of that situation. God bless you with talent and put you in this situation. How could you not? That's what I don't get. How could you not? Everything you had asked for, Lord, please just let me be good enough. Let me be talented enough to make it to college. Let me make it to the NBA. Ta-da, here we are. And now all of a sudden you get lazy because you're here? Shh, man, please. The easy part is getting there. The hard part is staying there. So who else in hell? Well, getting there not easy either, man. No. You think about it. It's easier to get there and stay than to get there, get out, and try to get your ass back in. Get back in. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. What they say when you leave a sporting event, no re-entries. That's the same with sports. You get your ass out of these leagues, it's hard as hell to get back in. Unless you got a homeboy working to let your ass in the side, though. yeah i'm like bro man hey couldn't tell hey i couldn't wait to work out because i've always been the guy i love to work out so i was a guy that once i was done with football now there's some people that look they look at it like i play a sport i work out because i have to play a sport once i'm done with sports i ain't working out no damn that that was the opposite of me right i'm like man y'all i like to work out that's why people that they really like that really like to work out. They don't give them them half a million, $750 million bonuses, Ocho, to do off-season conditioning. They give them the guys that don't really care about it because we got to encourage them to work out. Me, they want to give me $50 a day. Nah, I'm good. I don't work my last $50 a day job, bro. I don't work that. I work my last $50 a day job when I live in Georgia. Ain't no more $50 a day job. Hey, you say you love to work out, but hey, Me too, I was the same way, Uncle. I like to look good in the summer too. Hey, okay, Joe, okay, Joe. Hey, I hit the beach, Ocho, you know, come off, I got that eight pack jumper, you hear me? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I like to stay in shape now. Yeah, I was one of them. Yeah. Yeah, man. Man, let's go on now, Ocho. How you, I mean, we got them guys, they shine with a t-shirt on. You know what I'm saying? I'm like, come on, man, we're in college, and guys, bro, you ain't got to go. How you getting clean? How you getting clean? This Joker scrubbing his ass, he got a t-shirt on. Yeah, he tripping. How you getting, he watching, bro, how you getting clean with a t-shirt on? Oh man. And then you know the lady come out and be like, damn, you know you watch the lady like, okay. Right, you know what I'm talking about? You don't want your lady to get up there in the broad daylight and pull her down. Hello. I don't wanna look at that. Come on now. I can't, hey Joe, I can't help but work out too, bro. I don't know what it is. It's therapy. If you don't work out, you're going to be 150. Say it again. You're going to be 150. Exactly. But it's therapy, though. Hey, Joe. It's therapy. Yeah, Joe, I don't understand. When I don't lift no weight, Joe, I get small. Like, I get skinny. I wish, I wish, I don't know at what point, you know, I would hit the age where when I don't work out, I actually gain weight. You know what I mean? I look at all my other homies that play, you know, don't nobody lift. Everybody a little healthy now. You know, they got little saws. They look like they play tight in the offensive line. Yeah, the Wilders, yes, yes, yes. DB look like linebackers. Linebackers look like D-linebackers. I can't, I can't, I don't know what age he's gonna hit me on, but I'm waiting. It's body types, Ocho. You probably just got that body type of high metabolism. He don't, he don't got that body type that gonna put on one. Yeah, you don't. Like, boy, I'm telling you, Ocho, if I don't do nothing for a week or two, shh, well, I ain't got no problem getting no weight now. Man, that's why I had to stay. Man, Joe six nine. I had to stay on myself, man. I can't be playing. Do you know how much weight you can put on a 6'9 frame, Ocho? Yo, you eat a lot, huh? Nah. Hell no. Man, Joe be fast. Joe be, you know, Joe in that yoga, that heated yoga. So Joe probably eat like two meals a day. Okay, okay. Yeah, not even. I eat one nice big one, like full of good proteins, greens, little carbs. You know what I mean? I eat four, five times a day. I can't. Hey, your meals be small though, aren't you? Yeah, I eat about, each meal probably about 500 to 750 calories. See, I don't know how to do all that calories though. But Unk trying to keep that, he trying to keep that girth on. He trying to- Yeah, yeah, yeah, I already know. I still, I know. I like to carry them around on too, you know what I mean? Don't y'all know? Hey, they, they- Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, I'm about 200 right now, Joe, but- No, you ain't nothing. You don't give me 200. Nah, Unk, I'm 200. You saw how big I was when I took my shirt off the other day. Hey, hey. Joe, I got a little size on me right now, Joe. They say what you look like. You look like one of them little walls, though, because of the little legs you got. Them little legs. Nah, nah. Little, but my legs. They got to look like Johnny Bravo. Nah. Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, Joe, you remember Brian Hornet on Fat Alba? Hey, hey. You got a, hey, Joe, I'm a gazelle, Joe. You know, ain't, hey, hey, you, hey, when you watch the Kentucky Derby, You ain't seen that horse with big legs. No, no, no, no. You don't see a horse with big ankles. Oh yeah. Clisdales got big ankles. Belgians have big ankles. Shires have big ankles. Those are filling horses. Yes sir. Race horses, that's why they fracture so easily because you're asking about 1,000, 1,200, 1,300 pound animal to run on ankles the size of a human and run 35, 40, 45 miles an hour. An hour, yeah. Yeah, yeah. That's me. That's me. You do not know Belgian. I'm a Greyhound. Yes. I'm a Greyhound. Hey, Joe, I'm a gazelle, Joe. Hey, I gotta stay right, Ocho. I mean, you know, I still do squats even on my knee. Squat? Yeah. Oh, I never did a squat, boy. I can tell. Oh, no, no, Joe. Ocho, you don't do no squats, man? How you keep your legs on your leg press or nothing? Nah, no, Joe. He can't pick nothing up. He can't pick Cambodia up. Cambodia probably pick him up. Joe, I didn't do no squats, Joe. I mean, there are other exercises you could do to implement to work the same areas, but putting that goddamn rack on my back? Oh, no. They got machines, Ocho. Huh? They got machines. They got a machine. They got a machine that go around your waist. Yeah, they got the belt squat. They got a pendulum squat. I'm talking about when I was playing. I'm talking about when I'm playing. They have all- I ain't do no squats either when I play. Hell no. Oh, OK, OK. OK. I'm not playing with it. Yeah, I do them now, yeah. All my work is heel work, Joe. Heel and band work, Joe. Yeah, I miss with that heel. They heel keep your legs strong, too. They heel. Man, hey, Joe, I can fly right now. Yeah. You hear me? May I tell you no lie? I ain't going to play. We had a scrimmage the other day. We had 11 v. 11 scrimmage on the field. I'm talking about soccer, obviously. I played a nine. I played a striker. So the striker would... I'm trying to think in basketball terms. it really wouldn't be the point because I don't get the ball much but it's all about you on the wing no no not the wing in the center I'm in the center like in the center that's the nine position so it's like almost like a center in basketball damn near so the wings at time they facilitate to me at time but it's all about me being able to find and create space and the point guard would be the center mid you know so either way I just played 90 minutes Joe running up and down. I had maybe one or two, three balls. Joe, I was out there flying, Joe. Oh my goodness, I was out there flying, boy. I was like, you know what? The B-58, boy, I still got it. Nigga ain't got it. I don't know. So how you gonna get, when you get mad, how you gonna carry through the threshold? Carry who? Cambodia. Oh, man, like this. Oh, man. Come on. Like this. Hey, Joe, you seen me do 225 with ease like this, like nothing. but you gotta realize no no no no no no you got dead weight like this oh that's easy I don't mean to be rude listen I don't mean to be rude Joe right listen Joe what Unk don't understand is in the past I only dated BBWs so if you want 200 or better I ain't really playing with you you know because that's what I was attracted to Unk BBWs pretty face pretty feet I mean man that's a joke That's where I'm at. And you know what I'm a go-to movie, Joe? Remember Baby Boy? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Remember how Ving Rhames had Tyrese Mom in the kitchen? Down to the floor? Pop, pop, pop. What we talking about? Hey, Joe, we like this. Hey, Joe, what we talking about? What we talking about, Joe? Not the Baby Boy. Hey, Joe. That was me. Hey, Joe, someone 220, 230. Ooh. What? If you notice, a lot of times, big women like skinny men. Yeah. Big men like skinny women. Hey. But who you telling, bro? Yeah, I know how it go, man. I know how it go. Yeah. But see, Ocho, when I said that, people, they're like, oh, man. Bro, if you look at women, look at discus throwers. Yes, sir. Look at shot putters. Look at volleyball players. How much you think those women be weighing? They don't weigh. The average woman weigh about is 5'4", weigh about 170. That is the average woman. Right. So you start getting a woman that's 5'8", 5'9", 5'11", 6 foot. How much do you think she weigh if she ain't doing something for Vogue or Victoria's Secret? How much you think she weigh? Right, right. man y'all better get out of here y'all better work up to the real world because i promise you the lady that y'all probably with she don't weigh no 130 what's it well probably one the average the average woman when you project all women right average height for a woman is five four the average weight is about 170 what yes I like that. Yes. I like that. Hey, listen, 170 look good. Y'all Google it out there and see if I'm lying. Google it. Hey, you know the funny thing is too long? Hey, Joe, five fold and 170, and if it's proportionate to and everything in the right areas. Boy, you got hell on your hands. Huh? You got hell on your hands. Boy, who you telling, boy? You got hell on your hands. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Boy. Boy, look. Hey, I told you, man. Look, I told you. Oh, I told you the one to pull. The better one to pull that pistol on your boy. Yeah. Smooth like this. Stop playing. Not a dimple, not a pimple, not a wrinkle, not a crease, not a divot, nothing. Oh man. I owe them to Abe, bro. Mm-hmm. Bounce quarters off a booty. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm. I owe them to Abe, bro. Hey, hey, hey, hey, what Google say? What Google say? I know y'all Googled it because y'all thought I was lying. What did Google say the average height, average weight the american woman is i wait i'm gonna be quiet y'all tell me yeah five what do they say i'm i'm i'm google it right we're google it right quick go to google it joe put it down ever average height and wait for american woman yeah Damn, that shit came up fast. What's that? What you got? Average height, 5'3 to 5'4. Average weight, 168 to 171. 171 pounds. Okay. Now what? Yeah, he was right. Yeah. Now, boy. You get you one that's athletic. Oh, talk to me. She weigh 150, 160, 170, 180. Lord, have mercy. Boy, you got to check. Don't forget to check the ankles now. Check the ankles. Okay. Hey, when I'm checking ankles, I love them. I can look to my left, look to my right, you see them, Mocho. I'm just saying. If that's what you're talking about, check the ankles, that must be what you're talking about. That got to be it. I just looked left or right. Yep. Look good to me. I love right there. Yeah, yeah. Hey, Ocho told me to check the ankles. I did just what my partner told me to do. Oh, shit. Hey, boy. No, but that's the thing. I don't know why these people have these ideas in their head. They see these women and they think, no, no. It's not like that. These women today, they not built like these women. You hear me? You hear me? Yeah, it's different. It's different now. What? Hey. I know exactly what you talking about. Woo! And the teachers, these teachers, man, we had teachers, man, I teach you was 70 years old when I was in third grade. Now they got teachers 24, 25. Hey. I have no teacher. I think I had one teacher, I think I had one teacher, maybe two, that was under the age of 30 when I was a kid. All the rest of them were 40, had horn-rimmed glasses, had come to school, came to class with a apron on. Like, what is that? You see some of these teachers now, boy, hey. Hey, Joe, I wouldn't have missed one class, Joe. I wouldn't have missed one class with some of the teachers I've seen today, you know, on Instagrams. Yes! And Twitter sometimes. Wait, you know there's always the discourse and there's always dialogue based on- About what they're wearing? Cause they curvy now. Yeah, yeah, you're right. You talk about skipping school. Skip what, skip who? And hey, Chad, present. Every day. Hey Joe, not in the back of the class. I already know it. I already know it. I already know it. What we talking about? Hell, I think I missed, I went to class anyway. That was me, they got free meals. So I wasn't missing class. Because, hey, you must ride mid-class and stay home. You might starve that day. I ain't missing them turkey sandwiches and all that food. But, man, it's a different time and a different era than that, man. But, boy, them athletic women, I got to reset my algorithm on IG. He's popping up in the damn workout women. Damn. Tennessee beat Virginia, 79-72. Tennessee fended off Virginia to escape with the wind to advance to the Sweet 16. The Cavaliers capital on a couple of unforced errors to breathe. I'm John Green. For us, soccer, football, is a story we've shared for over 30 years, since Daniel was the star player on our high school soccer team. Very debatable. And I was their most loyal and sometimes only fan. I love this game. I love its history, its hope, its heartbreak, and above all, its beauty. Together, we'll find out why, of all the unimportant things, football, soccer is the most important. Listen to The Away End with Daniel Alarcon and John Green on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Daniel Jeremiah. And I'm Greg Rosenthal. And this is 40s and Free Agents. The games may be over, but the NFL never stops. This is my favorite part of the calendar. Yeah, mine too, Greg. Free agency, the combine, the NFL draft, pro days, trades. This This is where teams reshape their future. This is where Daniel Jeremiah makes his money. On 40s and free agents, we break down every move that actually matters. From my draft evaluations, mock drafts, and team fits. To my top 101 free agents and how real rosters are built, cap space, contracts, and all the tough decisions included. You got quarterbacks on the move. We got teams rebuilding. It's hope season. Absolutely, it's hope season. We'll tell you what's real, what's noise, and what it means for your favorite team. Smart analysis, real conversations every week. I don't know about the smart, but definitely analysis. Listen to 40s and Free Agents on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Wilmer Valderrama. And this is Freddy Rodriguez. Welcome back to Dos Amigos. Dos Amigos Season 2, baby! This time, we're going even deeper into our careers, our lives, our art, and everything in between. Each episode emanates from our very own speakeasy, where we swap stories about the moments that really shaped us on and off camera. What do we invest in right now? What is the immediate advice you give people right now? Is to value time, to be cognizant of time and how important time is. Because once the time is up it up and then that it And the relationships collaborations and even the failures that pushed us to grow And the common denominator is that we have the same people with us since like 30 40 years ago right Like, we have a lot of the same homies that stuck around. What's the vibe of that when it's like your star player is like, well, I want to leave and then actually now I'm going to stay. We talk tanking. I mean, honestly, like, I might get in trouble for this answer, but I think it's, like, definitely happening in the WBA. And, yeah, we talk about our mistakes, too. They pulled me to the side and was like, hey, man, we got a call last night, man. You can't be rolling around the city like this the night before games, you know, doing this, doing whatever. And, of course, family stories. And I'll be like, mommy, why did you miss that? Mommy, do you play basketball? Check out Game Recognized Game with Studian Miles on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. We take the league with about two minutes left, but clutch free throws and shooting allow the volunteers to hold on. Virginia freshman DeRitter did everything he could, scoring a game-high 22 points. He's the first Cavalier player with at least 20 points and five rebounds in an NCAA tournament game since DeAndre Hunter in 2019 championship. Tennessee's sweet 16 opponent, Iowa State. Woo-wee. That's gonna be a good game. Who got Iowa State advancing? You do? I do. Me too. I'll probably pick Tennessee here. I sure hope you did. You did, Joe. You did. Nah, I mean, You definitely did. Who did Iowa State just play? They just beat somebody. They beat the brakes off somebody. Oh, Texas Tech. Was it Texas? Yeah, no, no, Alabama just played Texas Tech. Kentucky. Kentucky, they beat Kentucky. They beat Kentucky. No, I know I had Iowa State beating them. Iowa State had two seed. But you like what you call them, you like SEC? Yeah, I know, but I didn't pick with my heart on that one. Damn. Man, they killed Kentucky, man. They blew them out. Yeah, beat them by 19. I was surprised Virginia. I mean, Tennessee did an outstanding job. They shot 39% from the field, 34% from the three-point line, 55%. First of all, when you only get to the free throw line 11 times, Joe, you got to be down there 90 to 100%. Because the other team got to the free throw line 25 times and they made 19 of them. So they already got a plus 13 just at the line. Damn. Yeah, I don't know. Tennessee good, though. Okay, Ocho. They ain't no slouches. No. I know they, I mean. 24 to 11. They got some guys who can play, man. They got some guys who can play. Yeah. Virginia just had an off night. Low scoring, 72 points. The good teams, bro, they up in the 80, The high 80s. You got to. But, you know, Virginia run that. In Bennett, they don't get up and down like that. No. They're not trying to get up and down, and they don't want you to get up and down. Yeah, Tennessee. Tennessee look good, though. They look good. They have a lot of guys play well. I don't need them to look good against Iowa State. Iowa State look good, boy. Yeah, they did. Yeah, they absolutely look good. So, hopefully they can keep that going. That'd be real nice. I sure appreciate that. There you go. Here you go. One, two, three, four. I mean, Tennessee had five guys with those figures. Yeah. Tennessee getting it done, man. They representing the SEC. Yeah. Because you got what? Y'all ain't got that many that's still in there, though. Y'all got Tennessee, and y'all got Arkansas. Who else y'all got? I think that's it, Joe. Alabama, yeah. So y'all got three, because Vandy's gone, Kentucky's gone. Yeah. That's all right. We got the winning team, too. Yeah. Okay. Iowa State beat Kentucky 82-63. After a rough start to start the game, Iowa finally got shots falling in the second half. Kentucky was turning the ball over. The Wildcats committed 20 turnovers. Their most in an NCAA tournament game since 1993. And even though Cyclones didn't have senior forward Joshua Jefferson because of a sprained ankle, I mean, Lipsy, 26 points. Milan Milozovic, 20 points, picked up the slack to push them back to the Sweet 16. Iowa State Sweet 16 opponent, the Balls. Man, okay, I like Fred Hoiberg. I like they coach. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He, uh... Nah, Fred Hoiberg, he's not there. He ain't at Iowa State? No, I think he at Nebraska. Isn't Hoiberg at Nebraska? Hold on, man. He used to be at... He's at Nebraska, right? Yeah, he's at Nebraska. He used to be at Iowa State, Joe. Who coached Iowa State? I guess because I was just... I ain't got no sound on. I know I had just watched him doing an interview. I thought that was from Iowa State. Hey, Joe, I remember I went to visit my daughter right before track scene started at University of Kentucky. I got to meet some of the players at University of Kentucky. And there's one that they said who was a lottery pick, right? but he tore his ACL. I'm not sure if he's healthy or not. I can't remember his name, but he was supposed to be a lottery pick, and he played at Arizona State. I think it was uniform. Oh, yeah, yeah, big dude. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about? Yeah, I know what you're talking about. I can't remember his last name, and I'm not sure if he's all the way healthy yet and if he played in a tournament, but they said he was that boy, so I was looking forward to watching him play, but I'm not sure if he's back. Hey, listen. is uh iowa state okay hey listen this ain't uh this ain't good for kentucky okay oh so they probably got the highest paid nil in all the college basketball you think they do they spent the most money i think i think like 22 million or something yep whoa i'm saying amongst they players i think i think they got a couple guys making some good money that's what i'm saying and to lose 20. Kentucky reported the guy that you talked about, Ocho, $2 million to transfer. He scored 20 points all season. So he'd been hurt all season, huh? Yep. They say, hey Joe, he said he was a lottery pick when I went to visit. I had a chance to meet him real tall, dude. I had to go watch his highlights at Arizona State. I was like, oh my goodness. He got some big hair or something. Yeah, like LeBras. Yeah, nah, I seen him play Ocho. He a dog down there. But I ain't know he tore his ACL, though. Yeah, he was recovering from something. The thing was that that's why they got, you know, Cal ended up leaving because the expectation, that's Kentucky. That's the blue blood. Right. There are certain teams that you just have with expectations. Kentucky and Duke and North Carolina, they have expectations. And it's kind of like Alabama. Alabama is running into, you know, the standard is so high. Yeah. Bro, you can't keep losing in the first round and before you get to the sweet season. Bro, you can't lose like that. No, they don't want to see that. No, and you getting the players that you're getting? Right. Think about it. Think about all the – and I'm not saying that it's easy, but when you get five-star after five-star, you loaded on your 12-man roster, seven, eight of them five-stars, and they going number one. You got five players going in the first round. you got Devin Booker and guys like that coming off your bench and Jamal Murray bro I'm sorry the fans are not gonna be patient because they die hard in Kentucky and they travel they travel they travel yes that's not fair we talk about that all the time too Joe when we talk about you know the product that's on the court is really not a reflection of the goddamn coach I can only do so much with the product I got on the court if we plan team He recruited them. He recruited them, that's what's on the court. And fair, that's where you go ride the merry-go-round. You can get canned apples. Yeah, you can bob for apples. Right, right, right. And you can see clowns. Nah, I don't know nothing about no fair. You also judge pigs there. I just saw somebody sold a cow for a million dollars. Somebody sold a pig for $500. I saw that, you saw that. I saw the pig on Twitter. Yeah. So, them boosters and alumni that gave 20 plus million dollars, they ain't trying to hear about this same man. No, sir. Hey, Kentucky used to be premier. Like when I was coming up, when Rick Pitino was in Kentucky, Uncle Ocho, that man was winning championships, SEC championships, like, yeah. You go from Rick Pitino to Tubby. Rick won and then Tubby turned around and won. Because I think Rick won in 96 and I think Tubby won in 98. Because they were very close. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And look at the players that they were having coming through there, man. Your Antoine Walkers, your Jamal Mashburns. Big, big Anderson, your Ron Mercer's. Tony Delks, they had a man, look. They kept a whip. And then you got Shea, you got Jamal Murray, you got Book, you got Cat, you got AD. Look, and we ain't got but one championship out of all of that. John Wall, Boogie Cousins. And we got one Ocho out of all of that. Hey, look, that's how hard it is to win, though, in college, man. It ain't easy. Just because you put all this talent together do not necessarily mean that it's going to lead to a championship. It's going to take great coaching with that great talent, and you're going to have to mesh it together and make it work. You know what I mean? Like, a lot of these coaches, Ocho, they ain't really coaching like that. You know what I mean? but you got some great coaches out here who know how to coach great talent. A lot of times, if you go back and study it, I think AD, AD won the freshman led. I think maybe Duke. But for the most part, it's upperclassmen. It's juniors, seniors, graduates. Guys that's played together. I mean, like Joe said, them guys coming in for one year, You already know what they're here for. They want it done. Starting January 1st, I ain't going to no class, though. I'm done. And you think that makes it difficult to win also, Unk, when there's no continuity and some of the best players, they come in one year and they're leaving? And not only do it make it tough on your continuity, but they don't necessarily always turn out to be great pros because you hadn't learned anything. You came from high school. You been in college for six months, bro. You played the season. Hopefully you got some great toolage from coaches or whatever. But once you go to the pros, it's totally different. And you get there and don't really know nothing and think it's about you, you, you, and you don't know how to sacrifice and compromise your game to be able to fit in for the team, well, you get lost real quick. I mean, it's going to be unbelievable if Duke win the national championship. Because think about it. In the last six years, they've had three number one overall picks. Zion, Paulo Banqueiro Cooper Flagg they had RJ Barrett they had Cam Reddish they got Conkineple they had Josh Johnson look at all the first round I ain't talking about no bottom to 25 to 30 they got high draft picks yeah man that ain't easy bro it ain't easy but when the coach is making the kind of money they making and when they putting that kind of money, when the boosters and alumni putting that kind of money in there, man, we don't, hey, it's like the NFL. When they put, hey, general manager got to go, head coach got to go. Bro, you see our salary cap? We're at the top of the salary cap. You say this is what we need. We done spent $300 million in free, a billion dollars in free agency, in contracts. And we still at the bottom of the division? Nah, you got to go, bro. You got to get up out of here. That's how it go. Yeah, for sure. UConn. Number two UConn, the Huskies, beat the Bruins 73-57. The wheels started to fall off at UCLA with a little more than five minutes remaining as UConn used a 9-0 run to turn a four-point lead into a 13-point cushion. The Huskies out-rebounded them 36-24, outscored the Bruins in the paint 30-20. UConn's sweet 16 opponent, the Spartans of Michigan State. Michigan State. Both two guys that coach you, they love to play defense. Yeah. Dom Izzo, Dan Vernon. You pride yourself on getting up into you and playing defense. There's going to be a game now, boy. Only thing I don't like. Yeah, sure. You caught guard playing like that. At Michigan State, they guard play is superb. With little fears at the point guard. For Michigan State. But, uh. Yeah. Man, Caravan had it going today, though. I know. That's what I'm saying. They got some wings. They got some shooters now. But, man, this is just hard. You look at their guard play. Like, you get two points out of your two starting guards, it's hard to win an NCAA tournament like that, man. It is. It is. It was their front court. Man, I'm talking about big time. They got 27, 10, 17, and then Ross came off the bench and gave you 11. Yeah. but you need you're going to need contribution from a lot of these guys and different games it's going to pose different challenges so you know you'll have different guys stepping up in different games so yeah I like UConn they play the right way play hard tough and they got a winning pedigree hey that young bull caravan going to have to put them boys on his back who they got who they got next He's a... They play Michigan State. Michigan State. He gonna need some help, Ojo. Yeah, you do. I mean, he had 27 tonight, but shoot, man. Reed ain't give him nothing. Ball ain't give him nothing. Oh, no. No, Reed had 10. But shoot, Ball and Smith, I mean, shoot. Ball ain't had no points. Smith had two. That's what I'm saying. Your guard played. One for seven and 0 for five for three. No free throw attempts. He gotta be a little bit more aggressive, too, right? yeah, search yourself in the game fast, set the tone early you set that tone that's the hard part though, Joe if your shot ain't falling early then you got damn hesitant especially in the game like this man, you play 32 minutes, you gotta get up more than two shots I'm just saying, bro this is, we're gonna go home if you lose that game and you go home with them little two points you're gonna be mad as hell at yourself yeah Damn, I should have been at that. Man, I remember I played in the NCAA tournament. What'd you do, man? I had two points. No, I had no points. I had two points on two shots, and the other guy had zero points on five shots. Man, listen. But they put Ross in. Ross played 22 minutes, so, you know, I guess Coach Hurley looked early on and could see that he didn't have it going, so he put Ross in. And he fouled out. so yeah UConn gonna be there bro they keep some good talent over there yeah but they normally would be led by guards I know that's why I'm surprised that's why I tell you you remember Shabazz Napier and they had a what's the name Kimber Ben Gordon Rip Hamilton you know they normally UConn Ray they ain't no way to keep some guards man yeah they do but boy they got one on their hand now against Michigan State good boy I'm Daniel Alarcon and this is my friend who's much more famous than I am I wouldn't go that far but I'm John Green co-host of the podcast The Away End with my old friend Daniel on our podcast The Away End we'll share with you the magic of international football all leading up to the 2026 World Cup Together, we'll find out why, of all the unimportant things, football, soccer is the most important.
