Summary

Bill O'Reilly analyzes the political fallout from President Trump's State of the Union address, focusing on Democratic divisions over immigration policy, the women's hockey team's absence from the event, Mexico's cartel violence crisis, and Trump's effective messaging strategy against the opposition.

Insights
  • Trump's State of the Union strategically positioned Democrats as worse than Republicans on key issues (taxes, immigration, healthcare) rather than promoting GOP policies, setting the narrative for the next 18 months of midterm campaigning.
  • The Democratic Party lacks effective leadership, with radical members like Omar and Tlaib damaging party credibility among independent voters through confrontational behavior.
  • Cultural divisions between men's and women's sports teams reflect deeper national polarization on patriotism and nationalism that may be permanent structural features of American politics.
  • Mexico's cartel violence (60,000 murders/disappearances in 2024) poses direct threats to 20 million annual American tourists, yet mainstream media coverage remains inadequate.
  • Trump's near-flawless two-hour speech delivery demonstrates disciplined messaging discipline, while CNN's post-speech fact-checking and Epstein pivot reveals partisan media strategy.

You're listening to the No Spin News, Talking Points Edition. Right before we started to tape this in the late afternoon, it was announced that the U.S. women's hockey team, one to gold, is not going to appear at the State of the Union. They were invited by President Trump. members of the men's team will appear. Not all of them, because there's a whole kind of logistical, because the NHL starts midweek back up. But this is an interesting story, because there's a huge culture difference between women's sports and men's sports in America. And that's the subject of this evening's Talking Points memo. It goes beyond that, of course. We are a divided nation, deeply divided. And the political hatred is growing. All right. And it's spurred by President Trump's presence, no matter what he does. All right. It's spurred by immigration. I saw all of that. And the third is the economy. So some people are having trouble keeping up. OK, so when you get all those elements swirling around, then you have a divided country, which is what we have. So you get two gold medal winners, the men's hockey team and the women's hockey team. The men's team, very respectful and patriotic. The women's team, not so much. Sorry, ladies. It's not as bad as a women's soccer team, which was anti-American in my opinion. But, you know, it's a different culture. OK, let's run it down for you with some facts to back it up. It's always nice, right? So after the USA defeated Canada on Sunday, the Hughes brothers, these guys are amazing, one of whom won the game with a goal in overtime, said this. Go. This is all about our country right now. I love the USA. I love my teammates. It's unbelievable. The USA Hockey Brotherhood is so strong. And we have so much support from next players. And I'm so proud to be American today. I love the U.S. It's the greatest country in the world. So happy to represent it here with these guys. team. That's really special. All right. So that's Jack and Quinn Hughes. And you got it. You know, when I'm watching it, I got up early 8 a.m. to watch it. I was proud. I, you know, I just said, you guys did what you had to do. And the reason that the USA won was because of Connor Hollaback, the goalie, plays at a Winnipeg Jackets, but he's from Commerce, Michigan. He blocked 41 and 42 shots. I mean, without him, Canada would have won. Canada was getting more shots on goal and had the better of the play, but the USA would not give up. And so they deserve their win. Um, the only controversy that we can see was when Kash Patel, the director of the FBI, showed up in the locker room after the game to hoist a beer with the boys. Okay. Now, I'm not offended by this. And there was a reason that Mr. Patel was there. The FBI provided some security expertise to the Italian government during the entire Olympics. It wasn't like Patel just flew over for the game. He's the head of the bureau and the bureau was working with the Italians to make sure nothing happened and nothing did happen. It was miraculous. So if Patel wants to go in and have a good time with the boys after the game, I don't have any problem with that. But of course. Others do. Roll the tape. His spokesperson says he was in Milan on official business. Well, aren't there more officially pressing business matters to be dealt with here in the States that maybe he could have done a better job than showing up in Milan on a private job? He showed up at the, for American athlete security, he showed up at the end of the Olympics. And so I think generally in law enforcement, when there's an issue, you show up at the beginning so that you can prepare security. He was chugging beer. You're not playing. You're not, you know, and he's behaving like a member of Animal House. Please. You know, number one, I don't think Ms. Goldberg even knew that the FBI was assisting the Italian government. And then the other ones, you show up, but not at the I don't know why Disney. I just don't know why, you know, but it's never going to change over there. So on the Internet, which we ignore because they're haters, they're serious haters. These are seriously damaged people. I have to point out the Huffington Post is the worst. This hate hates the country. hates the United States. In Canada, there was mild criticism. Go. Look, I'll just say, number one, I certainly echo everyone's sentiment feeling today and how this stinks. It's a tough one. Canada deserved to win this game. They outplayed the U.S. So what? You know, I mean, come on, accept it gracefully. All right. I wrote a message of the day. It's on Bill O'Reilly dot com. It's about nationalism. And there is a good part of nationalism and a bad part. And the final point I want to make before we get to our guest, Stephen A. Smith, is that you are looking at a situation that is far more important than a sport. So our country, I don't know if it's ever going to come together again I don not in my lifetime I don think it will I think there a vision is there to stay between the red states and the blue states and the women team and the men team And under a constitution, perfectly, you know, there's no demand that we're in lockstep. But it makes me sad. It does. You're listening to a special edition of the No Spin News. Mexico now in a war with a violent drug and people smuggling cartels. We told you this was going to happen. Let's see. Let's see. I'm trying to do the math here. About five years ago, I spoke with President Trump about this and said, look, the only way to control these cartels for the USA to get involved and probably directly with military action. That did not happen over the weekend when this cartel guy was taken into custody by the Mexican authorities. But the U.S. intel pinpointed him. And Claudia Sheinbaum, the president of Mexico, has to take action or Trump will. So that sets the tone. Nevertheless, about 20 million Americans visit Mexico every year. Why? I understand family. But a lot of people go there for fun. I got a slew of letters this morning. Should I go? My daughter's having a wedding, all of this stuff. And I'm going, I have been telling you for years, stay out of Mexico. It's violent and out of control and corrupt. In fact, here's what I said. March 22nd, 2023, three years ago, rolling, the State Department issues a warning about what's going on in Mexico. They say that unlawful or arbitrary killings by police, military and other government officials are happening in Mexico. That means the authorities are killing people. OK, forced disappearance by government agents. That means authorities are kidnapping people in Mexico. Harsh and life threatening prison condition. OK, and today the State Department's warning again. And American tourists in Puerto Vallada, been there a couple of times. Nice place, but there are nicer places. They can't get out of there. Because the cartels are killing people in response to their leader being captured and killed. So he's dead. And he should be dead. I mean, these are evil, evil people. We write about them in Confronting Evil. It don't get worse than these people. All right, now let's run it down. So. In 2024, we don't have 25 stats yet. That's 60,000. People murdered or disappeared in Mexico, 60,000. It's the most violent country in the hemisphere by far. And if you get in trouble down there, nobody is going to help you. No one. In fact, they'll shake you down. it. All right. As I said, 20 million Americans visit Mexico every year. And that's the largest portion of anybody in the world, as you would expect. The safest places are the all-inclusive resorts that pick you up at the airports, they can't con, whisk you to the property, and then you don't have to go out to eat. I was in Cabo San Lucas a few years ago, And I went down there to check it out because Cabo is a very, very attractive resort for West Coast people in particular. Army was everywhere. And that's what will happen now. The army has to go to these resort areas. So it's not like automatically when you fly in there, you're going to be in danger. But in general, it is not a safe country. I hope we're all getting that. Now, there's going to be more violence because President Trump has told Scheinbaum, you got to wipe these cartels out. They're killing hundreds of thousands of Americans by smuggling heroin, fentanyl, cocaine into the USA. You got to take care of it. Scheinbaum doesn't want to do this. OK, just to do it. Or America will do it because we have the technology to get these people. And the CIA all over Mexico, just like there was in Venezuela. So I when I got all those letters this morning, I just went. And these are people who watch me. I mean, I know the bubble people have no idea what's going on anywhere, but they don't watch. the no spin news. They don't go to BillOReilly.com. They don't know. They don't know anything. But people watch me. How many times do I have to tell you, you are in danger if you go there? It's out of your control. No one will help you. And here's a kicker on this memo. Hawaii is a thousand times better than Mexico. And so is many places in the Caribbean. Now, the difference is Mexico is cheaper. It's cheaper to go to the all-inclusives there than it is in Hawaii or the Caribbean. Okay. You want to save a few bucks? Up to you. But there are travel advisories now for Americans and everybody else, because these Carpital members have gun you right down. They couldn't care less. You're listening to a special edition of the No Spin News. So advantage GOP because the momentum has shifted at least temporarily into President Trump's zone. Now, the speech was one hour, 48 minutes, the longest state of the union ever. Only William Henry Harrison gave a longer speech. It wasn't called the State of the Union. It was an inauguration speech. And then he died after he gave it because he caught pneumonia So he was outside It was freezing and just William Henry wouldn stop You can read about that in Confronting the Presidents But anyway longest State of the Union. And it wasn't boring. I thought it would be. It wasn't because what the Trump speechwriters did was kind of lay traps for the opposition. And they spent much of the time denigrating Democrats rather than propping up Republicans, but it worked. Let us walk through it. So about an hour and 20 minutes was spent on domestic policy. All right. And that's the key because people are feeling squeezed financially. So the president came out and said, and they all do this. Every president does it. I'm going to do this. I'm going to do that. I'm going to do this. I'm going to do that. Okay. Standard issue. The last 30 minutes was spent on a little foreign policy, but other things. But about 15 minutes in, the tone of the speech changed from here's what Republicans are going to do to here's what Democrats have done. Very, very important for you to understand this. OK, so it was you may not like all of the Republican policies, but these people, the Democrats, are way worse. That will be the theme for the next 18 months to limit terms come. OK, so the president, as he always does, wraps himself in the flag. Patriotism, because patriotism is very emotional. Roll the tape. but now we're winning too much and i say no no no you're going to win again you're going to win big you're going to win bigger than ever and to prove that point to prove that point here with us tonight is a group of winners who just made the entire nation proud the men's gold medal olympic hockey team come on in OK, so it was predictable that that would happen. And that is a feel good moment. Here's the most frustrating thing. I couldn't see how the Democrats were reacting to that because the camera was not on that crew. And I expected some of the reporters in the room would write about how the Democrats reacted to the hockey team coming in to the rapturous applause on the part of the president's supporters. Nothing. We couldn't find anything. We don't know. I'm embarrassed for my profession. We don't know how the Democrats reacted to having the American hockey team go in there. It's maddening. And I was watching it last night. I said, where is the react shot on the Democrats? Where is it? It never came. It's stunning because that is important. OK. All right. So the president, he. Basically, was. Telling the American people and some of them obviously don't believe it, that this is the golden age of America. We're in it. up to you, up to you. Now, there are people who hate Trump. They'll never believe anything he says. People who love him will believe everything he says. But the big middle, up to you. Do you think it's the golden age? I think we have momentum in this country. I do. Golden age, Not yet. OK, so the key moment in the whole thing. And this is a well laid plan. And the Democrats should have anticipated something like this was going to happen. Roll it. One of the great things about the state of the union is how it gives Americans the chance to see clearly what their representatives really believe. So tonight, I'm inviting every legislature to join with my administration in reaffirming a fundamental principle. If you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support. The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens. Democrats didn't stand. Okay? If I were a Democrat, I would have stood. Because under the Constitution, the first duty is to protect Americans. Democrats didn't stand. Trump knew they weren't going to stand. And he scolded them. Roll the tape. Isn't that a shame? You should be ashamed of yourself not standing up. You should be ashamed of yourself. That is why I'm also asking you to end deadly sanctuary cities that protect the criminals. All right. And then you have Congresswoman Omar, Minnesota, and Tlaib of Michigan screaming at Trump, screaming that he's killing Americans on and on. This is not a good look for the Democratic Party. These radical members of the party are damaging the Democrats among independent voters. Radicalism is not what the majority of Americans want. And these are radical. These are people who want to just blow up everything. And to see them scream at the president doesn't help the Democratic Party. And that's becoming more and more common. Now there is no leader There no Democratic leader So Schumer is the top guy in the Senate Jeffries is the minority guy in the House. They're ciphers. They get run over. In fact, Cortez is going to challenge Schumer, who I don't think will run again. She'll beat him in New York. She'll beat Chuck. OK, because it's New York. So there's no leadership within a Democratic Party. None. Trump knows that. The last effective Democratic leader was Nancy Pelosi. And here's what Trump said about her. Go. As we ensure that all Americans can profit from a rising stock market, let's also ensure that members of Congress cannot corruptly profit from using insider information. They stood up for that. I can't believe it. I can't believe it. Did Nancy Pelosi stand up if she's here? Doubt it. Pass the Stop Insider Trading Act without delay. So Nancy Pelosi worth about 300 million. OK. And she was there. But of course, once again, a camera didn't couldn't find her. Boy, that was poorly shot. Whoever was in charge of that. Awful. Because that camera should write on Pelosi on that one. OK, so then. Trump knows he has momentum. And here's an aside. I'm a professional broadcaster, as you know. Donald Trump spoke for nearly two hours. He did not stumble once. That's almost impossible for a human being to do. He rode right through that whole thing. Now, yeah, he rehearsed it, but two hours? Everybody stumbles, not him. Then he goes after the Democrats' signature achievement, Obamacare. Go. I'm also confronting one of the biggest ripoffs of our times, the crushing costs of healthcare caused by you. Since the passage of the Unaffordable Care Act, sometimes referred to as Obamacare, big insurance companies, has gotten rich. That's why I introduced the great health care plan. I want to stop all payments to big insurance companies and instead give that money directly to the people so they can buy their own health care, which will be better health care at a much lower cost. All right. So you can see he's dismantling the opposition step by step. And it was effective. The president does exaggerate. knows that. CNN spent all his time fact checking him. Some of the fact check was accurate. Some of them wasn't. You can manipulate crime stats, economic stats all day long. It's easy to do. I'll just give you one example. So the president says in the last three months of 2025, inflation was one seven, 1.7 percent. It was 2.4. But he's got his own numbers and he can try it out something. I don't pay attention to that anymore. I know what inflation is. It's running a little over 2%. This isn't bad, but not bad. Okay. Now, in the end, it got down to the point where the Democrats didn't know what to do. And you could see that when they walked out of the chamber, that they were in disarray. So now here's what you can expect. Epstein. You think it was bad before? Now it's every time you turn around, it's the Democrats, Epstein, Trump, even though there's not a shred of evidence, not a shred. Okay. You're going to hear it and hear it and hear it. And CNN kicked it off last night right after the speech. Go. He didn't make any mention of Jeffrey Epstein during that speech, despite the fact that there were some survivors of Jeffrey Epstein's in the chamber. Many were. What did you make of that moment? Well, it was, again, I don't even know if that was state of the nation speech. I don't know what she's talking about. Collins, he didn't make any image. Why would he make any mention of Epstein? Why? I mean, she's just, I used to have respect for her. No longer. He's a hack. And CNN, I don't know what the deuce they're doing over there. They go down and down and down and down and down. They don't care. They don't care. No semblance of fairness whatsoever on the network. None. OK, finally, the midterm election is, as I said, a much more contained than a presidential election. But what Trump did last night was he put down a marker. No matter how you look at Republicans, and he's talking to independent voters now, they're worse. So we gave you a tax cut. They want to raise taxes. We're protecting Americans from illegal alien criminals. They don't want to do that. On and on and on, one after the other after the other. That will be the theme for the next eight months. listening. Remember to subscribe to the Bill O'Reilly podcast feed and consider becoming a premium or concierge member at BillOReilly.com.
