Summary

The Dinner with the Healers family rewatches the Bluey episode 'Blue Mountains,' a bottle episode featuring imaginative hand puppet storytelling where characters learn to balance fun with responsibility. The episode explores themes of risk-taking, sibling care, and stranger danger through a whimsical adventure across Bandit's body.

Insights
  • Balance between responsibility and enjoyment is essential—being too cautious prevents growth, but abandoning caution entirely leads to danger
  • Parental/caregiver roles require maintaining protective instincts even while allowing children to explore and have fun
  • Imaginative play using everyday objects (hands, body parts) creates meaningful bonding and learning opportunities for families
  • Teaching children to recognize warning signs (shifty behavior, too-good-to-be-true promises) is critical for safety awareness

We just got done re-watching Blue Mountains. Beyond the Blue Mountains. Yay the Blue Mountains. Stella, could you tell us what was going on at the beginning of this episode? Blueie, Bingo, Chilly and Bandit were all on a picnic. And Bandit was laying down on the ground. And Chilly decided to start telling a story about a big sister, a little sister and a fairy. Who were cold during winter and they needed to find the softest, warmest beds. Which were over the Blue Mountains, which was Bandit. And they were telling the story by using their hands as puppets. Right, so let's figure out who was who. Chilly was the big sister and Blueie was the little sister and Bingo was the fairy. Yeah, they had little googly eyes stuck to their hands and little mouths drawn on there. And Bingo had some pretty epic fairy wings hooked to her puppet. Amanda, there's something up with the big sister. What did they have to say about her? They said that the big sister never likes to have fun. She's always kind of uptight and worries about things and she just doesn't seem to like to have fun. Yeah, I guess being responsible isn't cool. Tell me about it. Yeah, so they say that she is no fun and they do. They've got to make it over the Blue Mountains to find the warmest, softest beds ever. And of course, the big sisters immediately like, nah, we're not doing that. Yeah, she didn't seem like she was very much into traveling over the Blue Mountain to find the warmest, softest beds. What was the very first thing they encounter? They see what we realize is Bandit's tail and they didn't know what it was, but the little sister seemed to think that it was safe and okay to run up to. So she takes off and big sister is very, very worried that she shouldn't go near whatever this thing was. Henry, as they're going on their way, what is the next obstacle they come up to? They run to Bandit's leg and they start running up it and big sister says that it's way too steep. And she has this worried look on her face the whole time after going up. Oh big sister, don't be a stick in the mud. And then they make it to the top. Everybody's perspective changes once they're up there. What do they notice, Henry? They see lots and lots of hills and mountains and it looks super cool. Yeah, the view is amazing and the perspective shift makes big sister kind of chill out a little bit, doesn't it? Yeah, it does. What do they do? They slide down Bandit's leg and while big sister's sliding down, her face goes from a frowny face to a smiley face. Yeah, her attitude turns right around and now she's having fun. Nothing like a little danger to light up a good time, am I right? I was happy to see a smile on her face finally. Yeah, she was feeling brave and she was probably right if they were real creatures and it was a hill that steep, it probably was dangerous. I thought it was cute how Chilly just erases the mouth that she has on her puffet and draws a new one on while they're in the midst of things and she's having this good time. She was pretty quick to do that. They make it down to the bottom. Stella, what do they discover? They find a big flat area that is soft and squishy and they are jumping around bouncing on it. It's a soft and squishy. It is soft and squishy, isn't it little sister? It's like we're bouncing on a massive pie-clit. And what is a pie-clit? It's a pancake, like a small thin pancake. Oh, okay. Yeah. Alright, cool. Yeah, poor Bandit. He's getting the business from them about being soft and squishy around the middle like a pie-clit. Well Bandit, I can sympathize. And maybe it's from having too many pancakes that I can sympathize. Stella, something's in their way though. What is it? A big wall falls down and blocks off their path, but it's not really a wall, it's just Bandit's arms. But to the characters, it's a wall. Yeah, it is. What do they need to do to get them to move? They need to scratch around and find the right spot that will make the wall go away. And I think all of us can relate to that. They did and he raised up his arms because he was so busy laughing. And they managed to scoop past there and they're safe. The walls fell down behind him though. It kind of made me think of maybe Indiana Jones or something. Yeah, yeah. They just barely escaped. Yes, I agree. Big sister is having a lot of fun now. I'm having so much fun little sister. Maybe I do just need to relax and enjoy myself more. I wonder why I ever stopped in the first place. Yeah, she is finally unwinding and enjoying herself. Somebody jumps out and surprises them Amanda, who is it? It was a kindly fox and right away little sister just wasn't very sure about him. Like she wasn't sure that they could trust him. But big sister was just fine with him. The kindly fox said that he could show them where the warmest and softest beds were. They would just have to come along with him. You could tell right away that fox was up to no good just by his voice. Oh no, he seemed totally trustworthy. Yeah, not being shifty at all. No, definitely not. And little sister says that she thinks he's a cheeky fox. Yes. And right after she says that, Henry, something happens to him. What is it? His eye falls off and he picks it back up and puts it back on like nothing ever happened. There was something about that that really I thought was pretty funny. It was very funny. Big sister says, okay, let's go. And the fox is humming and being shifty. I thought. Henry, what did you think about the fox? I don't think he's very trustworthy. He doesn't seem like it. Definitely not. And little sister doesn't think so either. I've got my eye on you, Mr. Fox. That sister of yours is hard work, isn't she? She sure is. I thought it was funny that big sister agreed that yes, little sister, i.e. Bluey, can be hard work sometimes. Yes. Stella, what is the next thing they encounter? They come across a cave and they think that the cave is very, very smelly. And what is it really? Bandit's mouth. Oh, poor bandit. They're always giving him the business. Does that make you feel bad for him? I guess, yeah. Interesting. So when you guys do that to me, do you feel bad for me at all? Sure, yeah. I don't do that to you. I did feel bad for bandit when they said that. It's funny because he keeps his mouth wide open and now the fox suddenly talks funny. And what did he say about his voice, Stella? He says that he just sometimes talks like that. Yeah, just, you know, no biggs. Don't worry about it. He has to bounce though, Amanda. What is he going to get? Yes, Mr. Fox decides that he needs to leave now because he has to go get some hand cream all of a sudden. And so he just walks off casually like there's nothing going on. Big sister takes off running for the cave and everybody's concerned. Amanda, what happens? As soon as she enters the cave, the cave closes on her and everybody is panicked. She's yelling and yelling to help get her out. Let me out! It was a trick! What are you going to do? You are a cheeky fox. That's it. No one trapped my big sister. I don't think anybody was surprised to find out that the fox was indeed a cheeky fox. Now he's got Chili's hand, which has a googly eye stuck to it in his mouth. And he's licking her hand and being gross and she's laughing and I thought, yuck. I don't think I would do well with that if I was either one of them. No. I wouldn't want to be bandit or chili in that scenario. What do you think, Henry? I thought that that was pretty disgusting. Yeah. Well, they're struggling and trying to get her free. How does it work out, Henry? Little sister and the fairy attack the cheeky fox and they throw him into bandits' nose. And then he spits out Big Sister and sends the cheeky fox flying into the air. Yeah. The cheeky fox's legs were bandits' fingers and they ended up in both barrels of his nostrils, right? Yes. And because he couldn't breathe with those in the way, he ended up having to cough him out of his mouth and now she's free. Little sister is relieved. Ew, I almost swiped me. Big sister! Oh, I'm so glad you'll stay. I promise I'll never say a word ever again. Stella, while Big Sister's thinking about what happened, what does she say about the situation? She says that she was so busy trying to have fun that she forgot her main job, which is to take care of her little sister. Aw, that's sweet. I'm glad she was having fun though. Sometimes I think chili is too uptight. Yeah, sometimes. They made it there in bandits' ears and they're talking about the warmest, softest beds. Amanda, what other amenities did they find there? Big Sister also said that there was enough wax there that they could make at least 100 candles with it. Poor Bandit. Right. Man, that guy. Here he is. He just took his family to the park and they had a nice day and now they're giving him the business again. Ugh, poor guy. Hey Bandit, it happens to all of us. Anyway, that was the episode. Henry, did we forget anything? Nope, I don't think so. Well, you know what it's time for. Did we learn anything today? Could anyone tell us what did you learn today? Sometimes you don't have to worry, but other times you do have to worry. That's what I learned today. At least that's what I think. Okay, yeah, I can see that. It's good to have fun and obviously like you should be having fun, but you still need to try to be responsible at the same time. Yeah. I think both the kids just nailed it. I agree with what they both have said. Yeah, I think they're quite wise here. They are. The one thing I would add is that you don't have to make fun of your dad to have a good time. That is true. That's the lesson. But you guys are right, really, that there's a time and place for fun, but you can't be so irresponsible that you forget to stay safe or to do the right thing and letting go of all your responsibilities in the name of fun can lead to catastrophe. For example, suddenly you're stuck in a big, gross cave that's actually a dog's mouth and that's gross. Yeah, nobody wants that. Was there any other lesson in there? I was thinking be wary of strangers who seem kind of shifty. And if they have googly eyes and one of them falls off and they pick it up and stick it back on, you should probably run just right then. Definitely. Yeah, just don't even think about it. Just run as fast and hard as you can in the opposite direction. Just keep going. That's right. Yeah. That's right. But really, you got to watch out for strangers. Yes. Promising you something that seems too good to be true or whatever. Absolutely. You got to be safe. Does anybody have any parting thoughts about the episode? There wasn't a whole lot happening in this episode like we normally see, but it was still a cute episode because we see the family all together and they're using their imaginations and playing. And so it made it very cute. Yeah, that is cute. I found the fingers up the nose part really funny. I don't even have to go back to the episode we did about this three years ago to see if that's what you thought about that then too. Because I know in my heart that that's probably something that you commented on, which I don't blame you because I think it's funny too. It was quite funny. You guys are just copying me. How dare you. Even though this really isn't one of my favorite episodes, I still like this episode and I think it's cute. Yeah, when we were in our pre-production meeting and we were looking at the schedule of episodes coming up, when I saw Blue Mountains, I'm like, because it's not one of my favorite bluey episodes by any stretch. I will say this though, when we watched it, I'm like, oh, okay, there's a lot more in here than I originally thought. Yeah. But it's a bottle episode. They're all in one spot. Nothing is happening. There's no other characters. But it does manage to be pretty cute given the confines on the situation. So good job on them for that. Yeah, I agree with that. Absolutely. Well, guys, we think bluey is awesome. And speaking of things that we think are awesome, Henry, what should we do next? The Howl Out. Okay, listen up. Everyone has to clap and go, woo, yeah, all right, that's awesome. Got it? Hooray! Hooray! We have the best fans and we are always so excited to hear from you guys. And from A Different Hope, whose favorite episode is Takeaway. That episode's a really funny one, and that was the first time we heard Bush Wee. Bush Wee, that's right. And we also heard from Ray. On Instagram, we heard from Brooks, who loves the episode Phones. That was a fun one where Grandad comes over and they're playing and all he wants to do is interact with the girls and they're like, no, you have to use the app to order. Yeah, that was a fun one. It's representing society nowadays. It does. Yeah. Especially when Grandad's like, okay, fine. I'll just call. No, you don't call. Ew, it has buttons. We got some emails. We heard from Cruz. Yeah, Hotel was a good one. I thought Bandit was so funny in that when all he once was a room and they keep showing him the craziest of things. And Bingo as the crazy pillow. A lot of fun there. It was nice to hear from you. We got a voice message from Island. Hey, Dinner with the Healers. I am so sorry about not sending you messages. I have a very busy family. I have one joke for you. Why do squirrels never braid each other's hair? Because they make a bad nuts. Anyway, oh by the way, Eric, I am also Swifty if I didn't tell you my last message. Who is this? Who are you? Island's. Anyway, I love the podcast and bye. Hi, Island. Thank you so much for sending us a message. It was great to hear your voice. That joke was really funny. Yeah, how about that? She wrote that herself. Great job. It's cool to find out we have another Swifty writing in too. So yes, yes. We heard from our friend Teddy who said that their family eats organic foods but not quite as rigidly as Indy's family. Oh, gotcha. When we were watching Markets last week. Yes. And we also heard from friend of the show Earl. It's been a while since Earl emailed us and he let us know that the episode that mentions the floor cereal is feather wand. Feather wand, yes. Thank you so much, Earl. I could not remember that episode name. Yeah, I told him you are a lifesaver. Thank goodness. I was checking out the Apple podcast website for podcasters and remember how I was saying that sometimes it works and sometimes the reviews that shows they're out of order. There are reviews on there that weren't there that show that they're older than the last time I just looked the other day. So I do not understand how this is working. However, I would like to mention that we did get some and we heard from someone whose username is HGGFFFF something something something. We heard from Lisa and we heard from Maddox who is 10. Guys, thank you so much for the five star reviews. That's awesome. And thank you everyone for all of the kind words, the messages, the comments, the voice messages.
