A suspect in custody after allegedly opening fire Saturday night outside the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington, D.C., in yet another assassination attempt on President Donald Trump's life. This one thankfully stopped by law enforcement well before Mr. Trump was in danger. Authorities arresting 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen of Torrance, California, at the Washington Hilton after he allegedly charged a security perimeter within the hotel, leading to a ballroom where President Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and many more top cabinet officials and their spouses were attending the dinner. More details on the suspect in a moment. The White House Correspondents Dinner is the annual Black Tie Gala bringing together journalists, celebrities, well, sort of, and politicians to celebrate the First Amendment and raise money for journalism scholarships and give members of the media a chance to celebrate themselves and wear a tux. This year, marking President Trump's first time attending as the sitting president, Mr. Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance entering the ballroom around 8.15 p.m. Just after 8.30 p.m., gunshots heard over the noise of the crowded room. The first moments marked by confusion. Then people seen on the live feed beginning to react, some dropping to the floor, others making a break for it. In one video taken from behind the head table on the dais, a Secret Service agent seen grabbing Vice President Vance by the shoulders and forcefully removing him from the scene. Just a few feet behind that, President Trump seen seated at the table, flanked by Secret Service. The president and the first lady among a small group then quickly ushered off the stage. Questions now being asked about the speed with which the president was moved to safety, particularly in light of the security failures in Butler, Pennsylvania back in 2024 that nearly led to his assassination. President Trump last night on 60 Minutes taking the blame for the pace of his exit. Well, what happened is it was a little bit me. I wanted to see what was happening. And I wasn't making it that easy for him. I wanted to see what was going on. And by that time, we started to realize maybe it was a bad problem. And I was surrounded by great people. and I probably made them act a little bit more slowly. I said, wait a minute, wait a minute, let me see, wait a minute. Then I started walking with them. I turned, I started walking and they said, please go down, please go down on the floor. So I went down and First Lady went down also. Several cabinet officials also in attendance, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Scott Besant and HHS Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr in addition to FBI Director Kash Patel and others President Trump last night posting security footage of the moment the suspect breached the checkpoint located on the floor above the ballroom A handful of agents seen standing near security equipment as the suspect comes charging through, breaking past them. The agents then seen drawing their weapons and swarming toward the suspect, Cole Thomas Allen. Allen reportedly armed with a shotgun, handgun, and multiple knives. President Trump posting an image of Allen, shirtless and face down on the floor, hands bound behind his back with his lower extremities covered by a foil blanket. Allen did not sustain any gunshot wounds during the incident. President Trump telling reporters, One Secret Service agent was shot at close range but was protected by a bulletproof vest and is in, quote, great shape. It is unclear if the agent was shot by Allen or by friendly fire from another law enforcement officer. A sprinting Allen making it about 60 feet past the checkpoint before being tackled by police at the top of the stairs leading down to the ballroom. Fox News host John Roberts writing on X that the shooter was still more than 100 feet away from the president at the time. The security breach, though, raising serious questions. In the wake of the event, dozens of attendees reporting the apparently lax security measures entering the property. Fox News' Bill Malusian describing in an ex-post how he entered the building after simply flashing a ticket. He writes that his name was not checked against any list. He showed no ID, he was not patted down, nor did he pass through a metal detector as he entered the building, first heading to a pre-party hosted by his network in another ballroom. It was not until he was set to enter the main ballroom, Malusian writes, that he passed through a security checkpoint and emptied his pockets for a pat-down. Quote, hypothetically, if I had hidden an explosive in my shoe or my jacket, I would have had no problem getting into one of those ballrooms. The New York Post speaking to a volunteer in the aftermath of the incident about what she saw in the moments before. He was literally from me to that building. And there was a security guy there too. I mean, I don't think anyone knew what he was doing. Describe him. What did he look like? I'm not even sure what he looks like. And what made you think he's a shooter? How do you know? I saw him put the gun together and start shooting. Oh, my God. Yes. I mean, he put it together and started and ran towards the stairs to go down to the ballroom. Who did he shoot and what direction did he shoot? What did he shoot? I don't know what he shot. It just seemed like he was shooting all over the place. President Trump, A.G. Blanche and Director Kash Patel, however, praising Secret Service late Saturday night in an impromptu press briefing from the White House. A man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service, and they acted very quickly. We are extraordinarily grateful and appreciative of the men and women of law enforcement that did their jobs tonight, including one who was injured. You saw the best resolve of American law enforcement because you, Mr. President, and inspire them 24-7, 365. You give them the resources that they need and you know, they know that you have their back. And that's why you saw brave Secret Service agents respond immediately, swiftly, subdue and take down the suspect and safeguard the lives of thousands of individuals at that hotel. President Trump later pointing to the incident as evidence of the need for a new White House ballroom, currently the subject of an ongoing legal dispute. We looked at all of the conditions that took place tonight And I will say, you know, it's not a particularly secure building. And I didn't want to say this, but this is why we have to have all of the attributes of what we're planning at the White House. It's actually a larger room and it's much more secure. It's got drone proof. It's bulletproof glass. We need the ballroom. That's why Secret Service. That's why the military are demanding it. They've wanted the ballroom for 150 years for lots of different reasons, but today's a little bit different because today we need levels of security that probably nobody's ever seen before. New information about the alleged shooter continuing to emerge in the hours after the attempted attack. Allen currently working as a part-time teacher and video game developer. according to his LinkedIn, Allen attending the California Institute of Technology from 2013 to 17, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. Allen's sister confirming to law enforcement that her brother purchased two handguns and a shotgun, which he stored at their parents' house without telling them. He reportedly belonged to a leftist group called the Wide Awakes and attended a No Kings protest in California. Authorities say Allen traveled by train from L.A. to D.C., where he checked into the Washington Hilton ahead of the gala. The New York Post reporting on the details of a manifesto Allen reportedly shared with his family about 10 minutes before the shooting In it Allen refers to himself as quote the friendly federal assassin writing that his intended targets were administration officials, with the exception, he wrote, with no explanation, of Kash Patel, whom he wrote was not a target. Allen writing, quote, I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes. CNN reporting members of Allen's family did notify law enforcement about the manifesto, though it is not yet clear if it was before or after the attack. A.G. Blanche yesterday on NBC discussing what charges Allen is likely to face. Yes, not atypically in a case like this. There will be an assault of a federal officer charge. There'll be a charge about him discharging a firearm and attempting to kill a federal officer. And then there are potentially charges beyond that that come from reviewing of the evidence. And if we understand his motivations and as we continue to gather. But initially, I expect those two charges to be filed tomorrow morning. So assault of a federal officer and then using a firearm and discharging a firearm during that assault. Allen's set to appear in court later today. We will have much more on this today on The MK Show. Coming up, a robbery suspect with a violent criminal history now accused of killing a Chicago police officer and critically wounding another after opening fire inside a hospital. And Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's husband abruptly shutting down his winery after congressional investigators begin asking questions. One police officer killed another in critical condition Saturday following a shooting at a Chicago hospital where authorities were transporting a robbery suspect with a lengthy rap sheet. Around 8 a.m. on Saturday, a male suspect yet to be publicly identified by authorities allegedly robbing a family dollar store, entering the shop, displaying a gun, then attacking a woman at an ATM and fleeing the scene with unspecified stolen items. An online local crime website called CWB Chicago reporting, quote, some of those stolen items were equipped with a GPS tracker that sent signals to Chicago's Police Centralized Intelligence Center, allowing patrol units to quickly locate a suspect. The outlet reporting officers specifically noted they believed the suspect was not carrying a firearm when he was picked up. When the suspect told officers he felt ill, they requested an ambulance for transport to Endeavor Health Swedish Hospital. The hospital releasing a statement claiming the suspect arrived on the campus around 9 a.m. where he was wanded per standard protocol and, quote, escorted by law enforcement at all times. Around 11 a.m., the suspect opening fire on the two officers who brought him in, then fleeing on foot. It is unclear how this suspect was able to obtain a weapon. Surveillance video capturing him running naked in the streets, appearing to carry a hospital gown bundled in his arms, electrodes still stuck to his chest. Just over an hour later, the still-naked suspect rearrested in a nearby neighborhood where he had taken cover inside a home. Cops recovering a firearm from the scene, a separate weapon from the firearms carried by the two cops. An investigation is ongoing, authorities identifying 38-year-old John Bartholomew as the officer fatally shot in the incident. He was a 10-year veteran of the police force. The second officer not yet identified is a 57-year-old male with 21 years on the job, he is now fighting for his life. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, a Democrat, speaking to reporters on Saturday. Today is a real difficult moment for our city It a tragedy Our officers stand in the way of harm every single day risking their own lives And along with them risking their lives they have family that expect them to come home One of our officers will not be able to return to their family. CWB Chicago reporting the suspect, whom they are not naming because formal charges have yet to be filed in this latest incident, had been a fugitive from the law for weeks. He reportedly escaped electronic monitoring relating to two pending violent felony cases. The suspect has a long criminal history stretching back to 2017, including multiple armed robberies, weapons charges, and assaults on law enforcement, according to CWB. Despite repeated arrests, the suspect released multiple times, most recently in December 2025 on electronic monitoring while facing four felony cases, including armed carjacking and armed robbery. One month later, the suspect pleading guilty to the two oldest cases, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and aggravated battery of a peace officer. The man receiving a sentence of four years and three years to be served concurrently. From CWB, quote, with credit for time spent in jail and on monitoring, plus the state's standard 50 percent sentence reduction, he was able to report to the Illinois Department of Corrections the next day and walk out before sundown. By early March, the suspect no longer complying with the terms of his release, skipping a court appearance after officials said he left home without permission and failed to keep his ankle monitor charged. Democrat Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's husband shuttering a winery he co-owned just weeks after the House Oversight Committee sent a letter requesting financial information related to that company. Former political consultant Tim Minette, co-owner of a venture capital firm, Rose Lake Capital, and a wine business, E Street Crew LLC, now at the center of mounting questions connected to the Congresswoman's financial disclosures. Last year, Congresswoman Omar filing 2024 financial disclosure forms showing she and her husband, Minette, accumulated a net worth of up to $30 million, an increase of 3,500% over the previous year. Forms reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon revealing the couple valued the winery somewhere between $1 million and $5 million. In February, Republican Congressman James Comer, chairman of the Oversight Committee, writing a letter to Minette requesting all documents and communications relating to the finances of his two companies. Congressman Comer writing, quote, given that these companies do not publicly list their investors or where their money comes from, this sudden jump in value raises concerns that unknown individuals may be investing to gain influence with your wife. When Minette did not comply with the request, the Oversight Committee then referring the matter to the House Ethics Committee, the Office of Congressional Conduct, or OCC, which is the House office tasked with performing the initial review of allegations of misconduct, sending a letter to Congresswoman Omar. Shortly thereafter, the Congresswoman amending her congressional disclosure, this time including liabilities tied to the two companies, effectively reducing their value to zero, according to the Wall Street Journal. Aides to Congresswoman Omar citing alleged accounting errors and her lack of familiarity with her husband's business dealings as justification for the error. In February, after Comer's ethics letter was sent, a representative for the winery told the New York Post the company was no longer operational. According to the California Secretary of State's business registry, the company was officially terminated on April 4th, two months after the first notice of an ethics probe. Scrutiny surrounding the businesses comes as a wider fraud scandal grips Minnesota's Somali community, of which Omar is a part, with President Trump and some Republicans raising questions about whether Omar's apparently growing wealth may be connected to that controversy. The congresswoman denies any wrongdoing. This incident, not the first time MyNet's wine business faced controversy. Founded in 2021, the company hit with fraud allegations in 2023 from an investor who claimed he was misled into putting up $300,000 on promises of a 200% return that never materialized. Court filings at the time indicating the winery had just $650 in its bank account. The lawsuit ultimately settled in 2024 with no criminal charges filed. and that'll do it for your am update i'm megan kelly join me back here for the mk show live on sirius xm's the megan kelly channel 111 at noon east on youtube.com slash megan kelly and on all podcast platforms
