This one, I know what this one is. I know you've been working out a lot, so get for you. Thank you so much. Merry Christmas. Oh, it's so thoughtful. Fitness gloves. Thank you. So protect your hands so you don't beat a... Thank you so much for these. Yeah, this is super thoughtful. Thank you. Well, just as always, ladies and gentlemen, we're going to get into the word I got today. We're going to be in Luke chapter seven. Let's get into it. After you had finished all the sayings in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. Now a Centurion, a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him. When the Centurion heard about Jesus, he sent him to the elders of the Jews, asking him to come and heal his servant. And when they came to Jesus, they pleaded with him earnestly saying, he is worthy to have you do this for him, for he loves our nation and he's the one who built us our synagogue. And Jesus went to them. So the Centurion, a Roman official, his servant gets sick and he says, I need healing for my servant. And it says, when he was not far from the house in verse six, the Centurion sent friends saying to him, Lord, do not trouble yourself for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. Therefore I did not presume you to come. Therefore I did not presume to come to you, but say the word and let my servant be healed. For I too am a man set underneath authority with soldiers under me. And I say to one, go when he goes into another company comes and to my servant, do this and he does it. When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him and turned to the crowd that followed him and said, I tell you not even in Israel if I found such faith. You know, Jesus doesn't say Paul is the one who has the most faith, Peter, John, the one whom he loved, John the Baptist. He says this Roman Centurion is the one he had seen the greatest faith. Faith defined in the book of Hebrews is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things unseen. And Centurion said, look, I'm not worthy to have you in my house. If you just say the word, he'll do it. Can we just believe for a split moment that the things in our life that are weighing us down, the troubles, the trials and the tribulations that if he would just say a word, he would take care of it. Can we believe that for ourselves? And when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the servant. Well, soon afterward, he went to a town called Nain and his disciples had a great crowd with him. And as he drew near to the gate, the town behold a man who had died was being carried out. The only son of his mother and she was a widow and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, do not weep. Then he came up and touched the beer and the bear stood still and he said, young man, I say to you, rise. And the dead man sat up and began to speak. Only God can raise someone from the dead so much so he raised himself from the dead. Muhammad's dead in the ground. Buddha's dead in the ground. Gandhi's dead in the ground. You and I will be dead in the ground and there's not enough shovels that can dig us up. But Jesus Christ is not bound by sin and death, but is the Lord over sin and death. This is the one who came to pay sin and atone for death. The one who came to break the chains for sin and death. He has the power in the authority to do so. Fear sees them all and they glorified God saying, a great prophet has arisen among us. And God has visited his people. And this report about him spread throughout the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country. Now this is so crazy right here. The messengers from John the Baptist. The disciples of John reported all these things to him and John, calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to the Lord saying, Are you the one who is to come or shall we look for another? Now keep in mind, John the Baptist is in jail. He's still in jail. He's been thrown in jail by King Herod and he sent two of his disciples from jail to get a message to go to Jesus saying, Are you the one who is to come or shall we look for another? John's beginning to doubt. John the Baptist is beginning to doubt. When the men who come to him, they said, John the Baptist is a synast to you saying, Are you the one who is to come or shall we look for another? In that hour, he healed many people of diseases and plagues and evil spirits and all many who were blind. He bestowed sight and he answered to them, Go and tell John what you have seen and heard. The blind received their sight. The lame walked, lepers are cleansed and the deaf here and the dead are raised up. The poor have good news preached to them and blessed is the one who is not offended by me. When John's messengers had gone, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning them. What did you go into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? Even in the midst of John the Baptist's doubt, he doesn't shame John the Baptist for having a moment of doubt. John had a moment of doubt. But he's saying he's not a reed shaken by the wind. He's steady, disciplined, a servant of mine. He says, What then did you go out and see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Behold. Those who are dressed in splendid clothing and live in luxury are in kings courts. What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, more than a prophet. This is he of whom is written, Behold, I sent my messenger before your face who will prepare your way before you. He's speaking out a prophecy about John the Baptist from the Old Testament. He says, I tell you, among those born of women, none is greater than John. He says, Of all the Old Testament prophets, even though he's just out of me, he is the greatest of all the prophets of old. But then he says, Yet the one who is the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. To what then shall I compare the people of this generation? What are they like? They're like children sitting in a marketplace calling one another. We've played the flute for you and you did not dance. We sang a dirge and you did not weep. For John the Baptist has come to eating no bread and drinking no wine. And you say to him, He has a demon. The son of man has come eating and drinking and you say, Look at him a glutton and a drunkard. A friend of tax collectors and sinners. Yet wisdom is justified by all her children. You know, we like to make excuses a lot. We'd like to say, Make excuses for ourselves, but not other people. We like to make excuses and let things slide, but not for other people. And we see a sinful woman forgiven. One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him. He went into the Pharisee's house and reclined at the table. And behold, a woman in the city was a sinner. When she learned that he was reclining at the table, brought an alabaster flask of ointment. And standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with ointment. You see in this time period, it was a customary respect thing that when someone came into your house, you washed their feet. They didn't do that. They were out to get blood for Jesus. They wanted to catch him. And when the Pharisee had invited him, saw this, he said, If you knew who this woman was, you wouldn't let her touch her feet. What was he saying? Verse 40. He doesn't even... He looks at Simon the Pharisee. Simon, I got something to say to you. Can you imagine Simon the Pharisee? Yes, say whatever you got. What do you got to say? What do you think you got to say is better than what I've said to you? What do I imagine Simon the Pharisee is saying? What do you think you got is better? And he gives a parable. There's a money lender that had two debtors. One owed 500 in an area and the other one 50. And when they could not pay, he canceled both their debts. He says, which one will love him more? And he said, obviously the one that had a larger debt. He said, you've judged righteously. He says, you see this woman? I came into your house and you didn't even wet my feet. You gave me no water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears. A sign of her love for me. You didn't even give me a kiss to greet me, but from the time I came in here, she has not ceased to kiss my feet. She's welcoming me into the home of her life and the home of her heart with the respect of the kisses of her feet and the respect of wedding me out of love with her tears. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she is anointed my feet with ointment. This alabaster flask of ointment was a year's salary, value of ointment. And in a moment out of love, she anoints his feet with oil, the dirtiest part of Jesus' body with oil. Therefore, I tell you, her sins, which are many are forgiven for she loved much, but he who is forgiven little loves little. He says to her, your sins are forgiven. And those who were at the table with him began to say among them, who is this who even forgives sins? And he said to this woman, your faith has saved you. Go in peace. You see this woman who had the most baggage, the sinful woman who carried the deep baggage, she didn't come into that place and go, oh my gosh, I got to do all these things so that God will accept me. No, she came to Jesus in total love and desperation for him. And because of her great love for him, the good things follow. God's grace and love empowers us to serve him. And her sins were forgiven. No matter the junk you carry, no matter the past you come from, you're not too far gone for the grace and love of God. Guys, I pray for you and thank you for reading Luke chapter 7 with me.
