Insights
  • Leadership transitions require affirming promises and building confidence in new leaders through divine reassurance and demonstrated continuity
  • Faith-based journeys often involve counterintuitive instructions that test trust and obedience rather than logical reasoning
  • Community support systems are essential during major life transitions, as evidenced by the 30-day mourning period for Moses
  • Spiritual preparation and meditation on foundational principles (the law) are prerequisites for success in new endeavors
  • Personal relationships and prioritizing loved ones during difficult times (cancer, illness) are spiritual imperatives that transcend surface-level conflicts
Trends
Growing emphasis on community-based spiritual support networks and collective prayer for health crisesIncreased listener engagement through personal testimony and prayer request participationDigital transformation of religious content delivery platforms with upcoming app redesignRising focus on mental health and emotional support alongside physical health challenges in faith communitiesExpansion of multi-platform accessibility for religious education and daily spiritual practice

Today is the 10th day of April. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I am Brian. It is a privilege. I'm grateful, very grateful as we come in for a landing on the work week and prepare to move into the end of the week tomorrow. And even as we're coming to some endings we're coming to a beginning we will conclude the book of Deuteronomy today and then begin the book of Joshua. So we'll talk about Joshua and do a little flyover as we as we get there. So today we'll read Deuteronomy chapter 34 and then Joshua chapters 1 and 2. Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo to the top of Piska, which is opposite Jericho. And Yahweh showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, and all Naftali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea, and then Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees as far as Zohar. Then Yahweh said to him, This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob saying, I will give it to your seed. I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there. So Moses the servant of Yahweh died there in the land of Moab, according to the command of Yahweh, and he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab, opposite Betpior. But no man knows his burial place to this day. Now Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eye was not dim nor his vigor abated. So the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab 30 days. Then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end. Now Joshua, the son of Nun, was filled with the spirit of wisdom. For Moses had laid his hands on him, and the sons of Israel listened to him and did as Yahweh had commanded Moses. And there has not yet arisen a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom Yahweh knew face to face. In regard to all the signs and wonders which Yahweh sent him to do in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh, all his servants, and all his land, and in regard to all the mighty power, and in regard to all the great terror which Moses did in the sight of all Israel. Okay, so that concludes the book of Deuteronomy, and that concludes the Torah. And we are 100 days into the journey of our year as we conclude the Torah, the first five books of the Bible, also known as the Pentateuch. So as we end this grouping of books in the scriptures, we say goodbye to a major figure, Moses. So let's just kind of take that in now because we're kind of moving into new territory. The next chapter, same story, but we have gone all the way from the book of Genesis to this place where Moses has led the children of Israel right to the precipice of the promise. So take a deep breath, we're moving forward, we're entering a new era with the children of Israel. And as we begin the book of Joshua, we will see God waste no time in affirming his promises to Joshua, and we'll see Joshua wasting no time preparing the people to do what they have been waiting for, but we've been on this journey too as we read the Bible, what we've been waiting for almost since the beginning of the Bible to finally get on the other side of the Jordan River and enter into the promised land. Like at this point, it's almost a mythic land that had been promised so long ago, centuries before, with the beginning of a covenant with Abraham, and then with Isaac, and then with Jacob, it had been a whisper of hope through centuries of captivity after Joseph. It guided the Exodus into freedom. It formed the basis of a new culture. Everything that we've gone through so far has been leading us to the Jordan River, toward the promised land, and we're about to finally cross. So in a very real way, the entire wilderness experience for the children of Israel had this singular focus. It taught the people who God was, who they were in covenant with, how to know and obey him, and now they have to go into the land of promise with full faith that God will go before them, and full faith in the promise that he gave their ancestors, and full hearts to obey, but they're not going to be able to just move in. They have to contend for the promise, and the children of Israel are about to embark upon a very great mission, and to accomplish it, they will have to remain in covenant, collaborating with God against all odds at times. And this conquest will notice God, like, instructing them in very counterintuitive ways, with almost bizarre instructions at times that wouldn't make logical sense. That's how the mirror comes up, though. Our own wilderness journeys, how we learn the counterintuitive nature of trust. All these things are still true of our lives today, which is why walking with God requires awareness of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, the voice of wisdom. It's how we go through life, learning, and getting to know, and being in a relationship with God. So in Joshua, we're going to see one of the most glorious eras in the Bible. There will be stumbles along the way. Ah, gosh, as is the human story. Like, if that were said about my life, we're going to see the life laid out before us. There will be stumbles along the way. I guess we can all say that. But we will see the people here fully engaged in their trust for God and in their relationship with God. This isn't the end of their story. We will wind our way through all of it. They will fall away, and they will come back, and they will fall away, and they will return repeatedly for the next several centuries. But right now, we're at this moment of transfer of power from Moses to Joshua. We're about to witness a brand new leader over the children of Israel and a brand new generation, and we will cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land. So today we begin Joshua, chapters one and two. Now it came about after the death of Moses, the servant of Yahweh, that Yahweh spoke to Joshua, the son of Nun, Moses' attendant, saying, Moses, my servant, is dead. So now arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel, every place on which the soul of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even as far as the Great River, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and as far as the Great Sea, toward the setting of the sun, will be your territory. No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life, just as I have been with Moses. I will be with you. I will not fail you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, to be careful to do according to all the law which Moses, my servant, commanded you. Do not turn aside from it to the right or to the left, so that you may be prosperous wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way successful and then you will be prosperous. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be in dread or be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go. Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people saying, pass through the midst of the camp and command the people saying, Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you are to cross this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which Yahweh your God is giving you to possess it. To the Rubinites and to the Gadites and to the half tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said, remember the word which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you saying, Yahweh your God gives you rest and will give you this land. Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle shall remain in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan, but you shall cross before your brothers in battle array. All your valiant warriors and shall help them until Yahweh gives your brothers rest as he gives you, and they also possess the land which Yahweh your God is giving them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession and possess it, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you beyond the Jordan to the east toward the sunrise. And they answered Joshua saying, all that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we listen to Moses in all things, so we will listen to you. Only may Yahweh your God be with you as he was with Moses. Anyone who rebels against your command and does not listen to your words, in all that you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and courageous. Then Joshua the son of Nun sent two men as spies secretly from Shatim saying, see the land, especially Jericho. So they went and came into the house of a harlot whose name was Rahab and Lodge there. And it was told to the king of Jericho saying, behold men from the sons of Israel have come here tonight to search out the land. And the king of Jericho sent word to Rahab saying, bring out the men who have come to you who have entered your house, for they have come to search out all the land. But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them. And she said, yes, the men came to me, but I did not know where they were from. Now it happened when it was time to shut the gate at dark, that the men went out. I do not know where the men went. Pursue them quickly, for you may overtake them. But she had brought them up to the roof and concealed them in the stalks of flax which she had laid in order on the roof. So the men pursued them on the road to the Jordan to the Fords. And as soon as those who were pursuing them had gone out, they shut the gate. Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof and said to the men, I know that Yahweh has given you the land and that the terror of you has fallen on us. And that all the inhabitants of the land have melted away before you. For we have heard how Yahweh dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og whom you devoted to destruction. Indeed, we heard it, and our hearts melted, and a courageous spirit no longer rose up in any man because of you, for Yahweh your God. He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. So now, please swear to me by Yahweh, since I have shown loving kindness to you, that you also will show loving kindness to my father's household, and give me a pledge of truth, and preserve my father and my mother and my brothers and my sisters alive with all who belong to them, and deliver our lives from death. So the men said to her, our life for yours, if you do not tell this business of ours, and it will be when Yahweh gives us the land that we will show loving kindness and truth to you. Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was on the city wall, so that she was living on the wall, and she said to them, go to the hill country lest the pursuers reach you, and hide yourselves there for three days until the pursuers return, then afterward you may go on your way. And the men said to her, we shall be free from this oath to you which you have made us swear, unless when we come into the land, you tie this cord of scarlet thread in the window through which you let us down, and gather to yourself into the house your father and your mother and your brothers and all your father's household. And it will be that anyone who goes out of the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be on his own head, and we shall be free, but anyone who is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head if a hand is laid on him. But if you tell this business of ours, then we shall be free from the oath which you have made us swear. And she said, according to your words, so be it. So she sent them away, and they went, and she tied the scarlet cord in the window. And they went and came to the hill country and remained there for three days until the pursuers returned. The pursuers had sought them all along the road but had not found them. Then the two men returned and came down from the hill country and crossed over and came to Joshua, the son of Nun, and they recounted to him all that had happened to them. And they said to Joshua, surely Yahweh has given all the land into our hands. Moreover, all the inhabitants of the land have melted away before us. Luke 13, 22, 14, 6 And he was passing through from one city and village to another, teaching and proceeding on his way to Jerusalem. And someone said to him, Lord, are there just a few who are being saved? And he said to them, strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door saying, Lord, open up to us, then he will answer and say to you, I do not know where you are from. Then you will begin to say, we ate and drank in your presence and you taught in our streets. And he will say, I tell you, I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you workers of unrighteousness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being cast out. And they will come from east and west and from north and south and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God. And behold, some are last who will be first and some are first who will be last. Just at that time, some Pharisees approached, saying to him, leave and go from here, for Herod wants to kill you. And he said to them, go and tell that box. Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow and on the third day I finish. Nevertheless, I must journey on today and tomorrow and the next day, for it is not possible that a prophet would perish outside of Jerusalem. Oh, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, just as a hand gathers her brood under her wings and you did not want it. Behold, your house is left to you desolate. And I say to you, you will not see me until the time comes and you say, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. And it happened that when he went into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching him closely. And behold, in front of him was a man suffering from dropsy. And Jesus answered and spoke to the scholars of the law and Pharisees, saying, is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not? But they were silent. And he took hold of him, healed him and sent him away. And he said to them, which one of you will have a son or an ox fall into a well and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day. And they could make no reply to this. Psalm 79 How long, oh Yahweh, the Psalm of Asaph. Oh God, the nations have come into your inheritance. They have defiled your holy temple. They have laid Jerusalem in ruins. They have given the dead bodies of your slaves for food to the birds of the heavens, the flesh of your holy ones to the beasts of the earth. They have poured out their blood like water around about Jerusalem. And there was no one to bury them. We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a mockery and derision to those around us. How long, oh Yahweh, will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire? Pour out your wrath upon the nations which do not know you and upon the kingdoms which do not call upon your name, for they have devoured Jacob and laid waste his abode. Do not remember our former iniquities against us. Let your compassion quickly approach us, for we are brought very low. Help us, oh God, of our salvation, for the glory of your name, and deliver us and atone for our sins for your namesake. Why should the nations say, where is their God? Let it be known among the nations before our eyes, vengeance for the blood of your slaves which has been poured out, and the groaning of the prisoner come before you. According to the greatness of your power preserve those who are doomed to die, and return to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom, the reproach with which they have reproached you, oh Lord. But as for us, as your people and the sheep of your pasture, we will give thanks to you forever. From generation to generation, we will recount your praise. Proverbs 12, 26 The righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked makes them wander about. Father, we thank you for your words. We thank you for 100 days of this year, of this journey together. We thank you for this transition. As the story continues, we have a new leader getting to know Joshua. We're getting to know what it's like to be in the Promised Land in the coming days. This is the Holy Spirit. Thank you for bringing us this far. We invite you to continue to open our eyes and ears that we might find ourselves in these stories and apply these things into our lives so that we are transformed as only you can do, as only your word can do. So we invite you into the days ahead as the story and complexion changes, into all that is before us, lead us, and do all truth. We ask in the name of Jesus. Amen. DailyAudiobible.com and DailyAudiobible app are home base, website, and app. Get connected and be connected. All things are soon to be new, very, very soon to be new as we prepare to launch into a brand new app, brand new everything actually from the ground up. But I look forward to telling that story soon. I'm getting real close now. So maybe just start praying over, I mean to roll out something that has taken years and significant investment and faith and frustration. Yeah, just it's a big deal. So let's pray over as it becomes the new home, actually the new home of the global campfire. So that's coming soon. But in the meantime, check out the DailyAudiobible shop. There are resources there for the journey that we are on in a number of different categories. So check them out. If you want to partner with the DailyAudiobible, you can do that at DailyAudiobible.com. I will give you deepest humble gratitude. We would not be here now into our 21st year every day. If we have not been in this together, thank you humbly, deeply, profoundly. There is a link on the homepage at DailyAudiobible.com. And that is it for today. I am Brian. I love you and I will be waiting for you here tomorrow. This message is just for courteous. This is Kevin in Columbia, Tennessee. Been here since pretty much the beginning. Just rarely call in, but this morning I felt like a shit-offer agreement with courteous's prayer for his marriage. His wife just overcame cancer. She is cancer-free. My wife, Eliana, today is also cancer-free, but in the arms of Jesus. Cancer was such a big fight and took so much out. But courteous, your prayer to value your time with your wife and to support her and make her your true priority is key. It is perfect. It is exactly what you need. There are so many moments that I wish I could have back with Eliana. I would have handled those arguments different. You know, you don't know what you have got to. It is gone. And there are so many things that she was crying out for that on the surface looked like maybe an argument or something, but her spirit was crying for something deeper and it was for her husband's love and to treat her right and true. And that's exactly the words of your prayer. And I stand in agreement with your buddy. This is where you need to go. You know what to do. Go there. This is Devin, Texas. I wanted to speak to Rebecca, who is traveling to New York to see her cousin, Jennifer, who has young children and was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer stage four. Rebecca, you mentioned a lot of things you were going through as you're going through a valley of your own. The Lord is strengthening you for a time such as this, for you to be his hands and feet, for your cousin, for her family, to minister to them. Even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we'll fear no evil for thou art with me. Those words never rung so fluently to me other than specifically these last few years. I lost my husband to pancreatic cancer. My daughter became extremely ill with migraines and it took a lot to finally get the right treatment for her. I lost my brother suddenly. I lost my brother in I lost my brother in law suddenly. It has been an ordeal had it not been but God. Put God in front. Worship him every day. Just be there for your cousin and her children to support her as she goes through this because it's extremely difficult. She's going to need you. You can be the hands and feet of Jesus and God is using you for a time such as this. God bless you. God bless everyone who has a struggle right now, whether it be cancer, financial, mental, whether you're imprisoned, whatever it is. May the Lord bless you and keep you and the Lord be with you all the days of your life. ABAB family. This is Cohen for Christ calling. It's been a while but my heart's heavy right now. A close brother in the faith and his brother in law in a multi-car accident last night and his brother in law passed away. I'm just praying. Right now Jesus, I'm just lifting up my brother Chris. I'm praying, healing over him as he's now in surgery and it looks like he's got multiple surgeries coming his way and that he's going to be off work for a long time. So please God, I'm lifting up this family and I'm praying that you just support them. You're our healer, you're our helper, you're everything to us. And I just pray and thank you that we have this body that we can all come collectively and just lift up our following fellow members. Thank God, be with that family, this brother in law, to you. Bless them and may the speed, time that they come together and recognize who you are. Jesus made this testimony. Be pure, be true and direct so many people to you. Thank you Jesus. Hi my beautiful dabbers, it's Asia calling from the city of angels and it's April 4th and we are calling in and just giving all thanks and praise to our beautiful and glorious Lord and Savior and His beautiful work on the cross, fully God, fully man, all that He suffered for us and His incredible power to be risen and we're just so grateful, grateful and in this season just feeling renewed by His blood and restored and refreshed and knowing who's we are and what our purpose is and where we will go. We are just so grateful. Thank you Jesus. Thank you Father God. Thank you Holy Spirit. I'm calling to lift up Elizabeth from Delaware's prayers. Such a sweet sister, I love hearing her call in her prayers. Such a prayerful woman. And I just want to lift up her friend Henry who has, is really struggling with leukemia and the medication is not working so we are praying for this medication that God has allowed the pharmacists and the scientists to create and manufacture to help treat these diseases that are a result of the fall and we don't understand exactly why we have them but we know they're part of our carnal unredeem bodies and we're just, as we navigate life with them we just pray that they, this medication will work and these medications will work for everyone who's taking them and definitely for Henry, Elizabeth's friend and that this leukemia would be treatable and it would lessen her pain and that the blood of Christ would restore her and redeem her back to health and we also pray for Elizabeth's friends, another woman named Elizabeth and her husband who are struggling, really struggling with their faith. We pray that God would open a window to their hearts. They might truly see him there in Jesus mighty name we pray. Amen. Good morning. I want to quickly respond to a couple prayer requests. First is for the woman that called in from North Carolina. Her husband's been in the hospital for a couple times recently and she's the caregiver at home. Lord, we just ask that you bring strength and healing and energy to this man that you would just provide the doctors the insight to prescribe the right medications and prescribe the right things and diagnose properly and also give her strength as she is the daily caregiver. Lord, just be strong in her weakness. Lord, and I want to pray for Brian who called in, believe it was Brian. He's doing his, he's defending his doctorate or we just pray that you just give him clarity of mind. Just give him supernatural peace and calmness as he goes into this defense and just give him a good night's sleep the night before. Again, just give him energy and clarity and focus as he goes into it. Let all the preparation come to fruition. Lord, and your in yourselves. Amen. Hello DAB family. This is a miracle child from Fargo, AKA Louisa. Would you all please play for me? I have a biopsy on the 13th of April and would appreciate prayers for good results. I had a mammogram and ultrasound done last week and found two spots that they are going to do a biopsy on. I am hoping for good results. If it is anything concerning, please pray for wisdom for doctors to know what the next course of treatment should be. Most importantly, let God's glory be shown through this. Please pray that I can trust God through whatever the results may be and that his will be done through me. Thank you DAB family. Love you lots. Bye.
