You Saw a Sasquatch. That’s All There Is to It. - Bigfoot Eyewitness Episode 526

•Feb 24, 2026about 2 months agoSummary
Nick, an Oregon native and elk hunter, recounts a detailed Sasquatch sighting near Great Falls, Montana in November, where he observed a bipedal creature through a spotting scope that exhibited human-like facial features and movement patterns distinctly different from bears. The episode explores his journey from skepticism to near-complete conviction, supported by corroborating accounts from locals and his own family.
Insights
- Eyewitness credibility increases when observers have extensive outdoor experience and can articulate specific behavioral differences between known animals and their sighting
- Geographic acceptance of cryptid existence varies significantly by region, with Oregon's west side showing higher cultural acceptance than rural eastern areas despite similar sighting frequency
- Post-sighting behavior patterns suggest that direct encounter experiences fundamentally shift belief systems more effectively than secondhand accounts or media coverage
- Wildlife displacement patterns (elk herd absence) following alleged Sasquatch sightings may provide indirect evidence worth investigating in cryptozoological research
- The 'fever dream' quality of sightings may indicate cognitive processing challenges when encountering unfamiliar stimuli in high-stress outdoor situations
Trends
Increasing use of outdoor technology (spotting scopes, GPS marking) in cryptozoological documentation attemptsRegional variation in cryptid acceptance correlating with forest density and cultural demographicsGrowing interest in Sasquatch sightings among younger outdoor enthusiasts and huntersAnecdotal evidence clustering around specific geographic hotspots (Madison River, Little Belts, Cascades)Post-sighting lifestyle changes driving increased outdoor engagement and field time among witnessesSocial validation through peer storytelling as primary mechanism for belief formation in cryptid communitiesWildlife behavior anomalies (herd avoidance) as potential indirect indicators of cryptid presence

And that was my whole idea coming up was, hey, I want to be outside just about as much as I can. I recently met some people who, you know, coming from rural eastern Oregon, worked a lot with cows, family ranch and whatnot. They gave me an opportunity to help out. They're about an hour-ish outside of Great Falls, Montana. and with me being able to help out and work with them, they gave me hunting rights up there. So it was about early to mid-November, looking through my camera roll, I believe it was November 11th, but I was about 45 minutes southeast of Great Falls in the Little Belts, and I was elk hunting. It was absolutely just dumping snow where I was at. And it's been a really warm winter up here. This was kind of one of those off days. It was just pouring down snow out there searching for a big old bull. And I'm sitting about 600 yards out of what looks like a bear. You know, I'm in this coulee and I'm up on this little tiny rock bluff that goes down into it. And my buddy, he'd given me i mean it's it's a primo vortex spotting scope i mean it's it's nicer than just about anything i've ever owned i'm watching as the snow comes down i see something and i'm i just it looks like a bear like it it looks like a bear which is weird to me there's snow out i'm thinking you know i'm obviously not the most experienced hunter but i could tell you like hey they're probably looking to go into hibernation around that time uh i'm watching him i'm watching him and all of a sudden i mean he just kind of turns towards me and i'm thinking like man that is i'm happy i'm this far out like i'm shooting a seven millimeter rem mag uh 154 grain hornady super performance rounds thinking like man i'm i'm happy i'm this far out like this could get it's gonna get a little uh sketchy if he was any closer after that i'm watching him i'm watching him and he's still on all fours and he gets behind this tree it kind of turns my general direction and i guess in the snow i just couldn't see but he didn't have a snout that a bear usually does like all right that's odd you know maybe it's a young sow or something but i mean that'd be the biggest grizzly, the biggest young sow that I've ever seen. I really couldn't tell you what was going on. As I'm sitting there, as I'm watching, it stood up on its hind legs and it started to walk and it went down behind this tree. And immediately I could tell that is not a bear. I don't know what that is, but that cannot be a bear. You know, I know grizzlies can get very large, but there was no way this was a bear. The way it walked, the way it looked, the way, I mean, just everything about it. And as I'm sitting there looking out, even just in between the snow, I'm staring at it, and it felt like I could hardly see its face, but it looked, I mean, it looked ape-like. It looked like it was a person. And I, you know, I could not tell you what it was besides a Sasquatch. And it looked at me and it felt like it made eye contact. And about as soon as that happened, We held eye contact for maybe two, three seconds. Boom, straight down the hill, straight down to the bottom of the coulee. And I'm obviously intrigued at this point. I mean, seeing a bear or what I thought was a bear, at least run on its hind legs down. What was probably a 25 degree angle. I mean, just absolutely hauling rear. I've never seen anything like that before. And I knew at that moment, this is not a bear. uh i had my 10 millimeter glock 20 it's a gen 3 on my uh bino pack i thought like you know i i do not want to hurt whatever whatever is down there i'm looking for elk right now but curiosity is gonna kill the cat and uh i'm meowing so i hauled off down the hill searching and searching and surgeon. And I, I marked on on X exactly where it was. I knew, Hey, it had to be here. It's in this patch of woods, you know, at the base of this Cooley, there's nowhere else it could have gone. I, you know, where could this thing have gone? Uh, so I walked, gosh, I mean that the time of day that that happened was probably around nine in the morning. And I probably walked till five at night. I mean, until there was absolutely not a drop of sunlight left and I had to go straight out of that Cooley just, you know, in pitch black, but I could not find it for the life of me. And I asked the landowner when I got back that night, Hey, do you guys have grizzlies out there? And he said, yeah, you know, there's one or two, but they like to stay on the neighbor's side of the property because it's much more wooded. I said, okay, well, when was the last time you saw one. I said, man, it's probably been two or three years. We have plenty of black bears, but no grizzlies. I said, okay, how big are they? Can you usually tell? Where are they located? I said, this is, I think I saw a grizzly out here. I know you guys run cows up here. I just watch out. He said, I've never seen a grizzly over there. I've only ever seen them up at the very top of the coulee on the opposite side of where I saw what I believe was the Sasquatch. So kind of where I was, I kept watching, you know, going out the next few days hunting, never saw it again. Didn't even see any elk or deer, you know, because I had a tag for a muley and a bull elk. And I, you know, after that kind of encounter, I didn't see any muleys down low. which I was seeing what felt like hundreds on the day. Never saw any elk ever again, kind of in that coulee for the rest of the hunting season. And I just, there's no way that an entire herd of elk, you know, that herd that I've been tracking through there, it's about two to 300 elk that move. They never came back to that area. And I don't know if this was like a recent thing because of what I saw. I don't know if it's because that actually was a grizzly and those elk are just, you know, have decided not to have anything to do with that. I don't know if it was because of the weather. There's just a whole lot of unknowns. But what I can tell you, I know for a fact, is what I saw could not have been a bear. The way it looked, the way it moved, you know, everything about it. And I wish, I don't know, I guess it's because I didn't, I was so dumbfounded and shocked by what I was saying that I didn't take a picture through the spotting scope or record. But I feel like whatever I was looking at was way too smart to let me look at them for very much longer. and I don't know. I like to think it was a Sasquatch, especially because there's no way it could possibly be a bear with the way it runs. I was talking around with some of my hometown buddies and one of them was telling me, he said, hey, I was driving, where was that? That was south of Pendleton, Oregon on this logging road. He said he was driving, it's raining out, he's coming around this corner he's driving he's driving and coming around and he says it looks like an elk on the road but it was on its hind legs and he's as he's coming around this corner he can just barely see it barely see it it's perched up i guess touching this tree with its head up so he's going he swerves he's trying not to hit it and his wind like as he gets closer he knows like he can just tell this isn't an elk i don't know what this is like is this this can't be a bear either that's that's way too big to be a black bear in eastern oregon because we don't have grizzlies and his mirror on his passenger side just clips it and he stops you know he's got the brakes locked up and he looks out the window and he sees whatever it was he hit peel off into the woods and he's thinking to himself like man was i like I must be hallucinating or something. I don't know. What just happened? Starting a business can be overwhelming. So he drives back, he finally gets home about half an hour later and he's still just all caught up about it opens up his door walks around goes to his passenger side mirror and looks at it and it's all this gray and brown hair but it looks like human hair almost it's definitely not bare fur and it's not an elk hide and there's a giant dent in his mirror and he was saying he's thinking like did i like was someone trying to pull a joke on me like is this some sort of, you know, prank, something like that? Like, what, what is this? He said, well, if someone was trying to mess with me, there's no way that after getting hit by, you know, an F-350, they just would have scattered off into the woods. It couldn't have been an elk by the way it looked. And there's no way it could have been a grizzly because we only have black bears. It was way too big to be any sort of deer. So just kind of after hearing his story, I was talking to him about what I saw during elk season, he was telling me about his experience. Just kind of thinking like, you know, I don't, I can't say, I can't say I'm 100% a full believer because I have no idea what I saw, but I'm starting to think more and more as I, you know, ask other people, tell stories and kind of go back and forth. Like, Hey, have you seen this? Have you, you know, does a grizzly act this way? Does, you know, have you ever had an encounter with a Sasquatch? Like, what do you think? Uh, and I actually, I sat down one night in this lodge in a smaller town outside of great falls where I was hunting. And I was asking this guy, he was, I asked, I was like, have you ever, this is a crazy question. Have you ever seen a Sasquatch and the little belts and he said no but my grandpa would swear his life on seeing one um and he said kind of a very similar story and after that i've kind of i don't know the more i've thought about it the more i've discussed i'm probably 99 of the way there but i just i need to see it again so that's besides you know elk hunting next season i'm also really excited to get back out there too for that reason to look for that uh sasquatch but yeah it was such a i mean everyone that i've talked to about it too always says like it feels like a fever dream almost you know um and i couldn't agree more like it felt 100 like a fever dream and i just i i don't know i'm i'm just dumbfounded by it so i think that's all i've got vic well that's quite a bit there just for clarity when you go elk hunting next season are you more excited about the possibility of having another sighting seeing another sasquatch or the elk hunt you know i i really love to elk hunt but if i could see like if i could have the possibility for a sasquatch hunt or not a sasquatch hunt but like to see a sasquatch while i hunt that'd be awesome. It probably would be better than tagging out if I'm being honest. Something you might not have considered is there's a strong possibility you might pay more attention to keeping an eye out for another Sasquatch than looking for elk. Do you see that happening? Yeah, I mean, 100%. Just after kind of that, maybe not confrontation is the word to describe it, but after just seeing something like that i mean of course hey i'm gonna be looking to tag out but i don't know i think i have a spring bear tag um and i think i'm gonna do everything in my power to stick it out kind of in that similar area in the little belts and just hope and pray to look uh for something like that again. You know, spend as much time as I can out there for the possibility of seeing a Sasquatch. I hope you do have another sighting someday. And considering how much time you obviously spend out there in the woods, it's definitely possible. You never know. Yeah. You definitely don't. You were born and raised in Oregon, Nick. Since so many Sasquatch sightings happen there as an outsider, it seems to me like there would be a lot of acceptance when it comes to their existence by people there. Am I right about that? Yeah, I would, I would agree there. Uh, most of them, I guess in my experience, um, most of those sightings happen on the west side of the state and I'm more on the east side. And I guess that's just a difference in geography. But I mean, everywhere you go in Oregon, people know that there's something out there. And a lot of farmers and ranchers you talk to, especially way farther east Oregon, will say, oh, well, it was just a real big black bear. It was just a mountain lion, that sort of thing. um i just think they can't really handle the truth that hey maybe it's it's not just a mountain lion maybe it's not just a black bear like there there's a lot out there that we don't know and i've spent enough time elk hunting to where i know there's some real sketchy uh terrain that you just you can't get to and i'm sure that because of that uh sasquatch is probably hiding out there You know, on the west side, in the Cascades, and, well, I'd say really just in the Cascades, I remember hearing a story about how when Mount St. Helens erupted, there was a ton more Sasquatch sightings around that area, along with more Sasquatch sightings near Portland, all the way through Corvallis, Salem, and Eugene. so I think there's definitely more acceptance on the west side and I think it's starting to grow especially with the greater changes in technology on the east side. I've been to Oregon before but for the life of me I can't remember. Is the east side, I know the west side's definitely heavily forested but as far as the east side of Oregon goes, is that mostly farmland from what you're saying? yeah it's a lot of sagebrush um there's the columbia plateau that runs through there and once you get you know pendleton is kind of at the foothills of the blues and i'm i'm kind of around in that area uh but back up against it i mean you have the blues the elk horns the strawberries uh the wallowas i mean you got plenty of forested wooded areas back there but it's just not nearly as much as there is on the west side. Well, having been to Oregon, it didn't take long to notice if you're a Sasquatch, that sure is a great place to run around and make a living. It really is. Being from Oregon, did you believe in their existence before you had that sighting in Great Falls? You know, I was always kind of on the fence. And like I said earlier, you know, 95, 99 to five or one is kind of where I'm at now. But, you know, when I was back home, it's like, yeah, you know, this is. I feel a little stupid for saying this, but it was always, oh, you know, those hippies on the west side, like, of course, they're going out and seeing Sasquatch, you know, whatever. At the same time, though, I had heard enough stories that I was probably at that point, probably 50-50. Like, it could just be these crazy folks out there or, you know, hearing some of the stuff that I've heard from family, friends and people I know. Maybe there is something out there. But after that sighting outside of Great Falls, it's definitely shifted my perspective a lot. Oh, I'm sure it has. and it's awfully easy to explain away their existence. I mean, there are so many excuses and believable reasons why they can't exist. But when it boils down to it, you know they're definitely out there now. There's no going back now. I've been to Montana too, but I never did go to Great Falls. What's the area like around there where you have that siding? Is it heavily forested or are there a lot of open areas mixed in? so it's uh it's a really interesting terrain i would say it's there's a lot of it that is flat and kind of sagebrush and you know rolling hills that sort of thing but as soon as you get uh into the big or little belts i mean it just uh it gets kind of crazy after that You can go from you know you could lay a level down on some of the land out there and it would tell you hey you good to go You can lay a foundation right now. And some of that stuff, I mean, it looks like a 90 degree angle when you look up at it. The part that I was in, it was kind of interesting. so on the east side of the coulee was a lot more west side, my mistake I was on the east side on the east side it was much more rolling hills just trees here and there rock bluffs, sagebrush and on the west side of the coulee it was much more heavily forested and it was probably I don't know Yeah, that's probably, I don't want to, you know, bluff or say anything like that or miscontrude what I'm trying to say. But where I was at, it was a really interesting mix of both flat sagebrush and mountainous wooded area. Montana sure is a beautiful place. It really is. starting a business can be overwhelming you're juggling multiple roles designer marketer logistics manager all while bringing your vision to life shopify helps millions of business sell online build fast with templates and ai descriptions and photos inventory and shipping sign up for your one euro per month trial and start selling today at shopify.nl that's shopify.nl it's time to see what you can accomplish with Shopify by your side. So, we can now listen to your podcast. can accomplish with Shopify by your side. You told us about how that Sasquatch locked eyes with you. What did you see in its eyes though? More of an animal or more of a person? You know, when I say I locked eyes, it just, I was so far out. It was hard to see like, hey, it's making eye contact with me. I could tell it was looking in my general direction and I could see its face was certainly not a bear. I mean, no snout. It looks kind of pale. And it looked to be a human mouth. You know, I would say it was definitely much more animal than human. Well, I shouldn't say much more. It was probably 60-40 animal human. You could tell there were distinct facial features, but it was definitely animal-like. more so animal-like you weren't all that close to it but you sure did do a good job noticing the details hats off to you and also you said that you saw it in a coolie for the people listening who don't know what a coolie is please tell them a coolie uh from what kind of my uh, region or however you want to call it. A Cooley is like a very, uh, spread out valley almost, you know, people think of a valley as being more of a V imagine a Cooley as, uh, a V that's has both sides of it spread out with kind of like a flat base in between it. Um, You know, at the bottom of this Cooley, there's a creek and it's probably, I'd say, 150 yards across at the base. Most valleys, it's just, you know, hill to hill, but it's much more open. And Cooley usually has like a hill that rolls into it from one side or the other. and on the north end of this, that's exactly what it was. And that's where I suspect he ran off to or she. I don't really know when it comes to Sasquatch, but yeah, that's what a Cooley is. That was kind of the area I was at. Thanks for spelling that out for us. I appreciate it. And you said you don't know if it was a he or a she. I take it that you didn't see any pendulous breasts or any indication then that it might have been a female that you saw. yeah uh you know i i didn't really know if that's how you could identify i mean i know that's how you can identify identify uh men and women human differently uh but i no i didn't see it it looked i don't know it looked like it had a just one big beer belly almost like from probably its shoulders. It was kind of flat and then just a little bit rounded after that. From the side, like I was saying, it really looked like a bear with a little bit of fat hanging down, which would make sense before going into hibernation. When it stood up, it was much more, it looked more built, but I've never, I don't know the difference or I didn't know the difference till now, I'd say between a male and a female Sasquatch. Uh, another thing is I didn't see any, you know, reproductive organs, uh, on the front side of it when it was moving down. And that may have been because of the snow, how far out I was, et cetera. But I just, I didn't know how to identify it. Well, like I said earlier, you're doing a great job with the details. hats off to you how close did you live to an area that might have had a sasquatch living in it back then when you have that sighting well where i'm at right now uh i'm probably 45 minutes away um from the madison mountain range in uh southwest montana and i would assume i've you know i've hiked through there a couple times, and I would assume that's probably the closest spot to me. You know, all throughout, especially southwest Montana, there are plenty of places that I would say could home a Sasquatch. From everything that you've said so far tonight, every indication is that the answer to this following question is going to be yes, but you never know. From experience, You never know how an eyewitness is ultimately going to answer this. My question is, now that you had that experience, does the forest hold more allure for you or less? Vic, you read me like a book. 100%. Yes. You know, I love to explore and hike and fish and hunt. And, you know, just knowing that there's something out there that maybe that this probably isn't the right wording, but that I get to be a part of that I know about that I've seen that other people haven't, you know, kind of that urge to explore and learn and that sort of thing have really it's given the woods and whatnot much more allure. As long as you can say that, that's definitely a good thing. With that in mind, have you ever headed out for the sole intention of trying to see another Sasquatch? You know, I really, I really, I don't know how I would go about it. That's kind of my only concern is that I want to see one, another one terribly, but I think I just was so lucky. I'll never have that luck again in my entire life until I see a bull that scores over 400 right there. So I don't know. When I go back out for spring bear, I'm definitely going to keep my eyes peeled and look out. But I don't know. I've heard a lot, too, about them being out on the Madison River, especially the upper Madison towards Hebgen Lake. and I'm really hoping that I could get out there and hopefully see one. But like I was saying, I was so lucky to just be able to see one from, call it 600 yards out, that I don't know if I'll ever be able to recreate that sort of luck again, but I'm hoping to. Something to keep in mind is a strange quirk about these guys. It seems like you're much more likely to have another sighting or just have a sighting, period, if you've never seen one, if you don't go looking for them than if you do go looking for them. So please keep that in mind. It sounds like you did. Did you catch the Bigfoot bug after seeing that one or was it business as usual for you? You know, it kind of was business as usual for a second there. just like, oh, like, I don't know what I saw, but I've been up since four in the morning. You know, I didn't eat breakfast this morning. I haven't had my coffee. Like I, I, something was going on, right. Uh, I'm by myself in the woods. Like that's, that's number one, but kind of the more I thought about it, I was like, well, you know, I've been out there before in the exact same conditions. I haven't seen anything like that. But you know what surely there something else The more I kind of started to I guess research and look into things And by that I mean just ask people if they ever seen one or anything like that That's when I really kind of caught the bug. And, you know, the worst part about the bug, like you were saying, is is when you go out and look for him, you're probably not going to see one. But if you're just on a hike with your dog or something, you're much more likely to encounter one. So I'm going to try and keep the blinders on to, you know, spot one, hopefully another day. It's good you're going to do that. It would definitely seem that would increase your odds of seeing one. So that's a good thing. You sound like a true outdoorsman to me. Did you spend more time in the field after having that experience or less? well i definitely spent a lot more time uh outside and in the field it wasn't necessarily because of that it was more so um because i didn't have much time left to tag out but uh once shoulder season and that's that's cow elk up here in montana uh on private land once that season rolled around i mean i was outside as much as i can and or as much as i could be and I mean I was doing everything to try and spot another one just hopefully kind of to reinforce what I saw. So I would say that, yeah, I spent a lot more time outside and in the field. It wasn't necessarily to find more Sasquatch at first, but it quickly turned into that. I hope you don't get too frustrated doing all these outings and not having another sighting yet. I wouldn't be surprised if you do have another one someday. You never know. You told some of your buddies about your sighting, but did you tell your family about it? And if you did, what kind of responses did you get? Well, I told my dad, um, not too long ago because he brought up a story. Actually that story I told earlier. And, uh, I said, yeah, you know what? Like matter of fact, you say that I was out hunting and you know, this happened, this is what I saw. And he said, I don't know if, you know, sasquatch a real or not but there's a lot of evidence to point towards a yes and uh my little brother he uh nate if you're listening to this i'm sorry this wasn't live because i know how bad he wanted to come on and talk about it um but he is fascinated with sasquatch so he was he was all over it um when i told the story and my mom was just like hey that's really interesting like i don't know i don't know what you saw but maybe maybe you did see a sasquatch you know so yeah uh they were they were definitely open to it especially my dad and little brother uh which made me happy you know i was worried that maybe i was just losing my mind but uh after kind of talking to them and figuring things out like hey i think i saw what i saw you know i'm glad they all responded so well i just wish it was that way all the time you laid eyes on one what do you think sasquatch are nick i that's such a tough question you know um the body from what it looked like to me You know, I've spent time in Alaska and I saw I've seen polar bears up there and the body of it, at least. Looks like if you were to combine kind of the stature of polar bear, the color and size of a grizzly and the features of like a person, if that makes sense. I really hope the picture I'm painting is what I actually mean to say. but it was just the face though that's when i knew you know because i've seen plenty of bears and every time it's sort of the same thing yeah this one looked a lot more built and a lot bigger than most grizzlies but the face when it turned and i could see i just i knew like this could not be a bear it looked it had a much more you know distinct face compared to really any other animal I've seen, you know, like you can tell, Hey, that is a hundred percent elk. That is a mule deer. That's a white tail. That's, you know, everything, most animals you can tell off the off rip. As soon as I saw this one, there was no way I knew like that looks way too human, but something isn't right. And I know there's no, there's no humans that big, that muscly who were crawling around on all fours, you know, outside of Great Falls, Montana. But it was a really interesting sighting. Oh, I'm sure it was. And you saw a Sasquatch. That's all there is to it. It sounded like in some ways you weren't too sure, you weren't convinced. But as I've listened to you talk, it sounds like you definitely know. And that's a good thing. Is there anything you wish you would have done differently as that sighting was playing out? You know, I really wish if Nick right now could go back in time right to that moment, I wish I would have just sat there. And I've got this little magnet deal that goes on spotting scopes and binoculars and whatnot. And it allows you to take pictures and videos with your phone. Like you put your camera up to it and it clicks in and it does all this fancy stuff for you. if Nick right now could go back in time, I would go straight to that and I would set it up and I would just press record. And I was sat exactly right there, exactly where I saw it pointed right at the tree, you know, just to make sure, you know, just, I wish too, I could zoom in and just like recognize and understand the face more, uh, and get a better understanding. And I know it really was tough because of the snow, but still, I mean, there was so much evidence that points towards it being a Sasquatch. There's no other way around it. You know, I wish I could have gotten a video or a picture or even just relive the moment if I could do it again. shoulda coulda woulda you know what they say about that i just hope you have another chance to see one so that you can make sure you handle things in a way that you're not going to look back on and have regrets but i guess time will tell on that having said that nick i can't thank you enough for coming on and share the details of that experience with us i really appreciate it yeah thanks for having me on vick it's uh it's a pleasure to talk about it you know i'm not the greatest storyteller, especially over the phone. But I mean, I wish that I could give the audience a much more clear view. I wish they could just see through my eyes and see what I did, because I'm telling you what, I will not forget that for the rest of my life. And I can't thank you enough for letting me share my experience. Oh, glad to give you a platform. And you definitely didn't leave us wanting. You should be proud of the job you did telling us about that sighting. I'm impressed. But having said that, thanks again so much for your time and have a great night.
