Insights
  • Authenticity and personal storytelling are key differentiators in a saturated market with 2.5M+ aspiring hip-hop artists competing for attention
  • Mental health and spiritual practices (prayer, family support) are foundational to sustaining motivation in a high-pressure, low-success-rate industry
  • Social media presence and consistent content posting (minimum daily) are non-negotiable for independent artists to build fan bases and compete with AI-generated music
  • Building a professional team (management, legal, distribution) is critical for independent artists to scale beyond DIY efforts and secure royalties
  • Local support is mixed but essential; artists must cultivate grassroots fanbases while maintaining resilience against lack of support from close circles

Yeah, the secret right now, we are locked in to the Bidding Wars podcast coming to you live right now from the studios of 99.78 Miami, officially a part of the iHeartRadio family. The Bidding Wars podcast is special because we interview some of the most dynamic upcoming independent artists in the game. Independent artists truly are a gem. Here is why. They create music and content from such a unique and raw place in their life. And the great thing about this platform is that they put themselves in a position where their voices can be heard on a larger level. And they shake up the game with their thoughts. And today is no different. You know, I've been doing this for a long time and I never get tired of interviewing artists that are the future because their voices shape pop culture. The way that they interact in this game and the way that they create lyrics that really make people think about this world in a completely different way. So again, I'm so excited to be speaking with another young bull, another young artist representing Generations D, which is Active Ron. Active Ron, welcome to the podcast. Active Ron, welcome to the podcast, brother. Oh, yeah, man. Thank you. Thank you, man. It's a blessing. It's a blessing. Yeah. Yeah. Ron, are you having, as far as mic issues, because there's a delay there. Nah, no. No, I don't think so. Nah, no. All right. Great. All right. So we're going to tap into it. Hey DeVon you're in a game where less than 5% of people actually make it There is a lot of pressure There are no guarantees You have to invest a lot of money a lot of time You have to be very patient with this process Do you believe you can make your dreams come true in this music game Even with all of the obstacles in front of you Because I'm honestly I just feel like I'm just different as an artist, as a person, my grind, I don't give up on myself. Once I feel once, I find a way to overcome that obstacle. That's one thing about me, is I'm going to always overcome, and I'm going to always keep going, and I'm going to never give up on myself. I got you on that part, but I want you to go a little bit deeper in that, Active Ron, and here is why. Talk about the uniqueness in your music and in your personality, because when you're in a race with, there's over 2.5 million people trying to make it in hip-hop right now. So when you think about how big the race is, tell the audience about some of the things that make you unique. My voice, I feel like the way I come on to the beat every time I'm telling a real story that I done been through or that I done went through, and you know, a lot of people can relate to that, and like my voice is just different, like my voice unique, just different. My talent, the way I interpret my lyrics, I use big lyrics, like my words. I don't just say anything. So, you know, everybody's saying I'm saying something different. Like every song you're going to hear something different. It's just different. What I'm saying every song, I'm just I'm just I'm speaking from the heart. Let's speak on that difference for a minute. What are some of the subject matters that you're talking about or what are some of the things that you discuss in your music because your music genre is hip-hop so what are some of the things that you are discussing in your music that's there i say more like on the pain side deep stories i done been through ron like morally about things i done went through things people can relate to my music all right people give us a second active ron be right back he just must have lost internet connection real quick he should be coming right back into the room hello hello all right people we're back right now we got active ron back in the building so active ron what i was asking you was this describe to the bidding wars audience just the things that you are talking about that make you different the story I got behind every single song I touch every song I get behind it's a different story that I done been through and I know how to interpret my words I use big words every time different words the way I put them I'm always describing a deep story that I done been through something that a lot of other people can relate to especially my generation just different overall the way I come on to the beat the way I flow my fast flow i could go from fast i could go from slow i can't i can't make my songs any type of way i want them to sound like they just different would you still having that same flow of active rhyme i want to ask you this a lot of artists you know they rap about fantasies in their lyrics they rap about how many cars they have how much money they have they really they rarely ever speak about the reality. How much of your real life is inside your music? All my music is nothing but my reality. That's all I talk about is my reality, my come up, how I'm going to come up. If I am talking about a fantasy, it's talking about how I'm going to get to that fantasy. It's talking about how I'm going to achieve that goal. I want you to break down to the Bidding Walls audience this. Explain your process of creation. Like when you are talking about a record, like for instance, take your record, made it out break down the origin of that song like what's the theme of it give us some background information on it and who is that song who was that song made it out that's a song i say basically it's kind of self-explanatory in the song made it out about a young kid going through a lot of obstacles trying to overcome making it out from where he come from throughout that could be anywhere even if it's not the hood just from you making it out an obstacle making it out of love making it out of trauma making it out from people you don't like surround you just making it out that's really the main theme of that whole song is overcoming to make it out make it out of what which part you trying to make it out of where you come from to a better place to a better future Let me ask you this. Mental health is very important in the world. You hear more and more people talking about it. How important in your mind is having strong mental health? It's very important because you won't get nowhere without having a strong mental health. If you don't got a strong mental health, then you ain't going to really be able to overcome a lot of things. So your mental needs to be the most important thing in life. And what are some of the things that you do to protect your mental health? The most main important thing I do first and foremost is I pray. I pray. Second, I talk to my mama a lot. Help me get my mental right. That's really the two things I really do. I pray and I talk to my mama. I have long talks with my mama. Every time I'm going through something to get my head balanced, I call my mama. I talk to my mama. I like to talk to my mama a lot. She helped me overcome a lot of things that I go through in the moment. That's really how I really overcome a lot of things. Because I talk to my mama and I know I'm pushing for her. I'm trying to make it out. I'm trying to do this. I really know this. I've been telling her I'm going to do this for the longest. So when you're right. So when you're and that's highly respectable. But when you by yourself and it just you and no mom is around like what are some things you know what do you lean on Like meditation wise do you meditate so you can kind of form your own conclusion about certain things Like what are some things that you do to like so you can understand what's going on for yourself? I pray. I pray to God. That's really that's really the only answer I got for that is I pray. God give me through it every single time. God ain't never let me down. That's the most thing I do to keep my mental health right. I talk to God. I pray. I pray. That's my meditation. That's how I get right. I pray. What city and state do you represent? Cincinnati, Ohio at 513. Cincinnati, Ohio. I want you to break down to the Bed and Woods audience. How have people responded locally to your music? In Cincinnati, I get a lot of respect. But, of course, I get a lot of hatred, too. It's a lot of people that don't support you. Even the closest ones tell you, your own friends not posting your music, your own family not posting your music, your own people's not supporting what you do. But then again, you got people from your city that's going to support you, too, as of everywhere. So I say Cincinnati is support. It's support here and there. There's people here that support me in my own city for sure. I definitely get a lot of support, a lot of support. But then again, some people don't acknowledge it. Let me ask you this. When you think about the music game, as far as being on stage, holding that microphone, crowd going crazy, right? Explain how that moment will make you feel once you get you on stage, holding the microphone, people screaming, reciting your song all out loud. Like, break down that part. I'm going to definitely feel more motivated than I ever felt. Don't get me wrong. I'm the most motivated right now as I could be. But once I get back, a big crowd really supporting, really showing love, really acknowledging, appreciating what I'm doing because I love it and they really enjoying what I'm doing. That's going to be a different type of level of motivation right there. And I'm going to just keep going harder and harder. Until eventually I sell out crowd and mo crowd and keep selling out crowd and don't stop. Until that stage get bigger. Until that crowd get bigger. until that audience get bigger, until that fan base get bigger. I got you. With the rise of technology and artificial intelligence, i.e. AI, you know, now it's like so easy for the labels to create music and do so many things with the artists. So having a fan base is so important. With social media being as the main hub, are you willing, first of all, how do you feel about social media? I honestly, I gotta care for it because I'm an artist at the end of the day. I can sit here and say I don't care for social media, but I got to. Because at the end of the day, that's the only way I'm gonna get out here. Like you said, this world runs on social media. So without social media, I couldn't even be out there. So social media is very important to me, for sure. I make sure I gotta post once a day at least a song. I gotta keep posting. I have to. So social media is very important to me. Very important. With that being said, are you willing to dedicate the time, you know, one hour, two hours, even three hours a day to interact with people? Because having a fan base is so important when you have so many bots and fake stuff out there. Yeah, sure. Sure. Of course. I'm definitely willing to communicate with people from two to three hours. Of course. I'm willing to do that. Yeah, of course. What is one thing about you that you feel is an advantage for you What one quality about you that you feel My style my flow my style my style me my style my style for sure my style my story think my story my story Definitely. I want to go into this part here, Aikha Ron. When you, as far as I'm from a business perspective, what are some of the things that you want to get accomplished next year? Because, you know, this year we're already about in September, but what are some things that you want to accomplish? shit in itself. I want to have people playing my music on a daily basis. I want my music to be played every day on a daily basis. I want my music to be able to be an outlet for people. I want my music to for sure be an outlet for people. Definitely. Let me ask you this. Right now, you rocking with Radio Pushers. We're honored to be in partnership with you. You have a team around you to help you create your LLC. We can help you with your tax ID number. We'll help you set up your copyrights and your distribution and make sure you go your royalties so you can be your own publishing company how important is it to have a team around active run it's very important because without a team you won't really get i'll really get that push i mean at the end of the day you can try to do it all yourself but really without a team you won't be able to grow you won't really be able to prosper so you really need a team so it's very important and i very appreciate that I'm working with y'all for sure. It's definitely helping me get out there. So without a team, you really can't prosper. You really can't get to where you want to go. So it's very important. Definitely. Spell out your artist name loud and phonetically. Spell out letter for letter so people can stream you on all the platforms. How is your artist name spelled on the streaming platforms?
