! TABLA NEXA to Lee's Summit! You're listening to Mundo in the Morning on 957 FM, KCMO Talk Radio! 6.52, good morning, great to have you here on KCMO 957 FM! It's time for the 6 at 6 on KCMO Talk Radio! Well, we'll start off with number one. The President's speech last night, it was a lot of what we've already heard, claiming that the war in Iran is nearing completion, projecting another two or three weeks of involvement. He signaled that the United States is prepared to intensify its military operation and threatened to take Iran, quote, back to the Stone Ages, end quote. So Iran's military has since responded, dismissing Trump's claim that four weeks of attacks have left it weakened. Iran said in a statement, expect even more crushing, more extensive and destructive action from us. Oil prices not reacting well. They jumped last night, right as the President was delivering his speech, from $97 to $102 a barrel. As of this morning, we are up to $110 a barrel. So up 10% during the overnight hours. We'll see how things open up later this morning. Markets, of course, open up at 8.30 central time. Number two, next up some breaking news here. The Senate this morning unanimously approved a bill aimed at partially reopening the Department of Homeland Security, which leaves out funding for immigration enforcement and border patrol. The measure now goes back to the House, which last week declined to take it up in favor of a different funding bill. House Republican leaders are expected to take up the measure this time after reaching an agreement with Senate Majority Leader John Thune to pursue a larger bill this spring that will include spending for the President's immigration and border agenda. It's not clear when the White House will vote or when the House will vote. Both chambers are out on a two week recess, but have been convening brief pro forma sessions. So this move is a step towards potentially ending the ongoing government shutdown. Number three, well we have a flood watch in place after all the rain we've got last night. That is in effect until one o'clock this afternoon. That is for basically all of the Metro on the Kansas side, Johnson, Leavenworth, Lynn, Miami, Wyandotte and on the Missouri side as well. So know that till one o'clock this afternoon, a flood watch is in place for the entire Kansas City region. And this could be flooding of Rivers Creek streams, another low lying and flood prone locations. So expect to be on the lookout for that. No flood warnings, just a flood watch until one o'clock this afternoon. Number four, next up, Oracle tens of thousands of layoffs yesterday announced by Oracle. And here in Kansas City, they are cutting more than 500 employees. And these are obviously some big time numbers. So the campus here in Kansas City is not closing Oracle said, but these layoffs are expected to be permanent. And these employees are set to leave their positions between May 26 and June 1. Positions being cut range from administrative assistance to sales representatives to IT directors. Some of the largest cuts were to software developers who made up nearly 100 of the total employees laid off. The company has declined to comment on the layoffs here in Kansas City. Number five, well, I know many of you texted last night or dropped a note on my Facebook page saying that you missed the president's speech because you are watching this wild Royals game last night. 13 to 9 win over the twins as the Royals improved to 3 and 2 on the season. Jonathan India hit a grand slam drove in five runs. Oh my goodness, Kyle Isabel went 4 for 4 with a home run. Noah Cameron pitched five solid innings to win his season debut. So the Royals were 7 for 16 with runners in scoring position and they scored eight runs with two outs. Did they score eight runs with two outs all season last year? That's unbelievable. Probably not. Probably not, right? A seven run bottom of the sixth inning. I mean, you know, the bullpen wasn't any good, but let's focus on the win, right? Let's enjoy 13 runs being scored by the Kansas City Royals last night as they beat the twins. 13 to 9. Series wraps up today. 110 first pitch. Cole Reagan's on the mound for Kansas City against the 1-4 Minnesota twins. Number 6. And lastly in the 6-6, Bill Self says he's coming back to KU. But is he coming back to coach? That wasn't clear to me. The statement last night from Bill Self reads as follows. Jayhawk Nation with renewed clarity and the ongoing support from our administration, I remain focused and committed to Kansas basketball competing for a national championship. I look forward to seeing and hearing the best fans in college basketball next season at Allen Fieldhouse. Bill Self did not say he was coming back to coach. I mean, all the local news, Bill Self back on the sidelines next season. He didn't say that. I thought that was interesting. He's just like, I will be at KU in some capacity next year. That's all Bill Self said. And I mean, media is running around this town this morning. Bill Self's coming back. He really didn't say that. I thought there were more questions than answers coming out of the statement last night. So we'll see. There's your 6 at 6 on KCMO Talk Radio. Hey there. I'm Paula Pan. I help people make the smartest money decisions possible. Joe, you know what's been great about being a saver? More money in the bank. And that money over the past couple of years has made a pretty good yield. Pre-pandemic, money was making zero. Now it's actually making something, but that's starting to go down, down, down. I love how we can play the fact that inflation's been really high as a positive. But if you're a saver, you know what that means? Cha-ching. So relining, Joe. So relining. Afford anything. Follow and listen on your favorite platform. The bottom of inflation is actually good. 2% is what you're going for. Why is everybody freaking out? Oh, because it's the fallout. People don't track their budget. You have this slow slipping that happens every month. To all of a sudden you go, man, I don't have any money. The reason is now two people go to a restaurant. The bill is 60 bucks for two. Two guys walking to a restaurant. They start screaming. It's hilarious. $60. Stacking Benjamins. Follow and listen on your favorite platform.
