Bill O'Reilly here. You are listening to the weekend edition of the O'Reilly Update. Coming up next, the news with Mike Slater. Thanks, Bill. Here's what's happening this week in America. Timeline given. State of the Union Tuesday. Aliens out of the bag. And a great Olympics update. That's all coming up. Then Bill's going to be here with your message of the day. But first, the president warned Tehran that they have a maximum of 15 days to reach a deal with the United States. or quote, bad things will happen. On his way to Georgia, the president said, we're either going to get a deal or it's going to be unfortunate for them. The president did not say if the intention of the strike is to damage their nuclear program or to topple the regime completely. But Iran is just coming off another round of protests inside their country, which resulted in tens of thousands of protesters killed. Even Iran admits that over 3,000 people were killed, some human rights groups suggesting that number is closer to 30,000. The president will give his State of the Union address on Tuesday night. Several Democrat congresspeople have said they will not attend. Very brave. More details next week on the speech, of course, but the best the Democrats could put together for their rebuttal is the new Virginia governor, Abigail Spanberger. She said, we're at a defining moment in our nation's history. Virginians and Americans across the country are contending with rising costs, chaos in their communities, and a real fear of what each day might bring. The new governor, just a couple weeks in office, among the tax increases she's proposed, landscaping tax, tax on storage facilities, gym memberships, dog walking, dog grooming, vehicle repairs, home repairs, dry cleaning, and a tax on electric leaf blowers. This is all after running on making life more affordable. Here's the timeline of this story. Barack Obama said on a podcast last week about aliens, like outer space aliens. He said they're real, but I haven't seen them. He later clarified, I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really? Well, Trump was asked about this on Air Force One. He said, I don't know if they're real or not, but I can tell you he gave out classified information. But Trump later wrote on Truth Social, based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War to begin the process of identifying and releasing government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life and any and all information connected to these highly complex but extremely interesting and important matters God bless America God bless America Indeed in a great day for Team USA Alyssa Liu won the gold medal in women figure skating First American woman to win the gold since 2002 How can that be? Our speed skater champion Jordan Stoltz. He won the silver to go with his two previous golds, this time in the 1500. And he has one more chance to get gold on Saturday. And of course, Team USA women's hockey, this whole tournament, 33 goals for, only two against, wrapping up with a 2-1 win against Canada in overtime for the gold. Bill O'Reilly has your message of the day. Next. Time now for the O'Reilly Update message of the day. Barack Obama and Gavin Newsom are simpatico on the homeless problem. The government owes street people safe dwellings. That's what the men believe. In order to achieve that, California spent approximately $30 billion over the past five years to house people. It has not worked. Around 200,000 individuals remain on the streets, almost all of them substance abusers or mentally ill, often both. While in San Francisco over Super Bowl weekend, I found out exactly what's going on by talking to the addicts themselves. Often state housing is too dangerous, they say. There is no drug testing to get a place. Little security in the buildings. And that allows violent pushers to run the state facilities. A California audit reached this conclusion, quote, there is no reliable data to track expenditures on free housing. So it's chaos. Politicians almost always exaggerate reality, especially when policies fail. Governor Newsom says homelessness in California is down 9 percent. But how would he know? The situation is chaotic. People go where the drugs are. $30 billion is a colossal amount of taxpayer money, especially when thousands remain on the street. I'm Bill O'Reilly. I approve the message by writing it. You can reach me, bill at billoreilly bill at billoreilly Name in town if you wish to opine Now let go to the mail John Schramko Hicks in Tennessee Bill I watched Secretary Rubio speech in Munich Thought it was excellent. My question is, why was Hillary there? Because it was a private conference. She was invited. There wasn't a government-run anything. It was just confab. It was like the Switzerland thing. It was a security conference. Scott Steele, Springfield, Tennessee. Can you explain why President Trump feels a need to strangle the Cuban economy? As far as I'm aware, Cuba has no military threat to the USA. Well, how about the human rights violations over there? How about we have millions of Cuban Americans here who have relatives back there getting killed and hammered? I mean, that's a pretty tough thing 90 miles away. John Flam, Sparks, Nevada. Why are governors from California and Michigan attending conferences undermining the current administration? Isn't this a violation of the Logan Act? No, they're invited. They can go wherever they want. They're Americans. That's no Logan Act. They're not negotiating anything. They're free people. Wendy Weber, Champaign, Illinois. Can you explain why Mitch McConnell is voting against the SAVE Act? If I could explain Mitch McConnell, Wendy, I think I'd get the Nobel Peace Prize. He's the guy who killed literally Kate's Law. I mean, this is a guy who should have retired a long time ago. He's got some stupid excuse, but boy, oh boy, I hope he retires. Thomas Harmon, Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Hey, Bill, do you think President Trump would get behind an initiative to balance the budget? No, I do not. He's a spender. All right. Always has been, always will be. In a moment, something you might not know. Now the O'Reilly update brings you something you might not know. Now, 117 years ago, a Native American warrior who resisted American expansion died of pneumonia. His name will go down in history as one of the greatest leaders of all time. Here is the story of Geronimo. The young Apache was given the birth name Goyacla meaning he who yawns As a teenager his tribe of 8 Indians were fighting Mexicans to the south Americans to the north Comanches and Navajos to the east and west Non violence The boy soon earned the name Geronimo. Legend states the moniker began when terrified Mexican soldiers screamed for St. Jerome when facing the Apache in battle. Personal tragedy shaped Geronimo's lifelong hatred for non-natives. While away on a trading expedition, foreign soldiers attacked his family, killing his mother, wife, and their three children. Seeking revenge, Geronimo launched vicious campaigns against Mexican and American settlers. In 1874, the U.S. government ordered the Apaches to move from their land in Arizona to an Indian reservation. Geronimo refused. Over the next decade, he battled federal troops and launched raids on white settlements. September 1886, the Apache leader and his band of 200 fighters surrendered to the American army. The Indian Wars of the Southwest were essentially over. Geronimo was then dispatched first to Florida, then Alabama, finally Oklahoma. There he converted to Christianity, spent his final years as a farmer. He died on February 17th, 1909, at the age of 79. And here's something else you might not know. Today, Geronimo is synonymous with bravery on the battlefield. During World War II, American parachutists yelled the name when jumping out of planes. In May 2011, Geronimo was a military code for the capture or death of Osama bin Laden.
