Icebound | Ep. 41 | She Was Wrath

Welcome to Legends of Avantris. I'm Derek Hudson and you're listening to Icebound. You stand at the edge of the biting bastion, staring out at Argent Home. All around you is surrounded by the smoke, the eruptions of explosions, the sound of clashing metal screams. War is in every direction as the entire city is plunged into chaos and violence and wrath. But it's hard to stare at those smaller conflicts when the epic clash between the demon prince of wrath, Kostka Chee, and the princess of wrath is right there before you. Just across the bridge, about halfway down that long stone bridge that connects the biting bastion, this island fortress surrounded by a frozen lake within the center of Argent Home is a massive ancient white dragon clashes with the malformed giant wielding his huge war hammer, smashing into each other. The four of you stand there at the edge watching this epic battle. What happens next is up to you, but you continue to watch as you see the princess and Kostka Chee slam, bite, hit, and pummel one another. It's hard to tell who's getting the most hurt, who may be getting the most fatigued. You watch as Kostka Chee reaches around the dragon's neck and begins to choke her, slamming her body down again and again into the stone and pulling her up, almost seeming to twist or break her neck. The only way she can escape is to transform. She bamps out of her dragon form, dropping down to the ground, running around her and returning to her dragon form, clawing up his back as they continue to wrestle and slam into each other. The princess having shifted into her humanoid form escapes this grapple and lunges onto his back. Kostka Chee hurls himself into the air, crashing onto his back, slamming the princess down between his body and the bridge. All at once, aid arrives for the princess. Some of the few members who have been able to keep their heads, fly down, allies to the princess, attempting to help those that they serve so loyally, a group of the ivory clutch, they get a little too close. Kostka Chee grabs one in midair and just slams the creature against the body of the princess, who explodes into viscera, clearly wounding the dragon, who explodes like an engorged mosquito. Kostka Chee roars and the soldiers themselves spin in the air as they turn on each other, suddenly filled with the wrathful emanation, this wrathful presence of Kostka Chee. You four stand there watching this violence, this fight. You can't hear their voices. All you hear are grunts and roars and screams and what do you do next? I am leading the charge, screaming, but I would love to, if it's possible, as I've said some cool ass shit and I'm leading my friends for perhaps the final fight of our lives, I would love to at least try to get some sort of opportunity knowing, killing sea monsters for much of my life, understanding that when their visibility is low or when you're out of their blind spot, trying to at least for our first strike, for us joining the fray to be a very impactful one, to be unseen, to then lunge out and try to hit a point for me to try to climb onto the princess's back, injure her in some way, for all of us to be able to do that. That is my intention as I'm leading that. I don't know what everyone else is doing. You are racing out from the center ward of the Biting Bastion. You are crossing the threshold of this massive gate and beginning to cross the bridge. It's probably a few hundred feet from where you are, where the actual battle is happening. It's this massive, wide stone bridge. There are pylons that sort of dot either side. It holds forgotten statues of the Silver Dominion. You're waiting for that opportunity. Do you wait until perhaps one has the upper hand? Do you get closer? Do you try to sneak forward? You are very much in the lead, but before you can get much farther out onto the bridge, you hear this whump, this sound of crashing and a body slams down next to you. You see two figures peeking out and over, surely enough you see the face of Daisy and Ketrastine staring down at you, having felled one of these Goliaths. Daisy waves. Hi, young lady! Rage! Kill them all! Every last one of them is standing our way! Trying to put an end to all this! It weren't the end of us! It matters not, but it will end! I'm just going to basically try to get the high ground and leap to these fuckers. I'm just charging in. I'm not waiting anymore. You hear the voice of Ketrastine. The battle is too much. You must wait until you have time to strike. The city is falling to chaos. To rage! The time of rage is the time to strike! The time is now! You're welcome here or you can run! Matter is not to me! I'm Barnabos! Fuck that! We're going in! Let's go! I've got the brutal blade in two hands and I'm running behind Barnabos trying to keep up, filled with renewed strength and fire, seeing Daisy and all this amazing stuff that's going on. The two allies watch as you all race away and down the bridge. You don't get a moment to exchange more than just a few words as you've done. They aren't looking 100%. They both look a little rough, probably having engaged in some of the fights with Cobolds or as you might imagine one of these goliaths just now. But you're still freshly wounded from what happened at the top of the Viting Bastion and you are racing forward. I'll turn to Ket and I'll just say I follow my chieftain and I'll turn and I will follow behind if we're running in. You hear a voice but it's impossible to catch Ketrastine making a comment to Daisy. I'm locked in with Barnabos. He sounded the war cry before we even hit the bridge. We're charging. It takes a number of bounds. Keeping up with Barnabos as you continue to race across this flat stone bridge which is shaking from the conflict, the combat that is happening before you. You watch as the princess takes a hard hit to the face from Koskache's Warhammer who is visibly stunned by the powerful blow. She turns and spits in Koskache's face. His entire head is hit with snow and then emerges this massive orb of ice. You've seen this once before. This is not the size of the ice that killed the captain. This is a whole helmet of ice the size of a boulder that is surrounding this massive giant's head. He reaches up to smash it with his Warhammer but she has gotten the advantage. She bites down onto his wrist and his Warhammer falls to his side. He immediately begins to suffocate. You are continuing to race forward trying to close the distance as quickly as you can. The princess bites down again and it's enough. She is able to free herself. As he continues to stumble, pummeling his own head, pummeling his own face, trying to free himself from this icy prison so that he can breathe again. The princess swoops around and finally gets enough leverage. She pulls up her back legs grabbing the front of his chest and driving him into one of these pylons. You watch as the silver statue of one of these ancient silver dragonborn drives its way into the back of this great demon prince and impales him. Pushes through and out his stomach. Out through his chest. You imagine that he must be screaming but you hear no roar. Damn. Coscochee continues to grapple both at his head. He is able to finally break free and you hear the few choking gasps of this demon prince. But the statue is too slick with blood. He tries to pull himself off dropping and falling limp. Hanging off the side of this massive bridge and the princess roars in triumph. Holy hell! I'm running but like I'm screaming. I mean this is insane. What is happening? We both had like stopper sign. Hey that's one down runs! This is it! This is our moment to fight! This is easy half the battle before she can rally. You finally make and close the distance and she turns. You! I am free! Kastan is dead! Don't get in my way. Is it clear that you are not stopping? That there is a fight at hand? Yes I would say absolutely. I am falling barbunny. Words are nothing but wind at this point. You ride the rush of emotion, the rush of vengeance in your heart and you fly into not literally but metaphorically. You have the energy of flying as you crash into the princess I need to ever in a role for initiative. I think I have an advantage on these. You are. Not great. Not bad. Not bad. Not a bad stat. I don't think I have to make a little map here. But thank you. That's very kind. I got to learn all of my features. We've already leveled up. If you have a new feature from leveling up. Because mine is very good. I got 6th level spells and I prepared one. I have one too. Scrim probably out of the deals. You are ready to flanks? Yeah, we'll be kind of like here. I would say that the massive body of Kaskachi is still on the pylon closest to Richie on the other side of the bridge. Why don't you go ahead and put down the Sturken. What? Right next to us? What? Are you kidding? You said right in front of us? Probably like way back here. You can count out 5 squares and she's 5 squares. Right there. Yeah, perfect. You're a bridge to do this right? Yeah, you got it. Oh. Alright guys. We're in a little bit of trouble. Oh man. That's a big dragon. It is a big dragon. You watch as she roars and rears up taking her full height standing tall. Her massive wings stretch out from either side of you. As you approach it's already frigid in the air but getting this close to her in her full fury and the blood frenzy that she's just experienced. It is bitterly cold. Your hands, your face, your eyes go numb as you get within the emanation of this massive ancient white dragon. I need everyone to tell me what initiatives you all got. 20 to 30. Not this guy. No way. 20 to 30? 20. 15 to 20? 19. I think she's probably the strongest. Yes, she goes first. 10 to 15? Me, I got a 12. 9. Okay. Good for you. Is that one? Oh my God. Oh my God, I do get spider flying in the future. Oh, that was wrong. Let me just quickly just double check something. That was crazy. Great job, Dan Dillon on the Beast Barbarian. It's just going to just play out and it is a couple hundred feet down to the frozen lake below. This is a very, very, very tall bridge and he's just being blown in the wind. All right. Thank you for your initiatives. At the top of the round, there is a massive explosion, for lack of a better word, a burst of coal that waves out from the princess. I need everyone to make a constitution saving throw. Yes. Sure. It's probably a pretty high save. The DC is 20. Con save? 19. 15. 18, I just missed it. 19. Oh, I have it here. So much for starting off with full on. All your frozen plates. Does this have to do with being chilly? It does have, it is cold coming. Oh. Do I get advantage on that? It depends on what it is. I'm trying to see if I have... You might have like a dangerous thing if you could see it coming. It's Dex. I got a 17. The princess roars and you see this wave coming before it hits you. You will not! You get hit. Sure enough, icicles literally form as you try to push in. Everyone's speed is reduced to zero as you are encrusted in ice. And you take 14 cold damage as you are hit with this massive attack. Arnav, you're up. How long is my speed? The end of your next turn, which is now, so until the end of this turn. Okay. Great. We can't move! This is fine, I have a plan. I am going to... I always have a plan. I will say... You got to stop me that easily, beastie! I've got a good arm as I'm going to reach in. As I've done before, I'm going to grab my harpoon. I'm going to grab the one with the rope on it. I'm going to try to throw it at her. Okay. I'm going to do it... Let's see... That is a 19 to hit. And presumably, the rope is attached. You watch as this javelin sails forward and catches through one of the more muscular parts of the wing. She continues to move and it waves back and forth, but you're able to keep a strong grip on the other end. And I would say that you are effectively anchored. Or you are the anchor to the Princess of Wrath. That's badass. I am going to... I'll use my... I'll use my second attack. As you are moving, the sound of the encrusted ice around you is breaking and falling to the ground. It almost sounds like a tinkling broken glass hitting the stone all around you as you are freeing yourself, pushing forward to try to reach her, but you throw again. And it goes wide. It goes wide. I'm trying to hold on. Yes. It's a lot of fire. You're flying away! We just got blasted. Okay. Let me just see what she's up to. Nothing. If what it's worth, get her out of here. I have the Weapon Master's property of slow. Oh! Speed is reduced by 10 until it's started my next turn. Okay. Okay. That... That'll do. That matters. It might matter. Taishan, you can go ahead. She's shocked by this blow and trying to decide if she wants to free it from her arm or just eat all and annihilate all of you. I will shout out as we're running off and the battle's launching off. Princess! You have ruled too long under a bloody claw! You have tortured, you have killed, and you have taken from us something we will never forgive! You think you know wrath? Let me show you mine! Hell yeah! I will invoke the might of Fujiao. Well that gave me inspiration. Hell yeah! I wear five bands on my body, four representing the winds similar to the Dragon Glass Deep Bottle, and the band in my hair. I will activate my, as a bonus action, my innate sorcery feature, and the bands will expand off of me, releasing out, begin to circle and move behind me. It's cool, isn't it? I can follow this. Then, both my fists, one will erupt with a red flame and the other with a gold until those begin to circle me as well. It almost looks like they're swarming as they move around and they start to move with me. And then, you mentioned Kaskachi was impaled on a, what looks like a statue of a, like a silver dragonborn, like pretty big? Yeah, some of the pylons are just reduced to broken stone and rumble. Others, you see a foot. This was one of the few statues where there was clearly like some sort of ambassador or emissary or some sort of military figure who's mostly whole. And it's still upright, even though Kaskachi has slid down to the feet of this statue. Is it mechanically, would you call it huge? His Kaskachi's body? No, the statue. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Presumably Kaskachi's very mature as well. Yeah, yeah, I find that the thing he's like pierced on. Yeah, he's, I would say that it would be huge in a vertical sense, right? It's not super girthy and round, right? But like, it's got, it's got length. Yeah, yeah, yeah, got you. As I'm erupting into this, the bands are coming off of me. The one in my hair releases and it begins, my hair goes free-flowing and begins to swirl behind me downwards. I will cast out the golden flame that's circling me towards the, towards the statue that is impaling Kaskachi. And I will cast animate objects at a fifth level. And I'd like to animate the statue as huge. And for cool, what I'd like it to do is I'd like the golden flame to enter the statue, break it open and have it become almost like a golden dragon wearing silver armor. Just, you know. You should let me go first. People don't like to show off unless what you're showing off is dope as fuck. That's pretty good. You were in cabinet up to here. You channel the power of Fuzhao, feeling energized in a way that you never felt. The rush of battle, the rush of this moment, the rush of what has happened to your friend, all flowing through you and you pour this almost like molten metal, the fire starts to ripple down the figure, affecting just the skin, the hair of the hands, any exposed flesh beneath panels of silver armor. The union of what once was the silver dominion, so destroyed by the princess and Fuzhao, the golden dragon who is your progenitor, fuse and forge. And you watch all of you as all of a sudden this statue effectively comes to life. Hell yeah. And steps out of the body of Kaskachi. And how does all that work? What happens next? Effectively, it becomes a minion that will act for me, presumably after my turn. And that's been so my spell on my turn was animate objects to animate a huge... Yeah, absolutely. It should go right after you. It should probably here. And now, to move to... Yeah, he is huge. So, we've got to have another one of these bad boys. Get the donkey calling Amiibo. He creates a Caffeine Sentinel. Yeah, exactly. You're gone. I'm not holding back. I'm not holding back. I see that. I see that. I mean, I tapped you guys up. I tapped you guys up. Like three. It's actually kind of the same. He's shrubbed, man. How weird is he? He's shrubbed the toilet. Oh, really? I just was like, first, yeah. Am I not nearly as cool as you were? What are you looking for? That's bitching, bro. Okay. Yeah, these were once monuments to the height of the Silver Dominion Empire. An empire of creatures that ruled all of Dracar. And you watch as this majesty suddenly comes to life and jumps down onto the bridge below. I don't know if it had a weapon or something in it. I said it was military F. Yeah. So what does animated objects do in terms of damage? So it will, well, so it will, it brings it online. Basically, it will get a, it will have one hit. What type of damage does it do? I think, I think it's, oh, force damage. It does force damage. Oh, it does force damage. It does force damage. So, dealer's choice. That's insane. Yeah, hit force damage. I will say that the, it was carrying a spear, standing, looking very resolute. But as it is able to swing the spear around and begin to charge in, the tip of the spear glows both silver and gold with like a magical fire. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. As it charges forward towards the princess of wrath and lunges the blade forward and the tip ignites with this swirl of silver and gold. As it reaches out and tries, tries to pierce, we'll see. 16. 16. The A.C. is 19. Oh, I'll think that. I got to do it in the meantime. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's all right. Okay. So it misses and I think it just gets one attack, but it's on the field. I think that this is one of those rare instances where it doesn't hit because it would have tremendous damage. It simply stumbles into animation and lunges the blade going very close to the head. The lance of the dragon. Yeah, yeah. But like it goes from behind me. She senses it. She, she does this the last moment. But I'm fucking, I'm on, I'm ready to go. And I don't move because I don't obviously can't move. But you wanted to upcast. I don't know if you know what it does. You'll cast that spell. It'll add an extra D12 to it's attest to every lesson. And twin spell counts as upcasting as well. Just as an idea. Just so you know that you're the full. I forgot to have the full gamut, the full gamut of your, of your, of your class. I'm not fucking spelling. Cool, cool. That doesn't, I don't need a bonus action. It's twin spell. You can just use a weekend spell. There it is. Oh, twins. Oh, right, right, right. Oh, hell yeah. I'm going to spend one sorcery point and cast it at six level. Okay. Okay. Yep. Yeah. Hell yeah. She. Yeah. No, thank you. I'm so much fucking meta magic now. Is this effectively a creature now? Yeah, it's target of a, it's like a creature on the field. But it has bonus actions, reactions. It's like a, it should, it should, it only has an action, but I guess I don't know if it has like, If it doesn't have like a stat block. It does. It has a stat block. Well, it has like, you know, it should be able to take attacks of opportunity. That's the best. Yeah, it should be. I'm leaning towards it. If it can take attacks of opportunity, now's the time because the princess leaps forward in, in her fury and lands directly in front of Barnabos. Oh boy. Really? Yeah. I'll take, I'll take attack of opportunity. Hell yeah. It'll twist it. Five times seems crazy. I, I, I know. Yeah. He's only got 14. One, just one twist. Give him one twist. Oh. 24. Beautiful. All right. He is able to miss the first time, but comes around with a flashing blow and strikes against the unprotected back of the princess of wrath. Holy shit. And then what happens? She's about to take some force damage. No, I mean, like what's going to happen to us? That's a great question. Here, I got, I put the stat block in the chat. Oh, okay. Thank you. That's some blow. Thank you. Nice. Oh, I love the senses. That's so good. Plus three plus your spot. Wow. 1315 plus eight. 23 points of force damage. Hell yeah. Let's go. Very cool number that is. All right. The princess of wrath lunges forward and is able to make a swipe attack. She attacks and targets Barnabos for having gotten the jump on her. That's going to be a 25 to hit. That's a lot. 25. That will hit. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. 17 slashing damage plus seven cold damage hits you as you are. These massive talents come flying down and crash against you. And I'm just staying there. I knew you'd come to me, beastie. Time to die. She roars in your face. Scrim. I am trying to get my feet free because we're stuck. Fuck this. And I will raise up the brutal blade with one hand and I look back to the finger which is still wounded from the ritual that we did earlier when I put a little bit of blood on the ritual site. And I will basically say, okay, the contract's not fulfilled. You're not going to let me die yet. And I will run my finger along the blade as the blood that I leave on the blade begins to boil and smoke. And I will say, get your dinner. As I will cast my sixth level Mr. Garkanum, which is a summon feed. And I will attempt to summon Graveyard Jack, who is a large spectral hound. You'll hear this horrific bang of this creature initially far away. But then it comes closer and closer and closer until the creature materializes. That will be my whole turn and it will get to go directly after my turn. There's this... This all happens very quickly. As you run your finger along the blade, the barking starts off very quiet. It's almost impossible to make a distinction between the warfare that surrounds you. And you almost watch as in between buildings, hundreds of feet away, you watch as this smoke spirals through alleys and streets and through windows. Before all of a sudden, shoo! It zaps to your side and you suddenly, your mouth waters. And you have the taste of blood in your mouth all of a sudden. You look at the now enhanced Graveyard Jack, his ability is gorged. He has clearly been feeding on the combat in all directions. And with the sudden proximity of your bond being what it is, the taste of metal fills your mouth. As Graveyard Jack enters the fight. This creature has multi-attack. It gets to make a number of attacks equal to half the spells level. It's level six so it gets three attacks. The first attack that the beast will make is going to be a miss on the first one. But, every time it makes an attack, whether it hits or misses, it can blink 30 feet so it bursts into a puff of smoke. And then immediately reappears behind the princess attempting to find another open spot to take another attack. That's going to be a hit for sure. It'll do eight plus nine, 17 points of slashing damage as it gets burst into another cloud of smoke. And then reappears again on the flank of the dragon as it makes its third attack. Howling and slavering all along. That's going to be another hit. Shadow Stepping with no cooldown. Another 15 points of damage which is a total of 32 slashing damage. Oh no! I need a calculator. God dang it. Barnabos, Taishen, and Yornir you all notice that Scrim's breath has become ragged and more fierce. And you can see that I'm drooling a little bit. I'm burying my teeth as I'm trying to pull my feet free. And that is me and Graveyard Jackster. Awesome. It's right at rage! You are all raging and Graveyard Jack is more than happy to bite into this. It is wild to see such a massive creature get bit at so aggressively by such an incomparison small creature. But you can see pounds of flesh flying out and hitting the ground as Graveyard Jack able to make good work. Get him! Get him! Taishen, we're off for a block. Seriously. The beasts are off the leash. Give him the business one. With business! The shock and surprise and her recognition of what Graveyard Jack is, she's going to turn and she's going to target Graveyard Jack. Uh oh, it's okay. Oh wow. No, I think that's still good. 21 hit. Yeah, did I see a 18? Yep. That's going to be... 19 points of slashing damage and 9 cold damage. That's total of what? 20? 28? Okay. He's plenty alive. What is this? You hear the Princess of Wrath screaming. As he gets hit, it's like smoke kind of like puffs apart and then he kind of reconstitutes after taking a huge hit. Hell yeah. Let's go. Cool. I will bury each and every one of you beneath the ice. You're near. I'll remind you what happened to Queenie's honeypaw. I believe she had it on her as she was vaporized. Did it turn as snow as well? I would say that her inventory and her were all consumed by the ritual that processed her. I reflect on having the honeypot with me and at the time being unable to use it. No bees appeared when I opened it, when I gave it to her and her connection. But then I reflect on her sacrifice and the seed of summer that turned to winter. And I will... I'm frozen in place, presumably still, right? I will... It's a momentary freezing, right? Right, just so you can hear your turn. Once you move an arm, you're able to move an arm. But it takes a moment to unblock yourself. I'll remember what the seed felt like in my hand and the power and the connection of that realm. And I will look at the Princess and I will say, The hope of summer turns to the bitter bite of cold. The yew tree falls to frost, but the wheel of time takes its inevitable turn. And the holly tree falls to the wrath of summer. And I'm gonna lift my hand and you will hear a buzzing. It gets louder and louder and louder and a warmth that will radiate. For a little moment, our cold breath that you can see in the air will dissipate as a swarm of radiant spirit bees erupt from my hand. And then start to encircle her and take the form of a medium spirit. And if you will... Summon fire! A second, you can see the silhouette of a rabbit ear, maybe a sun hat, a bow, as it sort of coalesces. If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to represent it by this miniature here. As I cast Conjur-Fey. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. It is medium, but it's not a creature technically. And when it appears, I will just make sure the bees will swarm and attack the Princess of Wrath. Princess picked a bad fight, babe. We've been thinking about this for years. Yeah! 19 to hit. Hell yeah. That hits. Just hits. It deals... That's enough. Three. D-12. Points of damage, I will very poorly. What else is there? But, I seem to make sure that I have this up. Conjur-Fey. Three, 12. Plus my spell casting modifier. Six, seven, eight, nine, ten, 11, 12, 13, 14. Points of damage. Most importantly, she is now afraid of both me and the bees. Oh, wow. Where's she gonna go? She's stuck. She can be traifed. Good luck. Good luck. So, I will... Let's say the bees are there. There's your jazz come for that ass. And I still have a bonus action. I can't use the spell. I'm just real quickly make sure... I can't move. I can't move. That's what you're... Well played, dude. The princess is very quickly overwhelmed. She was already bloodied from her clash with Koskachi. And she is lashing out in all directions. Is this Swarm of Targetable creature, you think? Is this the North Atta representation? It is a medium weapon. It's a medium creature. Interesting. Does it have any of the points? What are you not trying to tell? I don't think so. You don't think it's in that? I don't know. But I don't know if she would know that. Right. But it says it is medium. If you wanna look it up. It's interesting. Let me just look at Rhetor. I literally never use that spell before. Contrafy? Yeah, contrafe. It's not like summon... Was that a summon fe? No, it's contrafe. Oh. It's different. She's like well fucked up and bleeding an arrow in the shoulder like you know, make sure she have dye on Do we think I mean I know the chains were like magically summoned from the war hammer Is it they look like we can just release her bum or it does look like by Merit of and it takes barnabos's great strength by tipping the More hammer itself. She would be able to uh, uh, finally unrestrain herself and free herself from from that magic Um, all I would say when I would look at barnabos and I would say Free her Hi Oh take one more puff and I'll put my uh, the shell away very gently and I will stand up and uh I'll look at her. Uh, the prince out the sigus I presume you know, what'll happen if you go back on those words Yes, of course. All right, and with one mighty heave, I push forward and try to push the hammer off and grab and basically undo the chains. The best I can, I'll keep her up. You keep her up, you tilt the war hammer. It is an impossible weight, and it takes you some fumbling, but eventually between her and you, she is able to break free. The chains don't remain. As soon as one link breaks, they evaporate in almost an inky, sudy magic that disappears instantly, leaving just the war hammer alone. And she stumbles, reaching up for a moment to pull the arrow out, and then meeting Daisy's gaze, she leaves it in. It's a fucking hardcore. Minutes later, contingents of Goliaths, the Ivory Clutch, other Kobolds would eventually cross the bridge from the Argent home side of the lake and meet her, meet with you, and you have to take stock, have to come to grip with what has happened on this day, not just your own personal consequences, the impact of what's happened, but what has happened to this most populous settlement, this city within Dracar. I think the way the story progresses from here is not to role play every little moment that you take going from the bridge, seeing the destruction, seeing what happened, meeting all the various peoples of Dracar, some who you've come to know as friends, even in the short time that you've spent in this civilized city, civilization for what you could, for lack of a better word, in the middle of the Decarian wilderness, but I think the way to progress here is to ask what happens over the next few hours over the rest of the day, perhaps days that you take. What I wanna solicit is, as you convey what's happened to Daisy and Cat, what you convey to the chieftains of the other tribes, what you convey to, checking in on the ogres, these sorts of things, I'm going to hand the reigns of narrative authority over to you and ask what do you do, what happens next is truly up to you as you come to rest after the climactic events of the day and process what has happened, finding rest, what do you prioritize in these first few hours and moments before getting back on the road, getting back on the path, getting on your pilgrimage towards fate, towards this responsibility, this duty that the gods have thrust upon your shoulders. Are we all making our way back to our... This would be over the course of the day or two. Yeah, well, what I would say the very first thing I do is basically talk to Daisy. I want the full download of what happened when she went out the window and I give her the full download of anything that she might have missed and just basically trade stories and get her up to speed and try to help her understand why we came to the decision that we came to having seen the confusion and hurt in her eyes much that Scrimm felt moments before. She has to repeat the story a number of times, different ways, asking the same kinds of questions, trying to process and understand. It's okay, the scourge index dates, but you know what I mean, like, oh, that's just like telling and trading stories. It doesn't take more than the first sit down for her to not be happy, but to be accepted of the nature of things. She didn't know about the events at the top of the mountain. She had no idea. She assumed, of course, just brutality, but with everything that she had experienced. I'm gonna break the news of Queenie. Breaking the news of Queenie. She had overheard that Queenie had died and assumed the worst when she listened in on the conversation from across the bridge, but knowing that it was her choice, knowing that there were these other powers involved, hearing you describe the voice on the wind, hearing the princess's reaction and having these sudden dramatic turns. She eventually comes to accept this truth and understands the decision that was made. She describes her own journey, very simply. She was thrust out of the window and assumed the very worst. In the final moments before she reached the bottom of the tower, she saw that there was a slope, but still made an effort to push herself using what she has learned in terms of nudging arrows and the psionic ability, trying to buffer her impact on the ground. And it was enough to almost completely negate the bludgeoning impact of hitting hard snow like that. She was dizzy, bewildered, and immediately started to make her way around the biting bastion, but couldn't make it back up to the tower in time, couldn't sneak in, couldn't ascend its walls. It's a fortress. Eventually, she came back into a cat who found her, and that's when everyone seemed to turn crazy. They had to fight together through the halls, looking for some sign of you. And when they heard the crashing of the clash between Koskachi and the Princess of Wrath, they headed towards the center ward, and that's where they, as they were making their way around the fortress wall, that's where they fought a goliath and eventually stumbled into you and watched you go off and do your heroic thing. Pretty unable to really contribute to the fight. They watched as the initial fight happened and the explosion of the bridge watched you fall, and once everything seemed to come to rest, they started to make their way across the bridge. That's the story that she shares with you about her moments after you were split up. I give her a few add-a-girls and way-to-goat kids, and that's that. I think, you know, maybe Tyshan and I would go to the chieftains and give a rousing speech. Oh, hell yeah. You know, trying to kind of convince them to come along to this and be okay with it. I think we're on even also to add, I think we would go in this vein of like, you know, not to forget the context of this whole place that broken out in like, rage-filled Madness War, and potentially like, we're also going to the chieftains, maybe like helping to set up like, heal people, golden flame, yourner, scaling abilities, kind of like helping to rebuild a little bit, as we're also bringing them to our side, explaining what's happening. Smooth this conversation. You go as kind of almost emissaries, ambassadors. The queen, the queen, the queen, queen, queen, wow. No longer the princess, Sigdis, is trying to receive for a moment as ruler to make sure that there's a framing, a messaging of sorts. She understands this is a very sensitive time and that she had acted very rationally, that she had had tremendous political cost. And so her loyal Goliaths, her loyal white kobolds, the ivory clush, they pull away into their districts, into the biting bastion. She herself needs a tremendous amount of rest, and once she collapses in her chambers, you don't see her again for quite some time, and you're almost left to your own devices to have these conversations, going to each chieftain, and having a come to the truth conversation. Come to the truth conversation. You meet with the orcs, you meet with the Minotars, you meet with the dwarves, you meet with the elves. You learn that there were not, that no one was unscathed. Everyone is giving themselves a little bit of, what's the word I'm looking for? Grace. Grace, thank you. Giving each other a little bit of grace, because they themselves felt that pull of anger in the presence of the terrible evil that was suddenly unleashed upon this land. And I think Yornir would, in these conversations, really lay it on thick, that man, it was really koskachi, like koskachi. Ah, just a little. You know that rage that you felt, she was feeling with that the whole time, and we broke it, and all this. I think we would tell them about the upcoming war, and like, hey, look guys. 100%. This shit's coming. You all need to get ready. We're almost trying to arm these people, not with weapons, but with knowledge, but like, hey, it ain't over yet. You know, like the final fight's just getting started. You were confronted by the fact that there were heavy losses, that Argent Home was already struggling, that the fact that they hadn't united previously meant that there's limited firewood. There's limited food. There's, winter may already be nearly over, but that doesn't mean that food is coming tomorrow. That doesn't mean that the trees are gonna regrow overnight. There is dire circumstances. You also learn when you reach the, and I can definitely remember because it's 1 a.m. in the morning. What a ham. The Shadow of Elkabal. Elder Night Bloom. The chieftain that you came to know was one of the fallen. Oh fuck. You do learn that a couple, the newlywed is now chieftain, and so you have your conversation with Akilah, the one who had been chosen to ascend to that position of chief. She is now the one. In your conversations, you have a suspicion that perhaps it was she who, in her rage, could not resist, but there's no way to know for sure what happened in those strange hours. You were near to some pride. Yeah. You know. There's points on it. I produce the crystal that I found on Whisperfang all those many real life months ago as I feel a strange blood connection to it. Thank you for remembering. Oh my God. When you go to see her, I totally forgot about that. The gem, the crystal, the object that you found on Whisperfang's body is indeed the cage that had the two burgues in it. And... Take this, we have things in my plot! And she takes it with great thanks. And the kind of thanks and gratitude that can only come with, wow, you've returned our gods to us. Please, I've got just your great saviour. We owe you in perpetuity, for eternity, not just for your first favor, but for returning us to our balance in the cosmos. The symbiosis is finally restored thanks to you. Just another day that ends in scrim is the best. Just another day that ends in scrim is the best, is exactly correct. And then I think finally, the main task that I would do would be to meditate with the artifact and try to get as attuned to it as possible and think about it almost powering the portal and the treasure room. And I just didn't know how to use it, and if I can make that work. And I wanna try to learn as much as I can about it so that we're prepared to use it against the... Against the... I would say it doesn't take much longer than an hour with the artifact. For you to recognize, this is a... With Rufang sort of hinted at it. It takes a long time to delve into its secrets. And similar to how some magic items, you have to attune to them, this one similarly requires attunement. An eight hour session of uninterrupted concentration where you're going to sit and spend time with it. You also learn that more than one person can attune to this item. Oh, oh, oh, the implications. Whoa. I would probably have show everyone over the course, if I have eight hours with everybody, I'll give them a session of like, this is how it works and connect with it and... Ha! There you go. You all enjoy the benefits of the long rest. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. And you rest that evening. And during one of your days, you are... You feel comfortable enough to take a moment to not jump up and leap into action and do the immediate next thing. Yes, the pressures that you describe to the tribes are real. Yes, this duty is real, this quest. But it's time to uncover these mysteries and you all become attuned to the Hexature Armament. Damn. Damn. I'm using this time. I would hand you a magic item card. That there might be consequences that come with those choices. What else do you do? I would make a nice feast. I wouldn't be thinking too much about rationing at this point. It's like how when you're ice bound and it's Christmas time and you gotta do it for morale and it's gonna be hard for the rationing and hard for the stores. But it's needed. So it's extra portions, it's good stuff. I'm breaking out everything that I was saving and trying to ration. I'm just cooking it all. And if the ogres had a rough time of it, I'll be welcoming them in. The humans as well, if they're there. When you get to the district, your first return after leaving the Biting Bastion, after seeing Cygdis to her tower to rest and seeing everyone calm for the evening. When you return to your district, you find that everyone is okay. They mostly turned on each other. This district was the least guarded. So there were the fewest cobalts or Goliaths or anything like that to worry about. They had heavily barricaded everything. But because they knew you weren't there, they left the ogres alone. They were filled with wrath and they had a great fight about it. Chuckling and laughing and grabbing each other's arms and smiling. What a beautiful battle that was. The morning after a purge is glowing on their face and no one was seriously killed or hurt. And so Manny introduce happily welcomes you back to the district and because it's a feast time and because you're overspending, you are able to not just feed the stomach, but you are able to feed the spirit, Barnabos. And then at the end of the feast, I think that we probably have a nice quiet moment for Queenie and honor her. And I think at the end of the feast, I would walk over to Taishan. Or maybe I'll be sitting next to Taishan. And I would have had the emblem of the icebound castaways and now the ice born around my neck. And I'll say, Mr. Fire Blossom, and I'll yank it off. And I'll say this whole time, I should have been thinking about the journey we saw in the lights all those months ago. Fortitude to overcome fear. You would fly up there, shift out, and I would sit by the tree, and I think meditate and feel the connection to the Feywild and the winter lands and just sort of reflect on Queenie and losing her and what her sacrifice meant and what role the Queen has her had to play, wondering if there's still more for her to play or not. Interesting. On the second day, you... Don't find the tree disturbed, but you know that it has been... Your tracking senses being what they are, your knowledge of plants being what they are. You know that it has been... Caressed. It's clear that it has been visited by Cygnus. And you clear some snow at the bottom as you have made this discovery. You find the coin that Scrim gifted her at the base, and you know that she too is coming to this tree and having her own time to reflect. Wow. I will leave the coin there, but I think I would feel very... There'd be a good feeling. I think you already would see, there'd be a little bit of a smile upon that discovery. And then really I think as part of my learning of how this artifact works, I would go to Kett, and I would try to offer to maybe send him home if he was interested. You have this power? You can send me back to the Astral Sea? I do not know for sure, but this artifact in some way can power a great portal in the castle. If we can find a way to attune it, there have been many portals that have opened to different places, and I think with enough study, I think I can. I have been thinking about this some time, as much as I wish to go back home. It is not like I would be going back to family. And the presence of that, any points to the hexatron mint on your back, is because of my actions, my responsibility. If you are taking it back to its home, to its home, I have endangered many. I thought I might see it back through and join you into that plane, as dangerous as this may be for me. And they, if they knew what I did, may have a more strict justice than you served the princess. If it meant averting more life's loss, then it might be worth it. So be it. You are ice for me. And when the time comes, you may join us. You have that conversation. And, you know, he's much weaker than he is now. When you met him, he was already a year atrophied, but still a strong fighter. His torment at the hands of the princess was debilitating. I think I would tend to his wounds. That would be something that I'd be doing, is making sure that he's healing okay. And I would honestly even offer to tend to, say this is wounds, and, you know, checking in on her and, you know, if she would allow me to sort of, you know, obviously her life. When you visit her, she is very distant. She is, you know, she is very distant. She is almost like returning to that state that you witnessed her after her great destruction of the Silver Dominion. After she decimated those people, she went to slumber, and for a long time. And it's not as though she wasn't just on the brink of death, the emotional transformation. It seems to be something that she needs to recharge. And her biology being what it is, you know, an arrow wound here, a bruise here, an ice pack, even magical healing can only get her so far, but her exhaustion takes much longer to recover. I think your name would really go into, like, crisis management mode and really kind of play that sort of medicine man, advisor role. Like, going to the chieftains and giving, he would probably barely sleep, right? Like, I'd be barely sleeping at the same time. You're going from one thing to the other. Yeah, just like trying to help people and trying to give advice and trying to keep everybody from, like, losing their shit and just doing what I can while trying to study this thing. There are those who only stay because of the presence of the dragon, because of the presence of Cygdis. You do imagine that had she been destroyed, that the cobbles would have fled, the Goliaths would have gone on their own way, the Minotars in there, the dwarves would have hunkered down even further, right? Very few would have remained in this space because the sense of leadership, that central pillar would have not existed. And so, as you are going around, you don't find yourself having to convince people to stay. It's just about problem solving. But I think my conversation with Kett would get me thinking about, I'd be thinking about what he said about going to the plane of logic and trying to get this thing to work. And thinking about what we've experienced in the power of the seed, in the power of the blood, in the power of all of these things. Trying to remember whatever became of Cygdis in his head. If that would be something that I could perhaps find. The last you saw the head, gosh, it was put into a steel box, or a metal box, not steel, but some form of container, and slid shut so that the scream couldn't be as loudly heard. Just gotta run out of energy at some point. So you have no clue where that artifact might be. You could search towers for it on your own, or you could ask the one person who almost certainly would know at this point, which is Cygdis. Yeah, I think if we're visiting her and talking about it, I would ask her while I'm treating her. I think also we'd be in and out of the bastion, ensuring that kind of things were going, executing as we were intending them to.
