Now on 105.9 FM and streaming worldwide on the WMAL app O'Connor and company It is 8.07 it's our fourth hour and you know what that means Bethany Mando you know what that means I am pumped revved up Let's go the 5 a.m. Hour. We're you're weird and creepy and the 8 a.m. Hour. You're really really amped Yeah, you don't know you don't know I'll go with that absolutely Coming up later in this program in just 30 minutes Steve Moore Economist extraordinaire will explain exactly what's going to happen now that Trump has announced there will be a naval blockade of Iranian oil interests until the shit of Hormuz is opened up. It's our straight now apparently. I don't know. Let's see Let's see what happens in the meantime. That's Bethany Mandel. I'm Larry Conner. Check out the mom wars podcast from Bethany Mandel very important stuff and Stack and the sub stack Maryland delegate Lauren Eriken has been an outspoken opponent of sanctuary policies in the state of Maryland and I don't know delegate Eric and it sure looks like They're making this into a sanctuary state that they are following Gavin Newsom style Laws actually they're even more assertive than Gavin Newsom's California with regard to protecting criminals But what are they doing here with this so-called community trust act? Yeah, thanks for having me on this morning you guys this bill is actually appalling I mean it may be the worst bill in terms of immigration restrictions ever seen Nationwide it actually bans cooperation with ice for local jurisdiction. So if ice has a detainer on an individual and They're brought into custody for any reason really any charge There's no allowances here for local jurisdictions to respect that ice detainer. It's terrifying And It's so frustrating what first of all, what's the status of this? Is it now back in the Senate's hands or is it in the house that because I've lost track This thing has been rewritten a couple of times and they in the two chambers Yeah, they made some tweaks on the house side and so it's got to go back to the Senate today. It'll need a quick Upward downvote from the JPR committee and then it'll go Back to the house unless yeah, I think I'm back to the Senate and then it should be it should pass the Senate Wow, and you anticipate that it will pass the Senate Yeah, absolutely because it came from the Senate side. We thought this bill was dead. It's like a zombie bill It's not the only zombie bill, but it's one of the worst ones It didn't make it didn't make crossover day It was supposed to be dead and then you know the word on the street is that the Senate president had a lot of pressure Brewing in his own primary around this issue and so he decided to Resurrect it and move it at the last minute So what do you what do you see this doing to public safety in the state of Maryland? Are we? How much of a change is this going to impose on our ability to safely operate in this state? It's a massive change. I can't be overstated. I mean this is potentially thousands of individuals Who have been arrested for for crimes that? Should be sent to ice that ice likely has the tainers on that will now be released back into the community That's that's really what this does And what can be done at this point in terms of is there any stopping it? I mean, I know the numbers are there and I guess the last thing is if Westmore I guess determines that this will help him or hurt him for his national ambitions. Is that sort of where this rests? That's right. You hit the nail on the head. That was my final comment when I explained my vote on the floor I said that Westmore should absolutely veto this because the first woman who is slaughtered because of this bill in our state The blood will be on hands and so I just encourage anyone to reach out to the governor's office and tell him to veto this bill because it is It's so it's the biggest threat to public safety that I've seen in a long time since I've been down here Well, and let's just pause on that for a moment because you're not using Hyperbolic rhetoric or anything it's as if the people of Maryland or certainly their elected officials in Annapolis have forgotten Rachel Moran they have forgotten right Marilyn mother and And let's let's not us make the same mistake. This really is about Rachel Moran. This is about her murderer and basically Marilyn validating the policies that allowed that murderer to to stay in this country and and ruin Murder this woman assault this woman murder this woman and then leave all of those children without a mother Yeah, exactly that that wasn't one of my points that I ran on the floor I said look you guys if we had caught Rachel Moran's murder before he killed her under this law Let's say he had committed in the soul to have gotten a DUI Because the facts around the case and because California didn't yet I had not yet identified him and that So he had never been convicted of anything Because of the way the facts the case worked if we caught him before he killed her Maryland would have forced that local jurisdiction to release into the public that is what would have happened under this bill and it's I need to drill down here. So Marylanders understand so Westmore Understands this because Westmore only understands his polls and what his ambition is so a sheriff's deputy in Frederick County Pulse over a guy who is swerving and they and they do a field test on him. He's clearly drunk He gets arrested on a DUI they check him out. They find out there's an ice detainer for him for deportation He's in the country legally they also find that he's been arrested a couple of times on sexual assault on You know breaking and entering and they've either pled out or or the Commonwealth or the state's attorney has dropped charges this guy Should be handed over for deportation Democrats in Maryland and if Westmore signs this they will protect this man keep him in Maryland and the next crime The blood will be on their hands is that that did I say anything that is inaccurate with regard to this? That is no that is exactly what will happen. That is exactly what will happen It is it is so counter to basic public safety Why on earth would we keep people who are not only did they already? Violate our laws by coming here or overstaying a visa, but they've gotten arrested repeatedly Yeah, that's that is the idea to protect criminal illegals. I don't know a nicer way to say it. That's what this bill does the the write-ups here claim that local officials can Notify ice again not mustin of ice not shall notify ice but can notify ice based on forced situations Convicted of a felony here in the US registered sex offender serve 12 to 18 months in state prison or Five years in prison for in another state Can you just help me out? Is it all four of those things or is it any one of those four things that that will allow Sheriff Jenkins to finally call icing and deport somebody Yeah, that those are or so it's one of those four things but remember that's often not the case They haven't been convicted yet right and I mean that allows for essentially a International terrorist that Interpol wants maybe they've been convicted out of the country if they're caught here in Maryland Law they have to be released International care and even convicted murderers from from El Salvador convicted murderers from Venezuela Nope, you're allowed to stay free here and also I just wanted to be clear here There's a reason why they say serve between 12 to 18 months in state prison because we see this working out in Fairfax County right now Steve Discano will purposely plead out For lesser offenses so that the person does not face deportation. That's what your state's attorneys will do in Maryland They'll they'll get this guy and they'll plead out to under 12 months So that the person doesn't face deportation This is so insidious and against any level of public safety that any responsible person would would adhere to it's outrageous Oh, yeah, and the polling shows that this is not what Marylanders want not even Democrats That the polling shows that is this is an 80% issue I mean people do not want criminal illegals running amok in their communities period They do not want this. This is not good public policy and even Democrat voters know that So I'm sorry, it's just dumbfounded. Who's calling the shots here? Is it just the special interest? Is it or is it just Democrats trying to own Trump? Is it or there is a Casa de Maryland who is funneling money to these campaigns and Soros be all of the above? I just makes no sense that they would do that. I think I think I think it is I'm sure all and all of the above, but I think it's also election year gimmicks. I think all of this You know for Democrats running in these gerrymandered districts where it's that only the extreme left primary voters are choosing who runs our state They think that any type of deportation is a human rights violation. It's totally bizarre So I think that it's a lot of Democrat primary voters that are pushing these and look some of the Democrats have very contested primaries including Senate President Bergen who has a very contested primary Against a radical leftist that claims he's yeah, exactly. All right, we'll leave it there. Sorry and sadly Thank you for being the tip of the spear on this. Thank you for speaking out so passionately about it Maryland delegate Lauren arick and that's district 7b in Hartford County. Thank you, ma'am Thanks for hosting me you guys have a great one state 17. Sorry, Beth and I just sort of took off there No, I'm glad you did next roll with Vernon Davis the transformative journeys of athletes artists and entrepreneurs Lights out Sean man. I want to be the biggest and the best one I do And so whatever it takes I'll get it done in business and everything else All I do is know how to fight and earn what I want my man. Malik asks what actor comedian What you want to collaborate with me, Jamie Foxley Kevin Hart in a movie. We said it on verner. Davis podcast So we'll circle back. Yeah, you're gonna clear next roll with Vernon Davis follow and listen on your favorite platform Let's get everyone up to date on the erics wall well situation If you didn't track it over the weekend or if you went to sleep early last night, you missed it 835 eastern time he posted on social media. I'm suspending my campaign for governor Eric's wall well says to my family staff friends and supporters. I'm deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I've made in my past. I will fight the serious false allegations that have been made but that's my fight Not a campaigns. Of course, this is after Multiple revelations in a 48 hour period over the weekend Bethany that Eric's wall well had had multiple encounters of a sexual nature with members of his staff interns even and some of those allegations Rosed to the level of alleged sexual assault also a video of him at a party in his home Showed him making out with a woman who was identified as a prostitute There were also allegations that he had paid his nanny a brazilian national Out of his campaign funds, of course, we mentioned last week that there were campaign line items paying his wife for daycare Paying his wife to watch his children. Would you like to get a gig like that out of the campaign? I would in fact I would be interested um What's interesting and funny to me is that? He was taken out when none of this was new information There have been reports of this for a decade or more that there was a creepy You know Politician based out of california who was predatory with female staffers. Um, I'm not sure what changed to sort of put this into overdrive but um, but this is this was a clear And successful sort of operation to take him out by the democrats Yes by democrats So it needs to be clear because swallowing for the last couple of weeks as other stories were dropping like the his dalliance with the chinese spy and the fbi reportedly Releasing those documents everything he kept saying well, i'm a target of trump trump hates me This is maga world against me. None of it is true. None of it came from maga world republicans may be dumb But they're not that dumb if they had all this dirt on eric swalwell They were going to wait until after the primary and then take him out if he survived the primary This was to eliminate him from the democrats side of the equation to allow. I don't know katie porter to rise um That does seem to be the case because when one of the first people who like an independent journalist who started talking about this Two weeks ago is linked directly to katie porter's campaign. Yeah, no, but it's it's funny because uh The goal here should be to take someone out of the primary to then offer a stronger candidate who does not have the same Vices the same the same shortcomings and katie porter Is the female version of eric swallow basically except for the sexual allegations, but certainly for the the I mean she's a mess. Yes. She's she's scary. She is scary and She's uh, there's plenty of videos of her berating her staff screaming at her staff going ballistic on them There are reports from her divorce proceedings and you know, listen the divorce brings out the worst in people But there are allegations that she dumped scalding hot mashed potatoes on her ex-husband's head Uh in front of her child. I knew that and I still have a visceral reaction about it. It's just it's it's horrifying She does have strong name recognition She did run for the democrat nomination against adam schiff last time around and lost adam schiff's people by the way Were very very aggressive in keeping katie porter from getting that nomination for senate So she's already lost statewide in recent year just last year in uh, two years ago. I guess it's now 2024 Um, who else is there? Well, um, california attorney general zavier beshara. Who's the former? Excuse me former attorney general and former health and human services secretary, and tony ovier regosa former la mayor um That I I think at this point it might be tom steyer. He's a billionaire Uh, he ran for president in 2020 didn't go anywhere Uh, he's doing okay in the polls around 13 range. Maybe he's the one to emerge here for the democrats I don't know. He's got the money. That's for sure I I mean they they have a problem starting right from the top of not using a primary process as it is intended to be used To choose the strongest candidate possible. Um, and so perhaps this seems More headline grabbing and interesting because we're actually watching a primary process that should have happened During the presidential election and all the way down But the the the democratic party has a very top down perspective where they they decide who is anointed and then it's a seamless transition To the general. Um, this is how it should be the cell politics is supposed to operate Well, and what's interesting is they're assuming the democrats who were supporting eric swa well now that he's dropped out Will coalesce around one or one of the others? But if they split some go to katie porter some go to you know via regosa and some go to You know stire it means that the polling will continue to show two republicans leading the way steve hilton and chad bianco the former Excuse me the current sheriff of riverside county and that could mean That those two if they emerge from this jungle primary the two republicans will face off in the general That would be wild. It would be wild. Oh trump governor of california Yeah, president trump by the way last week endorsed steve hilton. He's a former fox news host And has been running sort of a grassroots populist campaign He's polling number one and has been for months now, but number one again is only 19 percent because there's you know 10 candidates in the field Bianco is usually right behind hilton running around 16 17 percent and then third And coming close was eric swa well eric swa well is no more by the way all the democrats including mark warner of virginia and other democrats who spoke out and said that you know, this is outrageous shiff and In gaego and polosi. They all said swa well needs to drop out of the race Not one of them said that he needs to resign from congress And and I make the joke that he is too creepy to be the governor of california But just creepy enough to be a member of congress Standards are different larry in this town. I'll say they are it's 8 25 Now on 105.9 fm and screaming worldwide on the w m a l app O'connor and company It's 8 37 it's o'connor and company on this monday morning Thanks for tuning in here on the 13th day of april chris plant comes up in 30 minutes The bethany mandel is with us this morning and and we've got more work to do bethany. Are you ready? They're stuck with us for another half an hour Exactly all those lucky sons of guns joining us now steve more Economist extraordinaire friend of the program and he's going to make sense of everything going on in the world today Good morning steve. Good to talk with you Good morning larry. And by the way, yes, I am prepared to ask your question today. You know, I always quit It's always a test I know i'm not going to ask about anything because I know she knows the answer to all these things But I know I think you're like two out of four in the last month or so. That is a passing grade. I think from where I come from Steve so now the president has announced after the talks broke down in islamabad that there's going to be a blockade now of iranian oil interests in the state of horn mous and other areas and and we will be enforcing penalties on Any country that is taking oil or purchasing oil and paying this so-called toll to get through this trade What do you make of that and what what are the repercussions going to be on the global oil price? so the strait of horn mousse is everything now in terms of the Your term future of the u.s economy We have to get that oil flowing again because about 20 to 25 percent of the world's oil flows through there Every day until recently and so it's a big deal for the u.s economy if we want to bring inflation down if we want to bring gas prices down Uh, we need to get that straight open trump is totally committed to that now that being said this idea of a toll is ridiculous I mean it's crazy and trump is absolutely right. We will not countenance this we will not allow it All of a sudden you're going to see everywhere around the world all the sea lanes countries rogue countries trying to Put up tolls, you know, I would see china doing that in the China's southeastern. So no that's a non-negotiable item Larry and bethany and we can't allow it and trump is 100 correct about on that Uh, it's going to get open. I mean we're going to open the strait It's just a question whether it's going to take three days or three weeks or how long and once we get the straight open Then the gas price will start to migrate back down to remember Back in general February at the lowest gas prices like ever, you know, adjusted for inflation So that's what we're all hoping for, uh, but it's it's proven to be harder than we expected I'm I'm seeing some sort of conflicting reports about if there are actually mines in the strait Do you do you know one way or the other if if it is in fact mined and if it is What would be required to clear those? I do not know the answer to that. Um, I wouldn't be surprised if there were the problem has been drones and other, uh, You know attack mechanisms that put those ships in jeopardy, but the question I was going to ask Larry Is this uh, and it's very pertinent to this conversation. Larry, uh, o'connor, do you know what country in the world? produces the most oil and gas I I do know that it's the united states of america. You got it Most people that are not aware of that in fact I was even surprised when I when I uh looked at those statistics about a couple months ago So we are the number one producer and as a the most kind of even more amazing statistic that I think will Surprise people is that the united states today is a net exporter of oil gas. Did you know that one Larry? That's a recent development, but yes, sir. I do I have I have been Yeah, so So, uh, you know for the last 50 or 60 years, we have been totally dependent on you know foreign Oil and now thanks to drill baby drill. This is one of the reasons thank god Trump. Trump is president now during this crisis Because can you imagine what we'd be paying for gasoline at the pump today? Underby the green energy plant. We'd be paying we'd be paying ten dollars a gallon So, uh, we are Much better positioned to cushion this blow than we were five ten twenty thirty years ago But it's still a blow and we've got to get that thing open because the economy is you know in weak shape right now because Oil is is the is the is the energy source that is dominant in the world today Do you think that what we did in venezuela with maduro was some 3d chess looking forward to this conflict? And securing a better source of oil that was not from that region of the world So that was an amazing, uh You know thing that we did in in venezuela and it took 24 hours and and and Unfortunate what we found is that with venezuela is a very oil rich country as everyone knows but because of their crazy leadership for the last 20 years it's it's the Infrastructure has been ruined there. So it's going to take people say well I don't we just use the venezuelan oil eventually we will but it's going to take a long time to get the that that Oil up and running again and getting the pipelines and getting infrastructure done. So Yeah, let's just produce as much as we can here at home keep drilling keep keep building the pipelines This is another problem. But by the way, yeah, this one's for you, bepony because lary's banana Do you know what what state in the country has the highest gas price? california Yes California has more oil than about any other state other than say texas, melasca And it's because these blue states will not develop their energy sources. So california's pay a dot You think we're paying a lot here in washington, dc They pay a dollar fifty a gallon more than we do here because they will not use their energy sources Steve, I don't think you're being fair those windmills are enough to to run one light bulb Really they put a lot of thought into it Steve real fast, uh, you're right. I mean our our supply and our ability to drill baby drill is going to make sure that we don't have a shortage but of course the Problem with the state of horn mousse has to do with the the global price of oil That's right. It doesn't matter if we have but here's what's interesting to me And I'd love for you to sort of finish up with this. Um, china China unlike us china does need that oil coming from the straight of horn mousse china Is going to have a supply problem. So at what point do they start putting pressure on iran and say fix this? That is a great question a really good question and I don't know the answer to lary But it is the question and where is china and all this they get you're right the two countries that got the most oil from the uh from the Middle east are china and india and yet they've been nowhere. They're not they have been said and by the way I am just so sick of the european flurry. I'm sorry They have done nothing they are dependent on middle east oil as well and they sit back there the french the spanish the german's And you know those countries have deindustrialized them. So no, we don't want we don't want the you know fossil fuels come on How are there are allies are they our friends really they have lovely old churches steve? They've got that going for them. They did some beautiful things about a thousand years ago with architecture steve more We got to leave it there. Thanks for joining us as always and i'm glad I aced the test today. I appreciate it Both of you did. Okay. Have a great week guys next role with verne and davis the transformative journeys of athletes artists and entrepreneurs Ladies and gentlemen lights out shan marim I want to be the biggest and the best when I do and so whatever it takes I'll get it done in business and everything else. All I do is know how to fight and earn what I want my man Malik asks what actor comedian what you want to collaborate with me jamie foxley kevin harry in a movie We said it on verne and davis podcast there. So we'll circle back be like, yep It's gonna clear next role with verne and davis follow and listen on your favorite platform I was torn about this idea bethany mandel the president announced a while ago that he wanted to erect a triumphal arch speaking of european architecture This would be at the end of the memorial bridge near the entrance to arlington national cemetery at 250 foot arch You know reminiscent of the you know, there's other cities have triumphal arches like this. There's one at At washington square park in new york city Obviously the arched atrium in paris It's a beautiful looking the renderings are now out now that I see it. I see how big it is. I see the perspective I'm still kind of torn. I like the idea of a triumphal arch, but it does sort of loom there at arlington, doesn't it? Can we workshop the name? trump arch trump No, like what? No, trump is not in the name. It's triumphal. We have to put it into the name. Oh trump full arch Trump full oh, I like that. Well, I think as soon as you do that, uh, it'll it'll be hated even more Yes, that's sure. That's sure which maybe it's maybe that's good. Yeah It would bear the golden inscription one nation under god. It's flanked by four golden lions. There's a giant statue of uh, liberty Carrying a torch reminiscent of the statue of liberty, but she's winged and she is at the top of it And she's flanked by two golden eagles this at the top of the arch The perspective on it as you go across the memorial bridge is kind of cool looking the perspective looking back from arlington at dc Makes it look bigger than I think it really is but I don't know. I mean 250 feet is 250 feet Um, also by the way, uh, it seems like some veterans groups are opposing this because they think that it obscures the view of the cemetery and the Grave markers from the steps of the capital. I don't think that's really a case and by the way There are veterans groups who are just highly political that go well beyond Just protecting that so I want to see which groups those are um This shouldn't be controversial though. The president has put forth a plan to repaint the eisenhower building and freshen it up That would be fantastic. It looks so dingy the eisenhower building. So this would be good I support it. I knowing trump he will probably get it paid for because it will be the Like I don't know the dell family trumps full arch. He'll he'll get some sort of corporate sponsorship To pay for it. So you're in favor of the triumph the triumph the art the uh american version of the arctic triumph Yeah, yeah, except I think that he needs to call it the trumpful That's it. Come on lean in man He actually will do that. I know it's 853 Next roll with vernon davis the transformative journeys of athletes artists and entrepreneurs ladies and gentlemen lights out Sean meredin I want to be the biggest and the best one I do and so whatever it takes I'll get it done in business and everything else.
