Welcome back to Cat Daddy, the podcast where every day is Caturday. I'm Clay. And I'm Caitlin. And today we're joined by a very special guest, the one and only Millie, DeepaVetMullings. Millie is a first-year vet student at Ross University, a voice for diversity in vet med and a certified cat whisperer. We'll be asking her and you at home some of the most fun, wild and unbelievable questions about cats. Are you ready, Millie? No pressure. A layer reputation as a cat genius is on the line. Oh boy, let's get into it. This is where it says banter here. This is where the banter goes. So tell us about your cats. Oh, right now I have eight cats at home. And my mother doesn't hit one with me. My mom, they let me take one with me. So let's see, there's Sasha, Mac, Callie, Fizhu, Jessie Jeff, and then we have one that we call garage kitty. Because she is semi-fairil, but she won't leave the garage. So I remind now she's garage kitty, all different colors, all different temperaments. And Callie was our most recent addition because when my mom came to help me move into Ross, she brought back a cat with her instead of me. Yeah, I won't say whether we have less or more cats than you. We'll leave that number ambiguous. The number changes frequently. Yeah, the number does change frequently. I'll say that. Our color palette is pretty muted over here. We're mostly black and white or black or gray. We have one orange cat. Our little spot of color. We love our monochromatic rainbow. Yeah. So Ross, how do you like Ross? I love Ross. It's very hand on. I feel very much supported by my professors, things like that. I also just love living on the island too. That's so cool. Definitely different than what I'm used to. And it's nice to be able to study all week and then go to the beach on the weekends. Yes, you have to take care of yourself too. So tell me, where are you in vet school? Like what year are you? So I just made it to my third semester. I'm in my first year. So Ross has a trimester system where we don't have summer break. So we are in school all year round, which is why it's an accelerated program. So technically, I am still, I am in my first year, but I, but we go by semester. So I may throw at a semester student. That's awesome. Since I passed all my finals with semester. Yes, that's awesome. Well, are you ready to put some of that knowledge to test? I hope it didn't go away. I hope we don't have any of those questions on this list, because I'll have to pronounce the words. Yeah, we don't know how to do that. So before we get started, let's take a short commercial break. This show is brought to you by Zoetis. All right. So segment one, fact or fiction, multiple choice edition. Question one, why do cats primarily meow, A, to annoy other cats, B, to communicate with humans, or C, to locate prey? I'm going to say B, to talk to us. B is correct. Cats mainly meow at humans, not at other cats. It's their way of getting what they want, which is usually snacks or attention. Same here, though. So I would say that makes me feel so much better, because I've had so many conversations with my cat then. Oh gosh, don't you love it. We have one cat who answers us. When you say say, you go, Che, he is so sweet. He looks so dumb when he mows. He does. He leaves his mouth like hangs open, and he's got a blank look on his face. The meow is one of, of like disbelief or confusion. He's a typical cat. Question number two, how old was the oldest recorded cat? A, 23 years, B, 29 years, or C, 38 years. Oh, all of this recorded cat. This was actually kind of hard. It really is, because those are all very old cats. Like they're old cats. Well, how old can a cat get? Oh, I want to, would it be 29? Unfortunately, no, the correct answer is C, 38 years. It was a cat named cream puff, and he lived to be 38 in Austin, Texas. Gandalf in cat years. It's like, Muthusolo. Muthusolo, yes. I want 38 years out of our cats. That's what we're trying to do. I need to know the diet. Right? Personally, I've never heard of a cat living past 25. I thought 38 would be a throwaway answer. It does seem like it should be. I only know because I remember the cat being an cream puff. I think they're lying. How many other cats have lived to be 38? I don't know, but cream puff actually didn't look too bad. All right, question three. What percentage of calico cats are female? A, 50%, B, 75%, or C, over 99%. I'm sticking with my conqueror answer. I feel like it's B. The answer is actually C, over 99%. The calico pattern is linked to the X chromosome, so almost all are female. Male calicos are rare and usually sterile. That one was hard to do though. Aren't male calicos called chimeras? I believe so. I knew there is sterile, so I also knew they existed. Yes, so 99% to me means like it's 100%, but you just can't say 100. I'm sure they've had like cases, but it's one of those things where everything has to slot in perfectly or it doesn't happen. Right. Question number four. What's true about cats and swimming? A, all cats hate water. B, some breeds like to swim. Or C, cats can't swim at all. They just sink directly to the bottom. I feel like this really is my comfort answer. I'm saying B. B is correct. Some breeds do like to swim. Breeds like Turkish bands love the water. And so yes, there are cats who'd out paddle you. A broken clock is right twice a day. Hell yeah, it is. B is always a solid choice. Question five. What's special about a cat's purr? A, it's a warning to other cats. B, it can heal bones. Or C, it helps with digestion. I feel like A, strain away. Go on with A. The answer is actually B, it can heal bones. Cats purr at a frequency that promotes bone and tissue healing. It's like built in physical therapy. That doesn't sound like it should be true. There may be a little suit of science to it. So this next segment is called this or that. Pick your personality. So we're going to give you two options and you just got to say the first one that you like. Like just right off top of your head. There's no wrong. Right. This is just for fun. Heralist cats are fluff balls. I love me a good fluff ball. Bow ties or hoodies on cats. Bow ties. Garfield or Tom. Cats from ancient Egypt or cats of Instagram. Cat or Asia Egypt. Tuna or chicken snacks. Oh, Tuna. I'll just say this is for the cat not for you. You know when I pick stuff for the cats, I pick things that I think sound good. Like I don't know how much our cats actually likes salmon. But I love salmon. Cats like stinky food. They do flower, especially one of our cats. If it smells like something bad, she loves it. Yeah, if it stinks like aff, she wants it. This is why we told you not to worry about cats. Back to the hard ones. Segment three. True cat history. Believe it or not. What was the name of the cat that went to space? A, Astro cat. B, Luna or C, Felicitay. B, I know many cats named Luna. There are many cats named Luna, but unfortunately this one's name was Felicitay. She was launched by the French space program in 1963. No space suit. No problem. Thanks. Yeah, you read that one sad. Probably didn't go so fun. I think it's a good thing to say. Yeah, I don't think there was a retrieval program for the cat. Probably not. You know, I choose to believe the cat is now, I like to rewrite history when I don't like how something ends. The cat is now an overlord of another planet. Which one? It's not for me to say. This day far away from us now after what happened. Yeah, that's fair actually. If Felicitay finds out that we know, it's the interest. Is there other life? No, it's just the cat we sent up. Oh, it's like poor like the dog. The dog who was also sent into space and then just left there. That's so messed up. Two better people. Question 12. Which US president was a known cat lover? A, George Washington. B, Abraham Lincoln. Or C, Ronald Reagan. Abraham Lincoln seems like a cat guy. Can't explain it, but you seem like it. Well, you'd be correct. The answer is B, Abraham Lincoln. It's the beard. That's fair. I have a lot of cats too. He had several cats and let one eat off the table during dinners at the White House. Iconic behavior. I love that so much. Question 13. What wild thing did the CIA do in the 1960s? A, taught cats to type. B, trained cats to be spies. Or C, made a cat president of a secret society. I'm going to say A, because if I can land a type, a cat can land a type. Is that your final answer? Oh gosh, that stresses me out. A, I'm going away. So unfortunately the correct answer is B, they trained cats to be spies. Because acoustic kitty was real. It didn't work out. Turns out cats don't like surveillance work. They did that and cats are bad at it because they're smart enough to know tricks, but they don't really care. It's like if they could text you back, they wouldn't. Right, yeah. Question 14. Which cat holds the record for the loudest per? A, Felix, B, Thunder, or C, Merlin? I want to say C, B seems like the obvious answer, but C. C is corrected as Merlin. What? A cat. That's right. His per hit 67.8 decibels, basically as loud as your vacuum cleaner. The rigour, what do you get that is insane. Yeah. Plus it's terrified dogs. Oh gosh, terrified the dogs. Question number 15. Cats were put on trial during which period? A, the Renaissance. B, the Middle Ages. Or C, the roaring 20s. I want to say the Middle Ages. That is correct. Cats were actually accused of witchcraft and killed, which is bullshit. And it's one reason that the black plague spread so easily because there were no cats around to control the rafts. Take that, medieval people. Look at that. Right, look what happened. Look at you now. You did. Did they kill that many cats? They killed a bunch. I don't know. They're no strangers. I'm not horrible. They have people or two. Yeah. Question 16. What's Taylor Swift's cat's name? A, Olivia Benson. B, Betty White. Or C, Catness Everclean. Catness Everclean. Going with Catness. It's a good pun. But the answer is A, Olivia Benson. Nameed after the law and order character. She also has Meredith Gray and Benjamin Button. Question number 17. What's the name of the cat in men in black? A, Nebula. B, Orion. Or C, Comet. B, Orion. That is correct. And he literally had a galaxy on his collar. No big deal. One of our cats, you know, Kimari. We have a cat named Kimari. And his name at the animal shelter was Orion. And we changed it. Oh, she never adopted him. I was not thinking of the men in black cat though. Oh, listen, either they just, we had a thing. Because it's just the Nova. Yeah. So they were doing like a space thing. Yeah. We did like a space in zodiacs. We had Leo and. But then we also had Lord Voldemort. Yeah. So maybe there wasn't that big of a, right? My zodiac sign cannot be named. You sounded really excited about the answer to, are you a fan of the old men in black women? I have watched that movie a thousand times. I was like, you seem to be too young. No, I love that movie. That's amazing. And I thought it was like the great kind like having the galaxy like around his taller, or I felt like I have to rewatch it. I haven't seen men in black since I was a child. That's what I can say. That's an old movie. I remember liking it. I wonder if that was Will Smith's like first breakout movie away from like fresh principle air. I want to say he was still like pretty new. Yeah. He was still, he was one of the first big things he was in. Question 18. Who was the internet's most famous grumpy feline? A, sourpuss, B, grumpy cat, or C, Mr. Growley. It's gotta be B. Gotta be B, grumpy cat. Out of those, it is B, grumpy cat. Whose real name is Tartar sauce. Oh, that's in peace. Is he grumpy if my name was Tartar sauce? I really like Mr. Growley. I was gonna say that I'm not a pun on Mr. Crowley, but it's good. It's so good. Question 19. And if you get this one wrong, we've got a prop. What cat is known for always chasing a mouse and never winning? A, Felix, B, Tom, or C, Sylvester. I'm gonna have to go with a little bad boy, Tom. That's right, Tom from Tom and Jerry, poor guy. Decades of failure and still clocking in every day. Same! Hashtag attacked. Are you aware of Felix? That's another pretty old, old show Felix the cat. Hi, these down failure. I don't blame me for not having known him at this old... Picture, I would know. You know him if you saw him, for sure. You'd recognize him from the cat clocks for the eyes that dart back and forth with the tail as a pendulum. Oh, my, yeah, my grandma got a whole bunch of those. I want one of those. Yeah, we want one. We saw some in the antique store, but they were like $300. Yeah, they were like experts. Everybody's got to watch his and phones and everything else. Everything has the time of day on it. I know you don't want to charge $300 for a clock. I remember when I used to have to have a, like, at alarm clock. And now I just set my phone. Right, yeah. Question 20. Which cat was once featured on a presidential campaign button? A. President Clinton's cat socks. B. Morris the cat. Or C. Hello Kitty. I want to say B. I feel as though Morris sounds presidential. The answer is actually A. President Clinton had a cat named socks who was a national treasure in the 90s. And it's still a national treasure today. Is he still alive? No. He's a national treasure in our hearts. Okay, I was going to say because he'd be over 30, I think. That probably very treasure. Give her a point for that. All right, you can have a point for that one. So I got to ask you don't seem like a diva. You seem fair and very nice. Why are you the diva that I am diva that because back home in New Jersey, I very, I am very much to do everything more fast, face to New Jersey, everything start face after face. And also growing up in New York, like you have to be nowhere you're going. I mulled out a bit out here because I like on the island things moves, moves slower, a lot more calm. It's just part of the culture. They have a thing called rush slowly. However, that's not how I was back home. I was very much, I need to do this. I need to do this. I need to do that. And I have like an older sister. So you touch any of my stuff. I freak out. I usually have my lashes done. I can't do that as easily here. As soon as if I had any days off from work or if I had any breaks from work, I would immediately get my nails done. And I would have these long nails. So on my friends were just like, there's no way you work with animals. Oh, wow, I do. Well, the nails help scratch behind the ears and stuff. Absolutely. That's very necessary. That's going above and beyond for your patients. Yeah, the nails were for them. Right. Well, Milly, you crushed it. Thanks for joining us and showing off your cat trivia brilliance.
