Good evening and welcome to the Sleepy Bookshelf. This season we are reading Rainbow Valley by L. M. Montgomery, first published in 1919. Lucy Maud Montgomery was a beloved Canadian author who is most famous for creating Anne of Green Gables, the story of an imaginative orphan girl on Prince Edward Island. A prolific writer, she wrote 20 novels and hundreds of short stories, poems and essays, always setting her stories in the same location, capturing its beauty and community. Montgomery herself had her own personal struggles with depression, laws and family challenges, but she always channeled her love of life and nature into her resilient and complex characters, making her certainly one of Canada's national treasures. We know our listeners are as unique as our novels and lucky for you, our bookshelf is varied with lots of different types of stories to lull you into a deep sleep. The following is a preview to give you an idea of what to expect from this season. Rainbow Valley is the next story in the Anne of Green Gables series in order of publication. If you are unfamiliar with the story so far, you can go back to our previous seasons on the bookshelf to hear Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avon Lee, Anne of the Island, Anne's House of Dreams. This novel is a leap away from Anne herself, however, and follows more the community on Prince Edward Island now that Anne has her own children. This is actually book seven in the series, but as Anne of the Windy Poplar's and Anne of Ingle's side were written and published so much later, they are not yet available to the public domain. We hope you will join us for this season. However, if you decide that Rainbow Valley isn't your cup of tea, feel free to explore the rest of the bookshelf. We are sure you'll find something to help guide you into a restful sleep. And don't forget, our premium subscription offers additional stories to choose from. You can sign up whenever you'd like and listen to bonus content between the seasons on the main feed or as an alternative to them. If you are already a premium subscriber, we thank you so much for your support. So if it's time for bed, why not choose an episode, get cozy. And you will be asleep in no time. Otherwise, I hope to see you very soon at the Sleepy Bookshelf.
