Good Shepherd

This episode is a Catholic daily rosary meditation centered on John 10's Good Shepherd passage. The host explores spiritual leadership through five mysteries, contrasting Jesus as the true shepherd with false leaders, hirelings motivated by profit, and the importance of discerning God's voice amid competing influences in modern life.
Insights
- True freedom comes from consciously choosing whom to follow, not from rejecting all authority; those who deny needing leadership are enslaved to their own unexamined impulses
- Professional advisors and wellness experts, while potentially helpful, are fundamentally different from Jesus because they won't sacrifice themselves for you—they operate on contractual business relationships
- In an age of information overload, spiritual discernment requires daily practice of identifying what 'catches your attention' in Scripture and turning it into concrete daily action
- Religious movements claiming new revelations (Scientology, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses) lack historical continuity and eventually fade because people instinctively recognize they lack authentic authority
- Jesus uniquely combines three credentials: prophetic fulfillment, public miracles proving divine origin, and demonstrated willingness to sacrifice his life for others
Trends
Growing skepticism toward self-proclaimed gurus and pop psychology experts as primary life guidesIncreasing need for spiritual anchoring practices amid information overload and competing ideologiesRecognition that wellness and self-help industries operate on transactional rather than sacrificial modelsRenewed interest in traditional religious authority structures (Scripture, Church teaching) as counterbalance to fragmented modern advice cultureEmphasis on personal spiritual discernment practices rather than passive consumption of religious content

Welcome to our daily rosary meditation. Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for. I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death amen hail mary full of grace the lord is with thee blessed art thou among women blessed is the fruit of thy womb jesus holy mary mother of god pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death amen glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy spirit as it was in the beginning as now and ever shall be world without end amen our first mystery no matter how much we pretend otherwise we are all followers. We are all sheep. And that's not a bad thing. Not at all. It just means we need the right leader. Now, some people like to think of themselves as non-followers. I'm one of those people. They think of themselves as rugged individualists who carve their own way in life. They chart their own course. They don't take orders from anyone, and they really don't like conforming to rules. I definitely fall into that category. But actually, these people are the most deluded and most subjected out of everyone. They're the ones who are totally governed by their passions, by pride, or their disordered desires, or maybe even insecurity or anger. They're driven by the stick of their passions, and they're led about by the ring in their nose of their own unexamined impulses, and precisely because they think they're so independent, for that very reason, they are all the more completely enslaved to their unreflected, unsuspected masters. I know, I'm one of those people. those who know their sheep who know they have to follow something they're the ones who actually have the possibility of some real freedom because they can be free to choose whom they follow and in the gospel of john chapter 10 jesus tells us what options we have whom we can choose to be led by. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God. Pray for us in her arms now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God. Pray for us in her arms now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is a fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in our hands now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in our hands now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, as now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. O my Jesus. Forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy. Our second mystery. Jesus says that those who do not come through the gate to the sheepfold, but who climb over the walls, these are robbers and thieves. What does that mean? What's the sheepfold? What's the gate? Who are the robbers and the thieves? Well, the sheepfold is God's family. It's the chosen people, the church, and the walls around it and the gate into it. This is God's revelation given to his prophets, his apostles, and their successors, the Pope and the bishops. And those who bypass this revelation, those who ignore the scriptures, the teaching of the church, they are climbing over the wall to steal souls from God's community. They are the false messiahs who came before Jesus. They are the pagans who tried to the Israelites to worship their gods, the ones they created with their own hands. They are the Muslims and the Mormons, each of them claiming to have a new revelation The thieves and the robbers are anyone who makes their own way who comes up with their own religious ideas and tries to get people to follow them But Jesus like the prophets before and the church afterwards Jesus is the true shepherd and he teaches only what he has received from the Father. There will always be people coming up with new religions, inventing their own doctrines. there will always be Scientologists and Jehovah Witness and Seventh-day Adventists, and the fact that their ideas are practically brand new proves that they have not preserved them from the time of the Lord. And Jesus says that eventually the sheep will flee from them, for they realize that their voice is a strange voice, one they don't know. And these religions are fashionable for a time, and then they usually fade. Sometimes they increase again for a while, but most new paganisms and new variations of Christianity don't last long, because deep inside, the sheep know that the sheepfold is where they belong. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Holy、 Mary and womanثرiouskt 114-279, batheps His hand, Jesus. Holy, accidentally постав in the meekening, as now and never shall be, world without end. Amen. Oh my Jesus. Forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy. Our third mystery. Jesus also talks about the hirelings, those who get money to watch the sheep. He says, he who is a hireling and not a shepherd, whose own the sheep is not, he sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hireling and cares nothing for the sheep. So these are the people who lead the sheep, but not because they care for the sheep, but based on what they can get from the sheep. These hirelings may offer some service for the sheep, and they may even be benevolently disposed for the sheep, but they certainly aren't going to lay down their lives for the sheep. Who are these people? They are presumably all those people who offer you happiness and healing, but won't sacrifice anything for you personally. They are the ancient philosophers, for instance, who gave a lot of good advice, but we don't hear that they ever sacrificed themselves to help someone in need. The world today is full of wellness experts, people who want to tell you how to live, how to be fit, how to be well-adjusted, and they may have some good insights, but they make a good living at it, and they certainly aren't going to sacrifice themselves for you personally. Jordan Peterson has some great insights. I doubt he will lay down his life for you. your own personal therapist can probably do some great good for you, but won't lay down their life for you. In fact, if they stop getting paid, they'll stop giving you their time. These aren't necessarily bad people, but they are hirelings. They make their money by helping you with your issues, and at the end of the day, if things go terribly wrong for you, that isn't ultimately their problem. It's a contract thing. It's a business deal. It always was. So don't go all in on somebody who's not all in for you. Feel free to benefit from whomever has true insights that might benefit you, but don't give your life to someone who won't give their life for you. And there's only one person who has already proven that he will give his life for you. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us a stay our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in our midst now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us, sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us, sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee Blessed art thou among women Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us in our eyes now and at the hour of our death Amen Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in our eyes now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in this now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in this now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in this now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, as now, never shall be. World without end. Amen. O my Jesus. Forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy. Our fourth mystery. Jesus says, He who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name. And the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and they know me. Jesus, unlike all the gurus and all the pop psychologists and all the other religious founders, Jesus knows you. Jesus cares about you. Jesus, unlike all the gurus and all the pop psychologists and all the other religious founders, Jesus comes through the gate of God's revelation. He was prophesied by the scriptures. He worked public miracles that proved he was from God, and he promised he would rise again on the third day, and he did. Jesus, unlike all the gurus and pop psychologists and all the other religious founders, Jesus is completely invested in you. Jesus laid down his life for you. Jesus is the good shepherd. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in our instant now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus Holy Mary, Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Amen Hail Mary, full of grace The Lord is with thee Blessed art thou among women Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus Holy Mary, Mother of God Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death Amen Hail Mary, full of grace The Lord is with thee Blessed art thou among women Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the比如 of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the Rome of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in our ins now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us in our ins now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, as now and ever shall be. World without end. Amen. Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins. save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy. Our fifth mystery, Jesus said, the sheep hear the voice of the shepherd, and he calls his own sheep by name, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Well, how do we know the voice of the shepherd so that we can follow him? It can be so hard in prayer to discern the difference between our own voice in our head and the voice of the Good Shepherd. Let me give you, let me suggest to you two ways to practice knowing the voice of the Shepherd. Every one of these rosary meditations is based on the Word of God from Scripture, tradition, or the magisterium. All those make up the Word of God. When I'm reading this or you're reading it and when we're praying, whatever catches your attention, there's a reason it catches your attention. Because the shepherd is speaking to you. So whatever strikes you, that's what the shepherd's trying to say to you. And you want to lock into that and then hold it and reflect on it and think about it and apply it to your life because that's the shepherd speaking to you. And then you want to turn that into a resolution. You want to turn that into the concrete thing that you put into action that day so that you've heard the voice of the shepherd and now you're doing what the shepherd asked If you just practice each day during this rosary podcast to pay attention to that one thing that catches your attention you get better at hearing the voice of the shepherd Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us and unto us now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us and unto us now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us and unto us now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners snown in the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now in at the hour of our death. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now in at the hour of our death. Amen. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, as now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy. St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts, by the power of God, cast into hell, Satan, and all the evil spirits who prowl throughout the world, seeking the ruined souls. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Well, speaking of what struck you during the meditation, what caught your attention, Teresa? I guess it's one thing to clarify on that note, that what struck you or what sticks out at you in a meditation isn't the random thought that jumps into your head while you happen to be hearing the meditation you can't just say well well the priest is reading uh at mass or i'm hearing the bible and anyways i'm thinking about this comedy special i just saw that's true like the word of now i do it's got a flow from the word of god in your life can also strike you and it's not that god can't meet you there but what you're specifically saying is that you can guarantee if something sticks out at you from the word of god itself that thing's probably meant for you that was the one caveat i thought about that's a good point i thought this whole that's specifically for me because i'll be listening with one ear and the other ear is somewhere entirely different but with the whole of this meditation i just thought it was a great recalibration because many of us most of us have so many voices in our ear all the time And it's just this current of opinions and different perspectives and conflicting advice, whether that's about health or about the spiritual life and theology. And we get so caught up in all of these different people who are, quite frankly, mostly correct. Or they're just all looking at things from different angles and it's all really interesting. but it's overwhelming and sometimes you kind of conflict with something in a way that's scandalizing or jarring or you just can't wrap your brain around how it connects back to the faith and what's real and you start to think because you're so surrounded by opinion that things aren't objective but this is a really great recalibration because it sets you right back on all those people can be good and yet not the main thing you should be trusting and following which always goes back to read what Jesus said. Yes. Even the church is kind of set up in this hierarchy to always point very directly, very everything builds towards what did Jesus say. You can trust things within the church, but they're all really at the end of the day, just pointing back to what he said directly. And you're not supposed to stop halfway. There's a lot of people that might be kind of facing in the same direction. But that doesn't mean you should turn and just look at them. You're still both looking in the same direction towards Christ. This is the great power of daily meditation. Meditation simply means that we want to listen to Jesus and then really think about what he said. Yeah. And to make sure that we're spending time every day doing that. Because you're right. Probably more so than at any time in world history, there are more voices. I don't even know what word to use. Bombarding us. But it's all. Including us. We're doing it too. We're all doing it. And it's not to say that voices are bad, but keep your eye on the prize. Yeah, we need to be spending time every day listening to Jesus. And that's really a good, I mean, that's a simple resolution. I mean, you just did, everyone, including me and you, we just did listen to Jesus during this rosary meditation. but to make sure no matter what every day we do that. That is our North Star. That is what keeps us heading toward heaven. Well, thanks for the conversation. Thank you. Let's be apostles of friendship, good conversation, and the rosary. Share this with others. Thank you.
