And in today's episode I'm bringing you some expressions that use the verb estar. And what I like about these expressions is that they are very useful because you can use them in your day-to-day conversations. Actually, recently in the team we have been working on creating more a Coffee Break with type of videos for Coffee Break TV. In this episode we are going to be looking at other expressions. Three expressions in total and the three of them use the verb estar. Vamos a ver la primera. The first one is estar hasta en la sopa. I am a big fan of having soup anytime of the year. So I feel I have to start with estar hasta en la sopa. This literally means to be even in the soup. If something is even in the soup it means that it's everywhere. We use this idiom to express that someone or a certain topic is everywhere. It's mainstream. Let's see one example. Taylor Swift y sus conciertos están hasta en la sopa. Taylor Swift y sus conciertos means Taylor Swift and her concerts. And then we have our expression. Están hasta en la sopa. They are everywhere. They ask Taylor Swift and her concerts are everywhere. They are mainstream. Perfecto. That was our first expression. The next one is estar al oro. Me encanta estar al oro de las últimas tendencias. Here we are using the idiom estar al oro, which literally means to be to the parrot. Of course this doesn't make any sense in English. This expression means to keep yourself updated about a particular topic or that you are aware of something that goes on about something. So then, Me encanta estar al oro de las últimas tendencias means that I love to be up to date the latest trends or I love to be in the know about the latest trends. So just like to, you like to be keep in the loop of what's going on related to the latest trends. Las últimas tendencias. Let's see one more example. Estás al oro de la situación política. Here we are using estar al oro and then de la situación política of the political situation. So this can be translated as are you aware of the political situation? Do you keep yourself updated with the political situation? So as you can see, estar al oro is a very useful expression. Now, si alguien no está al oro de algo que está hasta en la sopa or in other words, they don't know what's mainstream, what's going on then we can use another expression estar en las nubes. Estar en las nubes or to be in the clouds is used to say that someone is distracted or not paying attention or that they don't know much about a certain popular topic. Vamos a ver un ejemplo. Como no sabes quién es ese actor, estás en las nubes? Como no sabes quién es ese actor that give us our context, it means how is it possible that you don't know who that actor is? And then we have our expression estar en las nubes. You have your head in the clouds. How is it possible that you don't know who that actor is? You have your head in the clouds. We can also use estar en las nubes as to be distracted. Por ejemplo, los trabajadores están en las nubes los viernes por la tarde. Los trabajadores workers están en las nubes are distracted los viernes por la tarde on Friday afternoons. Ok, perfecto. Then to wrap up, we have seen three expressions using estar. Estar hasta en la sopa to be mainstream to be everywhere. Estar al oro to be up to date. And estar en las nubes to be distracted. Bueno, pues eso es todo por este video.
