A Bridge Too Far | Critical Role | Campaign 4, Episode 14 Part 2

Here, the beautiful waterfalls of recent Gertel descend towards a cliff-plunge, some 200 feet, that will see them scatter on the western border of Helva. The water is cold, the ice cling to the sides up here at this high altitude. And we see before us the sort of spiring chapels in this gate house, beyond the gate house, probably up some, you know, not too far away, but up a small winding stone staircase in the side of the cliff. You see the sight of a massive eerie. And you see up there, Julian, in a moment, will get everybody's initiative. But those with high perception, Julian, Vales, you see up to here above, there is a massive series of nests. The nests appear to be about 20 feet in diameter. Oh! You? Birdies. Birdies. Birdies. Looking out, you see a column of Taconis soldiers walking out in front of you, and you see that right in front of you, Mosore, has just changed his accent and yelled an expletive. Oh, Julian, you are first to act as you see the night over here at the head of this marching order. I'm going to hold my action to have my blade at the ready kind of hidden behind with the cloak in front, holding the high in the demi gauntlet, and just kind of use that position to protect it. At which point pins mouth opens and like, like a snake's mouth opens up and a skeletal version of Octo's arm shoots out of pins mouth and grabs my brother's, uh, leg. I just couldn't, I forgot the red leg. Grants his leg and tears it. The muscle on his leg and I'm casting chill touch through pin. Hell. There's foot hair. We know. Uh, I love this. That's so dope. Yeah, you just, some of the fog there looks like the, the sandstorm and the mummy with the big face. Oh, my boss tells me, look, in advance on shy hallude or whatever I'm not doing it. Uh, We're in the middle of the fight. We have to leave. What, they're coming? Cool. What, there's a worse thing than the fight that we're in? My sisters are coming. Oh, sure. Uh, Agony, uh, Agony, uh, does not take a combat action on whatever, whatever you did to enmity, Agony delays her action getting out of the arrowfire, Julian, it is your turn. Is my turn? Mm-hmm. I'm just focused right now on the first semblance and venience I can get with my back to the edge and all this chaos happening around. I glance forward, then duck low, then leap up, and with my rapier hand clamber up onto the side of this edge of the rock, spinning down and getting low to try and knock him back with my other backhand from beneath my shoulder. So, hell yeah. And I'm giving up over on this side. Hell yeah. Uh, that is a nine. That is a nine. Uh, that would be seven. I will use one of my second wins. Well, he, so he got a nine, and you got a nine? Sorry, I got a seven. Seven. Gotcha. And then I'm using one of my second wins to use tactical mind to add a de-ten to it. He stumbles back towards the cliff. He is, you see his back, uh, armored boot slide. His heel is over the edge of the cliff. I go ahead and slide in the tube. Him and valus. And I'm going to go ahead and... I just very much make way. I'm just like, that glocky. I'm going to go ahead and... I'm going to go ahead and take my cloak, my, my, my kind of half look off the side, spin it in the gauntlet hand to obscure it for a moment. Hold the rape your up to his head and say, I know you worship death. I mean, do you have a favor and send you where you're supposed to be? And I'm going to go ahead and... thrust with the rape your towards him. Mm-hmm. But then, right as it gets in near his face, I'm just going to go ahead and get low and grab him, like, around the torso and attempt to shove him off the side. Yeah! The number you're trying to beat is a 12. That's a natural 17 for a 21. Woo! Yuff! Woo! As he flies over the edge, go ahead and roll 8d6 damage for me. And also, I'll say, yes, go for it. Roll 86 damage. Do we have to do a go find me to get mad second set of dice? I'm sure crazy is my last one. One at a time. All those dice are buying the screen. This is the biggest reward point. 31 points. How many jokes can we make before you can't do the time anymore? How do you want to do this? Yeah! So... How do you do do this? How do you do it? Okay, here's what I'll say. After I slam into his side and lift them up off the air, he slips off the back and catches himself on the edge with his one hand on the edge of the cliff. Barely about five feet down. And there was the wind blowing past my hair toss to the side. I stepped down about four feet onto the edge of the cliff and just looking down at him. One down. And I slowly clamp my foot onto his god-blooded hand and kick him off the edge. Oh, oh, oh, oh, mist water. You don't know if the impact with the water 80 feet below killed him, or if he had the privilege of drowning in that heavy armor at the bottom of the falls. Can I get a performance check? I just got to know. I got to know how I thought that was. I think at this point, there's that cold moment of an exhale, something in him healed just the slightest. And when that hint of a gleam of a tear on his left eye, he clicks back into the moment and then whizzks back and says, I'm going to put my hand down just the little bit that you were. Takes your hand and lifts up and pulls up into you. No, we can go. And with his hastened movement, he's just going to go ahead and dart. I think at this point. There he has 45 feet of movement. Oh, yeah, that's good. Going to dart up into the fog just to the edge there. 45, 45, 45. 45 gets you basically within the fog up on the bridge here. Great. Hell yeah. You see the guards can all hear someone charging through the fog towards them. And that is your turn. We move forward in initiative. Enmity looks up to see the same twisting plumes of black smoke coming through the sky towards the Haqval in Buche. And I just look at why are you calling them? She looks and says, I didn't. You're going to regret it. You see that she looks at you standing here valous and says, I'm in trouble. Are you all in in this place? Your house has turned against itself. Well, guess you'll have to figure that out. Not tonight. What cash is for him? And she is going to say, Ron sisters, as she takes off into the night sky. I also got damn stupid. And they're all wearing like toconus. Toconus and Sennia and armor. Yeah, they all basically dove for cover as a projectile magic, which I draw rocketed out of the fog at them. Hi. Well, I wanted to do it, so I'm going to do it anyway. I'm just going to keep, like, hmm. Because we still got the guys in the ballista too. The guys in the ballista are ready into fire. Yeah. Neither with line of sight on you. I'm having a great day. I could just kind of keep it pushing. These wild, while these, while these men have been cowed by a sudden active magic on their turn, they will reenter. Yeah, sure. Okay. Well, then, what's everyone I'm close to? I'm going to go ahead and put my boot on and use my loystaff to cast heat metal on a fully armored. Fuck. Yes. Oh, brutal. Is that a save? I'm just trying to save. That is a failure. Go ahead and roll down. It's not that much damage. That's so mean. I look. If Julian wasn't, like, so focused on, like, I need this for closure. So I'm sort of just doing this to, like, the edge of the castle. As you rush out and stand. As just, you guys can smell. Smells like a barbecue. Yeah. And with that, yeah, with that, like, barbecue and, like, heat and steam, the fog cloud dissipates. And I'm just going to look at the rest of them and go, you're going to want to stay down. Yes. Cool. That's me. Hell, yes. Cruelty turns to look at the, at the bridge, the fog cloud still standing there. Turns around and goes, I told you we should have gone north. And turns. And look, you see, octasus, you're about to run over the bridge. Right before you fade into the mist, you see that she turns into you and goes, by and walks off of the bridge. And even standing here, this burning metal underneath you, this aura of heat waves surrounds you as many of the spears miss their finding on you in this moment. That was even with some of them, the thin rolling advantage for banking. However, fog cloud dropping that I can see what's happening. Yeah, two two Tisha right now. Yes, you can. Okay, then I know it's not technically my turning combat, but can I say something? Yes, you can. Okay. So, uh, I'll just looking over there to see this goes as the highest ranking member of the Ticonus house currently present stands down. Okay. Uh, I'm going to ask for a persuasion check. Um, uh, Aaron, S.A. 5, 10, 5, 10, 30. She's going to rush up here and then take a ready action for when the way is cleared to dash again. Agony is going to heal herself, rush over here and tumble off the side of the cliff. I see you guys like a, uh, oh, me. Thank you. And that is going to be Julian's turn. All right, looking at the, asked to stand down to the men with the speeders who have been attacking Tysha, like they took the command. Only the Belista have these other guards down here have not been interrupted. I've been made their choice. Um, I'm going to dart towards the ones that attacked Tysha and just like rapidly, like going to a full run with the rapier to the side and go and try and spear through the one that's first up there. Hell yeah, I can meet you to that role. Uh, that's going to be as caught. Uh, natural one. Okay. I guess I catch the stone like, I turn into a tumble and make it look like I meant to do that. Uh, but I'm going to go forth that guy right there. That's my, this is for the demi-gotment off the side of my hand. So I just go ahead and punch him in the head. Yeah. Uh, that's going to be a 22 to hit. 22 to hit. Hell yes, 22 hits. That's going to be eight points of bludgeoning damage. Uh, eight point, bam, eight points of bludgeon damage to that guard. That is a hit or that he is still up. He is still up. No worries. I will use my, uh, hasted action to then turn around with the rapier and then try and kind of shank him more or less in the abdomen. Uh, that's going to be a 16 to hit 16 hits. All right. He takes that's going to be. 11 points of piercing damage. Uh, obliterated. Um, running up. Uh, that first one, I'll just expose his full abdomen inside and the length of the rapier to the basket. Hill goes through his midsection as he collapses, uh, dead in that instant. All right. I will then, oh, sorry, that was the one on bi-tai-sh. Oh, bi-tai-sh. That got you. Yeah. Um, and then I will then dart up and around with the rest of my speed to flank the one that's next to him. Also on tishot on this side. Great. So kind of over to that point. Okay. Um, to see if I can get the advantage from flanking on him. Cool. To then go and do an action surge and attack. Awesome. Uh, he will get a attack of opportunity on you for moving around. I guess you can move. No, sorry. Oh, sure. You can move through him. He's using a reach weapon. So he had five feet between him and tishot so you don't get an attack of opportunity. Okay. Great. Uh, with advantage on him, that would be, uh, 20, 20 hits. So with that, I get the sneak attack because I had advantage on that against him. That's going to be 12, uh, 12 points of damage. Uh, uh, skew it. Uh, you rush through and boom, uh, with the action surge. Uh, he is, uh, uh, drop both of those on that side of tishot, uh, have been slain in this turn. We're saying movement. I'm going to go ahead and kind of step up right alongside tishot like shoulder to shoulder, almost facing out the others with a blood on my rapier. I flick it off against the stone on the ground and look, she said stunned down. This is feelings hell. Yeah. That's matter. Um, uh, I'm just in the back goes, oh, uh, octaves. It's going to be you. Um, okay. So he just full run and dash towards the, the, the, the, the garrison there. 30. Okay. 30s here. Oh, and then dash. Yeah. Okay. You rush through the gate here. And as I run past the two of them, I just say, I'm waiting. It's, um, call me dumb one more time. Um, as it looks back to you with just the most fear you've ever seen on his face. Got it. And, uh, as I, like, the blade is still in him, I can go draw the blade, pull it back, and then just jam the blade a second time in with him, just, you know, from a narrative standpoint. Uh, that'll be, uh, 21 to hit. Uh, 21 hits. Uh, 10 to catch. I've advantage because I hit him with the rapier for the Vax. So just to roll again for the hell of it, that's natural once. It's the same. So that would be seven points of bludgeoning damage. Uh, toast. So he falls. I will use my, uh, my hasted action to go ahead and strike the next guy in the order. That's a natural 20. You, uh, once again, uh, just like golden moths and butterflies, composed of light, as you just, uh, the sword is flashing faster than the eye can see. Um, the bloodsprays and scatters about. There's the one guy standing there and I hold the rapier up in him and say, I leave one to survive to go back to your patron and tell the house. At the Venus, we'll see them fall now. And then I'll use the rest of my hasted movement, which at this point would be 50 feet or so. Yeah, to catch up with the rest of the trip. Whoosh. You rush out. Past octas. Uh, octas, you were the last one left on this side of the gate. It is your turn. Okay. There's one guard left standing in the two in the Baleastatowers. I look at the one last guard as I'm like, I'd like pause by the door for a second and look at that last guard and just. Good luck and I just take off. You rush through the doors. As you see the shadows of the gate behind you, you hear. Is there a mechanism within there to close the gate? The gate is actually there is no there's no there is a gate and a port callus. You see that there is the gate is open and there is also a rope holding the port callus up. As I run by, can I use my action to undo the rope? You absolutely can't. And so the port callus comes down. The port callus closes as as we exit initiative. Just for fun. Two twin sisters manifest. Just out of line of sight not being able to see over the bridge. Octus is your feet. You hear the faintness of someone casting detect magic and noticing Franz's name written in stone. As you see the up here you guys racing into the shadows as fast as you can. As you hear the blista, the blista operators up here. Shoot them. As the blista archers calling down saying, who goes there? Shout into the bridge looking through the dark as these two women look at each other here footsteps racing into the dark. I am going to need in this moment a group stealth check from all of you. The 19 on the die for Aaronessa. What did we get? 18. 18. 13. 19. 19. 30. 20. 25. Oh, okay, I'll just go. I will note, just as keeping this honest, hastily lasts for a minute. When it drops roll on a full sprint and something you watch, shullian, just like, follow the one knee. I'm using Capacitated for a run. I pick him up. Bayless, you shoulder Julian with one arm.
