I'm David Rothkopf, joined by Riley Fessler and Minna Stein. It's the middle of the week. We're in the middle of a mess here in this country, but we're going to talk about it, try to handle it in a rational, calm way. Right, Minna? I always do. Yeah, always do. She always does, folks, 24 hours a day. She's not screaming at the top of her lungs or curled up under her bed in the fetal position. Nope. I'm always reading the news in a calm, cool, and collected way. Yeah, exactly. Because what could go wrong? Where are we going to start? Immigration agency leaders face sharp questioning in Congress following the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis, with lawmakers from both parties criticizing enforcement tactics and calling for investigations. The hearings highlighted bipartisan concerns about roving patrollers, patrols, officer training, oversight, and the limited use of body cameras, even as broader immigration policy debates remained deeply partisan. Super irritating hearings to listen to. I listened to it, so you don't have to listen to it. But, you know, the Republicans were like, you guys are heroes and the guys on the panel who ran these agencies were like, I can't answer any of your questions because everything you want to ask about is an ongoing investigation. And the Democrats were, you're the Gestapo. You know, I'll admit it. I'm a little biased. I think the Democrats are right. I think they are the Gestapo. I think as Dan Goldman, a congressman from New York, said during the hearings, if they don't like being compared to the Gestapo, they shouldn't act like the Gestapo. But they do. And, you know, even here a day later, you know, you have, you know, one of the dumbest congressmen out there, Mark Wayne Mullen, saying that he thinks it's fine that people should be stopped in the street and ask for their papers like it was Nazi Germany. He said, after all, everybody's got an ID, right? And you can't get on a train without an ID, right? It's just there is a divide here. And while I think hearings like this need to take place, they need to take place in some kind of way that people are compelled to respond. And, you know, I think, you know, again, Congress has the power of the purse and Congress should, you know, withhold money from agencies that don't answer their questions and don't participate in oversight. Not that we do that. We talked a little bit yesterday, by the way, on Need to Know, which will go public later today. It was on our sub stack yesterday for the past 24 hours with Simon Rosenberg and Tara McGowan and whether or not democratic strategies to force change at DHS were likely to work. We even had among ourselves a couple of different perspectives. I really encourage you to go and listen to that discussion, whether you go get it right now on the substack or wait till it on all of our feeds later today Riley The FDA has issued a rare refuse to file letter for Moderna mRNA flu vaccine rejecting the application because the clinical trial which enrolled 41 participants compared the shot to a product the agency no longer considers the best available standard of care. This decision comes amid a broader policy shift under Health Secretary RFK Jr., who has criticized mRNA technology and cut hundreds of millions in research funding. Moderna leaders expressed surprise at the move, noting that the agency had previously signaled support for the study design, which was backed by a $750 million investment from Blackstone. I mean, every day, every day, you know, I stop and go, you know, we have put the worst possible people in charge of the health care system in the United States. It's not just that they're idiots, although they're idiots. It's not just that they're partisan, although they are partisan. It's that they are both of those things and they believe in the most insane theories. They are anti-science. They're not just anti the mRNA science of, you know, 2026. They're anti the vaccine science of the middle of the 18th century. These guys are going to kill people one way or another. And if they don't do it on their own, maybe they'll do it when we start putting thousands and thousands more people into the concentration camps we're building across the country, having them sleep on the floor next to each other with inadequate medical care, because we've already seen outbreaks of things like measles and tuberculosis in these concentration camps. But to go back to HHS, you know, RFK Jr. is a lunatic. He's a lunatic. Nobody with any kind of scientific credibility believes a word that comes out of his mouth. And nobody in the Congress should either because he said, oh, I'm not going to let my views towards vaccines influence our behavior. Because it has. Because he lied. So the things he's not wrong about, he's lying about. That's where we are in health care. I beg you, folks, when you need health care, get a doctor you trust and ask them for their advice. And don't go by the guidance of the HHS or, you know, the other parts of this government. Because they are going to kill people. And we've already seen it with spiking rates of diseases that are absolutely controllable and plummeting vaccine levels in this country. It's one of the most pernicious, most dangerous things being done by an administration that seems to have two things on its mind, being pernicious and being dangerous. So, you know, beware, beware, get good health care. And, you know, as soon as there is a shift in control of the House, by all means, impeach these guys. RFK Jr., Dr. Oz. Oh, my God. It's like, you know, it's like, you know, putting murderers in charge of the police force. That's where we are. Nine people were killed in a shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia and at a nearby residence, and the suspected gunman was found dead from a self-inflicted injury. Several others were seriously hurt, and about two dozen people were treated for minor injuries. Authorities lifted a temporary lockdown, closed local schools for the week, and provincial leaders pledged support to the small community. Yeah, I mean, folks, this happened in Canada. This is one of the worst tragedies of its kind to happen in Canada. But, you know, once again, it's the guns. You know, other societies realize that giving lethal weapons to people, allowing them to keep them in their homes, allowing them to keep them and use them however they would like, does not serve a useful social purpose. It is actually dangerous for society. The notion that somehow you need a gun to go hunting is absurd. Nobody needs to go hunting. The notion that somehow you're going to use a gun to defend yourself is absurd. More people are injured by the use of firearms by people who say they're trying to defend themselves than by the use of firearms or other kinds of weapons by criminals. all the evidence that this is loony. And that's why, you know, in Japan, if you want to own a gun, they'll let you do it, but you have to keep it at the police station and go and explain why you're going to use it. In other countries, you're not allowed to do it, or they're super heavily regulated or people are super heavily trained in how to use it and there are grave limits on how they can use it We have the most wide open system here in the United States Canada is better than we are at this But we should take this incident as yet another reminder. We should take all these incidents as reminders that 90% of Americans, and I'm not speaking to the situation in Canada, but 90% of Americans want common sense gun controls. 90 percent. Why can't you get them? Why can't you get something 90 percent of Americans want? The arithmetic of democracy would suggest that would make sense, right? Except the Congress has been paid off. And this happens in other places as well. Anyway, condolences to the victims, condolences to the people of Canada. We hope they tighten their regulations. we can only pray for the day when common sense and basic human decency starts to change the attitude towards guns in the United States where it is a pathology. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Letnick recently confirmed during Capitol Hill testimony that he visited Jeffrey Epstein's private island for a family lunch in 2012. Hey, kids. Hey, kids, let's go over and visit Uncle Jeffrey. You know, he's a great guy. He brings his kids. He brings his nannies. They go to an island. Wait a minute. It was 2012. You mean it was seven years after Jeffrey Epstein was convicted of being a child molester and trafficker? That's who Lutnick is bringing his kids to go visit? My parents never brought me to visit child molesters and traffickers, thankfully. Sorry, I interrupted you, Riley. Go right ahead. A revelation that contradicts his previous assertions of severing ties with Epstein in 2005. While Lutnick maintains that he had no professional relationship with a financier and has not been accused of any wrongdoing, the 2012 visit occurred four years after Epstein's conviction for soliciting a minor. The disclosure, stemming from over 3.5 million Department of Justice documents, has sparked bipartisan calls for Lutnick's resignation, though the White House has affirmed that he retains the president's full support. Yeah, well, of course he does. You know, Trump said yesterday this is the best cabinet in history, and I can only think, well, it certainly stands out among cabinets in history. RFK Jr., Kristi Noem, Howard Lutnick, Pam Bondi, Pete Hegg says, You know, these are stars. I mean, not of a cabinet. You know, they'd be stars of, you know, a circus because they're clowns, except it would be a kind of dark horror show clown thing because these are dangerous, awful people. And, you know, they're liars. And Lutnick, you know, he got caught in a lie. Oh, I would never have anything to do with the guy. He lived next door to him. Next door. That was his next door neighbor. He participated in a business with him. He participated in philanthropic undertakings with him. He went to visit him. And when he was asked about this a year ago, he said, I never participated in any kinds of things like that with this guy. He lied. And, you know, should he be held accountable? Yes Will he No because this administration values lying I think the other reports however that are coming out from people who seen the unredacted files and remember the 3.5 million released are half of the files. They're another half we haven't seen. But in the 3.5 million that have been released, according to Representative Jamie Raskin, a man who does not lie, who tells the truth about these things, and has been deeply engaged, Donald Trump's name comes up one million times, you know, as people pointed out, as Tara McGowan pointed out on our podcast yesterday, that's more times than Jesus is mentioned in the Bible. That's more times than Harry Potter is mentioned in the seven Harry Potter books. These should not be called the Epstein files. They should be called the Trump files, or they should be called the Trump Epstein files, or they should be called the Trumpstein files. But I will tell you something, this story is not going away because every single day somebody dives a little deeper and finds somebody else who is involved in this disgusting enterprise. And as we always say, first things first, let's take care of the victims, give them the accountability that they deserve, give them justice being delivered as they deserve. But at some point, we also need to stop and say, who buried this? Who made this go away? Who obstructed justice? Why did they obstruct justice? And all fingers in that regard. It's not just Donald Trump. Make no mistake. the Biden administration could have done more about this. The Bush administration could have done more about this. The Obama administration could have done more about this. But the important, you know, the heavy lifting of burying this occurred under Donald Trump. And there's a reason for that. He is involved up to his very tippy top of his head. You know, the part where I don't know whether it's a toupee. I don't know. It could be a rare fungus that's growing on his head. But whatever it is, he's involved to the top of his head. It's the illusion of hair. The illusion of hair. That's a product. Hi, buy Trump's illusion of hair. The latest product to go with Trump steaks and Trump watches. All those other great Trump products that you can get. Did you ever get your Trump watch, Riley? no no i didn't i i wonder they're still up for sale right let me google this in real time yeah no they could be you never know they sure are they still are and i know you love it i know you love a nice watch i do i don't i can't afford them but well these you might be able to afford I could get Trump's red beauty for $500, which seems like a steal. Yeah, somebody's stealing something there. I don't think it's a steal on the part of the consumer. Anyway. I'm sure even if you get your Trump phone, you'll never actually receive your, or not your Trump phone, sorry, your Trump watch. Well, you won't receive a Trump phone either. We know that. You won't receive the watch either. Yeah, no, he's pretty good at destroying things. You know, another story that's in the news this morning is that they're, you know, getting ready to fire almost everybody at the Kennedy Center. So that turned into a big flop. Will that ever get rebuilt on time? I doubt it. And he did release some new pictures of the ballroom, the greatest ballroom ever built in the world. not that that's something that anybody tracks but he did that was another of his high priority actions yesterday all right well you know we've got to go get into our day we've got a deep state radio podcast coming on the destruction of mankind we've got another need to know podcast coming up later today all our other podcasts coming up later in this week and we're creeping up aren't we? Riley, you sent me something yesterday sometime this month, next month, a month after we're going to get to 2 million downloads a month on all of our products, aren't we? Yeah, our YouTube is growing really fast so if you're not already watching on there you can see our smiling faces every morning while we deliver bad news. Exactly. It'll just make it easier for you and we've got some new stuff coming So stand by. There'll be some new podcast coming. All right, everybody. Thanks very much. Thanks, Mina. Thanks, Riley. Bye-bye.
