And today's lesson, it starts with one little girl who decided the sky wasn't too high for her dreams when she grew up! Oh Daniel, will you tell us a story? Hands in please! Our right legacy leaders, let's rewind and take a flight back in time! Way back in time, Destiny! One sub-connotype in Atchison, Kansas, in 1897! A girl named Amelia was born. From the start, she loved adventure. She climbed trees, built ramps for her sled, and sped down snowy hills so fast! It almost felt like she was flying! She collected frogs, insects, and even loved exploring barns! And sometimes, she'd explode a field near her home! She was full of energy, imagination, and courage! So she wasn't afraid to do things kids! They usually do back then! Exactly! Amelia believed that life was meant to be explored! And later, during World War I, she worked as a nurse's aide! She helped wounded soldiers! Ooh, that must have been hard! It was! And here's the thing, she listened closely when pilots came into the hospital and told their stories of soaring above clouds! That must have planted an idea of flying! Oh, it sure did! In 1920, Amelia took her first airplane ride! Imagine it, friend! She started the airplane for the very first time! As soon as I left the ground, I knew I myself had to fly! From that day on, flying became her mission! This stream wasn't just given her! She worked all kinds of jobs together! Oh, like we have to win! We want something! Like a vacation of special whits! That's right! She worked as a photographer, truck driver, really a truck driver! That's right! Even a secretary! Just to save enough money for flying lessons! Her teacher was one of the first female pilots! Ooh, that's so cool! And Amelia quickly proved! She was made for the sky! Ooh, and then she broke record, right? Record after record! In 1932, Amelia became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean! It took her 14 hours and 56 minutes! Could you imagine being as free as a bird? Imagine all the beautiful sight she saw! Wow, that's amazing! What an adventure! That's right friends! The world broadcasted and cheered her on! As she became the first person, man or woman to fly alone across the Pacific! She set altitude records, speed records, and it inspired millions! People everywhere saw her as proof women could do incredible things! Of course they can! She became a famous hero for kids and grownups! Yes, and she dreamed even bigger! In 1937, Amelia set out to fly all the way around the world! A journey no woman had ever completed! But Daniel Ihoads never came back from that trip! That's true destiny! During her last flight, Amelia's plane disappeared! Even though her plane was never found, her courage never disappeared! Who stories still inspires people everywhere! So her last journey did end to legacy! It made her a legend! One we still talk about today! That's right, Amelia showed us that no dream is too high if you have faith, courage, and determination!
