Summary

This daily drop episode covers major U.S. military operations and budget requests, with primary focus on a complex two-day combat search and rescue mission that recovered an F-15E crew shot down over Iran using 150+ aircraft. The hosts discuss military retention policies, emerging drone technologies, Space Force budget expansion, and President Trump's ultimatum to Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

Insights
  • Military recruitment goals have shifted upward across services, with the Air Force moving goalposts to the right rather than lowering standards as in past years
  • Human-AI collaboration in combat remains unsolved; pilots controlling autonomous wingmen while under fire presents overwhelming cognitive challenges requiring human-centered solutions
  • The U.S. military prioritizes personnel recovery regardless of cost or risk—150 aircraft deployed for one crew member reflects core American military doctrine
  • Space Force budget requests ($71B) reflect recognition of renewed space race competition and the critical need for rapid capability expansion in contested domains
  • 20-year acquisition timelines for basic military systems like grenade launchers indicate systemic inefficiencies in defense procurement processes

This is your daily drop for the 7th of April. We've got a lot of new folks here, so definitely appreciate all of you joining and turnin' in. This is probably not the face you were expecting to be on the podcast, you were probably expecting to see Aaron Love, who's been all over Fox News, News Nation, Newsmax, Afterburner Podcast, and all that, like he's doin' the media rounds, right? Well, there's actually three of us, and although Aaron is the better-looking dude, he is also the weakest and the slowest. Man, I don't make the rules, that's just the way it is. He's pretty feeble, but he's a good-looking dude, he's got PJ here, so you got Aaron, who's a retired PJ, you've got Trent, who's a retired special reconnaissance, and then you've got me, PJs, who's a retired combat controller. So, we are One's Ready, and it's our podcast. So, we do appreciate you guys being here. Before we get into the news, though, we'd love for you guys to head over to TastyGains.com. If you guys haven't heard, they got the best creatine gummies in the market, but then they also have the best metrophics in the market as well. And if your kids like taking creatine and vitamins, they've got kids creatine gummies as well. No promo code with those guys, just go over to TastyGains.com. They have done a third-party testing on all of their products, especially the creatine gummies, and it actually has more creatine in them than was advertised, because they want to make sure that you're not getting gypped. So, go over there and check them out. All right, if you're new to this, we have multiple things that we kind of do. We do daily drops, we do normal podcasts, and then we do normal podcasts with guests. This is just part of the daily drop that I try and get out daily, but it's never a guarantee. And usually you don't see my face here. Usually you just see a bunch of B-roll that we put on there because I'm doing it from my day job. But since I'm not at my day job today, you get to see me, which is unfortunate for you, because like I said, Erin is the better looking dude. All right, we're gonna kick things off the Army. The Army authorizes early re-enlistment for soldiers deployed in Operation Epic Fury. The United States Army now permits soldiers participating in Operation Epic Fury to re-enlist up to two years before their current service obligation ends. This policy supports retention during high operation tempo. I'm gonna make this bigger so it's easier to read. Operation tempo and ongoing conflict with Iran. The measurement aims to maintain experienced personnel in critical roles in a mid-sustain combat demands. There's nothing new about this. Like, yeah, great, the Army is doing that. The Air Force does that and has done that in the past as well. What I did see, and I don't think we're having an issue with retention right now, or an insane issue with retention like we have in the past, but what we are seeing is an increase in recruitment. And now, in the past, you could see the services kind of move the goalposts to the left to reach their goals and they would even then oftentimes miss them. Now, the latest that I'm seeing is that they want an increase across, at least in the Air Force, but I gotta imagine it's across all services. So they've actually moved the goalposts to the right quite a bit. So it'll be interesting to see in fiscal year 2027, which starts in October, if we actually meet those goals. We'll see. TBD. All right, next, United States Army seeks new grenade launcher and ammunition to counter drones. The United States Army continues development of a new grenade launcher system and associated ammunition specifically designed to destroy unmanned aerial systems. After two decades of efforts to field an improved capability, officials are narrowing options for this counter drone role. The system addresses evolving threats observed in recent operations. Two decades, 20 years, and you still don't have a solution or something like you've been deciding for 20 years. I get it, technology changes, acquisitions, process is broken, but dude, leave it to the Army to take 20 years to decide on a new grenade launcher system with an anti-drone ammunition. That's just mind blowing. All right, actually don't have anything for the Navy. Their public affairs has not been reporting anything. So that's where I get all this information from this public affairs that gets published throughout all the services. All right, Marine Corps, Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer graduates from Marine Corps Basic Reconnaissance course. The United States Marine Corps Sergeant Dakota Meyer, the second youngest living Medal of Honor recipient graduated from the basic reconnaissance course at Camp Pendleton on April 3rd. The demanding 12-week program qualified him for the 0-3-2-1. I'm sure there's a different way to say that. If you're a Marine, the 0-3-2-1, 0-3-21, reconnaissance military occupational specialty. Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Carlos A. Ruiz, attended the ceremony for class 26, tack 26, two tack 26. Well, congratulations Dakota. You don't know me. I don't matter to you. But good job. I don't wonder what it's like for you though, being a Medal of Honor recipient, having then separated the Marine Corps and not just being a Medal of Honor recipient, but also kind of extremely well known. Like it's not like you are a small following. You probably have the largest following of any of the recent Medal of Honor recipients. I'd have to imagine. So I wonder what that's like for you on a day-to-day basis. I will never know that, but interesting, especially now that you've come back in. All right, before we get on to the Air Force, you guys know that we train, or maybe you don't know because you're new here, we train future and potential Air Force Special Operations folks. We do it by using our Operator Training Summit, which you can register for one of our events at operatorstrainingsemit.com. Our next event is happening in Nashville at this amazing facility where we're gonna house people on turf, in a gym. It's in the same building as the pool and we're gonna take all day Saturday and we're gonna do running, rucking, calisthenics, all the movement standards, grass, gorilla drills, nutrition, mobility, mentorship, recruiter, all deal. That's all day Saturday. Then on Sunday, we're gonna spend about 10 to 12 hours in the pool doing mainly, mainly technique of things, but wall pushes, underwaters, mask and snorkel recovery, treading water, drown proofing, bobbing, buddy breathing, all of those and then we'll probably do some additional, alternative water confidence as well, which is always fun, but it's a great time, great facility, great host out there and slots are filling up. So don't miss out. You don't wanna miss this one. If you can't miss this one, we will have others, but I can't promise you when and I can't promise you where. So operator trainingcenter.com to get registered. All right, kicking things off with the Air Force or continuing with the Air Force rather. Air Force requests nearly $1 billion to begin procurement of collaborative combat aircraft in fiscal year 2027. The United States Air Force is seeking approximately $996.5 in fiscal year 2027 plus $150 million in advanced procurement to initiate buying of the first collaborative combat aircraft drones or CCAs. This marks the start of the production for semi-autonomous unmanned systems intended to operate alongside crewed fighters. The request aligns with broader efforts to expand affordable mass in contested airspace. It's gonna be pretty wild when these things actually get fielded and we start seeing F-35 pilots or seeing them fly with F-35s, F-22s, other assets that we have as a wingman with the pilots and having the pilots not just use AI to control them but actually control them as well and then be in a mutual support role to enhance the capability and the performance of the pilot. This is a very, believe it or not, a complicated problem that AI just isn't there yet to help out with. So what we've gotta do is we've gotta make the human better. How do we do that? Buy a multitude of different ways that we are actually getting after, believe it or not. We've actually taken some initiative to get past this problem or attack this problem. But you gotta think how overwhelming it can be in an aircraft when there's so much going on, you're getting shot at and stuff like that. And now I want you to now control an artificial intelligence drone that's your wingman or two of them that are your wingman. Like get a bit crazy, right? So we gotta figure out how to down, regulate, up, regulate, get that cognitive ability to get going and kind of chaff off anything that doesn't actually matter. So yeah, all right, Space Force. Space Force requests $71 billion in fiscal year 2027 budget with significant portion via reconciliation. The United States Space Force fiscal year 2027 budget requests totals $71 billion within the larger DRD proposal, representing roughly 80% increase over prior levels. Approximately $59 billion would come from the base budget and $12 billion through reconciliation with heavy emphasis on missile warning, launch procurement and in-shrink growth. Chief of Space Operations General Chance Salty-Sultman highlighted the need for rapid capability, expansion and resiliency, completely like Ray, when you think about what the Space Force is doing and what their mission is and how expensive it is to operate in space and put things in the space, it kind of makes you think like, boy, we may, and since we're in now a space race, again, that maybe we should put some emphasis on this and give them the budget that they are requesting. Maybe we don't quite need as many tanks, Army. Just saying, just saying, just a thought. All right, next, Pentagon seeks to expand the Office of Strategic Capital with over $20 billion in fiscal year 2017. A lot of money stuff going on right now. Of course, it is the season to start making requests for budgets and all that kind of stuff, but the Department of Defense proposed dramatically increasing the Office of Strategic Capital to more than $20 billion in fiscal year 2027, up from roughly $1.2 billion in loan authority the prior year. This expansion uses federal credit tools to attract private investment into critical national security sectors, including microelectrics, energy infrastructure and supply chains. The effort supports broader industrial based strengthening. Nothing being reported for the Coast Guard or the Secretary of Defense. Moving on to the President of the United States. President Trump issues ultimatum to Iran ahead of April 7th deadline. President Donald Trump warned, excuse me, I'm still getting over a cold. President Trump warned that Iran could be taken out in one night, that's a quote, and stated that such action might be tomorrow night, if no deal is reached by the Tuesday evening deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump expanded threats to include all Iranian power plants in bridges while expressing hope for a positive resolution. The remarks came from indirect communications continued amid ongoing operations in Operation Epic Fury. So this is kind of wild because President Trump drew a line in sand to do this, right? Take out power plants, if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened up, he's going to bomb the power plants and bomb all bridges or some of the bridges. Oh, he said all Iranian power plants and all bridges. So that's actually very doable. That's an easy, easy thing to do. What happens though, if they don't? I think that we will actually bomb it if it doesn't get opened up because the consequences of him getting, his bluff being, getting called is not worth it, in my opinion. I think if you make that ultimatum, you draw that line in the sand, you better be ready and willing to execute it. Because if not, then you're going to be seen as weak. So it's going to be real interesting to see what happens tonight. All right, next. President Trump praises Space Force contribution during Armadis two mission, which they're already on the backside of the moon or have completed their loop around the moon and are on their way back. During a call with the Artemis two crew after the mission reached its maximum distance from the earth, President Donald Trump highlighted the United States Space Force as very much related to the effort and described it, described its establishment as one of his most important decisions. I would agree with that. Trump expressed pride in the service's role supporting national space activities and the comments underscored the integration of military capabilities with civilian exploration. Exploration? Yeah, I agree that we needed the straightforward. All right, moving on to operational stuff. United States military conducts massive operation to rescue down F-15E crew member in Iran. Everybody knows that. And if you haven't, where the hell have you been? United States special operations forces in supporting aircraft executed a complex two day combat search and rescue mission to recover both crew members of an F-15E strike eagle shot down over Iran on the 3rd of April. The operation involved more than 150 aircraft including HH-60 whiskeys, which are the Jolly Green helicopters and forward arming and refueling point established inside hostile territory. That's stuff that combat controllers do all the time. Both the pilot and the weapon system officer were recovered safely despite intense Iranian pursuit and ground fire. Hell yeah, dude, there was a big ass firefight. And I'm looking forward to more and more of the details coming out, but it was impressive what everybody did. And if you're not proud of that, and then I got nothing for you. And I know there's talk about, we lost multiple aircraft and we put multiple people in danger to save one person and it's not worth it and stuff like that, but I'm here to tell you that is not an American mentality. We go get anybody and it's all hands on deck and we will destroy 600 aircraft to get one person out. That's what we do. That's what we sign up for. All right, last but not least, Department of Defense designates additional areas for danger pay in Iran conflict. The Department of Defense expanded eligibility for special danger pay or hostile fire pay to over a dozen new locations for the Operation Epic Fury, including Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. Troops in these areas now qualify for the additional compensation due to heightened risk. The update reflects the broadening geographic scope of operations and support activities. Dude, a hundred percent now for the people that are flying out of the States and going straight into the conflict. Like can they get a little bit of that too? I was just saying, it'd be nice. Anyway, that's all we got for today. Do appreciate you guys being here. And again, if you're new here, welcome.
