We are in loop chapter 20 But before we get into it as always we need Elf Dylan in the room Elf Dylan Merry Christmas, folks. Oh, thank you so much. It's always good to hear you say that all right Thank you. God, it gives you joy. God, I love the joy whoa This might be the best one we've gotten Jesus Bobblehead. Yeah, oh man. I'm loving this. Oh, thank you so much Elf Dylan I appreciate you that's super kind. Here's it. You know what? I might have to put this on the table right now. I got to do it. This might be the best one that we've been given so far Thank you, Elf Dylan. This is very thoughtful of you. I appreciate that This is cool. Now this is meant for your car, right? But you know, we can just temporarily set it up here Wow, thank you very very two and one Thank you so much Dylan and as always we're gonna be in the word of God today and Luke chapter 20 One day as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel the chief priests and the scribes With the elders came up and said to him tell us by what authority do you do these things or who it is that you gave or who it is That gave you this authority and I'll notice every time in scripture the Pharisees challenge Jesus They're doing it in an insincere way to try to trip them up. They're not sincerely asking questions They're just insincerely trying to trip them up. He answered them. I'll also ask you a question Now tell me was the baptism of John from heaven or from man? And they discussed it with one another saying well if we say from heaven He will say why did you not believe him? But if we say from man all the people will stone us to death for their convinced that John was a prophet He because everything that John the Baptist did Was evidence in a sign that he was sent from God everything that he did So they answered that they did not know where it came from and Jesus said to them neither will I tell you by what authority Do I do these things see if John was from God then he was right in saying that Jesus is the Messiah So we caught them he said look I don't have to tell you if I'm a sire or not look the fruit of my life Look at the fruit of John's life look at what John did you should know this by now you know what I'm talking about I don't have to say when I'm out. He said so cool You know Muslims always want to say where in the Bible does Jesus say I am God worship me My God Jesus Christ is bigger than having to say I'm God worship me through his actions He deemed himself worthy of worship we recognize his divinity Through his actions through the way he lived his life. It's beautiful. It's magnificent Then in verse 90 begins to tell a parable and he began to tell the people in this parable saying a man planted a vineyard this vineyard is referencing old Testament Israel A man planted a vineyard and let it out to tenants and went into another country for a long while when the time came He sent a servant to the tenants so that they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard But the tenants beat him and Sent him away empty handed and then he sent another servant But they also beat and treated him shamefully and sent him away empty handed and he sent yet a third This one also they wounded and cast out then the owner of the vineyard said What shall I do? Well, I said might be love its son? Perhaps they will respect him But when the tenants saw him they said to themselves This is the heir let us kill him so that the inheritance may be ours and they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them? He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others when they heard this They said surely not but he looked directly at them and said what then is this that is written and this is a quote from Psalm 118 That Jesus is going to say the stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone talking about himself Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken pieces and when it falls on anyone it will crush him that this is interesting Jesus gives a beautiful parable of Himself and the people that were in that parable that were led were tenants that went there that they beat beforehand would be considered the prophet Verse 19 I'd love this next passage. I think it is so crucial Scribes in the chief priest sought to lay hands on him at that very hour For they perceived that he had told his parables against them But they feared the people so they watched him and since spies who pretended to be sincere so they might catch him in something He said so as to deliver him up to the authority and jurisdiction of the governor so they asked him teacher We know that you speak and teach rightly and show no partiality but truly teach the way of God Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar or not Caesar's the leader of the government at the time? Would he perceive their craftiness and said to them show me a denarius? Whose likeness and inscription does it have they said Caesars? He said then the Narendra to Caesar the things that are Caesars and to God the things that are God you see what Jesus saying is look There's something that the governmental authorities require and Because God has delegated authority to the governments of the world Submission to those authorities that aren't letting to sin submit them If the governments of the world require something that isn't sinful Lend that submission because God has given them authority Give the Caesar what a Caesar said to God the things that are gods and they were not able in the presence of the people to catch him and what he said But marveling at his answer they became silent now verse 27 We're about to see the Sadducees so you have the fairsies and the Sadducees both sets of religious leaders of the Sadducees and Came to him some Sadducees verse 27 who denied that there's a resurrection and they asked him a question saying teacher Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies having a wife but no children the man must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother Now there were seven brothers First took a wife and died without children and the second and the third took her and likewise all seven left no children and died Afterward the woman also died and the resurrection therefore whose wife will the woman be for the seven had her as a wife Trying to trip Jesus up Jesus said to them the sons of this age Mary and are given in marriage But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead Neither Mary nor are given in marriage but they cannot die anymore because they are equal to the angels and our sons of God Being sons of the resurrection, but that the dead are raised even Moses showed in the passage about the bush Where he calls to the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob now He is not God of the dead but of the living for all lived in some of the scribes in him Teachered you have spoken well for they no longer dare to ask him questions. They were trying to trip him up And this is interesting, but then he said to them How can they say that Christ is the David's is David's son talking about King David for David himself says in the book of Psalms The Lord said to my Lord sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your foot so that's a quote from Psalm 110 verse one David thus calls him Lord to house he the son of God see revelation 2016 would tell us that Jesus is both the root and the offspring of David answering this question And then verse 45 to close and then the hearing of all the people he said as disciples beware of the scribes We like to walk around in long rooms and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at peace Who devour widow's houses and for pretense make long prayers they will not They will receive the greater condemnation they offer up lofty prayers to the appearance of godliness They were long robes for the appearance of royalty and godliness They like the greatest seats in the synagogues because they want people to see how holy they are True holiness and righteousness is louder in secret than it is in public Because character defends itself integrity defends itself and they want the appearance of godliness but denial its power Don't be like the scraps The one who's faithful to Jesus In private guys I pray that Luke chapter 20 was an encouragement to you and we'll see you guys tomorrow for Luke chapter 21 Hey, thank you guys so much for watching the Luke series I pray that this thing is a blessing to you in the ultimate heart is so that you go and read this word daily You don't rely on the podcast you rely on the word of God in the Holy Spirit Thank you guys so much for watching if you like the episodes subscribe follow us on social media and we'll see you guys in the next episode
