Summary

Dr. Chris Zaino discusses the power of coaching, mentorship, and breaking self-imposed glass ceilings in chiropractic practice. He emphasizes how identity shifts, body transformation, and authentic leadership drive both personal success and patient outcomes, while advocating for preserving chiropractic philosophy centered on innate intelligence.

Insights
  • Coaching and apprenticeship are the fastest paths to success across multiple domains; the ROI of coaching consistently outperforms self-directed learning
  • Burnout stems from practicing incongruently with personal values; aligning practice model with authentic desires cuts burnout by half and restores energy
  • Identity precedes behavior; shifting identity (e.g., 'I am a healthy 70-year-old') makes healthy actions automatic rather than forced
  • Physical transformation (body, nutrition, fitness) is a Trojan horse for metaphysical and business transformation; appearance reflects internal standards
  • Chiropractic's unique value lies in its philosophical foundation (innate intelligence, above-down inside-out) not mechanical technique; removing this erodes the profession's differentiation
Trends
Shift from transaction-based to identity-based coaching in health professions; clients seeking transformation not just informationChiropractors increasingly questioning inherited practice models (3-day protocols, dinner talks, high-volume) and customizing to personal valuesBody optimization as gateway to business optimization; practitioners recognizing physical health as credibility marker and energetic attractorChiropractic education drift toward mechanistic PT-style model; loss of philosophical foundation (innate intelligence, subluxation) from curriculaCoaching market expansion into lifestyle domains (dating, relationships, sexual fitness) alongside traditional business coaching for practitionersAuthenticity and vulnerability as leadership differentiators; practitioners sharing struggles and imperfections building stronger patient trust than perfectionNutrition and fitness sedation patterns emerging as diagnostic tool for deeper life dissatisfaction (relationships, purpose, spirituality)Practice revenue ceiling removal through delegation and systems; doctors discovering they can earn target income in 3 days/week vs. 5-6

So today we have the opportunity of interviewing Dr. Chris Zaino. And if you want to hear a conversation about coaching and mentorship and breaking glass ceilings, stay tuned for the full episode. Welcome back. Another episode of the ChiroHustle podcast. Today I have Dr. Chris Zaino on with me. This guy has really proven to be a force of nature within this natural healing art called chiropractic. And really tons of great information that we're going to talk about today. I'm really focused on coaching and mentorship. Something I think a lot of times people need to do is break that glass ceiling and ways to get through those thresholds of life. We're going to dial into some nutrition, talk about this mysterious world of peptides that a lot of people are curious about, that I think you have a lot of information you can share on, and talk about your career and get down to the basics of why chiropractic philosophy is vital to the world. But before we get into the episode, talk about those topics, I'm going to let you know our big why. And if you listen to the show, you know I do this every time. I tell you why we do what we do. Well, supporting freedom of speech is so important. We know what it's like to see that kind of erode. And I know that with the chiropractic messaging, there's been 131 years that people have always tried to manipulate the messaging of chiropractic. So Chiro Hustle has never done that. And bringing great guests like Chris on today is going to help further that mission. We also support the Sacred Trust. It's BJ Palmer's last written words. And how long have you been practicing, Chris? 21 years. So even if you've been practicing for two decades, go to ChiroHustle.com, click on the show notes where it says Sacred Trust, and you might just fall back in love with this amazing profession. And if you've been practicing for a day or 10 days or 10 years, go over to chirohustle.com and listen to some episodes and find your why of why you do what you do for chiropractic. Philosophically speaking, we do protect and support subluxation-based chiropractic. I know I shouldn't have to say this, but they're taking it out of the schools and the lexicon and the education, and they are treating it as an antiquated topic. and that goes into innate intelligence and universal intelligence and the educated intelligence. We believe that when man or woman, the physical gets adjusted, it connects them to man or woman, the spiritual, and that is chiropractic philosophy. So if you know a chiropractic student that's not getting that or a recent grad, please share the show with them. And with that, this is episode 787 of the ChiroHustle podcast. Dr. Chris Zeno, welcome. Hey, what's up, Jim? Dude, 700 plus episodes. That's great. Yeah. That's some, that's some, that's some street credit right there. That's great. Good for you. Proud of you. You know, it was never about me. You know, that's why I bring guests on. I thought about that early on. I was like, dude, what if I go on every day and make a podcast and I just make it about myself? It's I'm going to lose my enthusiasm for it. Oh, sure. A lot of pressure to kind of keep on making shit up, Yeah. So I love that I can bring guests on and we can talk about chiropractic and stay on topic and, you know, focus on one thing. That's great. All right, man. Have a good time. It's been fun for me doing this type of production for almost nine years now. Coaching. I know you are in that world, mental coaching, physical coaching, production coaching. Like talk about your coaching world a little bit. Coaching to me was the absolute lightning speed that got me to the top in many areas. So, you know, someone came up to me, I don't know, like maybe 10 years ago and they're like, hey, you know, you hit the kind of, you hit the top in different areas, you know. Chiropractors know me in chiropractic, but, you know, then, you know, there's bodybuilding that you guys might know about. There's other things, music that you don't know about. There's a couple other things. And they're like, but you hit kind of the top. And the top could be just maybe being the 0.01% of the 0.01% that achieved certain things that a lot of people may never get to. And they're like, so what's the secret sauce? And I go, what do you mean the secret sauce? He's like, well, there's got to be a secret sauce. You must be an unconscious competent in a way where there's probably some type of sauce or method you do that you don't realize it. I'm like, you know, I never thought about that. And it came down to, I think, the greatest thing or process or person someone could have in their life is the ability to apprentice. It started with apprenticing, right? So in the beginning with chiropractic, I did not have, you know, 30, 40, 50, 60 grand, 24,000 to hire a chiro coach, you know, and trust me, they're worth it. I charge the same. But I did have the foresight to think, hey, listen, I'll go to an office that I appreciate, you know, like an office, kind of an office that I would like to have. You know, and back then I liked the whole high volume thing. I mean, that was the first type of chiropractic I was introduced to, right? So I understand it just would help me. So therefore, I'm going to be biased to that. So people who do activate and all like, this is not a knock on anybody. I'm just saying this is what I was. I'm Italian. So I like Italian food, right? I'm not being racist or prejudiced. I'm just saying like, that's the type of practice I wanted. So I found an office that ran a way that I would really like to do. And if I couldn't afford to coach with them, but I could sure give them sweat equity. So I worked for him for free. And I would do things. I would go on the screenings on the weekends and screenings suck. They're still not a great screener. But I'll tell you what, working with them and apprenticing, I learned everything that school wouldn't even attempt to teach you. So really school became something, Jim, that I just knew that school, I just needed to get a piece of paper. That's the whole thing. Don't ask me my grades. I just wanted a piece of paper. That piece of paper will now give me the right and the ability to become an entrepreneur and use chiropractic as the business I do. But as far as running a business and knowing about business chiropractic and getting new patients and marketing and all this stuff, I got that working with the doctor or the doctors that I apprenticed. So everything in my life, and that started like when I did bodybuilding, I had a coach. Why do I have a coach? Because a coach, they see things that you can't see. And if they're talented enough, they pull the greatness out of you, and they pull the potential out of you, and they keep you from sabotaging yourself. What do I mean by this? So I'll use bodybuilding. So bodybuilding, if I didn't have a coach, because I'm pretty tough on myself, I would start dieting for a show a lot more. I would take six months. I would probably diet too much, eat too little. I would probably do too much cardio that I shouldn't have done. I probably would starve myself more, and I would probably take more drugs. All this stuff, because I'm using myself to do it, but versus having a coach, they were able to strategically get me there. And the best thing with a coach is when they tell you week to week, don't change anything. That's the best thing. Everybody's looking for something to change. No, just don't change anything. But, but Jim, should I do this? Or should I like, we'll go back to Kyra. Should I do another talk? Or should I do this, this thing I heard online? No, Jim, you're doing great. Stay the course. But, but, but no, I'm impatient. Stay the course and build, don't build a house of cards, build a strong foundation. So every year of my life, so bodybuilding, I had a coach, chiropractic, I had a coach, always, even when I got divorced, you know, when I got divorced and I had to start dating and I was having, we call it closet sex. I don't know, for those of you that are married 18 years, when you have kids, it's like, okay, they're watching something. Let's go in the closet and have sex. And so now it was all these other things. I didn't, I had to learn how to date again. I had to, you know, the whole Tinder online shit, all that stuff. So I, yes, I got a dating coach and a sex coach, like a sexual fitness coach. And because I wanted to be the best I could, I realized like I only had one shot at certain things. I had to create that impression. I had to get over some insecurities. You know, what's this girl going to, like, how am I going to stand out amongst a thousand other guys? And so, you know, there was all these things I learned. And I'll tell you right now, all those things, all the coaching I've got, Jim, I would not absolutely be where I am today if I didn't have someone who is just someone I could trust, who could see things differently, could help me see the things I didn't see and guide me in a certain way to get to my goals where I want to be. So the return on investment of coaching was always the best things in the world. And I provided that point for, I took all the great characteristic traits that I had in coaching. And I realized one of the greatest ones was to just be able to hold a space for someone and tell them, hey, this is a clean white room. There's no right or wrong. There's no good or evil, judgment, guilt, shame, comparison, jealousy, coveting. Like this is a place where you could be you. You could tell the truth. If you killed someone, I'd say, okay, I got a shovel. Where do you want to bury them? Like it's just a place that I hold for mainly men that they can express themselves. They don't have to put on the fake smile and we could really get to the truth of everything. And when you hit the truth and you're able to face that truth, that gives us the actual foundation to transition and grow from. So yeah, coaching, Jim, it's always been a part of my life. If you ask me now anything, hey, let's start an ice cream store. I'm like, okay, great. What's a good one? And let's go, I'll go work. I'll go work for two months, three months. So I just think that's always been just the key to everything. I think it's the curiosity in you. Yeah. And the willingness to do work. And when you take curiosity and you pair that with the willingness to do work, you can go do what you want to do because now you have learned experience. And I think that that's really important for people to understand. I guess the question flips now to now that you have experience and you're going into a different chapter of your life, what does it mean for you to be a mentor to other people that seek guidance? Oh, I saved them decades. And they learn from my mistakes, especially if it's been a profession or a lane that I've been in for quite some time. And I can really save them a lot of time, a lot of mistakes. And at the same time, a very important thing to be able to coach, too, is you always want – I had some chiro coaches, believe it or not, that they wanted to coach you. But when you started getting to the level they may have gotten at, or you started collecting more money than they once did, all of a sudden they got weird. You follow what I'm saying? So I was like, man, I am voting for your victory. Like I just, I pulled up, you know, here, you know, I don't post a lot of things because I keep everything super quiet and private just because I don't want to be the guy online. just, you know, I say I'm celebrating my clients, but really, what are they doing? They're putting their stuff out there to brag on themselves. So I don't do that. I keep it quiet. But like, I just had a client, he had $380,000 last month. Dude, I never, I think 330 was my highest month. And I was like, holy shit. But, and here's the thing, this wasn't, now I'm helping him with chiropractic and coaching. But Jim, this was just doing the nutrition and lifestyle stuff. Let me say that again. This was just me working on the body. Because when you look at it, every conversation has to start with the body because it is the only place that I don't have to ask my spouse. I don't have to ask anybody's permission. It's the only thing I have total control over. Not knowing, like you said before, when you get that body in check, everything else, all areas of your life start to rise. So when he started and when he really got like he lost like let say 14 pounds and everything was changing All the things I told him would change And then now the clinic Hey I doing great I closing more clients You know I got asked to do here. People are commenting about me a lot more, you know, Hey, what are you doing? What did this like? He started becoming a representation of what he does in his office. And then he just hired me then for, for, for a clinic coaching, but the whole thing started with the body. And when we see people winning or making great feats and hitting amazing goals, like, man, I vote for all you guys' victory. Like, I am, like, I love when people do things that I never even dreamed of because then I get to live vicariously through you. Not to, like, to bring his name up, but in a positive way, like Tiger Woods. You know, you got to understand, like, his coach didn't play golf better than he did. You know, Michael Jordan's coaches didn't play basketball better than he did. However, they had the talent and the eye to be able to bring out their potential, to see the blind spots, which mainly it is, and to see the areas they were sedating and to be able to turn those things back on again. And it's all by holding that space of truth, not kissing their ass, just to kiss their ass. And when you hold that space of truth for someone, no matter what it was, body, relationships, anything, and someone could have that person to be truthful and hear the truth, that's when things start to change and they change rapidly. Well, I think it kind of takes us into the next topic is breaking glass ceilings. And off camera, I said, well, if you put a pumpkin in a jug and you water it, it only grows to the size of what that jug is. And it won't grow anymore. It will just stun its growth and it will just like fill the complete space of that jug. And it's like, you know, the other analogy I used was repotting a plant. When it outgrows its plant, if you don't put it into a different plant or like actually put it into the earth and let it grow outside, it will eventually die and it won't produce leaves anymore or flowers anymore. So breaking glass ceilings, it sounds like you had one experience with this guy that broke a glass ceiling with getting through his body and then it got through to his business. What does it mean for you when a client actually does break that glass ceiling? It's the best in the world. And so many chiropractors, including myself, when you said that and talked about the pumpkin and being restricted and confined to the environment that you're in, dude, you absolutely nailed it. and there was a, I think I forgot someone posted something online and it was very simple. It's like, why the hell do we do this in every office? Like, I'll just use an example. Why is there a, why do we, why do we see, why do we tell someone to see someone three times a week? Or why do we do a three-day process? Day one, then day two, then day three. And when you look at it, it's like, holy shit. I did because someone told me to. And I always go back. I'm like, you know, like I think everybody took what CJ Mertz did and then just copied it, you know, and then it was like, there's, there's a day one and day two and this and that. And I was like, wow, you know, it was such a good question. And I love this. Everybody who's watching now, Cairo, look at your office and really, really sit down and ask yourself, why are you doing the things that you do? Of course, I know why you're just doing, but like, why is your day one the way it is? Why is it a day two the way it is? Why do you like whatever that is? And a lot of times, how many things you're going to find out in your practice, it's because something someone has told you, or that's the way everybody was doing it. Therefore, like Jim's saying, there's just kind of the pot we're all grown in. And how many of you actually sat back and said, you know what, I'm going to start with a clean white canvas. And I'm going to like, this is the way I would run my practice exactly the way feels really good for me. And then if it feels good for me, and I'm congruent with it, and I have the permission to do so by giving myself permission to do so. I think I could make practice a lot more fun. And because I believe in everything I do, the way I do it, then I'm sure I could lead people in a much better way because there's so many practices that like, yeah, well, I have to do it this way. I'm like, what do you mean you have to? And that's another part, Jim, is like a lot of times no one sat down and no one has told someone, hey, Jim, what do you want? Well, what do you mean? No, what do you want? And don't give me a successful one-to-one answer. It's just like, tell me the truth. What do you want? Well, they feel that i kind of i love people and i want to spread the world of car what do you want dude you give me a successful answer i would love to work maybe three three days a week great let's work three days a week you know it's like there's so many cars i find that they feel bad getting a sports car they feel bad just wanting to work three days in the office they feel bad asking for sure everybody wants to charge three thousand bucks it's like you've been charging thirty five $700 for 15 years. However, an E-Class Mercedes went from $60,000 to $160,000 and you can't go to the grocery store for under $100. So it's just like, why? What makes you think that way? Well, because even stuff with me, I've been trying to do these dinner talks. I'm like, hey, dude, why? Because you did them. I'm like, I don't want to do dinners. I got a nine-month-old, beautiful little girl. I don't want to be out till 9 p.m. at night. So it's like, you know what? I will not do dinner talks. I would love to do a talk at 12 noon every Tuesday. And that's what I do. And I get to be home. I get to see my little girl. I don't have to repeat the things that I felt I slightly regretted when I practiced at the peak. So it's like, there's so many of you that are watching in a good way. It's like, if I gave you permission to run the practice the way you wanted to, what would it look like? It would probably be a lot different. And it's like, so why are you doing this way? And like Jim said, oh my God, I've been, I got coaching, whatever. And not that you do bad things at all. It's just like, wow, you know, here was a model. Here was, here was an environment. Here was boundaries that I was taught to fit into these boundaries. I was a square peg in a, in a triangle hole. And even though it was successful, modeling is successful. You ever hear you want to model someone model modeling, even though successful, it's still an underdeveloped identity. It's not even your identity. You're practicing the way someone else could. And even though you're getting success, maybe people are signing up, but at the end of the day, it doesn't prevent burnout. A lot of docs that are burnt out, I realized they'd just been doing something that deep down wasn't exactly that they would do it. Yes, it brought the income in, but now I was talking to Dr. Tabor, a partner of mine the other day is like you know what i want to do a talk on like life mastery i'm like then do it screw screw the other talk you're going to do because it's kind of like why do you want to do it's like because i've been watching this coach and just talking about life mastery and like that that excites me i'm like bro let's do it scratch it scratch it we were going to do some talk on some spinal mechanic shit but it's like dude do it it's fun you're great like so that's what i'm talking about jim it's like when your analogy of being the pumpkin in the jar it's like when you could sit back and see your environment. There is no ceiling. If there was no ceiling, what would you do in the playground that you call a practice? I see burnout almost get cut in half. People get excited again. Collections follow. And they're spending their day with some amazing patients that are really the patients they like. Well, as you were talking, a lot of things came up to me. And one of the most important things that I've learned over time, because I've mentored with some great people. I've had some amazing coaches. One of my lifetime mentors is John Demartini. Great. And what you explained there was called the traits of the greats. You go and learn from what other people are doing. You decide if it's good or bad or neutral. And then you decide whether it's something that you're going to do more of or you're going to learn from and not do it all. And I think that just because somebody is great, like we talk about a Jordan or we talk about a Woods, we also look at the equanimity of their behaviors in the world. And we say, wow, they're great at the one thing that they do in the world. But gosh, I don't want to model how he acts in his home life. And I don't want to I don't want to model the greatness that he doesn't have in his personal world. So I think there is like a method to finding out when people do have coaches. And if you have a coach that's well-rounded, now you're getting functionality within your life. But like you said, if the body's not good, most things don't go well. So you got to really focus on the one thing you have a hundred percent control of, which is you and the six inches between your brain are your ears, which is your brain. And that's really your control zone. Yeah. You know, I speak to a lot of docs and they, they do the coach hopping, right? They go from this coach to that coach. And they usually say, well, they're doing all these coaching and they're finding something wrong with the coach. I'm like, listen, there's nothing wrong with the coaching system. Like they're giving you what worked for them. Come on. Like, like, and it just, if you didn't agree with it, then you shouldn't, like, you felt that you had to take what they, they were just saying what they're good at, what they were great at. and that's why like it always starts with the hey what do you want well i want to do the dinners they're not you don't want to do dinners like i do it just happened to be what i did then it's just like what do you want and then when you find out what someone wants and then you okay great and then the fun part is saying i know you think having a life like that is crazy and impossible and if you knew how to do it you would have been there i'm like we're gonna do it we're gonna do what do you mean yeah we're gonna get to the point where you're working three days a week but your office, your office could be open seven days a week doing other things, some modalities without you being there. So it sounds like such a, like, really? I'm like, yeah. And I go, you're probably a lot closer than you think. And a lot of times I'll use an example when doctors are like, well, what do you want to make? I always ask. So just, and they'll give me some very even number. I'll just put out there. I want to make a million a year. All right. Or I want to do a hundred thousand a month. So why do you want to do that? What's that do? And these are very, like, who gave you that number? I don't know. Like, and they're like, oh, I don't know, but what you think you'll have freedom at a hundred thousand a month. Sounds good. And then I'll have them do, I go, I want you, I do something called a life script. I'm like, I want you to create this life that you want. And I go, and I want you to figure out the overhead of living, living that life. So if I wanted to, you know, travel once, once a month, whatever that, whatever life would be like, this would be the ultimate. Great. Right out there. What's the ultimate. Great. So just what would be like really figure out what's the overhead of living? no, just do it. And then they do it and they come back to me. They're like, it was $52,000. I'm like $52,000 a month personally to live your dream life. Everything you want to do. You got the sports car, you're taking care of your wife and kids. They're going to private school. You guys get to travel, all that. Let's say $52,000 a month. Great. I go, so the goal is you only need to take home $52,000 a year. I don't mean only. I know that's a great number, but you don't need $10 million a year. A lot of guys think they need $10 million. I go, you don't need $10 million yet. I go, you need $52,000 cleared a month. So number one, I make what their dream is a lot. It's like right around the corner. Okay. So what's the gap? So what's the gap between you are now and then, okay, dude, you just need to make $22,000 more. All right. So how are we going to do that? And then, so I may, so no one ever takes the time to actually sit down and figure out, Hey, what do I want? How do I want to live my life? How do I run my practice. And then when they figure out what they want, if they do without scaring themselves. And I said, don't, don't worry about the how, then they don't reverse engineering it to see how close they are. One of my clients, she wanted to live in Rosemary beach. Like, when do you think you could do that? I don't know. You know, when I retire someday, I'm like, figure it out. And then she gets back to me. She's like, I could do it now. I'm like, you can do it now. And she did it. So a lot of times you don't realize everybody's watching this, your promised land and the dream you want is in front of you, but you are so damn stubborn and caught up in other shit and online and looking at social media that you don't realize that you just got to give yourself permission to live the life you want. Or why is burnout, Jim? That's the number one cause of burnout. Burnout is just, you're uninspired. I mean, shit. Like, Jim, you do what you love to do. You have all this energy. Like we're talking right now, I'm sweating because we have more energy talking about something that we love to talk about. I love hanging out with Jim. So this is energizing. Just to let you know, I was just taking a nap before this. I was freaking exhausted from this morning because I was not too inspired of what I was doing. Jim, we get on the call. It was like I drank seven cups of espresso. Why? Because when you're doing what you're inspired in doing and you're inspired with, you tap in like Jim was talking. Universal energy. You don't lose it. I mean, and it just gets better and better. And that's where creativity, all this stuff comes from. So these are the big things, Jim. You know, when we go back to sports and look at Jordan and Tiger Woods, they were obsessed in being the best in their sport, but they just didn't have someone to say, what the hell are you doing, dude? You know, Michael Jordan had 52 back in the day there. He had 52 cell phones to run his mistresses around or communication. So he worked really hard at cheating. Same with that, you know, like, it's like no one was there. Like, that's why it's so good to have people in your life that will not bullshit you. And some you might have to pay for it because you don't have those people in your life. And that will tell you the truth. You've made it to Cairo Hustle. Hey docs, let me ask you something. Are you adjusting patients but not adjusting your revenue? Because a lot of chiropractors are still undercharging without even realizing it. They're accepting insurance allowances that are just too low. And they hesitant to raise the fees because they worried about pushback from patients The problem is when your fees and financial systems aren aligned it creates a slow leak in your practice And when you try to grow more marketing more patients maybe even another location, the leak gets bigger. There's actually a smarter way to handle this. ChiroHealth USA helps chiropractors charge appropriately when insurance is available while still serving cash or limited benefit patients through a compliant discount medical plan. The results? Many practices see revenue increases around 15 to 20% without adding more visits. Same patients, better margins, more freedom. If you want to stop leaving money on the table and build a practice that's both profitable and compliant, check out chirohealthusa.com to learn more. Well, I think that there's a lot of things that you're saying that are hitting home for not only me, but for other people that will listen and watch this. But the big thing that I pick up from you is it's something I say about myself a lot is your belief is greater than somebody else's disbelief. And you really believe that you can see the potential in somebody that, you know, it's just around the corner for them. You know that it's just a change in one identity or one idea or one thing that will motivate them, but they're stuck in their own systems and on their own grid that they walk and they believe the belief grid is different than the momentum grid. And a lot of times people's beliefs stop them from actually doing the one thing that could get them to having this prosperity that you're talking about and this abundance and this quality of life, but you have to build it on a solid foundation and you have to have an unwavering belief in yourself that anything is possible. And I think that that's something that comes into the next part of this I want to talk to you about is nutrition. Would you say that that's one of the hardest things for people to get under control when it comes to getting them to physically develop and to become who they're supposed to be? yeah I think nutrition fitness and I'll tell you why it's a great way to sedate so you're not happy with your marriage you're not happy with the office you come home and you're just like you want to sedate so some guys will pick porn some will just eat shit food some people won't eat some people find alcohol like you do things to just get a break and you start to sedate and something that should be useful to you to make you better becomes something that actually works against you, such as nutrition, right? And then fitness, you know, fitness to me, it's not the, it's not the actual, I care less about the muscle. It's that when I go, every time I tell my wife, this I go every time I go to the gym, it's a win because I have never, I never feel like going to the gym. I I'll even sit in the car for 10 minutes and check messages. Like I'll do whatever to procrastinate. So it's like every time I go, it's a win. And just building that consistency and showing up for yourself. And then when you're done with the workout or when you're eating good and you feel so much better, you're like, wow, how come I haven't been doing this? Or like when you eat good for a lot, how come I haven't been doing this? I feel great. And that feeling of great or higher vibration spreads to every part of your area of your life. but that's one of the things we'll self-sabotage in ourselves and it's everything that's all easy to do it's like it's easy to walk on a treadmill it's easy to move away from a to b it's easy to eat a certain type of food but super boring you know so you don't have that why behind it's easy to do it's easy not to do and it's the consistency of it and the big thing about chiropractors and this is not like and I'm not trying to be like some other people on social media they're like oh you need abs to be a good chiropractor it's not that but the truth is and I say this with love when someone walks into your office your body is disgusting it's disrespectful and it's disgusting and how are you going to lead people what are you going to say you got a thyroid condition. It's like, it is a direct, is a direct, is a direct reflection of the standard you hold for yourself. And therefore the standard you hold for others. You're not going to get patients by, you know, you know, making them feel good and unhealthy like, like they are. So it's something, especially when you're in the, in the fields of, of health, you know, if you eat correctly and if you take care, if you take care of you, that means you get adjusted. That means you're putting food by God in your body. That means you're moving. You're going to like the fruit of that is someone like they could see that. We could see it immediately. You don't have to say what you eat or do. We could see you and understand that. You follow what I'm saying, Jim? So it's like, there's a lot of it. It's a lot of it. And there's some really good cars I love. And I had that conversation. I'm like, dude, we got it. This is why, Jim, you asked, because I asked him like, dude, we got to get your body better. Like, we got to get some – I know, man. It's just tough. I go, what's tough? I go, and I go right to it. It's not tough. I go, what are you sedating? And the truth comes out. They have relationship issues. They have purpose issues, spiritual issues. They're not happy where they're at. And that – hey, food. And that's the food. So whether it's food, alcohol, porn, pills, drugs, recreational, crazy, crazy, you know, cheating, having affairs, they're searching for something. and they're not certain. And what it is, is they're, they're not giving themselves a chance to live the life they want. And then, then the other question, Jim, is we have a lot of chiros that when they're in practice 15, 20 years, they have, they want to do something else, but they're scared to leave the office to do what they would love to do because there's that gap, Jim. Well, what happens if I fail? What happens, you know, like I'm going to cut off all this income. So what starts to happen when we become a slave to the money of the office that we're not really excited being and to go off and do something we would love to do. And it is scary. Of course it is. And the older we get, the more secure we want to be. But when it comes to the body, there's a lot of kairos that when people see you is a direct, they see disgusting and disrespectful towards themselves. And that's the truth. So that's why when I work with docs or clients and they lose 11 pounds and they get excited and they're close to it better, and then people are like, they're becoming attractive again. But the thing is, here's the thing, Jim. They're becoming attractive because they love themselves more. They're more attractive. They feel attractive, right? They're proud of themselves. And that exhibits something else. They become charismatic. I think I told you this before. One of my clients has these very expensive seats. He was an attorney. Then he went and did some other cool stuff. So they're like $10,000 a seat. And he's worn them for like 10, 15 years. And so we started working. He's like, everybody's complimenting me on my suits. He's like, I've always worn these suits. I'm like, here's the deal, dude. The man in the suit changed or the woman in the dress changed. So when you understand, when you start eating better, it's not just so you look better. That's a side effect. When you start working out or taking care of your body, looking better is a side effect. It's the person you become proud of again, which is yourself. You feel good about yourself. You feel sexy. And that causes other problems, Jim. I told you other problems. I got to tell every client, listen, men and women will be attracted to you. Men will want to do more deals with you. So business opportunities come up. And yes, women will be attracted to you. So when they do have a partner, that causes a whole other problem. My wife is jealous now. My wife is giving me a hard time. I'm like, I get it, man, because you're changing. You're changing your life. You're feeling good about yourself. I get it. But again, that goes into everything, the practice. So their clothes are better because you have a more confident person. Everybody feels better when they look better. for themselves, right? Everybody, no one would say, hey, I like myself when I feel tired, exhausted, I'm over fat, and I'm out of shape. No one does it. But when you come to the truth of it is like, of course, when you eat better, and you exercise, and you take care of your body, and you have your morning time, and you fill up your well, right? Because you took time for you. You're not a martyr to everybody else. You're going to feel better. You're going to look better. and you're going to be more confident and that person is attractive or what would they say like uh you're uh it's not just attractive jim what do you call it's not just because what do you do like when someone walks yes thank you like when someone walks in the room and people notice you come in so it's just there's something about you that's an energetic shift and it's a it's a metaphysical spiritual thing and that jim is what you and i understand and that is why I Trojan horse people through fitness. Cause I was like, great. You look good and you fit in your clothes, but there's that energetic aura, that metaphysical change, which chiropractic is also based off of that. That's the thing that changes your life. Well, I, I really talk about family on this show. Almost never. Probably this is the first time I've ever talked about anything familial, but my brother just yesterday celebrated one year of sobriety and like chokes me up. because his life was a nightmare. Like 30 years alcoholic, just living off compass. He had no compass. The compass went to a bar seat and eventually he started failing health. And I buried two brothers to alcoholism since 2020 and it hits home. And I did everything I could to like throw him the life preserver and he just celebrated one year of sobriety but he was one of those guys if you like walked around like the grocery store and you saw the guy that had like the really scrubby ponytail that wouldn't ever cut his hair that had like an unkept beard that you know just kind of drifting around in the world and you look at him you're like man what is this guy doing now he's getting his beard trimmed now he's getting haircuts consistently and his self-esteem is improving and his baseline is better his attitude's improving he's communicating with people better you know he's consistent with going to a meeting every day and the change i've seen with him as a baseline i mean he washes dishes for a living and he goes to work and he tells me he's tired, but he says, Hey man, I'm going to go to sleep earlier tonight so I can get up and have a good day tomorrow and be in a good mindset and have a good attitude. And I'm thankful that I'm sober today. So if we, if we take where you are with these high level performing people and where their glass ceiling is, sometimes it's just saying, Hey, I didn't drink today. And I have one person in this world that I can reach out to every bed every day, which is me. And he has this anchor in his life that I might not be as consistent as some people need me to be, but I'm the most consistent human in his life. And when he shows up to me and he says, Hey man, the Cubs lost today. And I'm like, yeah, it's because their pitching sucks. Or, you know, he'll, he'll tell me, you know, the NCAA tournament team, whoever it is in sports, like I, I didn't want that team to win. And I'm like, yeah, it's because their coaching probably wasn't as good as the other teams or they didn't recruit as good. and I just make him think a little bit different. And I think that that's what we all do for each other. We build this ecosystem for each other and where somebody looks at you and says, damn, this guy was Mr. America. How am I ever going to attain that? Well, now you have somebody in your corner that did attain that. And now you have that consistent person in your life from a day-to-day response system that's a coach. And I think that those are the things that sometimes we never get a chance to talk about. And we don't get a chance to actually make that connection to somebody to understand. And people all need better support. And we all need to believe that we're unlimited. And we all need to believe that, you know, I never went to did the whole AA thing, because I'm like, I don't need that group. But I just, I'm seven years sober without AA. I just decided I was going to quit alcohol just because I saw it like killing my family. But I really believe that when people start to understand what their self-responsibility is, if they want to have a quality of life, then they have to start eating real food. They have to stay hydrated. They have to get their spine checked by a chiropractor. Like some of the fundamental things, Some of the things that I think, whereas I go talk to somebody and they're like, I've never been to a chiropractor before. Those guys are quacks. I'm like, it all has to change the way you think about things. And then when you decide that they're not quacks and they might be able to help you, then some of these things that you're dealing with physically and emotionally could actually improve. So top level performer all the way to somebody that has a belief system problem. I think coaching and telling people what they might not be able to hear from anybody else is our responsibility now, Chris. And I think that that's a really cool place for us because with time and age and experience, you get wisdom. And really, after you said congratulations for 787 shows, it's 787 amazing humans that I've had a chance to break digital bread with and get to know them. and that made my life very valuable and very rich. And it put me in a position that nobody else can hold space in. Like you said, one of the things that you do really well with is holding space for people. Well, one of the hardest lessons for me in my entire life is shut the fuck up and let other people talk. So it's really cool that I can hold a show with you and just hear your wisdom and acknowledge you for it and hear where you've come from and helping more people. Because really, that's what chiropractic is all about. When I first got into day one, the doc I worked with said, hey, just want to let you know you're going to care more about these people's health than they do. And I was like, that's kind of stupid. But 17 years later, we care more about their health than they do And that the issue And that what we come to terms with But I do love the fact that you say hey man she take care of your temple You vibrate at a different frequency and you can help more people and it's going to help you too. And you're going to have new problems now. Like, you know, when, when, when you develop in this world and you break that glass ceiling, you have new things you're going to face. You're going to face. How do I get to the, the bigger house? How do I, you know, get the next clinic? How do I hire the next team member? Like when you change, they say everything changes around you. So be prepared for that too. Everybody is when you start to elevate in this world and your consciousness changes, the things around you will start looking at you differently. Like you said, you'll become more attractive, but you'll also be a better provider. And when you become a better provider, those are the things that your little girl is going to remember about you, Chris. She's going to say, dad was home for dinner. He didn't have dinner workshops and he wasn't at work until 9 PM. So I think a lot of what you're sharing, a lot of what I'm sharing, it brings us, it brings the story home. And if I could ever do anything on a podcast that I have a hundred percent control of, it's to share the truth with people and have an open dialogue with people and let them know that, look, I have Chris Zeno on here, one of the most amazing humans on planet earth. That's given me his time and his knowledge for you, the listener. And I think it's really cool, but full circle, I know we're coming up on the edge of our time together. We didn't get a chance to talk about peptides. Maybe we'll do a special episode where we just talk about peptides, but what have been the best parts of your career? What were some pinnacle moments that you look back on and you're like, huh, that was like some of my best memories. you know the greatest part uh whether it be coaching now first i want to leave everybody with this and starting from now on instead of going to your practice and going into your office and trying to close people try to coach change it to coaching people because when you coach someone you take their that that belief system they have and you help them form a new identity I'll tell you why. When I change my identity, so if my identity is to be a strong 50-year-old man who takes great care of his wife and his kids and his patients and whatever that thing I would love. Well, then, of course, you know, or I'm playing around with Rayma in my 70s. And so I feel my joints feel good. I'm limber. I'm all these things like this is what I want to see myself at. So then if that's the man I desire to create and be, then, of course, I'm going to get adjusted two, three times a week. Of course, I'm going to eat better. Of course, you follow what I'm saying, Jim? So it's like when you create the identity of who you want to be, that person thinks abundant. That person isn't depressed. That person definitely doesn't drink. What happens? So you change your identity. So a lot of times instead of we try to just say, I'm going to eat better. I'm going to start exercise. It's all these things. It's like another job. But instead of that perspective of doing all these things, it's like, well, I'm going to change my perspective. This is my identity. This is the type doctor I want to be, the type husband I want to be. Okay, so if that's my identity, then of course, of course I wake up early. Of course I exercise. Of course I eat right. Right? Because I'm going to be this 70-year-old that's in amazing shape. So, of course, that person does these things. You know what I mean? Like that's what that person does. So it makes the whole, the action of things easier because my identity shifts. Of course. So that's why, so you shift your identity to coach. Of course, I'm going to start doing these things. And some of the greatest things about being a coach is you don't have to be this perfect person. They're not, they're talking to you because you represent real and you could understand that. So like you said, one of my favorite things is like, well, one of them was everything you could possibly imagine that you wanted is kind of in front of you. You just, you know, you don't realize it and you got to follow that your heart, your knife. So I remember one of the coolest things. I remember I adjusted this pastor for two years, Pastor Bobby. And one day I just felt the nudge. Let me just kneel next to him and say, hey, if you ever want me to talk to your congregation. I knew him for two years. I never asked him. I felt bad. I was ashamed because it was what I call small Chris. You know, hey, we're seeing two, 300 people a week. That's great. Like, you know, that's great. But there was something to me that wanted more. I said, just ask him. It was like, what do you do the next three Sundays? I'm like, what do you mean? It's like, I want you to speak the next three Sundays at my church. I'm taking a sabbatical. You could run the services. Scared the shit out of me. But I realized that that opportunity came to me because I asked. And even though that opportunity scared the shit out of me, it scared the crap of the comfortable me, that identity, I knew that if that opportunity was given to me, I must be ready for it. So I started knowing that when opportunities came to me, even though I was scared, I must be ready for it or otherwise the opportunity wouldn't be in there. And I remember we had like 350 new patients and we just screamed over a thousand a week and I changed. That was one point I changed. Another amazing time is when I spent 21 days in a Mexican prison. So you're like, wow, that doesn't sound too good. No, you don't understand. like the richness of my life story and what came about from that and the shit I learned and the humbling circumstances and, and having like what I call my Jesus moment, you know, like being persecuted and going through stuff that I really didn't deserve. But Hey, like with the ability to walk in humility and forgiveness, like, dude, you don't understand like everything life gave me. I started to realize there's a beautiful story in everything. Like today, I woke up today. I started something for the next 48 hours because my hip kills me right now. I heard it working out. But I started feeling a little off and a little negative. And I said, for the next 48 hours, everything that's in my life, I'm going to say, this is exactly what I wanted. And I'm so happy about that. And so the car that won't start, this is exactly what I, so I just said, like you said, my perspective is great. Like your brother, Hey, today's going to be a great day. And realizing that you realize what a blessing it is. Because sometimes we get so focused on shit we can't control or stuff. That's not great, but we totally miss out on the people we love, our patients that have been with us, the opportunity that we could be car. Like all the great stuff we don't see. And so knowing that in your life, the greatest parts of my life, Jim, we're all of them, right? because it built the story. I always see things as a story. It built the story of me where it's like, wow. You know, Demartini, he always talked about neutral, but he says, you know, for every elation, right? Right. For every pedestal, there's a pit. And he goes, and when you could see both the positives, perceived positives and perceived negatives together, and you get to a point of neutrality, he's like, that's a perfect day. So when you guys have days that kind of shitty, you know, but you're like, hey, perfect day. I had some, what I perceived great stuff, perceived troubles, perfect day. And so when you realize that everything in your life is a teacher and you have the ability to coach people by sharing your, your tough times as well, that makes you real. And that's what builds trust. So when someone comes to be like, you don't understand, you never, you know, you always have been healthy. I'm like, I was a week away from getting my colon removed at 25. I lost it all. Really? Yeah. So I'm with you. I get it. And so that's what makes you a great leader is not that you have to be perfect. It's actually the imperfections and the hours in your back and the scars you have really makes you real. And a lot of Kyra's doc or Jim, they are scared to let people know they're human. They're, they're, they're human and they, and they're scared to let them know their imperfections or, Hey, I dealt with this problem myself and it was rough. And so it's like, It's those moments that change people's lives. It's not being the perfect person. It's letting people know, hey, listen, I get you. I've been through something similar where I've had my own demons. You know, like for me, porn and alcohol were never a thing. My dad didn't drink. I had brothers that did drugs, so I didn't do it. So, you know, but my, you know, so it's like you find out it's like, but I know what it's like to be obsessed and addicted in other areas, right? So when people go through things, you just have to let them know that, hey, I'm human like you, and we could both get through this together. And it really comes down to what you said. It's our mission. Everybody, when you go to work today, stop thinking that you just have a chiropractic office. Go in there, be a coach, and focus on helping people and speaking truth in their life. And that might be the greatest adjustment and the only adjustment they needed today. You know, here I'm setting up on C1, but really it's my touch. It's my look. It's my smile. It's my understanding. That was exactly what they needed to heal. Not if I had a right setup on a bone, you know? Well, do you know who Alex Hermosey is? Of course. Who doesn't? I mean, maybe people do, but yeah, of course. He started with us, by the way, did chiropractic marketing. That was one of his first jobs. He said the single greatest skill you can develop is the ability to stay in a great mood and the absence of things to be in a great mood about. And I think that that's what you described there. And he said, friendly reminder that you're allowed to be stressed, angry, sad, frustrated, annoyed, a.k.a. have things generally not go your way and still get shit done. Yeah. And then we blame it, right? And in closing, he says, if you can be in a good mood or if you can be a bad mood for no reason, you might as well be in a good mood for no reason. And I think it takes everything you said and brings it home. And you said it's not so much the setup on C1, it's the intention around what you're doing and the energy that you give to somebody else. And I want to close out with one last question. Why is chiropractic philosophy vital to the world? It's the only, it's a law, not just a law, it's the only thing. When you told me that schools were pulling out innate and universal, it's like that is the only real thing we got. Like innate intelligence and universal mind is in everything. Like what in the world? Like it's the only real thing. Right? I mean my body is going to be here. Like my body, it's not even my body. It's like I got this cool body. This is my suit. But it's like you cut off my arms and my limbs and everything. I'm still Chris. Like universal mind, I'm one with universal mind. I'm a piece of that, right? And I am expressing that. Like, so it is the, when you said that, I was like, it's the only thing that's really real. Like the spiritual is really the only thing that's real. All this stuff, you know, it's just kind of a manifestation of that. But, and so the chiropractic principle is the only thing that really acknowledges that. Not just from a body standpoint, not a body point of view. It's a principle. So if something's going wrong, we go, okay, what's causing it, right? Like what's the, where's the above-down inside out of that? So we always look for cause. There's no cause that goes causeless. So that principle, I just don't see it as a physical one, right? I see it in a relationship. You know, I'm known, a man is known by his fruits. So if my relationship doesn't look great, okay, where's the sub, I say, where's the subluxation of my relationship? Oh, okay. You know, like, you know, like everything, I see everything through the lens of above, down, inside out. So when you told me they're pulling that away, it's like, wow. So it's very mechanistic now. It's very like, right? It's like PT. When I think of a PT, I think very technical, no spirit, just kind of like, you know, mechanical. And that's like you were saying, that something special isn't in there. And the something special is like innate, you know? Well, chiropractic is a very special profession that you've dedicated your career to, and I've dedicated my career to. And we understand the foundation of this beautiful profession, but we also need to make sure that we carry that on. And we live those principles, and we share that message. And we share the story, we share the story, we share the story. because if we're silent, then the rest of the world will be silent upon what the chiropractic profession is. So Dr. Chris Zaino, appreciate you being on with me today, man. Thank you so much. If people want to learn more about you or connect with you, where do we send them to? I just go to Instagram at Dr. Zaino and then YouTube. It's Chris Zaino because I'm doing more stuff on YouTube. YouTube I like better because it's more long form. And I believe like Instagram, you get bumps. I'm using my drug reference, like bumps of like stuff, but like long form, like watching something like this for 53 minutes and 54 seconds, you're going to get way more out of this than like a clip, a 30 second clip. So yeah, YouTube or Instagram. Great. Well, I appreciate you making time for us today. And thanks for being on with us for episode 787. And like you said, thousands right around the corner. And that's great, man. It's doing something special for this profession of chiropractic. I've never shied away and I never backed down. And I think that that's something to be said for this profession is in a profession full of rebels. Be the rebel of the rebels. We are kind of that, aren't we? We all like to fight a little bit. Everybody watching, I appreciate you guys so much. I'm always an open book. I'll always answer. Um, whether you pay for me or not, you ask, you give me a question. I'm always going to give you my best. It's so funny. So I was like, well, I was like, Hey dude, whether you pay me or not, I'm still going to give you the best answer I got. So it's like, I'm on, that's the only way I work. Yeah. Well, go, go check them out over on Instagram. Get your bump at, uh, at Dr. Zeno and then go check them on YouTube for long form stuff. Uh, I close out like I always do. I tell everybody, you guys are just one story away. keep hustling. I'll see you guys on next episode. Bye for now. See you, Doc. Thanks, buddy.
