Summary

The Confused Breakfast hosts discuss their personal top 5 'perfect movies'—films that feel complete and flawless in execution rather than necessarily highest-rated. The episode explores how 'perfect' is subjective and differs from a perfect 10 score, featuring diverse picks from Ocean's 11 and Back to the Future to Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair and the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Insights
  • Perfect movies are defined by emotional resonance and narrative completeness rather than critical acclaim or personal favorite status—a film can be perfect without being a 10/10
  • Rewatchability and the absence of 'skippable' moments are key markers of perfection; hosts frequently restart films mid-watch when they realize how well-crafted they are
  • Coming-of-age and character-driven narratives resonate as perfect when they capture specific periods of life or cultural moments authentically
  • The distinction between 'favorite' and 'perfect' allows for more nuanced film criticism; hosts use this framework to discuss films objectively while honoring personal connection
  • Tone, pacing, and production design consistency across entire films are critical to achieving 'perfect' status in the hosts' evaluation
Trends
Nostalgia-driven film appreciation: hosts value films that capture specific decades or cultural moments authentically (80s in Rocky IV, Sing Street; 1950s in Back to the Future)Character-centric storytelling over plot: perfect films prioritize deep character development and emotional arcs (Thunder Road, Prisoners, The Pianist)Rewatch culture as quality metric: films that compel immediate re-viewing are positioned as objectively superiorSubjective scoring frameworks: podcasters moving away from rigid numerical ratings toward contextual, personal evaluation systemsEnsemble cast chemistry as perfection marker: Ocean's 11 and Four Brothers valued for flawless actor placement and dynamicsInternational and indie film legitimacy: Spanish horror (Who Can Kill a Child), Scottish indie (Sing Street), and lesser-known auteur work (Sorcerer) positioned as equal to mainstream classicsTone consistency as craft excellence: films that maintain tonal balance across full runtime (Super Bad, Kill Bill) elevated to perfect statusFilmmaker intent alignment: films where director vision is fully realized without compromise (original TMNT, Sing Street) valued highly

That's true That was like that really that made it that made a part of culture that was in scary movie What do you guys think about the the I mean I can think of one that I miss and I don't know how you guys feel about it But it's the bud why sir frogs? I mean Maybe one of the greatest advertisements of all time. I think so I'd like to think that that was so good that the guy that invented it They just said you know what dude? Here's ten million dollars. Thanks for your service. Go ahead We're tired in here. Yeah, you're never gonna do better than this, right? There's a it's a million dollar idea and that should happen to somebody You know what I mean? Like whoever invented like something that's like the fork Should just be good like you're good to go. You're good man. Thank you We're just gonna pay you royalties or yeah upfront thing of like a billion dollars and Don't even do anything else with you You created a perfect thing that has affected all of our lives perfectly. So So, thanks. Here's here's your retirement. Yeah, we should that's another top five We should do is like top five nostalgic commercials Well, I think they're great and they're nostalgic because they're perfect and we are here to talk about Perfect movies today. It's a little it's a little bit of a It's a little bit of a of a broad Thing, you know when you're saying perfect movies perfect is very Very Subjective is that the word I want? Yes. Yeah subject is very adjective. Yes adjectives It's subjective and and I think perfect means different things to people because The movies I have on my top five perfect list are not tense Like we've I've done a few of these on the show and I had did not give them tense But when I think back on them and I think of them, I don't think anything's missing I think it's a I think the every frame is perfect. It's like an album that There's no skippable songs. Maybe it's not your favorite album ever, but it's it's an incredible album to turn on It's just perfect in the way that it makes you feel and and nothing's wrong with it I that's that's the way I took this. How did you guys take this and yet? It's not a 10. Yeah, correct. I'm saving that for Shawshake, man. It's gonna come a week I can't give it a 10 okay Sean, I know you're the guy that gives like 810. So if I give something a 10 That's it. I can't give anything a better score and I cannot give another movie a 10 Like it's like that's the one and that scares me Watching movies is over at that point. We did it Like you once you give a 10 you're like, that's that's the movie now Yeah, I now all other movies are just like I'm gonna compare to this. Yeah, correct. I can't do it Yeah, I mean like just for the Odyssey to come out man. Yeah, exactly. Totally man I I thought about it this way too and the Sorry the problem here is Mike. I felt the exact same way. I was like I I know I know that these aren't necessarily like I'm gonna give these a 10 In fact, you can look at my ratings. I did not give these 10s, but what does perfect mean? Perfect just means perfect to me. Okay. I'm trying to I'm very I'm trying to be objective for the show, but also in this case I get to take a very more a much more personal standpoint. I feel like When we decide like oh, this is a this is a perfect movie to me personally So are your thoughts that you give on a any given episode not personal? They are personal, but they take into outside factors. Sean I'll drop it I got to understand this Listen, Sean AI is no important. Okay AI wrote my list for me. Okay. Okay I did try to I tried to just to get my brain going. I was like dear chat gpt Can you give me a list of like widely known movies that would be perfect? And it was just like never, you know what fuck never mind like this is this is doing the opposite of getting my brain going I'm just gonna I'm gonna say fuck you I'll relate to a little bit because I packed away my movies. I'm moving here soon So all my movies are in boxes and what I usually do with with this sort of exercise is go look at my movies Yes, what's perfect and what's perfect? That's how I make my list and I couldn't do that So I went to reddit where there are actual people talking about actual real things. Got you as far as we know respect Okay, I I propose for the first time ever we put our honorable mentions at the end Because you know, we didn't confirm our list here. There might be some overlaps I don't I want to have a few in my in my wallet stable over here just in case somebody takes one of my main ones So let's do this. Let's do honorable mentions at the end Um, I'm gonna start us off my number five guys. We haven't done it on the show yet But when it's kind of like the easiest one to get into this story, uh, it's going to be oceans 11 I firmly believe That oceans 11 is kind of a perfect movie when you're talking about the cast no one's out of place Everyone is so is top of their game and perfectly placed in their characters The story from start to finish There's never a moment Where i'm bored with this move and there's never a moment like a days thing confused like we've talked about Which I've come around a little bit on but like it gets to the nerds in the car and you're like Just get to the cool parts, you know, so and there's never a moment like that in oceans 11 I know aj's a really big fan of 13 and I also agree 13 is pretty great 12 still watchable, but like 11 is just a perfect Moment in time that like if it's ever on I'm I'm all in I'm a phones down. I'm never bored at any moments. I'm I'm always gonna watch this movie and think They fucking nailed it. It's kind of like the the scene at the end They're all like looking at the fountain like looking at each other. It's like I imagined that what Was what it was like when they got done editing this film being like We fucking did it. We did about as perfect of movies you can get so that's my number five I like that pic Always always good stuff there It's it's just such an easy movie to like just enjoy and the moment that that's that score starts in Like it's just so iconic, but it's one of those that you feel like I've heard this a million times I think but you haven't you know, I don't know it's it's great from start to finish good call. Yeah Why don't you go sean? okay, um My number five i'm gonna start off with I have mentioned before to you guys And subsequently to everyone who listens to this but um, I wanted to start this off because you guys are fathers and To in my opinion, this is one of the mandatory movies to watch when you're a parent Um, and it's specifically a father about a father Um, I did raising errors or I picked raising Arizona when we did that movie specifically because I wanted you guys to watch it I bought that movie for my brother Did I Sorry to interrupt you like what when did we do raising Arizona? Was it like maybe me and maybe I had just had a kid but a j hadn't yet there was a weird dynamic there where I yeah, actually because aj gave it a low rating didn't he because he hadn't had a kid yet That's why you need to re rewatch that. Sorry. Go ahead sean. Yes. Um, but this is in the same vein This movie is thunder road from 2018 Um, this directed and starring jim Cummings Let's go ahead and get the jokes out of the way jim jay did he Cummins all over that flick Yeah, jim. Good job all over that road like thunder Which his name was richard lightning A Texan police officer Moving uglig for his late mother the divorced officer suffers a psychological breakdown while trying to save his relationship with his daughter um it's I every time I think about i'm like there's I don't know if movies can get better. I don't know if like storytelling can get so Uh as tight as this movie Um jim Cummings is in this like he directed it as well. Kendall far is uh, I think his daughter Jocelyn de Boer is in this and ekon robinson Uh and makin blare who is in the green room um Just a fantastic movie and I when I mentioned it before I mentioned this but like it was inspired off of uh He first did a short film of just like the first scene in the movie So he that was like his proof of concept pretty much and he won like a bunch of awards off that and then got a feature uh film made out of it um And the whole first scene is one shot. It's just like one long zoom lens of him Doing this uglig in front of people while singing or like doing an interpretive dance to the spring sting song thunder road um And it's all at the same time hilarious and heartbreaking and you're not quite sure how to feel about it because like some of the music sometimes is a little like Sort of melancholic, but it's what's happening on screen is so ridiculous. Um, it's fantastic It's I think it's a masterpiece Uh jim Cummings like his other movies and stuff need to be washed as well He's doing a lot of tv at the moment. Uh, he acts and some stuff. He was in Like the last halloween movie Um, just an incredible incredible movie. Uh, go watch it, please A j number five. What do you got man? All right, I think i'm gonna start here. Um, I decided on this to I because I have a decent amount of honorables For the end of this episode. I just want to make it known that um, I decided to leave off some movies That we've covered a lot. I wanted to give some some Presence to some movies we haven't really discussed ever And uh, especially ones that are like kind of under the radar that feel like Like I've talked about the town being a perfect movie to a degree, you know But I feel like there's other ones in that same vein That don't get enough credit when I think about these types of movies. Um, these kind of crime and cop cop thriller movies Um, and one in particular is a movie called four brothers Um four brothers is a is like There's just something about I'm not saying and here's the thing guys This this is where it gets so conflicting is because it's like, oh, you're saying that this is a perfect movie like oh It's so it's like the one of the greatest movies of all time. I'm not saying that I'm saying it's a perfect movie Sometimes for the time that you watch it or for like the timing that you might watch it and then like Inside of that There's not really much wasted time in these movies, you know And four brothers is like a perfect example of that um Have you guys seen four brothers? Yeah, either of you I think I watched it right when it came out and Didn't necessarily connect with it and haven't watched it since but it's been on my list Okay, I've only seen it the one time, but I definitely liked it. It was cool it's it's four adopted brothers, uh in a um Bigger city project kind of an area. I don't know. I can't remember. I honestly I can't remember it's like new york or philadelphia or something like that but um, boston maybe but regardless it's like basically they're um, they're foster mothers is killed in a um In like a bodega robbery or whatever right near the holidays And then they come to find out like they they start investigating it themselves And it just becomes this like really great like crime cop thriller um, where they're just on the edge of You know doing what's right. They're our anti heroes and it's like it's like this equal equal parts amazing revenge story but you have I mean the four brothers are played by Mark wallberg andre 3000 I can't uh, is it not it's not tay diggs. Uh There's two and then two other there's two other guys in there, but regardless are they brothers? They're they're foster brothers Oh, okay I'll see you that's where they get good. Good. My god. We brothers brothers or brothers, you know brothers, man, you know so But they they're like the four They're the four brothers that like Nobody wanted to adopt these kids, but this woman like turned them into at least somewhat respectable you know human beings and so it's just a really really fun and exciting and and fairly gritty um Like good cop crime drama thriller movie that gets pretty pretty Pretty dark at some points. I just think it's a perfect movie that had like in the sense that the timing of this movie is perfect um, the emotions of this movie are perfect the Um editing is is really great like the way that they put this movie together um, so it's just it's one of those I've like man I will throw this on and just be enthralled with it for that Brief moment in time and then just I'm okay. I'm I'm able to move on. It's great So my number my number four is prime example of of this being a tough thing like we're not talking about 10s here necessarily My number four is the village by M. Night Shyamalan. Fuck yeah, dude The village Listen from the moment I saw that movie It's caught me in in like just a deep way like I I went back to the theater. I think two more times to watch that in Iowa City I bought it immediately on dvd. I think I think the village is M. Night Shyamalan's best work I truthfully believe that I think it's better than sixth sense. I think it's I think it's got the best Rewatchability like even though M. Night Shyamalan. Yeah, the the hook goes and then you're like, okay, whatever I I don't know for some reason that movie is so rewatchable because it's not about like the oh It's not about the thing at the end that's like, did you know this? Holy shit. It's not about that it's like that sort of doesn't matter in the story the story is about these people and uh, man the the score of that uh, The use of color of the yellows and the reds and that um against that landscape And I think it's one of the scariest creatures that's ever been filmed as well to tell you the truth The cast is out of this world. I I I love the village and I don't think there's anything wrong with it and I know people will hate on that but I love that movie. That's that's my number four. We're talking about top five perfect movies I will defend you if there are haters. I I love that movie as well I think it's definitely my favorite shambles. I'm not sure if it's the best. I'm not I can't okay. Yeah favorite. There you go I mean, you know, it's kind of saying oranges, but um, yeah, I on all counts agree with you like there's uh, especially Um, piano guy the pianist. Uh, major brody. Yep. God damn he's he's particularly like surprisingly, well, I don't want to He's just very surprising in that movie Um And like I I think we talked about it before but like in all time like I I love you confession scene I think maybe one of the greatest of walking phoenix and uh That's brice delis Howard brice delin Howard Sigourney weaver, um, man You got a lot. Sigourney. Sorry. I was just thinking about the town. We have a town in Iowa called Sigourney Uh, because Iowa names things weird. So Sigourney weaver, man Sigourney weaver Dave and I think we have a town named weaver too, but What's your number four shawner? Um, I was just kind of thinking too that uh, that may be You're not gonna give a 10 out. You're like, it's I it's kind of like this. You're like, I won't give it a 10 But it's definitely five stars Yeah, it doesn't make any sense You know, somehow it makes perfect sense though. I know it might make a lot of sense It's not a 10 but two thumbs up, bro I will give it two thumbs up that is one that does not make sense like when when eaver was like, yeah two thumbs up So it's like Two out of what like is that a 10? Did you just give it a 10? Is that a hundred percent score? Oh my god, did he just he just gave that perfect score. It's more like a 9.2 He doesn't give out perfect scores everybody knows that Um from watching a movie about being a father to watching a killer kid movie um I had uh been recommended this movie from somebody probably a podcast or something but um Uh, it's a 70 75. I think yeah 76 Um, it's a spanish movie called who can kill a child question mark Um, and this I mean it's like a as exploits It was I was afraid to press play on this movie because I was like what's gonna happen Are there actual like deaths going to happen on screen? It was kind of like one of those I got the blue right in the mail and I'm like it was in like a bubble wrap And I had to like there was like nine layers of tape over it and like fuck. I don't know man, you know Um, the fuck did I just order electrical tape and shit? Uh, but I watched it and I'm like I was blown the fuck away. This movie is so good It's this couple who are vacationing in spain And the the wife is pregnant and they go they're like there's just like island Far away that my that I was at when I was a little kid the husband says and they're like let's go there because I remember I think you'll really like it and they get there and there's nobody around and they just see like a couple kids Like walking around like and like looking at them like weird and menacing And as they start to find out that these kids are like extremely violent and or like have killed all of the adults on the island um But yeah, and then they find out they're like their their boat is gone or like their ferry is not going to come back for a while And so they have to like kind of survive until they can like find a way to escape this island full of killer kids And it's spain so this movie you can get away with like, you know Making kids work late at night. So there's like a bunch of night shoes where kids are chasing these adults like Jumping on a car, you know, like doing stunts that they probably shouldn't be doing um, they they really really You know push push the push the envelope here, but in my opinion, it's completely worth it. It is a fascinating story too because The movie's called who can kill a child and these kids are trying to kill them. What how do you stop them? You know, like I guess you if they're so If one if it's just one of them you can like knock them out and run away But if it's a shit ton of them, what the hell are you gonna do? So eventually the question is answered in this movie um And it's it's just fucking fascinating. I look the cinematography is amazing. I love the setting so much. It's just Uh like blazing sun on this town that makes all of like the stucco like glow, you know what I mean? um It's amazing. I loved it and um Remember when I watched it that that was one of the movies again that uh when it was over I started it over again Because I was like fuck that was so good. So who can kill a child? That's a good sign rewatch abilities has to really play into this this notion of perfect. Yeah, by the way not me I couldn't yeah. No, no couldn't do it. I could it's certain kids. I could probably could I mean other people's kids, man Hey, man, you just don't know what you're gonna do until you get there, right? So Put me in the situation to see what I do. This is a commercial message brought to you by go fund me my fourth is one that is um This is a movie Any movie that you watch in school? Should probably not be on this list. However I believe it was it wasn't even a history class. I think it was like an english class or something like that that we watched the movie called the pianist and the pianist is Maybe one of the most perfect interpretations of like uh, from what I what I what I understand like the interpretations of life uh during world war two um for these For people living in that era in poland and you know neighboring countries But pianist follows its adrian brody who plays a um very very notable and prestigious pianist And he plays on the radio every day and he plays at different places. He plays in orchestras. He's world renowned basically um and then world war two basically comes through war saw poland and him and his family are just you just watch Their lives just get reduced to So little until they are forced onto train cars and you know, then the whore and you know The remaining horrors of world war two um are just thrust upon them and But watching it happen and like I've I've turned this movie on and then had to turn it off because there are some parts of this movie that are just so like harrowing To it's like the definition of that word um And and like but I think that that that again adds to those moments of like a perfect movie that make you feel something so Intense that you're like, I can't even deal with this right now. Like and I've seen this movie like six times You know what I mean? Uh more than that, but it's like I just can't deal with it right now. It's like that's a perfect movie Adrien Brody put himself through the absolute ringer to do this performance and I believe he he ended up winning it an actual like an me for it Um or like an oscar for it. Um, it's when he kissed hally berry Is that right? Okay, there you go But I mean he he kind of put himself through the ringer. He wanted to understand at least to a little bit of you know, not having a lot and so he sold all his possessions he like Was basically homeless for a little while uh He broke up with his his girlfriend at the time like Didn't have anything like and he just Just lived a very very like uh reduced life while he was going through this process um and Say what you will about artists and What you know Okay, it's like okay adrien brody just calm down You're not going to go through what they went through in fucking world war two But it's like, you know, at least he's trying he's trying to put himself into this mindset. So there's you know all that being said It's just one of those movies that it's a perfect interpretation. It sounds like of of what this really was there's really not too many punches pulled throughout this story and Watching him it's it's such an intimate Story being told following him specifically while all these other family members and friends and everybody is um is around him um So I just think it's a perfect movie in in that sense And um, yeah the piano span I think I I'll I'll turn that I I will turn that movie on randomly And then just regret turning it on at times or at other times just be enthralled with it and I'm able to sit through it It's just it's it's a perfect movie Nice so my my number three Is is pretty much the definition of a perfect movie. It's uh, it's heartfelt. It's funny. It's Talks about a period of time in in someone's life That I think we can all relate to and it's it's super bad Super bad is one of the greatest films ever made Um, and I do believe when we get to it Man, we'll see how high it gets on the list. It might come close to a tension Uh, I'm we've been talking about super bad forever. It's why we sort of said that we would be willing to go into the 2000s I I don't know if there's a movie that better does like the one crazy day kind of scenario but with also The hilariousness that they do it is like one of the last funny true comedies that ever came out and then they also have some pretty heartfelt moments and and dealing with that tough period of people's life when they're Sort of becoming an adult like leaving high school moving into college and I don't know if I don't know if there's many movies better than than super bad in in my opinion It's gonna be number three on my list It's pretty damn good. I think it's a great addition because it's The only reason it didn't make it onto my list is because there are I I can think of a specific time where I feel a lull in the movie That's about it other than that though. I think you're spot on. I think it's one of the The reason we said like we would go into the 2000s Was for super bad because of the way that they they actually were able to portray that era of life When we started this podcast almost six years ago now That was one of the like I guess markers in time That was like we will go up to the 2000s because of super bad Yep, you know that was that was like that and like what we have to do Jaws So we have to dip into the 70s. It was yeah those those were movies We're be we're being talked about when we started this and we haven't done it No Kind of like we said, well, we'll just hang on to Shawshank for a while and it's like oh fuck We're doing it We'll get to it. It's gonna come a day where it's gonna it's gonna happen and we're gonna do it Maybe it's a lie. Maybe it's our 1000th episode live live at Madison's court gardens. You never know. I don't know Love it. All right. My number three. I'm gonna do this one. Um, this is directed by the same guy who did What's the oh you once like falling slowly the fucking cute fucking music movie man Okay, uh Irish director, I think I think so Scottish I can never tell the difference Um But this movie is called sing street um This is just an absolute delight if you were a fan of the 80s, um You have to watch this movie if you're a fan of like creating music you have to watch this movie Um, just a little short log line with the recession hitting people hard in Dublin So there it is Ireland during the 1980s Conor has moved from his private school to a tough inner city alternative as he tries to adjust To a new way of life. He declares to start his own band Um And that he does uh, he gets his kind of like ragtag group a group of friends together in his school that you can scrounge together and um one of them is like a brilliant songwriter along with him and the others like fill out the the rest of the band like the drummers super quirky and also there's a girl involved and um She's played by Lucy Boynton and I don't know if When you guys look her up that if you've seen her in anything, but she is fucking drop dead gorgeous um Amazing amazing character in this movie and their relationship is so much fun to watch and unfold um, but it's basically, you know, like a coming of age story with this kid going through some troubles at home and um dealing with is I think it's a stepdad maybe his own dad but um Trying trying to make him make himself become something bigger than where he is, you know, he is he's his creative Mind and his and his heart is way too big for where he is and he's trying to get out of it and through music and his brother Played by jack reiner He's you might find him in midsummer um He is was a musician himself in in the movie his character And so his the main character turns to him to be like what like what's cool? Like what do I listen to he gives him a bunch of like duran duran and like these are the bands you need to listen to Um, he gives him a speech. He's like because he says to him. He's like, I'm gonna think I might start a band He's like you're gonna start a band. That's awesome. And he's like, what do I what should I do? He's like you're not a And it's just one of my favorite things, but he's like you're not a fucking covers band. Okay, you know You got to like you got to play it from the heart like This is it's an amazing speech that he gives that uh, I really like he's like it's playing music is a risk You risk being ridiculed and I fucking love that so much um, just an amazing amazing movie and Again, one of those movies that I saw it. I started over again because I loved it so much 95 percent Iran tomatoes it absolutely. It's okay. It's not perfect. It's not a perfect hundred, but it's pretty close It is now it's it's just so so much fun and rewatchable the way they like Show the performances and everything too is so fun. And there's a moment when they're like making a music video that's also kind of like Filmmaking and trying to like scram something together things go wrong when you put a camera there. It's Fucking amazing sing street. Perfect movie. Oh, yeah, man. It's actually been on my list for a little while I just nice little nudge there do it AJ number three street Okay, by number three um Guys, how do you make a perfect movie after you've made three perfect movies? Trick question you're still vester Stallone and you make rocky four You're going rocky four rocky four is a perfect movie. Damn son I love and I and I here's the thing. I wanted to actually just say rocky Because I actually do believe rocky is like a perfect movie for me. It's rocky is a perfect 70s movie for me Same with like the warriors. I think it's a perfect movie from the 70s for me but rocky four when you're talking about It's they they really turn up the 80s. It's capital eight 80s that It Sylvester Stallone just leans into You know number two He beat Apollo again or he beat Apollo finally with his mentor in number three He loses his mentor and he comes back with His new found friend in Apollo To win in the end against clever lang in number four He loses his friend and he has to do it Himself now finally, you know With you know the support that he gets from You know his own camp his wife poly and then Duke you know who's who's apollos coach but It's just there's something about this movie that like Number one the music the music is some of the best music that came out of the rocky movies Everybody leans into I have the tiger, but I mean we can't we can't forget about like, uh, venz de colas like his scores and Robert tepper and like all these amazing 80s songs that came out All the flash of the 80s the robot that happens. This is an 80s perfection piece period piece and that is End of discussion as far as I'm concerned rocky four is a perfect movie from the 80s I love it. I can't wait to do that I I I would propose we skip two and three and go right to four someday, but that's that's my proposal That's the thing though. And you know what we had the same discussion We talked about doing lethal weapon two or just skipping right to number three, but I'm so glad we did number two I know it's very true Well speaking of two my number two is a movie we did on the podcast. We did an episode on it It was a perfect movie to me as a kid and Giving it the modern day treatment that we did almost made it better Somehow in my in my modern day brain and and I really do think This movie is the perfect blend of nostalgia humor also history also friendship music Um, and it's bill and ted's excellent adventure I I truthfully believe that this is one of the greatest movies ever made and it's hidden in this like, uh, it's dumb You know, it's two guys bill and ted keanu But it's like no it's actually an unbelievable undertone of a movie with like Music saving the world and and the friendship that where they got to do they got to get in a phone booth time machine to save their friendship and their band and like They're just they they don't even think twice about doing this nowadays. We'd be like I don't know if I can do that like that seems kind of weird I They just get in a phone booth and go do it because they're they're cool kids man I I think it's I I honestly believe it's a perfect movie and it's one for the ages. It still stands the test of time Uh, it's bill and ted's excellent adventure my number two Oh, yeah, man respect. I need to rewatch it a Maybe time for for We're starting to get to the point where like these movies were done so long ago that it might be time for like Re-re-review of our reviews for some of these older episodes, you know, yeah I mean, I think they you could get a brunch out of it, right? I mean, yeah. Yeah Yeah, shawne you go I'll go Number two I got here. Um, I think is a perfect movie and This is a William Friedkin movie the director of Exorcist and I believe it was after Exorcist that he made this movie But no one really cares about it or knows about it because it came out in 77 And everyone was going to see Star Wars at the time and this movie that I'm talking about is called Sorcerer It is a pseudo remake of I think a 40s film called wages of fear But this is about Star's Roy Shiter and a bunch of other misfits um It's about this like group of four dudes four or five dudes who um have Each done something like kind of terrible for them to end up at like a um, sort of like an like a camp or like a witness protection sort of thing um And the movie starts off with showing all all of these men doing some doing the thing that they did to get them to end up here Um, but they are tasked they are picked Um to like have their freedom if they get this done um somewhere a Mine or an oil field is like up like spilling out and so they need Uh tnt to be delivered to this place so they can stop it And it's like extremely rough terrain It is just like the most horrible like jungle terrain And they have to get two truckloads of tnt to this place by a certain amount of time And so these guys agree to do it. They take two trucks and it's just their adventure To get to this place to see if they can do this um, some of the most harrowing scenes of of like Like how did they film this? There's there's I mean the most famous shot or scene I guess is getting these two trucks across this like rickety bridge that's like tied on uh to Either end by ropes and they're trying to get like literally trucks that I I drove from my job over these bridges and they're just swaying back and forth and it's raining and the uh the currents getting bigger and like starting to like wash them away And they can't go very fast or like go over many huge bumps or or the gliss the nitroglycerin will go off and they're done They're dead and the mission is good put um Just an amazing amazing like gritty 70s filmmaking um My favorite rob shite rob shiter roi shiter performance of all time It's just so amazing the ending ending to this movie too is just like one for the ages It's so it's so like up in the air and bleak, but also a little like hopeful in a way Um, I love this movie so much. It's perfect sorcerer Number two for the age man. I almost said rob schneider is the sorcerer There's something there and I don't know what it is, but it's like putting rob schneider's face on a roi schneider Is a shark a shark guy He's a shark fan 13 I'm glad to think our brains are working the same way there because I was like there's something's there Turns out being a shark ain't worth the work I don't know My number two guys Um, let's go back to the bleakness. Um, that exact You're gonna step a noyosville. It's a hard pill Just well rated PG 13 It's it's 10 0 5 here I know Oh god, okay Um, no, let's let's go ahead and he's saying hurry as me saying that we're just getting we're getting a little randy here You know what I'm saying? You got it. You got it. Um, but I appreciate that um prisoners Prisoners is a perfect movie guys This is another one of those that follows under like kind of similar to the pianist or it's like There's a movie that I feel like I could end up having it to turn it off because of parts of this movie But there's something about jake jillenhall and Hugh jackman In their performances specifically um for this movie that Just make it so hard to look away like it's like it's like a train wreck of Like you want to what you want to look away, but like you need to see what happens You it's like you need to know for yourself that this turns out okay And I think that movies that that do this that end a little bit ambiguous um But how is it how does this movie end so ambiguously and seemingly so bleak? But you still feel like a glimmer of hope, you know prisoners does this to you at the end and but Across this whole the the entire storyline we talked about prisoners a bunch. I don't want to necessarily dive into like the whole synopsis but the idea of of losing your child and then And and going through everything to recover them and the the lengths that you're willing to go to to You know save them Very much like what you were talking about, you know previously Sean like with uh with you know to would you kill could you kill the child or that movie it's It's very much asking you that question of like how far are you willing to go and then you have jake jillenhall who Created a character for this that like he didn't need to create honestly like with a lot of the ticks that he has um and combining that with Like the the raw passion of just being so frustrated by this case and so upset by this case and it's not even his You know, it's you know, he's just trying to be professional Prisoners is a perfect movie man. It is a perfect suspense movie. It is a perfect character Depiction depiction, I guess Um just kind of a master class on on character development if you will so That's that's my number two. You saw it right Sean. You've you've seen that one Yeah, have you seen that I I was finally the I was finally able to watch it. So I I couldn't remember if that was one where it's like, oh, shit. I saw before shawnded But that's very rare Yeah, I know we're talking about three ninjas knuckle up or something like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Totally totally No, I Whole coagons and mega mountain. I never I never got around to mega mountain. I don't know what happened No, I I do distinctly remember us talking about it and Mike goes home and watches it It's just like I I think we got a text message Five minutes and I was like fuck you guys. I I hate both But I can't stop watching it to your point. I was like I better stick around to see what happens It was it was that one and I think we also suggested heller high water that you watch No, I had seen that you did that was the one you suggested to me Oh, did you watch it a j I have watched halfway through it, but I got interrupted on it and I was talking about a perfect movie. Jesus christ A great story like monsters ink Stays with you forever and disney class is where you'll find your next great story From the return of the award-winning hit series rivals Welcome to the naughtiest show on television to the unmissable crime drama high potential Got a dead body gotta go a lifetime of great stories awaits this spring on disney plus 18 plus subscription required t's and c's apply. My number one is actually one we we have done What what's wrong? My my my number one is actually my highest rated movie that we have done. It's not a yeah, that's gross It's it's not a 10. I'm out, but it sure is close. I think I gave it a 9.8 Sean just in case There were one to two movies that may have may be better someday But it's in my opinion the most perfect movie ever made and is back to the future uh back to the future number one is There's not one slice of film that is wasted the the tie ins That they painstakingly Put together to make there's no loop. There's nothing that like you can go back on and be like, well, wait a minute Like that wouldn't have I mean like it's it's it's a perfect story And it's combined It combined time travel with a delorean with With martin marty mcfly and doc brown it's it's it took took us back into the past 1955 browse to the future the clock tower. I mean what a story and they they absolutely know that I still Am hard pressed to believe that there's that we're gonna do a movie better than back to the future That's that's kind of how I roll on that one Okay Oh, yeah, and then I respect it so hard I don't know if it's a j's highest rating rated movie, but the namesake of the podcast is You know the guñiz Days are confused in breakfast club Yeah, that's guñiz is my favorite. Those are my favorite movies. They're not perfect movies. I see guys. Yeah Yeah, duh Oh, you say it all the time. You're like, it's not the best, but it's my favorite. It's like obviously shon. We know Yeah, right. Yeah, I can't let my personal feelings get in the way Of my personal feelings of the show. Okay, shon We're not going to be the vessels To get your favorite movies on this top five list so that you can fucking talk about who can kill a child or whatever Yeah, I you're gonna have to bring these movies up yourself if you want to okay, you do you knew you had five spots How about you just use one of your spots sacrifice one of yours for one of these movies that are our namesake, huh? Uh-huh, let's see what he's got here. What's your number one child? Let's see what it was Kid murder no You guys know what it is. Okay, like I It's the namesake of this show. Um, it's cobra It's um Like you gotta watch it again. No, it's not that. Um, my number one is kill bill the whole bloody affair um This is kill bill one and two as it was meant to be seen as one singular movie Um, when they did when they released this in theaters I was like I bought my tickets as soon as they you know released that they were going to do it um, and you know, I I I had heard about it because he had you know Tarantino done screenings at his own theater of it and people you know have written things about it I mean like it's like the greatest thing and but I was like, yeah, I don't know I don't know if I could sit there a movie for what I don't know what it was maybe like four hours or something and um, I'm I'm so glad that I did because it It really it's not even just like that. It's One and two put together and but it's it's like stitched together as it was like it is it is like how it was meant to be Like I cannot watch either of those movies the same now because I've watched these two as one Um, there are certain things taken out. There are certain things put in um And they they both add so much to the movie and they add so much to the character of the bride I kind of don't want to spoil like the major thing that uh that is taken out. Well, you know, it's it's a plot point that everyone knows so basically in in the whole bloody affair um, the bride doesn't know In the first one right at the end um The audience knows that that the her daughter is still alive Like the you know her unborn daughter That's how that first volume one ends in the whole bloody affair. We don't find out until she does And and that's like way into volume two and so It just packs so much more an emotional punch as far as like the the character of the bride goes And literally honestly takes her umo thermus performance as the bride to an echelon that is seriously like Uh, sygony weaver in in aliens, you know, like it's It's a crime. She was not nominated or even won anything for I think she maybe won a gold globe but she deserved every single award for this performance and like I said the whole bloody affair enhances everything about her performance it's it's um It it's it was always like it was like my first Tarantino that I ever ever saw in theaters and Maybe the second one I had ever seen and so and then I watched watched all of them and they it kind of Slowly went down on my rankings for Tarantino. It's in my top three now Like it's it's it was fucking incredible and I can't wait to watch it again. I think it's on streaming now I think they finally released the whole bloody affair and you can and everyone can you know watch it from home Um fucking it's absolutely perfect I love so this is perfect because I I've only seen kill bill one and two I think maybe one time each and I enjoyed it But um, I've been like meaning to get back to it. So this might be the way that I go back to it. Please do it's yeah It's it's phenomenal man. It's really really good Last one a j. What do you got buddy? Well guys, this is the movie that that prompted me to Shoot you the random text of like perfect movies. What the hell are they and how do they exist? Um, are they perfect tens or like, you know, like perfect 10? I mean that could be anything. Oh like a bowling website or something um, who knows uh, but It strikes and gutters dude strikes and gutters man, you know ups and downs strikes and gutters He's sometimes the bar eats you Sometimes you eat. Oh, hey, man. How are you doing? It's a perfect guys I love this movie so much. I didn't realize it until the other night when I rewatched it Again, and I just watched this movie in the dark realizing that this is the exact thing that we needed when it came down to like To getting this thing on to film And it's the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I actually I'm just happy. I'm just really no I actually thought you were going to put it on there just from a comment you made recently that I was like, you know what? Yep, I'm not going to add that to my list because AJ is going to do it It's it's the perfect interpretation that we needed at that moment in time and especially with Elias Coteas as as Casey Jones in there was just this cherry on top of Like how perfect this movie was it was just a little bit enough of like gritty You felt cool because you're watching the Ninja Turtles say damn You know and like just swear a little bit The like the most iconic moment of just like pizza dudes got 30 seconds like Now my kid says that every now and again just randomly But watching this like it's like they they nailed it with the tone It was it's a little bit dark And as much as I love number two If they would have just kept the same tone for that movie it could have been just That much better, you know But it really did it just for for the time for the tone for everything that we got It was everything that we wanted and more and I don't think I I don't know if we realized it in the moment. I'm not going to say we didn't But realizing it now feels really good It was a perfect movie for what they were supposed to give us for like for for that content We're talking about grown mutant ninja turtles the most asinine like phrase In the human language and it's the coolest fucking movie ever. Yeah It's like a special moment in time. It was magic. It should have been like a Roger Corman exploitation movie You know, I was like mutant turtles like killin people or some shit. Right fucking badass instead Yeah, it's just so so well done And I don't think we'll ever get anything like that. We spent a little bit of time talking about like You know an AI interpretation of like if they brought back the ninja turtles again for a number four like the original kind of set up The michael bay movies. What the fuck was that? You know what I mean? Like I and I feel that way. I I'm not like a hater on it necessarily like but As far as the ip goes, I'll always be a fan But when you when it comes down to it, I just don't think we'll ever get something that true and like honest ever again for something that like we adore is for nostalgia There you go Well, we got there's three individual top fives of perfect movies. We want to hear yours Let us know Also, there there were a couple I left off kind of same if I had if I had done this list like, you know without Wanting to call attention to a lot of the old movies we've done I mean, I think it's pretty clear that days and confuses is going to be on this list for a lot of us because it is Pretty much pretty much perfect from start to finish Soundtrack everything big Lebowski's obviously going to be on there for me I I still believe dumb and dumber is about as perfect of a comedy as you could ever get And then the really the last one that was creeping into me when I was looking at my dvds and stuff is I I do think shawna the dead is is in this conversation I don't know if there's much much missing or wrong Or boring about that entire movie from start to finish Yeah, I I would go I would go as far as like hot fuzz Being a perfect movie though, too, you know, like and we've discussed it plenty of times And I don't know if shawna feels the same way or not But I think hot fuzz has kind of taken over the top spot for me for now Yeah, um, it could be it could change tomorrow But yeah, like hot fuzz is is a little bit more of a perfect movie for me um In that sense uh But I mean there are there all three of those movies. I think are great Breakfast club is obviously one that was going to be would have been on my list reservoir dogs. I think is a perfect movie Um, we've talked about it a ton um A couple that well, okay the dark night It's a perfect movie. I mean, it's a perfect fucking movie. I'm sorry, but the the matrix I think is a perfect movie Um, and then some some that are a little bit more semi-recent if you will like I think moneyball is like a perfect movie um And a perfect comedy example. I think is for getting Sarah Marshall Yeah, like like hands down. I think it's Jason seagull is at his best rom-com comedy like rom-com Mostly kind of comedy but happy ending like there may not be a better movie than that Yeah, exactly. And and then the one that I speak ad nauseum about it's my favorite movie and no one else's um, it really likes this movie, but I just I've just come around on it. I just feel like so strongly about this that the thing is, you know I know nobody else likes that movie, but I think it's a perfect movie. I could have sworn you're leading up to christmas with the cranks this is the crags It's pretty good. The only reason it wasn't on this list because the name so It's not that time right now. The movie's perfect. The name is not right Should have should have stayed as skipping christmas, but I'm gonna go a few classics psycho. I think is perfect over hitchcock uh rear window. I've talked about it's been on a few lists of mine. Um, I love that movie but um, Children of men, I think is a perfect movie man. I've been meaning to rewatch that. I thank you for reminding me yeah, dude, it's Watching that movie the first time just blew me away just all of the long shots. It's fucking incredible um, but uh Let's see here. We got when harry met sally. I think is a perfect romantic comedy Rob reiner, you know rest in peace I think it's norah effron wrote that but um, I think it's a perfect script and perfectly directed perfectly acted billy crystal and meg ryan is You can't get better than that. It's like the pinnacle of um Romantic comedies is thinking that and like nodding hill for me is like up there Um dawn of the dead we've covered. I think is perfect. Um The one of the best zombie or maybe the best zombie film of all time jaws is Legitimately to me. I think The greatest movie of all time objectively I like If I would you give it a 10? Yeah, I mean, I don't know if I did on the show actually but The I think it's I think it's it's absolutely perfect Like I I watched that with a group of friends and I'm like every single scene is just like so riveting man like it's I don't know. I there's something about it. I just think it's like the greatest movie ever made But uh, and then uh, my last one I think is silence of the lambs. I think it's absolutely um, one of the best thrillers one of the best performances we've ever gotten from Anybody in that movie and uh, yeah, one of the best director. I think what I said on the show the best director movie we've covered so far So just to make sure you know, shan has given out like 10 10s, but uh, uh jaws is an 8.8 though Just throwing that out there He wants you to know that it's his it's just yeah, I'd fluctuate If I was well, well, well in my mouth, I swear I would That's why you guys one of you was a podiatrist or Or the dentist because I seem to have a case of foot and mouth This is why you guys love us and you better stay tuned because uh, I believe it is This week you're gonna hear spider-man not a perfect movie But the following week, um, you're gonna hear shawshank redemption which I'm I haven't watched in six years on purpose because I knew someday we would get to this and I'm I'm wondering how high this movie's gonna go on some of our lists. So we'll find out turns out. It's not a perfect movie though guys According to us Today yet yet So, okay. Goodbye cheers ever Close your eyes.
