Kelly and Liz discuss the mental health benefits of reducing phone screen time, introduce the Brick phone-blocking device, and share Lenten preparation plans including giving up sugar. They also cover automotive industry news including Hyundai Santa Fe redesign spy photos, Super Bowl commercials from Toyota and Cadillac, and provide recommendations for kids' clothing brands and Super Bowl food preparation.
Insights
- Phone addiction is widespread and normalized; physical barriers (like the Brick device) may be more effective than digital time-limit tools for behavior change
- Life phases matter significantly—guilt over unmet productivity goals (making beds, hobbies) should be released when managing young children; these activities return naturally in later life stages
- Strategic seasonal shopping for children's clothing requires advance planning due to rapid inventory turnover and size availability across multiple children
- Bulk food ordering from local restaurants (barbecue, wings) is a cost-effective and low-effort approach to hosting Super Bowl gatherings
- Intentional social media curation (unfollowing, editing feeds) is as important as reducing screen time for mental wellness

Welcome to the carpool podcast with Kelly. But like when my number of pickups is like 170, like I picked up my phone 170 times to look at it in a day. That's insane. And Liz. You need to make your bed. It's going to start your day off right. It's going to do like these things. And like, okay, well, I'm starting my day off by racing a toddler to the toilet because he's potty training right now. So forgive me that I didn't make my bed. Your mom time off starts now. Welcome back to the Carpool Podcast with Kelly. And Liz. Happy Friday, everybody. We did it. We made it. We made it. Except does anyone else feel like sometimes the weekends are more chaotic than the week? I was literally just about to say that. I'm like, we made it. But now it's just like the weekend. Darn it. I remember like prior to kids like just the feeling of a Friday and just like the feeling of being able to like do whatever and whatever you want and just like bed rot for the entire weekend. Oh, no, I vaguely remember those days. Now I'm just like praying I can like get in a nap between coming home from the Chicago Auto Show. we have like a kid entrepreneur thing on Sunday we're going to and we have the Super Bowl that night so I actually don't think I will be getting a nap in this weekend maybe on the 35 minute plane ride from Chicago back to St. Louis it feels like your best shot I can't sleep on planes Elizabeth can always sleep on a plane I can never sleep on a plane it can literally be when am I most awake 10 a.m. I can have just had an espresso a cappuccino and the moment I get on that plane I'm out yeah I know I really I am so envious of those people who can just like fall asleep for like quick little naps like Elizabeth is like you're not scared of a 30 minute nap I prefer 30 minute naps if I sleep longer than 30 minutes it's like something's wrong with me like I'm sick or I'm pregnant or something. No, not I, I rarely nap and well, I shouldn't say that. It depends on the day. Like most things. I'm like, if I get a 30 minute nap, I am, if I'm exhausted, I need 30 minutes and then I am great. And that's like the best place to be. Cause the problem with like you, you should like Maddie, he, he naps for two hours. So like he, if he's tired he just like he can't get a nap because there's not two hours to allocate to that so it is good to know that I'm always just like 30 minutes away from being a new person but even those 30 minute pockets are near impossible to find I do wonder if that's a learned skill or if it's just something you're born with I think it's something you're born with because dad is like that too like dad and I can both take 20 30 minute naps and then be fine and like you and mom mom doesn't nap mom can't nap yeah because it's also like being able to nap for 30 minutes and also waking up refreshed and not waking up groggy like I wake up so refreshed I wake up so groggy yeah yeah I can't do that it's a genetic thing I think um so I want to do something like so crazy by the time this podcast has come out I may or may not have already done it okay I want to like make a reel but I'm so scared it's gonna flop but have you ever seen those reels where it's like I'm about to take off I wonder how many you know celebrity accounts I can get to comment before I land I kind of want to do that but like with car accounts because like every car brand almost every car brand started following me on Instagram and Kia has really been blowing me up they've been commenting on all my recent posts they just gave me a follow on Instagram and I'm just wondering if I could do like about to take off for a flight I wonder how many car manufacturers I could get to comment but then what if no one comments yeah and is it cute or is it like thirsty oh i think it's thirsty yeah but i think it's like do they want to be a part of something sure i might just say like car related accounts because then like hopefully like my other like reviewer friends could like pop in on it sure yeah okay well i mean i think it's worth a shot i mean you can always delete it like you said it's only a 35 minute flight so if someone doesn't if people don't comment you can just delete it and we'll the only proof we'll ever have is this podcast recording well and let's just do this you just since i won't have my phone sorry i have fred here on my lap too if you guys hear uh someone groaning in the background um how about you monitor it and if like we're 20 minutes in and no one's coming to just delete it do you know what i mean yeah i like tag everyone too hi fred i will tag everyone too yeah okay go play fred fred mommy's working no I'm working no you're not working anymore no I don't know why I think I can get things done with my children I don't either I think you I think you sometimes get confused that like George and Hattie are not Fred and Libby yeah they're really like they're really slowing me down like in a major way no like I would literally never attempt to work with my kids but that's because like I'm that's all I know like you know what the easy side easier side can look like which is you know a five and a six year old you just can't give me a second Fred like come on I mean I turned out I'm not trying to be a hero I gave him an iPad like I thought I had at least 40 minutes Libby's taking a nap I'm just trying to squeeze things in totally um okay so where did we leave off okay so yes i'm going to attempt that reel okay sounds good i haven't i have not seen that yet well and you're not on tiktok as much speaking of tiktok and reels i can't even wait till our till our last three transaction segment to do this because i don't think we have that planned for today's episode i made a major major life purchase oh yeah oh yeah I know about this one. Let's hear it. Yeah, because you have access to my PayPal. I'm like, I just don't like you always knowing what I'm buying. No, I have access to your email. And I, it's good because sometimes important things come through and I need you to see it. But also, I can see like every purchase you make. And I'm like, oh, interesting. She just bought. Yeah. This. Anyway, I bought a brick. Now, what is a brick? First of all, it's $59, which feels a little more expensive. It feels so expensive. I had very much like committed to wanting to buy it and then you know I get through my PayPal and I was like oh okay I was thinking like 36. Yeah I was I wanted to land there. I did not. I landed at like 62 by the time it was all said and done. Now what is the brick? A brick is something that will block like you're distracting social media apps and then to unlock your phone you have to like tap it against the brick again now i'm really wanting to cut down my screen time and my scrolling for like so many reasons mainly because i think i will be so much more productive and dare i say happier without the constant scrolling my phone had to get its screen replaced a couple of days ago so tyler like left one evening and just like took my phone like i was home so i didn't need a phone And like, you know, we have access to the Internet if I like had to call someone like I could pull up my laptop. But he took my phone. I didn't have my phone. It was the best feeling in the world. It felt so I felt so like grounded and connected to my children again. And it felt like the outside world didn't exist. And I loved everything about it. And I know like I wish I would have like the self-control to just like put it in the drawer and walk away. But I just simply what I do. I don't it's not working for me. I can't delete the apps off my phone because I have to work on them every single day. The time limit thing is like so easy to bypass that this brick thing I think is going to be really helpful. Now, I haven't and I've talked to a couple. I have two friends who have them and love them. I think also Kate from Naptime Kitchen has it, too. and all I'm looking to do is to cut down on the scrolling like I just like the number on my phone that makes me the sickest is not my screen time because to me my screen time is my screen time but it's the number of pickups I have in a day because like your Apple can also track that which if anyone was good for them they would delete all of those metrics because like all you're doing is making people not want to be on your devices anymore but like when my number of pickups is like 170 like I picked up my phone 170 times to look at it in a day that's insane yeah no I know so I'm trying to see how it works so you okay tap it yeah so like my plan is like let's say I'll put it like on my fridge or something and then like I'll brick my phone and then I just like would have to get back up to like unbrick it so it just blocks social media or okay it blocks the distracting apps so I would also love to use it on like on a Saturday when I'm like gonna go to like I don't know somewhere with the kids I want to brick it before I leave because I don't need to be uploading and scrolling like in the moments between like me and the kids at the pumpkin patch like I want it bricked and then when I get home if I want to upload something if I want to post a picture I want to share a photo then I will do that yeah i don't know we'll see and i just yeah i mean like the only problem is like i capital go ahead sorry this company is just like really capitalize on people's addiction well and i think the first step to i think the first step to recovery is admission yeah i have a phone addiction so just so do all of you first of all so check yourself um here's what's gonna really though cause a lot of friction in my life though is I know the second I am like so not on my phone I'm gonna want to strangle my husband because I'm gonna be like you're always on your phone yeah even though I hadn't been on mine for like five seconds yeah um okay I'll just be very curious to hear how you love it I agree I mean I think we all know that we're happier when we are not scrolling Well, and Liz, that's a great segue to my next topic that I wanted to talk about. And that was a Fastlane philosophy. I actually have two to share with you. Okay. My first Fastlane philosophy is there was this guy. I don't know who this person is, but he was on Fallon. I'll tell you who he is in a second, because first I have to read you the quote. And he said he deleted his Instagram, this guy. And he said, I'm tired of everyone else's business being my business. Hmm. Let me tell you who this person is. Gabrielle Basso. I don't know I don't know who that is sorry if I'm supposed to I'm sorry I'm so unplugged I just like don't even know these people are she's so bricked up um anyway I'm tired of everyone else's business being my business and he gave kind of like a weird example that I don't relate to he said that he was scrolling his phone one day and someone was posting like the top of Mount Everest and he's like I shouldn't know what that looks like because I haven't been there and I'm like okay well chill out like all right that's not you're missing that wasn't the right one to say but I do agree like I just need to worry about my business a little bit more but also I want you guys to worry about my business too because this is a job after all I'm going back and forth it's hard to separate the art from the artist right now yeah I know I go back and forth too because there's some there's some business I don't care about but then there's also some business that feels like very relatable. You know, like I, uh, totally was my, my friends and I like have a snap. The only reason I saw Snapchat is my only, my girlfriends from college. That's how we communicate. And one of them was like, yeah, I'm doing a 48 hour, a 48 hour fast. And I'm like over here, like I just admitted ordering Taco Bell at 10 AM. And I was like, okay, well that doesn't feel great. Um, cause I'm doing like nothing to better my health. And then I saw like an Instagram that was like a girl eating a pregnant girl eating um eating something like some fast food and she goes uh me rewarding myself because i grew a gallbladder and a liver today and i like and so that like that what i needed to see like i needed to ground myself in that because i was also like grounding myself too much in my friend's business but i should care about my friend's business and i cared more about the stranger's business than my friend's business well and i'm just wondering if there's a level of like i'm just seeing too much of the business because i'm on my phone too much because maybe it's not like i just don't need to see everyone's business what feels like seven to eight hours a day that's how much i'm seeing people's business you know yeah and i do think just like a healthy edit of your social media followers is also a really important thing to do totally always be editing is that you know there's a feature on instagram you can go to who you're following and you can see lease interacted with and you can see who you interact with and then you're like oh i don't even follow your stuff i'm i'm gonna remove you well and sometimes i like to see my most interacted with why is this person always coming up on my page maybe a better way to approach it is most interacted with yeah it's like let me see somebody else for a minute yeah but anyway but please stay interacting with us because we're trying to change the auto industry despite all of that we're still trying to use it for good okay my next fast lane philosophy kind of like a we're going to take a little bit of a nosedive but i feel like on the last episode we talked a lot about you know kind of pulling wisdom from like people who are a couple of phases ahead of you in life and just like the importance of that and this was a really great quote that actually kate shared from nap time kitchen let me go back and find it it's it's like this older woman in this reel like she's an older woman zesting an orange or a carrot and she says changing from how much can i get done to how relaxed I can be while doing it. Let me read that again. Changing from how much can I get done to how relaxed I can be while doing it. Mm-hmm. I want you to think about that. It's just hard to be relaxed when you're like so overstimulated. Yeah. Like it's not always the rat race, you know? it's just like can you get to a place of like you know zen while doing your daily things can you like relax and cook dinner not just cook dinner how relaxed can you be while cooking dinner how can you get yourself there yeah how relaxed can you be yeah no I'm kind of struggling with this one because I like where I like the intent but it's also how relaxed can you be when you're cooking over a hot stove with a toddler pulling on your leg. Well, I'm not sure. I'm not sure I'm at the phase of my life to relate to this one yet. Well, I think that brings us to the next point, which was the real that you saw that I want you to talk about. The real that I saw that was also an older woman. I'm like loving older women content. Please. Like, that's what we need. And she goes, 20 years ago, I was not making my bed every day. I was not baking I was not gardening and the greater point being when she was a mom to young children she um she was not doing these hobbies these things that you see people do on social media that like you aspire to want to do there will be an opportunity in your life to do it it's just not right now and while it feels like so long and like all we have going on I just think about even even our own mom like she's just like totally thriving she's thriving right now and she has hobbies and she's doing bible study and music lessons and golfing and like she's having a great time and her life has been this way for several years longer than the years you know that she was like in the thick of it really totally i it's such um it's such a good reminder that people aren't always showing just like every year and every moment of their life like it's not I that that simple like real in a way like I felt like it gave me the permission to like let go of some of the guilt of the things that I'm not doing right now yeah me too which I agree it's felt really really good because it's like because I don't make my bed because you see like if you make your like these are habits that you need to do every day you need to make your bed it's going to start your day off right it's going to do like these things and like okay well i'm starting my day off by racing a toddler to the toilet because he's potty training right now so forgive me that i didn't make my bed like that is not yeah that's not i'm i'm letting go of the guilt of like well if you didn't make your bed in the morning then you're not going to start your day off in a successful way like i it looks different do you guys want to know something i don't make my bed every day no i don't make my bed every day i mean i prefer it when my bed is made same but i don't think i i don't think there's much of a correlation between the days my bed is made in the days my day my there's not a correlation between the days my bed is made in the days it's not made to me yeah but you know that's like always like the habit to do to set you up for like a good rest of your day like that's always the example that they use why is that i think like getting dressed is more going on getting dressed changes my day more yeah i would agree today's episode is brought to you by skylight i have had my skylight for over a year now. And I really like it for my family. It works well for meal planning. I can schedule our meals and our grocery lists all on the app and I can see it. So it reminds me on the calendar. Change your clothes. anyway speaking of giving things up similar to my phone still a real today really again this was actually my business so I'm happy I saw it um Lent is in like 12 days yeah what yeah wow so if you don't know well I think a lot of denominations like recognize Lent but it's like a really big deal in the Catholic Church and Lent is the 40 days between um Ash Wednesday and Easter right yeah ash wednesday and easter and as catholics we do like a couple of things to like prepare our hearts and our spirits for jesus resurrecting from the dead and a lot of the things that we do is we fast so we fast on ash wednesday we fast on good friday we don't eat meat on fridays which is when we do our fish fries which i cannot wait for fish fry season i have a story about that though in a second and we normally give something up now some people people do this totally differently some people like to add things I like to give things up because we're kind of trying to symbolize the time where Jesus went into the desert and fasted for 40 days so I'm more of the belief and the conviction that like it's to give things up last year I gave up diet coke which honestly was pretty easy okay and this year i want to go hard okay and i want to give up sugar yeah like 100 percent now me and chachi beauty were talking about this because people say like i give up sugar but what does that really mean like fruit you know right sugar in it honey like can i give a sugar probably so but can i have something that's sugar free okay okay so i don't exactly know where i'm gonna land on this i i don't exactly know what my journey is going to look like but i want it to be hard i love that didn't you give up sweets last year what did i give up last year no i didn't i actually have been exempt from lent for the past several years because you are exempt if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. So I was breastfeeding last year. So I didn't, I may have done something, but I- No, you didn't give up sweets because you ate your lactation cookies. Yeah, you did. Oh, I gave up. Oh, you're right. So I didn't have sweets, but I could have my lactation cookies, but it wasn't sugar. It was like a sweet treat after dinner. It was like, you know, chocolate or it wasn't, it wasn't sugar. Anyway- Sugar sounds a lot harder. I know. I think I'm going to be thinking about strategies but I've also seen some reels of people who like cut out sugar and like the difference in their skin and their face and their body within like 30 days is like insane. No they say they feel amazing. They say they feel amazing. So I think the hardest parts are going to be I have to stop having sugar in my coffee unless I'm gonna say like I can have honey because I have iced honey lattes. Yeah. So I'm just like should I count honey or not? anyway you gotta figure that out i'm like not gonna do like sugar free so like i don't know what's in built puff bars but like i'm cutting those out because i don't want it's not just the sugar like i want to get away from the sweets too yeah now we do have some events on the calendar that like i do think i will have to cheat on one event um but it's a really good one because on March 13th which will be like in the middle of Lent um actually our priests are coming over for dinner and we will be having dessert so I do feel as though that would be an exemption or you just don't have the dessert yeah but like I bought it at our dinner auction that like the priests make us dinner yeah so like what if like father comes in with like as a dessert and then I deny it well because you gave up sweets for Lent I think he'll I think that would be an appropriate response to your priest. If anyone would understand. It should be the priest. Well, we'll see. But I'm considering like maybe cheating that one time. But what if I don't like the dessert? I don't know. I'm really excited for you to try something like genuinely hard. No, it's giving, you know what it's giving. It's giving my girl hobby because here I am now. It is. And it's also giving transformation. And I know that people sometimes have a thing to say. It's like, oh, well, you shouldn't just give up fast food because you're doing like for a reason to like be healthier or whatever, like it's so you can lose weight or anything. But I do feel as though you will go through a transformation And I think in a lot of ways that what it about And the other thing that I think is nice when you giving something up if you really really craving it what I like to do is pray instead of Exactly Like have the thing So it like that that what fasting is supposed to do It like when you hungry you supposed to pray So you are constantly brought back to the reason you're doing it and constantly brought back to the Lord. It's a constant reminder of Jesus' sacrifice and love for us. So I am excited. But if I decide to go through this, which I'm like 90 percent sure I am. I'm going to go so ham on Fat Tuesday. day I'm doing a mukbang like catch me yeah doing a mukbang yeah I I'm telling you I don't even with I wouldn't even say I eat a lot of sweets but I definitely have something sweet every day a couple times a day yeah okay I I support you I don't know what I'm gonna do like I said I'm not gonna do anything I won't be fasting I will not have meat on Fridays because I think that's easy to do. I haven't thought about it. I need to figure out what I'm going to do. And so that brings me to my next point. So one of my favorite parts about Lent is the fish fries, which like even if you're not Catholic, get you to a Catholic fish fry during this Lenten season. Me and Tyler love fish fries. We go to several around where we live. We rate them. We give a rating for like the quality of the food and the price, because I think that's important. Like how much because some people some places kids eat free some places kids are 12 bucks some kids don't like it's just very interesting to kind of see how it all comes out the only problem is which i am going to figure this out by then but i have not had fish since my allergic reaction oh yeah now i have introduced shrimp and i was fine all of my blood all of my blood work two blood work panels a prick test everything says I'm not allergic to fish I'm still not going to have anchovies because I do think I am allergic to anchovies but I don't think I'm allergic to like salmon tuna cod catfish so I need to try that prior to my first fish fry and I'm gonna go I like just need to like go to mom's house when like someone else can watch my kids in case I go into a reaction and I need to eat some fish. Yeah, you do. So that's on my to do list. Let me just can I just promote one more time for everyone? If you're not Catholic, why you should still go find a Catholic fish tray near you. Here's why. Number one, they don't just have fish. They sometimes will have like for kids like a pizza or a pasta option. So if your kids aren't going to eat fried cod, like they will have options for them. And it's like a great way to go somewhere, go out and let your kids run around because there's kids everywhere and it's usually in the gymnasium so like you can sit and eat a meal with your husband and it's okay if your kids are are causing a ruckus if they're running around some of them have kids activities most of all of them have playgrounds because it's out of school um and relatively like they're pretty affordable so it's kind of like a good and you get it instantaneously i think the worst part about going out to eat with kids is like you have to then like wait 20 minutes for your food to come no we do it's most of the time it's a buffet style yeah you're getting your food now although i'll tell you what i stood in line for 45 minutes it was like the first it was the first fish fry of lent and i we stood in line for 45 minutes yeah well it was a really popping one so maybe go later in the season as people kind of like get off the fish fry what i also like to go as earlier i would just hit hit hit it sure you know what we went like right we went at the worst time like yeah go as soon as they open you go 5 30 it's gonna be tough we screwed it up yeah i also do like i am a little bougie with it and i will bring my own lemon and tartar sauce and like or like a spicy cocktail sauce if they're serving shrimp there because the sauces that provided just never really quite do it for me but the fish is really good that's a good that's a good hack yeah so okay well moving right along we do have an advice question oh okay and then i have some good industry news and i'm excited about this one because this is a topic that I feel like we always say we want to dive into, but we just never do because there's just bigger fish to fry. So this comes from Taylor. I have an SUV question. My husband and I have a 2013 Chevy Cruze that we absolutely love, mostly because it's paid off, but we have been having issue after issue with it lately. Luckily, my husband's very handy and he usually order parts and fix it himself. However, I'm worried about continuously dumping money into a 13-year-old car with roughly 150,000 miles on it. All to say that we are looking into a two-row SUV. We have two kids, six and two. Our family car is a 2017 Chevy Traverse, which I would give my left arm for. What suggestions would you have for a two-row SUV that is on the larger size and less compact without making the jump to three rows? Would also appreciate the decent trunk. We always buy used and do not care about bells and whistles. We're hoping to stay under 20K. Do you have any suggestions? oh this is an interesting one um i would say i am going to recommend one of my favorite cars i don't even think you're gonna know what i'm gonna say do you want to try though i don't i don't know what you're gonna say and that is something that they stopped making back in i think 2023 which was a mistake and that is the ford edge oh yeah you do love the excellent car excellent car you should be able to find one under 20 like you know go pre-owned that i mean that's like that's a that's a standout car to me in my opinion and the beautiful thing about two row SUVs is like all of them have good trunk space they all right they all have good trunk space but the edge is big it's still affordable especially going pre-owned because the problem with some of the two row SUVs like we you know we talked about the honda passport a lot in recent episodes and the problem with the passport is like it's still so expensive like it's not that much more expensive to get a pilot so you're you know you're paying for other things like you're paying for like the looks and the off-roading capabilities and like other the performance but in terms of you're not saving a ton of money by going that direction so that's just something to think about okay thank you hopefully that helps taylor out so random but i also just i shared this my stories yesterday but I got a huge tea collection order in. They were having some really good sales and I am just obsessed with their clothes and I kind of want to do like a reel on this because I feel like over the years I have really kind of figured out like where the best kids clothes are that aren't like so insanely expensive. I mean you got to hit the sales on some of these places that not everybody has that are exactly the style I'm looking for like I like colorful fun clothes for my kids but not too character-y like I don't know I'm very specific like I don't want I want colorful clothes that aren't ugly believe it or not like that's just like kind of where I've landed on this that's so interesting um and anyway I just wanted to share like where I've been finding my kids clothes recently because it's not your typical like Target H&M Zara Walmart which I also like all of their clothes but these are just like a little bit more off the beaten path if you will and I'm very much um of the mindset where like now that I know I've had the experience of saving kids saving clothes for kids and I kind of paying attention to like what I actually saved and then what I put that second kid in like now that I've done this a little bit with George and Fred and Hattie and Libby now when I'm buying for specifically George and Hattie my mindset is just a little different because I know what I'm going to want to save like I know what's worth saving I know what's worth splurging on and then I know what's like not worth splurging on um and what to me like my biggest problem what it ultimately comes down to is I buy my clothes especially in the past in past I buy too many like nice clothes for my kids and then I buy too many play clothes for my kids and I never have like enough in the middle okay and like even like for something like church like I don't get my kids that dress up for church like my boys are wearing like a Henley maybe a polo like they're not wearing a button down every single Sunday like which is that's just not our kind of vibe so I'm kind of transitioning from like more wearable slightly dressier clothes anyway I'll just say my favorite place to shop for kids clothes if anyone's wondering number one tea collection chef's kiss they have their t-shirts are amazing they they're so fun without being stupid and i love the colors like so basically everything how he wears is from tea collection and all of george's clothes are from tea collection you tell you don't you don't really need to go any further you talk about tea collection all the time i think we all know you're the biggest fan moving on to my next one this is kind of one that you put me on to but like Burt's Bees Babies, go to their website. Bypass what you're finding at Target. Their website has some adorable clothes. Adorable clothes, great jammies, affordable. It's like all my kids. Where I used to with James, I was very much like a little sleepies, Caden Lane, kite baby. And then I realized James was just such a skinny kid that all those fit him really well. And sometimes those bamboo jammies are just like a little bit tight over when you've got like a little roll on your thighs like Sloan does. And I just love the Burt's Bees. They wash great. They, I love the price of them. And I just like, I love buying pajamas for my kids, but I hate spending $36 a pop. Burt's Bees is always on sale. And it kind of like gives me that fix of like wanting new jammies without having to spend it. Well, and I have written down on my summer notes because as I'm like kind of shopping I am kind of referencing back what I wrote about last summer because it's like also the thing is like when you have four kids if you want to buy anything matching or coordinating you have to make haste because then someone's size is going to be sold out in April I'm going to be so mad so I am kind of like starting to curate like a bit of a summer wardrobe for the kids just like kind of six not not not going crazy I'm just kind of like seeing what I need you know what everyone's theme is going to be this year in terms of like okay like Hattie's gonna wear pink and navy boys are gonna wear navy and gray like I'm just trying to be strategic with it like what color crocs am I getting everybody because that was on my list that everyone needs name brand crocs so choosing what color croc to get is a little stressful sure but I did write down that I want my kids to have matching American jammies because like you get I mean those are just so fun to wear like 4th of July Memorial Day Labor Day like whenever we go to the lake and then like I want to Like give everyone a bath and put them in pajamas and have a freaking popsicle outside. Like that's what I want them to get in. So 4th of July jammies are such an underrated holiday to get. Like the other ones are so fleeting. If you like get the 4th of July jammies if you're going to get any holiday. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So my next one was Carter's Little Planet. Unbelievable. go to Carter's website but like only look at their little planet brand the sweetest things Libby's favorite clothes that I got from last year like the clothes that I put in her baby box from last summer were all Carter's little planet and then my last one is kind of like a new find but it's quince yeah they have they have kids clothes now they have kids clothes now and if you like that Hannah I also like Hannah Anderson but I just I find I like tea better than Hannah anderson and i think they're very much the same um quince has started to kind of make i feel like for a while they were just jammies but now they've got like some fun printed dresses they've got some good some good basics so shout out to quince okay love it so anyway i feel like what holiday is coming up president's day question mark easter no but like what sale holiday is coming up i believe it's president's day yeah that sounds right so just you know they might be having some sales so it's just like never unfortunately for us it's never too soon to think about spring and summer clothes for children and this grinds my gears Elizabeth and I have talked about this at length I do get frustrated though like they do in store they flip over the seasons too soon if you walk into a Target right now there's it you'd be hard pressed to find anything with long sleeves on it I know it so stressful And now like the shorts in the in the short sleeve shirts are out And like some of the size is already missing I like do I need to be buying this stuff right now But I don really fully know what size she going to be in like her best comfortable size It really annoying It's exhausting. Okay. Now it's time for industry news where I spill the hot tea going on in the auto industry. Let's hit it. Boy, do we have some hot tea. Okay. The first story is this came across my desk and i'll be honest right now it's only spy photos like it's i haven't found it from like motor trend but i've seen it on enough like third party lesser known websites that i do think it's credible but apparently the santa fe is getting like a redesign or like a refresh because of course they are okay but it looks so much better like okay jaw-droppingly better because the worst part about the Hyundai Santa Fe is exterior. Do you know what it is, Elizabeth? It's it's flat, but no. Oh, it's it's H headlights that look like dog bones. Oh, that's a universal experience. Everyone says that. Here's the new one. It looks like the Lexus TX or GX even. Hold on. I got to look these up. I can't see that very well. Oh, do you want me to send you this facelift? No, I can find it. Oh yeah. Those are better headlights. It's funny. That's the only thing you can see way better headlights so i'm kind of excited about that i'm kind of excited i don't know what's being released at the chicago auto show i got the schedule yesterday toyota's having a big press conference so i'm wondering if they're going to be debuting that like weird car they've been trying to tease and like get buzzed about the highlander perhaps that would be exciting that's like the only like real thing being released i think i mean bmw is having something but like how much i don't know if that's like really what if it's just like a sedan not i mean i just don't know what to do about that right um we'll see i'm also going to brightax is releasing their like new rotating car seat there it's exciting it's like love like that's like a helpful crossover for me cars yeah i love that all in one place like okay i love that i love a car seat launch at an auto show that's what i'm saying i think that's kind of fun do any car seat brands want to do a launch at our auto show do any cars you bring to our auto show does anyone want to do anything at our auto show yeah what do you want to do now is the time we are yeah we are working on our vendors collecting our activations things of that nature and let's just remember remind everyone that the date is june 13th yeah tickets will be available soon but mark your calendar book your flight okay our next story is super bowl is this sunday seahawks verse patriots i have officially switched to cheering for the patriots because of quarterback anime they've been dating since middle school it's adorable and that's where i just realized like i would like free idea i want someone to start a podcast where they just tell me really fun wholesome sports Stories like no offense, leave out the details. Like, I'm sorry. I don't care how many like running yards a person has. Don't care. What is the story? Like Fernando Mendoza had an amazing story. Right. Yeah. What's his name? Who's the Bills quarterback? Josh Allen had an amazing story. Yeah. Drake May has an amazing story. So I'm looking. I just I will cheer for the team that's most likely to get made into a movie. like that's my opinion on sports yeah and i really think we should like i mean i do feel like these people are like so gassed and hyped up as they as they deserve to be but it's like also just like be a wholesome person be a wholesome humble athlete and you will be liked so much more free idea athletes free idea athletes okay athletes um so anyway now i know what you're thinking every team I've cheered for has gotten out of the playoffs the next game yeah so that is tough for the Patriots fans I don't know what kind of luck that I what kind of luck I bring doesn't sound great but you have my enthusiasm okay now let's talk about Super Bowl commercials specifically let's talk about which automakers have um confirmed 30 air second spots okay two of them now these spots cost between eight to ten million dollars yeah that's what this says okay for super bowl lx which is let me think about that 55 no 59 what super bowl is it beats me what is i feel like there was just i feel like there was just a really big one like it was just 50 like a few years ago l is 50 x is 10 if the fifth what super bowl is it they're like lx i'm like no i know no what does lx mean what is up with that the only time roman numerals are literally ever come across our our daily life is the super bowl oh it's 60 that's right okay that makes sense oh it's a big one that is a big one okay i feel like if it's like the 60 like say 60 like also why can't people say super bowl why can you why can't they say big game that feels like a stupid rule i couldn't agree more with you like if you ever notice like any like during the commercials they can't say super bowl they say big game big game um lx that's the term level of some kias that's a fun fact oh yeah we're so done that we didn't know that do you think that's what no that's not what the brands are they're not doing roman numerals no um okay anyway the two automakers are toyota in cadillac these are the only automakers confirmed cadillac is kind of surprising cadillac is super surprising last year ram had one with glenn pal and jeep had one with harrison ford 2024 volkswagen and bmw and toyota had one 2022 featured bmw with arnor schwarzenegger i'm just like i do like when we get the wholesome um like american american truck so that's interesting yeah well i wonder if toyota If they are going to launch this, if they do launch this car at the Chicago Auto Show, then like Smart Next Steps could maybe be a release of it at the big game. At the big game? On a commercial. I didn't think about that. So we'll see. Okay, well, let's talk about what we're making for the Super Bowl because some of us might be hosting. I hosted last year. So I want to say what I got, which I thought was such a good hack. and then kelly's hosting i just want to make a correction the hybrid the new toyota is not being released at the chicago auto show oh okay okay and then kelly is hosting um some friends and so i want to hear what you're making but first i'm going to go first because i did it last year totally last year i had the stumpies over and i ordered in bulk from my local barbecue place i ordered wings and I ordered pulled pork and we made pulled pork nachos and it was a such a low lift meal to throw together and um we had we had delicious wings and also I feel like they're kind of like more affordable when you order them in bulk from a barbecue place um so we had the wings and then we had our entree which was nachos which is like what you need for the super bowl probably had like a veggie tray or like something else on the side but those were like my big things picked up that afternoon super easy i am very i haven't given much headspace to the food to be honest with you mainly because like again i haven't even gone to chicago by the time this podcast has come out yet crazy and i still have to like come back on saturday night wake up sunday church entrepreneurship thing that we're taking the kids to i'll tell you about that after i experience it and then prep food and then have people over the super bowl no and that's why my hack might actually be the move because you just got to order like the bulk of the food and then you just yeah i should probably do that today matinee if you're listening maybe call um i did now i did send out a text to my friends who live around me because the thing is it's like the game's until 5 30 yeah so one i did like i only have people who live close to me and i did say hey if anyone wants to come over super bowl we will be watching the game at least through the third quarter lol I hate how late the game is just to kind of let people know that they're absolutely not welcome to stay till 10 p.m. Yeah. Like that was very much. Yeah. So it's just like stay like we'll all watch the halftime show and then kindly leave. Yeah. Because like by the time that rolls around, like it'll be late and my kids only need to get ready for bed. And it's a school night. Yeah. So I my original thought was I have said for Buffalo chicken dip. I was going to make that. Smart. um i am considering making chili that's a good one and that's all i have i'll do a veggie try i don't know if i do chili i'm gonna like probably stick it to more like more like app apps i can have some sweets still bless um if i don't do chili i was gonna pivot to do like party sliders and like crock pot meatballs like my favorite meatball recipe i'm sorry meatballs barbecue sauce grape jelly what do you know about that yeah i've never made those before oh you put them on like what a hawaiian roll no you just eat them you just eat them sometimes i'll make that let's just make that our ditch the drive-thru because i made that this past week for the kids and i made rice and broccoli and like we put it on a rice and broccoli party meatballs and rice and broccoli what's our what's our grape jelly barbecue sauce ratio oh i have no to taste like one to one like are you doing more barbecue the more grape jelly like i'm probably doing a little bit more barbecue yeah that sounds right let's say if i like fill up my crock pot i mean it's just like we've asked me to measure sauce it's like well how much sauce do you want i don't know yeah but it's not good to know like the general ratio i think i think if you did one to one you would live to tell the tale okay and i think if you're like one and a half to one yeah I like one and a half to one better. Okay. So I'm going to plan that. And yeah, I kind of need to get on it. Okay. Maybe I will just, or the thing with like nachos, it's like I'm having a lot of people over and like, then that's a little harder to like make your own nachos. Yeah, that's true. Maybe I'll just get like sliders. I'm going to do that. That's better. I do think it's a good hack to know that like your barbecue restaurant that you maybe don't think of, like they will probably have wings too that you can pick up. Because I cannot, that's one thing I cannot make at home is my own wings. Like we've tried. It never works out. I'm always ordering wings and picking them up. Yeah, I don't think I'm going to do wings because I'm doing the buffalo chicken dip. Oh, yeah. So I think I'm going to make buffalo chicken dip. I think I'm going to order barbecue pork. I think that's what I'm going to do. Put it in the crockpots so it looks like I made it. Get a line rolls barbecue sauce. Maybe like two types of barbecue sauce to feel fancy. Veggie tray. Maybe like some fruit. I need like one more like app. like one more like I need someone to like make jalapeno poppers you will it feels like someone can offer hey can I bring anything at this point I'm sure they will yeah that's a great thing okay well with that that's gonna be our episode so everyone I hope you have a great weekend hope you enjoy the big game hope you eat great food Kel hope you have a great time in Chicago thanks babe I'm very excited be sure to follow along and we will talk to you on Wednesday See you guys.
