Hey folks, Aaron here. Welcome back to another edition of Deeper Lore, a bonus episode that's designed to serve as a topical guide to the most recent episode of Lore. Oh, and speaking of going deeper, did you hear the news that I announced just a couple of weeks ago? I have a new history book coming out. It's brand new stories, covering the tale of Mercy Brown from the very first episode of Lore and the entire New England Vampire Panic, and exploring it through the lens of some pretty amazing social, historical, medical, and philosophical ideas. The main idea of the book is to answer the question, why did they think that it would work in the first place? And I've been working on this thing for a very long time. The book is called Exhumed, and it comes out on August 4th of this year. You can pre-order it right now, and if you pre-order the hardcover, my publisher has this cool page set up where you can upload your receipts, and you can get a free gorgeous tote bag to go with it. The book will also be an e-book for those who like that sort of thing, and an audiobook, narrated by me, of course. Find all the links you need, more information, see the gorgeous cover all over at my personal website, errenmankey.com, slash exhumed. Alright, so back to deeper lore. In this short bonus episode, I'm going to dig into our vast ten-year archive, and point out some old episodes that fit in well thematically with this week's newest episode. The hope is that maybe you can keep this spooky feeling going well into the weekend, putting a handful of episodes into a new, and maybe more powerful context. So for this week, episode 301 Lost at Sea, we explore the ghostly tales that sail upon the ocean waves. But it's not the first time that we've discussed ghost ships here. So here are three older episodes that should pair up very nicely with this week's new one. First up, episode 21 Adrift. This was the very first ghost ship episode I ever wrote and recorded, and it still holds a special place in my heart. And I will confess, while there are countless amazing ghost ship stories, and I'm going to recommend more in this deeper lore, don't worry. The tale of the Valencia is just… chef's kiss. So seriously, go back and re-listen to that one. Next, download episode 131 Sea of Change. This episode gives some of the lesser-known ghost ship legends a chance to shine. And then, it wraps it up with the grandmother of them all, the Mary Celeste. Don't miss this classic. And finally, there's episode 220 Uplifting. Now, I'm not going to lie, this episode doesn't actually have any ocean stories in it, but what it does have is utterly wild. You see, there was a period in time during the Victorian era where people were seeing ghost ships in the sky, and the stories are really worth revisiting, so do check it out. And there you go. Follow up this week's brand new episode with a trip into the past. Episodes 21, 131, and 220 are waiting for you in this podcast feed. Scroll through your app to find them, or you can tap on their direct links in the description for this episode. And until next time, stay spooky.
