Tim Cook is stepping down as Apple's CEO after 14 years and will become executive chairman on September 1st. He will be succeeded by John Ternus, the current senior vice president of hardware engineering. Cook and Ternus will work together during the summer months to ensure a seamless transition. This marks Apple's first CEO change since Cook took over from Steve Jobs in 2011. Amazon is significantly expanding its investment in Anthropic, committing an additional $5 billion, totaling $13 billion, in exchange for Anthropic spending over $100 billion on AWS cloud infrastructure services over the next decade. This commitment covers up to 5 gigawatts of computing capacity, focusing on Amazon's custom Graviton and Tranium AI chips, including the future Tranium 4, to support Anthropics Cloud AI. This massive deal may foreshadow new funding rounds for valuing Anthropics at billion or more UK Regulator has opened an investigation into the Telegram messaging app regarding allegations of child sexual abuse material sharing a move backed by the 2023 Online Safety Act and Prime Minister Keir Starmer push for platform accountability Telegram, which was recently fined in Australia, denies the claims, stating it has largely eliminated such public content since 2018 and suggesting the probe may be politically motivated due to its defense of privacy. The FAA has classified the failure of Blue Origin's third New Glenn launch as a mishap and mandated an investigation after the rocket's second stage failed, preventing AST SpaceMobile's Bluebird 7 satellite from reaching a usable orbit. CEO Dave Limp attributed the failure to one of the BE-3U engines on the second stage, not producing enough thrust during the second burn. Blue Origin will lead the investigation under FAA oversight, and the company must receive FAA approval for the final report and corrective actions before New Glenn can fly again. Block's Cash App is expanding its financial services to include children age 6 to 12, known as Gen Alpha. These new parent-managed accounts come with a debit card, P2P payment capability, and the ability to earn up to 3.25% interest with features like automated allowance transfers designed to promote financial responsibility. Upon turning 13 children can upgrade to a full Cash App account which includes supervised access to Bitcoin and stock trading This move which targets a new demographic beyond its existing 5 million team users is part of a broader and sometimes debated trend of fintech for miners GitHub has temporarily suspended new sign-ups for certain individual co-pilot plans, including Pro, ProPlus, and Student, and has reduced usage limits. The company cites a strain on infrastructure due to increased compute consumption for new autonomous agentic AI coding workflows. To ensure service reliability, GitHub has positioned the ProPlus tier as the higher capacity option, remove Opus models from some plans, and will now show usage limits directly in VS Code and CoPilot CLI. Affected Pro and ProPlus users can request a refund if the updated plans do not meet their needs. In response to the threat of AI-generated deepfakes co-opting images, YouTube is making its proprietary deepfake detection tool available to high-risk individuals in the entertainment and sports industries, regardless of their connection to the platform. This tool, described by YouTube's chief business officer Mary Ellen Coe as a foundational layer of responsibility, allows actors, athletes, creators, and musicians to register to identify and request the removal of deep fakes from YouTube. The platform has been testing the tool for over 18 months initially with prominent creators then politicians and is now officially extending it to anyone whose livelihood is most threatened by the technology Google Photos is rolling out new touch tools globally for Android devices running Android 9 Plus with 4GB of RAM, allowing users to subtly edit faces by removing blemishes, smoothing skin, brightening eyes, and whitening teeth. These tools, accessible via options like Heal, Smooth, and Teeth, allow intensity adjustment. This update appears to be an attempt by Google to keep editing within the Photos app, although it notes the potential link between constant photo retouching and negative emotions or body image issues. And finally, Yelp has upgraded Yelp Assistant, its agentic AI chatbot, to function across all business categories. The advanced chatbot processes natural language queries for finding businesses, making restaurant reservations, ordering takeout, and booking appointments via new integrations with services like Regaro, ZocDoc, and Calendly. It's currently available on the dedicated Assistant tab on iOS and Android apps and on specific business pages. Full platform support, a desktop version, and additional AI features like personalized homepage and improved photo discovery are planned for later in 2026.
