A Northern Wisconsin landowner and 22-year combat veteran describes his encounters with an unidentified creature on his property, including a close visual sighting while building an outdoor shower. The witness details physical characteristics, behavioral observations, and his methodology for attempting to document and understand the phenomenon.
Insights
- Witness credibility assessment relies on tone, directness, and emotional authenticity rather than detail depth—over-explanation often signals fabrication
- Curiosity-driven behavior in the creature suggests intelligence and investigative nature, responding to novel sounds like power tools
- Military and professional backgrounds provide credible witness pools due to trained observation skills and lower social incentive to fabricate
- Isolation and lack of community support creates psychological burden for witnesses, driving them to seek peer validation and community
- Physical evidence (photos, tracks, environmental anomalies) remains inconclusive despite direct observation, highlighting documentation challenges

In this show, we go beyond the campfire stories to bring you firsthand encounters from people who say they've seen something impossible, from backwoods trails and remote mountain haulers to quiet farms and crowded highways. The stories come from everywhere, and each one leaves us with more questions than answers. These are the voices of the people who've lived it to settle in, because today you'll hear another account that just might change the way you see the woods forever. So stay with us. All right, Big Tha Society, you've got the privilege of talking to Jack today. Jack is an individual I got connected to, and a little bit of background information for Jack. He's a 22-year combat infantry vet. Thank you for your service to our country, Jack. Thank you. We've got some really interesting things to go over today that Jack has experienced. I'll let him share the details for that. But Jack, is there anything else that we would need to know about you for context before we get into things? No, I'm just an ordinary guy that had quite the experience. That's pretty much it. Absolutely. And it's just the wildest thing where this phenomenon keeps happening to people that are just ordinary people. You can really think of any profession, and there have been individuals in that profession that have had encounters. Jack, feel free to take us back to when you first started realizing that you were having an experience that was out of the ordinary regarding this. Okay. Well, I kind of started out with, for years, I've put away money to buy a piece of land to retire on, and I decided to buy a piece of land out in Wisconsin in Chickamawaga, Nicolay National Forest in Wisconsin. And so after I was pretty excited, I was able to get this piece of land in such an area that I didn't have anything. I didn't have any camping gear or any of that stuff. And my grandmother years ago told me, if you feel like you're being watched, you probably are. Anyway, so I went up there and I took the car and I slept in the car that night just because I wanted to be there. And I always had this feeling the whole time that I was being watched. It was kind of weird. Didn't think nothing of it, but that little feeling saved me and I rack a couple times. Anyways, I went back again. This time I had a little pop-up trailer. Second time I ever put it together. And one of the nights I was kind of sleeping, it was first night. And I noticed that the door was open to the pop-up. And I've, you know, obviously had to get up. It was kind of cold. And I heard this roar. And I, I'm not scared of anything, but that scared me. Man only scares me. Or man doesn't scare me. It's God scares me. This thing terrified me. And it was probably, I'm guessing, 50, 75 meters away from where this sound was. And it was a roar that I just couldn't get out of my head. And I didn't think anything of it after that. I, very first thing I said when that happened was, is, what was that? Just like everybody else said as far as I can understand on all the videos. But anyways, I didn't think nothing of it. And kind of made jokes about it and everything. And I'm, I'm one of those guys that, you know, I totally dissed people that believed in Bigfoot or anything like that. You know, I think it was a bobo, the Squatcher or something. And I kind of was like poo pooed it, whatever. I thought it was a joke. Anyways, so I did some, in kind of investigating, I was trying to, I went on YouTube and I was looking for all the sounds in, in that area that any kind of creatures would make. And I couldn't find anything. I even talked to some guys at work. And they're, oh, that's probably coyotes. And no, I know what a coyote sounds like. Anyway, so I, it was about three hours of listening to audios for different creatures. And finally I, I looked up Bigfoot sounds. And I found one that was almost identical, but not quite identical. And it was the top five Bigfoot sounds. It was the fourth one. And it was this is a long howl. Except for the howl that I heard was extremely loud, sounded mean. And at the end of the howl, it was kind of sounded like it was frustrated, if that makes any sense. So, but I didn't think of any of that. So I just kind of went down, whatever. I not even, didn't even think about it then. And so anyway, so that was, that was one year. And then the following year, I think this was two years ago. I know it was two years ago. It was last year. And I was putting together a privy in an outhouse. And I kind of was just after, after, because I want to live on this thing, if I got to have a place to do my thing to build. Anyways, so I was just kind of scanning the woods. And I'm kind of on a old Indian path. This is kind of an extra. It's an Indian path. It was crazy. It's how the trees are bent over. And then they kind of grow up. And it's kind of an old Indian market, or about over, well over 100, some odd years old. My brother pointed out most of them, I just saw two, and he just looked right out. Anyways, going back to that. So there's a water, there's a water access on my, on my land there. Well, I just kind of scanned the woods a little bit. And just took a little break from building the privy. And I saw a black image kind of behind some dead fall. And I looked closely at it. I wasn't sure. It looked like a, it looked like a stump, a black stump with strange bark on it. And I just thought, well, maybe that's just disease. Maybe it's just rotting. Didn't think anything of it after that until then I was thinking, wait a minute, later on, I kind of got on some videos to, you know, because now my interest is peaked. And after, you know, after I just carried on with that and didn't think anything of it. And then went back, I would say it was about June of last year, June or July. And I thought as I was building, I was building an outdoor shower at this point. And I took a little stop and I thought, wow, you know, maybe I should go over and take a look at that black stump just to make sure, you know, and I looked over in that area and that black stump had moved on the other side of the dead fall. That's when I, and it was still kind of behind some brush, but not much of a brush. And I thought that thing moved. And I looked closer at it, and I kept looking closer at it. And when I saw an eyeball, and I saw two eyes looking, this is the process how it happened, I saw the, I saw it would be the left eye. And then I saw the right eye and they were, it was clear as day. And I, and then I saw the reflection off a cheek. And it was black, it was a black skin, and then it started all coming together. And it looked like a stump. It looked, it looked young, I don't know if it was a female or a male, but it was kind of sitting on its hunches a little bit on its heels, just watching me. That's what it was doing. It was watching me build. And I took a good look at this thing. And I always told these guys before this happened, I said, yeah, if I see a big foot, I'll just wave at it, you know. Well, I looked and I made sure, I was made sure what I was looking at before I moved away, not looking at it. And sure, it was incredible. And I reached down for my phone in my pocket really fast to get a picture and lo and behold, my phone isn't there. It's on the table about, you know, 20, 30 feet away. And I thought, okay, this thing by time I move, it's going to get up and move. Well, I grabbed my phone and I figured this out, my whole actions, I think I was in shock because of my following actions. And I grabbed the phone and I zoomed to where this black image was and I just started hitting the button as fast as I could. And that was this kind of hoped something that would come out of that. And what I should have done is not zoom and just started taking pictures now that I see all the pictures. And I just thought, and I was, and it was towards the end of the day where I was needed to get back everything up and head home because I had so much time and had to get going. Well, I just thought, okay, I'm going to take pictures of this thing and I'm going to continue on and I'm not going to scare it because I think I figured out how to draw it in. So I didn't want to provoke it or let it know that I saw it. So after that, I kind of just packed up my things and I left. And then I kind of started watching more videos, going over more videos and it was like, wait a minute, you can honestly see, you know, you can tell who's actually seen one and who hasn't. And it's just in the end of their videos and then you see some of the videos where it's obvious it's fake and then there's some that's obvious that this is something. Unfortunately, my photos, it's kind of the closest one I got, the clearest one I got is, it's kind of a slightly blurry image where you can see the cheekbone and you can see the eye socket and one eye, but it's not clear. So I can't even, I won't even post that. But I figured out how I drew it in because it happened twice. And when I was using it, I was using an impact branch or impact drill where it would make a weird click sound at the end of the drill. And I did hundreds of those and I think that's why it came in to basically sit back and watch me build these things. So I can't wait to get back there this year and try it out and see if I can draw them back out and just get a better picture. It's not much of a story, but that's my story. I think that's an incredible account. My goodness. I do definitely have some questions for you. Yeah, shoot them please. So you're looking at it, it's sitting on its haunches. It looks like a black stump at first. How tall would you say that black stump type object? It's hard for me to determine how tall it was because it was the distance. The distance, I would say was probably 50 meters. And I would say, this is just a guess. I would say if it was sitting on its haunches, I'd say it was probably about six foot tall from sitting on its haunches, but I'm not absolutely positive. I got to go out to that tree and mark it. And it was by some trees, I could mark it and see about where it was sitting on its haunches. Okay, gotcha. 50 meters is about the length of, I think, two tennis courts. Yeah, it wasn't very far away at all. And honestly, it was about 40 to 50 meters away from me. And like I said, I think I was in shock because I should have just sat there and just started taking pictures of it because the eyes were clear as day. It was, yeah, that was amazing. I've never, ever, have thought that I would be one of them people that saw a big foot in my entire life. So anyways, yeah, that's kind of my, you know, I've just been doing research and now I've been, you know, looking for organizations to go to, to find, you know, speak to other people and see what they've found. And I've, you know, kind of burnt out on the videos. I just want to speak to some humans, but actually who actually have seen this and experienced this with me because I feel alone. You know, there's nobody really to talk to except for my wife. And she doesn't think I'm crazy at all. So. Which that's a plus. I, that is, I thank her for not, I thank her for not, you know, not berating me. Yeah. But yeah, so she's very supportive. And I told her, I says, you watch, I'll try to draw it in. I warn her, says, if you see it, please don't run and don't scream, don't do anything. How long do you think time wise you were able to, to see it there in front of you? If I was able to, I probably could have sat there. If I had time, I could have sat there the whole time and waited for it to get up and walk away. I mean, it was cleanest day. I, like I said, I didn't want to spook it and not come back. So that was kind of my thinking. But there was so many things going through my head when that happened. You know, was I wasn't sure how to make a clear decision if I should just make sure if I got proof of this. But my thought, my thought process was, well, once I take pictures of this and then look at the pictures, then I can absolutely be absolutely positive that this is not, I'm not crazy. Right. Oh yeah. Well, and the picture show, you know, because it kind of, you can kind of see when I walked away, it turned its head. So I got a photo of it on the kind of a side, just a little bit of an angle of the face. So I zoomed in too closely and pretty much. Gotcha. Yeah. So the actual, the actual amount of time that you did, that you were able to have eyes on, would you say it was like a minute, less than a minute? Oh, what I actually had eyes on was a brow, about maybe a minute and a half, two minutes. Wow. Because I just had to convince myself that I was seeing what I was seeing. Because make sure I was convinced, make sure I was convinced of what I was seeing. Yeah. And I was absolutely positive of what I saw, but I needed photos to confirm this and be able to show someone. Look, I'm not crazy. This is what I saw. Well, again, blurry photo. So, you know, I don't speak to anybody really about it. I told a couple of family members, but that's about it. And my wife, and again, I guess there's a Bigfoot Society meeting or something like that in October and something in Wisconsin. That's where I'll be, I'll be heading there. Oh, cool. Yeah. So it's got to be some kind of Bigfoot conference, I would imagine up there. That's pretty cool. Have to look into that. Do you remember any details about the eyes themselves? The eyes, yes. Oh, yeah, geez. It's going to sound kind of weird, but the eyes, you can see all the way, the white all the way around the eyes. Because when I was looking at it, it was looking at me like it was surprised that I noticed it. That was the expression on its face. Does that make any sense? Yeah. So when you, so you could tell it was surprised, how could you tell it was surprised by the eyes itself? Because the eyes were so wide. They were wide open. I could see white all the way around. Interesting. Yeah. And then in the nose, the nose was kind of a, how would you say it was like a regular nose, but it was flat. It wasn't an eight nose. It was a human nose, but flatter. If that makes any sense, the skin was black. I could see the sun reflect off its cheekbone. That's how I was able to put it all together. Once I had the eyes and then I hit the cheekbone, and you can, you can see the four, I saw the forehead. There wasn't any reflection on the forehead, but it was, you can see there was a, you know, no skin on the forehead. The mouth was kind of, I didn't really get a glimpse of, or glimpse at the mouth because I was so fixated on the eyes. Because I mean, when something's looking back at you like that, you know, it's, okay, what are you going to do? So yeah, that's, that's, that's about what I have. You know, like I said, it was sitting on its heart, his arms were kind of on its knees and it was, it looked like a big black stump. With weird bark on it. And it was lumpy. That was the other one. It was lumpy. That was the first time I noticed it was lumpy. I'm like, well, that's some weird, that's a weird looking tree and bark. It was kind of lumpy and it had weird black bark on it. And then again, the last time it was lumpy, black bark with eyeballs. Wow. Yeah. Yep. The eyes, did they have a certain color to them? You know, I, you guys, I see these old red eyes or other. No, it was just regular eyes. This, this, this, this was a mape. This was a forest ape. The best way I can describe it. I mean, you would have to be that big to be able to take on the wilderness. You know, bears and moose and all that. But no, there was no red eyes. There was no green eyes. It was just, I couldn't tell you the color of the eyes. I know they were black. But if I got closer, you could probably see, you know, I'm guessing they were probably brown. I don't know. Gotcha. Did you notice if they were, if the one eye was far away from the other one, or were they close in proximity? They weren't far away. You know, they were kind of like a normal face. They weren't very far apart. They were just kind of a normal looking, you know, normal, they were putting in the right place. I mean, it wasn't oddly together or oddly separated. It was just, you know, a normal face, but it was, it was not, I guess it was, it wasn't a human face because it obviously couldn't have been a human face, but it was kind of a human face. That makes sense. No, it absolutely does. You know, based on other things that I've, I've heard over the years, were there any details about the face that really made it jump out that, okay, this is an ape-like face that I'm looking at right now? That really jumped out. Nothing, I don't know how, no, it was, no, nothing that jumps out. It was, it was just a black face. You know, it wasn't hairy. It wasn't a hairy face, but it was kind of hairy around the mouth area, but not really, you know, it was kind of a beard, but it was a big beard. And the only place where there wasn't hair was on the cheekbones and on the forehead and on the nose. Okay. I've seen, I've seen drawings, and it was like, you know, which number went to, went through 20, whatever. And the one I saw was number 16, and it had round, but it had rounder eyes. And I don't know, it's, if you've done any research, I didn't, you know, kind of catch it here and there online. Okay. No, I don't, I've done so much surfing. It's crazy. Oh, I bet. I mean, it seems that after you have an experience like this, you either jump in head first or a year, just, I don't want anything to do with this ever again. Yeah. Yep. And I was, I was, you know, the first two times I was in denial, you know, not completely, but I'm still curious. And then the third time I'm absolutely positive. I'm, I'm dumbfounded that, you know, that this isn't a known species. After doing, after doing all the surfing on that, I'm not the only one, there's other people that have seen these things too. So I don't really feel totally alone about it. But still, I need, I need somebody to talk to. Absolutely. Did you have any electronics on you the first time when you went out there? Electronics on me. Well, just my phone. There's, there's no internet service out there. There's no phone service. It's literally in the middle of nowhere. Gotcha. And the phone was turned on? Yeah, the phone was turned on, but it was in my camper the first time I, well, the first time I saw something. So I didn't even bother taking a picture. But this time it was on the workbench, where I was, you know, putting things together and I didn't have it in my pocket. That's true. So, so maybe I just want to double check. So the first time that you saw the stump slash, well, Bigfoot, that phone was not on your person, correct? No, no, it wasn't on. Was there anything else on your person that would have been electronic? No, absolutely nothing. Interesting. I had a drill and a battery operated drill. That's it. Okay. It is, are there any other things that you've noticed on the property that would tell you evidence that you might have something else on this property with you besides the visual that you had? Well, yeah, it was when I first looked at this piece of land. There was an old hard side trailer in there and it was in the license plate. Last time anybody was there was 1989. And I didn't think anything about it until after I saw what I saw is that there was a tree that was next to it. And the trailer was like halfway, I mean, the tree was like halfway in between halfway, I would say in the trailer. And it looks like that tree fell on that trailer. Square on. So the trailer was on its left side, tree was on its left side. And somehow this tree fell on this trailer. And it had to have moved in order for that tree to land like that, it had to have been directly behind the trailer. And it wasn't, it was on the left hand side of the trailer. I didn't think anything of it. But I get it now, I think somebody had a tree fell on that trailer for who knows what reason and left never came back. But like I said, the tree way it fell, it was impossible for it to land the way it landed. If that makes anything, but that's, I kind of look back at that, that wasn't, you know, it was kind of a weird coinkie dink the way the tree fell on this thing, because it would literally have to, how would you say, move back and over five feet to land on this tree or land on the trailer. Right. So who knows. But again, I put it all together and I heard that sound. And it was a roar, it was a definite roar. But it sounded like it was like disappointed. Somebody is there or something of the sort. So that was super close. That was that scared me. That scared me. And I that's when I realized I didn't even have a butter knife to defend myself to leave any DNA. So I stayed up, I stayed up the rest of the night, waiting for the store was about an hour away and I was in it opened at seven. So I waited until six o'clock in the morning. This was about, I don't know, two, three o'clock in the morning when it happened. And I ran to the store and I got myself a machete just in case. Sure. Yeah, absolutely. Are there any, are there any neighbors close to the property? And if yes, have you talked to them been like, hey, having any weird stuff happen around here? I do have a neighbor and I haven't had the opportunity to speak to her. I see her, she's driving, she drives whenever I'm there, she's driving some white truck driving by. So but this year, I will go up to her house and knock on the door. She is a permanent residence there. And it's, it would be kind of a rough life up there, because it's pretty deep in the middle of nowhere. But I will go speak with her. I'm not sure if I'm going to bring up the big foot thing right away. You know, I just want to introduce myself to her first and maybe ask her if she's heard anything strange. Right. Yeah, exactly. Sounds like a sounds like a good idea. You mentioned something really interesting that you experienced after this, this visual that you had. And you started to realize that you can tell a difference between people that say that they've seen it and really haven't and people that have really, really seen it. And they definitely have. Can you, can you explain what that means? Yeah, I'll try to do the best I can with that. It's a tone of voice. It's an excitement tone and a voice when they've, when you actually seen it. It's kind of hard to describe it. You can, you know, you get on the videos and hear people talk. And it's like, I, they, people get too in depth, really too highly detailed to where they're really trying to push that they've actually seen it. And then you have people that are kind of, you know, kind of, how would you say, a little more excited, a little more straightforward to the story. And how I can pick it out. Kind of had that job in the service also. Yeah, again, again, so sometimes people get way too detailed, they start going into their entire life story. And it's like, we really don't want to hear this. We just want to hear what happened, you know, that's what I'm thinking on the videos. I get it. And that's actually, I picked up something similar to that when I first went out to Oregon and was able to talk to a lot of people face to face. You're like, oh, okay, now I get it. Like, yeah, absolutely. My goodness. So you know what I'm, you know what I'm talking about. I know what you're talking about. 100%. Yeah. Yes, I sure do. So you are, you're at the point where, would you say later this year, 2026, you're going to start building more on this property? Well, this year, I'm going to, I got a lot of trees that are falling and I got to chop them up and all that this year. And I'll put up a gate just a couple of little odds and ends this year. But yeah, as soon as the snow melts, because I think right now we got about four feet where the property is four or five feet, and there's more coming. So it'll be next fall, I'll be able to get out there and I'll do, you know, do some of my work, but I'll definitely sit down and put some time on the side to try to call them in. See if I can. With the drill. Yeah, with the drill. I mean, people, I saw people using a baseball bat on a tree or hooting and hollering or something like that. I don't know if they work. I don't know. But I know for a fact that this drill, well, not for a fact, but I know this drill could be one of the things that have drawn it in. I mean, I can't imagine why anything else would come in and sit there and watch, you know, be entertained with the drill because it makes a weird sound. When every time you have, you know, you screw one screw, put a screw in. It's such a strange thing, but it is a pattern that I've seen in other ways where, you know, there was an individual on the Olympic Peninsula that was able to bring them in with with a bagpipe. And so sometimes maybe it's just a sound that they're not used to. And so they're extremely curious about it. Who knows, right? But have you heard that drill sound in the woods around your property outside of you using the drill? No. Okay. Gotcha. It'd be interesting if you ever start to hear that. Sometimes that will happen like a weird mimicry type deal. Really? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I've had that reported. Have you ever experienced anything on the property that is weird, but you're like, it's definitely not bigfoot related, but it still just doesn't make sense? Nothing that I can think of right now. Cool. Nothing like that. However, I did, you know, not on the property, but I took a little hike. I won't go in the woods anymore where I'm at without a firearm anymore. But I took a little walk up to the north, head north. And there was some trees falling over. And I kind of watched in some videos and the Squatchers were pointing out how they're crisscrossed in the branches. And I noticed that before I even saw the videos. And I just thought, wow, how did those trees end up like that? That's kind of weird how wind blows them over and how they go inking, inking, you know, interlock each other. And then I started watching these videos and went, oh, this kind of makes sense now. Well, you have an interesting situation going on your property for sure, Jack. It'll be interesting to see what happens. How are you viewing things there? Are you just trying to figure out how to live with whatever is there or how are you viewing this now? Oh, I'm just going to live with it. I hope he shows up or he or she or whatever it is shows up. And, you know, I don't kill anything. I won't shoot anything anymore. I won't do any of that anymore. I just want to live together with in peace. Whatever it is can come around and look and see and do whatever. Just don't break anything or, you know, that's kind of my thought about this whole situation. I want to live and let live. And I don't want people to come into the area and start disturbing the area looking for, you know, Bigfoot or Sasquatch or whatever they want to call it. Just, you know, I think they should live in peace. And honestly, I think there needs to be some sort of protection. Something, you know, something. Trust me, I was not a believer at all. At all. And I am now. I'm not a believer. I'm a witness. And it's kind of, I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse, you know? I think that's a great way to put it as it can be looked at that both ways. But, you know, Jack, thank you so much for coming on the show today. I want to make sure that you were able to share everything that you're wanting to share about your experience. Yes. And I will let you know if I run into any other issues, you know, this year or the summer. Have you ever heard all the accounts of Bigfoot activity around Oak Ridge, Oregon, and you think to yourself, man, I would love to get out in those woods and experience it for myself? Well, guess what? This year you can. If this is interesting to you, stay tuned because it's pretty cool. Sasquatch Summer Fest is coming up July 10th through the 11th, 2026. It's going to be even better than the previous year's. Reason number one, I'll be one of the speakers. It's going to be wild. I'll probably, I'll say this, there may be stuff you haven't heard anywhere else because let's just say sometimes it's, well, you just got to be there. We'll leave it at that. More about looking for Bigfoot in the Oak Ridge woods. Now check this out. You may know Jason Kenzie from his documentary series, Searching for Sasquatch. Well, this year you can not only go to the festival, but you can also sign up for a trek deep in the wild forest outside of Oak Ridge with Jason Kenzie to the Bigfoot spots to look for Bigfoot. There's only eight spots to sign up for this, and yes, this will also be filmed for the next chapter in his documentary series, which is Searching for Sasquatch. This is a once in a lifetime deal. It's just, trust me, it's going to be a wild, wild experience. To get a ticket, head on over to SasquatchSummerFest.com and listeners can use the code BSP, like Bigfoot Society Podcast, in order to get a two day pass for the price of a one day pass. So thanks to Priscilla for giving me that code so that you guys can get a little help with the cost there. Appreciate that, Priscilla. I hope to see you at the booth in Oak Ridge this year. We can talk about your encounter. I was able to talk to so many people last year and the year before. It is an incredible time. You're not going to want to miss it, and I'll see you there. Before we wrap this episode, I want to say something directly to a very specific group of listeners. If you're in the military, any branch or forces, and if you've seen something that no one can explain, or if you're a national park ranger or forestry worker who's been told to stay quiet, if you're a pilot who's seen something strange down on the ground, or if you're with the FBI, a federal agency, or working intelligence, and you stumbled upon something you're not allowed to talk about, and if you're a firefighter, paramedic, or search and rescue responder who's heard screams or found tracks that didn't make sense, if you're in the logging industry on a remote oil field or a trucker with government contracts, and you've had something happen that you've never told a soul, and if you're a biologist, a wildlife specialist, or a field researcher under contract who has found evidence you're not allowed to report, if you're a pastor, a missionary, or someone on a spiritual retreat, and you saw something that shook your faith, or if you work in the shadows, CIA, NSA, or anything with clearance, and you've seen what the public hasn't, then I want to talk to you. Even if it's anonymous, you can reach me at BigfootSociety at gmail.com. The world needs to hear what you've been forced to carry alone, and you're not alone. You've got the story, we've got the mic. See you in the woods. Thank you for listening to this episode of the Bigfoot Society podcast.
