Hi, I'm Danielle Robay, host of Bookmarked, the podcast by Reese's Book Club. And this week, we are talking about a monster. Or maybe the woman who refused to be one. I'm sitting down with Maggie Gyllenhaal to unpack her new film, The Bride. And trust me, this isn't your grandmother's bride of Frankenstein. What I was more interested in was the monstrousness inside of each of us. You can spend your life running from those things, or you can turn around and shake hands with them. Listen to Bookmarked, the Reese's Book Club podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When you feel uncomfortable, what do you put on? Biggie. Talking to your kids about the dangers of vaping can be hard. Getting them to listen to hot gossip is easy. So here's some drama you could share with your kid. Dude, did you hear about Cassie and Jake? No, but did you hear that vaping can cause irreversible lung damage and nicotine affects brain development? Nuh-uh. You don't need to gossip if you want to have an open conversation about vaping. So if you want to get tips on when and how to talk to your kids, visit talkaboutvaping.org. Brought to you by the American Lung Association and the Ad Council. Hey, it's Alec Baldwin. This season on my podcast, Here's the Thing, I talk to composer Mark Shaman. It's about the hang. It's the pleasure of hanging out with the people that you're with. You know, Rob and I was always a great hang. And journalist Chris Whipple. Every White House staffer, they work in a bubble called the West Wing, and it's exponentially more so in the Trump White House. So you laughed, Shannon, that people would want to know about Donna Kelsey. Yeah. now it's all just people making jokes and questions about my house thing that's why people get into it yeah i want to know what's going on at your house i'm much more interested in that than one person writes matt are you going to give out white necklaces at your pool that's not very nice it's not very nice do we need a lifeguard on hand okay yeah we don't need a lifeguard adult swim uh it's very nice it's like a wading pool so he'll be you can get in it and yeah yeah it's small it's not it's not huge it's a kid you can check your ph levels every week it sounds like a kiddie pool it's not a kiddie pool it's an actual pool wow one person writes matt ryan's a realtor how would he describe it i'll let you do that how would you describe it it's a very modern two-story house that has an open floor plan beautiful backyard covered back deck with a pool two primary rooms on the first floor which is perfect for larry and karen that climb any stairs got two bedrooms upstairs and then a big great room upstairs that's perfect for like a man cave i'm gonna build a studio shannon there you go yeah you should you should as much as you do the show from home well i'm not for this i'm still gonna come in for this but like It's really for TV, like ESPN and stuff. They want to film our show or whatever, and I really don't have a place for them to do it. That room's perfect for that. Yeah. So anyway, Ryan was a good realtor. One person writes, Matt, are you going to have your neighbors have a shovel for you to use? Have not met my neighbors. Scared to meet them, Drew. I don't know if I want to know them. I know where you live. I wouldn't just like set tables on the curb in that neighborhood. You might be there a while. Is there an HOA? Yeah, there is an HOA. Oh, those are the worst. Yeah. I don't know what that means, really. It means they charge you a lot of money to live there and give very little back in return. Okay. Yeah. Let me ask you this. When you move to a new place, do you knock on the door to meet? I don't have like – but I do have some people that are right there. Are you supposed to go meet them? or do they go come meet you? I think like in more rural areas they kind of do that but in the city nobody does that anymore. So you don't knock on the door of your neighbors and say hello? No. When I moved in one of my neighbors knocked on the door with a bottle of bourbon and introduced himself and the other I just kind of met organically. But we became pretty close. Okay. So it's still not an answer. Should I knock on their door or not? Mine came to me. You think you should Shannon? I think you should because look. you may need them they may need you you know if you're out of town you need something it's good to know who your neighbor is they could go over there and check on your house if you need them to you know maybe they'll cut your grass i just had some new neighbors move in by me and i've waved at him when i drove by but i'm not i didn't go down and oh you need to go meet you're mr friendly you should go meet him i will i will one of these weekends so that's a no all right uh one person writes you're gonna let ryan have his famous pool parties there no he does not get he's not bringing the UK offensive line to my house yeah no that'd be great no you can balls in your pool you keep them over uh at your house all right a couple things here first of all if you get some time today you need to to watch the video of I didn't know anything about this till this morning have has anybody been watching any of the world baseball classic no I've been keeping up a little okay I really haven't I watched a little bit of the USA and Mexico last night but so i didn't realize chechia what used to be called the czech republic they have a team but they don't really baseball's not big there so i think they're like the worst team in the thing and they're in the bracket with all those teams in asia that are really good drew or you know ryan like like japan korea taiwan etc yes okay so the chechia goes and plays and the opening rounds there are in Japan. So they are playing Japan in Japan. And, of course, Japan in Japan is massive. Shohei. What was the pitcher for the Dodgers? Yamamoto, is that his name? Yamamoto, yeah. Yeah. So they're all there. Well, I didn't know this, but three years ago when they played this the last time, Chechia played in Japan again. And there's a pitcher for Chechia who is an electrician, okay? doesn't even play baseball as a profession. Just plays in like a team in the city for fun. Okay, he's an electrician. And he comes and he's their best pitcher. And in the Tokyo Dome against Japan three years ago, he strikes out Shohei Otani in front of everybody. Oh, my. I'd say that's shocking. It was shocking. For an electrician. pitched five innings completely over his head i got it i got you it took me a minute pitched five innings um with and allowed no runs no hits and because japan is so baseball obsessed and because japan ended up winning this dude became a national like story in japan who is this Chechnyan electrician who came and struck out all of our players all right so I was reading for the last three years he's lived in Chechnya nobody cares because baseball doesn't matter there but they brought him to Japan once and he said he couldn't go anywhere without people stopping him he's a celebrity in Japan but not a celebrity at home that's kind of interesting isn't it Kind of weird. An opposing player. An opposing player. Because it's the legend of, that's the guy who struck out Shohei, who's an electrician. Fast forward to while we were sleeping last night, three years later. He pitches against Japan again in the Tokyo Dome. He is retiring from baseball. He's in his 30s. He decides, Ryan, I'm not going to play baseball anymore. This is his last hurrah. This is going to be his last game against Japan. Tokyo Dome's full. Pitches last night. Strikes out Otani again. Wow. He's got his number. Strikes out Otani again. Five innings, or four and two-thirds innings scoreless. So at the end of the fifth inning, the Chechenian manager comes to the mound to pull him so he can get a standing ovation. And you have to watch this video. He's walking out off the mound in front of 80,000 Japanese people who give him a standing ovation, like the loudest ovation you've ever heard, and he begins crying and waving at everybody. It's one of the coolest things I've ever seen. And then when the game is over, the Japanese win like 10-0 because all the other pitchers stink. All the Japanese players come to take their picture with him, this Chechen Chechen electrician who has now pitched against the best team in a like the best players in baseball and in for 10 innings has yet to give up a run and has struck out Shohei Otani twice. Isn't that a great story? Why is he retiring again? Like why would you not stick with that? It sounds like he's really good if he can strike out the best players in baseball. I don't know. He's just going to keep being an electrician. This is a Disney movie. This is awesome. Disney movie absolutely it is and he said since they've been in Japan he can't walk down the street but that when he goes home no one knows who he is wow they're I'm watching the video I got I got chili bumps right now watching it he's also tiny with a huge beard he's got a huge beard he looks like a cartoon character there's the Japanese guys honoring him wow his fastball tops out at 80 he throws it 80 Shannon and he and he keeps like baffling Shohei Ota I mean that's batting practice it sounds like but somehow he can't hit him can't score on him yeah i think it's a crazy story great story wouldn't it be weird to live in your home and no one know who you are but have a country around the world where everyone knows the perfect situation because you could go out and nobody would recognize you you would never have to worry about you know living that celebrity lifestyle in public because nobody knows you yet you're famous somewhere else but if you ever wanted to feel like a star you just go somewhere else absolutely go to japan get on a and be like hey everybody i'm here yep would you move to tokyo if you were here he probably wouldn't have to be an electrician it's true yeah probably they hire him he'd be a coach on their japanese national team be a celebrity so i was watching this video this morning and when the show is over this afternoon i'm going to learn more about this to think about only he's only pitches there once he did it three years ago so there was all this hype that he was going to do it again and you would assume shannon he'll get let down he does it again that's crazy that's a wild story the stadium is packed that's a wild story yeah great story and i think it is uh electricians must make really good money if he's turning that down to not be a baseball player that's a good question well but i mean he only throws 80 maybe he i think he doesn't want to play baseball drew because the myth of him might go away yeah if he tries to play regularly and people watching him and he's just giving up runs left and right. This is going to be forgotten. Sign that million dollar contract and let them figure it out. I kind of like the mystery of I just every three years come in and baffle you all. Yeah. I love the video because he takes a moment to kind of just stop and just soak it all in. It's awesome. Yes. Wow. So anyway, I think it is a great story. One person writes, guys make everybody predict how many games do we win in the SEC tournament? what's our seed in the NCAA tournament? I think we win two we lose Friday I think we play Florida close I actually think we play them well Friday but lose and if we do that and play them well I think we end up a six seed in the NCAA tournament That going to be my pick What about you Drew I think we lose to Florida but I think we going to be stuck in the seven seed line So get two games there, then maybe you surprise us and make a run in the big tournament. What about you, Ryan? Yeah, we get LSU. We owe Missouri. I agree with you. We played Florida tight. We've given them a decent battle the last two games we've played them. end up that 6-7, 6-7 seed. 6-7. And please stop. Even six-year-olds think that's lame now. You can stop, okay? 6-7. Yeah. I think they win a couple of games. You're then, what, 21-13? You'll be 21-13. And you've got to remember, all the teams you're competing with, they're going to lose in their conference tournaments, too. You know what I mean? So, like, everybody's going to take a loss. But go ahead. You know, I really agree with you. I was going to say 6-8 before you even said it, So I'll go along with you and say two wins and a six seed. Now, if you lose to LSU, you will drop to an eight or nine. So, I mean, the LSU game I actually think is very, very important for seeding. This person says they're my new neighbor. Allegedly. Yeah, but how do you know? I don't know. I don't even know where you live. I'll tell you what. Here's what you do. Ask them their address. I'm afraid they may hang up on them if I do it. Well, it's worth it. We won't say it on the air But I want to see if they actually are my neighbor And then we'll take them in the next segment If they are Before you do that let's go to Adam Go ahead Adam Hey what's up Matt I'm by no means an interior decorator But I do know how to hang pictures And I'm very good at picking out Scenic candles I think I got the candles part now Man awesome interview with Coach Don yesterday at the beginning of his tenure, Coach Stoops was like that, just fiery dude. He was, yeah. Just tell in his face that he was ready to go. And I think that just kind of weighed on him as his tenure went on. And yesterday, you could hear it with Coach Stein. So he's got me really excited about the season. I agree with you, Adam, and I appreciate the call. I will say, when he was talking, Drew, you couldn't help but get energetic. And I know people are right. Stoops would do that stuff early on. But there was something about looking at me and saying, if you're scared, go to church, which I guess is an ice cube line, which I didn't know, but still saying it and then kind of going, look, six seconds of hell. I mean, all that stuff made me go, all right, I love the energy. Let's do this. Oh, that got a lot of people. I'm sure you heard it all afternoon. I did too, including the neighbor talk. My neighbor Brian walked over yesterday when I was outside to talk about the Will Stein interview. It's like we're all excited. March is here right in front of us, but Will put a lot of attention on football with that excitement he brought to the interview yesterday. I mean, Ryan, how could you not? Our fan base needs someone to sort of inject us with belief, and it's a new voice, and I think it worked. At least it did on me. It worked on a lot of us, I think. We all got excited. Just that excitement, the energy level, I think. Like I said yesterday, we love Coach Stoops. He did great things here, but the program needed that. Needed that breath of fresh air. It's an attitude we haven't really heard. I mean, I love Stoops, but like he said towards the end, this is hard. you know will stein said the opposite what do you want me to cry about it he's like bring it he didn't say it's hard he said he's ready to go tackle the challenge so that looks like that is my neighbor say is that your address so we'll put them on next yes the commonwealth causes ultimate bourbon collection raffle is your chance to win an incredible bourbon collection and support kentucky charities at the same time here's the challenge if we sell 500 tickets this month five thousand dollars will be donated to charities the boys and girls club of appalachia and Teach for America Appalachia. That's what creates community. And that's the main thesis of our book club and why we started it It was just to connect people together. Listen to The Bookmarked by Rees's Book Club podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I went and sat on the little ottoman in front of him. Yeah. What do they do? Their center fielder teaches geography. Okay. Doesn't say the position, but one of them works at a firehouse and he has to be there 24 hours before he gets two consecutive days off to play baseball. Really? Yeah. That's interesting. Okay. One of them works in sales. All right. Those are the three lists in this article, but it looks like we're right that they all just have random jobs around. See, I love that. I love that. I think that's awesome. I wish I had known about their. they're apparently done they're out but i would have loved to have watched one of their games and i you know they played they played while we were sleeping last night uh in losing to japan all right so the the neighbor is on shannon this is my this is my neighbor yeah all right hello what's your name uh troy first time long time who are well nice to meet you nice to meet you as well welcome to the neighborhood well thank you now we're not you're not going to say where it is but uh am i gonna like everybody i think so most people in the neighborhood are in florida in the cold months anyway so it's quiet okay so everybody leaves yeah that sounds like my kind of neighborhood okay well good uh so what do i need to know um not much just uh you know you got some really good neighbors on both sides. How old is everybody? I'd say beside us, they're all in their 60s, 70s. Perfect, Shannon. That's perfect for me. Party time. We got some younger boys, so we'll try not to bother you too much. Oh, that's okay. I'm sure it'll be fine. I have a question for him. Yes. We heard, Troy, that there was like a little cart path you could get to the clubhouse from where you guys live on that street. He's already messing up, Shannon. He's already messing up. I told you. You know what? Just shut up, Ryan. See how he's going to talk to you. That's not what I'm going to do. You seem wonderful, Troy. I appreciate it. Leave with Shannon where you are and I'll come say hello at some point. Sounds good. Hey, a quick follow-up question for you guys to chop up really quick. And before I ask it, just a quick shout out to the cold takes group chat. I've got a group chat with some guys and a lot of different topics. You call it cold takes, cold takes. All of the opinions of the guys are terrible opinions. Yeah, real quick. So who's going to be our next coach after Pope is, uh, is let go. Yeah. I have no idea. They'll tell you at the HOA meeting. appreciate the call uh well that gets to a question i actually had in here drew and i'd like to see what your thought is one person writes matt i want pope to be here forever so this isn't about uh his future but do you think a coach like todd golden or danny hurley would have worked here with their personalities i have an answer to that but what do you think drew hurley seems like another category by himself even way above golden even though golden as we saw has a lot i have a weird take we're trying the nice thing and it's not working i think college basketball needs kentucky to be a bit of a villain you know no people didn't like cow a lot of people didn't like rick yeah we love the romanticism with pope and all that it's not really working right now if it doesn't work out you know hurley's a stretch but i do think we need someone that kind of has a little jerk to and we kind of have to be the bad boys. Ryan? I don't care if he's a jerk. I don't care if he's Donald Trump. I don't care if he beats up his little sister. I want my coach to win. You don't mean that. Come on. I don't mean that. Don't just say stuff to say it. Do you genuinely think it would work? Yes, because we just want somebody to come in and win. Don't care what kind of person you are sometimes. Just come in and win. I think that's easy to say when you're not. like that's easy to say in the abstract but this job is so highlighted so do i think danny hurley if he was here the fans would take up for his behavior and and support him yes shannon i do yeah yeah but i think if todd golden had gone through what he had gone through here it a much bigger national story No doubt about it And I think things like that would be harder Perfect example is Bruce Pearl. So Bruce Pearl makes strong political statements all the time. Strong. And at Auburn, people don't really pay attention. But, Shannon, if he was at Kentucky, they would. Yeah. And that would be a different kind of thing. It's a pressure cooker type of job where everybody pays attention. That's exactly right. And you have to be, I feel like, battle-tested to be able to sit in that chair. Danny Hurley has made UConn to where now he gets that kind of scrutiny at UConn. But Todd Golden, that whole situation, regardless of what the actual fact, if that had happened here, it's a different level of a national story, Drew. It just is. and so i think that part is something that people don't realize whatever happens it happens times 50 when you're at duke kentucky north carolina or kansas yeah i agree and i think hurley would be a bit much and anyone that's committed an actual crime that's tough to defend but the golden thing he was cleared i haven't seen anything other than that i mean it's not a good look and it would be bigger here but don't you think if it was here there would have been reporters I mean, remember, that was a student newspaper that investigated it. If it was here, ESPN's going live. I know, but I'm just – I feel like I'm defending goal. I mean, I haven't seen any evidence. Like, Florida cleared him. It would have been huge. But, I mean, Rick Pitino is coaching right now. We know his past. I mean, there are a lot of coaches that have done some weird stuff. So, I'm just – I'm not going to expect an angel. I think there's a line. It's important to remember that it's a different thing here. Now, do I think at this point people would accept a lot? Yes, I do. But it would be interesting. My man, Hunter Green for the Reds, out 14 to 16 weeks to start the season. So I'm already giving up. Can I sell your season tickets? He apparently has, quote, bone chips and loose bodies in his arm. Loose bodies? What's loose bodies? I've never heard that phrase. Loose bodies? That sounds serious. Little loose pieces of bone? I guess, but the word bodies is a little... It's just not a typo. It says loose, but green has bone chips and loose bodies. Never heard that. Fragments of bone or cartilage is what it is. Little pieces of bone. Yep. Huh. Well, great. I just convinced myself 100 wins. Better take about 20 off. They do have a deep pitching staff, but still, that's a big loss. I just gave Ryan some good Reds news. WKYT just said they're airing 10 Reds games on KYT. That's a big deal. Every Monday night all season, they're going to air the Reds games. Or when they play at home on Monday night, they'll be on WKYT. So that's good. I used to love Monday night baseball, so I don't care if it is the Reds. I would sit and watch it. And opening day. I've found, as a casual, I've had trouble finding Reds games forever, so it's nice to know at least some of them I can find. Yeah. I hate that about Hunter Green. I like Hunter Green. 859-280-2287. The girls' Sweet 16 starts tomorrow in Rupp Arena. Who's in it? Do we know? Well, the Henderson Colonels are in it. Who's the favorite? The one team wins every year, right? Doesn't Anderson County or whatever or Sacred Heart? Don't they win? Sacred Heart. They've had that Johnson girl for the last couple years. So let's go through here. You've got opening game tomorrow at 11 a.m. Henderson County versus Douglas. Then Calloway County, that's way out there, versus Assumption. I think Assumption's on Bardstown Road, isn't it? I believe it is close to you. Yeah, it's close to the Mexican restaurant I always eat at. I think I walked by it on the way. Pikeville plays Notre Dame. Well, that doesn't seem fair. No. Notre Dame went down to a high school? Notre Dame has to play Notre Dame? wow west jessamine plays duke uh where's notre dame northern kentucky it's the female school catholic school up in northern kentucky hmm okay i didn't even know that west jessamine plays taylor county go campbellsville simon kenton plays ashland lecher central plays who won between owensboro catholic and davis county catholic owensboro catholic look at you you're having the answer quickly uh ball franklin simpson plays bullet east let's go chargers yeah i thought they were in it i wasn't sure though and then north laurel plays george rogers clark and they've been good for many years in a row grc has so wait a minute no sacred heart no sacred heart no anderson county so we're all pulling for bullet east right collectively we're pulling for my i'm calling for pike boy if they have to play notre dame they're gonna lose notre dame's got nothing but studs uh all right who's the favorite do you know i would assume you know uh george grc's gotta be one of the favorites but i don't know who is considered the overall favorite okay well if you're if you are uh coming to the games come say hi at ks bar uh all weekend all weekend um be nice to have you out there it is should be George Rogers Clark, people tell me, is the favorite. Yeah. All right, there you go. Let's go to Grant. Go ahead, Grant. Hey, Matt, how are you doing this morning? Doing good. I just got two quick points. My first one's a football one. I just want to say about Will's son, not really a personality thing, but just on the field stuff, he kind of gives me Todd Golden vibes kind of into Kentucky just because he's bringing such young, energy to the game and he's so energetic and you can tell he's not scared and he's smart and he knows what he's doing and I think he can bring Kentucky football to high as he's never been to and I'm really excited about it he just what he's done what Todd Golden's done at Florida I feel like he can do for Kentucky football I love that he said over and over yesterday don't be scared you have to take risk I agree with that at this job especially I don't think I think you have to take risk. You have to swing for the fences and maybe you strike out, but at Kentucky, I don't think you have a choice. I think you have to, this is not a place to be conservative. I know, you know, Mark Stoops won quite a bit kind of playing like that, but if you really want to hit another level, you got it. You got to take a swing. And I love that he said a couple of times in the interview, you cannot be afraid to fail. When I say that to people all the time, the biggest difference between people who really succeed and those sometimes that don't is don't be afraid to fail, and I loved hearing him say that. Yeah, and then my second thing is I know we don't have many recruits next year, but if we go into the portal, have you heard about, there's a guy from High Point called Chase Johnston. I believe they're going to make the tournament, and he's made 64 threes, I think, out of 122. That is an amazing stat. He has made, what is it, 64 out of what? I think it's 132, so it's just under 50%. So he's made, Drew, 64 out of 132 threes, but he's not made a two all year. 0 for 4 on twos. 0 for 4 on twos, 64 from 132 on threes. That is one of the most amazing stats I've ever seen for a player. I saw that yesterday. That's crazy. please put high point and arkansas together i need it so bad i need it i need the jack gulky yes it will it will be therapeutic if he can do that to arkansas for me because they could beat them right high points i mean he could gokey him that is he is gokey he's the second coming of gokey make one two ever even just by luck you figured to get a layup at some point during a game or in the course of a season he only shot four yeah how do you play that much basketball and not actually 132 threes and only four twos he's probably crazy what's he's probably a little guy and probably can't get either i don't know what size is he grant he's 6'3 i can look real quick 6'3 okay so he's little all right he plays about 15 minutes a game and hasn't accidentally taken a layup more than four times that's amazing i appreciate the call high points at school i think we've talked about on here where you get free ice cream every day that's right every day or every game every day they have an ice cream truck on campus on campus wow and you can just get free ice cream and then i think it also um it's a it's a place where you learn like hospitality and once a week they so they have a steakhouse on campus that students work and once a week or Maybe it's once a month. I'm not sure. But so often, students get a free steak dinner at the steakhouse. What a place. Wow. Also, Cameron Fletcher is his teammate. No, he's not. Yeah. Cameron Fletcher plays at High Point. Yep. That's another reason I need that Arkansas game. Does he get to play? Yeah. It might even be their leading scorer. Cameron Fletcher, he was on the COVID team. Yep. And so was Devin Askew. So two guys from that COVID team are still playing college basketball. He had 17 in the Big South Championship and 19 rebounds. Didn't Cameron Fletcher date like Angel Reese? Yes, and left Kentucky mid-year. He has a lot going on in his college career. Left in the middle of a game that one time. Got off the bench. Oh, that's right. He did leave in the middle of a game. Yeah. And he gets a steak dinner, Shannon. Yeah, I'd just show up for the steak dinner. Just give me that and ice cream. i'll be happy i think the restaurant that they do where they have the state dinner is good and like just the people that live in that town go to it to eat especially if it's free there's a restaurant on campus i go to that's all student run you have to make a reservation here and can here at lexington what's it called the lemon tree cafe and it's all run by students like part of their class where is it uh i'd get the building wrong it's not far from memorial hall so it's in a just in a building. Yeah, it's like their class. I go for lunch occasionally, but you have to have a reservation and it's like their class. Hmm. I love that idea. It's pretty neat. Check it out. It's called Lemon Tree Cafe. Yep. Don't take my reservation, though. All right. See, you learn things on this show. You're going to get booked like all weekend now. It's good stuff. All right. You put on Biggie when you feel uncomfortable? Because I want to get confident. This is DJ Hester Prince's Music is Therapy, a new podcast from me, a DJ and licensed therapist that asks one simple question. Who do you want to be? And what's the song that can take you there? Music changes what you feel. And what you feel changes what you do, right? That moment where a song shifts something inside you, that's where transformation starts. This year, I'm talking to experts across every area of life, like personal finance icon Gene Chatzky, New York Times journalist David Gellis, relationship legend Dan Savage, human connection teacher Mark Groves, and the man who shaped my ear more than anyone, Questlove. They'll bring the strategies. I'll pair them with the right records and will teach you how to use the music to make change stick. This isn't just a podcast. It's unconventional therapy for your entire year. Listen to DJ Hester-Krin's Music is Therapy on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I really like this song. Great song. Yeah, Mr. Brightside. Do you play this one? We do, yeah. How'd your thing go at Tin Roof? I was going to go, but then we missed you. The show went late. It was good. It was packed, but then Kentucky lost, and I think that kind of killed the vibe for the night. A lot of people went home, but we'll be playing post-game on Thursday. at 10 roof on Broadway. Yeah, so Thursday's show is 10 roof. It'll be 9 to 11 Eastern, so 8 to 10 Central, and then Shannon will play later that day. Yeah. Hopefully we'll be celebrating a win. What time are you playing Thursday again? I think right after the game, so like 1.30 Central time to 5. Okay, cool. So right after the game, so people can hopefully we'll be celebrating a win. Yes. 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt, I've seen two brackets that have us playing nc state in the tournament would we beat them what do you think the would we beat them i'm not good at that game you could say any team in college basketball same but you got to play somebody i don't know much about nc state i don't know how they've done this year or anything yeah i don't either it's will wait they lost a lot in this to end the year it's will wait they've lost six out of seven uh steven a smith announces he will not run for president. Wow. Did anybody think he was actually going to? No. I mean, you know the only person that thought it was Myron Metcalf? Because he would send me every update about it. And I was like, you know he's not going to run. Myron actually thought he might run? I think he did. But he's announced that, and his reasoning for not wanting to run is, I make too much money. Well, America thanks him. Yeah, really. I mean, honestly, if that's why you're not running, then really, should you have considered it anyway? It's just too much money. I make too much money. I don't care about the country. Let's give me a step down in my pay. Yeah. Yeah. Well, no comment. Another person writes, Matt, if we don't win the SEC tournament, who will? Florida. Florida's obviously the favorite. I will say I saw on DraftKings you could get Arkansas, Drew, for plus 850. That feels high, doesn't it? Especially with a guy like Acuff. You could get Alabama for plus 600, Arkansas for plus 850. One of those two teams is going to be in the finals. Yes. So why not, Drew, wouldn't you take both of them and then take your chances? Yeah, with Acuff, I think those are good odds. their Carter Knox injury, I think, might have hurt the ceiling for Arkansas in the postseason because they were already thin. But Akoff just won. Was he out for the year? I don't know if they officially called it the year, but it was one of those in-depth. He hasn't played in forever. Yeah, he's been out. He had surgery, if I'm not mistaken. So I think that's going to be what ultimately holds them back. But, heck, Akoff could go win it all by himself. Yeah. So the phone lines, just so people know, the phone lines have broken to where when you call, most of the lines hang up. Yeah, we're down to like one line. We're down to one line that works. And guess who's on it. And guess who is the one person who's been able to stay on. I hope it's Bob and Jamestown. Bob and Jamestown. Yes. Okay, Matt. Assuming that Kansas goes all the way. What? Kevin Grevy said when UK played UCLA in 75, when John Wooden came out and made his retirement announcement before the game, that the refs went UCLA's way, and that's like the Kansas. So is Bill Self going to do that if they go all the way in Indianapolis? I have no idea. I was too young to see the 75 game. It has certainly taken on the lore, Ryan, that we lost because John Wooden said he was not going to coach anymore and the refs cheated us. Now, I know that people say the refs cheated us. There are people who think the refs cheated us Saturday even though we were losing the entire game to Florida. Do you think the refs cheated us in 1975? Because that is the common narrative about that game. I know Kentucky fans like to say that, but there was no way the UCLA players were going to let John Wooden lose on his last game, the championship game. They just kind of wheeled their way to a win. So I don't think the referees affected the call, but there'll be some old-timers that'll tell you that they did. Well, there are people that get angry at John Wooden, Drew, like he shouldn't have said he was going to retire. That he almost, it was not fair of him to say that he was going to retire because the players and the refs then changed the way it went. But I always think people have strong opinions about that game. Yeah, and I think you know it. They think Wooden should have waited. Like, do us a favor. Don't tell them now. But I've always took the interpretation is what Ryan said, that it fueled UCLA more than it was the refs, and they just couldn't lose knowing it could be Wooden's last game. It was just unfortunate timing for Kentucky that he was able to give them that message before he went out. I appreciate the call, Bob. If you were to rank games Kentucky got cheated by the refs the most, I have a distinct number one. I think the game at Texas A&M is number one. The Isaac Humphreys game? The Isaac Humphreys game. Because it was over. And then they called that technical, which was unnecessary. Like, it wasn't even a controversial call. We had gotten the game-winning rebound. The game was over. And then they called that, and we lost. They did not need to call that. So, to me, that's number one. And then number two is North Carolina 2017. But I will grant you it's because of controversial calls. But I think the only game that I can think of that we got outlandishly cheated was Texas A&M. Do you all have one? Well, a lot of fans will tell you this Auburn game just a few weeks ago. Would you put that on the list? I was too mad at them for blowing the lead and Brandon Garrison having cinder blocks for shoes than I was the ref. but I understand the argument because if they don't call it, Kentucky probably wins that game. What about, was it the Arkansas goaltending game? They changed the rule after the season? You're talking about the LSU gets the put-back dunk? Is that what you're talking about? No, LSU had a tip-in in Rupp Arena. Is that the one that changed the rule? Arkansas had the tip-in dunk in Fayetteville. That also sucked. It was the LSU game where they changed the rule after the season. Because he put his – I don't remember the specifics of that. There was a goaltending, and I don't think they could review it or something. He tipped it in, and it was maybe questionable. Well, I wouldn't use the phrase cheated, but the 2015 Wisconsin shot clock violation. Yeah. I mean, that's frustrating. Well, that's one where there's a screenshot where he's holding the ball, and the clock says zero. I mean, that one's hard to argue defensively. But the game wasn't over. There was still like a minute and something left in that game. Yeah, and Cal took the air out of the ball. Yeah. Yeah, I think, I mean, do you all disagree with me on the A&M one? To me, the A&M one is the one that I just look at and go, game's over and you just call a technical for no reason. You're right, though. Some older fans, though, will swear up and down the 95 title was stolen from Kentucky because of the referees. Yeah. See, I can't think of another one where, well, I will tell you one that people would have said is if we hadn't hung on and beat Arkansas this year. you know when Chow started just calling all those technicals yeah flip the script for a few minutes I definitely could have been I mean it was earlier in the game but that would have been one that that I think people would have uh would have thought that all right so the game tomorrow folks is at 12 30 okay weird time I think those games used to be at one they've been moved up to 12 30 KSR will start at 9 so the pre-show and KSR are merging tomorrow so a lot of our affiliates out there if your affiliate you listen to doesn't take the pre-show then you'll have to listen online first of all Shannon they should take the pre-show everybody should be taking the pre-show so you should demand your affiliate to take the pre-show but if they do not it will be online and we will then go up to 11 o'clock stop and then the official pregame show will start then. Everybody feels good about the game against LSU tomorrow? If we can't beat the worst team in the SEC, then yeah. See, I don't think they are the worst team, though. I think it was a three-way tie. I think they're the best of those three teams. They're still the bottom of the SEC, and you're Kentucky. And it's the SEC tournament in Nashville when you get all the fans there. Just win the game. By the way, South Carolina has just announced they're bringing back Lamont Paris as their coach, by the way. Even though they've been 6-30 in conference the last two years. Good for us. He's got potential. Yeah. We'll see you later. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio. Hi, I'm Danielle Robay, host of Bookmarked, the podcast by Reese's Book Club.
