Summary

Marcus from Star 101.3 San Francisco hosts a Second Date Update segment where he calls a woman named Brittany who ghosted her date with Adam after dinner. During the call, Brittany reveals red flags from the date including Adam taking an extended phone call referring to the caller as 'babe,' calling servers 'mama,' and having a contact with heart emojis on his phone, leading her to decline a second date.

Insights
  • Red flags in dating behavior—taking lengthy personal calls during dates, using familiar terms with service staff, and maintaining ambiguous contacts—can immediately disqualify potential partners regardless of initial chemistry
  • Communication patterns and phone etiquette during first dates significantly impact dating outcomes and partner perception of trustworthiness
  • Behavioral inconsistencies (explaining away suspicious actions) can reinforce rather than resolve dating concerns, especially when explanations seem defensive or dismissive
  • Radio-based relationship mediation creates accountability and provides real-time feedback that helps daters understand their impact on potential partners
Trends
Radio-based dating intervention content as entertainment and relationship coaching hybrid formatGhosting as normalized dating behavior requiring third-party mediation to understand root causesPhone usage and digital communication patterns as primary dating red flags for Gen Z and millennial datersCasual familiarity language ('mama,' 'babe') as potentially off-putting rather than charming in dating contexts

This is literally you go on a first date and then you get ghosted. We've been doing it for almost a decade. Just really trying to bring people together. Once you get ghosted, you call us and then we call your date and try to figure out with you on the phone what might have happened. They won't be able to hear you because you'll be muted, but you'll be able to hear everything. So let's bring Adam on. Adam, good morning. Hey, good morning. Hey, dude. So I want to talk about Brittany and I want to talk about your date. And I understand you guys met online, but like according to your DM, she's ghosted. So let's try to figure this out. What did you guys do on your date? We just had some dinner, got some Italian food and same material. Okay. And then how did that go? It went really well. We had like a lot of shared interests, you know? Okay. We both hikers and we talked about movies and stuff. It was super easy to get to know her. Okay. And you've reached out a couple times? Yeah. Trying not to be too thirsty about it, but yeah. I only had one guy a few days ago that he goes, yeah, a lot. So. All right. Well, let's like I said, let's see if we can get her on the phone. You ready to give her a call, see what's going on? Yeah. All right. I'm curious to know. Go ahead and mute your phone. Here we go. Hello. Hi, may I speak to Brittany, please? Yes, that's Brittany. Hi, Brittany. My name is Marcus. I work on Star one on one three, which is a radio station in San Francisco. I don't suppose you listen to my show. I don't know. Okay. We're doing a segment right now. I would love to, if you don't mind, have you on the air. It's called second date update and I got floated your phone number from a guy who just took you on a date who is saying that you ghosted. He would love to take you out again. So would you mind talking about your date you had with Adam? I mean, yeah, I guess. Thank you. So how did it go for you? Cause like I said, he's feeling like you ghosted, but I'm just trying to figure out, did he do something wrong? I mean, everything seemed like it was fine initially, but, you know, after a while, he ended up taking a 10 minute phone call and it wasn't quick. It was quite extensive. And the whole time he was referring to them as babe. Do you mean like at the table? Yes. So when I asked him who that was, he said it was his cat sitter. And later in the night, his phone lit up again and it was a contact with two heart emojis. So I'm not sure what comes, but I know it's too hard. emojis means, yeah, so he kept calling the server mama and referred to himself as a heartbreaker more than once. So I don't know what that was felt. So he had his phone on the table like face up. Yeah. Okay. All right. Well, here's the thing about this is he's actually, I've got him listening. We're trying to use this as like a teachable moment. Adam, this is, this is a lot. Who was on the phone first of all? It was, it was my neighbor feeding my cat. I call a lot of women mama and, you know, things like that because they, they like it and it's disarming and it's, uh, it doesn't feel like I'm, I'm telling them, you know, ordering them what to do. I'm just saying that. It's a fun way. Okay. And you know, joke around with my friends and stuff. It's, you know, it's a familial thing. So you were kidding. Yeah. In a way, but I do that with everyone, you know, I don't know. It just all feels really shady to me and I'm just not really comfortable with that situation. So like no second date then? Yeah. I think I'm in a path. All right. Hang on. Thank you for picking up. Appreciate it. All right. Uh, that's not happening. Obviously. Second date update.
