•Feb 27, 2026about 2 months agoSummary
This episode features lightning round caller segments covering the Boston Celtics' chemistry concerns, NFL draft prospects, the USA Men's Hockey Olympic gold medal victory, and criticism of Canadian media's soft response to their Olympic loss. The hosts also discuss the ABS (automated ball-strike) system in baseball, the fading Boston accent, and various sports controversies including Bruins roster decisions.
Insights
- Star NBA players like Tatum and Brown are products of individualistic AAU culture that prioritizes personal branding over team success, requiring conscious effort to overcome
- Automated officiating systems eliminate human personality and entertainment value from sports while solving legitimate fairness issues—a tradeoff worth examining
- Regional sports media cultures vary dramatically; Canadian hockey media avoids accountability for Team Canada's poor three-on-three strategy while Toronto media remains adversarial
- Olympic success in niche sports like hockey doesn't convert casual viewers into regular fans—growth requires multi-generational household adoption, not viral moments
- Star players receiving special treatment (empty net situations, penalty kill exemptions) for stat-padding undermines competitive integrity and team-first culture

We have a show to do today. The whole new acronym thing drives me effing penance. Can we call him by his name? Shelter and Man. On 98.5 The Sports Hub. Let's go. To come back to the phones, Jimmy with a lightning round here on Agenda Free Friday. The lightning round brought to you by Blue Sky Restoration Contractors. Indeed, if your home or business has experienced property damage from all these blizzards and snow, like fallen trees, roof leaks, ice dams, or burst pipes, our guys at Blue Sky are ready to respond 24-7. So visit GoBlueSky.com. No E-B-L-U-S-K-Y. GoBlueSky.com. Blue Sky Restoration, restoring your property and your life for a brighter tomorrow. Carl in New Jersey, what do you got on the Celtics, Carl? Hey, so Tatum and Brown are both obviously very obsessed and insecure about how they stand amongst the league's best players. so do you think Kaden's secretly jealous of all the success Jalen Brown is having and that a lot of people might consider Jalen to be the best player on the team also do you think they can win it all if they stay 100 healthy this year yes they can win it all and the first thing I don't think they're obsessed I think that they are human and have been brought up in a basketball culture that I'm sorry is just kind of rotten between the AAU thing and the you know each player is an individual corporation and it is individual over team in a lot of cases and that's unfortunately what the sport has become in this country so they have a little bit of that going however it's not going to prevent them from working together to be as good as they can be as a team that's what i think because i haven't seen that happen yet and we've monitored it we've talked about it can they coexist are they rooting for each other are they supportive of each other and When it looks like they're not, we call out and we talk about it. But I think at the end of the day, generally speaking, despite these other forces, they are hardworking, dedicated guys that want to win. And at the end of the day, that's what they're going to do or try to do anyway. That's what I think. So, no, I agree that they're professional. I also think that they're human. And look, I mean, similar to what you're saying, but do I think it can, you know, I don't want to use the word derail. Do I think it's an obstacle in the short term? Yeah. and they have to figure it out. It's something they have to work through, no doubt about it. And I'll tell you, I think a lot of it falls on Tatum because if he's expecting to just come back in and take over, I don't think that that's, to me, I don't think that's a realistic point of view. I agree. It's more incumbent on him. It's going to take more from him than the other way around. Yeah, he's going to have to ramp up and he's into it. You got to figure it out. Lightning Round brought to you by Blue Sky Restoration Contractors. Stephen Charlestown on Maz's tears yesterday. Who needs a ring? Go ahead, Steve. Yeah, speaking of Maz's tears, I heard you guys mention Joe Burrow's name. And if the Bengals suck and keep flaming out, he's probably going to want to get out of there. He's pretty depressed. And I think there's one obvious team he's going to end up with, a team who will need a quarterback and who's no stranger to trading draft picks, Sean McVay and the L.A. Rams. What do you think? The Rams eventually are going to end up with Joe Burrow or Josh Allen. Eventually. I mean, the Rams would be a great spot. Post Stafford. Oh, awesome. Pairing McVay with him, that would be ridiculous. Incredible. Steve and Rozzy on the NFL Combine. Go ahead, Steve. So I think there's some interesting big-picture topics going on in the Combine as it relates to the Patriots. One is it seems Mike Vrabel generally likes his edge rushers, and everybody agrees the Patriots need an edge rusher in this draft. It seems Vrabel likes him around that 250, 260 range, but there was a lot of guys to weigh in measurement-wise that have come in undersized, some of them even historically small. Would you guys take one of the smaller pass rushers who's probably falling down the board if they are a legit pass rusher. Some of them tested well athletically. Some of them didn't. But just talking big picture. Yes, and I think Vrabel would too. Me too. I don't think Vrabel is stuck in the Bill Belichick. Everyone's got a two-gap and everyone's got to hold up their blocks. I think Vrabel's a little more flexible than that. So if the biggest impact player is undersized, he'll figure out how to use them and take them, yeah. And the way he answered that question the other day made it sound like getting to the quarterback is the most important thing. So if you've got a guy who is undersized but can consistently get to the quarterback, you'd take it. I mean, was Vaughn Miller a great run player? Yeah, I couldn't even tell you. No, me neither. He was undersized and fast, at least a little undersized. Belichick romanticized the fact that Lawrence Taylor could stop the run. And so he wanted every one of his guys, I don't care if you're a pass rusher, you still have to hold the edge. yourself to set the edge blah blah blah so i mean good luck especially in this day and age finding 207 willie mcginnis like those guys play tight end now right that's right you know what i mean like you're not going to find those uh freaks of nature that are that big and that explosive and that strong enough to hold up the you know rabel himself like it's just the defenses are different are different now and i would think that a rabel is going to evolve with it and the way he answered that question the other day too, Mike. Sorry, but he said most of the turnovers come from the quarterback position. So you got to get to the quarterback. They didn't get to the quarterback enough. The lightning round is brought to you by Blue Sky Restoration Contractor Sean and Salem. You know, the league has set it up for Tatum to come back with all the hype and a soft landing before the season even started, right? The dock is one thing, but the schedule makers, they've laid out the red carpet. They're the only team by far that doesn't play back-to-back games for the next 30 days and they have just one road trip that lasts more than one day he can stay home and get healthy and I think if Tatum wants to be the face of the league it's all laid out for him and he needs to embrace it instead of being afraid to fail uh yeah I would say that too I think he would look really good I think it would enhance his legacy if he agreed to come off the bench if he agreed to minutes restrictions if he was clearly deferential on the floor. I think that would make him look good. Do you think he has that in him? Nope. I don't know. No star in the NBA has that in him. It's too bad. I didn't realize until Jimmy said it yesterday. He's never come off the bench in his career. 585 for 585 in the regular season and every playoff game was like 121 you said? I mean that's unusual for a guy who's a rookie to start. There was an issue in the beginning because Jalen Brown was going into his sophomore year and here comes Jason Tatum, number three pick, right in the starting lineup i remember that vaguely we've got james in the truck on abs yes james i remember well hey uh i just wanted to say uh you had a good take there as a ball player growing up i don't understand where this flip-flop came from because we were taught that you don't argue balls and strikes you don't argue you know with the umpire if the call is a call you go and fix it on the field later on in the game secondly i love your takes right lately on jalen brown you're fine someone's finally giving him his flowers here because that man's taken a lot over the years and i think if jason comes back and like you guys just said he puts his ego to the side kind of slides in easily it could be a huge run let's see if tatum can do it david and lull on the abs system go ahead please yeah hey guys the greatest thing about the abs system is now i no longer have to hear these dumb ass announcers covering for these on the blue call saying well it looks like it's a high strike zone he's calling the corners tonight there's no more of that BS. A strike is a strike, and it's just going to be great to see that finally come true. I disagree. Human beings are imperfect and different. Some umpires have a high strike zone. Some have a low strike zone. Some give you the outside corner. Some give you the inside, and it changes game to game. Do you know who Angel Hernandez is? Joe West, CB Buckner. Why do we know these names? Because they suck. Thank you. And they're kind of dicks on top of it. This will prevent that type of behavior. Umpires, officials, we should not know their names. We know their names because they're terrible at it, and then they compound it by being complete a-holes. Oh, you didn't like the call? I'll throw you out because I'm the man in charge. I'm in charge. This will help prevent that. This is why I'm pro-ABS. Shame them into doing their jobs correctly. And they remain nameless, faceless people. So it's just one less, I don't know, human nuance in our lives. everything's computerized and everything is in columns and there's no difference between this or that because everything is ones and twos and in baseball you have good ums bad ums high strike zones low strike zones you got guys who are a-holes i mean joe west was entertaining he was an a-hole yep but he was entertaining and it was something to get mad about or whatnot and so there was human emotions on all sorts so we're just we're going to wipe all that out and just put it all on the computer, all on a spreadsheet. I don't need it. I'm okay with the fact that some umpires suck and some umpires are a-holes and some have a high strike zone. I'm okay with all of it. That never bothered me about the game. The horses kind of left the barn on that one, don't you think? I mean, I'm not telling, because again, look, if this thing dies, I don't care. And listen, I get aggravated by bad calls or bad umps too if it's my team and like, give me the ball. But I don't need them. But if you're in the stands, you wouldn't enjoy that quick trial. That was a terrible call. Tap, tap, tap. Got to get up there, take off my umpire mask, look up at the screen like everyone else. Ah, you got it wrong, you a-hole. Loser. Like, that's good fun. No, there's something to me. Yeah. No, there's something there. I agree. We'll see if that makes up for the other thing. A jury of 30,000. Listen, I grew up without this, too. I don't need it either. The replay, I miss the umpire arguments more than I care about them getting a touch play right at second base on a stolen base because a guy lifted his foot up by the length of a credit card you know what i mean like i i i'm okay with them missing a call every now and then and what's been totally eliminated is these amazing entertaining knockdown drag out arguments between managers and umpires and those have been gone for a while unfortunately i used to like those too right so this is one more thing that's going to take that stuff away one of the best parts of tennis was the bad boys and the umpire arguments and all of this totally gone completely it's been completely wiped out there are no bad boys in tennis every now and then the tennis players will get snippy with each other about something but it's just sort of quick and bitchy and snippy and it is nothing there it's just you've taken out this whole layer of humanity out of the thing and so anything that just continues Use that slow creep I'm against, but I'm fighting a losing battle. It's all going to be baseball. It's going to be like tennis here, and there's going to be no personality anymore. It already is. Do you think there's any personality in the game? Mike in New Hampshire on the lightning round brought to you by Blue Sky Restoration Contractors. Go ahead, Mike. Hey, guys. So this is an article I read in The Globe about three weeks ago something like that And it was about the fading Boston accent And the reason I bring it up here is because Mike and Jim especially Jim was quoted in the article. And the reason is that they said that the accent is fading and the only place it's really sticking is sports talk radio. And Jim, you had said, even though, like I've been born and raised here, I tried desperately not to sound like that. So I thought, Jim, you might be willing to comment on that. Thanks, guys. Yeah, I took a voice and articulation class in college because I didn't want to sound like, yeah, effing this and that. Is that how you sounded as a teenager? Oh, God, yeah. When my dad passed, I unearthed all these videos from, like, the late 90s and before I went to college. And it is just brutal on the ears. Awful. Yeah, how about, are we having a party here? Can I hear it? Can you bring something in? I'll bring some of it in, yeah. Oh, God, I'd love to hear it. Oh, it's horrendous. Did you ever have it, Maz? Oh, definitely. Definitely, 100%. When I got to college, like, I walked in a place and go, yeah, what are you guys up to, huh? And a guy looked at me and said, huh? Because every Bostonian, apparently one of the underrated things, ends a sentence with saying, huh? Huh? Yeah. Yeah. You were going to the bar, huh? exactly so can i tie this into the conversation he's pretty good huh we're worse off for it that there's no no one sounds different yeah you know and i mine still slips out every now and then i've never heard it maz ever slip out once really really oh it slips out every now and then it's only when you're with the bar only when you're trying you ever sound like that stew yeah i used to younger because my dad had a south boston accent i'd add r's to different words so i'd say idea. Yeah, it was hard for me to talk like that. Yeah, it just wasn't for me. If I was going to get into this business, and that time, in the late 90s, I said, I don't want to sound like a townie. There is a charm to it, and it is being lost. You know, that's what that article was about. It's not around as much as it used to be. For every Tom and Quincy, who's my favorite caller, who is the epitome. What did he say the other day? There was one certain thing. Oh, Isaiah kind of falafel. You know, for every one of those, everyone else just sounds the same now. There's no nuance. No personality. vernacular. That Boston nuance is going away, which kind of sucks. The other day I was walking into a furniture store with an older woman or husband and the daughter walks up and says, hurry up, we gotta get in there! I started wetting my pants at the door. I held it open before I said, don't worry, I got you. You're okay. Yeah, just hurry up. Thus concludes the lightning round brought to you by Blue Sky Restoration. Visit gobluesky.com No E. Coming back to fallout from the Olympics and a little more hockey talk. And your calls don't go anywhere. Hurry up. Hey, it's Owen. Shaking things up a bit. No formal intro. Let's see what Carlo from Auburn has to say. The biggest thing that I received out of this Awaken 180 program was that I was able to get a best friend. And when I say that, I mean the person that I look to in the mirror every morning. I would walk by the mirror and not look. Now, the Awaken 180 program has given me the ability to look in the mirror, smile, and actually enjoy and appreciate the person I am. I went from, you know, 301 down to 213. I've lost 84 pounds with Awaken 180. 84 pounds of Carlo did it in just under four months. And those results, buddy, are the results you'll get with Awaken 180. Do what Carlo did, what I did, Greg Bedard, Dr. Laura Carman, and everybody else that's done it. Get back to liking the person you see in the mirror and choose Awaken 180 Weight Loss online at awaken180weightloss.com. Oh, my God. For Mike Felger, it's all about whining. Winning. Yeah, I mean winning. Maybe he gives you a wise-ass answer that you might, oh, I don't know, use. No, maybe it is about whining. I'm glad I got that off my chest. Felger and Maz. Off the board, Charlie McAvoy. Couldn't handle the puck. McDavid back on the ice for Canada United States Here's McDavid moving in on Jack Hughes, trying to slow him down, puck lines up behind the net And it's Wierenski, now Jack Hughes puts it around the car, United States with numbers Walk across it comes, Jack Hughes wins it! The golden goal for the United States! for the first time since the 1980 miracle the united states takes the ball five days later you still get tingles when you see it oh sure yeah yeah it was awesome and that's a you know the one in the uh quarterfinals i thought was even good when he scored uh when uh his brother scored like those goals those decisive overtime goals are you know unreal but that moment there I still get it I still get the the feelers whenever I see it sure hasn't dissipated I think it's still sort of resonating around the around the league the moments there's the guys come back and have their moments I think it's cool just playing that goal over and over again it does it for me pretty much every time Murray you agree with that yeah no I even like here I mean how many times have you heard free bird in your life but getting you know that goal that course that's their goal song i still like yeah f yeah like it's yeah that's i don't think that's gonna go away it was one of the great sporting events i've watched in ages and one of the great moments for sure so i i will say that it has jazzed me for hockey it has me pissed off that youtube tv that i can't get the nhl network it's it's not part of the package no with youtube no that's crazy i mean i can't get the nhl network unless i i gotta go to fooboo or something i don't know i'm not i'm done i'm done with subscriptions and like i'm not getting anything else i'm not gonna pay for anything else just get the nhl network but i want to watch the nhl network i want to watch the highlight show i want to watch whatever they call their you know nightly recap show and uh what the hell is it part of i know you it's fubu fubu direct tv stream direct tv stream has it 135 bucks a month okay direct tv stream record everything fubu or like you know your xfinity probably like premium packages or whatever everything's such a griff it's such a so such so annoying so annoying so annoying but i've put on the neutral site games which i almost never do i even figured out how to do that it's part of my fubu i guess i get hockey games or espn plus i don't i can't remember exactly how i did it but i did it uh so i'd like it's jazzed me for hockey it really has wet the whistle how about you has it do you just wet the whistle of casual fans you think it's done that thing no no me neither and i think every time that something like that happens in the hockey world says this will bring people to the game and this will grow the game and this will draw the you know i i maybe used to think that way uh long long ago was i disabused of that notion let me just tell you hockey people hockey krishnas it's not gonna it's not gonna it's not gonna do anything it's it's it's never going to do anything. It's not, you're going to, you either grow up in a hockey household or for some reason or another, you play hockey as a kid and your family and the house is into hockey. Like mine was for God knows what reason, for no good reason whatsoever, other than maybe my father, Rocky liked the fights. And we liked going down to old Chicago stadium and seeing Blackhawk games where there were fights on the ice and fights in the stands. And it was like a scene. And he just, my father, a big lumbering Jewish fellow from Milwaukee who never put on a pair of skates in his life, just liked hockey. And so I played as a kid and I was a youth hockey player. And so we're a hockey, so we're, I'm a hockey fan. And that's what, that's the only way you're, that's pretty much the only place they're going to come from. You're not going to get people who aren't into hockey into hockey because Jack Hughes scored that goal. So just the hockey people need to drop it and stop trying to think or trying to be something you're not. You're a niche sport, and you're either a hockey household or you're not, and that's just the way it is. Yeah, I mean, I grew up in a hockey household. I've always cared about it. It might not be apples to apples, but this is how I feel about soccer. World Cup comes around. I love it. I mean, the women's U.S. team is way better than the men have ever been. I love World Cup soccer. Am I ever going to really watch the MLS or get up early for a Premier League game? No, I'm not doing that. My father wouldn't know the difference between a hockey puck and a hamburger. Seriously. not if it hit him in the face so we weren't a hockey household i became one older i are a fan older the bruins in the 80s and a lot of my friends were hardcore fans but uh it was not a hockey household growing up but i'm just you know you either come from a house that had it or you didn't and it's hard to like sort of convert it's either in your blood or you're not it's just the way it is and so stop trying it's not going to work and especially they didn't even really try in this one, this is what I'm trying to, it was my frustration, is that the NHL, when they agreed to come back to the Olympics, should have negotiated that our gold medal game is not going to be at 8, 10 a.m. Eastern time, 5 o'clock a.m. Pacific. If you're going to have us back and we're going to agree to come back, you're going to play it as late as humanly possible and give us at least a late afternoon game, which they easily could have done. They could have had a 9 p.m. start at Italy time and a 3 p.m. game here in the U.S. Sunday at 3 p.m. would have been a box office time slot. But even Saturday at 3 is better than 8 a.m. on a Sunday. But so I don't think that NBC featured hockey in this thing. I think NBC kind of buried it. Never mind with the start times. They buried it on the stupid streaming service. They didn't hardly do anything in terms of, as I've been saying all week between periods analysis or like coverage of it it was tj oshi sometime and then otherwise they just tossed it back to the guys doing the game in between the periods they put nothing into the broadcast they put nothing into the production they buried the games on the internet or at weird times and so nbc did nothing to feature this and they're lucky that the u.s had a compelling product at the end and it went the distance that it did and there was an overtime on late Sunday morning and you got a lot of eyeballs, but that's nothing NBC did. I love how NBC's bragging about their numbers with the Olympics. Like, you buried this thing, guys. You did not. You're so lazy that your between periods, your first period between periods analysis was Michael Ruzzioni talking about what Herbie told him 46 years ago. Dumb. So NBC did a bad job by NBC with the hockey. they did nothing to quote grow it but you not gonna grow it stop trying to grow it it good that it gone into like non markets Like that helped And so somehow Austin Matthews in Scottsdale Arizona plays hockey because he was a Coyotes fan. Like that's great. So I'm not, you know, keep doing that stuff. But, you know, you're just dreaming if you think that that's quote-unquote growing the game. It's not. But I do think for those of us who love the game, for me anyway, it jazzed me. It's like I've kind of got a little hockey thing going because of that Olympic tournament where I've been sort of half-tuned out so far this year. Well, the Bruins have been sort of in between. And I'm still amazed by how it's being treated up in Canada and how soft the Canadians have been, the fans and the media on that team. I mean, the John Cooper comment after the game There's an all-time great dick comments that I've heard in sports. On the overtime? You mean it ceases to be hockey when it's three on three, that comment? Go ahead, Jimmy. There's obviously a lot of risk management in overtime. How did you see the whole play that led to the goal? Overtime is overtime. You take four players off the ice. Now hockey is not hockey anymore. There's a reason. Dick. All-time dick loser comment. and if Mike Sullivan had said that after the U.S. played a totally ridiculous three-on-three, which is what Canada did. The way Canada played their three-on-three was ridiculous. And if Mike Sullivan had said that and the U.S. had given up odd man rush after odd man rush in the three-on-three because they were pinching up the ice and not bothering to cover their guys, we would destroy Mike Sullivan, destroy him. But no one in Canada is saying a word about that ridiculous approach that they had with just allowing Conor McDavid or having Conor McDavid go one on three twice in a row or Mitch Marner go one on three. He actually scored on one of them. But that was their approach. And the fact that Canada or no one up there in Canada is holding them accountable for it to me is just amazing, perplexing, disappointing. And I guess maybe is an insight into the true character up there. You just don't, you're just not tough enough up there to criticize a big defeat? Pusses. Seriously. I saw Bissonette in between periods of whatever game I was watching the other night. And you big Canada supporter and whatnot. He didn't have anything to say about Canada losing that game. Not one thing. Like, you puss. You're going to criticize. your team loses in a massive upset when they were much better, and you're not going to pick apart at all what you did wrong? How soft are you guys? They're kind people. They're soft. Or they're just not mature enough to take a look at their own team and how they played? Oh, it's been so disappointing. Give me a break. I'm trying to think of the Canadian media in general. Like, the only one that I've ever seen any edge with is Toronto. So the Toronto media gets on the Maple Leafs pretty good. None of you are going to get on Team Canada? Like, come on. They blew that thing. Go back and watch again how Connor McDavid and those guys played that three-on-three. It was so loose and irresponsible. No one's going to say it? Like a game in mid-November, like you said. They should have lost on their first shift. First shift, U.S. comes down. Quinn Hughes breaks free on a little give and go wide open. Biddington made the save the next three on three shift. McDavid and McCarr and those guys do the exact same thing. And then McCarr loses a key puck battle. I'm sorry. It was McKinnon. McKinnon loses the key puck battle to lose the gold medal and then says, well, you tell me who the better team was. And you up in Canada are all going to let them get away with that. Is anyone going to say anything? Pussies. Seriously, you guys. I thought you were tougher than that. I thought you had a little more something to you than that. So still a week later, I'm still buzzing from it. Loved it. It's tremendous. It was a great tournament. And I'll tell you, really, the medal round was outstanding. And watching some of the NHL games like Jake in Boston, quickly, Jake, what's your point? I'm the opposite of you because you basically had game seven of the Stanley Cup finals. Every shift, every touch of the puck matters. And you go from that to go through the motions, regular season hockey. It's a total buzzkill. okay so then don't watch uh i didn't feel that way last night no i didn't either i thought that game was had some playoff feel to it some of the games i've watched have been really soft the um is it it was tampa and toronto i want to say the first night back that i was watching tampa toronto and maybe it's just a toronto thing they are done they are cashed quit given up yeah they're falling all over themselves i mean there's clips online of them they look like they're like a junior your league team so maybe it's a Toronto thing but I did why I've sampled because again I got a little I got the bug a little bit I watch games around the league and I know what Jake is saying some of the games are have been slow starting for sure the Bruins Columbus game last night was right out of the shoot a good game no it was I was pleasantly surprised by that I was expecting like some sort of ramp up or maybe some of the guys who you know after hearing that who didn't practice and who did practice it I thought maybe it's going to be kind of a half-assed game that That game had jumped right out of the gate. That first period was fast. Here comes the suggestions. Anthony in Tewksbury, how do I get the NHL network now? Super box? Real quick, you've got to go get yourself a VC box. VC box. It's either the VC box or the super box. I'm not getting any boxes or sticks or I'm not doing any of that. You should ask Joe Murray about this. You go F yourself. I'm not getting the VC box nor the super box nor the fire stick or any of that. You can stick that all up your ass. Good luck with that. Here's an update from Big Jim Murray, and we're right back. Don't go anywhere. You're listening. I listen to you every day. To Velger and Maz. I think this is a moral loss. On the Sports Hub. Back to our phones. As promised, here's Nico in the car. Yes, Nico. Hey, what's going on, guys? Thanks so much for taking my call. So, obviously, we're all well aware of Jeremy Slamis' performance overseas in the Olympics where he lays an absolute egg against known international powerhouse Denmark. So, you know, you'd think he'd be coming back home, trying to fight his way back into the crease, and, you know, looking to wipe that off his record. But no, he decides his stomach hurts or something. I don't know. He has a problem. And he decides to get out of this game. So Jonas Corposalo, who has been criticized all year by the fan base and media alike for his abysmal season, comes in and slams the door while also getting hurt in the process and fighting to come back into the crease after getting absolutely destroyed in the crease on a player where a guy rushed into him, something happened, I don't know. But he ends up stopping 36 out of 38, fights through it, toughs through it. Jeremy Swamin, if I'm you, I am absolutely embarrassed because Corposalo made you look like an absolute teddy bear. Okay, I'm with you. I like it. I like the contrast. Corposalo was terrific. He was dynamite. Excellent. Maybe the best game I've seen him play with the Bruins. In fact, take the maybe out. if someone wants a goalie, I would absolutely be floating Jeremy Swayman. You know how I feel about it. I never would have signed him to that contract. You know how I feel about the goaltender position in general? I don't know if I'd sign any goaltender to that contract. Maybe Hellebuck now, maybe. I don't know. I just – I would be absolutely dangling him, but then again, who would want him? How about Travis in the truck on the ABS system? Yes, Travis. Travis? Yeah, the umpires didn't suck on purpose so they could practice their whole thing with the teams challenging. They sucked because they suck. Probably closer to the bone, yeah. Is that all you want to say, Travis? Well, and I think also, this is kind of half-assed serious here, but the catchers should probably just call the balls and strikes. There might be less arguments. Oh, no, that'd be great. You know, that would work. Just let the catchers call it like your pickup game. No, that'd work. Down in the dirt. Strike. No bias there. You already got people cheating. Adam in Ipswich. Go ahead, Adam. Hey, so we're complaining about the Canadians complaining about all this stuff. Like, oh, we lost on three on three. Do we not forget about when Chara had patched already into the boards and Montreal literally filled up their 911 call center with calls? So listen, I know all about Montreal fans, Adam. I fully expect this from Montreal fans. Right. But the rest of the country? I know. That's what I'm saying. I'm agreeing with that. The fact that it's spread from Montreal to the rest of the country, they're all getting soft up there. That's not a good look for hockey. So soft. That was an epic loss. Epic. When the tournament started, it wasn't that Canada was a heavy favorite. But the way that that game played out, they were a heavy favorite. They should have had five or six goals on the board during the run of play. They had a five on three for a minute and 40 seconds. They had a massive advantage in talent on the three on three. And they lose. And afterwards, the coach says, well, it's not real hockey. No one's going to point that out up there. You're all just going along with that. The only thing I disagree with with what he said is that they're getting soft. I think they've always been that way. No, and I'm not like. But you know the Toronto media. Oh, no, no. The Toronto media's got teeth. The Toronto media with the – I don't know how they are with the Leafs. I'm sorry, with the Jays. But with the Leafs, it's like the way the Toronto media used to be with the Maple Leafs is like the way the – Vicious. The Red Sox media used to be with the Red Sox. Vicious. They were vicious with the hockey team. Adversarial. Yeah. Now that's all changed here. I don't know what it's like there. I think it's only with the Leafs, though. It's never – look, the Blue Jays fan base – I mean, media had a little bit of teeth. but not like, you know, not like the hockey coverage up there, but they've all treated that three on three, like, Hey, let's three on three. Is it anything that happened? Bounce to the pockets one way. And again, you a-holes, you benefited from it. You won in overtime with a three on three against the Czech Republic I don want to hear it But when you can throw out those three players it massively decided in your advantage So when those three get smoked both shifts on the ice you're not going to take a look at that and how they played and discuss it? The answer? No, they're not. It wasn't real hockey, don't you know? Paul in the car. Go ahead, Paul. Yeah, guys, I was fortunate enough to be in Milan and saw the U.S. play Latvia, and then I saw the Czechs play Switzerland. the U.S. Latvia game, the energy level and the crowd was so low. It was a bunch of people all dressed up, dolled out, taking photos, you know, selfies and all this. It was just lame. The crowd was lame. Went to the Czech-Swiss game. It was like they were playing the seventh game in the Stanley Cup. Okay, neat. I don't care. I know how I feel about it. I'm telling you how I feel about it. The U.S. fans there weren't great. Sorry. Sorry you experienced that, sir. Can't help you with that. I really can't help you with that. Here's Mark in Ipswich. Go ahead, Mark. Mark in Ipswich. He has a Pasternak trade idea. Pasternak for Brady Kachuk. I'd do it. Oh, I would do that too. Yeah, I like Brady Kachuk. I think most fans wouldn't do it. I think the Bruins wouldn't do it. But I would do it. Although Pasternak did make a good play last night on that goal by Geeky. That was a good play. And he blocked a shot late. He did. But did you see what he also did? Missing that twice. Shooting it from beyond the red line when he easily could have gained the red line. Correct. Why am I the only one that gets pissed off by this? Why? Because we pasta. We pasta. We've been over this. No, but why? Why? Do you don't care out there that Pasternak is more interested in stat humping and padding his stats than winning the hockey game? Because that's how he played. Again, he blocked the shot, and he was out there because he gets trapped out there because he iced the puck twice, so he's got to stay on the ice. But they throw him out there to stat hump an empty net goal or an empty net assist, just get him a point with an empty net. He's not a good defensive player. He doesn't kill penalties. But they throw him out there just so he can pad his stats. And not just that, twice in that game, He had possession of the puck with an empty net with a clear chance to gain the red line and clear the zone. And if you want to shoot, once you gain the red line, you can do that because it doesn't matter if you miss or not. But obviously, if you shoot before the red line, it's icing and now you're pinned in your own zone. He did it twice. He did it twice because he's trying to pad his stats and stat hump a goal. And no one cares. Talk about soft. Bruins fans, you're soft that you're okay with that. Soft. Bunch of pusses. I thought you were better than that, but you're not. Whee! It's just pasta! It's pasta night! Whee! We get pasta! Instead, he keeps icing the puck and getting face-offs in his own zone. In a game you have to have against your closest playoff opponent, and no one says anything. You know what? Maybe I should stop bagging on the Canadians. You're just as bad. Brutal. app and I'm the only one who cares about this they might be worse you people just you have a bunch of Canadian fans congratulations good grief long commercial free segment comes your way next hey so it's shaking things up a bit no formal intro let's see what Carlo from Auburn has to say the biggest thing that I received out of this awaken 180 program was that I was able to get a best friend and when i say that i mean the person that i look to in the mirror every morning i would walk by the mirror and not look now the awaken 180 program has given me the ability to look in the smile and actually enjoy and appreciate the person i am i went from you know 301 down to 213 i've lost 84 pounds with awaken 180 84 pounds and carlo did it in just under four months and those results, buddy, are the results you'll get with Awaken 180. Get back to liking the person you see in the mirror and choose Awaken 180 Weight Loss online at Awaken180WeightLoss.com. Now, more of Felger and Mads on the Sports Hub. Let's grab a couple of phones here before we talk to Gasper. Gasper's scheduled. Has anyone heard from him? Nope. Usually sends an email with the things he wants to talk about. He hasn't. He'll be there. I hope. Otherwise, back to your calls, the Pasternak being on the ice at the end of the game. Someone's got to explain. What justification Mark and Taunton is there for that? There's none, Mike. I completely agree with you. This is a penalty kill situation. You're in a position that you shouldn't be in because you're only up by a goal fighting for your life. he would never put Pasternak on the ice in a penalty kill situation he should not be on the ice in this situation period end of story it's disappointing that it's a whole systemic thing because multiple coaches have done it yep forget it get him off the ice Cassidy did it Montgomery did it's a Pasternak it's an organization thing yeah it is and they're not the only ones they do it with Ovechkin in Washington and I'm sure other stars you know get it so that I'm gonna have to let go because it's the way it's done not just here it's it's gross it is it is to me indefensible as far as i'm concerned but it happens elsewhere now you're out there you're gonna go for goals just outside your own blue line risking icing and pinning you guys back there when you're trying to preserve a one goal lead for two points you need for the playoffs you can do that twice no one and No one calls him out on it. The second one was on a backhand too, wasn't it? I mean, and he, it was an easy situation where he could have skated to the red line and then taken the shot or, I don't know, do something more responsible and dump it into the corner and get your ass off the ice and let your defensive players get back out there. But no, no, everybody has to stop what they're doing and get pasta, empty net goal or a point. Because him finishing with 100 points for the fourth straight year is the most important thing in the organization. Don't you know, guys? Jack in Derry. Go ahead, Jack. What do you got? Hey, fellas. Thanks for having me on. I just wanted to say that Canada, every single player that was out there on the ice in three on three, all they had in their head was they wanted to be the next Sidney Crosby. So I don't think so, Jack. They didn't care about winning the game. Jack, I think McDavid did. But those other guys set him up. They passed it back twice. Both times. Exactly. It was the same thing for Mitch Marner, too. Look at the semifinal. He's going one on three. No, they didn't. And he scores, yeah, a soft goal. I mean, it was a good goal, but the defense was crap. I'm with you, Jack, especially McDavid. They just wanted to get him in Sidney Crosby moment. It was evident with Connor McDavid, for sure. For sure. In fact, you know what? I meant to say this. Did you happen to see the goal McDavid scored? Was it last night or the night before? It might have been last night where he held on to the puck and held on to the puck. If I had the NHL Network and could watch the highlights, I would have, but I missed it. So he just basically held onto the puck, completely skated around the back of the net. People were just kind of standing there waiting. The goalie sort of got out of position, and then he scored this easy goal. And I think this is part of the problem with McDavid. And I don't mean him, but the effect of McDavid. Once he starts skating around with the puck, everybody stops. So that's part of it. The other part is they wanted him to carry the flag and be the guy. Yeah, no, no. It's a totally different thing. I mean, I totally jump rails on you there. But it was sort of a follow-up to the conversation we had the other day. It was everybody just stops playing. I mean, I think it's part of the reason why they lose in the end. Jake in the suburbs. Go, Jake. Yeah, I don't know if you saw the Toronto GM's recent comments, but the Maple Leafs look like they're tanking. I think they're going to sell at the trade deadline because they probably think the only way that they can avoid giving the Bruins a pick is what can we do to get in the top five? It's really kind of interesting to monitor that. Absolutely. It is. And it's, I believe it's top seven, Kevin majority. That's right. And is it, Oh, it's top five. It's top five. And is it, it's after the balls, right? Meaning it's not. No, no. Right. It's post lottery. Yeah. Right. You can't like someone, they can't trade into the, so right. So if they finished with the seventh lowest, but get the ping pong balls, you're still screwed. Yes. Correct. After the lottery. Yep. Correct. Hold on one second. There's an interesting issue because Ottawa doesn't have their – like their first-round pick is forfeited. So there's questions as if if Ottawa ends up in the top five and Toronto is six, do the Bruins still get that pick? Wait a minute. Why did they forfeit their first-round pick? They tried to trade somebody they couldn't trade, and they tried to do it. Like it was the whole issue with the trade deadline a couple years ago. They tried to trade somebody that – they traded him to where he – They were cheating is what you're saying. Yeah, Ottawa was cheating essentially. But they don't have their first-round pick. So if they end in the top five in Toronto six, do the Bruins still get the pick? Because Toronto would technically have a top five pick. So they're both long shots right now. Right now, Toronto's in the 11th lottery position, and Ottawa's in the 14th lottery position. But the way Toronto looked to me the other night was just, like, they've already decided we're not doing anything. So either way, like, this is another reason why, like, you got another team tanking for you you're in a good like that's the sweet spot right there that's perfect that's the danny age uh tim and weymouth go hey uh you should just spring for nhl network i know you're cheap but it's really good value right now every team's playing every other night there's probably 12 to 15 games going on every night it's not just but can i buy can i can i buy the nhl network for two bucks a month or i got to get f f you or fubu for 140 a month Yeah, you've got to get a few. That I don't know. But as for Team Canada, I don't think they need three-on-three. If they got somebody besides stiff Jordan Bennington in the net, John Cooper needs to be asked why he didn't put Logan Thompson in the final. He got outclassed by Hellebuck. You're so wrong. The goalie wasn't the problem. The goalie wasn't the problem at all. Bennington did nothing wrong. Bennington's made for moments like these. It was a freaking two-to-one game. He made a save early in the three-on-three that he spread out, you know, made that glove save. Bennington's not the issue for Canada. Biddington did his usual thing, which is give them a chance with one big, massive, giant testicle save when he had to have it. And Connor McDavid and John Cooper and the rest of the Canadian team puked down the front of their sweaters. The goaltending was not the issue in Canada. They once again had the right guy. Okay, Chris Gasper standing by. I think here's a big Jim Murray with an update. 90 seconds, no commercials, and we're right back.
