You're listening to Miller and Moulton coming at you from the Floor Meisters Studios Floor Meisters keeping it real and now Here's Mark Miller and David Moulton hour two of Miller and Moulton on this good Friday Thanks so much for being with us and early Happy Easter greeting to one and all this weekend Obviously a busy sports weekend women's final four tonight men's final four tomorrow Never mind the fact we're in the final two weeks of hockey basketball We're beginning, you know, we've got more home-openers in baseball today. That's how early we are still in The Major League Baseball season, but we've got a lot Going on We had people asking in our twitch chat room some questioning which surprises me actually Some questioning the Kirk Cousins signing for the Raiders. I I Think I speak for you in saying that yesterday. We were unanimous. We thought it was almost brilliant by the Raiders Yeah, I mean One we talked about it yesterday when it happened now, I know everybody's checking in and checking out So I don't look at it that way, but it's It's a one-year deal There are many quarterbacks who aren't ready, but more importantly What's the part of the Las Vegas Raiders that might be it's a bad team, but David What's maybe the weakest part of that football team? Well right now they don't have a quarterback, but okay We know they're gonna draft one and they just signed one But wouldn't you say their offensive line is damn near pathetic in fact? I thought yesterday you said it's one of the three worst in the sport. Well, it was last year for sure Absolutely, it was so to bring in a rookie quarterback and put him behind a bad offensive line, right can be Not just critical for this year But can be a detriment to a guy's entire career. Yes watch guys We've gotten their asses kicked in their first year in the NFL and have never been able to recover from it So This makes all the sense in the world to us and we are also two guys who are big on backups Yeah in that position By the way at 20 million he's gonna start week one This is this has Kurt Warner Eli Manning written all over it Where Kurt Warner started the first nine games of the year? And then they're like it's meant it's Manning's time and They went with them and they probably shouldn't have Okay, because we're actually in the middle of a playoff race At the time they benched Kurt Warner they were actually in the playoffs for the Giants But they're like we don't care this whole season's about what? Developing number 10. That's our future Because here's the other thing you're getting with Kirk Cousins because you paid him 20 million fully guaranteed He's happy to be in Vegas. You gave him what he wanted. Okay. He's gonna fully Embrace the role Kurt Warner was not crazy About being the mentor for Eli Manning because Kurt was still trying to reestablish himself after st. Louis He hadn't taken the Cardinals the Super Bowl yet. He was considered on the downside Kurt's like I'm not on the downside I just needed a chance Okay, Kirk Cousins is all in on Fernando Mendoza, okay mark in essence He's gotten a personal quarterback coach in Kirk Cousins and and even more than that a bit of a personal life coach I mean really and truly this is this is you're right on the quarterback thing But come on what we know about Mendoza is he seems to be the genuine article. He seems to be a really good guy Well, all accounts are so skirt cousins. So you have two similar personalities One teaching the other how to play this game at the highest level and Instead of just throwing Mendoza to the wolves and letting him start on week one when he very well might not be ready He gets time to learn the position Everything about this makes sense to me everything. I think there are a bunch of teams that screwed up by not getting cousins David Well, the one thing we know about Kirk Cousins is he doesn't go somewhere where he doesn't want to go You know the Jets you go way back to before he signed with Minnesota Jets offered him the most money He didn't want to go play for the Jets He ended up going to Minnesota for less He left Minnesota. Why he and his family wanted to retire In Georgia near Atlanta, that's where her side's from. So he went to go be a Falcon The Falcons ended that relationship Kirk cousins didn't want in that relationship the Falcons did and Kirk's near the end Kirk's already lining up the broadcasting gig. He did the playoffs with CBS last year got good reviews Kirk's got the network broadcasting gig lined up So he's gonna play for as long as he can One other thing to remember new head coach we in Las Vegas Clint Kubiak was the offense coordinator in Seattle before that You know what he was? Quarterback coach in Minnesota his quarterback Kirk cousins I Think this is awesome. Not only that Vegas is still spending so little on their quarterback room. They got rid of Gino Smith. He ain't costed him anything Kirk's gonna cost him 20 Fernando Mendoza. I think his cap hit this year is gonna be around 10 They're basically spending 30 million on their quarterback room. That's cheap The other thing that I Look at maybe Kirk cousins never wanted to go there, but here's the sidebar with Kirk cousins signing with Vegas Don't you think Aaron Rodgers is a stealer now? Right I'm being serious, you know, I mean I think you know when Kirk might have been looking at teams Where am I gonna start? Where is it a good organization? Where will I be? Appreciated we kind of thought he was the fallback to the Pittsburgh Steelers if Aaron Rodgers was going to decide not to play To me this means Aaron Rodgers is a Pittsburgh Steeler I could end up being wrong there, but that's the sidebar from that signing yesterday to me David Right because the only other place where is there a starting job available? Technically still in Pittsburgh but we all think not nod wink wink that Aaron Rodgers is gonna return and Mr. Rooney at the owners meeting said he is gonna officially let us know before the draft Boy You don't think the Steelers would dare do what they do with Kenny pick it to you and take the Alabama Quarterback in the first round man. I hope not they would go nuts Where the draft is to oh man That boy, that's a you know what David that's a great point. I mean That's gonna be 80% Steeler fan Oh point I think point state Park. It's called there where the rivers come together and They would in the heat that the poor kid would get crucified Oh, he's named called. I mean This would be it and there are guys that have been able to get through it I mean was it you know, I'm trying to think the Was it the Randall cutting ham draft when I mean he just got when they weren't expecting there's a ton of them No, no, no Eagles fans did not want Donovan McNabb. They said I apologize, right No, they went nuts Think they wanted Ricky think they wanted Ricky Williams And they took Donovan McNabb. Yeah, oh Got destroyed and obviously he didn't work out in the other one a little closer to home not here in Tampa, but in Miami Right. Yeah when when the late Jim Bandage is hosting the draft party Whooping them up into a frenzy because they're gonna take Brady Quinn. They need a quarterback that he's on the board They're gonna take him. He's buddy in the chant David. Yes, man. It's is leading the chant in the room And they're Brady Quinn Brady Quinn, right Miami Dolphins with the ninth pick the first round The 2006 I think it was NFL draft take Ohio State wide receiver Ted Gin jr. Oh My goodness man, it said, okay, he said I'm never doing one of these again He told that story on the air to us and we had man to John regularly he was he was one of one There there of you know all the guests we have had and we've been very fortunate Mandage was one of one He was tremendous he certainly was dolphins broadcast haven't been the same how Branch eyes hasn't been the same since losing the mad dog. There's no doubt. Yeah, really Can't disagree with that that's for sure But so, you know the move happened during our bonus hour yesterday, we know not everybody hears it So just wanted to bring it up again our thoughts. We're all in we like the move For the Raiders and now they don't have the rush Mendoza At all and if they don't dramatically improve the offensive line Cousins will still make the line look a little better. What a veteran quarterbacks do they gave her to the ball quickly I mean Kirk Cousins could do he can be checked down Chad for three hours He I mean hell his last passes Meaningful passes of Viking was that playoff game against the Giants who's fourth and ten he threw a seven-yard pass Okay, trust me. He could he could throw the check down David put it this way I'd like to see whenever they come out with over under catches on Brock Bowers for this season I think I want to go over whatever the number is Don't you have to think he's going back to triple digits again if he's healthy. Yeah, I do. Yeah I mean if you're Kirk Cousins, who's the first guy you're looking at every damn time Hand the ball off the Gentie play action fake. Where's Brock? Thank you. I don't you think he's saying that to Mendoza. By the way, this job's not that hard Okay, hand the ball to Gentie or play action fake to Gentie and throw it to the guy who's open But that does get to the other thing, you know about being the mentor when and look at I you know, I'm not in locker rooms I'm not following around. I'm not talking to these guys But I you know that quarterbacks program that was on and they show cousins and he's got stacks and Stacks of notebooks from every game. He's played. He's got every notebook on every team Who do you want your first overall pick learning from? I mean, yeah, there are a lot of positives here about how to play this position the right way mean Kirk Cousins has overachieved in business by a mile my two hundred also overachieved at the position This is a fourth round pin That no one ever thought was gonna be a starter You know, he was not expected to be a starting quarterback in this league And he's been an above average starting quarterback for the majority of his career. I think this is your 15 Cousins right fourth round pick a quarterback Yeah, the same year that RG3 was taken by the were they the Redskins then they were okay I didn't want to get in trouble But you know they take RG3 and then in the fourth round they take Kirk Cousins and we all scratched our head and went What are they doing? He's still in the damn league One guy wins rookie the year and the other guy plays 15 years Makes a few hundred million dollars Miller and mole You're listening to Miller and molten and now here's Mark Miller and David Molten 21 minutes past the hour Pat Curwin will join us 40 minutes from now He was at the owners meetings in Arizona look back at those A lot of gossip that goes on there, too. Okay, we'll get Pat to Tell us some things that he heard around the water cooler or the bar or whatever the case may be Donnie Tyndall and a little over an hour Final four this weekend Okay, we'll get the longtime coach to dive into Michigan, Arizona Illinois Yukon who will be playing on Monday. That's our poll question Mark went with Michigan Yukon so I Went with Yukon But I picked Arizona to win the whole thing So I'm going Arizona Yukon trust me mark TBS slash CBS They want your final I think they do I think that's the I think that's the final that draws the best number Okay, it is interesting because obviously with Illinois Potentially the Chicago market obviously a huge market But Yukon really a blue blood Whether you think of them as a blue blood or not the last quarter century. They are clearly a blue blood No doubt and I don't know if Yukon brings in You know, I don't know if Boston's a big college basketball market But Yukon could bring in more of New York it brings in the population of the Northeast is huge I'm not knocking Chicago in any way shape or form but Certainly you're bringing a lot of eyeballs when you're bringing it, you know the the biggest program in the Northeast right now Yeah, and the brand I mean the you can't brand is the thing, you know, the Alina. I mean 20 years ago They were in the final they played North Carolina in a terrific final Roy Williams finally winning a championship terrific championship game actually We've had a lot of them. We've got that that sport has delivered for 40 years that sport has delivered On Monday night far more often than it hasn't There's been a few clunkers Yukon was involved in one of them, but man. Oh man That sport delivers on Monday night Most of the time All right, I'm gonna go off the beaten path for a second David Okay, and this is probably something that could be a poll question But last night as I'm watching hockey and my son's watching hockey in a different city we text during the game All right, there happened to be a Goal that was waved off in the game that I was watching that ended up being overturned And it was a goal and it should have been a goal Okay, so they scored but it was immediately waved off immediately waved off for goaltender interference And then they went to toronto or new york wherever they go and they decided no in fact it was a goal In fact the coach had to challenge it But it became a goal and when when And I'm watching it was the detroit philadelphia game and i'm watching the detroit announcers and the detroit announcers from the word going Well, that's a goal You know because they would in the moment they go they're gonna wave that off as soon as they saw the replay Both the both the analyst and the play by play guy. Well, that's gonna be a goal and it took a while but they got it And my son simply texted me What's harder for the replay people to figure out? What's a catch or what's goaltender interference and I laughed but I just thought what of the four major sports? What replay system works the best? And which one works the worst because we're now dealing with baseball with balls and strikes being able to be called We've had you know base calls now for a couple of years Basketball can review a foul and they change they've got challenges in the nba Obviously, we're all familiar With the nfl in its replay And hockey now has it and they there are a lot of goals that are overturned because of plays that are offside That were not deemed offside in live action So I am just curious david We follow officials a lot no matter what show goes on across the country And replay is something that most of us like because we want to what get the call right I'm curious Which one do you think's the best replay system and which one do you think's the worst replay system? Baseball's the best and basketball's the worst Baseball's able to get the calls right Very quickly. I in fact, I don't think anyone else is in baseball's area code right now in terms of use of replay Every now and then you get a long replay in baseball and we all wonder what in the wide world the sports is going on But clearly this you know abs pitch thing. I mean this is less than 10 seconds That they're getting this done so I think baseball's the best I think basketball is the worst and I'll throw college in with the nba, but mark those reviews take forever ever forever and I understand that hockey can have a long review and the nfl can have a long review I get it, but they also can have the calls now that are being very quickly changed from new york In which you know, what do they call it? What's the phrase we came up with last year? Okay something review Okay, in which all of a sudden new york lets the referee know on the field. Yeah, that was a catch Or move the ball up a yard. I mean You know to expedite things so I think baseball is the best basketball is the worst and you know I will say and we love our hockey sometimes those offside reviews Okay, man, whether or not, you know, the the coach challenges it that the place should be waved off because they were offside entering the zone man Can they over analyze those plays? They really can I'm with you there and I do think that they have struggled with goaltender interference. Yes You know, and I thought my son's Comment was was spot on the difference between what's a catch and what's goal interference Now you've got to be into both sports to get what we're talking about I get it not all of you are hockey fans and even those of you that are hockey fans aren't big hockey fans like david and I are But I thought that was a good point that he made but I did think it was just an interesting You know and I kind of took what he said to the next level But we now have replay everywhere and I think your point on baseball spot on look at it's not one of the sports I mentioned what's baseball most like in replay tennis tennis doesn't screw anything up and it takes seconds It's fantastic. Yeah, and the players are okay with it too. They're like, oh, I guess it was in And they just accept it and move on you know That to me I mean we've had one argument so far with the new system in baseball and the argument was not about What the computer said the argument was about apparently the reviews have to happen in terms of the catcher batter or pitcher Saying hey, I want you to take a look at that apparently it has to happen very quickly Okay, and what happened in this case was the catchers and the batters have been doing most of the reviews There have been less than two handfuls of reviews so far initiated by the pitcher And so the argument in the bolton more minnesota game was that the orioles pitcher Okay The minnesota manager thought took too long to tap his head But I thought one of the announcers made a really good point as a pitcher Aren't you waiting for the catcher to challenge it? So don't you don't you hesitate a second? Right there just kind of looking at your catcher like you're gonna challenge that No, okay. Well, then I will Right because the calls on the bases david, you know, they're they're kind of waiting to see a replay on an ipad or You know getting someone upstairs say hey, he didn't touch first or we got we made the tag or whatever the hell the case may be Right that you know that and it's not slow, but it takes a little more time It's more like the rest of the sports if you will Whereas the the pitch the one that I think we care most about the balls and strikes. It's bang bang And I don't watch enough nba To be able to tell you the replays but having watched this tournament. It's nauseating It is The length of time that they are taking To determine who a ball went off of Uh flagrant fowler and I guess the flagrant foul bothers me even a little bit more david because my goodness have I get it But what used to be a normal basketball plays now a flagrant and you're like what the hell The thing I don't understand You know, you and I have done basketball games courtside. I know I've done a lot more than you But you know, we've got monitors In the last 10 15 years that we did games. We've got monitors Okay, there's the extra official that's sitting courtside. He's got a monitor I don't understand why the extra official courtside. Oh, we got to review this and why that person did 30 seconds Can't just take a look. He's got a headset. He can talk to the truck. Hey, give me every replay you got Okay, boom boom Boom and then that official goes. Yeah, that's that's a foul or that's a flagrant or no Okay, or it's blue ball or it's white ball whatever the case may be. Yeah, exactly I don't understand why this takes two to three minutes Because to us it should take less than 30 seconds Miller and Bolton pat curwin in 30 minutes Welcome back to Miller and Milton text the guys what's in your mind at 21 000 that's 21 000 And now here's david multip 22 minutes to the top of the hour. That's when pat curwin is expected to join us Here on miller and molten miller and molten dot com miller underscore molten on x donnie tindall One hour from now we'll get in depth with a hoop lifer on the final four michigan, arizona illinois And ucon illinois ucon the first semifinal around six o'clock saturday And arizona michigan the second semifinal they say 849 it'll probably be closer at nine o'clock remember tbs Tbs for the men's final four espn for the women's final four tonight seven and nine thirty Uconn, south carolina the early game tonight at seven o'clock I said it earlier when's the last time you get don staley steaming six and a half Seems like a pretty good deal But again ucon is 38. No, so Maybe it's not enough Um along the lines of tbs Did you see late yesterday the story about the future of sports on turner and What may be happening to it? I did not. I mean, I know with the whole big buyout and everything and in the mergers of companies It's going to change things dramatically and there's been a lot of talk about what could happen Did we get a little closer to what's going to happen? So you and I We'd like to look forward whenever a story happens and when this whole cbs slash paramount Hostile takeover in which They were not the original bid that was accepted to take over Time Warner, which is hbo and all the turner Cable channels and it's also max streaming but They ended up being the bid that Upon further review has been accepted and it looks as if it's going to get the clearance from this administration That it needs in order for it to happen And they think that cbs slash paramount is going to purchase Turner and hbo and max and all that late spring early summer Well, we speculated when this whole hostile takeover was trying to happen We said well, let's look at all the sports properties that turner has If you're cbs and mark once again, we're not that smart But what seems to be the only thing that's rating on television for the last few years? live sports If you're cbs, how much of this stuff are you going to move on to? You know the network Well, apparently mark CBS is going to get all into sports Because not only are they going to move Turner's major league baseball onto cbs apparently as early as this summer But Remember turner's got a nascar contract. They've got x number of weeks of nascar There's talk cbs is going to develop a brand new racing channel And then oh by the way nascar races will end up on cbs You and i are hockey fans Gary betman has already commented in which he was thrilled that paramount slash cbs was emerging as the winning bid for Turner's channels and hbo and max because well Who are the two big tv partners in the us? espn and Turner And gary betman said it a month ago. He goes oh if this goes through We're going to get hockey on cbs Well mark not this year because espn's got the finals this year But when did this sucker goes through in the summer? Heading into next season which will be year six of a seven-year tv deal instead of it being Turner's last year Of having the stanley cup finals the stanley cup finals in 2027 will likely be on cbs What a huge coup for the nhl Because we've talked about this and it's just factual network television gets better ratings and cable television by a large margin It's not close. No like the smallest margins 20 percent That's a small difference If again, that's really an espn to abc difference You know when you're talking one of the turner stations to a network. It's going to be substantially larger. It just is Now i'm not saying all of us are aware of this because how much sports do we watch on the turner channels? but if you remember Turner made a deal Where they have big 12 football and basketball all right They have big east basketball We just talked about nascar the nhl major league baseball one night a week At least through the 2028 season Now unfortunately there may not be baseball next year to televised But wouldn't it be something if baseball is on cbs in july at august? Well cbs and nbc. I mean from where baseball was to be right two networks And I know we're switching to streaming. I get it. I've cut the court but To the point we just made about ratings network is still far better From the amount of viewers you get than any other entity that's out there It is will it be in 10 years? How we don't know don't think so but for the moment it is Now the biggest thing to me david is the nfl deal Because with this merger The nfl right in their deal with cbs can renegotiate Oh, and they already have they they make two weeks ago and the word is they asked for an extra billion My understanding is cbs gives around 2.3 Billion a year to the nfl annually and the nfl said yeah, make it 3.3 Now they haven't come to a deal yet, but you tell me if you're cbs What you you're gonna You know try to nickel and dime the nfl Okay, I think the reason that it's not official yet. Is they're just waiting for this merger to go through Okay, I think it'll be done soon But apparently the other networks are sitting back and curious how it's going to go with cbs Then at the nfl gets the full amount they're asking for nbc and abc and fox know that We don't have a lot of negotiating power Not when the streaming companies are out there offering far more money right that they're doing the negotiations for the networks if you will Even though I think it's confusing to all of us. I mean Paramount is cbs is streaming channel. Yeah, but it's cbs Okay, so isn't it one of the same? I know that they'll do the books and they'll separate it, but you know You know nbc's got peacock Peacock's losing half a billion dollars a year Yeah, but you know it's still it's mbc You know peacock. I mean you're it's the same umbrella, right? Now what's interesting is you know, what's fox streaming channel? Right Okay, I mean fox is the first network publicly to go Yeah, I don't know if we can afford to keep the nfl Which is ironic as hell because the reason fox is the network is because they ponied up for the nfl back in 93 Otherwise that network wouldn't have gotten off the ground But anyways just some Just some and you had mentioned during the break Which it was surprising to both of us so apparently Thursday and friday of the masters is going to be on amazon One to three before espn signs on thursday and friday amazon Has two hours. I had thought that I had read that paramount was going to get the streaming rights And I think they still have them And I think it's similar and I don't know yet and I don't have paramount Is it going to be similar to what direct tv used to have where they had the amen corner and some of you know You could watch the different things like you know masters dot is it master? It's finally masters dot com. It was masters dot or forever But masters dot com there is no better No website to stream an event Then masters dot com. I don't give a damn. I don't care what sport you like f1 tennis hockey baseball Cricket I don't give a damn The masters website is simply the best when it comes to watching the event online So does amazon you know partner similarly to what they get But yes two hours of coverage on thursday and friday is going to be on amazon I'll let you know on friday what I think of it because I can guarantee you this I will watch every single minute and What I found interesting is terry ganan is apparently the lead announcer for amazon He's an mbc guy But the masters you know they approve of the announcers and to do masters dot com there are non cbs announcers that are on it But anyway, it's just so some broadcasters and cable and streaming and news That's out there One other thing I wanted to get to mark. We talked about this. I think it was a year ago I don't think it was two years ago. I think it was last year so the swamp is old And it needs repairs And they've behind the scenes had a big debate we keep in this sucker Or we repairing it and if we're repairing it it may cost more than building a whole new sucker So apparently they're keeping it And apparently they're repairing it And the rumor that you know since it's old and this you know It's not necessarily handicap accessible everywhere and blah blah blah. They might lose some seats Mark upon further review. Guess what? They're gonna gain seats. Well, I ain't losing one. You're damn right. They're not They've had 18 straight sellouts And they're counting how much revenue they need and they're like, ah, we'll pump 400 or 500 million in this sucker We'll figure it out And david it's funny because last year and you helped me get tickets to go to the cocktail party And I got them from a gator fan I had gator season tickets that were sent to me in order to do that. I had to get the gator app Right. Well, I had to sign up for that sucker. You know what that means and I didn't I didn't delete it. I'm getting all the emails. They think I'm one of them now. They want my money too They have been Emailing like a son of a gun Trying to raise cash for that thing which I find hysterical But the other side of it david as we were talking about the buck stadium yesterday In that, you know, they're going to try to do some things to rej. But you know, it's 28 years old You want to know the main difference? Really when you think about it between Saturdays and Sundays and a little bit college basketball too because we talked about the dean smith center And they're going to end up getting a new building there. But where it goes is a big deal david these sec stadiums These big 10 stadiums You look at the shoe and you look at the big house and and you know, obviously in happy valley and then all of the sec stadiums The fans would revolt If they knocked them down and built new ones It's everything To those fans to be at the same place that they've been playing football at for, you know, sometimes 80 90 years for crying out loud Yeah, they've made them bigger, but it's still on the same piece of land They're still playing between the hedges and Athens and trust me when I say this to the college football fan It's you know, for a lot of them whether they're alums or they've just been going forever It's their tie to the university. It's their tie to history It's their tie to their children to their grandchildren. It is such a big deal We're in the NFL. It's dammit. Can we get a new one? Can we get a better one? What are the suites going to be like? What are the club seats like? How many bathrooms do you have? 88,548 Is official capacity at the swamp every now and then you see attendance there of 90 and 91 thousand, you know Yeah, okay. Look the other way at times. I'll give florida credit Because they've done two big renovations to kyle field and let me tell you a&m did a great job Well, they hired the guy who did the renovations at kyle field They made them an executive Associate athletic director for facilities and capital projects. Wow That's a it's a big title It's like two lines of business cards much anymore david because that takes up a hell of a lot on the business card That's at least two lines on the business card. Right. Well, I don't know how you put initials for most of that, right? But anyway, so this guy handled both of those renovations and they did an amazing job at kyle field A&M did a great job and the renovation the last one was 450 million florida hired this guy said go to work We need to generate more revenue Okay You are going to really be sitting on people's laps if they're keeping the capacity the same those seats are so tight and so close to one another It's unbelievable david And of course mark. What's the one question everybody has? Hey, that's all great You're going to make the internet any better because the wi-fi's too slow Pat curwin next
