Hey Bible readers, I'm Miss Emily, and this is the Bible recap. Perkins! Today's Bible Word! In Exodus 25.8, God says, have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them. God gives His people a lot of detailed instructions today. He wants them to build a tabernacle where He will live among them. Tabernacle, that's another word to remember. Right to remember! The tabernacle is a movable tent where God lived. God tells them to use beautiful fabrics and valuable metals to build His home. Now, you might be wondering where a bunch of people who used to be slaves who are now living in the desert even had beautiful fabrics and valuable metals. Remember their last night in Egypt when God told them to gather their valuables and remember how some of those valuables used to belong to the Egyptians? God had a plan for it all along. God also gives the Israelites instructions for building the ark of the covenant. This is a small piece of furniture, kind of like a treasure chest that holds the tablets God gave Moses with the tin commandments on them. God made the top of the ark serve as His throne on earth, so the people aren't allowed to touch it. God knows His power is too much for them to handle, and He shows His kindness by protecting them from it. Amen! God wants to live with His people. Even after all of their sins separated them from Him, He makes a way to be near to them. And through Jesus, He made a way to be near to you too. He restores relationships, and one day when Jesus returns, He'll restore the whole earth. He wants to be close to us, which is great news for us because He's where the joy is.
